Cole Wilcox
Cole Wilcox Returned to minors
Mon, May 4, 2026, 6:18 PM
Wilcox was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.
Analysis: Wilcox put together a pair of scoreless appearances to begin May, but it wasn't enough to maintain his spot on the big-league roster. He's put together a 5.40 ERA and 2.17 WHIP with a 15:12 K:BB across 13.1 frames so far this season. Josh Simpson was recalled in a corresponding move.
Josh Simpson
Josh Simpson Receives promotion Monday
Mon, May 4, 2026, 6:15 PM
Simpson was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.
Analysis: Simpson will be called up to provide bullpen support after Gabe Speier (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list and Cole Wilcox was sent down. Simpson made 31 relief appearances with Miami a season ago, posting a 7.34 ERA and 1.83 WHIP with 36 strikeouts across 30.2 innings.
Gabe Speier
Gabe Speier Shelved by shoulder inflammation
Mon, May 4, 2026, 5:28 PM
The Mariners placed Speier on the 15-day injured list Monday with left shoulder inflammation, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: It's unclear how long Speier has been bothered by the shoulder issue, but he hasn't pitched since last Wednesday and was not sharp in that outing, retiring just two of six batters. Speier has been a workhorse out of the Seattle bullpen, so it's a sizable loss. He's made 15 appearances this season, posting a 2.92 ERA and 12:5 K:BB over 12.1 frames.
Cal Raleigh
Cal Raleigh Still out Monday
Mon, May 4, 2026, 4:02 PM
Raleigh (side) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis: Raleigh indicated Sunday that he's feeling better since experiencing right side tightness during Friday's game against the Royals, but he'll be held out of the starting nine for the third straight game while the Mariners await results of the MRI he underwent to gain more information about the severity of his injury. Mitch Garver will receive another turn behind the plate Monday, and the Mariners also recalled Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday to provide more insurance at catcher while Raleigh remains day-to-day.
Brendan Donovan
Brendan Donovan Beginning rehab assignment Tuesday
Mon, May 4, 2026, 2:09 AM
Donovan (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Arkansas on Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Donovan was previously expected to return before the end of the team's current homestand. That's now off the table, but if all goes well during his two-game stint with Arkansas, the 29-year-old will likely return Friday in Chicago. Donovan said recently that his groin issue will need to be monitored moving forward and is likely related to last year's sports hernia surgery.
Luis Castillo
Luis Castillo Takes another loss
Sun, May 3, 2026, 9:49 PM
Castillo (0-3) allowed four runs on six hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch while striking out five over six innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Royals.
Analysis: Castillo was doing fine until the fourth inning, when he allowed four straight batters to reach base to open the inning. Three of them came around to score, and the Royals tacked on an extra run in the sixth. Castillo has allowed at least four runs in five of his seven starts this season, though this is the third time he's allowed four earned runs. He has a 6.29 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB through 34.1 innings. Until Castillo is able to limit baserunners better, he is likely to continue having trouble preventing runs. His next start is projected to be on the road versus the White Sox.
Rhylan Thomas
Rhylan Thomas Loses hold of 40-man roster spot
Sun, May 3, 2026, 4:21 PM
The Mariners designated Thomas for assignment Sunday.
Analysis: Thomas had been part of Seattle's 40-man roster for just over a year but has made just three appearances at the big-league level. He's played exclusively at Triple-A Tacoma thus far in 2026, slashing .260/.313/.328 over 144 plate appearances. Given that he's already 26 years old and producing at a below-league-average level (67 wRC+) at Triple-A, Thomas is a good bet to go unclaimed off waivers.
Jose Suarez
Jose Suarez Scooped up by Seattle
Sun, May 3, 2026, 4:18 PM
Seattle claimed Suarez off waivers from Atlanta on Sunday.
Analysis: Suarez has no minor-league options remaining and will be added to the 26-man active roster once he links up with Seattle. The 28-year-old lefty is expected to serve as a multi-inning option out of the Seattle bullpen after logging a 6.61 ERA, 2.08 WHIP and 21:12 K:BB across 16.1 frames over eight appearances (one start) with Atlanta this season.
Rob Refsnyder
Rob Refsnyder Checking back into lineup
Sun, May 3, 2026, 3:11 PM
Refsnyder (undisclosed) will start at designated hitter and will bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: Refsnyder is typically included in the lineup against left-handers, but he took a seat versus southpaw Cole Ragans in the series opener Friday while he contended with a couple minor injuries. The Mariners felt comfortable enough with Refsnyder's health to use him off the bench in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning win, and after checking out fine afterward, he'll get the green light to start Sunday versus Royals lefty Kris Bubic.
Luke Raley
Luke Raley Taking seat against southpaw
Sun, May 3, 2026, 3:08 PM
Raley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: With the Mariners facing off against a lefty starter (Kris Bubic) for the second time in the series, the left-handed-hitting Raley will once again exit the starting nine. Connor Joe will replace Raley in right field and will bat seventh.
Dominic Canzone
Dominic Canzone Exiting lineup versus lefty
Sun, May 3, 2026, 3:07 PM
Canzone is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: With the Mariners facing off against a lefty starter (Kris Bubic) for the second time in the series, the left-handed-hitting Canzone will once again exit the starting nine. Rob Refsnyder will replace Canzone as the Mariners' designated hitter.
Cal Raleigh
Cal Raleigh Day-to-day with sore side
Sun, May 3, 2026, 1:33 PM
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals due to right side soreness and is considered day-to-day, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Raleigh was sent for an MRI after being scratched from the lineup Saturday due to unspecified soreness, which the Mariners have now identified, but the American League MVP runner-up has indicated that his injured side is already feeling better, per Divish. Raleigh was able to take some swings in the batting cage earlier Sunday, but he's unlikely to get used as a pinch hitter in the series finale versus Kansas City. He could return to the lineup Monday against Atlanta, however, either at catcher or designated hitter.
Andres Munoz
Andres Munoz Blows save Saturday
Sun, May 3, 2026, 6:55 AM
Munoz blew the save in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Royals, allowing one unearned run on two hits and no walks with one strikeout in the ninth inning.
Analysis: Munoz was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the ninth but gave up a run on a one-out single that was uncharacteristically misplayed by Julio Rodriguez. It continued what has been a somewhat rocky start for the top-tier closer, though the appearance actually lowered Munoz's season ERA from 6.00 to 5.54. Overall, he's 6-for-8 in save chances while also posting a 1.38 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB across 13 innings in the early going.
Emerson Hancock
Emerson Hancock Strikes out 14
Sun, May 3, 2026, 6:48 AM
Hancock did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Royals, allowing one run on six hits and no walks while striking out 14 over six innings.
Analysis: Hancock dazzled, generating a whopping 21 swinging strikes on 103 pitches while setting a career high with 14 strikeouts. It's the most punchouts by any pitcher so far in 2026, and the 26-year-old has now gone at least five innings while yielding three earned runs or fewer in each of his seven outings to open the year. He'll carry a 2.59 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 46:6 K:BB across 41.2 innings into a road matchup against the White Sox next weekend.
Will Wilson
Will Wilson Placed on IL with fractured thumb
Sat, May 2, 2026, 7:40 PM
The Mariners placed Wilson on the 10-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to Thursday, due to a fractured left thumb.
Analysis: Wilson may have picked up the injury against the Twins on Wednesday, when he went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. He'll undergo further tests on his thumb to determine a recovery timeline, but a fractured thumb typically means a lengthy stint on the IL. Jhonny Pereda was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.
Jhonny Pereda
Jhonny Pereda Recalled by Seattle
Sat, May 2, 2026, 7:37 PM
The Mariners recalled Pereda from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
Analysis: Pereda was unable to crack the Mariners' Opening Day roster but has played well in Triple-A, where he is slashing .333/.418/.436 with two home runs and eight RBI across 91 plate appearances. The move gives the Mariners a third catcher on the 26-man roster, which is notable after Cal Raleigh was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Royals due to undisclosed reasons. Will Wilson (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.
Cal Raleigh
Cal Raleigh Scratched from Saturday's lineup
Sat, May 2, 2026, 7:22 PM
Raleigh (undisclosed) is no longer in the Mariners' starting lineup against the Royals on Saturday.
Analysis: The Mariners have yet to announce why Raleigh was removed from the lineup, but it will be Mitch Garver who will start behind home plate and bat eighth in Saturday's contest. Raleigh has struggled to a .186/.272/.380 slash line with two steals, seven home runs and 18 RBI across 147 plate appearances this season.
Josh Simpson
Josh Simpson Back in Tacoma
Sat, May 2, 2026, 4:16 PM
The Mariners optioned Simpson to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The Mariners recalled Simpson from Triple-A on Friday, but he'll now be sent back to the minors a day later without appearing in a game for Seattle. Nick Davila was selected from Double-A Arkansas in a corresponding move.
Joining big club
Sat, May 2, 2026, 8:18 AM
The Mariners selected Davila's contract from Double-A Arkansas on Saturday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports
Analysis: Davila will make the jump to the majors directly from Double-A after giving up just two earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters across nine innings. He'll presumably take on a middle-relief role while with the Mariners and will be making his MLB debut if/when he gets into a game.
Josh Simpson
Josh Simpson Up from Tacoma
Fri, May 1, 2026, 6:42 PM
The Mariners recalled Simpson from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Analysis: With Matt Brash (lat) landing on the injured list Friday, the Mariners will call upon Simpson to fill the void in their bullpen. The 28-year-old southpaw struggled mightily in the big leagues last year, finishing with a 7.34 ERA and 1.83 WHIP across 30.2 innings with the Marlins. However, he's bounced back nicely with the Rainiers this season, allowing just one earned run on three hits and six walks while striking out 12 batters over 9.1 frames.
