Woj: Grizzlies sign Jordan Goodwin to two-way deal
Sat, Feb 24, 2024, 12:54 PM
Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Grizzlies are signing Jordan Goodwin to a two-way contract.
Analysis: Initially on a 10-day contract, Goodwin has averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 3-pointers in two appearances with the Grizzlies. While the contract doesn't make him a relevant option in most fantasy leagues, it does secure his immediate future with the franchise. To open up a spot for Goodwin, the Grizzlies are waiving Jacob Gilyard, who was close to the 50-games played limit for a two-way player.
John Konchar
John Konchar doesn't return after thumb injury
Sat, Feb 24, 2024, 10:23 AM
Grizzlies PR on Twitter
John Konchar (left thumb soreness) exited Friday's loss to the Clippers during the fourth quarter and did not return.
Analysis: Konchar was forced to exit Friday's game with 4:18 remaining in the fourth quarter, with the Grizzlies announcing shortly after that it was doubtful he would return. He did not play again, finishing with seven points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals, one blocked shot, and one 3-pointer in 21 minutes. A potential absence for Konchar could push Yuta Watanabe into the rotation, but that isn't guaranteed, and he would not be worth streaming.
Jaren Jackson
Jaren Jackson Jr. drops 29 with full line in loss
Fri, Feb 23, 2024, 9:48 PM
Jaren Jackson Jr. provided 29 points, four rebounds, five assists, four steals and two triples across 32 minutes in Friday's loss to the Clippers.
Analysis: JJJ sat out the Grizzlies' last game before the All-Star break, due to a quad injury. In eight healthy games before the injury, Jackson Jr. averaged 26.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.3 blocks and 2.0 triples. He was phenomenal in his return Friday, turning in a game-high point total with exceptional peripherals. With most of Memphis' core group of players injured, JJJ is the clear leader in the clubhouse, and fantasy managers should expect more big games like this moving forward.
Luke Kennard
MEM starting Kennard, Vince, Ziaire, Aldama, JJJ
Fri, Feb 23, 2024, 6:35 PM
Tomer Azarly on Twitter
Luke Kennard, Vince Williams Jr., Ziaire Williams, Santi Aldama, and Jaren Jackson Jr. will start Friday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: The Grizzlies have made two changes to their starting lineup in the team's first game out of the All-Star break. Kennard and Jackson are healthy, so they'll start, with Jacob Gilyard moving to the bench and Trey Jemison made inactive. GG Jackson's value takes a slight hit, but he remains one of the Grizzlies' top reserves.
Jaren Jackson
Jaren Jackson Jr., Jake LaRavia available Friday
Fri, Feb 23, 2024, 6:10 PM
Grizzlies PR on Twitter
Jaren Jackson Jr. (right quad tendon soreness) and Jake LaRavia (left ankle sprain) are available for Friday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: Jackson is back after sitting out Memphis' final game before the All-Star break, a February 15 win over the Bucks. Due to JJJ's return, the Grizzlies have made Trey Jemison inactive. As for LaRavia, this will be his first opportunity to play since spraining his ankle on January 13. He was not much of a fantasy option before the injury, so that shouldn't change on Friday night.
Desmond Bane
Desmond Bane (ankle) to return in 3-5 weeks
Thu, Feb 22, 2024, 8:06 PM
Memphis Grizzlies PR on X
Desmond Bane (left ankle sprain) is expected to return in 3-5 weeks.
Analysis: This update from the team has Bane returning to the floor in mid-late March, which isn't encouraging for managers that will be in the latter stages of the fantasy playoffs. Vince Williams Jr. and Luke Kennard will continue to play large roles with Bane sidelined.
Marcus Smart
Marcus Smart (finger) to be evaluated in 3 weeks
Thu, Feb 22, 2024, 8:06 PM
Grizzlies PR on Twitter
Marcus Smart (right ring finger injury) will be re-evaluated in three weeks.
Analysis: Smart, who injured his finger on January 9, is progressing in his recovery. However, his finger will remain in a splint for another three weeks before team doctors re-evaluate him. At this point in the season, managers may want to look for alternatives, as Smart may not be a full go until the fantasy playoffs begin. And there's no guarantee that the Grizzlies, well out of contention for a playoff spot, would put him at risk at that point in the season.
Luke Kennard
Luke Kennard, John Konchar available on Friday
Thu, Feb 22, 2024, 5:21 PM
Grizzlies PR on Twitter
Luke Kennard (left knee soreness) and John Konchar (left quadriceps contusion) are available for Friday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: Kennard and Konchar are back after sitting out Memphis' February 15 win over Milwaukee, strengthening the Grizzlies' perimeter rotation. Ziaire Williams is the player who will be impacted the most by the returns, as he was thrust into the starting lineup last week. Worth streaming in deep leagues when Memphis is shorthanded (and the schedule is light), Williams can be dropped onto the waiver wire.
Derrick Rose
Derrick Rose (ankle) absent from injury report
Thu, Feb 22, 2024, 5:18 PM
Grizzlies PR on Twitter
Derrick Rose (right ankle soreness) is not on the injury report for Friday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: Rose is available after being among the many Grizzlies sidelined for their February 15 win over Milwaukee. His return likely means fewer minutes for Jordan Goodwin, limiting the guard's fantasy potential. Due to multiple injuries, Rose hasn't been able to play enough to merit being rostered in most leagues.
Jaren Jackson
Jaren Jackson Jr. (quad) probable Friday vs. LAC
Thu, Feb 22, 2024, 5:06 PM
Grizzlies PR on Twitter
Jaren Jackson Jr. (right quadriceps tendon soreness) is probable for Friday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: Jackson is on track to be available after sitting out Memphis' February 15 win over Milwaukee. His return would bump Trey Jemison back to the bench, and Jemison wasn't worth streaming in that matchup with the Bucks. There is no need to have him rostered in fantasy.
Jake LaRavia
Jake LaRavia (ankle) expected to play on Friday
Thu, Feb 22, 2024, 4:00 PM
Jonah Dylan on Twitter
Jake LaRavia (left ankle sprain) was a full participant in Thursday's practice and is expected to be available for Friday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: LaRavia has been sidelined since January 13, when he injured his ankle during a loss to the Knicks. Officially listed as questionable, his eventual return will give the Grizzlies another option on the wing but is unlikely to significantly impact fantasy basketball immediately. Ziaire Williams and GG Jackson could take a hit regarding playing time once LaRavia is a full go, but fantasy managers who have the latter rostered should hold onto him.
Scotty Pippen
Scotty Pippen Jr. (back) out at least three weeks
Fri, Feb 16, 2024, 12:58 AM
Grizzlies PR on Twitter
The Grizzlies announced on Thursday that Scotty Pippen Jr. (bulging disk, lower back) will be re-evaluated in three weeks.
Analysis: Thursday's win over Milwaukee was the second straight that Pippen missed after prematurely exiting Monday's loss to the Pelicans. An MRI revealed a bulging disk in his lower back, which will be treated “conservatively” with physical therapy. Pippen's absence moves Jacob Gilyard up in the perimeter rotation but will not impact fantasy basketball. Vince Williams, John Konchar, and Luke Kennard will handle most of the perimeter minutes when all are healthy.
Ziaire Williams
Ziaire Williams tallies 27 points, four triples
Thu, Feb 15, 2024, 10:41 PM
Ziaire Williams accounted for 27 points (9-of13 FGs, 5-of-7 FTs), four rebounds, four assists, three steals, and four 3-pointers in 36 minutes in Thursday's 113-110 win over Milwaukee.
Analysis: The absence of John Konchar pushed Williams into the starting lineup on Thursday, and he made the most of his opportunity. He established a new career-high with 27 points while making four 3-pointers in a game for the fifth time as a professional. This was Williams' second game after missing eight with a left hand injury, and now he'll have some time off due to the All-Star break. He doesn't have to be added immediately after Thursday's performance, but Ziaire could have value during the silly season. Jordan Goodwin, who started at the point, would also qualify, provided he manages to stick with the team. On a 10-day contract, Goodwin accounted for 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes.
Vince Williams
Vince Williams Jr. drops 18/12/7/2 line vs. Bucks
Thu, Feb 15, 2024, 10:38 PM
Vince Williams Jr. amassed 18 points (7-of-11 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), 12 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals in Thursday's 113-110 win over the Bucks in 34 minutes.
Analysis: Williams is well past that point of being a player to target ahead of the silly season, as he's rostered in 68% of Yahoo leagues. The production is why he's in that position, as he's been a top 40 player in 9-cat formats over the past month. Given the talent of the team's injured players and the Grizzlies' need to further evaluate his potential fit once the roster is whole, Williams appears safe from a late-season shutdown. Another role player who has worked his way onto the radar in deep leagues is Lamar Stevens, who played 29 minutes off the bench and finished with 13 points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one 3-pointer. While not worthy of a pickup ahead of Memphis' first post-break games, Stevens is worth tracking once games resume.
GG Jackson
Another TNT showcase: GG Jackson scores 27 points
Thu, Feb 15, 2024, 10:13 PM
GG Jackson played 29 minutes in Thursday's 113-110 win over the Bucks, scoring 27 points (10-of-17 FGs, 1-of-3 FTs) with one rebound, one blocked shot, and six 3-pointers.
Analysis: Jackson's best performances this season have seemingly occurred in games televised by TNT, with Thursday night being the latest example. The rookie didn't offer much production outside of points and 3-pointers, but he was good enough in those categories to provide solid value. Rostered in 34% of Yahoo leagues, Jackson has provided 13th-round value in 9-cat formats over the past two weeks. At this stage in his career, he's a better fit for points leagues than category formats, but Jackson will undoubtedly continue to get his opportunities to shine.
Jordan Goodwin
MEM starting Goodwin, Vince, Ziaire, Aldama, Trey
Thu, Feb 15, 2024, 7:08 PM
NBA Lineups
Jordan Goodwin, Vince Williams Jr., Ziaire Williams, Santi Aldama, and Trey Jemison will start Thursday's game against the Bucks.
Analysis: The shorthanded Grizzlies have three new starters for their final game before the All-Star break. Goodwin, Ziaire Williams, and Jemison will start, with the former offering the highest fantasy upside. Goodwin is worth streaming in this spot, with only three games on the schedule.
Jaren Jackson
Jackson Jr., Konchar, Kennard downgraded to out
Thu, Feb 15, 2024, 5:56 PM
Jonah Dylan on X
Jaren Jackson Jr. (right quadriceps tendon soreness), Luke Kennard (left knee soreness) and John Konchar (left quadriceps contusion) have all been ruled out for Thursday's game against Milwaukee.
Analysis: Jackson Jr. and Konchar were initially doubtful, so their absence isn't a surprise. Kennard had a chance to play, but all three will sit out the second leg of the back-to-back after beating Houston on Wednesday. That will open up three starting spots and plenty of minutes for GG Jackson, Lamar Stevens, Jordan Goodwin and Ziaire Williams.
Scotty Pippen
Pippen Jr., Rose, LaRavia out Thursday vs. Bucks
Thu, Feb 15, 2024, 1:16 PM
Memphis Grizzlies PR on X
Scotty Pippen Jr. (low back soreness), Derrick Rose (right ankle soreness) and Jake LaRavia (left ankle sprain) have been ruled out for Thursday's game against Milwaukee.
Analysis: Rose will join Pippen Jr. and LaRavia on the sidelines for this game, after both had to sit out on Wednesday. Jordan Goodwin played 20 minutes off the bench in their last game and should play an even larger role with Rose sidelined.
Jaren Jackson
Jaren Jackson Jr., John Konchar doubtful vs. Bucks
Thu, Feb 15, 2024, 1:13 PM
Memphis Grizzlies PR on X
Jaren Jackson Jr. (right quadriceps tendon soreness) and John Konchar (left quadriceps contusion) are doubtful to play against the Bucks on Thursday.
Analysis: After starting on Wednesday, both players are expected to sit out the second leg of the back-to-back. GG Jackson should be a high-priority add as a starter, with Ziaire Williams and Lamar Stevens having a chance to join him in the starting unit.
Luke Kennard
Luke Kennard (knee) questionable vs. Milwaukee
Thu, Feb 15, 2024, 1:09 PM
Memphis Grizzlies PR on X
Luke Kennard (left knee soreness) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Bucks.
Analysis: Kennard scored 19 points in 30 minutes as a starter on Wednesday, but his potential absence on Thursday would open up extra minutes for guys like Ziaire Williams, Lamar Stevens and Jordan Goodwin, with at least one of them moving into the starting unit.
