Grizzlies sign Jay Huff to two-way contract
Wed, Jul 24, 2024, 10:09 AM
Grizzlies PR on Twitter
The Grizzlies announced on Wednesday that they have signed Jay Huff to a two-way contract.
Analysis: The 7-foot-1 Huff is on the move after spending last season with the Nuggets on a two-way contract. He's appeared in 31 NBA games for the Nuggets, Wizards, and Lakers, with the majority of his minutes coming in the G League. Huff's addition will not impact fantasy basketball, as the Grizzlies have Jaren Jackson Jr., Zach Edey, and Brandon Clarke among their frontcourt options. To make room for Huff, the Grizzlies waived Trey Jemison.
Scotty Pippen
Scotty Pippen Jr. posts 29/5/11/4/2 line vs. Heat
Mon, Jul 22, 2024, 4:59 PM
Scotty Pippen Jr. shot 9-of-24 from the field and 10-of-13 from the foul line in Monday's 120-118 overtime loss to Miami, scoring 29 points with five rebounds, 11 assists, four steals, two blocks, and one 3-pointer in 36 minutes.
Analysis: Some believed Pippen deserved to be named MVP of the NBA 2K25 Summer League, especially since the winner (Brooklyn's Jalen Wilson) was a second-team selection while the Grizzlies point guard made the first team. Pippen was outstanding throughout Memphis' time in Las Vegas, but the question is what this will do for his chances of winning the backup point guard job. Derrick Rose remains on the roster, but his injury history may leave the door ajar for Pippen. Regardless of who wins the job, backing up Ja Morant doesn't do much for one's fantasy value. However, given Pippen's fight to stick in the NBA, having the opportunity represents a step in the right direction.
GG Jackson
GG Jackson finishes OT defeat with 28/9/2/2 line
Mon, Jul 22, 2024, 4:52 PM
GG Jackson accumulated 28 points (11-of-16 FGs, 3-of-8 FTs), nine rebounds, two assists, two steals, and three 3-pointers in 37 minutes in Monday's 120-118 loss to the Heat.
Analysis: Jackson did not leave Las Vegas with the NBA 2K25 Summer League title, but Monday's title game defeat capped a very encouraging summer for him. The 2023 second-round pick did more than just score, making strides as a facilitator while consistently taking on challenging defensive matchups. With a healthy Grizzlies roster, Jackson must provide value off the bench. He took significant steps in the right direction this month, which should only benefit GG and the Grizzlies moving forward. His fantasy value will take a hit with Memphis at full strength, but Jackson will be worth a roll of the dice as a late-round pick.
Jake LaRavia
Jake LaRavia scores game-high 32 points vs. Heat
Mon, Jul 22, 2024, 4:47 PM
Jake LaRavia amassed 32 points (11-of-21 FGs, 7-of-9 FTs), six rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block, and three 3-pointers in 35 minutes in Monday's 120-118 overtime loss to the Heat.
Analysis: LaRavia produced one of the best individual performances of the NBA 2K25 Summer League in Monday's title game, but it wasn't enough to get Memphis the victory. Overall, he had a good summer, putting up quality numbers as one of the summer Grizzlies' primary scoring options. The biggest issue for LaRavia in his first two seasons has been availability, as he's played 70 NBA games. If the 2022 first-round pick can remain healthy, he can be a solid contributor off the bench.
GG Jackson
GG Jackson finishes semifinal win with 20 points
Sun, Jul 21, 2024, 10:22 AM
GG Jackson finished Sunday's 99-98 win over the Clippers with 20 points (8-of-19 FGs), four rebounds, four assists, one block, and four 3-pointers in 37 minutes.
Analysis: Jackson had another productive day offensively, scoring 20 points to help propel the Grizzlies into Monday's championship game. While the turnover (six) count wasn't great, this has been a summer of immense growth for the 2023 second-round pick. Primarily a scorer last season, Jackson has been tasked with expanding his game on both ends of the floor. He's taken on some difficult defensive assignments but has not backed down from the competition, which is a good sign for the Grizzlies heading into next season. Jackson's fantasy upside on a healthy Grizzlies team will be limited, but he'll be worth a late-round roll of the dice in many leagues.
Scotty Pippen
Scotty Pippen Jr. records 23/10/10/2/1 line Sunday
Sun, Jul 21, 2024, 10:18 AM
Scotty Pippen Jr. logged 33 minutes in Sunday's 99-98 win over the Clippers, accumulating 23 points (5-of-15 FGs, 10-of-10 FTs), 10 rebounds, 10 assists, two steals, one block, and three 3-pointers.
Analysis: Pippen had a tough afternoon shooting the basketball from two, making just two of his ten attempts inside the 3-point line. But he frequently got to the foul line, and the overall production was enough to help push the Grizzlies into Monday's championship game. Last season, he benefitted from the Grizzlies' many injuries to earn credible rotation minutes. This summer, the goal has been to show Taylor Jenkins and the rest of the coaching staff that he can handle the backup point guard responsibilities. That isn't a spot of excellent fantasy value with a healthy Ja Morant in the lineup, but Pippen would be worth streaming on occasion if he can secure that job.
Mamadi Diakite
Mamadi Diakite dealt to Memphis
Fri, Jul 19, 2024, 7:34 AM
Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Mamadi Diakite was traded to the Grizzlies for Ziaire Williams and a 2030 second-round pick.
Analysis: Two weeks after being traded to the Nets, Diakite is on the move again. The Virginia product has appeared in 55 games for five teams across four NBA seasons, and he's unlikely to see significant run for Memphis, barring another bizarre multitude of injuries. He'll provide forward depth for his new team, and he's not on the fantasy radar.
GG Jackson
GG Jackson puts up 17/7/6 line vs. New Orleans
Thu, Jul 18, 2024, 2:29 PM
GG Jackson led Memphis with 17 points (4-of-14 FGs), seven rebounds, six assists, one steal and two triples against New Orleans on Thursday.
Analysis: Jackson had a poor shooting performance in this game, but he has been excellent overall this summer. He stepped into a large role in his first season despite being a second round pick due to the injuries the team dealt with, and he proved that he should continue to be part of their rotation this upcoming season with his performance this summer. However, there won't be as much fantasy upside this year with the team healthy, though he will still be worth a late-round pick.
Scotty Pippen
Scotty Pippen Jr. posts 17/6/11/3 line vs. Pels
Thu, Jul 18, 2024, 2:20 PM
Scotty Pippen Jr. recorded a double-double on Thursday with 17 points (6-of-11 FGs), six rebounds, 11 assists, three steals and one triple in an 88-77 win over the Pelicans.
Analysis: Pippen Jr. stepped up last season when Ja Morant and Marcus Smart were sidelined, and he has been even better this summer. There won't be as much fantasy upside with the rest of the team healthy, but he should be a vital bench piece for Memphis this upcoming season. Most of his fantasy production will come as a streaming option when there are injuries in front of him, though he may be able to make enough of an impact off the bench to provide value in deeper leagues.
Zach Edey
Zach Edey exits early with right ankle injury
Thu, Jul 18, 2024, 12:54 PM
Chris Herrington on X
Zach Edey has been ruled out for the rest of Thursday's game against the Pelicans due to a right ankle injury.
Analysis: The good news is that it isn't the same ankle that has forced him to miss their last few Summer League games. The bad news is that he has played in two games this summer and has two ankle injuries. He had six points, three rebounds and one block in nine minutes before his exit. He was able to walk to the locker room unassisted, which is a good sign that this isn't a major injury.
Scotty Pippen
Scotty Pippen Jr. scores 16 fourth-quarter points
Wed, Jul 17, 2024, 3:06 PM
Scotty Pippen Jr. amassed 25 points (9-of-14 FGs, 6-of-7 FTs), four rebounds, nine assists, one steal, and one 3-pointer in 31 minutes in Wednesday's 104-98 win over Orlando.
Analysis: Pippen has played well throughout the summer and was at his best during the crunch time of Wednesday's game. He scored 16 points in the fourth quarter as Memphis avoided blowing a double-digit lead completely. Pippen's goal is to show that he deserves to be a backup with the Grizzlies, and he's played very well in Las Vegas (and Salt Lake City before that). However, that may not be enough to make Pippen a viable fantasy option, as the Grizzlies will have Ja Morant and Marcus Smart in the lineup.
GG Jackson
GG Jackson tallies 27 points, 13 rebounds vs. ORL
Wed, Jul 17, 2024, 3:02 PM
GG Jackson finished Wednesday's 104-98 win over Orlando with 27 points (10-of-20 FGs, 4-of-9 FTs), 13 rebounds, and three 3-pointers in 31 minutes.
Analysis: After playing well at the Salt Lake City summer league, Jackson has been even better in Las Vegas. He finished Wednesday's victory with his second double-double in as many games, and the Grizzlies have also given Jackson more challenging defensive matchups. That's the end of the floor where GG needs to improve the most, and while he did not produce any defensive stats against the Magic, the second-year forward was not a liability. He'll be worth taking a late-round flier on in fantasy drafts this fall.
Scotty Pippen
Scotty Pippen Jr. posts 19/2/7/5 line in blowout
Mon, Jul 15, 2024, 4:08 PM
Scotty Pippen Jr. amassed 19 points (8-of-16 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), two rebounds, seven assists, five steals, and one 3-pointer in 25 minutes in Monday's 108-88 win over Dallas.
Analysis: Pippen continues to play well on both ends of the floor for the Grizzlies' summer league team. In addition to doing an excellent job of setting up his teammates, the two-way contract guard has also been a pest defensively, consistently picking up for 94 feet. With Ja Morant and Marcus Smart returning after injury-riddled 2023-24 seasons, Pippen's minutes will take a significant hit. However, his willingness to do what teams require of backup point guards will give him opportunities to contribute.
GG Jackson
GG Jackson tallies 23 points, 11 rebounds vs. Mavs
Mon, Jul 15, 2024, 4:04 PM
GG Jackson shot 9-of-19 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line in Monday's 108-88 win over Dallas, finishing with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and three 3-pointers in 29 minutes.
Analysis: Jackson's play has steadily improved after getting off to a slow start in his summer opener on July 8. He played well in finishing the Grizzlies' time in Salt Lake City, and progress has continued in Las Vegas. While the minutes are unlikely to match the workload Jackson was asked to shoulder as a rookie due to the Grizzlies being healthy, he will be able to earn rotation minutes when training camp opens in September. The “microwave-like” scoring ability makes Jackson worthy of consideration in deep fantasy leagues.
Scotty Pippen
Scotty Pippen Jr. posts 17/3/5/3/2 line vs. OKC
Wed, Jul 10, 2024, 4:21 PM
Scotty Pippen Jr. posted a full line on Wednesday with 17 points (6-of-19 FGs), three rebounds, five assists, three steals, two blocks and one triple against the Thunder.
Analysis: Pippen didn't play as well as he did in their first game of this summer, but he was able to provide a well-rounded stat line that will make him worth keeping an eye on. He won't see as many minutes this upcoming season with Ja Morant and Marcus Smart healthy, but he will be a solid backup point guard for them. If he ends up playing extended minutes at some point due to injuries, he will be an intriguing streaming option.
Trey Jemison
Trey Jemison leads Grizzlies with 20 points
Wed, Jul 10, 2024, 4:13 PM
Trey Jemison led Memphis with 20 points (9-of-12 FGs), seven rebounds and one assist in an 80-77 loss to Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Analysis: Jemison made 25 appearances for the Grizzlies last season, where he averaged 6.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. With Memphis healthier heading into next season, Jemison likely won't play as often as he did during his rookie year. However, if he continues to play like he did in this game, he may creep into the rotation to provide center depth behind Zach Edey, who sat out this game.
GG Jackson
GG Jackson puts up 18/8/2/3 line vs. Thunder
Wed, Jul 10, 2024, 4:10 PM
GG Jackson lit up the Thunder with 18 points (7-of-14 FGs), eight rebounds, two assists, three steals, three triples and six turnovers on Wednesday.
Analysis: Jackson sat out of their previous Summer League game, but he returned to the lineup to play on Wednesday. He played better than he did against the Jazz, where he shot 6-of-20 from the floor. However, his six turnovers in this game weren't ideal. He's still only 19 years old, which makes him younger than a lot of the players in this year's class. He had an excellent rookie season, and it is encouraging to see him continue to play well this summer.
Zach Edey
Zach Edey, Jake LaRavia sitting out Wednesday
Wed, Jul 10, 2024, 12:29 PM
Michael Wallace on X
Zach Edey and Jake LaRavia will sit out against the Thunder on Wednesday as they deal with ankle soreness.
Analysis: Both players are sitting out with minor injuries, and the Grizzlies are just being cautious with them. This is the team's third straight day with a game, and there is no reason for push them to play in Summer League. Jaylen Wells and Cam Spencer stepped up on Tuesday night and should play extended minutes once again.

Cam Spencer turns in 18/7/8 line vs. 76ers
Tue, Jul 9, 2024, 3:10 PM
Cam Spencer provided solid value on Tuesday with 18 points (7-of-14 FGs), seven rebounds, eight assists, one steal and three 3-pointers against Philadelphia.
Analysis: Spencer only played 19 minutes in his first Summer League appearance, but with players like GG Jackson, Jake LaRavia, Scotty Pippen Jr. and Zach Edey all sitting out, Spencer was forced to take on a larger role. He ended up approaching triple-double territory, which is encouraging to see. His game is built on being a smart player that can shoot the ball, so this type of performance likely won't be typical for him throughout his career. The second-round pick won't make much of a fantasy impact this season, since he will likely spend most of the year in the G-League.

Jaylen Wells drops 27, knocks down game-winner
Tue, Jul 9, 2024, 2:57 PM
Jaylen Wells led the Grizzlies with 27 points (9-of-23 FGs), six rebounds, three assists, one steal and three triples in an 87-85 win over the 76ers on Tuesday.
Analysis: Wells struggled in 25 minutes in his first Summer League game, but he took on a larger role in his second appearance with Zach Edey, GG Jackson, Scotty Pippen Jr. and Jake LaRavia all sitting out. He led the team with 27 points and gave them the win by knocking down a floater off of an offensive rebound at the buzzer. Wells likely won't make much of a fantasy impact on a stacked Memphis team this season, but it is encouraging to see him play well this summer.
