Brandon Valenzuela
Brandon Valenzuela Idle Sunday
Sun, May 3, 2026, 9:54 AM
Valenzuela is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Tyler Heineman will draw the start behind the plate Sunday, but Valenzuela may have overtaken him as the Blue Jays' preferred option at the position while top backstop Alejandro Kirk (thumb) remains on the injured list. Valenzuela started in three of the previous four games and owns a .680 OPS on the season, clearing Heineman's mark (.423) by more than 250 points.
George Springer
George Springer Taking seat for series finale
Sun, May 3, 2026, 9:43 AM
Springer is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Springer was forced out of Saturday's 11-4 win in the third inning after being hit by a pitch in the left foot, right near the same spot of the big toe that he previously fractured April 11. Fortunately for Springer, X-rays revealed no new damage to his foot, but the veteran will need at least one day off while he's presumably still dealing with some soreness. With Springer on the bench for the series finale in Minnesota, Yohendrick Pinango will get a look in the leadoff spot.
Lenyn Sosa
Lenyn Sosa Belts first long ball as Blue Jay
Sat, May 2, 2026, 5:30 PM
Sosa went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run and an additional RBI on Saturday against the Twins in an 11-4 victory.
Analysis: Sosa kicked off the scoring for Toronto with a 415-foot solo shot in the second inning. He added another RBI on an infield single in the eighth. The long ball was Sosa's first of the season in his 24th game after he went deep 22 times across 140 contests with the White Sox last year. Overall, he's slashing a modest .257/.254/.386 and has yet to take a walk over 72 plate appearances on the campaign, but he may be heating up after going 5-for-9 across his past two games.
Brandon Valenzuela
Brandon Valenzuela Knocks third homer
Sat, May 2, 2026, 5:23 PM
Valenzuela went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk Saturday in an 11-4 victory versus Minnesota.
Analysis: Valenzuela had the biggest hit in an eight-run eighth inning for Toronto, mashing a three-run homer to center field. Saturday marked the rookie backstop's third start behind the plate over the Blue Jays' past four games, and he's gone 4-for-9 with two home runs and four RBI during that span. Valenzuela seems to be building momentum over Tyler Heineman as Toronto's primary catcher wile Alejandro Kirk (thumb) remains sidelined.
Kazuma Okamoto
Kazuma Okamoto Goes deep again Saturday
Sat, May 2, 2026, 5:17 PM
Okamoto went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, two total runs and two total RBI in an 11-4 victory versus the Twins on Saturday.
Analysis: Okamoto brought Toronto to within a run with a huge 453-foot solo shot to center field in the sixth inning. He then kicked off the scoring in the Blue Jays' eight-run eighth frame with an RBI single. Okamoto went deep twice Friday, so he now has three homers over his past two games. On the season, he's slashing 235/.316/.454 with eight long balls, 17 runs and 20 RBI through 133 plate appearances.
Dylan Cease
Dylan Cease Fans seven in victory
Sat, May 2, 2026, 4:39 PM
Cease (2-1) earned the win over Minnesota on Saturday, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over seven innings.
Analysis: Cease had a bit of a rough beginning to his outing, serving up a leadoff homer to Byron Buxton in the bottom of the first inning and giving up two more runs (one of which was unearned) in the second. He settled down from there but still trailed 4-3 following his seventh and final frame. However, Toronto's offense came through for the right-hander, putting up eight runs in the top of the eighth to line him up for the victory. Cease struck out seven and racked up 16 whiffs, and he's second overall in the majors this season with 56 punchouts over 38.1 frames. He's been an impactful starter for fantasy managers, complementing his big strikeout total with a 3.05 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.
George Springer
George Springer No new damage in foot
Sat, May 2, 2026, 4:30 PM
X-rays on Springer's left foot revealed no new damage following his removal from Saturday's game against the Twins, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Springer is still dealing with the fracture in his big toe that he initially suffered in mid-April, but he plans to play through it. Manager John Schneider said that Springer will sit out Sunday's series finale, as was the plan coming into Saturday's contest, which will give the veteran outfielder an extra day to recover and potentially return to the starting lineup for Monday's series opener in Tampa.
George Springer
George Springer Exits after HBP
Sat, May 2, 2026, 2:03 PM
Springer was removed from Saturday's game against the Twins after getting hit on the left foot by a pitch, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Springer returned from the injured list Wednesday after missing a couple of weeks with a fractured left big toe, and the pitch that hit him Saturday seemed to strike the same place. The Jays will almost certainly send him in for X-rays to determine the extent of the damage, and it's possible the 36-year-old has to spend more time on the IL.
Nathan Lukes
Nathan Lukes Hitting in cages
Sat, May 2, 2026, 11:31 AM
Lukes (hamstring) resumed hitting in the batting cages Friday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: The team estimates that Lukes is still about a week away from starting up a running progression, but a return to hitting marks a significant milestone in his recovery from a left hamstring strain. It remains unknown when he'll be cleared to return from the injured list, though a timeline could emerge once he begins running.
Tyler Heineman
Tyler Heineman Resting Saturday
Sat, May 2, 2026, 10:58 AM
Heineman isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota.
Analysis: After starting the season with a .188 batting average and .423 OPS through 20 games, Heineman will take a seat on the bench for the third time in Toronto's last four games while Brandon Valenzuela starts at catcher.
Yohendrick Pinango
Yohendrick Pinango Three singles, two RBI in win
Sat, May 2, 2026, 9:32 AM
Pinango went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's 7-3 win over the Twins.
Analysis: The rookie outfielder made his fourth start since being called up last week and is now 5-for-10 at the plate with three RBI and one walk. He's still searching for his first extra-base hit but should continue to see regular playing time against right-handed pitching while Addison Barger (ankle) and Nathan Lukes (hamstring) remain on the injured list.
Lenyn Sosa
Lenyn Sosa Three hits in win Friday
Sat, May 2, 2026, 9:29 AM
Sosa went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Twins.
Analysis: It was Sosa's first multi-hit game since he joined the Blue Jays via trade from the White Sox on April 13. Across 34 trips to the plate with Toronto, Sosa has a .281/.273/.375 slash line with three doubles, four RBI, four runs scored and a 0:6 BB:K. He's serving as the team's utility infielder.
Kazuma Okamoto
Kazuma Okamoto First career multi-HR game Friday
Sat, May 2, 2026, 9:25 AM
Okamoto went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI, one walk and three runs scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Twins.
Analysis: It was Okamoto's first career multi-homer game, as he took Simeon Woods Richardson deep for a solo shot in the fourth inning and a two-run blast in the fifth. Okamoto now has seven long balls on the season to go with a .228/.313/.430 slash line, 18 RBI, 15 runs scored and a 14:38 BB:K across 128 plate appearances. He's striking out close to 30 percent of the time but has promising 43.4 percent flyball and 42.1 percent hard-hit rates. Okamoto is in the 90th percentile with a 92.8 mph average exit velocity.
Patrick Corbin
Patrick Corbin Picks up first win Friday
Sat, May 2, 2026, 9:19 AM
Corbin (1-0) picked up the win Friday against the Twins, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts across 5.1 innings.
Analysis: After getting hammered for four runs across four innings in his season debut against these same Twins back on April 10, Corbin has allowed just six runs across 20.2 innings in four starts. The 36-year-old has a plus slider but otherwise has banked on location rather than pure stuff in his 14th major-league season. Corbin has registered a 3.65 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB across 24.2 innings and should remain in the rotation while Shane Bieber (elbow), Max Scherzer (forearm/ankle) and Jose Berrios (elbow) work their way back from injuries.
Ernie Clement
Ernie Clement Getting first day off
Fri, May 1, 2026, 5:04 PM
Clement is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: Clement started Toronto's first 31 games of the season, but he'll receive his first day off Friday while in the midst of a 2-for-14 slump. Lenyn Sosa will instead man the keystone and bat sixth versus Minnesota righty Simeon Woods Richardson.
Jose Berrios
Jose Berrios Slated for one more rehab start
Fri, May 1, 2026, 4:59 PM
Berrios (elbow) will appear in one more rehab outing with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Berrios wasn't great in his last rehab appearance with Buffalo on Wednesday, when he tossed 70 pitches and allowed five runs on five hits (including two homers) and two walks while striking out two across four innings. With Berrios scheduled to pitch Sunday, he could rejoin the Blue Jays for their weekend home series against the Angels that kicks off Friday, May 8, barring any setbacks.
Debuts at Double-A level
Fri, May 1, 2026, 11:20 AM
Pinto (personal) has gone 1-for-7 with a home run and two walks in two games for Double-A New Hampshire since being assigned to the affiliate Tuesday.
Analysis: After being a late arrival to spring training due to visa issues, Pinto opened the season on High-A Vancouver's restricted list. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the Florida State League on April 14, and after going 6-for-27 with a home run and 4:4 BB:K in seven games with Single-A Dunedin, Pinto was activated and bumped up to Double-A. The 23-year-old infielder has been productive at the dish throughout his minor-league career, but availability has been an issue. He hasn't played in more than 50 games in any of the last four seasons.
Daulton Varsho
Daulton Varsho Belts fourth homer
Fri, May 1, 2026, 8:47 AM
Varsho went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Twins.
Analysis: The center fielder took Bailey Ober deep in the fourth inning, but it was all the offense Toronto could manage on the night. Varsho snapped a 12-game homer drought with the blast, and on the season he's slashing .235/.312/.408 with four long balls, two steals, eight RBI and 12 runs in 29 contests.
George Springer
George Springer Two knocks in first start back
Fri, May 1, 2026, 8:45 AM
Springer went 2-for-4 in Thursday's loss to the Twins.
Analysis: Back in his usual spot at DH and hitting leadoff in his first start since coming off the IL, Springer banged out a couple singles and was the only Blue Jay to record multiple hits in the contest. The 36-year-old has three hits in six at-bats since recovering from a fractured toe, and he wraps up the month of April with a .237/.341/.316 slash line through 44 plate appearances with zero homers, one steal, two runs and four RBI in 11 games.
Alejandro Kirk
Alejandro Kirk Begins throwing
Thu, Apr 30, 2026, 5:41 PM
Kirk (thumb) has begun a throwing program at the Blue Jays' complex in Florida, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Kirk has spent the past several weeks recovering from a procedure he underwent in early April to repair his fractured left thumb. He was given a six-week return timeline following the operation, which would put him in line to return sometime around mid-May, though an updated estimate will likely emerge as he continues to check off boxes.
