Rob Dillingham goes off for 25 points, 12 assists
Sun, Jul 21, 2024, 10:56 AM
Rob Dillingham shot 11-of-18 from the field and 0-of-1 from the foul line in Sunday's 115-100 win over Orlando, scoring 25 points with three rebounds, 12 assists, two steals, and three 3-pointers in 32 minutes.
Analysis: Dillingham, whose rights Minnesota acquired from San Antonio on draft night, looked like a steal for most of summer league. While he did commit five turnovers in Sunday's finale, the positives far outweighed the negatives. Dillingham displayed a proper balance of getting his shot and setting up his teammates, a big reason why Minnesota ended its summer on a high note. Serving as Mike Conley's backup would limit Dillingham's fantasy upside in the short term, but the Timberwolves may have a future star on their hands.
Josh Minott
Josh Minott fills it up with 15/4/2/3/1 line
Thu, Jul 18, 2024, 7:35 PM
Josh Minott posted a full line on Thursday with 15 points (5-of-9 FGs), four rebounds, two assists, three steals, one block and two triples against Houston.
Analysis: Though he didn't see the floor much through his first two seasons in the NBA, Minott has gotten off to a strong start this summer. He is averaging 15.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.0 block and 1.0 triple through the team's first four games, which has been a great opportunity for him to show off his upside. Minott is still only 21 years old, and if he continues to develop, he has the makings of an impact player in fantasy basketball.
Leonard Miller
Leonard Miller stuffs stat sheet with 21/11/5/5/1
Thu, Jul 18, 2024, 7:22 PM
Leonard Miller led Minnesota with 21 points (9-of-17 FGs), 11 rebounds, five assists, five steals, one block and one triple in a 93-83 win over the Rockets on Thursday.
Analysis: Miller's first two games of this summer were a struggle, but after finishing with a 22/13 double-double in their last game, Miller provided an encore with another 20-point double-double in this one. He even tossed in a five-steal effort to truly dominate the box score. Miller is still only 20 years old and his upside is limitless. He barely saw the floor as a rookie, but he will battle to see more minutes in year two. However, at this point, he is just a dynasty stash that has tremendous upside.

Rob Dillingham puts up 15/5/6 line vs. Houston
Thu, Jul 18, 2024, 7:19 PM
Rob Dillingham struggled with his shot but still finished with 15 points (6-of-21 FGs), five rebounds, six assists and two triples against Houston on Thursday.
Analysis: Dillingham continues to struggle with his shot, but he was able to do enough in this game to help them get the win. He is averaging 11.8 points and 6.5 assists per game this summer, though he has yet to shoot 40% in a game. He will likely fill out the backup point guard role this upcoming season, with Minnesota banking on him developing into their point guard of the future. His production this season will be limited, but his long-term upside is evident.

Rob Dillingham dishes out eight assists vs. IND
Sun, Jul 14, 2024, 2:00 PM
Rob Dillingham finished Sunday's win over the Pacers with 14 points (5-of-14 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), two rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and two 3-pointers in 28 minutes.
Analysis: Having been utilized primarily as a scorer during his one season at Kentucky, Dillingham appears destined to spend more time on the ball in the NBA. He's run the point in summer league, and the rookie committed only two turnovers on Sunday afternoon. With Mike Conley in the fold, Dillingham will not be a starter anytime soon. However, that spot could be where he lands down the line, playing alongside Anthony Edwards. Dillingham will be a valuable option in dynasty league drafts, while managers in redrafts won't need to be as aggressive in where they select him.
Josh Minott
Josh Minott tallies double-double vs. Indiana
Sun, Jul 14, 2024, 1:54 PM
Josh Minott accumulated 15 points (4-of-10 FGs, 6-of-8 FTs), 12 rebounds, two steals, one block, and one 3-pointer in 30 minutes in Sunday's 105-94 win over the Pacers.
Analysis: The Timberwolves went into summer league hoping to see more production from Minott, and he's answered the call. The 2022 second-round pick, who has not earned consistent rotation minutes, recorded a double-double on Sunday and contributed two steals and one blocked shot. While Leonard Miller (7/3/1/0/1 in 17 minutes) has been relatively quiet in Las Vegas, Minott's growth has translated into impressive numbers.
Daishen Nix
Timberwolves re-signing Daishen Nix
Thu, Jul 11, 2024, 7:41 AM
Minnesota Timberwolves on Twitter
Minnesota announced that Daishen Nix is signing a two-way deal.
Analysis: The Timberwolves waived Matt Ryan to sign Nix to a two-way deal last season and have decided to bring him back for 2024-25. He averaged just 3.3 minutes in the 15 games he appeared in last season, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect much from him. Especially give the guard talent that Minnesota added through the 2024 NBA Draft.

Timberwolves sign Jesse Edwards to two-way deal

Minnesota Timberwolves PR on X
The Timberwolves have signed Jesse Edwards to a two-way contract, per a release from the team.
Analysis: The 24-year-old center spent last season at West Virginia after spending the first four seasons of his college career at Syracuse. He averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 28.3 minutes per game last year, and he will now likely spend next season with Minnesota's G-League affiliate in Iowa.

Adrian Wojnarowski on X
Joe Ingles has agreed to a one-year deal with Minnesota, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Analysis: Ingles spent last season with Orlando, and now he'll look to fill some of the bench minutes in Minnesota. Kyle Anderson left for Golden State, so Ingles may have a role immediately. However, he's past his days of contributing in fantasy, though he may be worth streaming from time to time.

Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Anderson is inking a three-year, $27 million deal with Golden State via sign-and-trade. The Dubs are sending the Minnesota Timberwolves a future second-round pick and cash in the for Anderson.
Analysis: Anderson doesn't have much fantasy appeal as a tweener who'll likely back up Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green for stints. He averaged just 6.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season.
Luka Garza

Adrian Wojnarowski on X
Luka Garza has agreed to return to Minnesota on a two-year deal, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Analysis: Garza has spent the last two seasons in Minnesota, and he will be back for at least two more, barring a trade in the future. He averaged 4.9 minutes across 25 appearances last year, and he shouldn't see a dramatic increase in minutes this upcoming season.

Spurs draft Rob Dillingham, trade him to Minnesota
Wed, Jun 26, 2024, 8:03 PM
Adrian Wojnarowski on X
The Spurs have selected Rob Dillingham with the No. 8 pick in the draft and traded him to Minnesota in exchange for a 2030 pick swap and an unprotected 2031 first round pick.
Analysis: The 6'2” guard only started one game at Kentucky, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't one of their best players all season long. He averaged 15.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.0 steal and 2.0 triples in 23.3 minutes per game and flashed his elite shooting and ball handling prowess. There are questions about his size and defensive ability, but he has the talent to be an offensive menace. He is one of the best shooters in the draft and has no issues creating his own shot. He's an electric scorer with the tools to thrive in the modern NBA. Dillingham is already on the move to Minnesota after the Spurs drafted him with their second pick in the top ten. It is unclear what a trade package looks like at this time, but Dillingham could be the successor to Mike Conley and provide an offensive punch off the bench in year one.

Woj: MIN, Chris Finch agree to four-year extension
Mon, Jun 24, 2024, 5:28 PM
Adrian Wojnarowski on X
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Timberwolves and coach Chris Finch have agreed to a four-year contract extension.
Analysis: After taking over as Timberwolves coach during the 2020-21 campaign, Finch has led the franchise to the playoffs each of the last three seasons. The 2023-24 season was one of the most successful in team history, as Minnesota won 56 games and reached the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2004. Finch has worked well with the team's stars, most notably franchise cornerstone Anthony Edwards.
Kyle Anderson
Kyle Anderson hopes to return to Minnesota
Fri, May 31, 2024, 4:05 PM
Jon Krawczynski on Twitter
During his season-ending media availability, pending free agent forward Kyle Anderson said he hopes to remain with the Timberwolves.
Analysis: A reliable option off the bench for the Timberwolves, Anderson will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. In 79 games, SloMo averaged 6.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 22.6 minutes, shooting 46.0% from the field and 70.8% from the foul line. Anderson hopes that he and the Timberwolves come to terms on a new deal, with the fit being good on and off the court. “My family's here,” Anderson said on Friday. “My son is on the spectrum. He's doing really well here in the Minnesota school system, and his development is really key. And he's doing so well, so, you know, that plays a part into it.” While he will have value among playoff-caliber teams, Anderson's decision is unlikely to impact fantasy basketball significantly.
Mike Conley
Mike Conley posts 7/4/2/2 line in Game 5 loss
Thu, May 30, 2024, 6:01 PM
Mike Conley recorded a stat line of seven points (2-of-5 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer in 21 minutes in Thursday's 124-103 loss to the Mavericks.
Analysis: Dealing with a strained right soleus muscle throughout the conference finals, Conley only played 21 minutes on Thursday. The nature of Game 5 had much to do with that, as Dallas blew things wide open during the first quarter and did not look back. This was a rough end for a veteran point guard who played in 76 games after injuries limited him to 24 the season prior. Conley's scoring average decreased by over two points but still provided top 75 per-game value in 9-cat formats. Expecting that level of production from him would be unrealistic, especially since he'll turn 37 in October, but Conley is undoubtedly capable.
Jaden McDaniels
Jaden McDaniels scores eight points in Game 5 loss
Thu, May 30, 2024, 5:53 PM
Jaden McDaniels logged 21 minutes in Thursday's 124-103 loss to the Mavericks, amassing eight points (3-of-6 FGs), one rebound, two blocks, and two 3-pointers.
Analysis: McDaniels struggled with fouls in Game 5, playing a series-low 21 minutes as a result. After scoring 24 points in the series opener, the Timberwolves wing struggled in Games 2 and 5 while producing solid all-around efforts in Games 3 and 4. McDaniels is one of the top wing defenders in the NBA, but his fantasy value is capped due to his being no higher than fourth in the offensive pecking order on most nights. While his status as a starter led many fantasy managers to select Jaden with a late-round pick (Yahoo ADP: 114), he finished just inside the top 200 in 9-cat formats. McDaniels should be selected in most drafts, but managers must keep their expectations in check.
Naz Reid
Naz Reid struggles in Game 5 blowout loss to Mavs
Thu, May 30, 2024, 5:45 PM
Naz Reid shot 2-of-10 from the field and 1-of-1 from the foul line in Thursday's loss to the Mavericks, tallying five points, four rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot in 27 minutes.
Analysis: Reid's production tailed off considerably after scoring 14 points or more in the first three games of the Western Conference Finals. He only attempted six shots in Game 4, but Game 5 was arguably his most disappointing effort of the postseason. The five points were the fewest in a game for Reid since Minnesota's Game 2 win over Phoenix in the first round, and he missed all four of his 3-point attempts. While Reid finished the regular season ranked outside the top 100 in fantasy, he was a dependable option despite coming off the bench. Minnesota would likely have to move Karl-Anthony Towns or Rudy Gobert for his ceiling to be raised.
Rudy Gobert
Rudy Gobert limited to five rebounds on Thursday
Thu, May 30, 2024, 5:37 PM
Rudy Gobert shot 4-of-8 from the field and 1-of-2 from the foul line in Thursday's loss to the Mavericks, amassing nine points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 26 minutes.
Analysis: Gobert was relatively quiet on Thursday night after recording a double-double in Minnesota's Game 4 victory. He averaged 11.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for the series but could not significantly impact the action as a rim-protector. Gobert's 2023-24 season was an improvement on 2022-23, his first after being traded to Minnesota. The chemistry between him and Karl-Anthony Towns improved, but the partnership lowered the fantasy ceilings of both players. Gobert has top-50 potential, but this represents his ceiling rather than his floor.
Anthony Edwards
Anthony Edwards finishes Game 5 loss with 28 PTS
Thu, May 30, 2024, 5:31 PM
Anthony Edwards logged 43 minutes in Thursday's 124-103 loss to the Mavericks, accumulating 28 points (10-of-18 FGs, 4-of-6 FTs), nine rebounds, six assists, one steal, one block, and four 3-pointers.
Analysis: Edwards did what he could to extend the Western Conference Finals, but the lack of production from Minnesota's supporting cast was too much to overcome. Already accepted as one of the NBA's top young talents, Ant-Man took things to another level this season. He played well enough during the run to the conference finals to be the focus of some “future face of the NBA” chatter, which should only intensify in the years to come. Edwards' fantasy value moving forward will depend on how much of the playmaking responsibilities he's asked to shoulder. Mike Conley isn't getting any younger, and there could come a point where Edwards shifts to the point. That could be what makes him a first-round player in standard leagues.
Karl-Anthony Towns
Karl-Anthony Towns posts 28/12/2/1 line in Game 5
Thu, May 30, 2024, 5:16 PM
Karl-Anthony Towns shot 9-of-20 from the field and 9-of-10 from the foul line in Thursday's 124-103 loss to Dallas, tallying 28 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one 3-pointer in 38 minutes.
Analysis: Towns may have tied for the team lead in scoring, but he had another rough night from three in Minnesota's final game. After shooting 4-of-5 from three in Game 4, KAT was 1-of-6 on Thursday night. He shot 24.2% from three for the series and 37.9% from the field overall. A player many expected to approach top 25 fantasy value before the season began, Towns was a 4th-round player in 9-cat formats. While the chemistry between KAT and Rudy Gobert improved, the continued emergence of Anthony Edwards factored into the former's fantasy production. As long as Minnesota keeps Towns and Gobert together, the former will have a lower fantasy ceiling than he did pre-trade.
