Jose Fermin
Jose Fermin Homer, steal in loss
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 10:45 PM
Fermin went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, a stolen base and three total runs scored in Wednesday's 9-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Fermin stayed in the lineup for a second straight game as the Cardinals faced a left-handed pitcher. While his playing time has remained limited to short-side platoon duties most of the time, Fermin has done well in June. He's batting .364 (16-for-44) over 15 games this month, a span that includes all three of his steals this year. The utility man is hitting .277 with a .730 OPS, three homers, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and five doubles over 122 plate appearances this season, but he has no path to a more prominent role yet.
Matthew Liberatore
Matthew Liberatore Unravels in fourth inning
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 10:40 PM
Liberatore (3-5) allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Analysis: Liberatore got through three innings with little trouble, but Arizona piled on six runs in the fourth. He allowed back-to-back home runs to LuJames Groover and Ketel Marte to cap that rally. Liberatore's decent start to the year has fallen apart in June -- he's allowed 22 runs (18 earned) across 15.2 innings over his four starts this month. He's now at a 5.56 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 70:29 K:BB through 77.2 innings through 16 starts overall. The southpaw is tentatively projected to make his next start at Atlanta, which is not a matchup that would much bounce-back potential.
Jimmy Crooks
Jimmy Crooks Idle against lefty
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 5:40 PM
Crooks is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Arizona is sending its second lefty starter (Mitch Bratt) to the hill in as many days, and the left-handed-hitting Crooks has been left on the bench on both occasions. St. Louis will go with Pedro Pages as their starting catcher in place of Crooks.
Alec Burleson
Alec Burleson On bench against lefty
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 5:39 PM
Burleson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Burleson started against Arizona lefty Eduardo Rodriguez in Tuesday's 4-3 loss, but the first baseman will retreat to the bench Wednesday while the Diamondbacks send a second straight lefty (Mitch Bratt) to the bump. Blaze Jordan will take Burleson's spot in the field and will bat eighth.
Bryan Torres
Bryan Torres Scratched from Wednesday's lineup
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 4:32 PM
Torres was scratched from Wednesday's matchup against the Diamondbacks for unspecified reasons.
Analysis: Torres was slated to bat eighth and start at second base for Wednesday's affair against Arizona before being scratched. St. Louis has yet to announce the reasoning for the change. though it may have simply been to get starting shortstop Masyn Winn (thumb) back in the lineup.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Late addition to lineup
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 4:21 PM
Winn (thumb) will start at shortstop and bat sixth Wednesday against Arizona.
Analysis: Winn sat out Tuesday's contest due to thumb soreness and was originally set to miss another start Wednesday, but he'll now return to the lineup after checking out fine before the game. The 24-year-old has recorded a hit in each of his last seven games, going 11-for-28 (.393) with a homer, five RBI and six runs scored during that stretch.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Out of lineup again versus lefty
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 3:49 PM
Church is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Church has now been on the bench each of the last three times the Cardinals have faced a southpaw. Lars Nootbaar will shift over to center field Wednesday, and Nelson Velazquez will cover left field.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Held out again Wednesday
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 3:27 PM
Winn (thumb) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Winn had to be scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to left thumb irritation and will miss a second straight start. He had imaging on the thumb Tuesday, but there's no word yet on the results. JJ Wetherholt will again fill in at shortstop, while Bryan Torres will sub in at second base for the Cardinals.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Awaiting imaging results on thumb
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 11:31 AM
Winn is awaiting the results of imaging taken of his injured left thumb, Amber Winkler of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Winn had to be scratched from Tuesday's lineup versus the Diamondbacks because of left thumb irritation. The move was considered precautionary, but Winn was sent for an MRI just in case. The Cardinals should have more on his status later Wednesday. If Winn is forced to miss additional time, JJ Wetherholt could slide over to shortstop, and a combination of Bryan Torres and Jose Fermin could fill in at second base.
Alec Burleson
Alec Burleson Enters Tuesday's lineup
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 5:22 PM
Burleson will start at first base and bat seventh Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Burleson was originally in line to receive a day off Tuesday with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound for Arizona, but Masyn Winn's thumb injury will put Burleson back in the starting nine. The 27-year-old owns a career-best .847 OPS on the season through 330 plate appearances, though that number plummets to just .463 when he's matched up against a southpaw.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Scratched due to thumb issue
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 3:47 PM
Winn was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks due to left thumb soreness, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: It's unclear when exactly Winn sustained the injury, as he's in the midst of a seven-game hit streak during which he has gone 11-for-28 (.393 average) with two doubles and a homer. The 24-year-old should be considered day-to-day as he continues to be evaluated.
Nolan Gorman
Nolan Gorman Reports to Triple-A Memphis
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 3:31 PM
Gorman has been assigned to Triple-A Memphis after spending the past week at the Cardinals' spring training complex in Florida to rework his swing, Jim Hayes of Cardinals.TV reports.
Analysis: Gorman worked with hitting director Dalton Hurd and minor-league hitting coordinator Brock Hammit on a flatter attack angle with his swing. The hope is that it will allow Gorman -- who is hitting .194/.279/.318 with a 32.3 percent strikeout rate this season -- to make more contact, and he is ready to test things out at the Cardinals' top minor-league affiliate.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Not in starting lineup
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 2:33 PM
Church is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: The left-swinging Church will exit the lineup while the Diamondbacks go with southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez on the bump. Lars Nootbaar is shifting over to center field for the Cardinals, and Nelson Velazquez will grab a start in left field.
Alec Burleson
Alec Burleson Getting breather versus lefty
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 2:30 PM
Burleson is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: With southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez toeing the rubber for Arizona, the left-handed-hitting Burleson will receive a rare day off. Blaze Jordan will move to first base, and Jose Fermin is getting a start at third base for the Cardinals.
Riley O'Brien
Riley O'Brien Secures 19th save
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 3:15 AM
O'Brien picked up the save in Monday's 3-2 victory over the Diamondbacks. He did not record a strikeout during a perfect ninth inning.
Analysis: O'Brien made quick work of the Diamondbacks, retiring the side to secure the victory. The right-hander has had an uneven June, allowing runs in three of eight appearances while recording more walks (seven) than strikeouts (six) across eight innings. Overall, the 31-year-old owns a 4.05 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB while converting 19 of 23 save opportunities. Among National League relievers, only Mason Miller (21) has more saves than O'Brien this season.
Andre Pallante
Andre Pallante Logs six innings in ninth win
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 2:56 AM
Pallante (9-4) earned the win Monday, allowing one run on six hits and no walks over six innings against Arizona. He struck out two.
Analysis: Pallante's winning ways continued Monday, as he kept the Arizona offense quiet to earn his fourth straight victory. His two strikeouts matched a season low, though the right-hander has never relied on swing-and-miss stuff and instead thrives by generating groundballs. The 27-year-old owns a 3.59 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 64:25 K:BB across 82.2 innings (15 starts) and is tentatively scheduled to face Miami on Saturday.
Ivan Herrera
Ivan Herrera Slaps 10th home run
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 3:25 AM
Herrera went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, a hit-by-pitch and three runs scored in Sunday's 12-10 win over the Royals.
Analysis: Herrera collected a pair of singles and delivered a three-run homer in the fifth inning off Steven Cruz for his 10th home run of the season. The catcher has been one of St. Louis' hottest hitters recently, batting .333 with a 1.134 OPS over his last 12 games. Herrera's season-long splits have been notable, as he has found considerably more success away from Busch Stadium, slashing .311/.463/.481 on the road compared to .221/.345/.379 at home.
JJ Wetherholt
JJ Wetherholt Blasts two homers in slugfest win
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 3:02 AM
Wetherholt went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored and a hit-by-pitch in Sunday's 12-10 win over the Royals.
Analysis: Wetherholt wasted no time making an impact Sunday, taking the third pitch of the game from Stephen Kolek over the fence for a leadoff homer. He wasn't finished there, adding another long ball against Kolek in the second inning as part of a massive offensive outburst by St. Louis. The performance marked the second multi-homer game of his young career and pushed his season total to 12 home runs. The rookie has been swinging a hot bat throughout June, hitting .333 over 15 games while continuing to provide production across multiple categories. On the season, Wetherholt is slashing .268/.370/.428 with eight doubles, 12 homers, 34 RBI, 49 runs scored and eight stolen bases across 71 games.
Dustin May
Dustin May Knocked around in short start
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 2:41 AM
May did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Royals, allowing six runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two over two innings.
Analysis: May endured his shortest outing of the season Sunday, tossing 44 pitches to complete two innings before being lifted. The right-hander allowed two runs in the first inning and further unraveled in the second, serving up a pair of two-run homers to Nick Loftin and Jac Caglianone. Despite the early damage, May surprisingly exited with the lead thanks to St. Louis erupting for nine runs over the first two innings. The outing was a stark contrast from his recent form, as he entered Sunday coming off back-to-back scoreless starts, including a one-hit shutout in his previous appearance. May will take a 4.30 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 77:22 K:BB to face Miami at home in his next scheduled start.
Matt Svanson
Matt Svanson Rediscovering 2025 form
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 9:49 AM
Svanson has yielded just one hit and has a 6:1 K:BB over eight scoreless innings since being recalled from Triple-A Memphis.
Analysis: Svanson was optioned to Memphis in May after posting an 8.77 ERA and 26:15 K:BB over 25.2 innings. He tossed 5.2 scoreless frames at the Cardinals' top minor-league affiliate and has carried that momentum over in his return to the majors. Svanson has been used mostly in low-leverage situations since being recalled, but with the way he's pitched he could move back up in the bullpen hierarchy.
