Pedro Pages Retreating to bench in Game 1
Sat, May 23, 2026, 11:06 AM
Pages isn't in the lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Reds.
Analysis: Pages went 3-for-7 with a walk and a run scored during St. Louis' last series against Pittsburgh, but he'll stay put in the dugout to begin Saturday's festivities. Ivan Herrera will handle catching duties in Game 1 while Nolan Gorman works as the DH and Cesar Prieto starts at third base.
Back on IL at High-A
Fri, May 22, 2026, 2:15 PM
Peete (undisclosed) was placed on the 7-day injured list at High-A Peoria on Friday.
Analysis: Peete just returned from a week-long absence Wednesday and lasted only one game before going back on the IL. It's unclear whether this is an aggravation of his previous injury or something new. Peete was acquired from the Mariners over the offseason in the Brendan Donovan trade.
Kyle Leahy
Kyle Leahy Cardinals-Reds rained out
Fri, May 22, 2026, 1:26 PM
Leahy will have his start pushed back after Friday's contest against the Reds was postponed due to inclement weather.
Analysis: The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday, and Leahy will draw a start in one of those tilts. He's collected a 3.94 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 34:20 K:BB through 45.2 innings this season in his transition into the Cardinals' rotation.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Lands on IL with shoulder strain
Fri, May 22, 2026, 11:53 AM
The Cardinals placed Church on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left shoulder strain.
Analysis: Church had to be scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Pirates because he was "just a little beat up," per manager Oliver Marmol. While it's now known that the injury is focused on his shoulder, it's unclear how long Church might be out. Lars Nootbaar (heels) is due back June 1, so Church could see a dip in playing time when he does return to the active roster.
Bryan Torres
Bryan Torres Recalled to big leagues
Fri, May 22, 2026, 11:47 AM
The Cardinals recalled Torres from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.
Analysis: Torres is receiving his first-ever big-league promotion a little more than a month shy of his 29th birthday. He's posted excellent numbers in the Cardinals' minor-league system the last three years, including a .336/.454/.477 batting line with two homers, 10 steals and a 29:25 BB:K in 2026. Capable of handling all three outfield spots and also second base, Torres could see some action in left field while Nathan Church (shoulder) is out.
Ivan Herrera
Ivan Herrera Launches sixth homer
Fri, May 22, 2026, 6:40 AM
Herrera went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the Pirates.
Analysis: Herrera got St. Louis on the board in the third inning with a two-out shot off Braxton Ashcraft, giving the catcher/DH his sixth homer of the year and his second in three games. Herrera has swung the bat well of late, going 16-for-51 with an .804 OPS over his last 12 contests. Overall, he's slashing .262/.386/.426 with 24 RBI and 28 runs scored across 223 plate appearances this season.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Could be headed for IL
Thu, May 21, 2026, 7:18 PM
Church (lower body) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: Church was scratched from the lineup Thursday against the Pirates because he was "just a little beat up," according to manager Oliver Marmol. The outfielder appears to be dealing with something significant enough to require him to be sidelined moving forward, but it's currently unclear what exactly he's being hampered by. Outfielder Bryan Torres is expected to be called up from Triple-A Memphis on Friday in a corresponding move.

Bryan Torres Expected to be called up Friday
Thu, May 21, 2026, 7:10 PM
Torres is expected to be called up from Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: Torres will join the major-league roster for the first time in his career, helping fill the void of Nathan Church (lower body), who is set to be placed on the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's series opener in Cincinnati. Torres has posted a .336 average with two home runs, 16 RBI, 24 runs scored and 10 stolen bases over 128 at-bats in 36 contests with Memphis so far this year, and he'll look to keep it up with the Cardinals.
Back in action at High-A
Thu, May 21, 2026, 4:04 PM
Peete (undisclosed) was activated from the 7-day injured list at High-A Peoria on Wednesday.
Analysis: Peete needed just a minimum 7-day absence while nursing an undisclosed injury. The 20-year-old outfielder is sporting a .272/.350/.528 batting line with five home runs, five stolen bases and a 15:44 BB:K over 29 contests with Peoria this season.
Dustin May
Dustin May Falls to Pittsburgh
Thu, May 21, 2026, 3:04 PM
May (3-5) took the loss Thursday against the Pirates, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: May held Pittsburgh to two runs through his first five innings but he'd run into trouble in the sixth, where four straight Pirates would reach safely with one out, ultimately resulting in two more runs. Prior to Thursday, May had delivered quality starts in four straight outings. His ERA now sits at an even 5.00 with a 1.43 WHIP and 42:17 K:BB across 54 innings. May is currently lined up to face the Brewers on the road his next time out.
Justin Bruihl
Justin Bruihl Impressive out of bullpen
Thu, May 21, 2026, 11:14 AM
Bruihl threw two scoreless innings while striking out two batters in a 7-0 loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Analysis: Bruihl entered the game for St. Louis in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and the Cardinals trailing 2-0. The 28-year-old got out of the jam and proceeded to strike out Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz in the top of the seventh. Bruihl has allowed just one earned run over his past seven appearances (6.1 innings) as he continues to fill a middle-relief role.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Nursing general soreness
Thu, May 21, 2026, 11:04 AM
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that Church was scratched from Thursday's lineup versus the Pirates because he's "just a little beat up," Brenden Schaeffer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Church was removed from a game earlier this month after being hit on the left leg by a pitcher, though it's unclear whether this is related to that. Marmol indicated he would prefer to stay away from using Church off the bench Thursday, but the outfielder should be ready to play this weekend in Cincinnati. Jose Fermin is drawing a start in left field Thursday in Church's place.

Nathan Church Scratched from lineup
Thu, May 21, 2026, 10:14 AM
Church (undisclosed) was scratched from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Pirates.
Analysis: There's no word yet on the reasoning behind Church being pulled from the lineup, but the Cardinals should provide clarity soon. Jose Fermin will handle left field and bat seventh for St. Louis.
Ramon Urias
Ramon Urias Taking dry swings this week
Thu, May 21, 2026, 9:15 AM
Urias (elbow) will begin taking dry swings this week, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Urias' recovery from tennis elbow is coming along slowly but surely. He will continue building up his hitting progression and is expected to be sidelined several more weeks. Urias put up a .595 OPS with a pair of home runs in his first 25 games for the Cardinals before getting hurt.
Lars Nootbaar
Lars Nootbaar Aiming for June 1 return
Thu, May 21, 2026, 8:59 AM
The Cardinals are eyeing June 1 as a target date for Nootbaar's (heels) activation from the 60-day injured list, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Nootbaar homered in his first rehab game with Single-A Palm Beach last week and has since moved up to Triple-A Memphis, going 2-for-6 with a 1:2 BB:K over three contests between the two stops. He's played left field twice and served as a designated hitter once, and Nootbaar is projected to be the Cardinals' everyday left fielder when he rejoins the active roster. The 28-year-old is working his way back from double heel surgery.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Returns after one-game absence
Wed, May 20, 2026, 2:16 PM
Winn (knee) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Wednesday's contest against the Pirates.
Analysis: Winn had to sit out Tuesday's contest with a left knee injury, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in the second game of the series after an MRI came back negative. The Gold Glove shortstop enters play Tuesday having slashed just .230/.298/.297 across his last 20 tilts.
Pedro Pages
Pedro Pages Heading to bench Wednesday
Wed, May 20, 2026, 2:12 PM
Pages is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Analysis: He'll take a seat to open up a turn behind the plate for Ivan Herrera, who typically serves as the personal catcher for Wednesday's starting pitcher, Michael McGreevy. Pages had started at catcher in three of the Cardinals' previous four tilts.
Breaking through at Single-A
Wed, May 20, 2026, 10:40 AM
Odle boasts a 1.80 ERA and 43:14 K:BB over his first 30 innings this season with Single-A Palm Beach.
Analysis: Over his last three starts, the 22-year-old has permitted just one run with a 23:5 K:BB over 15 frames. Odle induced 16 whiffs on 77 pitches and peaked at 99.6 mph in his last outing Tuesday. Though he's a bit old for the Florida State League and is sporting a 10.9 percent walk rate, Odle has big stuff and looks to be putting it all together in 2026. The right-hander should be promoted to High-A Peoria soon.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn MRI on knee is negative
Wed, May 20, 2026, 10:23 AM
Winn is considered day-to-day after an MRI on his left knee came back negative, Amber Winkler of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Winn tweaked his knee in Sunday's loss to the Royals and did not play in Tuesday's series opener against the Pirates. He will be able to "play as tolerated," Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Tuesday, which could mean a return to action as soon as Wednesday. Cesar Prieto got a start at shortstop Tuesday in Winn's stead.
Ivan Herrera
Ivan Herrera Slugs walk-off homer
Tue, May 19, 2026, 11:24 PM
Herrera went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run Tuesday in a 9-6 extra-inning win against the Pirates.
Analysis: Herrera was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts when he stepped up to the plate with runners on the corners and no outs in the bottom of the 10th inning. He fell behind in the count 0-2 before clubbing a curveball over the outfield wall for a walk-off home run. Herrera extended his hitting streak to seven games with the blast, and he's batting .267 (8-for-30) with five RBI and four runs over that span.
