JJ Wetherholt
JJ Wetherholt Playing through lower-half soreness
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 9:01 AM
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Wetherholt has been playing with some lower-half soreness but is expected back in the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Wetherholt didn't play in Wednesday's win over the Rangers in part so that he could have consecutive days of rest when combined with Thursday's team off day. Barring something unforeseen, the rookie second baseman will be back in the leadoff spot for the Cardinals in Friday's series opener versus Cincinnati.
Jordan Walker
Jordan Walker Records three hits Wednesday
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 8:58 AM
Walker went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Walker extended his home-run drought to nine games, a stretch in which he's hitting .229 with a .479 OPS, but this three-hit performance will certainly boost his confidence at the plate. Despite the slump, Walker remains one of the most dangerous hitters in the Cardinals lineup. He's hitting .291 with a .355 on-base percentage and .892 OPS through 59 games.
Riley O'Brien
Riley O'Brien Nabs 15th save of season
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 8:54 AM
O'Brien clinched his 15th save of the season in Wednesday's win over the Rangers. He tossed a scoreless ninth inning with one walk.
Analysis: O'Brien walked Kyle Higashioka to start the ninth inning, but he retired Michael Helman, Joc Pederson and Josh Jung to close out the door on a potential Rangers comeback. O'Brien is now 15-for-19 in save chances in 2026 while posting a 3.95 ERA and 29:6 K:BB across 27.1 innings in 27 appearances. He should continue to operate as St. Louis' go-to option in the ninth inning until further notice.
Andre Pallante
Andre Pallante One out shy of quality start
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 8:51 AM
Pallante (6-4) earned the win Wednesday against the Rangers after allowing one run on three hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out five while also hitting a batter and tossing a wild pitch.
Analysis: Pallante was just one out away from recording what would've been his third quality start over his last four appearances. The 27-year-old right-hander had some command issues, as evidenced by his third wild pitch of the season, but he continues to deliver results. Over his last four starts, Pallante owns a 2.95 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP across 21.1 innings. He's scheduled to make his next start on the road against the Mets next week.
JJ Wetherholt
JJ Wetherholt Getting breather Wednesday
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 3:30 PM
Wetherholt is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: It's a rare off day for Wetherholt, who has now started 57 of 60 games for the Cardinals this season. Thomas Saggese will fill in at second base, and Masyn Winn will be elevated to the leadoff spot as St. Louis tries to avoid a series sweep.
Ramon Urias
Ramon Urias Nearing rehab assignment
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 9:04 AM
Urias (elbow) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis as soon as this weekend, Derrick Goold and Amber Winkler of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.
Analysis: Urias is nearly ready for game action after being sidelined for the past month with right elbow lateral epicondylitis. The veteran infielder should be ready to rejoin the Cardinals' roster by mid-June, and Urias might see an uptick in playing time, given Nolan Gorman's struggles.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Slated for rehab games
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 8:59 AM
Church (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Derrick Goold and Amber Winkler of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.
Analysis: Church has been upping his activity level of late and now a rehab stint has been scheduled. He's missed less than two weeks with a left shoulder strain, so Church's rehab assignment should not be a lengthy one.
Dustin May
Dustin May Racks up nine K's vs. Rangers
Tue, Jun 2, 2026, 10:43 PM
May did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Rangers, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out nine over 5.2 innings.
Analysis: After carrying a no-hitter into the eighth inning in his last start, May came out dominant again Tuesday -- piling up eight strikeouts through the first four innings. The right-hander was one out away from another quality start before Alejandro Osuna delivered a go-ahead RBI knock in the sixth inning, forcing his exit. May has still not recorded a win since April 21 and he now owns a 4.59 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 60:19 K:BB across 66.2 innings. He's slated to face the Mets in his next start.
Tink Hence
Tink Hence Returning to Triple-A
Tue, Jun 2, 2026, 6:27 PM
Hence returned to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: Hence was sent out to the Cardinals' complex in Florida in late April to work on his mechanics after allowing eight earned runs in just 8.1 innings to begin the year at Triple-A. Although he never played a game in the FCL, the Cardinals are seemingly pleased with his progress and will now rejoin the Redbirds. The 23-year-old righty owns a 40-man roster spot, so if he bounces back nicely at Memphis, he could be called up for his MLB debut at some point this season.
Ramon Urias
Ramon Urias Taking batting practice, throwing
Tue, Jun 2, 2026, 8:52 AM
Urias (elbow) has resumed taking batting practice and is going through a throwing program, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Urias has been shelved for nearly a month with tennis elbow, but he's making some strides in his recovery. There's no word yet on when he might be ready for a rehab assignment, but it shouldn't be far off.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Begins throwing, taking BP
Tue, Jun 2, 2026, 8:49 AM
Church (shoulder) has begun a throwing program and has been taking batting practice, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Church has been sidelined for nearly two weeks while dealing with a left shoulder strain. He will likely need a rehab assignment before activation from the 10-day injured list and appears close to being game-ready. With Lars Nootbaar (heels) expected to return before him, Church's best chance at playing time once he makes it back could be unseating Victor Scott in center field.
Michael McGreevy
Michael McGreevy Hurls quality start but takes loss
Mon, Jun 1, 2026, 11:12 PM
McGreevy (3-5) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one batter over six innings in a loss to Texas on Monday.
Analysis: McGreevy began by tossing three scoreless innings before the Rangers scored one run in each of the fourth and fifth frames. Those were enough to hold up, as the Cardinals' offense managed just one run of support. As usual, McGreevy didn't miss many bats -- he had just six whiffs and one punchout -- but he nonetheless managed his seventh quality start of the campaign. Despite a paltry 6.0 K/9 and 3-5 record, the right-hander is having a solid season, posting a 2.98 ERA and 1.10 WHIP through 66.1 innings spanning 12 starts.
Lars Nootbaar
Lars Nootbaar Lined up for activation Friday
Mon, Jun 1, 2026, 8:49 AM
Nootbaar (heels) "appears targeted" to be activated from the 60-day injured list before the start of Friday's series against the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: A previous report indicated that the Cardinals were aiming for June 1 for Nootbaar's season debut, but it seems he will remain on his rehab assignment a bit longer. The 28-year-old has looked good in his first 10 rehab games spread across three affiliates, slashing .259/.412/.519 with two home runs and a 7:4 BB:K. Nootbaar is working his way back from offseason double heel surgery.
JJ Wetherholt
JJ Wetherholt Gets on base three times
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:52 PM
Wetherholt went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Cubs.
Analysis: Wetherholt has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games, going 14-for-44 (.318) with two steals, three RBI and three extra-base hits in that span. The infielder is now batting .250 with a .769 OPS, nine home runs, seven steals, 25 RBI and 39 runs scored across 56 contests this season. He continues to work out of the leadoff spot.
Hunter Dobbins
Hunter Dobbins Snags save in long-relief outing
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:50 PM
Dobbins allowed one run on four hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 3.2 innings to earn the save in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Cubs.
Analysis: Dobbins was called up from Triple-A Memphis earlier in the day. While it was initially a possibility that he'd join the Cardinals' rotation, this long-relief outing, which saw him throw 41 of 61 pitches for strikes, will likely prevent him from making a start any time soon. Dobbins has given up four runs with an 8:5 K:BB over eight innings in two major-league appearances this season. He's sporting a 3.43 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB across 44.2 innings as a starter for Memphis. At this time, it's unclear if Dobbins will remain in the majors -- he'll likely be unavailable for a few days, but he was able to give all of the Cardinals' other relievers a day off Sunday.
Matthew Liberatore
Matthew Liberatore Effective in third win
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:44 PM
Liberatora (3-3) allowed three hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.1 scoreless innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Sunday.
Analysis: Liberatore worked into the sixth inning for the first time in four starts. While he didn't rack up the same level of strikeouts as he had recently, he was able to end a stretch of three starts without a win while posting his first scoreless outing of the season. Liberatore is now at a 4.35 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 57:23 K:BB across 62 innings over 12 starts this season. The southpaw's next start is projected to be at home versus the Reds.
Victor Scott II
Victor Scott II Receiving night off
Sun, May 31, 2026, 3:40 PM
Scott is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: The Cardinals will give Scott a breather for the series finale after the speedster had been included in the starting nine in each of the past 15 games. Jose Fermin will get the nod in center field in place of Scott, who should continue to see the bulk of the starts at the position while Nathan Church (shoulder) is stuck on the injured list.
Bryan Torres
Bryan Torres Hitting bench against lefty
Sun, May 31, 2026, 3:30 PM
Torres is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Torres will retreat to the bench for the second time in the series, with both of his absences coming against left-handed starters. Nelson Velazquez will step in as the Cardinals' starting left fielder in place of Torres, who has gone 6-for-22 with a home run, three RBI and a 2:3 BB:K through his first six big-league games since being called up from Triple-A Memphis on May 22.
Jimmy Crooks
Jimmy Crooks Sitting against lefty Sunday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 3:28 PM
Crooks is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: Though Crooks is expected to settle in as the Cardinals' primary catcher, he ended up making just one start during the club's three-game series with the Cubs after being called up from Triple-A Memphis on Friday. Both of the left-handed-hitting backstop's absences have come versus lefties, with Ivan Herrera and Pedro Pages both receiving one start apiece behind the plate in place of Crooks.
Matt Pushard
Matt Pushard Loses 40-man roster spot
Sun, May 31, 2026, 3:24 PM
The Cardinals designated Pushard for assignment Sunday.
Analysis: Since Pushard was selected in the Rule 5 Draft over the winter, the Cardinals will have to offer him back to the Marlins if he ends up clearing waivers. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 5.14 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 6:4 K:BB in seven innings over six appearances out of the St. Louis bullpen and hadn't been used since being reinstated from the 15-day injured list May 16.
