Junior Caminero
Junior Caminero Battling back tightness
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 8:30 PM
Caminero was removed from Wednesday's game against Toronto with mid-back tightness, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Analysis: Caminero had gone 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts before his back forced him to make an early exit during the seventh inning. The Rays are already labeling him as day-to-day, which suggests his injury isn't too serious, though they may give Tristan Gray or Richie Palacios a start at third base Thursday to give Caminero extra time to recover.
Jake Mangum
Jake Mangum Getting Wednesday off
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 3:59 PM
Mangum is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Mangum will take a seat Wednesday after he went 0-for-8 with a walk and a stolen base in the first two contests of the series. Chandler Simpson will shift over from left field to cover Mangum's usual spot in center.
Josh Lowe
Josh Lowe Taking seat Wednesday
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 3:57 PM
Lowe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Right-hander Kevin Gausman has been more effective against lefties than righties both this season and for his career, so the Rays will hold out Lowe and fellow left-handed hitter Brandon Lowe for Wednesday's contest. Everson Pereira will step in for Josh Lowe in right field and will bat sixth.
Brandon Lowe
Brandon Lowe Idle Wednesday
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 3:54 PM
Lowe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Right-hander Kevin Gausman has been more effective against lefties than righties both this season and for his career, so the Rays will hold out Lowe and fellow left-handed hitter Josh Lowe for Wednesday's contest. Tristan Gray will step in for Brandon Lowe at the keystone.
Bob Seymour
Bob Seymour Regaining strong-side platoon role
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 3:49 PM
Seymour will start at first base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Seymour appears to have re-emerged as the Rays' preferred option at first base, as he'll pick up his fourth start in Tampa Bay's last five matchups with right-handed pitchers. The rookie is still slashing a lowly .208/.236/.321 over 55 plate appearances in the majors this season and will be at risk of losing out on his strong-side platoon role if Jonathan Aranda (wrist) returns from the injured list next week.
Richie Palacios
Richie Palacios Losing hold of platoon role
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 3:47 PM
Palacios is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Palacios seemed to have taken hold of a strong-side platoon role upon his return from the 60-day injured list Sept. 1, but he's now been out of the lineup for three straight matchups with right-handed pitchers. The Rays will go with Bob Seymour at first base for the second day in a row.
Hunter Feduccia
Hunter Feduccia Sitting again Wednesday
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 3:44 PM
Feduccia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Feduccia is on the bench for the third time in four games and for the second time in three matchups with a right-handed starting pitcher (Kevin Gausman). Nick Fortes appears to have at least moved into a timeshare with Feduccia, if he hasn't already overtaken him as the Rays' preferred option behind the plate.
Christopher Morel
Christopher Morel Cleared to start Wednesday
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 3:41 PM
Morel (abdomen) will start in left field and bat cleanup Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Morel is back in the starting nine for the first time since Sunday, when he exited the Rays' 4-3 loss to the Cubs early due to an abdominal contusion. He drew a walk in a pinch-hit appearance in Tuesday's 6-5 loss and will now check back into the lineup to make a rare start against a right-handed pitcher (Kevin Gausman).
Taylor Walls
Taylor Walls Shifts to 60-day IL
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 10:44 AM
The Rays transferred Walls (sports hernia) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Analysis: Manager Kevin Cash had already announced earlier this month that Walls would be shut down for the season after requiring sports hernia surgery, so the infielder's move to the 60-day IL was merely a formality. The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Cole Wilcox, who was called up from Triple-A Durham.
Joey Gerber
Joey Gerber Dispatched to minors
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 10:44 AM
The Rays optioned Gerber to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Analysis: Gerber pitched well in two relief outings for the Rays, allowing one run with a 4:0 K:BB across 4.1 frames. He's being replaced by a fresh bullpen arm, as the Rays have summoned Cole Wilcox from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move.
Brandon Lowe
Brandon Lowe Homers, drives in four
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 9:56 PM
Lowe went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's loss to Toronto.
Analysis: Lowe put the Rays on the board with a three-run shot in the third inning and later added an RBI single in the ninth. He snapped a 13-game homerless drought, during which he posted a .503 OPS with 23 punchouts. Lowe now owns a .258/.309/.476 slash line with 29 home runs and 79 RBI through 127 games.
Ryan Pepiot
Ryan Pepiot Takes loss in short outing
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 9:40 PM
Pepiot (11-11) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks over 1.2 innings Tuesday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Pepiot missed his last scheduled start due to fatigue and clearly didn't have his best stuff Tuesday. He gave up a run in the first inning before Toronto plated three in the second. He tied his shortest outing of the year by recording only five outs, and his season ERA jumped from 3.59 to 3.77. On a positive note, his fastball sat at 95.5 mph, up slightly from his season average of 95.1 mph. Pepiot entered Tuesday on a 15-inning scoreless streak, but he hasn't produced a quality start since July 27. He's currently projected to face the Red Sox at home this weekend.
Richie Palacios
Richie Palacios Out of lineup again Tuesday
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 2:55 PM
Palacios is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Blue Jays.
Analysis: After starting four times during a five-game stretch, Palacios has now been absent from the lineup for three consecutive contests. The Rays have Bob Seymour handling first base Tuesday.
Carson Williams
Carson Williams Not in Rays' lineup
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 2:52 PM
Williams is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Williams had started each of the previous six games, but he'll begin Tuesday's festivities on the bench. Tristan Gray will play shortstop and bat seventh for the Rays.
Jake Mangum
Jake Mangum Swipes 25th base
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 9:55 PM
Mangum went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 2-1 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays.
Analysis: The Tampa Bay outfielder nabbed second off Toronto reliever Jeff Hoffman in the ninth to become the third Rays player to reach the 25-steal mark this season (following Jose Caballero and Chandler Simpson). Since the All-Star break, Mangum has been a regular in the lineup, playing roughly 85 percent of the time (45 out of the team's 53 games) and hitting .273 (41-for-150) with 12 stolen bases, 13 runs scored and eight RBI. Overall, he is now slashing .295/.332/.363 with 36 runs scored and 36 RBI in 387 plate appearances.
Joe Boyle
Joe Boyle Quality start in return
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 9:38 PM
Boyle took a no-decision in Monday's 2-1 extra-innings loss to Toronto, allowing three hits and no walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: Boyle was recalled from Triple-A Durham for this start and posted arguably the best performance of his three-year career against the division-leading Blue Jays. The right-handed flamethrower generated a respectable 11 whiffs out of his 78 total pitches to notch his first quality start of the season. Across 42.2 total frames, Boyle now sports a 4.64 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 44:21 K:BB. If he remains in the rotation, his next start would line up to either come against Boston at home this weekend or on the road at Baltimore early next week.
Hunter Bigge
Hunter Bigge Officially ruled out for season
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 5:49 PM
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Bigge (lat/face) will not return this season but is slated to pitch in winter ball, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Bigge initially went on the 15-day injured list back in early May with a right lat strain, but he then suffered multiple facial fractures in late June when he was struck by a ball in the dugout, an incident which eventually led to him being transferred to the 60-day IL. The righty has resumed mound work and will pitch in winter ball to make up for lost time.
Mason Englert
Mason Englert Throwing bullpen session
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 5:46 PM
Englert (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Englert landed on the 15-day injured list earlier this month with a right shoulder impingement, but he would appear to have a shot to make it back before the end of the season. The righty has pitched well for the Rays when healthy, collecting a 3.83 ERA and 44:11 K:BB over 44.2 innings.
Jonathan Aranda
Jonathan Aranda Facing live pitching this weekend
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 5:34 PM
Aranda (wrist) will face live pitching this weekend at the Rays' spring training complex in Florida, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Aranda has been ramping up his baseball activities, and if things go well, the 27-year-old could be activated from the 10-day injured list during the final week of the season. He's been sidelined since late July with a fractured left wrist.
Richie Palacios
Richie Palacios Excluded from starting nine
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 3:55 PM
Palacios is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Palacios will take a seat for the second day in a row, this time against a right-handed starter (Trey Yesavage) after he was withheld from the starting nine Sunday against lefty Shota Imanaga. Since returning from the 60-day injured list Sept. 1, Palacios has gone 4-for-21 with three walks. That modest level of production may prompt the Rays to view Palacios as more of a part-time option rather than a locked-in strong-side platoon player.
