Connor Seabold
Connor Seabold Loses roster spot
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 4:16 PM
The Blue Jays designated Seabold for assignment Wednesday.
Analysis: Following his acquisition from the Tigers on May 27, Seabold made five appearances out of the Toronto bullpen and gave up three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one batter in 3.1 innings. The 30-year-old right-hander will give up his spot on the roster to Max Scherzer (ankle/forearm), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Phillies.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Activated ahead of start Wednesday
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 3:05 PM
The Blue Jays reinstated Scherzer (forearm/ankle) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Phillies in Toronto.
Analysis: Scherzer will take the hill for Toronto for the first time since April 24 after he was shelved more than six weeks due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. The veteran hurler was cleared to return to the Toronto rotation after completing a pair of rehab starts with Triple-A Buffalo. He built up to 3.2 innings and 73 pitches in his final rehab appearance last week, so Scherzer should be operating with only a minor workload restriction Wednesday.
Andres Gimenez
Andres Gimenez Sitting versus southpaw
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 3:04 PM
Gimenez is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Phillies.
Analysis: Gimenez was an everyday player early on in the season, but the left-handed hitter has been out of the lineup against against most southpaws since late April. Ernie Clement will slide over to shortstop for the Blue Jays, and Charles McAdoo will enter the lineup at second base.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Out for fifth straight game
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 3:00 PM
Varsho (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Phillies.
Analysis: Varsho will be held out of the lineup for a fifth straight game, though his absence may have more to do with the matchup versus a lefty starter (Jesus Luzardo) than any major concern about his left wrist injury. After an MRI on his wrist returned negative Tuesday, Varsho was deployed off the bench as a pinch runner later that night and stole a base and scored a run in the Blue Jays' 3-2 win. He should be available off the bench once again Wednesday and could be ready to rejoin the lineup Friday, when the Blue Jays open a three-game series versus the Yankees.
Jesus Sanchez
Jesus Sanchez Cracks solo homer Tuesday
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 9:44 PM
Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a double during Tuesday's 3-2 win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: The Blue Jays were kept off the board through the first five innings, but Sanchez changed that with a solo blast off Zack Wheeler in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1. Sanchez tied a season high with three knocks, and Tuesday marked his 12th multi-hit game of the season. Three of those multi-hit games have come over his last five outings, during which he has gone 8-for-17 with three extra-base hits and three runs scored.
Brandon Valenzuela
Brandon Valenzuela Hits walk-off single Tuesday
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 9:41 PM
Valenzuela went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Phillies.
Analysis: Valenzuela failed to reach base safely in his first three plate appearances, but the rookie catcher came up clutch with an RBI single in the ninth that brought the game-winning run home. Valenzuela has been effective at the plate this season and has gone 7-for-18 (.389) with seven RBI, five extra-base hits and four runs scored over his last six games. Alejandro Kirk (thumb) is on track to return from the 60-day injured list Friday, but despite having minor-league options, the Blue Jays might keep Valenzuela on the 26-man roster rather than send him down to the minors, though Tyler Heineman does not have any options remaining.
Louis Varland
Louis Varland Gives up second earned run of 2026
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 9:37 PM
Varland (3-1) was credited with the win Tuesday against the Phillies after giving up one run on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter in the ninth inning.
Analysis: Varland was brought out for the ninth with the game tied at 1-1, but he gave up just his second run of the season on a two-out RBI double to Bryson Stott. Luckily for Varland, that was the only run he gave up in the frame, and he came away with the win after the Blue Jays scored two runs in the bottom of the frame, capped up off by a walk-off single from Brandon Valenzuela. Varland now sits at a 0.50 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 46:10 K:BB across 35.2 innings this season and has converted all 11 of his save opportunities.
Dylan Cease
Dylan Cease Spectacular in return from IL
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 8:46 PM
Cease did not factor into Tuesday's decision against the Phillies, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out 11 across six innings.
Analysis: Cease was activated from the 15-day injured list prior to Tuesday's start after fully recovering from a strained hamstring. He got off to a slow start by yielding a run in the first, but that was the only blemish in what was a sensational return for Cease, who tied a career high with 29 whiffs. It was the fourth time this season that the right-hander struck out at least 10 batters, and he was still throwing his fastball at 98 mph in the sixth inning. Cease's return is a welcome one for a Blue Jays team that is knocking on the door for the last spot in the American League Wild Card race. He's lined up to face the Red Sox at Fenway Park next week.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho MRI returns clean
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 3:36 PM
Manager John Schneider said that Varsho, who is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies, had an MRI on his left wrist come back negative, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: The skipper also said that Varsho is still feeling "a little bit sore" as he misses a fourth straight game due to wrist inflammation, and the Blue Jays are waiting for some more feedback from a hand specialist before deciding the next steps. The club would like to avoid placing the 30-year-old on the injured list, but there may not be much of a choice if his absence extends much longer.
Lazaro Estrada
Lazaro Estrada Completes third rehab appearance
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 3:33 PM
Estrada (shoulder) struck out three over three perfect innings of relief Sunday in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Buffalo.
Analysis: After working as a starter in his first two rehab appearances between Single-A Dunedin and Buffalo, Estrada shifted to the bullpen for his third minor-league outing. While piggybacking starter Grant Rogers, Estrada was sharp Sunday, needing just 29 pitches to record nine outs. Estrada is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list at any point, but the Blue Jays may continue to keep him on assignment for another appearance or two if they intend to get him stretched out further.
George Springer
George Springer Exiting starting lineup
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 3:11 PM
Springer is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Springer went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Monday's series opener and is hitless over his last three contests, so he'll get a day to regroup. Vladimir Guerrero will get a day at designated hitter, and Charles McAdoo will play first base.
Adam Macko
Adam Macko Optioned to Buffalo
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 3:10 PM
The Blue Jays optioned Macko to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, reports Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
Analysis: Macko will make his way back down to Triple-A after being called up May 17. With the big-league club, the 25-year-old posted a 1.50 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB in 12 innings. Macko will be demoted to Buffalo in order to make room for Dylan Cease (hamstring) on the active roster.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Held out again Tuesday
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 3:09 PM
Varsho (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Phillies.
Analysis: It's his fourth straight absence as Varsho continues to deal with left wrist inflammation. The Blue Jays have been optimistic that Varsho will be able to avoid a stint on the injured list, but he'll need to be game-ready soon or the club will have no choice but to make a transaction. Nathan Lukes is in center field for Toronto on Tuesday.
Dylan Cease
Dylan Cease Activated from IL, starting Tuesday
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 3:06 PM
Toronto activated Cease (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Phillies, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: After landing on the IL with a strained hamstring May 25, Cease will rejoin the Blue Jays' rotation having made one rehab start at Triple-A. Before landing on the IL, the 30-year-old recorded a 3.05 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 92:26 K:BB in 62 innings. Toronto will send down Adam Macko to Triple-A Buffalo in order to make room for Cease on the active roster.
Rehabbing in Florida
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 2:36 PM
High-A Vancouver sent Casey (broken hamate) to the Florida Complex League on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Geoff Pontes of Baseball America reports.
Analysis: He played in just one game at High-A before suffering the injury at the beginning of this season. Casey, who slashed .281/.439/.531 with three home runs and four steals in 23 games as a 22-year-old at Single-A last year, should return sometime in the coming weeks.
Recovering from elbow surgery
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 2:32 PM
Bucknam will miss all of 2026 and some of 2027 recovering from elbow surgery, Geoff Pontes of Baseball America reports.
Analysis: The Jays' fourth-round selection in last year's draft, Bucknam will have to wait until at least next summer to make his pro debut.
Ernie Clement
Ernie Clement Swats seventh homer
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 10:19 AM
Clement went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Phillies.
Analysis: The 30-year-old infielder took Cristopher Sanchez deep in the fifth inning, providing the last bit of offense in a 5-2 loss. Clement has two homers in the last three games and four multi-hit performances in the first seven games of June, boosting his slash line on the season to .309/.328/.473 with seven home runs, two steals, 26 RBI and 31 runs in 66 contests.
Shane Bieber
Shane Bieber Making fourth rehab start Thursday
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 9:30 AM
Bieber (elbow) is scheduled to make the fourth start of his rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Buffalo, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: After pitching for three different affiliates during his first three rehab outings, Bieber will stick around with Buffalo for a second consecutive appearance. Per Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Bieber could push up to the 70-75-pitch range Thursday, which would put him in consideration for a 2026 MLB debut as soon as next week. However, the right-hander may realistically need another rehab appearance or two beyond Thursday, given the uneven results he's had as he works his way back from inflammation in his surgically repaired right elbow. While Bieber has posted a strong 8:0 K:BB in seven innings during his time in the minors, he's been knocked around for eight earned runs on 15 hits.
Jesus Sanchez
Jesus Sanchez Sitting against lefty
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 4:27 PM
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: The Blue Jays will spare the left-handed-hitting Sanchez from a matchup with a tough lefty in Cristopher Sanchez and give him a breather in the series opener. With Sanchez on the bench, Toronto will go with Nathan Lukes and Yohendrick Pinango as its starters in the corner outfield.
Brandon Valenzuela
Brandon Valenzuela Resting after big weekend
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 4:24 PM
Valenzuela is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Tyler Heineman will step in behind the plate for the series opener while Valenzuela gets a well-deserved breather following a productive weekend series against the Orioles. Valenzuela caught all three games against Baltimore, going 5-for-9 with two home runs, two doubles, one walk, five RBI and three runs. Though he currently sits atop the depth chart at catcher, Valenzuela could see his playing time get curbed dramatically as soon as the upcoming weekend, when Alejandro Kirk (thumb) may be ready to return from the 60-day injured list.
