George Springer
George Springer X-rays negative
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 8:37 PM
X-rays on Springer's right knee came back negative after he was hit by a pitch Friday in Game 5 of the ALCS, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Springer exited Friday's contest immediately after getting plunked in the seventh inning. The fact that his imaging came back clean keeps the door open for his return at some point in the postseason, though it remains unclear whether he'll be able to play right away in Game 6 on Sunday. If he sits, Davis Schneider and Joey Loperfido would be candidates to start in Springer's place.

George Springer Exits after HBP
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 7:29 PM
Springer was removed from Game 5 of the ALCS against Seattle on Friday after getting hit on the right knee by a pitch, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Springer went down after taking a 95-mph sinker off his kneecap, and he was taken out of the game after being unable to make it to first base without a severe limp. The Blue Jays will presumably bring him in for X-rays to determine whether he suffered a fracture, at which point more will be known regarding his status for the remainder of the postseason.
Andrew Vaughn
Andrew Vaughn Sitting for Game 4
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 5:16 PM
Vaughn isn't in the lineup for Game 4 of the NLCS versus the Dodgers on Friday.
Analysis: Vaughn has gone 0-for-10 with a walk through the first three games of the series. Now one loss away from elimination, the Brewers will turn to Jake Bauers to start at first base in Vaughn's stead.
Jackson Chourio
Jackson Chourio In Game 4 lineup
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 5:11 PM
Chourio (hamstring) will start in left field and bat second in Game 4 of the NLCS against the Dodgers on Friday.
Analysis: Chourio aggravated his injured hamstring during the seventh inning of Game 3 on Thursday, but he is seemingly feeling well enough to remain in the starting nine Friday. The 21-year-old outfielder has been one of the few Brewers hitters to contribute consistently during the postseason, slashing .276/.290/.552 with two homers and eight RBI through 31 plate appearances.
Lars Nootbaar
Lars Nootbaar Has surgery on both heels
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 3:27 PM
Nootbaar underwent surgery Oct. 7 on both heels to shave down Haglund's deformities, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: It's unclear how long Nootbaar's heels have bothered him, and it's also uncertain how long his rehab is expected to take. Nootbaar finished with career highs in games played (135) and plate appearances (583) this season but posted a disappointing .234/.325/.361 batting line with 13 home runs.
Brendan Donovan
Brendan Donovan Undergoes sports hernia surgery
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 3:19 PM
Donovan underwent surgery Oct. 7 to repair a sports hernia, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Donovan had dealt with a nagging groin issue for much of the second half before eventually being shut down. Last week's operation should not affect his availability for the beginning of spring training, barring any setbacks. Donovan made his first All-Star team in 2025, finishing with a .287/.353/.422 batting line, 10 home runs and 32 doubles over 118 contests.
Trey Yesavage
Trey Yesavage Getting ball in ALCS Game 6
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:54 PM
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Friday that Yesavage will start Game 6 of the ALCS versus the Mariners on Sunday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Yesavage struggled in Game 2, alowing five runs on four hits and three walks over four innings. He had a dominant start against the Yankees in the ALDS, however, and will get an opportunity to bounce back Sunday. Depending on what happens in Game 5 on Friday, Yesavage's start Sunday will either be to help send the Blue Jays to the World Series or allow them to stave off elimination.
Ivan Herrera
Ivan Herrera Undergoes elbow surgery
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:30 PM
Herrera underwent surgery Wednesday to have bone spurs removed from his right elbow, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: It had been reported in September that Herrera would have offseason elbow surgery after his arm had bothered him for a couple years. The procedure is considered minor and is not expected to affect his offseason workouts or readiness for spring training. Herrera slashed .284/.373/.464with 19 home runs over 107 games for the Cardinals this season. He was a full-time designated hitter during the second half, but Herrera will prepare exclusively as a catcher this offseason.
Nate Pearson
Nate Pearson Inks one-year deal with Astros
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:21 PM
The Astros signed Pearson to a one-year, $1.35 million contract Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Pearson allowed 15 runs with a 7:10 K:BB over 14.2 innings during his time with the Cubs in 2025. He had better luck at Triple-A Iowa, collecting a 2.22 ERA and 57:24 K:BB across 44.2 frames. Pearson has worked almost exclusively as a reliever since 2021, but the Astros are expected to give the former top prospect a chance to be a starting pitcher. The 29-year-old does not have minor-league options remaining, so he'll likely be part of Houston's bullpen if he doesn't crack the Opening Day rotation.
Isaiah Campbell
Isaiah Campbell Cleared from 40-man roster
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:10 PM
The Red Sox outrighted Campbell to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.
Analysis: Campbell has been torched for 19 runs (18 earned) over 14.1 innings over the last two seasons during his brief time with the Red Sox. He's no longer on the 40-man roster but will remain in the organization for the time being.
Jose De Leon
Jose De Leon Outrighted to Triple-A
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:06 PM
The Red Sox outrighted De Leon to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.
Analysis: De Leon made one late-season appearance for the Red Sox but has lost his 40-man roster spot heading into the offseason. The right-hander has the ability to reject the assignment and become a free agent, but it's unclear what his plans are.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa
Isiah Kiner-Falefa Grabbing another start Friday
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:02 PM
Kiner-Falefa will start at second base and bat eighth in Friday's ALCS Game 5 against the Mariners.
Analysis: With Anthony Santander (back) removed from the ALCS roster ahead of Game 4, the Blue Jays have shifted Addison Barger to right field and Ernie Clement to third base while installing Kiner-Falefa at the keystone for the second straight contest. Kiner-Falefa went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in the Blue Jays' Game 4 victory.
Julio Rodriguez
Julio Rodriguez Elevated to leadoff spot for Game 5
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 1:58 PM
Rodriguez will start in center field and bat leadoff in Friday's ALCS Game 5 versus the Blue Jays.
Analysis: The Mariners tweaked their lineup in Game 4 and are shaking it up further for Game 5 after the Blue Jays evened the series Thursday. It's the first time since late July that Rodriguez has batted leadoff for Seattle. Randy Arozarena -- who had batted leadoff in every one of his starts since July 31 -- has been bumped down to the No. 5 spot.
Leo Rivas
Leo Rivas Another start at second base
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 1:50 PM
Rivas will start at second base and bat ninth in Friday's ALCS Game 5 versus the Blue Jays.
Analysis: For the second straight game, the Mariners are going with Rivas at second base, Jorge Polanco in the designated hitter spot and Dominic Canzone in right field, with Victor Robles retreating to the bench. Rivas went 0-for-2 with a walk in Thursday's Game 4 loss.
Jose Quintana
Jose Quintana Officially named Game 4 starter
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 1:15 PM
Quintana will start Friday's NLCS Game 4 against the Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Quintana became the obvious choice to take the ball in Game 4 after the Brewers opted to go with Aaron Ashby as the opener and Jacob Misiorowski as the bulk reliever in Game 3. The veteran lefty has made one appearance so far this postseason, tossing three scoreless innings in NLDS Game 3 versus the Cubs. He'll be tasked Friday with helping the Brewers stave off elimination.
Troy Melton
Troy Melton Projected to be in 2026 rotation
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 9:56 AM
Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris and manager A.J. Hinch said at their end-of-the-season press conference Monday that Melton will be a starting pitcher next season, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Melton bounced back-and-forth between the rotation and bullpen for the Tigers in 2025 both in the regular and postseason and was impressive in both roles, collecting a 2.76 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 36:15 K:BB over 45.2 regular-season frames. The 24-year-old has been a starting pitcher throughout the minors and held a 2.99 ERA and 101:20 K:BB across 75.1 innings between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo this season. Melton is currently projected to open the 2026 campaign in the Tigers' rotation.
Ben Rice
Ben Rice Viewed as primary first baseman
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 9:45 AM
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that he views Rice as the team's primary first baseman next season, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Rice split time between designated hitter (48 starts), first base (46 starts) and catcher (26 starts) in 2025, slashing .255/.337/.499 with 26 home runs across 530 regular-season plate appearances. Boone didn't rule out Rice serving as the team's No. 2 or No. 3 catcher in 2026, but most of the 26-year-old's playing time is expected to come at first base next season.
Otto Kemp
Otto Kemp Set for two sugeries
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 8:52 AM
Kemp will undergo surgery to repair a fracture in his left knee cap and an additional operation to clean out damage to his left shoulder, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Kemp chipped a piece of bone off his knee cap when he fouled a ball off the area on June 17, but he missed only one game and then played though the injury for the remainder of the season. He also evidently played with a shoulder issue, though it's unclear when he first injured the shoulder. Kemp slashed .234/.298/.411 with eight homers and two steals over 62 games in the majors in 2025 and posted a .987 OPS with 16 home runs and 13 stolen bases at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. It's not clear when Kemp's knee and shoulder surgeries will occur, nor is known how long his rehab will take. Gelb writes that the Phillies are "bullish" on Kemp and view him as "more than" a bench player, though it's uncertain where exactly he fits into the team's 2026 plans. Kemp made starts at third base, first base, second base and left field for the Phillies this season.
Nestor Cortes
Nestor Cortes Undergoes surgery
Thu, Oct 16, 2025, 9:11 PM
Cortes (biceps) underwent surgery to repair a tendon tear in his left arm Thursday and will be sidelined for 9-to-10 months, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Analysis: Cortes landed on the injured list Sept. 5 with a biceps injury. He was ramping up for a potential return through the end of the month, though he apparently suffered a setback or was rediagnosed. Cortes will now be set to miss most of the 2026 season.
Jackson Chourio

Thu, Oct 16, 2025, 7:25 PM
Chourio exited Thursday's game against the Dodgers after appearing to aggravate his hamstring injury, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Chourio took an apparently normal swing in the seventh inning, but he immediately came up hobbling. He was quickly removed from the game and was seen grabbing at his hamstring. Blake Perkins entered to replace him.
