Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Blasts walk-off grand slam
Thu, May 14, 2026, 6:44 AM
Varsho went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Wednesday's 5-3 win over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: After the Rays scored twice to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the 10th inning, Varsho came up with the bases loaded with one out in the bottom half of the frame and launched an opposite-field grand slam off a two-strike pitch from Aaron Brooks, sending Toronto home with a win. It's the fifth homer of the year for Varsho, who's gone 7-for-21 (.333) with an .840 OPS in his last five games. Overall, he's slashing .250/.321/.403 with 13 RBI, 19 runs scored and three steals across 159 plate appearances this season.
Dylan Cease
Dylan Cease Sharp again in no-decision
Wed, May 13, 2026, 10:33 PM
Cease did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Rays, allowing a run on three hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out nine.
Analysis: While Toronto failed to take the lead until the 10th inning, leaving Cease with a no-decision, it was another excellent outing from the right-hander, who's now gone seven innings in each of his last three starts. Cease's ERA is down to 2.41 across nine starts (52.1 innings) with a 1.18 WHIP and 75 strikeouts, good for second-most in the majors. He'll look to keep rolling his next time out, tentatively lined up for next week on the road against the Yankees.
Brandon Valenzuela
Brandon Valenzuela Resting up Wednesday
Wed, May 13, 2026, 2:53 PM
Valenzuela is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Valenzuela will be getting a routine day off for the series finale after he had started in both of the Blue Jays' previous two contests. Tyler Heineman will handle catching duties for Toronto on Wednesday.
Andres Gimenez
Andres Gimenez Out of Tuesday's lineup
Tue, May 12, 2026, 4:53 PM
Gimenez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Gimenez will occasionally sit versus left-handed starting pitchers, and that'll be the case Tuesday with Tampa Bay sending out southpaw Shane McClanahan. Ernie Clement is getting the nod at shortstop in Gimenez's place, opening up the keystone for Lenyn Sosa.
Jake Bloss
Jake Bloss Kicks off rehab assignment
Tue, May 12, 2026, 1:05 PM
Bloss (elbow) struck out four over 2.1 scoreless innings Tuesday in his first rehab start with the Blue Jays' Florida Complex League affiliate, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It's the first game action for Bloss since he underwent UCL surgery last May. Acquired from the Astros in the Yusei Kikuchi trade in July 2024, Bloss will continue to be brought along slowly as he ramps things back up. The right-hander could become an option for the Toronto rotation sometime around midseason.
Andres Gimenez
Andres Gimenez Goes deep twice in defeat
Tue, May 12, 2026, 2:39 AM
Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI in a loss to the Rays on Monday.
Analysis: Gimenez produced all five of Toronto's runs Monday, stroking a three-run homer in the second inning and a two-run shot in the seventh. The pair of long balls ended a 21-game homerless stretch for the veteran infielder, who produced a meager .511 OPS during that power drought. Gimenez has five homers through 38 games this season, and he hasn't reached double-digit long balls in a campaign since 2023, when he swatted 15 home runs over 153 regular-season contests with Cleveland.
Kevin Gausman
Kevin Gausman Lit up early by Rays
Tue, May 12, 2026, 2:28 AM
Gausman (2-3) allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and no walks while striking out five batters over 4.2 innings in a loss to Tampa Bay on Monday.
Analysis: Gausman got off to a poor start, allowing three runs on four hits in the first inning. He yielded another pair of runs in the second and had tossed 100 pitches by the time he exited with one out in the fifth frame. Gausman had completed at least five frames in all eight of his starts coming into Monday, and the six earned runs he allowed against the Rays marked a season high. As a result of the outing, the veteran hurler's ERA jumped from 3.09 to 3.86. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is slated to be a road tilt in Detroit.
Nathan Lukes
Nathan Lukes Nearing rehab assignment
Mon, May 11, 2026, 3:44 PM
Lukes (hamstring) is scheduled to resume running the bases before the end of this week, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Lukes has been ramping up his running progression and could be cleared for a rehab assignment at Single-A Dunedin later this week. He's been sidelined since late April with a left hamstring strain.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Thumb issue resurfaces
Mon, May 11, 2026, 3:40 PM
Scherzer (forearm) will receive a cortisone injection after experiencing a recurrence of right thumb discomfort, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Scherzer battled a nagging thumb issue last season and the injury has reared its ugly head again. The 41-year-old hurler had already been in the midst of a shutdown period after being administered a cortisone shot in his right forearm last Thursday. Scherzer has been shelved since late April, and his absence could be further extended following a second injection.
Yimi Garcia
Yimi Garcia Hits snag during rehab
Mon, May 11, 2026, 3:35 PM
The Blue Jays announced Tuesday that Garcia's (elbow) next rehab outing in the rookie-level Florida Complex League will be delayed for at least a couple of days, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Garcia -- who underwent a cleanup procedure on his elbow in September -- experienced more soreness than expected coming out of his first appearance Thursday, when he retired two of the four batters he faced. The Blue Jays don't believe Garcia is dealing with any sort of serious setback, and the expectation remains that he'll be ready to return to game action later this week. After being shifted to the 60-day injured list earlier this season, Garcia won't be eligible to make his 2026 debut for the Blue Jays until the final week of May.
Yohendrick Pinango
Yohendrick Pinango Rejoining parent club
Mon, May 11, 2026, 2:21 PM
The Blue Jays recalled Pinango from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.
Analysis: After being optioned to Buffalo on Saturday, Pinango will make his way back to Toronto just two days later with Addison Barger (elbow) going back on the injured list with a new health concern. Before his recent demotion, Pinango fared well in his first taste of the big leagues, slashing .423/.444/.462 over 27 plate appearances. The Blue Jays will likely turn to Pinango to fill the strong side of a platoon in the corner outfield while Barger and Nathan Lukes (hamstring) are on the shelf.
Addison Barger
Addison Barger Back to IL with elbow inflammation
Mon, May 11, 2026, 2:19 PM
The Blue Jays placed Barger on the 10-day injured list Monday with right elbow inflammation.
Analysis: Barger just returned to the active roster Friday after missing more than a month with injuries to both ankles. He played only one game for the Blue Jays before heading back on the IL with an elbow injury. The good news is Barger's elbow is fine structurally. He will receive a cortisone injection Monday to combat a joint and be shut down for 3-to-4 days, per Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca. It could be a short stay on the IL if all goes well. Yohendrick Pinango will take Barger's roster spot and should see regular work in the outfield versus righties.
Yariel Rodriguez
Yariel Rodriguez Back in big leagues
Mon, May 11, 2026, 2:19 PM
The Blue Jays selected Rodriguez's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.
Analysis: Toronto dropped Rodriguez from its 40-man roster in December, but he'll make his return to the big club after getting off to a strong start to the season with Buffalo. Over 11 appearances at the Triple-A level spanning 13.1 innings, Rodriguez delivered a 2.63 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB. He'll provide the Blue Jays with a multi-inning option out of the bullpen, but his usage may be largely limited to lower-leverage spots.
Eric Lauer
Eric Lauer Cast off 40-man roster
Mon, May 11, 2026, 2:16 PM
The Blue Jays designated Lauer for assignment Monday.
Analysis: The lefty will give up his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to right-hander Yariel Rodriguez, who was called up from Triple-A Buffalo ahead of Monday's game versus the Rays. The transaction comes after Lauer was lit up for six runs over five innings in a bulk-relief appearance during Sunday's loss to the Angels, bringing the veteran southpaw's ERA to 6.69 over 36.1 innings on the season. With Lauer out of the mix, the Blue Jays will have an opening in the rotation for a fifth starter until Max Scherzer (forearm), Jose Berrios (elbow) or Shane Bieber (elbow) is ready to return from the injured list. Toronto could turn to Spencer Miles to help fill the void, after Miles tossed three scoreless frames as an opener in front of Lauer in Sunday's loss.
Yimi Garcia
Yimi Garcia Starts up rehab assignment
Mon, May 11, 2026, 12:12 PM
Garcia (elbow) made his first rehab appearance Thursday in the rookie-level Florida Complex League, recording two outs while giving up one earned run on two hits.
Analysis: Garcia took the hill for his first game action since July 2, 2025, after he closed last season on Toronto's injured list due to an ankle sprain and then right elbow discomfort caused by scar tissue, which he had cleaned up through surgery in September. The 35-year-old was limited during spring training while rebounding from the procedure, but after facing hitters without issue over the past few weeks, he received clearance to begin a rehab assignment. Garcia could need most of the 30-day rehab window to round into form and knock off rust, so he may not be an option for the Toronto bullpen until late May or early June.
Makes stateside debut
Mon, May 11, 2026, 11:12 AM
Moon made his first appearance for the Blue Jays' Florida Complex League affiliate Friday, walking one and striking out two in two scoreless innings.
Analysis: The 18-year-old right-hander was signed out of a South Korean high school last September for about $1 million. Moon has already shown a mid-90s fastball and good spin on his breaking pitches, and he likely would have been a top-three pick in the KBO draft had he not elected to begin his career in North America.
Ricky Tiedemann
Ricky Tiedemann Still being brought along slowly
Mon, May 11, 2026, 11:02 AM
Tiedemann (elbow) isn't yet facing live hitters, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: While an earlier report said the 23-year-old southpaw has been cleared for mound work in late April, it doesn't look like Tiedemann's throwing program has progressed much past that point yet. He missed all of 2025 after Tommy John surgery and was shut down this spring due to further elbow soreness, so the Blue Jays' caution with him is understandable. Tiedemann likely won't be a factor for the big-league staff until the second half of the season at the earliest.
Dazzling in return from TJ
Mon, May 11, 2026, 10:57 AM
Perry has posted a 1.73 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 40:7 K:BB in 26 innings across six games (five starts) between Single-A Dunedin and High-A Vancouver this season.
Analysis: An unheralded 12th-round pick in the 2022 draft, Perry missed all of 2025 due to Tommy John surgery but has returned with more pop on his fastball, which is now averaging about 94 mph, and a sharper slider. The 22-year-old right-hander still has to prove himself against tougher competition to be viewed as a legitimate prospect, but his numbers to begin 2026 are impressive -- per Mitch Bannon of The Athletic, Perry's 34.4 percent K%-BB% ranks fourth among all minor-league pitchers, with top prospects Seth Hernandez of the Pirates and Kade Anderson of the Mariners being two of the names ahead of him.
Almost unhittable at High-A
Mon, May 11, 2026, 10:48 AM
King has posted a 1.04 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 25:13 K:BB through 17.1 innings over six starts for High-A Vancouver.
Analysis: The youngest player in the Northwest League to begin the season, King won't turn 20 until late July, but he's dominating hitters 4-5 years older than him. While the southpaw's control remains a concern, King's given up just seven hits and zero homers so far at High-A while leaning on his mid-90s fastball and nasty curveball. The Blue Jays are building him up slowly given his age -- he has yet to throw more than four innings in any outing this year -- and he'll need to find a reliable third pitch at some point if he wants to avoid a future in the bullpen, but King remains one of the most promising arms in the system.
Returns from shoulder surgery
Mon, May 11, 2026, 7:59 AM
Arias (shoulder) has gone 2-for-7 with a solo home run and a double in two games for Double-A New Hampshire since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: Arias opened the season on the shelf while recovering from surgery on his right shoulder, but he appears to be back to full health after making his first two starts with New Hampshire in center field rather than as a designated hitter. The 22-year-old was cleared to join the Double-A club after he completed a five-game rehab assignment with Single-A Dunedin.
