Tanner Andrews Assigned to Triple-A
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 1:26 PM
The Blue Jays assigned Andrews to Triple-A Buffalo after he cleared waivers Sunday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Andrews was DFA'd by the Blue Jays on Thursday in order to make room on the 40-man roster for Chad Dallas. Andrews went unclaimed off waivers and will return to Buffalo, where he has a 1.29 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, five saves and a 23:15 K:BB over 21 innings this season.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer On track to start Wednesday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 12:42 PM
Scherzer (forearm) threw a bullpen session Sunday and expressed confidence that he would be available to pitch against the Phillies on Wednesday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: "[I] checked a lot of boxes, and recovered well...I can tell you I'm good. Yeah, I'll be able to go Wednesday," Scherzer noted after Sunday's bullpen session. He landed on the 15-day injured list in late April due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation and was also dealing with a right thumb issue during his recovery. The Blue Jays are also expecting Dylan Cease (hamstring) to return from the IL in the coming week, giving the team a much-needed boost in the rotation.
Nathan Lukes
Nathan Lukes Sitting Sunday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 9:49 AM
Lukes is not in Toronto's starting lineup against Baltimore on Sunday.
Analysis: Lukes will take a seat after going 1-for-8 across the first two games of the series. Jesus Sanchez, Myles Straw and Yohendrick Pinango will man the outfield from left to right for the Blue Jays for Sunday's series finale.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Sitting again Sunday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 9:48 AM
Varsho (wrist) is not in the Blue Jays' starting lineup against the Orioles on Sunday.
Analysis: Varsho will be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game while tending to a left wrist injury that popped up in Friday's series opener. The Blue Jays will start Jesus Sanchez, Myles Straw and Yohendrick Pinango in the outfield from left to right for Sunday's series finale.
Spencer Miles
Spencer Miles Earns win in bulk relief
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 6:18 PM
Miles (3-1) earned the win in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Orioles, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 4.1 innings.
Analysis: Miles entered in the second inning and allowed a homer to the second batter he faced but was able to settle in for the win, throwing 48 of 73 pitches for strikes and recording five strikeouts despite generating only five whiffs. It was a nice rebound after the 25-year-old surrendered six runs in a starting role Sunday, and he has now yielded two earned runs or fewer while working at least three frames in five of his past six outings. He owns a 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 39:13 K:BB across 40.2 innings this season, including two starts and 15 relief appearances.
Louis Varland
Louis Varland Secures 10th save
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 6:08 PM
Varland tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Orioles. He did not record a strikeout.
Analysis: Varland was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning and did so on just eight pitches. The 28-year-old is now a perfect 10-for-10 in save chances this season and has gone 17 straight appearances without allowing an earned run. He owns a 0.27 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB across 33.1 innings, with the lone knock on his fantasy value being that he's occasionally been deployed before the ninth frame in other high-leverage situations.
Ernie Clement
Ernie Clement Powers offense in win
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 5:59 PM
Clement went 2-for-4 with a triple, a three-run home run and three total runs scored in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Orioles.
Analysis: Clement gave the Blue Jays a lead they wouldn't relinquish with a three-run blast in the third inning. The 30-year-old saw his seven-game hitting streak come to an end Friday, but he has still opened June by going 8-for-21 through five contests. For the season, he's slashing .306/.327/.464 with six homers, 25 RBI, 29 runs scored and two steals across 257 plate appearances.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Absent from lineup
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 11:05 AM
Varsho (wrist) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Baltimore.
Analysis: Varsho was forced to make an early exit from Friday's contest due to left wrist inflammation, and the Blue Jays will give him a chance to rest Saturday while Myles Straw starts in center field.
George Springer
George Springer Finding rhythm at plate
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 9:34 AM
Springer went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Friday's loss to the Orioles.
Analysis: The veteran slugger held a paltry .186 batting average on May 16, but since then Springer has begun to find a groove. Over his last 16 games, he's slashing .258/.319/.470 with five doubles, three homers, two steals, six RBI and eight runs while still consistently hitting leadoff for the Blue Jays.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Next start could come in majors
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 9:27 AM
Scherzer (forearm) gave up three runs on five hits and a walk over 3.2 innings for Triple-A Buffalo on Friday. He struck out five.
Analysis: While the results weren't great, the 41-year-old right-hander topped out at 95.7 mph with his fastball while throwing 73 pitches (44 strikes), per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. Scherzer has dealt with a litany of healthy issues in the early part of the season, including right forearm tightness, but he's closing in on returning to the Blue Jays' rotation for the first time April 24. It's not yet clear whether the organization will activate him from the IL next week for a home series against the Phillies, or have Scherzer make one more rehab start.
Spencer Miles
Spencer Miles Set for bulk-relief duty
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 11:15 PM
Miles will work as a bulk reliever in Saturday's game against the Orioles, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Miles gave up six earned runs in just three innings while working as a traditional starter Sunday, so the Blue Jays will move him back into a bulk-relief role, working behind Braydon Fisher. Miles owns a 2.37 ERA and 1.05 WHIP as a reliever this season.
Braydon Fisher
Braydon Fisher Working as opener Saturday
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 11:07 PM
Fisher will open Saturday's game against the Orioles, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Fisher has been one of the Blue Jays' most effective high-leverage arms this season, posting a 2.62 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 34.1 innings, but the team will move him up to the first inning Saturday for his fourth opening assignment of the season. He'll pitch an inning or so before handing the ball to Spencer Miles for bulk-relief work.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Day-to-day with wrist inflammation
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 10:05 PM
Manager John Schneider said after Friday's game against Baltimore that Varsho has been dealing with left wrist inflammation over the last couple of days, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Varsho had to leave Friday's contest after aggravating his wrist during his first plate appearance. X-rays came back negative after the game, so he isn't dealing with anything severe, but he could sit out a game or two to give his wrist a chance to recover properly.
Brandon Valenzuela
Brandon Valenzuela Goes deep against Baltimore
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 9:44 PM
Valenzuela went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's 13-3 loss to the Orioles.
Analysis: Valanzuela handed the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead after taking Brandon Young deep to right-center field for a 417-foot, two-run home run. Valanzuela has gone deep in back-to-back games and is up to six homers on the season. He has stepped up as the Blue Jays' primary catcher ahead of Tyler Heineman, but Valenzuela could soon see his workload drop dramatically, as Alejandro Kirk (thumb) is trending toward returning from the 60-day IL early next week, per Mitch Bannon of The Athletic.
Trey Yesavage
Trey Yesavage Falls apart in sixth frame
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 9:39 PM
Yesavage (2-3) took the loss against the Orioles on Friday, allowing six runs on fits hits and two walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings.
Analysis: Yesavage was excellent through the first five innings of Friday's start outside of a solo home run that he yielded to Adley Rutschman in the first. Yesavage was brought back out for the sixth, but he did not come away with the quality start after giving up five runs in the frame, with his night coming to an end after giving up a two-run homer to Coby Mayo. Yesavage has allowed at least five runs in two of his last three starts and sits at a 3.16 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 44:19 K:BB across 42.2 innings this season. His next start is slated for next weekend at home against the Yankees.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Exits early Friday
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 7:12 PM
Varsho was removed from Friday's game against the Orioles with left wrist discomfort, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: The severity of Varsho's injury is still unknown, but the Jays should provide more information in the near future. If the 29-year-old ends up needing to miss time, Myles Straw and Yohendrick Pinango would be the leading candidates to pick up starts in the outfield.
Dylan Cease
Dylan Cease Likely to rejoin rotation next week
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 4:03 PM
Manager John Schneider said Friday that Cease (hamstring) is "very likely" to rejoin the Blue Jays' rotation next week, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Cease threw 75 pitches across four innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday and came out of it feeling good. He appears likely to make the start for Toronto on Tuesday at home against the Phillies. The right-hander last pitched for the Blue Jays on May 24 and owns a 3.05 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 92:26 K:BB across 62 innings this season.
Chad Dallas
Chad Dallas Heads back to Triple-A
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 2:21 PM
The Blue Jays optioned Dallas to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.
Analysis: With Toronto's acquisition of Simeon Woods Richardson from the Twins earlier this week, Dallas loses his spot on the 26-man roster after he picked up the win in relief during his major-league debut Thursday against Atlanta. Dallas yielded just one run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts across 3.2 innings. He's operated mainly as a starter with Buffalo this season.
Myles Straw
Myles Straw Drives in three in Thursday's start
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 8:48 AM
Straw went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in Thursday's win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Getting the start in center field in place of Daulton Varsho against southpaw Chris Sale, Straw produced a two-run single in the third inning before playing a role in the Blue Jays' four-run outburst in the top of the ninth. It was the veteran outfielder's first multi-hit performance since May 6, snapping a 1-for-23 skid that had dragged his OPS on the season down from .812 to .647. Straw remains an important bench piece for Toronto in a predominantly lefty-swinging outfield, but playing time will be even harder to come by once Addison Barger (elbow) is activated from the IL.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Three-hit effort in win
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 8:41 AM
Guerrero went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Thursday's win over Atlanta.
Analysis: His current homer drought stands at 15 games, but Guerrero might be on the verge of a summer rampage. The star first baseman has doubles in four of the last six games, and over his last 10 contests he's slashing .389/.476/.500 with seven runs, albeit with just two RBI.
