Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Regular treatment for back issues
Thu, Apr 23, 2026, 9:00 AM
Winn "continues to undergo preventative care" for a lower-back issue, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Winn spent some time on the injured list last season with back spasms, and he's also missed time this year with hip and shin issues. The shortstop isn't currently hurt, but the Cardinals "are seeking ways for him to reduce mileage," which could mean more days off like he had Wednesday in Miami. Winn got off to a slow start offensively this season but has been superb lately, slashing .387/.429/.645 during an eight-game hitting streak.
Ivan Herrera
Ivan Herrera Swats third homer
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 2:52 PM
Herrera went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Marlins.
Analysis: The 25-year-old spoiled Miami's combined shutout bid by taking Lake Bachar deep in the ninth inning. Herrera's bat is heating up -- he's hit safely in eight of the last 10 games, batting .263 (10-for-38) with all three of his long balls on the season along with six RBI and seven runs. He needs one more game played at catcher to reach 10 and gain eligibility at the position in common fantasy formats. That could happen as soon as Friday with Andre Pallante taking the mound versus Seattle, with Herrera having caught his four previous starts this year.
Kyle Leahy
Kyle Leahy Sunk by Marlins
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 2:46 PM
Leahy (2-3) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on eight hits and three walks over five innings as the Cardinals fell 4-1 to the Marlins. He struck out two.
Analysis: All eight hits off the right-hander were singles as Miami batters played small ball, but Leahy also helped create some of his own problems as he walked home a run in the second inning. He exited the mound after 89 pitches (50 strikes) and has failed to finish six frames in his first five starts of the year. Leahy will take a 5.63 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB through 24 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Pittsburgh.
Hunter Dobbins
Hunter Dobbins In line to serve as sixth starter
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 2:08 PM
The Cardinals are likely to insert Dobbins (knee) as part of a six-man rotation during their stretch of 17 games without an off day that begins Friday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Coming back from last year's ACL surgery, Dobbins is slated to make a fifth rehab start with Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. That would put him in line to make his Cardinals debut as soon as April 30 in Pittsburgh, and he appears likely to receive multiple turns as the club looks to keep their rotation members rested. Acquired over the offseason from the Red Sox in the Willson Contreras trade, Dobbins holds a 3.86 ERA and 16:4 K:BB over 18.2 frames covering his first four rehab outings with Memphis.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Flashes skills in Tuesday's win
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:54 AM
Church went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Marlins.
Analysis: The fourth-inning long ball off Chris Paddack was Church's second homer of the season, while the steal was his third. The 25-year-old outfielder has yet to get a start against a left-handed pitcher this season, muting his fantasy appeal in shallower formats, but Church may break out of a strong-side platoon role if he continues to heat up. Over his last five games, he's gone 7-for-17 (.412) with a double, a homer, three RBI, four runs and all three of his stolen bases on the year.
Riley O'Brien
Riley O'Brien Notches seventh save
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:49 AM
O'Brien gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his seventh save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Marlins.
Analysis: The right-hander topped 100 mph three times in 17 pitches (11 strikes) as he converted his seventh save in eight chances to begin the season. O'Brien also has three wins and two holds in his 13 appearances, but he's seized control of the closer job for the Cardinals with a dominant start to 2026, posting a 0.00 ERA, 0.45 WHIP and 15:0 K:BB over 13.1 innings.
Jordan Walker
Jordan Walker Grabbing day off Wednesday
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:47 AM
Walker is absent from the lineup for Wednesday game in Miami.
Analysis: He'll receive a day off after seeing his 15-game hitting streak come to an end in Tuesday's win over the Marlins. Nathan Church will play right field and bat sixth for the Cardinals in Walker's stead.
Dustin May
Dustin May Sharp in Tuesday's win
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:46 AM
May (3-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over 5.1 innings in a 5-3 victory over the Marlins. He struck out five.
Analysis: The right-hander served up a solo shot to Jakob Marsee to lead off the bottom of the first inning, but May cruised from there, eventually getting lifted after 97 pitches (59 strikes). He saw his quality start streak end at two, but after a shaky beginning to his St. Louis tenure he's delivered a 1.56 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB over 17.1 innings in his last three trips to the mound. May will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Pittsburgh.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Receiving breather for day game
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:40 AM
Winn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
Analysis: With Winn having recently recovered from left shin bruise that kept him out of the lineup for two contests, he'll get a breather Wednesday as the Cardinals wrap up their series in Miami with a day game after a night game. Thomas Saggese will fill in for Winn at shortstop and will bat seventh.
Alec Burleson
Alec Burleson Day off Wednesday
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:38 AM
Burleson is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Miami.
Analysis: It's a rare day off for Burleson, who had started each of the previous nine games. The Cardinals will turn to Ramon Urias at first base and in the cleanup spot in Wednesday's rubber match.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Stays hot in loss to Marlins
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 11:06 AM
Winn went 2-for-3 with a triple, a sacrifice fly and a stolen base in Monday's loss to the Marlins.
Analysis: After homering and driving in a total of seven runs in the weekend series in Houston, Winn stayed hot at the plate in Monday's series opener in Miami. The 24-year-old entered the Astros series having slashed just .188/.339/.250 with one RBI in his first 14 contests of the season, but Winn has suddenly found his rhythm at the dish.
Michael McGreevy
Michael McGreevy Falters late in loss to Marlins
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 10:59 AM
McGreevy (1-2) took the loss Monday in Miami, yielding four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 frames. He struck out three.
Analysis: McGreevy was cruising early, retiring the first 10 batters of the game. Then, seven of the final 14 batters he faced reached base, with four of them scoring. McGreevy's velocity was up slightly across the board in this one, but the 91.4 mph he averaged on his four-seamer is still well below last year's 93 mph mark. He's managed a 3.29 ERA and 0.92 WHIP through his first five starts this season, but McGreevy's strikeout rate is down even lower than last year's at 14.3 percent. He's lined up to face the Mariners at home Sunday in his next outing.
Pedro Pages
Pedro Pages Idle Monday
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:59 PM
Pages is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.
Analysis: After starting behind the dish in three of the last four games, Pages will hit the bench for the series opener in Miami. Ivan Herrera will handle catching duties for St. Louis.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Retreating to bench
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:23 PM
Church is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest in Miami.
Analysis: Church had started each of the last four games, but he will begin Monday's series opener on the bench. The Cardinals will go with Thomas Saggese in left field and in the No. 8 spot in the batting order.
Gordon Graceffo
Gordon Graceffo Grabs one-out save
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 10:35 AM
Graceffo notched a one-out save in Sunday's extra-inning victory over the Astros.
Analysis: Graceffo came on in relief of Justin Bruihl and was tasked with protecting a three-run lead with a pair of runners on. He yielded an RBI single to Jose Altuve to let one inherited runner score but then induced a fielder's choice to end it. Cardinals closer Riley O'Brien had already pitched in the game and was credited with a win. Graceffo has managed a 0.84 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in his first 10.2 frames since being promoted in late March, but a 6:6 K:BB isn't very encouraging. Additional save chances for Graceffo are unlikely, as he's often been used for multiple innings in the middle of games.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Plays hero Sunday
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 6:44 PM
Winn went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Astros.
Analysis: Winn posted his first three-hit effort of the season, highlighted by what proved to be a game-winning bases-clearing double in the top of the 10th inning. The shortstop is in the midst of a six-game hit streak and has driven in seven runs across his past three contests. For the year, he's slashing .222/.338/.333 with one homer, eight RBI, nine runs scored and two steals across 74 plate appearances.
Riley O'Brien
Riley O'Brien Blows save, earns win Sunday
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 6:37 PM
O'Brien (3-0) blew a save despite not being charged with a run and earned the win in Sunday's 7-5 extra-inning victory over the Astros. He allowed one hit and struck out two.
Analysis: O'Brien entered with two outs and two men on in the eighth inning and allowed a game-tying single before rebounding with a scoreless ninth frame. It goes down as his first blown save of the season, but he has still to be charged with an earned run in 12 appearances. The 31-year-old is also 6-for-7 in save chances with a 0.41 WHIP and 14:0 K:BB across 12.1 innings.
Matthew Liberatore
Matthew Liberatore Posts quality start in no-decision
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 6:28 PM
Liberatore did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Astros, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts over four innings.
Analysis: Liberatore allowed a run in the third inning but was otherwise strong, needing just 82 pitches to complete his second quality start of the season. Through five outings, the southpaw has yielded one earned run three times and four earned runs twice. He'll carry a 3.67 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB across 27 innings into a home matchup against the Mariners next weekend.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Regains foothold in everyday lineup
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 1:01 PM
Church will start in left field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Church made just one start last week, but he appears to have taken back control of a regular spot in the outfield when St. Louis faces right-handed pitching. He'll pick up his fourth straight start after going 5-for-11 with a double, a walk, two stolen bases, two runs and an RBI over the previous three games.
Thomas Saggese
Thomas Saggese Playing time drying up
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 12:59 PM
Saggese is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Saggese is on the bench for the fourth game in a row and appears to have lost his grip on a regular spot in the lineup while mustering a weak .533 OPS across 47 plate appearances. Nathan Church has leapfrogged him on the depth chart after going 5-for-11 with a double, a walk, two stolen bases, two runs and an RBI over the last three contests.
