Jesse Scholtens
Jesse Scholtens Tagged for five runs in loss
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 11:05 AM
Scholtens (1-1) took the loss Monday versus the Reds after allowing five runs on seven hits and no walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: After surrendering two runs during the opening frame, Scholtens settled down pretty well with just one run allowed over the next four innings, but he was unable to make it through the sixth and gave up two more runs on two hits and a hit-by-pitch. The right-hander entered Monday's contest with 9.2 scoreless frames though his first two outings of the campaign, so he should have a decent chance of sticking in Tampa Bay's banged-up rotation. Scholtens has a 2.93 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB through three appearances and tentatively lines up to pitch against the Twins this weekend.
Gavin Lux
Gavin Lux Ready to resume rehab assignment
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 9:59 AM
Lux (shoulder/ankle) is expected to resume his rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday or Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: After opening the season on the injured list due to a right shoulder impingement, Lux kicked off a rehab assignment with Durham on April 2 and slashed .103/.297/.172 with a 27 percent strikeout rate over nine games before being shut down after rolling his left ankle April 11. Lux has apparently made good progress following a week-and-a-half-long layoff and is ready to rejoin the Durham lineup, though he'll likely need to show some improvement at the plate before the Rays are ready to activate him from the IL. Tampa Bay has gotten by with a timeshare of Richie Palacios and Ben Williamson at second base through the first three-plus weeks of the season, but Lux should settle in as the primary option at the position once he's reinstated.
Joe Boyle
Joe Boyle Return not imminent
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 10:45 PM
Boyle (elbow) is playing catch from 90 feet, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The Rays are hopeful that the right-hander will be able to throw a bullpen session by the end of April. Boyle is on the 15-day injured list due to a right elbow strain, and he may need a minor-league rehab assignment before being cleared to rejoin Tampa Bay's rotation. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be available until sometime in May.
Jadher Areinamo
Jadher Areinamo Returns to health
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 6:49 PM
Areinamo (hamstring) is 4-for-18 with two home runs and three RBI in four games since being activated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.
Analysis: Areinamo was unable to see much action during spring training after picking up a hamstring injury, but he's put on a display of power since recovering from the hamstring issue. He's smacked a pair of home runs in four games after hitting four homers through 37 appearances at Double-A Montgomery a season ago.
Edwin Uceta
Edwin Uceta Shut down with new shoulder injury
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 3:27 PM
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Uceta will be shut down for 2-to-3 weeks after being diagnosed with a right shoulder strain, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Uceta began the season on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement, and he suffered a new shoulder injury during his last rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham on Wednesday. The righty reliever will need time to get built back up once he does resume throwing, so Uceta will be out for several more weeks even in a best-case scenario. He's a candidate to be moved to the 60-day IL when/if the Rays need to free up a spot on their 40-man roster.
Ryan Pepiot
Ryan Pepiot Not progressing as hoped
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 3:23 PM
Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Pepiot's injured right hip felt "unstable" while the pitcher played catch Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Pepiot suffered a setback with his right hip last week when he threw a bullpen session, which resulted in him being shifted to the 60-day injured list. He was given an injection and shut down for a few days, and it seems the hip issue is still lingering. It's unclear whether Pepiot will be shut down again, but clearly the righty isn't progressing as well as hoped. He won't be eligible to make his season debut with the Rays until late May.
Michael Grove
Michael Grove Shifted to 60-day injured list
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:16 PM
The Rays transferred Grove (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.
Analysis: The transaction frees up a 40-man roster spot for right-hander Trevor Martin, who was called up from Triple-A Durham. Grove was signed last week as he continues his recovery from right shoulder surgery, and it's unclear when he might be ready to pitch in a game.
Mason Englert
Mason Englert Sidelined by tight forearm
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:11 PM
The Rays placed Englert on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right forearm tightness.
Analysis: Englert had appeared in each of the Rays' last two games and was charged with one run over 2.1 frames in Sunday's loss to the Pirates. Though it's unclear whether Englert still needs to undergo imaging, manager Kevin Cash told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times that the right-hander's forearm injury isn't viewed as a long-term concern.
Jesse Scholtens
Jesse Scholtens Drawing start Monday
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 12:25 PM
Scholtens will be the Rays' starting pitcher in Monday's contest against the Reds, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Scholtens had been expected to take the ball Monday in some form, and the Rays have decided to deploy him as a traditional starter rather than a bulk reliever. The right-hander's first two appearances this season came in bulk relief, and he's fared well in tossing a combined 9.2 shutout innings with a 7:3 K:BB.
Garrett Cleavinger
Garrett Cleavinger Kicks off rehab assignment
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 4:53 PM
Cleavinger (calf) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Sunday, walking three and giving up a three-run home run in one-third of an inning.
Analysis: Cleavinger, who's recovering from right calf tightness, wasn't sharp at all in his first game action since March 30. The Rays will presumably want the southpaw to get a few rehab outings under his belt to knock off the rust before they consider reinstating him from the injured list, likely positioning Cleavinger for a return in late April if all goes well in the minors.
Shane McClanahan
Shane McClanahan Hit around in second loss
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 4:33 PM
McClanahan (1-2) took the loss Sunday against the Pirates, allowing four runs on eight hits and no walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: While he did keep the ball in the yard Sunday, McClanahan was touched up for a season-high eight knocks and a season-worst four runs allowed. It was encouraging to see the left-hander throw a season-high 90 pitches, but he's still yet to work past the fifth inning in any of his first four starts of 2026. Although he boasts an excellent .191 opponent batting average over 18 frames so far this year, McClanahan will be looking to improve upon his 5.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB his next time out versus the Twins.
Nick Fortes
Nick Fortes Idle again Sunday
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 11:19 AM
Fortes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Fortes will be on the bench for the second straight day while Hunter Feduccia receives another turn behind the plate. Despite his consecutive absences, Fortes still appears to be the Rays' preferred option at catcher, as he holds a 268-point edge in OPS over Feduccia on the season.
Jake Fraley
Jake Fraley Taking seat Sunday
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 11:15 AM
Fraley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Even with the Rays facing right-hander Mitch Keller in the series finale, Fraley will cede his spot in right field to Jonny DeLuca. Fraley has recorded hits in five of his last six starts but is still holding down a pedestrian .227/.292/.364 slash line over 48 plate appearances.
Ian Seymour
Ian Seymour Picks up fourth hold
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 11:15 PM
Seymour recorded a hold while allowing two hits and no walks in 1.2 scoreless innings of relief Saturday against Pittsburgh. He struck out three.
Analysis: Seymour is still recovering from a disastrous Opening Day outing, when surrendered five runs and failed to record an out. The left-hander logged hold No. 4 on the campaign Saturday and submitted his fourth scoreless appearance in his last six, but his ERA still stands at 8.68 and his WHIP at 1.50 across his first 9.1 innings.
Junior Caminero
Junior Caminero RBI double in win Saturday
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 10:34 PM
Caminero went 2-for-7 with an RBI double in Saturday's 8-7 extra-innings win over the Pirates.
Analysis: Paul Skenes was mowing down the Rays through four innings, but a rain delay of two hours and 27 minutes in the bottom of the fourth forced Skenes from the game. The Rays immediately scored five runs following the delay, as Caminero got the scoring started with an RBI double. Caminero has hit safely in seven of his last eight games and is now slashing .250/.344/.438 with four home runs, nine RBI, 10 runs scored and a 12:17 BB:K across 93 trips to the plate.
Cedric Mullins
Cedric Mullins Hits extra-innings homer in win
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 10:28 PM
Mullins went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and three RBI in Saturday's 8-7 extra-innings win over the Pirates.
Analysis: Mullins singled home Jonny DeLuca in the fifth inning and later delivered the eventual game-winning homer with a two-run shot to break a 6-6 tie in the top of the 13th. It was Mullins' second homer of the season. The veteran has had a rough go of things at the plate in his first season with the Rays, slashing .149/.205/.284 with just four extra-base hits, eight RBI, seven runs scored, three stolen bases and a 3:16 BB:K across 75 plate appearances.
Bryan Baker
Bryan Baker Blows save against Pittsburgh
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 10:21 PM
Baker was charged with a blown save Saturday against the Pirates, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts in one inning.
Analysis: With the heart of the order due up for the Pirates in the bottom of the eighth, manager Kevin Cash called on Baker to protect a 5-4 lead. He yielded a leadoff walk to Brandon Lowe and an infield singled to Ryan O'Hearn before Nick Yorke tied the game with a single. It was Baker's second blown save of the season, though he'd previously recorded four of the Rays' previous five saves out of the bullpen. Baker now owns a 4.32 ERA and 9:3 K:BB across 8.1 innings this season.
Drew Rasmussen
Drew Rasmussen Yields four runs in shortened start
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 10:15 PM
Rasmussen didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Pirates, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts across 3.2 innings.
Analysis: Rasmussen gave up a two-run homer to Ryan O'Hearn in the bottom of the first inning and later surrendered another two-run shot to Marcell Ozuna in the fourth. The game was then delayed by rain for two hours and 27 minutes, ending Rasmussen's day after 64 pitches. It was Rasmussen's first troublesome outing of the season after he'd yielded just two runs in 16 innings across his first three starts. Rasmussen now owns a 2.75 ERA and 20:3 K:BB across 19.2 innings. He should be well rested ahead of his next start Friday at home against the Twins.
Nick Fortes
Nick Fortes Sitting Saturday
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 12:57 PM
Fortes is not in the Rays' starting lineup against the Pirates on Saturday.
Analysis: Fortes will be on the bench for the beginning of Saturday's game while Hunter Feduccia starts behind home plate and bats eighth while catching pitches from Drew Rasmussen. Fortes has gone 4-for-11 (.364) with one RBI and one run scored over his last three starts and is slashing .321/.345/.453 over 55 plate appearances this season.
Yoendrys Gomez
Yoendrys Gomez Continues to struggle in 2026
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 10:52 PM
Gomez allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in two innings Friday against Pittsburgh. He struck out three.
Analysis: Gomez has now given up at least one run in five of his first six outings of 2026, turning in a lone scoreless appearance back during the Opening Day loss to St. Louis. Through his first 12.1 innings, the right-hander has a ghastly 7.30 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 9:7 K:BB and is likely to continue serving in mop-up duty and low-leverage spots.
