Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk Heads to Saints via trade
Sat, Sep 13, 2025, 11:36 AM
The Patriots traded Polk (shoulder) and a 2028 seventh-round pick to the Saints for a 2027 sixth-round pick Saturday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Polk is on season-ending injured reserve due to a shoulder injury and won't make an appearance for the Saints until next season at the earliest. The 2024 second-round pick will get a fresh start with the Saints after struggling as a rookie with just 12 catches on 33 targets for 87 yards and two touchdowns.
Jack Stoll
Jack Stoll Signed to Saints' 53-man roster
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 4:39 PM
The Saints signed Stoll from the practice squad to the active roster Tuesday.
Analysis: Stoll failed to make the Saints' initial 53-man roster at the end of training camp. He elected to stay in New Orleans on the practice squad and was elevated for Week 1 against the Cardinals, when he logged 27 snaps (18 on offense, nine on special teams) but did not record a stat otherwise. With Taysom Hill (knee) and Foster Moreau (knee) both on IR, Stoll and Moliki Matavao will serve as the Saints' backup tight ends behind Juwan Johnson for the early portion of the 2025 regular season.
Devin Neal
Devin Neal Gets two touches in season opener
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 11:07 PM
Neal recorded two carries for nine yards during Sunday's 20-13 loss against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Neal finished fourth on the Saints in both rushing yards and attempts. Starting running back Alvin Kamara tallied 11 of the team's 22 rushing attempts, while RB2 Kendre Miller (five) and quarterback Spencer Rattler (four) rounded out the rest of the ground game. The lack of team rushing attempts is notable compared to the 46 passing attempts for Rattler, which was a career high. Neal also played just seven offensive snaps. So long as he's playing behind two other running backs in an offense that stresses the passing game, Neal won't fetch any value in fantasy football. The Saints' next game will come versus the 49ers on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Kendre Miller
Kendre Miller Totes the rock five times Week 1
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 11:02 PM
Miller compiled five rushes for 24 yards during Sunday's 20-13 defeat versus the Cardinals.
Analysis: Miller operated as the No. 2 running back behind longtime starter Alvin Kamara, who paced the Saints' ground game with 11 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, third-string running back Devin Neal rounded out the ground game with two carries for nine yards. The overall lack of reliance on the rushing attack was a departure from the approach under last year's offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, as quarterback Spencer Rattler instead tossed a career-high 46 passing attempts. Both Miller and Neal also played under a dozen offensive snaps, with 11 and seven, respectively. The lack of playing time and the minimization of the rushing game don't bode well for any running back playing behind Kamara this season. It will be worth monitoring if offensive-minded head coach Kellen Moore employs a similar approach during the Week 2 matchup versus San Francisco.
Devaughn Vele
Devaughn Vele Nabs one pass in NOLA debut
Sun, Sep 7, 2025, 10:54 PM
Vele recorded one reception (on three targets) for 13 yards during Sunday's 20-13 defeat versus the Cardinals.
Analysis: Vele didn't make much noise during his first game for New Orleans. The former Broncos wideout's first target didn't come until late in the third quarter, and he caught his first pass on the team's second-to-last drive of the game. His lack of production is pretty notable considering that quarterback Spencer Rattler tossed a career-high 46 passing attempts. Instead, nearly all of the targets went to Rattler's top three pass-catchers of Chris Olave (13), Rashid Shaheed (nine) and tight end Juwan Johnson (11). Veteran wideout Brandin Cooks also logged four targets. Vele will look to carve out a larger role for the Saints' Week 2 matchup versus San Francisco.
Brandin Cooks
Brandin Cooks Catches three passes Week 1
Sun, Sep 7, 2025, 10:53 PM
Cooks had three receptions (on four targets) for 26 yards during Sunday's 20-13 loss versus the Cardinals.
Analysis: Cooks slotted in as New Orleans' No. 3 wideout in his first game back with the team since 2016. The 31-year-old finished fourth on the squad in targets, catches and yards as quarterback Spencer Rattler chucked a career-high 46 passing attempts. But, the lion's share of targets still went toward Chris Olave (13), Rashid Shaheed (nine) and tight end Juwan Johnson (11). The surprisingly high volume of passing attempts could lead to more production than expected from the Saints' receivers, though it appears the aerial attack will be concentrated around Olave, Shaheed and Johnson. Cooks will look to gain some extra targets when the Saints host the 49ers in Week 2.
Rashid Shaheed
Rashid Shaheed Hauls in six passes in loss
Sun, Sep 7, 2025, 5:44 PM
Shaheed caught six of nine targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: The fourth-year wideout saw strong volume in new coach Kellen Moore's scheme, but Shaheed was actually the Saints' third-most productive pass catcher behind TE Juwan Johnson (8-76 on 11 targets) and WR Chris Olave (7-54 on 13 targets). With Spencer Rattler chucking up a career-high 46 pass attempts in a game that remained close throughout, the ceiling for the team's aerial attack might be higher than expected despite the question marks at quarterback. Shaheed will look to turn his volume into a big gain or two at home in Week 2 against the 49ers.
Juwan Johnson
Juwan Johnson Leading receiver against Cards
Sun, Sep 7, 2025, 5:39 PM
Johnson caught eight of 11 targets for 76 yards in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Arizona's Trey McBride came into the game as the big-name tight end, but Johnson bested him in targets, catches and yards while posting game-high totals in the latter two categories. New Orleans' new offense under coach Kellen Moore could be a boon to all the team's top pass catchers, as Spencer Rattler attempted a career-high 46 passes despite the fact that the score remained fairly close the whole way, and his reliance on Johnson is especially promising for the 28-year-old TE. Johnson will look to make a splash again at home Week 2 in a matchup against another elite player at his position, San Francisco's George Kittle (hamstring), assuming the latter is available.
Chris Olave
Chris Olave Sees big volume in loss
Sun, Sep 7, 2025, 5:35 PM
Olave caught seven of 13 targets for 54 yards in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: The oft-injured wideout went to the sideline early in the game with what was reported to be a chest injury, but Olave quickly returned and wound up leading the Saints in targets. Meanwhile, tight end Juwan Johnson surpassed him in catches and yards. New Orleans' passing game under new coach Kellen Moore could be a boon to all the team's top pass catchers, as Spencer Rattler attempted a career-high 46 passes despite the fact that the score remained fairly close the whole way. Olave will look to stay on the field and continue building chemistry with Rattler in a Week 2 home clash against the 49ers.
Alvin Kamara
Alvin Kamara Gets into end zone against Cards
Sun, Sep 7, 2025, 5:31 PM
Kamara carried the ball 11 times for 45 yards and a touchdown and caught both his targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 20-13 loss to Arizona.
Analysis: The veteran RB showed he had plenty of juice left in the tank on the Saints' only TD of the game, an 18-yard scamper early in the second quarter, but Kamara otherwise didn't find much running room. Kellen Moore's new offense leaned heavily on the passing game as Spencer Rattler attempted a career-high 46 passes, but that may not be a detriment to Kamara's production given his proven ability as a receiver. He'll look to make an impact again at home Week 2 against the 49ers.
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler Does little on big volume
Sun, Sep 7, 2025, 5:27 PM
Rattler completed 27 of 46 passes for 214 yards in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Cardinals. He added 29 rushing yards on four carries.
Analysis: The second-year QB didn't commit a turnover, but that was about the only silver lining to his Week 1 performance. Rattler attempted a career-high 46 passes in his first game in new coach Kellen Moore's scheme despite the fact that the score was fairly close all the way through, but his 4.7 yards per attempt was poor. With Tyler Shough waiting in the wings, Rattler may need to improve his numbers quickly to keep his starting job, beginning with a Week 2 home tilt against the 49ers.
Trey Palmer
Trey Palmer Inactive for Week 1
Sun, Sep 7, 2025, 11:19 AM
Palmer (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch for Sunday's clash against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Palmer joined New Orleans as a waiver claim in late August, so he may not have had time to get completely caught up with the playbook. He's also no better than No. 5 in the Saints' wideout pecking order, with all of Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Brandin Cooks and Devaughn Vele clearly ahead of him on the depth chart. Mason Tipton is also on the roster and is active for Week 1, so he may be ahead of Palmer as well.
Jack Stoll
Jack Stoll Elevated from practice squad
Sat, Sep 6, 2025, 5:01 PM
The Saints elevated Stoll from the practice squad Saturday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: Stoll will provide depth at the position behind Juwan Johnson and Moliki Matavao. Never much of a pass-catcher, Stoll has 22 career catches for 193 scoreless yards across 61 career regular-season appearances.
Alvin Kamara
Alvin Kamara Set for workhorse role again
Wed, Sep 3, 2025, 4:03 PM
Saints coach Kellen Moore said Wednesday that Kamara will take most of the team's carries, with other running backs ready to step up when there's a chance, Erin Summers of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: It's what fantasy managers want to hear four days before the season opener, even if there's nothing surprising or unexpected about Moore's quote. Kendre Miller won the No. 2 RB job this summer, but he didn't necessarily do enough to earn a big Week 1 role, more or less defaulting into his depth chart spot after rookie Devin Neal missed much of the summer with a hamstring injury. Miller and Neal could get more involved as the season progresses, but Kamara figures to take well over half of the snaps and touches this Sunday against San Francisco.
Jake Haener
Jake Haener Added back to roster
Tue, Sep 2, 2025, 3:59 PM
The Saints signed Haener off their practice squad Tuesday.
Analysis: After falling behind Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough in the competition for the Saints' starting quarterback job during the preseason, Haener was cut last week, but he ended up sticking in the organization as a member of the practice squad upon clearing waivers. Haener didn't have to wait long to land back on the 53-man roster, as the Saints had a spot available for him after releasing safety J.T. Gray on Monday. Haener will still slot in third on the depth chart at quarterback and is likely to remain inactive most weeks while both Rattler and Shough are available.
Trey Palmer
Trey Palmer Claimed by Saints
Wed, Aug 27, 2025, 12:15 PM
The Saints won a waiver claim for Palmer on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Palmer jumps from one NFC South team to another after sliding down the depth chart in Tampa Bay the past couple years. The Saints don't have nearly as much talent at wide receiver, but they currently have fewer injuries at the position, which means Palmer is unlikely to have a significant Week 1 role. A 2023 sixth-round pick, Palmer got a lot of playing time as a rookie but produced just 385 yards on 68 targets (5.7 YPT) before dropping to 22 targets (and improving to 7.8 YPT) in a depth role last year. He's the second late addition at WR in New Orleans following a trade for Devaughn Vele last week. The depth chart now looks a bit better behind locked-in starters Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, but the Saints' QB situation remains among the worst in the league -- the team is starting Spencer Rattler in Week 1 against Arizona.
Foster Moreau
Foster Moreau Moved to reserve/PUP list
Tue, Aug 26, 2025, 2:38 PM
The Saints placed Moreau (knee) on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports.
Analysis: Moreau will have to miss at least the first four games of the regular season as he continues to work his way back from an offseason knee procedure. He also missed all of team activities during spring and summer, and it remains to be seen whether New Orleans anticipates him getting returning to practice as soon as he's eligible. The same is true of fellow tight end Taysom Hill (knee), who the Saints also placed on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday.
Taysom Hill
Taysom Hill Placed on reserve/PUP list
Tue, Aug 26, 2025, 2:03 PM
The Saints placed Hill (ACL) on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: Hill will be required to miss at least the first four games of the regular season due to his placement on the reserve/PUP list, after which point New Orleans will have the option of opening a 21-day window for him to resume practicing. The transaction is no surprise, given that the 35-year-old is recovering from an ACL tear suffered Week 13 of last season. Both Hill's expected timetable to return, and the role he'll play in new head coach Kellen Moore's offense, remain to be seen.
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough Loses QB competition to Rattler
Tue, Aug 26, 2025, 1:52 PM
Shough will begin the regular season as the backup to Spencer Rattler, who coach Kellen Moore named the Week 1 starter Tuesday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: Shough spent the preseason in a prolonged competition with Rattler for the Week 1 starting gig, but at least to begin the regular season, he'll kick off his NFL career in a backup capacity. It may not be long before the rookie second-round pick gets a chance to take the field, though, if Rattler ends up struggling to move the offense consistently.
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler Wins QB competition in NOLA
Tue, Aug 26, 2025, 1:48 PM
Coach Kellen Moore named Rattler the Saints' Week 1 starting quarterback Tuesday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: The NFL's final QB competition finally has reached its conclusion, at least to begin the 2025 campaign, as Rattler has beat out rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough. In seven games (six starts) as a 2024 fifth-rounder last season, Rattler completed 130 of 228 passes (57 percent) for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions, had 18 carries for 146 yards and fumbled five times (three lost). He'll be under center for the Saints on Sunday, Sept. 7 against the Cardinals.
