Cody Ponce
Cody Ponce Carted off field Monday
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 6:53 PM
Ponce was carted off the field during the third inning of Monday's game against the Rockies due to an apparent right leg injury, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Ponce collapsed to the ground in visible pain after injuring his right leg while attempting to field a dribbling ground ball. The injury was severe enough for him that the medical cart was brought out, and he'll end his outing having allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out three across 2.1 innings. Monday was Ponce's first major-league start since 2021 after spending three years in Japan, and he earned a spot in the Blue Jays' rotation due to the trio of Shane Bieber (elbow), Trey Yesavage (shoulder) and Jose Berrios (elbow) all opening the season on the 15-day injured list. The Blue Jays should have an update on Ponce's injury once he undergoes more tests on his leg.
Shane Bieber
Shane Bieber Will throw off mound Saturday
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 3:51 PM
Bieber (elbow) will throw off a mound Saturday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It will mark the first time Bieber will throw off a mound this season, as the right-hander had been limited to flat-ground work during spring training. Bieber obviously has several more hurdles to clear before he's making starts for the Blue Jays, as he needs to build his arm up and will likely require multiple rehab starts. There's a chance Bieber will be ready to pitch for Toronto sometime in May.
Trey Yesavage
Trey Yesavage Will throw sim game Friday
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 3:32 PM
Yesavage (shoulder) will throw a simulated game Friday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Yesavage will throw 45 pitches in the simulated game, the latest step in his recovery from a right shoulder impingement. After not appearing in any spring training games, Yesavage is still building his arm up. He'll likely need multiple starts on a rehab assignment before he's ready to join the Blue Jays' rotation.
Yimi Garcia
Yimi Garcia Set for bullpen session Tuesday
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 3:29 PM
Garcia (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Garcia needed a cleanup procedure on his elbow late last season, which caused him to miss Toronto's playoff run, and he just started throwing off a mound again two weeks ago. Still being built up, Garcia could head out on a rehab assignment in the coming weeks.
Jesus Sanchez
Jesus Sanchez Belts first homer as Jay
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 11:20 AM
Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the A's.
Analysis: The 28-year-old outfielder crushed a Luis Morales fastball to straightaway center field in the third inning, giving Sanchez his first long ball in a Toronto uniform. Sanchez has rotated starts with Nathan Lukes and Davis Schneider through the first three games of the season, but the former Marlin could end up as the preferred option against right-handed pitching, especially if the Blue Jays coaching staff can unlock more power from his bat. Sanchez has hit between 13 and 18 homers in each of the last five seasons, but his elite bat speed has teased more upside in that department.
George Springer
George Springer Launches first homer of 2026
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 11:14 AM
Springer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the A's.
Analysis: The veteran slugger took Luis Morales deep to lead off the game for the Jays. It was Springer's first long ball of the season, and while he's gone 2-for-14 with four strikeouts through three games, both hits have gone for extra bases as he works to shake off a sluggish spring.
Dylan Cease
Dylan Cease Flashes more diverse pitch mix
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 11:08 AM
Cease has more confidence in his changeup this season and seems committed to broadening his arsenal, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The right-hander has been essentially a two-pitch pitcher during his big-league career, throwing his two-seam fastball and slider over 40 percent of the time last season with the Padres, but in his first outing for the Blue Jays on Saturday, neither pitch reached that mark while his knuckle curve, two-seamer, changeup and sweeper all sat with usage rates between 7.8 percent and 10.0 percent. The changeup was especially impressive, as he's firmed it up a bit to give it more velocity and arm-side run but less vertical drop. The result was eight whiffs on eight changeups that averaged 83.7 mph, as batters sold out to try and meet his usual high-90s heat. "I'm going to keep fine-tuning it," Cease said. "Trying to find a little more consistency with command, but I like where it's at." With batters having more to think about than ever before when facing Cease, he struck out 12 batters in 5.1 innings -- setting a franchise record for Ks in a Blue Jays debut in the process.
Eric Lauer
Eric Lauer Strikes out nine in win
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 3:35 PM
Lauer (1-0) earned the win against the Athletics on Sunday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
Analysis: Lauer allowed a two-run homer in the fifth inning but was otherwise fantastic, generating a whopping 17 whiffs on 87 pitches. The 30-year-old got the nod with Trey Yesavage (shoulder) opening the year on the injured list and certainly made a strong case to stick in the rotation for now. He posted a 3.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 102:26 K:BB across 104.2 regular-season innings in 2025 and tentatively lines up for a road matchup against the White Sox next weekend.
Jeff Hoffman
Jeff Hoffman Secures first save
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 3:28 PM
Hoffman earned the save in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Athletics, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.
Analysis: Hoffman was called upon to protect a three-run lead in the ninth and threw nine of 10 pitches for strikes to slam the door. It was a nice rebound after the 33-year-old blew his first save chance Friday, and he's racked up six punchouts through two appearances this season.
Kazuma Okamoto
Kazuma Okamoto Launches first major-league homer
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 3:22 PM
Okamoto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Athletics.
Analysis: Okamoto put the Blue Jays up 4-0 with a 420-foot blast off Luis Morales in the fourth inning. The 29-year-old has carried a successful spring into his first major-league regular season, hitting safely in each of his first three contests. He totaled 248 homers across 11 seasons in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball and should be a key power bat in the heart of Toronto's lineup moving forward.
Andres Gimenez
Andres Gimenez Stays hot in Saturday's win
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 1:05 PM
Gimenez went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's extra-innings win over the A's.
Analysis: The 27-year-old has come flying out of the gate this season, going 6-for-8 in two games with a triple, a steal and four RBI. Gimenez is shifting over to shortstop on a full-time basis this season after mainly playing second base during his big-league career so far -- the last time he saw more action at the six was in 2021 with Cleveland. Gimenez won't stay that hot at the plate for long, but he should have no trouble improving on last year's .598 OPS if he stays healthy.
Spencer Miles
Spencer Miles Collects win in MLB debut
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 1:01 PM
Miles (1-0) picked up the win Saturday against the A's, walking one and striking out one in a scoreless 11th inning.
Analysis: The Rule 5 pick was thrown right into a high-leverage situation in his big-league debut, and Miles rose to the challenge by stranding the phantom runner before the Blue Jays walked it off in the bottom of the frame. Miles was sitting 97-98 mph with both his two-seam and four-seam fastballs while mixing in a slider that produced his first career strikeout against Max Muncy, and while the 25-year-old right-hander had never pitched above Single-A prior to Saturday, his arsenal could quickly make him an asset in the Toronto bullpen if his control and command hold up.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho On base four times Saturday
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 12:56 PM
Varsho went 2-for-4 with two walks, a run scored and an RBI in Saturday's extra-innings win over the A's.
Analysis: The center fielder went 0-for-4 in the Blue Jays' opener, but Varsho had much more success Saturday even with lefty Jeffrey Springs on the bump for the A's. Varsho launched 20 homers in only 71 regular-season games in 2025, and if he can stay healthy this season he could be headed for career-best power numbers.
Nathan Lukes
Nathan Lukes Cedes LF to Sanchez on Sunday
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 11:15 AM
Lukes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
Analysis: Toronto has now used three different starters in left field and in the No. 2 spot in the batting order in each of its first three games, with Jesus Sanchez receiving the nod Sunday after Lukes and Davis Schneider handled those duties Friday and Saturday, respectively. Schneider should rank as the preferred option in left field when the Blue Jays face left-handed pitching, but Lukes and Sanchez may be deployed in more of a timeshare at the position against righties. Unless one of the two emerges as manager John Schneider's preferred left fielder, the timeshare arrangement will suppress the fantasy value of both Lukes and Sanchez.
Alejandro Kirk
Alejandro Kirk Receiving day off
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 11:10 AM
Kirk is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
Analysis: He'll be getting a breather after starting behind the plate in the Blue Jays' first two games of the season while going 1-for-9 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run. Tyler Heineman will step in for Kirk behind the dish, forming a battery with starting pitcher Eric Lauer.
Dylan Cease
Dylan Cease Fans 12 in no-decision Saturday
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 7:16 PM
Cease didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 8-7 extra-innings win over the A's, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out 12.
Analysis: Signed to a seven-year, $210 million contract this winter, Cease looked to be worth every penny in his Toronto debut as he fired 61 of 90 pitches for strikes and blanked the A's for five frames before running out of gas in the sixth. It's the most strikeouts in franchise history for a pitcher making his Blue Jays debut, breaking the record of 11 set by David Price in August of 2015. Cease will have plenty of motivation to stay locked in when he takes the mound for his next start, which lines up to come on the road next week against the White Sox -- the team he made his MLB debut with in 2019.
Mason Fluharty
Mason Fluharty X-rays negative on right knee
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 6:07 PM
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters that Fluharty suffered a right knee contusion during Saturday's 8-7 extra-innings win over the Athletics, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Fluharty was struck by two comebackers during the seventh inning of Saturday's game, with the second one catching him on the inside of his knee. The good news is that X-rays came back negative, and the injury might not prevent him from being available for Sunday's series finale. Fluharty will be a key piece in the Blue Jays' bullpen as the team looks to get back to the World Series. Over his last 18 outings of the 2025 regular season, Fluharty posted a 2.41 ERA and 0.86 WHIP across 18.2 innings.
Ernie Clement
Ernie Clement Bangs out two doubles Friday
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 10:42 AM
Clement went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in Friday's win over the A's.
Analysis: It was a strong start to the season for the 30-year-old infielder, who's expected to be Toronto's everyday second baseman now that Andres Gimenez is sliding over to shortstop to replace Bo Bichette. Clement posted a respectable .277/.313/.398 slash line in 2025 with nine homers and six steals in 157 regular-season games while bouncing all around the infield, but having a stable defensive home could allow him to find another level at the plate.
Addison Barger
Addison Barger Idle vs. southpaw
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 10:15 AM
Barger is not in the Blue Jays' starting lineup against the Athletics on Saturday.
Analysis: With left-hander Jeffrey Springs taking the mound for the Athletics on Saturday, Barger will open the contest in the dugout while the Blue Jays go with Davis Schneider, Daulton Varsho and Myles Straw in the outfield from left to right. Barger went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Opening Day on Friday.
Kazuma Okamoto
Kazuma Okamoto Game-winning run in MLB debut
Fri, Mar 27, 2026, 10:11 PM
Okamoto went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored during the Blue Jays' 3-2 win over the Athletics on Friday.
Analysis: Okamoto took his first major-league base in the fifth inning with a walk before being brought home on a two-run triple by Andres Gimenez. Okamoto's single in the seventh was the first hit of his MLB career, and after getting on base again in the ninth, he crossed home as the game-winning run on a single from Gimenez. It was a promising start for Okamoto, who joined the Blue Jays on a four-year, $60 million contract in the offseason after a successful stint in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball.
