Shane Bieber
Shane Bieber Needs one more rehab start
Fri, Jun 12, 2026, 5:11 PM
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Friday that Bieber (elbow) will likely make another rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo before rejoining Toronto, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Bieber looked sharp in his second rehab start Thursday, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. If the veteran right-hander needs another turn in Triple-A and all goes well, then he could be available to return for the Blue Jays' series opener against the Astros on Monday, June 22. Bieber's return would likely result in Patrick Corbin being removed from the Blue Jays' rotation.
Davis Schneider
Davis Schneider Back in majors
Fri, Jun 12, 2026, 2:31 PM
The Blue Jays recalled Schneider from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.
Analysis: The 27-year-old was optioned to Buffalo in late April but will return to the big club Friday since Daulton Varsho (wrist) is headed to the injured list. Schneider has struggled to a .127/.295/.211 slash line and 34.8 percent strikeout rate in 89 major-league plate appearances this year. He was more productive during his stint at Triple-A with a .769 OPS, though that came as the result of a .188 average and a ridiculous 24:8 BB:K in 14 games.
Yariel Rodriguez
Yariel Rodriguez Remains in organization
Fri, Jun 12, 2026, 2:27 PM
The Blue Jays outrighted Rodriguez to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.
Analysis: Rodriguez cleared waivers after being removed from the 40-man roster, and he will stay in the organization. The right-hander has put up a 7.71 ERA and 6:7 K:BB over 9.1 innings at the big-league level in 2026.
Tyler Heineman
Tyler Heineman Designated for assignment
Fri, Jun 12, 2026, 2:25 PM
The Blue Jays designated Heineman for assignment Friday.
Analysis: Alejandro Kirk (thumb) is back from the injured list, and the Blue Jays have elected to keep Brandon Valenzuela around as his backup rather than Heineman. Heineman is hitting only .154/.205/.205 this season and could clear waivers, though if that happens he would have the ability to elect free agency.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Lands on IL with wrist inflammation
Fri, Jun 12, 2026, 2:21 PM
The Blue Jays placed Varsho on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation.
Analysis: It's been a week since Varsho started a game, though he has appeared off the bench a few times during that stretch. Ultimately, the outfielder was unable to avoid a trip to the IL, and he will be eligible to return June 20. Myles Straw and Nathan Lukes should handle center field for Toronto while Varsho is out.
Alejandro Kirk
Alejandro Kirk Reinstated from injured list
Fri, Jun 12, 2026, 2:17 PM
The Blue Jays activated Kirk (thumb) from the 60-day injured list Friday.
Analysis: A broken left thumb sent Kirk to the injured list just five games into the season, but he's ready to rejoin the Blue Jays after fully recovering from surgery to repair the fracture. The 27-year-old went 3-for-18 with a homer and a double during his six-game rehab assignment and should immediately reclaim the starting job behind the plate for Toronto. Brandon Valenzuela will fill the backup job with Tyler Heineman being designated for assignment as part of Friday's transactions.
Shane Bieber
Shane Bieber Scoreless start in rehab outing
Thu, Jun 11, 2026, 7:26 PM
Bieber (elbow) tossed six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out five batters in his rehab outing with Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Bieber was making his second start with Buffalo, and he was far more successful the second time around, notching 46 strikes over 62 total pitches. The right-hander was able to average 91.4 mph on his fastballs, peaking at 93 mph on the day. Bieber may need just one more rehab start before making his 2026 debut with the Blue Jays.
Myles Straw
Myles Straw Three hits in Wednesday's loss
Thu, Jun 11, 2026, 8:35 AM
Straw went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.
Analysis: Making his fourth start in the last five games while Daulton Varsho tends to a wrist issue, Straw set a new season high in hits while extending his run-scoring streak to a modest three contests. Since Varsho was injured June 4, Straw has gone 6-for-16 (.375) with a double, three RBI and four runs, and he should continue to see consistent playing time in the short term.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Fares poorly in return
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 9:57 PM
Scherzer (1-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: After missing more than six weeks due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation, Scherzer didn't have his best stuff on the mound in his return Wednesday. The 41-year-old right-hander has now made it through four innings just one time through six starts so far this year, failing to record more than four punchouts in any outing. Scherzer will take a miserable 10.23 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 14:11 K:BB over 22 innings into his next scheduled appearance in Boston.
Connor Seabold
Connor Seabold Loses roster spot
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 4:16 PM
The Blue Jays designated Seabold for assignment Wednesday.
Analysis: Following his acquisition from the Tigers on May 27, Seabold made five appearances out of the Toronto bullpen and gave up three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one batter in 3.1 innings. The 30-year-old right-hander will give up his spot on the roster to Max Scherzer (ankle/forearm), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Phillies.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Activated ahead of start Wednesday
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 3:05 PM
The Blue Jays reinstated Scherzer (forearm/ankle) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Phillies in Toronto.
Analysis: Scherzer will take the hill for Toronto for the first time since April 24 after he was shelved more than six weeks due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. The veteran hurler was cleared to return to the Toronto rotation after completing a pair of rehab starts with Triple-A Buffalo. He built up to 3.2 innings and 73 pitches in his final rehab appearance last week, so Scherzer should be operating with only a minor workload restriction Wednesday.
Andres Gimenez
Andres Gimenez Sitting versus southpaw
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 3:04 PM
Gimenez is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Phillies.
Analysis: Gimenez was an everyday player early on in the season, but the left-handed hitter has been out of the lineup against against most southpaws since late April. Ernie Clement will slide over to shortstop for the Blue Jays, and Charles McAdoo will enter the lineup at second base.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Out for fifth straight game
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 3:00 PM
Varsho (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Phillies.
Analysis: Varsho will be held out of the lineup for a fifth straight game, though his absence may have more to do with the matchup versus a lefty starter (Jesus Luzardo) than any major concern about his left wrist injury. After an MRI on his wrist returned negative Tuesday, Varsho was deployed off the bench as a pinch runner later that night and stole a base and scored a run in the Blue Jays' 3-2 win. He should be available off the bench once again Wednesday and could be ready to rejoin the lineup Friday, when the Blue Jays open a three-game series versus the Yankees.
Jesus Sanchez
Jesus Sanchez Cracks solo homer Tuesday
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 9:44 PM
Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a double during Tuesday's 3-2 win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: The Blue Jays were kept off the board through the first five innings, but Sanchez changed that with a solo blast off Zack Wheeler in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1. Sanchez tied a season high with three knocks, and Tuesday marked his 12th multi-hit game of the season. Three of those multi-hit games have come over his last five outings, during which he has gone 8-for-17 with three extra-base hits and three runs scored.
Brandon Valenzuela
Brandon Valenzuela Hits walk-off single Tuesday
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 9:41 PM
Valenzuela went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Phillies.
Analysis: Valenzuela failed to reach base safely in his first three plate appearances, but the rookie catcher came up clutch with an RBI single in the ninth that brought the game-winning run home. Valenzuela has been effective at the plate this season and has gone 7-for-18 (.389) with seven RBI, five extra-base hits and four runs scored over his last six games. Alejandro Kirk (thumb) is on track to return from the 60-day injured list Friday, but despite having minor-league options, the Blue Jays might keep Valenzuela on the 26-man roster rather than send him down to the minors, though Tyler Heineman does not have any options remaining.
Louis Varland
Louis Varland Gives up second earned run of 2026
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 9:37 PM
Varland (3-1) was credited with the win Tuesday against the Phillies after giving up one run on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter in the ninth inning.
Analysis: Varland was brought out for the ninth with the game tied at 1-1, but he gave up just his second run of the season on a two-out RBI double to Bryson Stott. Luckily for Varland, that was the only run he gave up in the frame, and he came away with the win after the Blue Jays scored two runs in the bottom of the frame, capped up off by a walk-off single from Brandon Valenzuela. Varland now sits at a 0.50 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 46:10 K:BB across 35.2 innings this season and has converted all 11 of his save opportunities.
Dylan Cease
Dylan Cease Spectacular in return from IL
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 8:46 PM
Cease did not factor into Tuesday's decision against the Phillies, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out 11 across six innings.
Analysis: Cease was activated from the 15-day injured list prior to Tuesday's start after fully recovering from a strained hamstring. He got off to a slow start by yielding a run in the first, but that was the only blemish in what was a sensational return for Cease, who tied a career high with 29 whiffs. It was the fourth time this season that the right-hander struck out at least 10 batters, and he was still throwing his fastball at 98 mph in the sixth inning. Cease's return is a welcome one for a Blue Jays team that is knocking on the door for the last spot in the American League Wild Card race. He's lined up to face the Red Sox at Fenway Park next week.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho MRI returns clean
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 3:36 PM
Manager John Schneider said that Varsho, who is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies, had an MRI on his left wrist come back negative, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: The skipper also said that Varsho is still feeling "a little bit sore" as he misses a fourth straight game due to wrist inflammation, and the Blue Jays are waiting for some more feedback from a hand specialist before deciding the next steps. The club would like to avoid placing the 30-year-old on the injured list, but there may not be much of a choice if his absence extends much longer.
Lazaro Estrada
Lazaro Estrada Completes third rehab appearance
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 3:33 PM
Estrada (shoulder) struck out three over three perfect innings of relief Sunday in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Buffalo.
Analysis: After working as a starter in his first two rehab appearances between Single-A Dunedin and Buffalo, Estrada shifted to the bullpen for his third minor-league outing. While piggybacking starter Grant Rogers, Estrada was sharp Sunday, needing just 29 pitches to record nine outs. Estrada is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list at any point, but the Blue Jays may continue to keep him on assignment for another appearance or two if they intend to get him stretched out further.
George Springer
George Springer Exiting starting lineup
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 3:11 PM
Springer is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Springer went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Monday's series opener and is hitless over his last three contests, so he'll get a day to regroup. Vladimir Guerrero will get a day at designated hitter, and Charles McAdoo will play first base.
