Bryan Woo Another quality start
Sun, Aug 10, 2025, 9:07 PM
Woo (10-6) picked up the win Sunday against Tampa Bay, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over six innings.
Analysis: Woo generated his eighth quality start in 10 appearances, and he punched out nine batters for a second straight outing. The 25-year-old has a 3.08 ERA and a 143:26 K:BB across 146 innings this season. Sunday's quality start was Woo's 17th of the season, which stands as the most in MLB. Woo is tentatively scheduled to face the Mets in his next start.
Matt Brash
Matt Brash Steps in for save
Sun, Aug 10, 2025, 9:06 PM
Brash picked up the save Sunday against the Rays, striking out one batter during a perfect ninth inning.
Analysis: Brash took the mound in the ninth inning for a save opportunity as regular closer Andres Munoz got some rest after pitching three times in the last four days. It was Brash's second save in three games, and his third save of the campaign. The 27-year-old reliever has been outstanding in 2025, boasting a 1.16 ERA and a 35:12 K:BB in 31 innings pitched.
Josh Naylor
Josh Naylor Clubs homer
Sun, Aug 10, 2025, 9:05 PM
Naylor went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Sunday's 6-3 win over Tampa Bay
Analysis: Naylor hit his third home run in five games, taking Bryan Baker yard in the seventh inning. The first baseman has now recorded a hit in 10 of 15 games with the Mariners, going 15-for-52 (.288) with four homers, three doubles, 11 stolen bases and 10 runs scored. Naylor had stolen 11 bases in 95 games before being traded.
Cal Raleigh
Cal Raleigh Belts another homer
Sun, Aug 10, 2025, 9:04 PM
Raleigh went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 6-3 win over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Raleigh went 3-for-13 during Seattle's three-game series against the Rays, but all three of his hits were round trippers - one in each contest. The catcher tagged Adrian Houser for a two-run shot in his first at-bat. Raleigh is up to 45 home runs on the season, four more than any other player in baseball.
Trent Thornton
Trent Thornton Facing 6-to-8-month recovery
Sun, Aug 10, 2025, 5:23 PM
Thornton underwent season-ending surgery Monday to repair a torn left Achilles tendon and is expected to face a recovery timeline of 6-to-8 months, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Thornton suffered the Achilles injury during a July 30 relief appearance and finished the 2025 season with a 4.68 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB over 42.1 innings. Given the timeline laid out by Seattle, Thornton's availability for the start of spring training will likely be affected, and the injury could prompt the Mariners to non-tender him this winter as he heads into his final season of arbitration in 2026.
Bryce Miller
Bryce Miller Set for another rehab start
Sun, Aug 10, 2025, 4:30 PM
Miller (elbow) is scheduled to make his third rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Miller is expected to build up to around 80-to-85 pitches in the upcoming outing, which should be his final one in the minors before he returns from the 15-day injured list and slots back into the Seattle rotation. The right-hander has been on the shelf since June 7 due to elbow inflammation but has exhibited sharp control through his first two starts with Tacoma, turning in an 11:2 K:BB in 7.2 innings.
Cole Young
Cole Young Getting day off
Sun, Aug 10, 2025, 2:14 PM
Young is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: With Cal Raleigh getting a day off from catching but sticking in the lineup at designated hitter, Jorge Polanco will receive the start at second base while Young heads to the bench. The rookie still appears to be viewed as Seattle's top option at the keystone, but with a .253 batting average, three home runs, one steal, 21 runs and 16 RBI through his first 53 big-league games, Young's fantasy appeal will mostly be limited to AL-only leagues or deeper mixed leagues.
Josh Naylor
Josh Naylor Returning Saturday
Sat, Aug 9, 2025, 3:29 PM
Naylor (shoulder) is starting at first base and batting out of the cleanup spot in Saturday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Naylor sat out of Friday's series opener due to left shoulder soreness that flared up during Thursday's game against the White Sox. The day off was the remedy Naylor needed, as he's back in action Saturday. He has slashed .265/.324/.426 with 10 steals, three home runs and seven RBI over 74 plate appearances since the All-Star break.
Cal Raleigh
Cal Raleigh Plays hero in Friday's win
Sat, Aug 9, 2025, 9:01 AM
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 3-2 win over the Rays.
Analysis: With the Mariners down 2-0 in the eighth inning, Raleigh got hold of a Griffin Jax sweeper and launched it to right-center field for the game-winning homer. It was Raleigh's 43rd long ball of the year, as he marches closer to toppling Salvador Perez's MLB record of 48 homers in a season set in 2021. Raleigh's overall offensive output has slipped since the All-Star break, however, and over his last 20 games he is slashing .198/.253/.383 with 11 RBI.
Matt Brash
Matt Brash Collects second save
Sat, Aug 9, 2025, 8:53 AM
Brash struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his second save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Rays.
Analysis: Andres Munoz had worked Wednesday and Thursday, so Brash got the call for the save opportunity and mowed down Tampa Bay's 2-3-4 hitters on 19 pitches (10 strikes). Brash missed the first month-plus of the season while completing his recovery from a hybrid Tommy John surgery/internal brace procedure on his elbow performed in May 2024, but since getting back on the mound he's been almost untouchable, posting a 1.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 34:12 K:BB over 30 innings. Munoz's numbers are also elite as the team's closer, but Brash's presence gives the M's perhaps the best high-leverage duo in the league.
Luis Castillo
Luis Castillo Settles for no-decision Friday
Sat, Aug 9, 2025, 8:45 AM
Castillo didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 3-2 win over the Rays, giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.
Analysis: All the damage off the veteran righty came on solo shots by Brandon Lowe in the first inning and Junior Caminero in the sixth, but all of Seattle's offense came on a three-run blast by Cal Raleigh in the eighth. Castillo delivered his 14th quality start of the year on 99 pitches (72 strikes), and he's allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight straight trips to the mound, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 45:7 K:BB through 48 innings over that span. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend against the Mets.
Luke Raley
Luke Raley Cleared for rehab assignment
Fri, Aug 8, 2025, 4:25 PM
Raley (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Analysis: Raley landed on the 10-day injured list in late July due to back spasms. He started his hitting progression Tuesday, and he's progressed enough in his recovery to embark on a rehab assignment. Raley may need only a weekend stint with Tacoma before being cleared to return to the majors.
Josh Naylor
Josh Naylor Not in Friday's lineup
Fri, Aug 8, 2025, 4:03 PM
Naylor (shoulder) is not in the Mariners' starting lineup against the Rays on Friday.
Analysis: Naylor was forced to leave Thursday's game against the White Sox due to left shoulder soreness, and while he's not in Friday's lineup, he could be available as a pinch hitter, per Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com. With Naylor absent from the lineup, Donovan Solano will handle duties at first base and bat seventh while Jorge Polanco operates out of the cleanup spot.
Bryce Miller
Bryce Miller Ramps up to 66 pitches
Thu, Aug 7, 2025, 10:43 PM
Miller (elbow) allowed four earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five across 3.2 innings in a rehab outing with Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, Tim Booth of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Miller made his second rehab outing with Tacoma and increased his pitch count from 52 to 66 pitches. His line wasn't all that impressive, but he averaged 95.9 mph on his fastball while topping out at 97.5 mph. It's unclear if he'll return to the rotation the next time he takes the mound, or if he will make an additional rehab start.
Josh Naylor
Josh Naylor Dealing with shoulder soreness
Thu, Aug 7, 2025, 7:05 PM
Naylor exited Thursday's game against the White Sox due to shoulder soreness, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Naylor grimaced during a swing in the third inning and departed shortly thereafter. The initial diagnosis doesn't sound particularly ominous and Naylor was labeled day-to-day, though he could undergo imaging with more details to follow.
Logan Gilbert
Logan Gilbert Goes five innings in no-decision
Thu, Aug 7, 2025, 6:48 PM
Gilbert did not factor into the decision Thursday against the White Sox, allowing a run on two hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: Gilbert held the White Sox scoreless through four innings before ultimately allowing a lone run on a Michael Taylor solo homer in the fifth. It's been an up-and-down year overall for the 28-year-old Gilbert, though he's now held opponents to three runs or fewer in four of his last five starts. Gilbert's ERA now sits at 3.35 with a 0.98 WHIP and 118 strikeouts through 16 starts (83.1 innings). He's tentatively lined up to face the Orioles on the road in his next outing.
Josh Naylor
Josh Naylor Exits early Thursday
Thu, Aug 7, 2025, 4:14 PM
Naylor was removed from Thursday's game against the White Sox with an apparent injury, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Naylor didn't seem very comfortable at the plate during either of his at-bats Thursday, and he was taken out of the game after grounding out to end the third inning. The Mariners haven't yet said what is bothering the 28-year-old first baseman, but more details will presumably come after he's evaluated by the training staff.
Cole Young
Cole Young Receiving afternoon off
Thu, Aug 7, 2025, 12:02 PM
Young is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the White Sox.
Analysis: The Mariners will give Cal Raleigh a day off from catching but are keeping his bat in the lineup at designated hitter, so Jorge Polanco will give up his usual DH duties but stay in the starting nine himself by taking over for Young at second base. Young had started in each of Seattle's last six games, going 6-for-17 with a home run, a stolen base, four walks, four RBI and four runs to improve his season-long slash line to .252/.326/.352 over 179 plate appearances.
Bryce Miller
Bryce Miller Next rehab start coming Thursday
Tue, Aug 5, 2025, 6:00 PM
Miller (elbow) is scheduled to throw about 65 pitches during his second rehab outing Thursday with Triple-A Tacoma, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The right-hander threw 52 pitches over four scoreless innings during his first rehab start last week, and he'll continue building up his workload Thursday. If all goes well in that outing with the Rainiers, Miller could be cleared to rejoin Seattle's rotation for his first MLB start since early June.
Victor Robles
Victor Robles Set for rehab assignment
Tue, Aug 5, 2025, 5:09 PM
Robles (shoulder) will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Aug. 12, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Robles, who has been out since early April, is ready to make the next big step to return to action. Starting the rehab assignment Aug. 12 may place the outfielder ahead of schedule, but the Mariners are targeting 40 to 50 at-bats before he is activated off of the injured list. The 28-year-old will likely get a mix of playing time in the outfield and as a designated hitter as he returns to game action in Triple-A Tacoma.
