Rhylan Thomas
Rhylan Thomas Finds work with Toronto
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 11:29 AM
Thomas signed a minor-league contract with the Blue Jays on Monday.
Analysis: He reported to the Blue Jays' complex in Florida earlier this week to begin his time with the organization, but Thomas should eventually settle at Triple-A Buffalo. The 26-year-old outfielder had previously been part of the Mariners' and Astros' 40-man rosters earlier this season but had played exclusively at the Triple-A level for both organizations, slashing a collective .253/.304/.307 with two home runs and six steals across 184 plate appearances.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Return on Saturday not ruled out
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 11:25 AM
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Thursday that Varsho (wrist) could be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Saturday, but he will "have to do a lot today and tomorrow" in order to make that happen, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Varsho resumed hitting this week as he works his way back from left wrist inflammation. If the outfielder is not quite ready to return to the active roster this weekend, he might need a rehab game or two in order to knock the rust off. Nathan Lukes and Myles Straw have been handling center field for Toronto since Varsho went down.
Anthony Santander
Anthony Santander Could resume hitting soon
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 11:20 AM
Santander (shoulder) could resume hitting within the next week, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Santander underwent surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder in February, but he "could definitely be a factor" for the Blue Jays by August, manager John Schneider said Thursday. A timetable for Santander's return won't become clearer until he's ready for a rehab assignment, and he will need the equivalent of a full spring training's worth of at-bats before being activated.
Lenyn Sosa
Lenyn Sosa Rehab games around the corner
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 11:14 AM
Sosa (wrist) could begin a rehab assignment next week, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Out since late May with a right wrist contusion, Sosa has been hitting and going through defensive drills as the Blue Jays' spring training complex in Florida. He is likely a week or so away from playing in games and should rejoin the Blue Jays around July 1.
Addison Barger
Addison Barger Rehab could be pushed to next week
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 11:11 AM
Barger (elbow) might not begin a rehab assignment until early next week, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Barger continues to make progress with his right elbow inflammation but could need an additional few more days than expected to ramp up activities before he's cleared to play in games. He should still be able to return to the Blue Jays' active roster before the end of June.
Alejandro Kirk
Alejandro Kirk Getting breather Thursday
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 9:50 AM
Kirk is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Boston.
Analysis: Kirk started behind the dish each of the last three games, so he will get some rest during Thursday's matinee. Brandon Valenzuela will start at catcher and bat eighth as the Blue Jays look to complete the series sweep.
George Springer
George Springer Pilfers two bags in win
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 9:40 AM
Springer went 0-for-3 with two stolen bases in Wednesday's win over the Red Sox.
Analysis: The Blue Jays evidently liked seeing Mickey Gasper working behind the plate for Boston, as they went 5-for-5 on steal attempts against him during the game. Springer's thefts both came in the third inning after he was hit by a Jake Bennett pitch, but he was left stranded at third base by a Kazuma Okamoto groundout. Springer has just six stolen bases on the season to go along with a .212/.308/.369 slash line, seven home runs, 19 RBI and 22 runs in 52 contests, but three of those steals have come in the last two games.
Andres Gimenez
Andres Gimenez Swipes three bags Wednesday
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 9:37 AM
Gimenez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and three stolen bases in Wednesday's win over the Red Sox.
Analysis: The Blue Jays evidently liked seeing Mickey Gasper working behind the plate for Boston, as they went 5-for-5 on steal attempts against him during the game. It was the third three-steal game of Gimenez's career, and his first since July 6, 2023 when he was still playing for Cleveland. It was also the 27-year-old infielder's fourth multi-hit performance in the last 10 contests, a stretch in which he's slashing .355/.394/.548 with three doubles, a homer, four RBI and six runs in addition to Wednesday's thefts.
Shane Bieber
Shane Bieber Stretches out to 80 pitches
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 9:31 AM
Bieber (elbow) built up to 80 pitches Wednesday in what's likely to be his final rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo, giving up five runs on seven hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: The results weren't pretty, as Bieber served up homers to career minor leaguers Ryan Galanie and Andy Weber -- neither of whom are even on the 40-man roster for the White Sox -- but the veteran right-hander was sitting 91-92 mph with his fastball and topped out at 93.0 mph. With Max Scherzer (back) landing on the IL on Wednesday, the Blue Jays likely can't afford to give Bieber another rehab start to round into form. If he stays on turn, he lines up to make his 2026 big-league debut early next week at home against the Astros.
Louis Varland
Louis Varland Shuts door for 14th save
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 10:13 PM
Varland secured the save Wednesday against the Red Sox, striking out the side.
Analysis: Varland made quick work of the scuffling Boston bats Wednesday, throwing all but one of his 10 pitches for strikes. After taking over the closing duties from Jeff Hoffman earlier this year, Varland is running away with the job in 2026. Through 40 innings, the 28-year-old right-hander boasts a 0.90 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 55:11 K:BB while going a pristine 14-for-14 in save situations.
Simeon Woods Richardson
Simeon Woods Richardson Finally gets into win column
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 10:07 PM
Woods Richardson (1-7) notched the win Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing no runs on three hits and three walks in three innings. He struck out one.
Analysis: Woods Richardson landed only 28 of his 55 offerings for strikes, but he still managed to keep Boston off the board en route to getting into the win column for the first time this year. After being jettisoned by the Twins earlier this season, the 25-year-old right-hander is up to seven scoreless frames covering two outings in bulk relief with the Blue Jays. Even so, Woods Richardson has a 6.75 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 30:28 K:BB over 54.2 innings on the campaign and could be relegated to mop-up duties more frequently once Shane Bieber (elbow) is ready to make his season debut.
Yimi Garcia
Yimi Garcia Will pitch again Thursday
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 4:06 PM
Garcia (elbow) struck out the side on Tuesday for Triple-A Buffalo and plans to pitch again Thursday, reports Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca.
Analysis: After recording a 13-pitch inning for Buffalo on Tuesday, Toronto is looking to carry out their original plan of getting Garcia into more action before he makes his season debut for the big-league club. The 35-year-old was originally placed on the 15-day injured list on March 25 and then was transferred to the 60-day IL a month later on April 25. Garcia appeared in 22 games for Toronto in 2025, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB through 21 innings.
Yohendrick Pinango
Yohendrick Pinango Idle with lefty starting for Boston
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 3:13 PM
Pinango is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Pinango will be on the bench once again Wednesday while the Red Sox send a lefty starter (Jake Bennett) to the hill for the second straight day. Toronto will roll out a starting outfield of Davis Schneider, Myles Straw and Jesus Sanchez from left to right in the penultimate game of the series.
Nathan Lukes
Nathan Lukes Taking seat against lefty
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 3:12 PM
Lukes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
Analysis: With southpaw Jake Bennett on the bump for Boston, the left-handed-hitting Lukes will retreat to the bench after he had started each of the last seven games while going 8-for-28 (.286 average) with two runs and one RBI. Toronto will go with a starting outfield of Davis Schneider, Myles Straw and Jesus Sanchez from left to right.
Braydon Fisher
Braydon Fisher Drawing opener assignment
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 2:52 PM
Fisher will serve as the Blue Jays' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game in Boston, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Max Scherzer had been scheduled to start Wednesday, but after he developed back spasms that resulted in his unexpected placement on the IL, the Blue Jays will pivot to a bullpen game. The opener assignment is a familiar one for Fisher, who has previously made four of his 36 appearances this season as a starter. He hasn't recorded more than six outs in any of those outings, so he'll likely cover no more than an inning or two before exiting the game. Chad Dallas and Simeon Woods Richardson are on hand as fresh arms capable of covering multiple frames in relief behind Fisher.
Chad Dallas
Chad Dallas Back in big leagues
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 2:47 PM
The Blue Jays recalled Dallas from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.
Analysis: Toronto had optioned Dallas to Triple-A on June 5, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the big club less than two weeks later after Max Scherzer (back) was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Scherzer had been scheduled to start Wednesday's game in Boston, but his move to the IL will prompt the Blue Jays to turn to Braydon Fisher to open the contest. Dallas will be available on five days' rest and could be called upon to cover multiple innings out of the bullpen once Fisher exits the game, though Simeon Woods Richardson also lingers as a fresh arm that Toronto could lean on in bulk relief.
Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Scratched due to back spasms
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 2:38 PM
The Blue Jays placed Scherzer on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to back spasms.
Analysis: Scherzer had been slated to start Wednesday in Boston, but the Blue Jays instead opted to put him on the shelf after he experienced the back issue when he woke up Monday and didn't respond to treatment as quickly as the team had hoped, per Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca. Toronto recalled Chad Dallas from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move, and he could be tasked with covering multiple innings out of the bullpen Wednesday once opening pitcher Braydon Fisher exits the contest. Scherzer's move to the IL comes just one week after the Blue Jays activated him following an absence of nearly seven weeks due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. The transaction is retroactive to Sunday, so Scherzer will be eligible for activation as soon as June 29.
Andres Gimenez
Andres Gimenez Two XBH in win over Boston
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 10:20 AM
Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.
Analysis: The shortstop went back-to-back with Davis Schneider in the fifth inning off Payton Tolle, propelling the Blue Jays to a 3-0 lead. Gimenez was held out of the starting nine Sunday against the Yankees due to a sore wrist, but Tuesday's performance suggests he's fully healthy. The long ball was his first since May 28, but through 13 games in June, Gimenez is slashing a respectable .282/.333/.436 with three doubles, a steal, three RBI and four runs.
George Springer
George Springer Another big effort Tuesday
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 10:15 AM
Springer went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, three RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.
Analysis: The veteran slugger homered for the second time in four games, while the steal was his first since May 26. Springer is picking up his pace at the plate, slashing .257/.413/.486 over his last 10 contests, but on the season the 36-year-old still carries a disappointing .683 OPS with seven home runs, four stolen bases, 19 RBI and 22 runs over 51 games.
Davis Schneider
Davis Schneider Homers in second straight game
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 8:13 AM
Schneider went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Red Sox.
Analysis: The mustachioed slugger launched a solo shot over the Green Monster off Payton Tolle in the fifth inning before banging an RBI double off the Fenway landmark in the sixth. The homer was Schneider's third of the season and second in as many games, and he looks locked in at the plate since rejoining the big-league roster over the weekend. In three contests since being called back up, Schneider's gone 4-for-9 with three extra-base hits.
