Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Making rehab start Friday
Wed, Jul 1, 2026, 11:35 AM
Scherzer (back/side) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Vancouver on Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Scherzer will rejoin the Blue Jays in Seattle on Saturday following the outing and throw a bullpen session Sunday before the team determines his next step. The 41-year-old is expected to require multiple rehab starts, so he will not rejoin the Toronto rotation before the All-Star break. Scherzer has been out since mid-June with back spasms and also needed a cortisone injection for soreness in his left side. He has a 10.23 ERA in six starts for the Blue Jays in 2026.
George Springer
George Springer Out on paternity leave
Wed, Jul 1, 2026, 10:58 AM
The Blue Jays placed Springer on the paternity leave list Wednesday.
Analysis: Springer appeared poised to go on paternity leave this past weekend, but he ended up sticking around with the Blue Jays for a few extra days. He'll now take some time away from the team to welcome the new addition to his family, with MLB rules requiring Springer to remain on paternity leave for between 1-to-3 days. Toronto recalled outfielder Jonatan Clase from Triple-A Buffalo to temporarily take Springer's spot on the active roster.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Returning to starting nine
Wed, Jul 1, 2026, 10:51 AM
Guerrero (back) will start at first base and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: The Blue Jays scratched Guerrero from the lineup prior to Tuesday's 3-0 loss after he experienced back tightness, but the issue seems to have resolved itself after a day off. Given the high price fantasy managers paid for him at the draft table, Guerrero still looks like a must-start player in the majority of leagues despite having been a major disappointment thus far with a .268 average, four home runs, six stolen bases, 34 RBI and 45 runs through 81 games.
Luis Urias
Luis Urias On base three times in loss
Wed, Jul 1, 2026, 9:48 AM
Urias went 2-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Mets.
Analysis: Getting another start at second base and batting seventh, Urias was the only Blue Jay to have much success against Nolan McLean and the New York bullpen in a 3-0 loss. Urias is making a case for more consistent playing time, and over his first seven games for Toronto he's batting .400 (6-for-15) with a double, a homer and more walks (three) than strikeouts (two).
Braydon Fisher
Braydon Fisher Opening Wednesday
Tue, Jun 30, 2026, 9:28 PM
Fisher will serve as Toronto's opener during Wednesday's game against the Mets, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Fisher has been successful while working as an opener this season, striking out seven batters and walking four while tossing 5.2 scoreless innings across his five starts. He'll now draw his sixth opening assignment in what's expected to be a bullpen game for the Jays.
Kevin Gausman
Kevin Gausman Posts quality start in loss
Tue, Jun 30, 2026, 9:08 PM
Gausman (4-7) took the loss against the Mets on Tuesday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over six innings.
Analysis: Gausman suffered his third straight loss despite giving up just one run in the fifth inning. He generated 14 whiffs on 96 pitches but also surrendered 11 hard-hit balls, seven of which resulted in outs. It was still a much-needed rebound for the veteran, who had yielded 13 earned runs over his previous two starts. He'll take a 4.19 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 100:24 K:BB across 101 innings this season into a road matchup with the Giants next week.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Likely needs rehab assignment
Tue, Jun 30, 2026, 8:51 PM
Manager John Schneider said Tuesday that Scherzer (back/side) will likely make a few rehab starts at Triple-A Buffalo to ramp up before returning from the injured list, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: The Blue Jays are encouraged by the progress Scherzer has made since receiving a cortisone injection in his left side. However, his chances of returning before the All-Star break have taken a hit now that the team seemingly plans on having the veteran righty make multiple starts in the minors. A clearer timeline for his return to the big-league staff will likely emerge as he progresses through his rehab assignment.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Scratched Tuesday
Tue, Jun 30, 2026, 4:35 PM
Guerrero was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets due to back tightness.
Analysis: The star first baseman departed Friday's contest against the Cubs due to a back issue, but he didn't miss any additional time until being scratched from Tuesday's starting nine. Guerrero should be considered day-to-day as he continues to be evaluated. Sean Keys will shift to first base for Toronto.
Spencer Miles
Spencer Miles Could be primary pitcher Wednesday
Tue, Jun 30, 2026, 3:28 PM
Miles could serve as the Blue Jays' primary pitcher in Wednesday's game against the Mets, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Patrick Corbin had previously been listed as the scheduled starter, but he's been moved to the bullpen. Miles' last six appearances have come as a traditional reliever, but he's made a handful of traditional starts or bulk relief appearance this season and could get stretched back out. The 25-year-old holds a 3.00 ERA and 50:16 K:BB over 51 innings for Toronto this season.
Patrick Corbin
Patrick Corbin Moved to bullpen
Tue, Jun 30, 2026, 3:24 PM
Corbin has been moved to the Blue Jays' bullpen, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Corbin had previously been listed as Toronto's starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Mets. While he could still pitch that day, if he does it will be out of the bullpen. Corbin holds an 8.69 ERA and 16:10 K:BB over 19.2 innings covering five starts in June.
Kazuma Okamoto
Kazuma Okamoto Exiting starting lineup
Tue, Jun 30, 2026, 2:23 PM
Okamoto is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Okamoto will receive a day off on his 30th birthday. The Blue Jays will roll with rookie Sean Keys at third base and in the cleanup spot in Okamoto's stead.
Simeon Woods Richardson
Simeon Woods Richardson Remaining in organization
Tue, Jun 30, 2026, 1:08 PM
The Blue Jays outrighted Woods Richardson to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Woods Richardson was acquired via trade earlier this month after the Twins had designated him for assignment, and he lasted only three-plus weeks before being DFA'd again. The 25-year-old holds a 6.40 ERA and 31:32 K:BB over 57.2 innings between the Twins and Blue Jays this season and will likely join the rotation at Buffalo.
Louis Varland
Louis Varland Remains flawless in save situations
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 9:04 PM
Varland secured the save Monday against the Mets, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out two.
Analysis: The Mets made Varland work, getting the potential tying and go-ahead runs aboard, but Varland got Ronny Mauricio to strike out to seal the win for Toronto. The hard-throwing right-hander has been a lights-out closer for the Blue Jays since claiming the gig from Jeff Hoffman earlier this year, going a pristine 17-for-17 in save situations. Through 46 innings, Varland boasts a 0.98 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 64:13 K:BB.
Trey Yesavage
Trey Yesavage Continues to limit hits
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 8:59 PM
Yesavage (4-3) earned the win Monday against the Mets, allowing one run on three hits and no walks in 6.2 innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Yesavage had a hard time finding the zone, matching a season low in punchouts while tossing just 57 of his 94 offerings for strikes, but he hung in there for a strong outing overall. The 22-year-old right-hander remains incredibly difficult to hit, giving up fewer than six knocks in each of his first 12 starts for a .185 opponent batting average. Yesavage is slated to finish a two-start week this weekend in Seattle, where he'll bring a 3.34 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 61:30 K:BB over 67.1 innings.
Rehabbing in FCL
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 5:29 PM
Nimmala has gone 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI through two rehab games in the rookie-level Florida Complex League after Double-A New Hampshire placed him on its 7-day injured list May 30 due to a hamstring strain, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: After being promoted to New Hampshire on May 3, Nimmala slashed .308/.375/.369 with no home runs and three stolen bases across 72 plate appearances in 18 games before being forced to the shelf. He appears poised to return to the Double-A lineup before the All-Star break, as he's since been able to begin stockpiling at-bats in the FCL. The 20-year-old infielder is regarded as one of the top prospects in the Toronto system and could reach the big leagues as soon as 2027.
Andres Gimenez
Andres Gimenez Heading to bench vs. lefty
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 5:22 PM
Gimenez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Lefty Sean Manaea is starting for the Mets, so the Blue Jays will send Gimenez and fellow left-handed batter Daulton Varsho to the bench in order to add a pair of righty hitters to the mix. Luis Urias will enter the lineup at second base and will bat seventh while Ernie Clement shifts over from the keystone to cover shortstop in place of Gimenez.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Idle with lefty on mound
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 5:21 PM
Varsho is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Lefty Sean Manaea is starting for the Mets, so the Blue Jays will send Varsho and fellow left-handed batter Andres Gimenez to the bench in order to add a pair of righty hitters to the mix. Myles Straw will replace Varsho in center field and will bat ninth.
Alejandro Kirk
Alejandro Kirk Taking seat Monday
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 5:19 PM
Kirk is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Kirk will be given a breather after he started at catcher in the final two games of the Blue Jays' weekend series versus the Rangers. Brandon Valenzuela will step in behind the plate Monday and form a battery with starting pitcher Trey Yesavage.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Nearing return to mound
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 5:17 PM
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Scherzer (back/side) played catch Monday and could throw a bullpen session as soon as Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Scherzer threw a bullpen session as recently as last Monday, but the Blue Jays briefly shut him down a few days later after he experienced left side discomfort that was seemingly related to the back spasms that forced him to the injured list June 17. The right-hander received a cortisone shot Friday and has responded well to the injection, so he'll start the process of getting stretched back out. Scherzer could have a realistic shot at returning to the Toronto rotation at some point next week if he avoids any further setbacks while building up.
Yimi Garcia
Yimi Garcia Resumes playing catch
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 5:11 PM
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Garcia (elbow/neck/biceps) has resumed playing catch, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Garcia has been on the shelf all season after requiring surgery last September to remove scar tissue around his right elbow, but biceps and neck nerve symptoms were cited as the reason behind the Blue Jays' decision to pull him off his rehab assignment last week. The right-hander appears to have responded well to several days of rest, prompting the Blue Jays to clear him to begin throwing again. Given that he's dealt with multiple setbacks this season -- Garcia was also pulled off a rehab assignment in May due to elbow soreness -- he could be built up slowly before the Blue Jays clear him to report back to a minor-league affiliate.
