Alec Burleson
Alec Burleson Tallies season-high three RBI
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 9:29 PM
Burleson went 3-for-4 with a three RBI, a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Nationals.
Analysis: It was the second three-hit effort of the season already for Burleson, who recorded a season-high three RBI. With Willson Contreras, Brendan Donovan and Nolan Arenado all with new clubs for 2026, Burleson has hit third in the lineup each of St. Louis' first 12 games. Overall, Burleson is hitting .273 with one homer, two doubles, 10 RBI and one stolen base over 44 at-bats.
Michael McGreevy
Michael McGreevy Six innings of one-run ball in win
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 6:01 PM
McGreevy (1-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Nationals, allowing one run on four hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out one.
Analysis: McGreevy hardly boasted dominant stuff -- he posted just five whiffs en route fanning a lone batter -- but he kept the Washington bats guessing all afternoon. The right-hander induced a whopping 11 groundouts, also scattering four singles for his second start of the year of six innings with one run or zero allowed. McGreevey owns a promising 2.16 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB across 16.2 innings, and he has a fairly soft matchup against Cleveland slated for his next outing.
Pedro Pages
Pedro Pages Resting Wednesday
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 2:29 PM
Pages is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Washington.
Analysis: Pages will get a breather for the afternoon game after starting behind the plate in three of the Cardinals' previous four contests. Ivan Herrera will handle catching duties in the series finale.
Victor Scott II
Victor Scott II Receives day off Wednesday
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 11:47 AM
Scott is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Nationals.
Analysis: Scott will get his first day off of the season after stealing a couple of bases but doing little else offensively through the Cardinals' first 11 games, slashing .265/.265/.294 with a 0:10 BB:K. Nathan Church will grab a start in center field and bat ninth.
Jordan Walker
Jordan Walker Power surge continues
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 8:51 AM
Walker went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Nationals.
Analysis: The 23-year-old slugger took PJ Poulin deep for a solo shot in the seventh inning, kicking off a late Cardinals rally from a 5-2 deficit. It's the third homer in the last four games for Walker, a stretch in which he's racked up seven hits and eight RBI as he begins to convert his potential into real production. Through 11 contests to begin the season he's slashing .300/.364/.650 two doubles, four homers, nine runs, 11 RBI and a steal.
Riley O'Brien
Riley O'Brien Secures third save
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 8:47 AM
O'Brien allowed an unearned run while striking out two in the 10th inning Tuesday to record his third save of the season in a 7-6 win over the Nationals.
Analysis: The right-hander couldn't stop the phantom runner from coming around to score on a groundout and a wild pitch, but O'Brien fanned CJ Abrams and Nasim Nunez to lock down the victory. He's now picked up the Cardinals' last three saves and is emerging as the top option in the bullpen, with JoJo Romero and Ryne Stanek in setup roles. Through six appearances this season, O'Brien has a 0.00 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 7:0 K:BB in 6.1 innings, adding a win and two holds to his ledger.
Matthew Liberatore
Matthew Liberatore Escapes with no-decision Tuesday
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 8:43 AM
Liberatore didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Nationals, giving up four runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: The southpaw was tagged for homers by James Wood in the third inning and Curtis Mead in the fifth and exited the game with the Cardinals in a 4-2 hole, but the offense bailed him out late. Liberatore tossed 59 of 92 pitches for strikes and has lasted at least five innings in all three of his starts to begin the year, posting a 3.38 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB over 16 frames. He'll look for his first win of 2026 in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Guardians.
Jordan Walker
Jordan Walker Settling in as cleanup hitter
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 3:00 PM
Walker will start in right field and bat cleanup in Tuesday's contest against the Nationals.
Analysis: It's the third consecutive start in the cleanup spot for Walker, and all three of them have been versus right-handers. The last two of the games have come with former cleanup man Masyn Winn in the lineup, so it appears Walker is now Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol's go-to cleanup hitter. Walker slugged his third home run of the season in Monday's loss to the Nationals and is slashing .314/.385/.629 in his first 10 contests this season. He also ranks in the 99th percentile in hard-hit rate and 94th percentile in barrel rate.
Thomas Saggese
Thomas Saggese Making sixth straight start
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 2:55 PM
Saggese will start in left field and bat seventh in Tuesday's game versus the Nationals.
Analysis: It's the sixth straight start overall and second consecutive start in left field against a righty for the right-handed-batting Saggese. Saggese -- who turns 24 on Friday -- has yet to do much at the plate this season but reached base three times in Monday's series opener.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Out of lineup again versus righty
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 2:51 PM
Church is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Nationals.
Analysis: It marks the second time in a row that the left-handed-hitting Church has been out of the lineup versus a righty. Church tallied three base knocks on Opening Day but has gone hitless over 23 plate appearances since then. Thomas Saggese is in left field again Tuesday and looks to have leap-frogged Church in the pecking order.
Ivan Herrera
Ivan Herrera Catching McGreevy and Pallante
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 9:57 AM
Herrera has served as the personal catcher for Michael McGreevy and Andre Pallante and is expected to continue doing so at least through the end of April, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The goal in having Herrera attached to two specific starters allows the Cardinals to simplify his game-planning duties and also ease his catching burden following offseason elbow surgery and a spring training knee issue. Additionally, with Herrera catching the team's two best groundball pitchers, it frees up the designated-hitter spot for Nolan Gorman and third base for a better defender in Ramon Urias. The Cardinals have been pleased with Herrera's work at catcher so far, as well as the health of his knee. If those things continue trending in a positive direction, Herrera will eventually take on additional catching responsibilities. If McGreevy and Pallante remain on the same schedule, Herrera should reach 10 games at catcher on April 24, which is the in-season eligibility threshold on most fantasy platforms.
Ramon Urias
Ramon Urias Swats second homer
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 10:27 PM
Urias went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Monday's loss to the Nationals.
Analysis: It was the second homer of the season for Urias, totaled a season-high three RBI on Monday. The infielder is still likely to see most of his playing time versus left-handers going forward despite drawing a start against right-hander Zack Littell, as JJ Wetherholt and Nolan Gorman figure to see the bulk of the reps at second and third base, respectively, in 2026.
Andre Pallante
Andre Pallante Lacks control in no-decision
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 10:15 PM
Pallante didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: After throwing five scoreless innings against the Mets in his season debut, Pallante ran into some tougher sledding Monday. While he did hold the Nationals to just three knocks, the right-hander walked at least four batters for the ninth time in his career. The 27-year-old right-hander boasts a 1.80 ERA through 10 innings so far, but his 5:7 K:BB is a far greater concern heading into his next scheduled outing versus the Red Sox.
Jose Fermin
Jose Fermin Scratched from Monday's lineup
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 5:05 PM
Fermin has been scratched from the Cardinals' lineup against the Nationals on Monday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Fermin was initially slated to start in left field and bat eighth. However, Masyn Winn (hip) has been cleared to return from a two-game absence, so the Cardinals have elected to shift Thomas Saggese from shortstop to left field while moving Fermin to the bench. Fermin has appeared in just two regular-season games in 2026, with his lone start taking place Friday against the Tigers.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Playing Monday after all
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 5:01 PM
Winn (hip) is starting at shortstop and batting sixth against the Nationals on Monday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: Winn was initially slated to miss a third consecutive game, but he has made enough progress in his recovery from a left hip injury to be back in action for Monday's contest. With Winn back in the Cardinals' lineup, Thomas Saggese will shift from shortstop to left field while Jose Fermin moves to the bench.
Nathan Church
Nathan Church Sitting against right-hander
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 2:22 PM
Church is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.
Analysis: Right-hander Zack Littell is taking the ball for the Nationals, marking the first time in eight games versus righties this season that the left-handed-hitting Church has been out of the lineup. Jose Fermin will handle left field and bat eighth for the Cardinals. Church is just 3-for-26 with a 1:8 BB:K at the dish this season.
Pedro Pages
Pedro Pages Not starting Monday
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 2:20 PM
Pages is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Nationals.
Analysis: Pages will begin the contest on the bench as Ivan Herrera gets a start at catcher. The 27-year-old Pages has drawn starts in six of 10 games thus far and appeared off the bench in one additional contest.
Masyn Winn
Masyn Winn Remains out of lineup
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 2:16 PM
Winn (hip) remains out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Nationals.
Analysis: Winn will miss out on a third straight start after he exited Friday's game in Detroit due to left hip tightness. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Winn remains day-to-day, but he's set to go through a full pregame workout to determine his availability off the bench, per Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat. Thomas Saggese will draw another start at shortstop in Winn's place.
Riley O'Brien
Riley O'Brien Locks down 2nd save
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 2:24 AM
O'Brien (2) earned the save Sunday against the Tigers, striking out one over a perfect ninth inning.
Analysis: Entering the ninth with a two-run lead, O'Brien was efficient in closing this one out. The 31-year-old retired the heart of Detroit's order on just 13 pitches to secure his second save of the season. The right-hander has yet to allow a run through his first five appearances (5.1 innings), an encouraging sign after he blew three of nine save opportunities in 2025. Ryne Stanek handled a hitless eighth inning, but it now appears O'Brien has taken control of the main closer role after opening the season still ramping up from his calf injury from the spring.
Nick Raquet
Nick Raquet DFA'd by St. Louis
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 4:05 PM
The Cardinals designated Raquet for assignment Sunday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: The left-hander was unable to earn a place on St. Louis' Opening Day roster, and he's now been jettisoned from the 40-man roster after making two relief appearances with Triple-A Memphis. Raquet should remain with the affiliate if he passes through waivers unclaimed.
