JJ Wetherholt
JJ Wetherholt Scores three runs in win
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 10:38 PM
Wetherholt went 1-for-3 with a walk, hit-by-pitch and three runs scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Wetherholt reached base three times and came around to score on all three occurrences. The rookie second baseman has struggled to hit for extra bases early on this season, as he has just one double and three home runs, but Wetherholt is getting on base atop the St. Louis lineup. He's slashing .232/.368/.377 with nine RBI, 16 runs scored, four stolen bases and a 13:14 BB:K across his first 87 career plate appearances.
Alec Burleson
Alec Burleson Reaches three times in win
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 10:31 PM
Burleson went 2-for-4 with a double, walk and one run scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Burleson singled in the first inning, walked in the third and doubled and scored in the seventh. After seeing his average dip all the way to .216 after an 0-for-4 day on April 6, Burleson has five multi-hit games in his last nine contests and is 13-for-35 (.371) in that span. On the season, Burleson is slashing .292/.388/.431 with two homers, 14 RBI, eight runs scored, one stolen base and a 12:9 BB:K across 85 plate appearances.
Nolan Gorman
Nolan Gorman Swats three-run homer Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 10:24 PM
Gorman went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 9-4 win over the Astros.
Analysis: After striking out in each of his first three at-bats Friday, Gorman turned on a 96 mph fastball from Bryan Abreu and sent it over the right-field wall for a three-run shot to open the Cardinals' lead to 7-3 in the top of the seventh inning. An all-or-nothing type at the plate, Gorman's unlikely to hit for average or get on base at a high enough clip to warrant fantasy appeal. He's slashing .207/.284/.362 with three home runs, 12 RBI, seven runs scored and a 7:22 BB:K across 67 plate appearances.
Ivan Herrera
Ivan Herrera Homers, drives in three Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 10:19 PM
Herrera went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, hit-by-pitch, three RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Herrera padded the Cardinals' lead to 9-3 with a two-run shot in the top of the eighth. It was Herrera's first multi-hit game of the season, and he's now homered in two of the past three games after failing to hit a long ball in any of St. Louis' first 16 contests. Herrera's on-base skills have remained strong this season, and his bat seems to be heating up, with at least one hit in six of the last eight games. Herrera is slashing .212/.398/.348 with two homers, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and an 18:10 BB:K across 88 trips to the plate.
Kyle Leahy
Kyle Leahy Strikes out six in second win
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 10:12 PM
Leahy (2-2) picked up the win Friday against the Astros, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks with six strikeouts across five innings.
Analysis: Leahy served up a pair of solo homers in the third inning and loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but he was able to strike out both Christian Vazquez and Isaac Paredes to escape further damage. He then allowed another solo shot in the fifth. Leahy's transition from reliever in 2025 to a starter this season has yielded subpar results, as he now owns a 5.21 ERA and subpar 13:8 K:BB through 19 innings. He doesn't possess swing-and-miss stuff and therefore doesn't carry much, if any, fantasy upside. Leahy's next start should come next week in Miami.
Richard Fitts
Richard Fitts Undergoes season-ending lat surgery
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 3:52 PM
Fitts has undergone season-ending surgery on his right lat, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Fitts was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Memphis earlier this week with a lat strain, and testing revealed the need for surgery. Cardinals president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom said Friday that the long-term prognosis for Fitts is good, but the operation will cost him the rest of 2026 and it's possible he also gets a late start to the 2027 campaign. Fitts was acquired from the Red Sox over the offseason in the Sonny Gray trade and had posted a 1.76 ERA and 11:6 K:BB over 15.1 innings at Memphis.
Jared Shuster
Jared Shuster Outrighted to Triple-A
Thu, Apr 16, 2026, 1:02 PM
The Cardinals outrighted Shuster to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.
Analysis: Having been outrighted previously, Shuster has the ability to decline the assignment and become a free agent. For now, it appears he will stick around in the organization as swingman depth.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Provides spark in Wednesday's win
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 5:57 PM
Church went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Guardians.
Analysis: He also made an impact defensively, recording an outfield assist as Kyle Manzardo was thrown out at home plate in the fourth inning after a George Valera double got over Church's head. The steal was Church's first of the season -- part of a 4-for-4 performance on the basepaths by the Cardinals against the battery of Slade Cecconi and Bo Naylor -- and the multi-hit effort was his first since Opening Day. Despite the big afternoon, however, the 25-year-old Church is slashing just .205/.238/.308 through 16 games on the season.
Riley O'Brien
Riley O'Brien Collects save No. 5
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 5:51 PM
O'Brien struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Guardians.
Analysis: The flame-throwing right-hander topped out at 99.7 mph with his two-seamer as he fanned Angel Martinez and Rhys Hoskins en route to converting his fifth straight save chance to begin the season. The back of the Cardinals' bullpen seemed unsettled to begin the season, but O'Brien has quickly locked down the closing gig while posting a 0.39 WHIP and 11:0 K:BB with just one unearned run allowed through his first 10.1 innings.
Dustin May
Dustin May Stingy in second win
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 5:48 PM
May (2-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 5-3 victory over the Guardians, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: The right-hander was far from dominant, managing a paltry two swinging strikes among his 91 pitches (59 total strikes), but May limited the damage in his second straight quality start and second straight win. It's a remarkable turnaround from his first two outings of 2026 -- in which he surrendered a combined 13 runs -- but his margin for error seems very thin without missing more bats. May will take a 6.98 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB through 19.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Miami.
Thomas Saggese
Thomas Saggese On bench vs. RHP on Wednesday
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 10:45 AM
Saggese is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: Saggese will hit the bench for a second straight matchup versus a right-handed pitcher (Slade Cecconi) while the Cardinals give Nathan Church a spin in left field. After putting together a recent five-game hit streak in which he went 7-for-16, Saggese has gone hitless with five strikeouts in 10 at-bats over the Cardinals' last three contests.
Hunter Dobbins
Hunter Dobbins Drawing third rehab start Tuesday
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 11:57 AM
Dobbins (knee) will make the third start of his rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Memphis.
Analysis: Dobbins reached five innings in both of his prior two starts with Memphis and produced a 3.48 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB across 10.1 frames in total between the outings. After Wednesday, the right-hander should be stretched out enough to handle a typical starter's workload, but it's unclear if St. Louis will have an opening for him in its rotation. Andre Pallante owns a 5.40 ERA and 1.60 WHIP through his three starts and would seem to be most at risk of moving to the bullpen if the Cardinals decide to shake up their rotation to make room for Dobbins once he's activated from the injured list.
Jordan Walker
Jordan Walker Homers yet again Monday
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 11:06 PM
Walker went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run in Monday's loss to the Guardians.
Analysis: Walker's blast was a shot to left-center field in the sixth inning. The blossoming outfielder has gone deep in three straight games and in seven of his past nine contests. He's batting a sizzling .405 over that latter span with seven homers, 12 RBI, eight runs and a stolen base. Walker certain seems to be in the midst of a breakout campaign, as he currently leads MLB with eight homers and ranks seventh with 15 RBI.
Matthew Liberatore
Matthew Liberatore Inefficient in first loss
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 10:51 PM
Liberatore (0-1) allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over five innings in a loss to Cleveland on Monday.
Analysis: Liberatore gave up a solo homer to the second batter he faced in the game and surrendered three more runs in the fourth inning. He needed 105 pitches, only 61 of which were strikes, to get through five frames. Liberatore also continued to struggle to put batters away, as he's now notched exactly two strikeouts in three of his four starts this season. The southpaw gave up just one run in each of his first two outings but has given up exactly four runs in each of his past two starts. On the season, he has a 4.29 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 12:8 K:BB through 21 innings.
Thomas Saggese
Thomas Saggese Taking seat Monday
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 3:44 PM
Saggese is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: Nathan Church will replace Saggese in the starting nine after the 24-year-old had been included in the lineup in nine of the previous 10 contests while seeing time at three different positions. Saggese owns a .614 OPS on the season, but he slashed .350/.381/.450 over his last six games.
Matt Pushard
Matt Pushard Cleared for rehab assignment
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 3:15 PM
Pushard (knee) will head to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: Pushed tossed a 20-pitch bullpen session Sunday and came out of it with no issues, clearing the way for him to pitch in rehab games. The rookie reliever is working his way back from right knee patellar tendinitis.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Returns to St. Louis lineup
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 2:48 PM
Winn (shin) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Monday's game versus the Guardians.
Analysis: Winn missed each of the previous two contests with a bruised shin, but he's made enough improvement to step back into the lineup for Monday's series opener. The slick-fielding shortstop has yet to get on track offensively this season, having registered a .154/.298/.205 batting line with no home runs, two steals and a 6:8 BB:K.
Jared Shuster
Jared Shuster Scrubbed from 40-man roster
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 2:30 PM
The Cardinals designated Shuster for assignment Monday.
Analysis: Shuster made a couple mop-up appearances for St. Louis, allowing two runs with a 1:2 K:BB over 3.2 innings. The lefty has been outrighted previously, so if he passes through waivers -- which seems likely -- Shuster would have the ability to elect free agency.
Ryan Fernandez
Ryan Fernandez Joins major-league bullpen
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 2:28 PM
The Cardinals recalled Fernandez from Triple-A Memphis on Monday.
Analysis: Fernandez has tossed 5.2 scoreless frames with a 6:2 K:BB in the early going at Memphis. The righty reliever battled through a disastrous 2025 season in St. Louis -- holding a 7.71 ERA over 32 outings -- and will be used in low-leverage situations with the Cardinals.
Richard Fitts
Richard Fitts Out with lat strain at Triple-A
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 11:46 AM
Triple-A Memphis placed Fitts on its 7-day injured list Monday due to a right lat strain.
Analysis: Fitts had gotten off to a nice start with Memphis this season, collecting a 1.76 ERA and 11:6 K:BB over 15.1 innings covering his first three outings. He likely would have been the first pitcher to get the call when the Cardinals needed help in the big-league rotation, but now that opportunity could fall to Hunter Dobbins (knee). Fitts is likely to be sidelined several weeks and perhaps longer, depending on the severity of the strain.
