Heliot Ramos Doubles in defeat
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 11:27 AM
Ramos went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Ramos doubled in the first inning before coming around to score San Francisco's first run. With that, he recorded his first two-bagger since Aug. 26. Ramos has struggled over his last nine appearances, slashing .121/.216/.242 with five runs scored, two RBI and a home run in 37 plate appearances during that span.
Jerar Encarnacion
Jerar Encarnacion Multi-hit effort in loss
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 11:25 AM
Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Encarnacion made his third appearance after missing over a month due to a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The 27-year-old lined a two-run double to right field in the first inning and added a single in the third. With that, he delivered his second multi-hit performance over 13 games this season. Overall, he's slashing .205/.205/.436 with six RBI, four runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and a stolen base across 39 plate appearances in the 2025 campaign.
Casey Schmitt
Casey Schmitt Stepping out of lineup
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 11:21 AM
Schmitt is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Arizona.
Analysis: He'll get some rest during Wednesday's matinee after starting each of the previous seven contests. Christian Koss will occupy second base for the Giants in Schmitt's stead.
Jung Hoo Lee
Jung Hoo Lee Getting breather amid slump
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 11:19 AM
Lee is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Arizona.
Analysis: Lee hasn't tallied a single hit over his last five games, so he'll get a day off to regroup. Drew Gilbert will slide over to center field and Jerar Encarnacion will handle right field Wednesday as the Giants try to avoid a sweep.
Patrick Bailey
Patrick Bailey Idle Tuesday
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 5:47 PM
Bailey is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Bailey is getting a breather after starting in the last seven games. In that stretch, he went went 5-for-20 with three home runs, two walks and six strikeouts. Andrew Knizner has the start behind the plate and is batting ninth Tuesday.
Trevor McDonald
Trevor McDonald Recalled to majors
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 5:12 PM
The Giants recalled McDonald from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: McDonald has spent the entire season in Triple-A, where he owns a 5.37 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 142.1 innings while working primarily as a starter. He'll move to the bullpen upon joining the big club to provide the Giants with another long relief option, replacing Keaton Winn.
Keaton Winn
Keaton Winn Sent back to Sacramento
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 5:06 PM
The Giants optioned Winn to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Winn gave up five earned runs across eight innings during his latest stint in the majors. He'll now return to Triple-A to make room for Trevor McDonald, who will provide San Francisco with a fresh bullpen arm.
Matt Gage
Matt Gage Picks up loss Monday
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 10:59 AM
Gage (0-1) took the loss in Monday's 8-1 defeat to the Diamondbacks, allowing one earned run on one hit and one walk across one relief inning.
Analysis: Gage entered the game in the fifth inning and retired three of the four batters he faced, walking one. However, he gave up a double to begin the sixth and was subsequently removed. The right-hander has allowed five runs in his last three appearances, giving up six hits and two walks while hitting one batter in 2.2 innings during that span. He has recorded a 3.97 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 21:9 K:BB across 22.2 innings in 23 appearances with San Francisco this season.
Carson Seymour
Carson Seymour Shifts to bullpen
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 8:57 AM
Seymour struck out a batter and allowed one earned run on three hits over one inning of relief in Sunday's 10-2 loss to the Dodgers.
Analysis: Seymour had started in each of his previous three appearances, but after he turned in an 8.68 ERA and 1.71 WHIP across 9.1 innings in those outings, he was moved to the bullpen. The Giants called on Seymour to mop up in the ninth inning of Sunday's blowout loss, and most of the 26-year-old righty's appearances for the remainder of the season are likely to come in lower-leverage spots.
Tristan Beck
Tristan Beck Making first start of season
Tue, Sep 16, 2025, 8:49 AM
The Giants will have Beck start Tuesday's game in Arizona, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Beck's first 26 appearances of the season with the Giants have come as a reliever, but he'll draw the start Tuesday while the team looks to fill the hole in the rotation that was created after the struggling Carson Seymour was moved to the bullpen over the weekend. The Giants are likely to treat Tuesday's contest as a bullpen day and are expected to lean on multiple pitchers to get through the game, but Beck should be capable of providing more length than the typical opener. Beck -- who is taking the hill on two days' rest -- has covered between two and four innings in five of his last six relief appearances and will likely hover somewhere in that range Tuesday. With Carson Whisenhunt (back) set to make a rehab appearance for Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday before potentially returning from the 15-day injured list over the weekend, Beck could be in line for just one start before moving back to the bullpen.
Cole Waites
Cole Waites Returns from 7-day IL
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 8:27 PM
Waites (undisclosed) was activated from the 7-day injured list Thursday.
Analysis: Waites made his first appearance since July 17 after missing time on the injured list, tossing a scoreless frame while allowing one hit and one walk Friday against Triple-A Oklahoma City. He'll aim to build some momentum down the stretch after missing all of 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery and now most of 2025 with an undisclosed issue.
Brett Wisely
Brett Wisely DFA'd by San Francisco
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 5:39 PM
The Giants designated Wisely for assignment Monday.
Analysis: The move makes room on the Giants' 40-man roster for Bryce Eldridge, who will make his major-league debut against the Diamondbacks on Monday. Wisely has spent most of the season in Triple-A, where he is slashing .253/.332/.387 with 12 steals, 17 doubles, seven home runs and 42 RBI in 342 plate appearances.
Luis Matos
Luis Matos Optioned to Triple-A
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 5:38 PM
The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.
Analysis: The move makes room on the Giants' roster for top hitting prospect Bryce Eldridge, who will make his major-league debut against the Diamondbacks on Monday. Matos has seen his playing time dip slightly in September, and in seven games since Sept. 2 he has gone 3-for-21 (.143) with three runs and one RBI.
Randy Rodriguez
Randy Rodriguez Tommy John surgery on tap next week
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 9:50 AM
Rodriguez is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow during the final week of September, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Rodriguez has known for a few weeks that he would need Tommy John surgery after he was placed on the injured list Aug. 26, but he'll end up delaying the procedure for nearly a month, presumably because he was waiting for the inflammation in his elbow to subside. Assuming his surgery goes off without any complications, Rodriguez will face a 12-to-18-month recovery, which will keep him out for the entire 2026 campaign. Before suffering the injury, Rodriguez earned his first All-Star nod after submitting a 1.78 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 67:11 K:BB while collecting three wins, four saves and 13 holds over 50.2 innings this season.
Erik Miller
Erik Miller Eyeing return before season's end
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 9:45 AM
Miller (elbow) completed a bullpen session at Oracle Park on Saturday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Miller has been on the shelf since July 5 due to a left elbow sprain and incurred a setback in mid-August after making four rehab appearances for Triple-A Sacramento, but he's been able to resume his throwing program following a brief shutdown period. The southpaw still appears to have a chance at returning from the 60-day injured list before the end of the regular season, but due to the extensive time he's missed, the Giants may not be eager to deploy him in high-leverage spots right away while the team fights for a wild-card spot.
Landen Roupp
Landen Roupp Completes bullpen session
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 9:32 AM
Roupp (knee) tossed a 25-pitch bullpen session at Oracle Park on Friday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Roupp isn't expected to pitch again this season after landing on the 15-day injured list Aug. 22 due to a left knee bone bruise, but his ability to get back on the mound just under a month after suffering the injury suggests that he'll be in line for a relatively normal offseason. The 27-year-old proved to be a serviceable member of the rotation when healthy in 2025, logging a 7-7 record with a 3.80 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 102:45 K:BB in 106.2 innings.
Dominic Smith
Dominic Smith Likely out for regular season
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 9:28 AM
Smith was diagnosed with a moderate hamstring strain after exiting Friday's 5-1 win over the Dodgers and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: After he was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Smith is eligible to return for the Giants' final five games of the regular season, but the team is expecting him to need at least two weeks to recover from the hamstring strain. The Giants are planning to call up Bryce Eldridge from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of Monday's game in Arizona, and he'll likely step in for Smith in the strong side of a platoon at first base or designated hitter with the right-handed-hitting Wilmer Flores.
Carson Whisenhunt
Carson Whisenhunt Slated for rehab outing Tuesday
Sun, Sep 14, 2025, 9:34 PM
Whisenhunt (back) is expected to throw a couple innings in a rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Sacramento, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Whisenhunt was placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 31 due to a back strain but won't require a lengthy stay on the shelf. After completing a bullpen session Sunday that incorporated all of his pitches, Whisenhunt will make an abbreviated rehab appearance Tuesday before potentially rejoining the Giants next weekend. San Francisco has been getting by of late with Kai-Wei Teng and Carson Seymour as its back-end starters, but Whisenhunt could replace either pitcher in the rotation once he's activated.
Wilmer Flores
Wilmer Flores Stepping in for injured Smith
Sun, Sep 14, 2025, 2:34 PM
Flores will start at first base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
Analysis: Flores has mostly occupied the short side of a platoon with Dominic Smith (hamstring) since the All-Star break, but with Smith landing on the injured list Saturday, Flores should get the chance to play on a near-everyday basis. The 34-year-old heads into Sunday's contest having produced a .238/.306/.375 slash line with 15 home runs, 67 RBI, 41 runs and one stolen base in 444 plate appearances on the season.
Keaton Winn
Keaton Winn Allows one run Saturday
Sun, Sep 14, 2025, 9:25 AM
Winn allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out one over one inning in Saturday's 13-7 defeat to the Dodgers.
Analysis: Winn entered the game in the ninth, surrendering a single and a double while throwing 11 of his 13 pitches for strikes. The right-hander has appeared in four outings since being recalled to San Francisco on Aug. 26, allowing four earned runs on nine hits -- including one home run -- and one walk while striking out six in six innings. In six appearances this season, he owns a 4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB across eight innings.
