Chris Sale
Chris Sale Plays catch Tuesday
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 10:09 AM
Sale (ribs) played catch Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: It would appear to be the first time Sale has done any throwing since he was diagnosed with a fractured left ribcage nearly a month ago. The left-hander was moved to the 60-day injured list earlier this month, making him ineligible to return until the third full week of August.
Adam Frazier
Adam Frazier Heading back to Kansas City
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 9:39 AM
The Royals acquired Frazier from the Pirates on Wednesday in exchange for infielder Cam Devanney, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis: Frazier spent the 2024 season in Kansas City and evidently made a positive impression despite slashing just .202/.282/.294 over 104 contests. The 33-year-old hasn't been much better in 2025 with a .255/.318/.336 batting line, but he offers some versatility and could see reps at second base and/or in left field against right-handed pitching.
Aaron Ashby
Aaron Ashby Returns from paternity leave
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 9:20 AM
The Brewers reinstated Ashby (personal) from the paternity list Monday.
Analysis: Ashby will rejoin the Brewers to begin the second half after he missed the final three games before the All-Star break to observe the birth of his child. Through 13 appearances out of the Milwaukee bullpen this season, Ashby has compiled a 1.66 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 26:7 K:BB in 21.2 innings while collecting one win and one save.
Shane Bieber
Shane Bieber Sharp in rehab outing
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 8:54 AM
Bieber (elbow) struck out five and allowed one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings Tuesday in a rehab start with the Guardians' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.
Analysis: Bieber took the mound for his first rehab start since May 31, when he made a 2.1-inning appearance in the ACL before being pulled off his assignment when he experienced soreness in his surgically repaired right elbow. The setback was always viewed as a minor one, and Bieber's excellent showing Tuesday in his return to the hill seemingly alleviates any concern the Guardians might have about his elbow moving forward. Bieber will likely need to complete at least three more rehab starts in the minors before the Guardians clear him to return from the 60-day injured list, perhaps at some point in early or mid-August.
Blake Snell
Blake Snell Piles up seven Ks in rehab start
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 8:48 AM
Snell (shoulder) struck out seven and allowed one earned run on three hits and zero walks over three innings in a rehab start Tuesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
Analysis: Because the Florida and Arizona Complex Leagues are the only minor-league affiliates in session during the All-Star break, Snell moved down to rookie ball for his second rehab outing after he previously made a two-inning start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga last Thursday. The veteran southpaw tacked on an inning to his workload Tuesday and settled into a groove toward the end of his start, retiring nine of the final 10 batters he faced. Snell will likely move up to a higher-level affiliate for his third rehab outing, and he may require just one more start in the minors after that before making his return from the 60-day injured list.
Luis Campusano
Luis Campusano Sent back to minors
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 8:38 AM
The Padres optioned Campusano to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.
Analysis: Campusano was recalled ahead of the Padres' final game before the All-Star break but will head back to the minors before the start of the second half. The catcher is still looking for his first base knock this season with the big club, having gone 0-for-21 at the plate. The Padres will announce a corresponding move prior to Friday's game versus the Nationals.
Taijuan Walker
Taijuan Walker Awarded another start
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 8:38 AM
Walker is slated to make his next start Saturday against the Angels in Philadelphia, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: After the Phillies optioned Mick Abel to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on July 4, Walker stepped in last week to fill the vacant rotation spot. Though he had made each of his previous nine appearances out of the bullpen, Walker came through with a strong showing July 8 in San Francisco, limiting the Giants to one run on two hits and two walks over four innings. Walker will likely have a longer leash during Saturday's contest, and he should be able to maintain a spot in the rotation until Aaron Nola (ankle/rib) is ready to return from the 60-day injured list around early or mid-August.
Grant Holman
Grant Holman Shifted to 60-day injured list
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 8:35 AM
The Athletics transferred Holman (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.
Analysis: The transaction frees up a spot on the Athletics' 40-man roster for outfielder Carlos Cortes, who had his contract selected before he was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Holman has already missed nearly a month of action with right rotator cuff tendinitis and won't be eligible for activation until mid-August.
Eugenio Suarez
Eugenio Suarez X-rays negative after HBP
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 11:19 PM
X-rays on Suarez's left hand came back negative after he was hit by a pitch during the All-Star Game, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Analysis: After taking a 96-mph fastball off his hand in the eighth inning, Suarez remained in the game for the remainder of regulation, but he wasn't able to participate as planned in the extra-inning swing-off. It doesn't seem like he suffered any structural damage due to the incident, however, and he'll now have a couple of days off to recover before the second half kicks off Friday. The 33-year-old third baseman slashed .250/.320/.569 with 31 homers before the break and is a candidate to be traded over the next couple of weeks before the deadline.
Nic Enright
Nic Enright Sent back to Triple-A
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 2:14 PM
The Guardians optioned Enright to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.
Analysis: Cleveland summoned Enright from Triple-A to serve as the 27th man for Friday's doubleheader with the White Sox, but his stay with the big club lasted just one day. He appeared out of the bullpen in the second game of the twin bill, striking out three over 1.1 scoreless frames in the Guardians' 5-4 win in 11 innings.
Jon Gray
Jon Gray Work three frames in rehab start
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 2:06 PM
Gray (forearm) struck out two and allowed one earned run on six hits and no walks over three innings Monday in a rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
Analysis: Gray had been scheduled to make his second rehab appearance with Triple-A Round Rock this past weekend, but a rainout nixed those plans. The Rangers instead had him head to the ACL, where he was able to tack an extra inning on to his workload after covering two frames for Round Rock in his first rehab start last Wednesday. Gray is expected move back to the Triple-A club for his next outing this weekend, and he'll likely need to make at least one more start in the minors after that before he garners consideration for a return from the 60-day injured list. The right-hander has been on the shelf all season after fracturing his forearm March 14, when he was struck by a comebacker in a Cactus League outing.
Paul Sewald
Paul Sewald Back to IL with shoulder injury
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 12:26 PM
The Guardians placed Sewald on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to right shoulder strain, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Sewald returned to action for the Guardians on July 5 after he had been shelved since late April due to a right posterior deltoid strain, and now he's back on the IL with another shoulder-related issue. The veteran reliever will be eligible to return July 27, but it's not yet clear what his timeline for a return looks like. Sewald has been limited to only 15.1 innings this season, collecting a 4.70 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB.
Alek Manoah
Alek Manoah Struggles in first rehab start
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 11:52 AM
Manoah (elbow) allowed four runs (three earned) on one hit and two walks while recording just one out in his first rehab start in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Monday.
Analysis: Manoah also hit a batter and was charged with a wild pitch while spotting just 10 of 22 pitches for strikes in the outing. The performance was a discouraging one as the big righty works his way back from internal brace surgery, but Manoah and the Blue Jays aren't necessarily worried about results at this early stage of his rehab assignment. He'll need to complete multiple rehab starts before warranting consideration for a spot in Toronto's rotation by early August.
Tekoah Roby
Tekoah Roby Lands on Triple-A IL
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 11:04 AM
Triple-A Memphis placed Roby on the 7-day injured list Monday due to an unspecified injury.
Analysis: Roby has been lights out lately at Memphis, allowing just two earned runs with a 21:5 K:BB over 21 innings covering his last four starts. The Cardinals haven't provided word on the nature of his latest health concern, but Roby's injury history is lengthy, and his issues have often involved his pitching shoulder. Added to the Cardinals' 40-man roster over the offseason, Roby has posted a 3.10 ERA and 87:19 K:BB across 78.1 frames between Double-A Springfield and Memphis in 2025.
David Robertson
David Robertson Throwing for teams, could sign soon
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 11:03 AM
Robertson is expected to hold throwing sessions in front of representatives from multiple teams within the next week, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Though he turned 40 in April and hasn't pitched in a game since last September, Robertson continues to garner plenty of interest from teams after he compiled a 3.00 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 99:27 K:BB in 72 innings while collecting two saves and 35 holds in 68 appearances for the Rangers a season ago. Robertson declined a $7 million player option in November to become a free agent, and with clubs thus far failing to meet his asking price in free agency, the veteran right-hander has elected to wait for the right opportunity. According to Sammon, the Yankees and Mets are among the teams who have recently checked in with Robertson, and his market could grow bigger once other prominent relievers are dealt elsewhere leading up the July 31 trade deadline.
Matthew Boyd
Matthew Boyd Looks good heading into second half
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 10:23 AM
While Boyd has pitched more MLB innings already in 2025 than he did the last two seasons combined, he appears to be in "good shape" heading into the second half, Zack Meisel and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic report.
Analysis: Boyd had an excellent first half of the season for his new organization, registering a 2.34 ERA and 102 strikeouts across 111.2 innings, which earned him an All-Star selection. The veteran lefty has dealt with a variety of injuries the past few years, and he only managed to log 110.2 major-league innings in 2023 and 2024 combined. While Boyd won't pitch in the All-Star Game to preserve his arm for the second half, the club feels good about how he's responded to the increased workload. "Everything we're looking at with Matt is in really good shape," Chicago manager Craig Counsell said. "There's no signs right now of him slowing down. He's getting better." Boyd may have some minor limitations after the break, but he appears to be in a good position to keep helping fantasy managers.
Travis Jankowski
Travis Jankowski Chooses free agency
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 9:35 AM
Jankowski elected free agency Sunday after clearing waivers.
Analysis: Jankowski will be on the lookout for another minor-league deal after he was recently booted off an organization's 40-man roster for the third time this season. Across his stops with the White Sox, Rays and Mets thus far in 2025, Jankowski has slashed .244/.286/.289 with zero home runs, two steals, eight runs and two RBI over 50 plate appearances in the majors.
Mike Trout
Mike Trout Resuming OF drills after break
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 9:15 AM
Trout plans to resume outfield drills after the All-Star break, but there is no timetable for when he will return to right field, Thomas Murray of The Sporting Tribune reports.
Analysis: Trout has been a full-time designated hitter since he returned from a bone bruise on his right knee in late May, which is the same knee he had meniscus surgery on last season. The three-time MVP admits that he still feels "a little achy here and there," but he will ease back into outfield workouts, with the goal of eventually playing right field again sometime in the second half. With Trout limited to DH duty, Jorge Soler has served as the Angels' primary right fielder.
Rob Brantly
Rob Brantly Activated, DFA'd by Marlins
Mon, Jul 14, 2025, 8:27 PM
Brantly (lat/knee) was activated from the 60-day injured list and then designated for assignment Monday.
Analysis: Brantly was placed on the 15-day injured list April 21 due to a right lat strain, and he was later transferred to the 60-day IL to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. He'll head to waivers following Monday's transaction and would presumably report to Triple-A Jacksonville if he doesn't receive any interest.
Kevin Herget
Kevin Herget Becomes free agent
Mon, Jul 14, 2025, 8:20 PM
Herget elected free agency Sunday.
Analysis: Herget was DFA'd by Atlanta on Friday, and rather than accept an assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett, he'll test the open market. He appeared in two games this season across stops in Atlanta and New York, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out one across three innings.
