Nick Gonzales
Nick Gonzales Blasts first homer
Sun, May 31, 2026, 11:21 PM
Gonzales went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and two runs scored Sunday against the Twins.
Analysis: Gonzales has hit for a relatively empty .303 batting average across 216 plate appearances this season, though he managed to end his home run drought with a two-run homer in the third inning. He still has only a .061 ISO on the campaign, though he has hit either fourth or fifth in Pittsburgh's order in seven of his last eight starts. Gonzales' playing time should also be solidified in the short term with Konnor Griffin (elbow) sidelined.
Ryan O'Hearn
Ryan O'Hearn Homers in return
Sun, May 31, 2026, 11:11 PM
O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Twins.
Analysis: O'Hearn was activated from the injured list Sunday after missing almost exactly two weeks with an oblique injury. He homered in his first plate appearance, tallying his eighth long ball of the season. O'Hearn batted cleanup in his return and should continue to occupy a key spot in the Pirates' lineup.
Expected to be called up Monday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 10:44 PM
Morris is expected to have his contract selected from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.
Analysis: Morris will join the major-league roster for the first time in his professional career. The 23-year-old has posted a 4.45 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 49 strikeouts over 60.2 innings in 11 starts with Las Vegas, and he may get a chance to start with the big-league club. Jacob Lopez is expected to be sent down to Triple-A on Monday to create a spot on the major-league roster, but the A's will also need to make another move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Morris.
Tyler Freeman
Tyler Freeman Logs three hits Sunday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 10:30 PM
Freeman went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, a stolen base and a walk in Sunday's 19-6 loss to the Giants.
Analysis: Freeman extended his hitting streak to six games with a three-hit performance, his first such effort of the campaign. In addition, the 27-year-old tallied his fifth stolen base of the season, his first swiped bag since May 8. With Mickey Moniak (ankle) and Jordan Beck (hamstring) sidelined, Freeman has seen steadier playing time in the outfield of late, starting in right field in seven of the past eight contests.
Casey Schmitt
Casey Schmitt Trio of hits in blowout win
Sun, May 31, 2026, 10:21 PM
Schmitt went 3-for-6 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 19-6 victory over the Rockies.
Analysis: Schmitt didn't show off any extra-base power but was still a positive contributor in the blowout win. In what has been a breakout season to date, the 27-year-old has now recorded three-plus hits in five contests and driven in multiple runs eight times in 2026. Overall, he's hitting .294/.332/.548 with 12 homers, 12 doubles, a triple, 33 RBI, 27 runs and five stolen bases across 51 games.
Nate Lavender
Nate Lavender Healthy again after elbow surgeries
Sun, May 31, 2026, 10:20 PM
Lavender (elbow) has posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB in eight innings over eight relief appearances for Triple-A Syracuse since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list May 9.
Analysis: Lavender didn't pitch at all during the 2025 season while completing his recovery from a May 2024 internal brace surgery and then another procedure this past summer to remove a bone spur in his left elbow. The 26-year-old was brought along slowly in spring training and opened the season on the shelf for Syracuse, but he was cleared to make his 2026 debut for the affiliate after completing a nine-appearance rehab assignment between Single-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn.
Rafael Devers
Rafael Devers Logs four hits Sunday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 10:15 PM
Devers went 4-for-6 with three doubles, an RBI, four runs scored and a walk in Sunday's 19-6 win over the Rockies.
Analysis: Devers was a hit machine in the blowout win, recording a season-high four knocks and his first three-double performance since 2019. After a lackluster start to the campaign, he'll close May slashing .306/.356/.593 with 20 extra-base hits (five homers), 19 RBI and 18 runs across 28 games during the month. The 29-year-old's overall .732 OPS in 59 games remains well below his career norms, though there's no doubt Devers is trending in the right direction as June arrives.
Bryce Eldridge
Bryce Eldridge Goes yard in four-hit effort
Sun, May 31, 2026, 10:04 PM
Eldridge went 4-for-6 with a solo homer, two doubles and three additional runs scored in Sunday's 19-6 win over the Rockies.
Analysis: Eldridge got in on the offensive onslaught, tallying a career-high four hits and blasting a 453-foot solo homer in the sixth inning, his second long ball of the campaign. The 21-year-old entered Sunday's contest hitting .192 with a .622 OPS, but those marks now sit at .241 and .776 across 67 plate appearances after his big performance. With Casey Schmitt seeing more action in left field of late, Eldridge has found himself in the lineup more regularly, starting at designated hitter in six straight games.
Kodai Senga
Kodai Senga Shaky in second rehab start
Sun, May 31, 2026, 10:02 PM
Senga (spine) struck out five and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over 3.2 innings in his rehab start Thursday with Triple-A Syracuse.
Analysis: After making a 3.1-inning, 63-pitch start for Single-A St. Lucie on May 22, Senga jumped up a few levels for the second outing of his rehab assignment. The 33-year-old was able to build up to 80 pitches Thursday and looks to be fully stretched out for a normal starter's workload at this point, but the Mets may want Senga to deliver better results in the minors before bringing him back from the 15-day injured list. Between the two rehab starts, Senga has posted a 5.14 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB over seven innings while also tossing two wild pitches and hitting a batter.
Jordan Wicks
Jordan Wicks Pulled in third inning
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:56 PM
Wicks (0-2) allowed three runs on four hits and struck out one without walking a batter over two-plus innings to take the loss versus the Cardinals on Sunday.
Analysis: Wicks threw 32 of 49 pitches for strikes. All four hits were singles, but he was pulled after running into trouble the second time through the order. The southpaw has given up 11 runs over 6.1 innings while posting a 6:1 K:BB across his two starts in the majors this season. Wicks may not be needed for another start if Edward Cabrera (finger blister) is ready to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible.
JJ Wetherholt
JJ Wetherholt Gets on base three times
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:52 PM
Wetherholt went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Cubs.
Analysis: Wetherholt has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games, going 14-for-44 (.318) with two steals, three RBI and three extra-base hits in that span. The infielder is now batting .250 with a .769 OPS, nine home runs, seven steals, 25 RBI and 39 runs scored across 56 contests this season. He continues to work out of the leadoff spot.
Jung Hoo Lee
Jung Hoo Lee Tallies five hits in blowout win
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:52 PM
Lee went 5-for-6 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's victory over the Rockies.
Analysis: Lee was an offensive machine in the blowout win, logging a career-high five hits. The outfielder returned from the injured list Friday after missing time with a back strain and has been nearly impossible to retire since, going 11-for-15 (.733) across the three-game series in Colorado. Overall, he's hitting .304 with a .774 OPS, 17 extra-base hits (three homers), 19 RBI and 24 runs through 51 games in 2026.
Nick Burdi
Nick Burdi Brings end to playing career
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:52 PM
Burdi retired from professional baseball May 5.
Analysis: Burdi signed a minor-league deal with the Mets in November and had appeared in five games with Triple-A Syracuse to begin the season before landing on the 7-day injured list April 14. The 33-year-old right-hander has a lengthy injury history, and rather than going through yet another rehab process, he opted to bring an end to his career. Burdi saw action in parts of six seasons in the big leagues from 2018 through 2025, accruing a 5.34 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 30.1 innings over 35 relief appearances across stops with the Pirates, Cubs, Yankees and Red Sox.
Hunter Dobbins
Hunter Dobbins Snags save in long-relief outing
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:50 PM
Dobbins allowed one run on four hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 3.2 innings to earn the save in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Cubs.
Analysis: Dobbins was called up from Triple-A Memphis earlier in the day. While it was initially a possibility that he'd join the Cardinals' rotation, this long-relief outing, which saw him throw 41 of 61 pitches for strikes, will likely prevent him from making a start any time soon. Dobbins has given up four runs with an 8:5 K:BB over eight innings in two major-league appearances this season. He's sporting a 3.43 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB across 44.2 innings as a starter for Memphis. At this time, it's unclear if Dobbins will remain in the majors -- he'll likely be unavailable for a few days, but he was able to give all of the Cardinals' other relievers a day off Sunday.
Matthew Liberatore
Matthew Liberatore Effective in third win
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:44 PM
Liberatora (3-3) allowed three hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.1 scoreless innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Sunday.
Analysis: Liberatore worked into the sixth inning for the first time in four starts. While he didn't rack up the same level of strikeouts as he had recently, he was able to end a stretch of three starts without a win while posting his first scoreless outing of the season. Liberatore is now at a 4.35 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 57:23 K:BB across 62 innings over 12 starts this season. The southpaw's next start is projected to be at home versus the Reds.
Willy Adames
Willy Adames Blasts grand slam
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:44 PM
Adames went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and a walk in Sunday's victory over the Rockies.
Analysis: Adames' three-hit effort was highlighted by a 108.8 mph grand slam that extended the Giants' lead in the fifth inning. After mustering just a .553 OPS across 25 games in April, the shortstop slashed .292/.325/.504 with 13 extra-base hits (five homers), 17 RBI, 16 runs and a stolen base over 28 contests in May. His season line now sits at .243/.281/.426 with 26 extra-base hits (eight homers), 23 RBI, 28 runs and a stolen base through 58 games.
Tanner Gordon
Tanner Gordon Allows four runs in first loss
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:33 PM
Gordon (0-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over three-plus innings against San Francisco. He struck out two.
Analysis: Gordon made his second start of the season and didn't fare as well as last time out, when he allowed one run across five innings. The right-hander was lifted at 75 pitches (48 strikes) without recording an out in the fourth inning after allowing a double to Bryce Eldridge and hitting Daniel Susac. Both runners came around to score after Brennan Bernardino relieved Gordon. Across nine appearances and 35.1 innings this season, the 28-year-old owns a 6.37 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 35:8 K:BB. If he remains in the rotation, Gordon is lined up to make his next start Saturday against Milwaukee.
Alex Bregman
Alex Bregman Pops fifth home run
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:28 PM
Bregman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Bregman provided all of Chicago's offense in the sixth inning with his fifth home run of the season and first since May 12. While the third baseman isn't providing a ton of power, he is now riding an 11-game hitting streak, and he's scored six runs during the stretch. Bregman hasn't yet fully lived up to his big offseason contract from the Cubs, but he's historically been a player who heats up down the stretch, so his best production could still be ahead of him in 2026.
Robbie Ray
Robbie Ray Lasts four innings Sunday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:22 PM
Ray did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks over four innings against the Rockies. He struck out six.
Analysis: Ray failed to qualify for the win after being pulled at 96 pitches (59 strikes). The southpaw was charged with two unearned runs in the fourth inning, with both runs scoring following his own throwing error. After a strong start to the season, he struggled in May, posting a 6.44 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 29.1 innings (six starts) during the month. With overall marks of a 3-6 record with a 4.45 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 59:31 K:BB across 62.2 innings (12 starts), Ray will look to get back in the win column in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Friday against the Cubs.
Nick Kurtz
Nick Kurtz Reaches base four times Sunday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:12 PM
Kurtz went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, a run scored and two walks in Sunday's 13-8 loss against the Yankees.
Analysis: Kurtz was unable to extend his home run streak to three games, but he reached base in four of five plate appearances, highlighted by an RBI double in the eighth inning. The first baseman will close May with a .333/.456/.569 slash line, 13 extra-base hits (five homers), 26 RBI, 21 runs and three stolen bases across 28 games during the month. His .939 OPS through 58 total games ranks fifth among qualified MLB hitters.
