Lenyn Sosa
Lenyn Sosa Shipped out to Toronto
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 12:19 PM
The Blue Jays acquired Sosa from the White Sox on Monday in exchange for outfielder Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Analysis: After leading the White Sox with 22 home runs during his age-25 season in 2025, Sosa had somewhat surprisingly fallen out of favor through the first two and a half weeks of the 2026 campaign. He had started in just eight of the White Sox's first 16 games, slashing .212/.212/.303 across 33 plate appearances. Though he'll be joining a Blue Jays squad with more established hitting talent, Sosa could capture a more meaningful role in the short term while the club navigates some injuries. Toronto may give him a look as its primary designated hitter in place of George Springer, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a fractured left big toe.
Shane Bieber
Shane Bieber Moves to 60-day IL
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 12:12 PM
The Blue Jays transferred Bieber (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.
Analysis: Bieber's timeline for a 2026 debut remains murky, as the Blue Jays have been bringing him along slowly, but a move to the 60-day IL ensures that he'll remain on the shelf through at least late May. The veteran right-hander wasn't cleared to throw off a mound in spring training after experiencing inflammation in his surgically repaired elbow, but this past weekend, he completed his third bullpen session since the start of the season, per MLB.com. He could soon graduate to facing hitters, but Bieber still looks to be at least a couple weeks away from beginning a minor-league rehab assignment.
Louis Varland
Louis Varland Impressive start to season
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 10:54 AM
Varland struck out the side in a perfect seventh inning during Sunday's loss to the Twins.
Analysis: It wasn't a particularly high-leverage situation as the Blue Jays were down 8-1 when he took the mound, but Varland still fired 11 of 16 pitches for strikes in another impressive outing. Through eight appearances and nine innings to begin the year, the right-hander has a 0.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB with two holds.
Eloy Jimenez
Eloy Jimenez Two hits in Toronto debut
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 10:51 AM
Jimenez went 2-for-4 with two strikeouts in Sunday's loss to the Twins.
Analysis: Getting the start at DH in place of George Springer (toe) and batting seventh, Jimenez laced singles to left field in the fourth and eighth innings. The 29-year-old hasn't provided meaningful production in a big-league lineup since 2023, and it's not yet clear if the Jays view Jimenez as an option to handle a significant role in Springer's absence, or if he'll be a convenient player to waive once Addison Barger (ankles) gets healthy.
Ernie Clement
Ernie Clement Three knocks in Sunday's loss
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 10:46 AM
Clement went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Twins.
Analysis: Moved up to the leadoff spot for the first time this season with George Springer (toe) out of action, Clement did an impressive job setting the table and scored Toronto's only two runs on the afternoon. The 30-year-old second baseman is slashing .311/.323/.393 through 15 games with five doubles, four RBI, five runs and a steal, and he could get a long look at the top of the order while Springer is sidelined.
Yimi Garcia
Yimi Garcia Closing in on rehab stint
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 10:41 AM
Garcia (elbow) threw another side session Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports, and per MLB.com the veteran reliever is close to beginning a rehab assignment.
Analysis: Garcia hasn't pitched in a big-league game since July 2 of last season, eventually undergoing surgery on his elbow in September to clean up scar tissue from a prior procedure. He's in the final stages of his recovery, and the Blue Jays remain optimistic the right-hander will be able to rejoin the bullpen by the end of April. Once he's activated and shakes off the rust, Garcia will provide another high-leverage bridge to closer Jeff Hoffman.
Addison Barger
Addison Barger Out of walking boot
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 10:34 AM
Barger (ankles) was no longer wearing a walking boot this weekend, and the Blue Jays remain optimistic he'll only need a minimum stay on the 10-day injured list, per MLB.com.
Analysis: The right fielder managed to sprain both his ankles, the left more seriously, while attempting to beat out a groundball and landing awkwardly on first base, and his IL stint was backdated to April 6. Barger's had a very slow start to the season at the plate, going 1-for-19 with his only hit being a double, but the Jays could use him back as quickly as possible with George Springer (toe) having suffered his own, more serious injury Saturday. Barger could be eased into the lineup at DH as a result once he's activated.
Josh Fleming
Josh Fleming Inks minor-league deal with Toronto
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 9:00 PM
Fleming and the Blue Jays agreed on a minor-league deal Sunday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Fleming elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Tuesday, but he has now returned to Toronto's organization. The southpaw tossed five scoreless innings with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, allowing four hits while striking out four in the team's 3-2 loss to Syracuse.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Implodes early in loss
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 7:22 PM
Scherzer (1-2) took the loss against the Twins on Sunday, allowing eight runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 2.1 innings.
Analysis: Scherzer opened with a perfect first inning before allowing eight runs while recording just four more outs. His velocity appeared normal, so it doesn't seem tied to the forearm tendinitis the 41-year-old dealt with in his previous outing, but he generated only four whiffs on 68 pitches and surrendered two homers. He'll take an ugly 9.58 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 9:4 K:BB across 10.1 innings into a road matchup with the Diamondbacks next weekend.
Tyler Heineman
Tyler Heineman Nursing back spasms
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 11:26 AM
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Sunday that Heineman has been contending with back spasms lately, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The back issue explains why Heineman will be held out of the lineup for a third straight game Sunday against the Twins, paving the way for Brandon Valenzuela to make another start behind the dish. While Alejandro Kirk (thumb) is facing a long-term absence, Heineman could end up taking on the bulk of the starts at catcher once he overcomes his back injury.
Eloy Jimenez
Eloy Jimenez Called up, starting at DH on Sunday
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 10:31 AM
The Blue Jays selected Jimenez's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday. He'll serve as the Blue Jays' designated hitter and No. 7 batter in the Blue Jays' series finale versus the Twins.
Analysis: Back in the majors for the first time since 2024, Jimenez will immediately slot in as the Blue Jays' DH in place of George Springer, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left big toe fracture. Jimenez won't necessarily settle into a full-time role with Toronto, however, as manager John Schneider could rotate a number of players in at the DH spot during Springer's absence. After slugging 31 home runs in his first big-league season in 2019, the 29-year-old Jimenez struggled with injuries and saw a steep decline in his power production over the last several years. He's been able to stay healthy so far in 2026 and produced a .257/.372/.371 slash line (112 wRC+) over 43 plate appearances with Buffalo prior to his call-up.
George Springer
George Springer Moves to IL
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 10:25 AM
The Blue Jays placed Springer (toe) on the 10-day injured list Sunday.
Analysis: Springer suffered a fractured left big toe in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Twins, and though the nature of the injury would imply a longer-term absence, manager John Schneider indicated that the four-time All-Star could return to action in close to the minimum amount of time, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. The Blue Jays called up Eloy Jimenez from Triple-A Buffalo to take Springer's spot on the 26-man active roster, and Jimenez will enter the lineup right away at designated hitter in Sunday's series finale. Along with Jimenez, Toronto could opt to rotate a number of players at the DH spot while Springer is shelved.
Jesus Sanchez
Jesus Sanchez Hits late home run
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 5:08 PM
Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Saturday's 7-4 loss the Twins.
Analysis: Sanchez made the score look more respectable after belting a two-run homer off Cole Sands in the ninth inning. It was Sanchez's first home run since March 29 against the Athletics, and the long shot extended his hitting streak to four games. Over that four-game span, he has gone 4-for-16 (.250) with three doubles, four RBI and two runs scored.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Launces another homer
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 4:46 PM
Varsho went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during the Blue Jays' 7-4 loss to the Twins on Saturday.
Analysis: Varsho put the Blue Jays on the board early with a two-run homer off Joe Ryan in the first inning, and those were Toronto's only runs until the ninth. Varsho has gone long in back-to-back games and is slashing .213/.302/.404 with one steal and five RBI to open the 2026 regular season.
Eric Lauer
Eric Lauer Rocked in third inning
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 4:38 PM
Lauer (1-2) took the loss against the Twins on Saturday, allowing seven runs on five hits and five walks while striking out three across 5.1 innings.
Analysis: All seven of the runs Lauer gave up during Saturday's contest came in the third inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Brooks Lee and a three-run long shot from Trevor Larnach. Lauer ended up staying in the ball game before being pulled in the sixth in order to give the Blue Jays' bullpen some rest, and he ended up tossing 95 pitches (53 strikes) while generating only five whiffs and two groundouts. Lauer has struggled to open the 2026 regular season, and through three starts he has yielded 11 earned runs on 11 hits and nine walks while striking out 12 over 12.2 frames. He's slated to start next weekend on the road against the Diamondbacks.
George Springer
George Springer Suffers toe fracture
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 3:58 PM
Springer was removed from Saturday's game against the Twins with a left big toe fracture.
Analysis: Springer fouled a ball off his foot in the third inning before being removed in the sixth, and imaging determined afterward that he suffered a fracture. It's unclear how long the 36-year-old outfielder will be out, but a trip to the injured list is likely.
Kazuma Okamoto
Kazuma Okamoto Riding pine Saturday
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 11:00 AM
Okamoto isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota.
Analysis: Okamoto will get a chance to regroup Saturday after going 0-for-8 with a strikeout over his last two games. Ernie Clement will slide over to third base as a result, opening up the keystone for Davis Schneider.
Braydon Fisher
Braydon Fisher Continues strong start to season
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 9:22 AM
Fisher struck out four over two scoreless innings of relief in Friday's win over the Twins. He didn't allow a hit or walk but did hit a batter with a pitch.
Analysis: It was effectively mop-up duty, as Fisher worked the final two frames of a 10-4 victory, but it continued an impressive stretch for the 25-year-old righty to begin the season. Through six appearances and 8.1 innings, Fisher boasts a 0.00 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB with two holds, but he remains behind Jeff Hoffman, Tyler Rogers and Louis Varland in the pecking order for high-leverage work from the right side.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Collects three hits Friday
Fri, Apr 10, 2026, 10:12 PM
Guerrero went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, one steal and an RBI during Toronto's 10-4 win over Minnesota on Friday.
Analysis: Guerrero notched his first steal of the season in the seventh inning before being brought home on an RBI single by Davis Schneider, and the former drove in a run of his own on a double in the eighth. Guerrero has just one home run through 13 regular-season games, but he currently boasts a .429 OBP that would be a career high if maintained.
Davis Schneider
Davis Schneider Makes case for more playing time
Fri, Apr 10, 2026, 10:09 PM
Schneider went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored during the Blue Jays' 10-4 win over the Twins on Friday.
Analysis: Schneider contributed to Toronto's five-run fourth inning with an RBI double, and he expanded the Blue Jays lead in the seventh with a single to left field that brought Vladimir Guerrero home. Schneider has served in a utility role to open the season, and while the infield is fairly solidified, more strong games like Friday's could lead to more playing time in the outfield, especially for as long as Addison Barger (ankles) is on the IL.
