Samad Taylor Loses rosters spot
Thu, Jan 15, 2026, 10:40 PM
Taylor was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Thursday.
Analysis: The Mariners acquired Yosver Zulueta from the Reds on Thursday, which created a need for a spot on the 40-man roster. Taylor became the odd man out. Taylor has primarily been stuck at Triple-A for the last four seasons, though he has picked up 83 plate appearances in the majors in that span.

Analysis: After being DFA'd by the Reds earlier in the day, Zulueta will recapture a 40-man roster spot upon joining his new club. The 27-year-old righty allowed five earned runs in just 7.1 regular-season innings with the Reds during 2025 but finished with a 3.28 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through 60.1 frames in Triple-A. He's likely ticketed to begin the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Tacoma.

Raley signed a one-year contract with the Mariners on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: This marked Raley's first year of arbitration eligibility. He took a significant step back in 2025, logging only a .630 OSP across 219 plate appearances while also dealing with oblique and back injuries. Raley projects to serve in a bench role to begin 2026.
Logan Gilbert
Logan Gilbert Gets nearly $11 million
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 7:31 PM
Gilbert and the Mariners agreed to a one-year, $10.9 million contract to avoid arbitration Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: This marked Gilbert's third year of arbitration eligibility and he's set to earn about a $3.4 million raise from 2025. He turned in another very strong season, maintaining a 3.44 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 131 frames during the regular season.
Matt Brash
Matt Brash Signs deal with Seattle
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 7:24 PM
Brash and the Mariners agreed to a one-year contract to avoid arbitration on Thursday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Brash has been a key high-leverage reliever for the Mariners across the last two seasons, racking up a combined eight saves and 46 holds. He should serve in a similar capacity in 2026, working as the primary setup man to Andres Munoz. This was Brash's first year of arbitration eligibility.
George Kirby
George Kirby Avoids arbitration with M's
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 1:50 PM
Kirby signed a one-year, $6.55 million contract with the Mariners on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis: Kirby turned in the worst statistical season of his four-year MLB career in 2025, logging a 4.21 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 126 regular-season innings, although his 9.8 K/9 marked a new personal best for the 27-year-old righty. He'll receive a $2.25 million raise entering the 2026 campaign and still has two years of arbitration eligibility remaining.
Randy Arozarena
Randy Arozarena Reaches $15.65 million deal

Analysis: Arozarena is receiving a raise of more than $5 million for his final year of arbitration eligibility in 2026. The 30-year-old outfielder posted a .238/.334/.426 slash line with 27 homers, 31 stolen bases, 76 RBI and 95 runs in 160 games during the 2025 regular season.
Patrick Wisdom
Patrick Wisdom Signed to NRI deal by Seattle
Wed, Jan 7, 2026, 1:17 PM
The Mariners signed Wisdom to a minor-league contract Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports.
Analysis: Wisdom will return to the states after a year in Korea, where he slashed .236/.321/.535 with 35 home runs for the Kia Tigers. The Mariners have an opening at third base, but Wisdom is a long shot to earn significant playing time with the big club. He's a career .209/.291/.459 hitter over parts of seven big-league seasons.
Cole Young
Cole Young Won't be blocked by outside add
Tue, Dec 23, 2025, 8:19 AM
Young is expected to see the majority of playing time at second base for the Mariners in 2026 even if the team acquires a second baseman from outside the organization, Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic report.
Analysis: The Mariners remain very high on Young even after he had just a .607 OPS in 257 plate appearances during his rookie season. Young is just 22, but the Mariners appear committed to giving him some leash in the majors in 2026. It seemingly makes a trade for Ketel Marte unlikely, and if Brendan Donovan is acquired, he would be in line to see the bulk of his reps at a position other than second base.
Rob Refsnyder
Rob Refsnyder Inks $6.25M deal with Seattle
Mon, Dec 22, 2025, 3:46 PM
The Mariners signed Refsnyder to a one-year, $6.25 million contract Monday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Refsnyder slashed a robust .312/.407/.516 versus left-handed pitching during his four seasons with the Red Sox, and it should be against southpaws that he sees most of his playing time with the Mariners. He's capable of handling all three outfield spots, and while Refsnyder does have past infield experience, he hasn't played on the dirt regularly since 2017.
Brennen Davis
Brennen Davis Signs NRI deal with Seattle
Thu, Dec 18, 2025, 3:56 PM
The Mariners signed Davis to a minor-league contract Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports.
Analysis: Davis missed time with injuries again in 2025 in the Yankees organization, but he was productive when on the field, slashing .248/.324/.576 with 12 homers in 36 contests at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The former top prospect is likely headed back to the Triple-A level again to start 2026, but he will compete in spring training for a roster spot with the big club.
Andrew Knizner
Andrew Knizner Gets MLB deal from Seattle
Tue, Dec 16, 2025, 2:09 PM
The Mariners signed Knizner to a one-year contract Tuesday.
Analysis: Knizner saw 88 plate appearances this past season with the Giants, putting up a .598 OPS. A career .211/.281/.316 over parts of seven big-league seasons, Knizner is poised to open the 2026 season as the Mariners' backup catcher behind star Cal Raleigh.
Jose A. Ferrer
Jose A. Ferrer Sent to Seattle
Sat, Dec 6, 2025, 3:37 PM
The Nationals traded Ferrer to the Mariners on Saturday in exchange for Harry Ford and minor-league pitcher Isaac Lyon, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis: Ferrer finished the 2025 season with a 4.48 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 76.1 innings, and he also recorded 11 saves upon taking over as the Nationals' closer following the departure of Kyle Finnegan. The Mariners' bullpen is a bit deeper than Washington's, however, so Ferrer is likely to take on a middle-relief role with his new club.
Cole Young
Cole Young Leading candidate for second base
Wed, Dec 3, 2025, 10:46 AM
Young is the leading candidate to start at second base for the Mariners next season, Adam Jude of the Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Young's playing time tapered off for the Mariners down the stretch of the regular season and he did not play during the playoffs. However, Seattle remains high on the 22-year-old's potential despite a .211/.302/.305 batting line in 77 games this season. The Mariners could acquire a second baseman from outside the organization, but if they don't, the left-handed-hitting Young is the top candidate to start at least against righties. Leo Rivas and Ryan Bliss (knee) will also be in the mix.
Casey Lawrence
Casey Lawrence Back in Seattle on MiLB deal
Fri, Nov 28, 2025, 9:11 AM
The Mariners re-signed Lawrence to a minor-league contract Thursday, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports.
Analysis: Lawrence appeared in six games between the Blue Jays and Mariners last season, holding a 4.08 ERA and 7:1 K:BB over 17.2 frames. The 38-year-old right-hander will likely begin the 2026 season at Triple-A Tacoma as swingman depth.
Tayler Saucedo
Tayler Saucedo Removed from 40-man
Tue, Nov 18, 2025, 8:11 PM
The Mariners designated Saucedo for assignment Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The 32-year-old lefty will end up as the roster casualty necessary to make room for Alex Hoppe, who was acquired Tuesday in a trade with the Red Sox. Saucedo struggled to get going in 2025, turning in a 7.43 ERA and 1.88 WHIP across 13.1 innings with the Mariners. He posted a 2.75 ERA in 19.2 frames at Triple-A Tacoma, however, which may be enough for another team to put in a waiver claim on him.
Josh Naylor
Josh Naylor Sticking with Seattle
Sun, Nov 16, 2025, 7:42 PM
Naylor and the Mariners are finalizing a five-year contract Sunday, pending a physical, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Naylor will remain with Seattle after being traded to the team from Arizona in late July. The first baseman compiled a .295/.353/.462 slash line while producing 20 home runs, 92 RBI, 81 runs scored and a career-high 30 stolen bases over 147 regular-season contests with the Diamondbacks and Mariners in 2025. Naylor registered a .299 average with nine homers and 33 RBI in 54 regular-season games with Seattle. The 28-year-old will now hold down the first-base position for the team for a half-decade moving forward.
Randy Dobnak
Randy Dobnak Gets NRI pact from Seattle
Tue, Nov 11, 2025, 1:46 PM
The Mariners signed Dobnak to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Dobnak became a free agent last week after the Tigers declined his option for 2026, and he's now headed to the Pacific Northwest. The 30-year-old spent nearly all of 2025 at the Triple-A level, holding a 5.84 ERA over 18 starts and eight relief appearances. Dobnak will likely begin the 2026 season in the rotation at Triple-A Tacoma.
Ryan Loutos
Ryan Loutos Claimed by Mariners
Thu, Nov 6, 2025, 2:13 PM
The Mariners claimed Loutos off waivers from the Washington Nationals on Thursday.
Analysis: Loutos, a 26-year-old right-hander, made 12 MLB appearances during the 2025 season, split between stints with the Dodgers and Nationals. He posted a 12.75 ERA and a 2.33 WHIP with an 8:8 K:BB over 12 innings. He fared significantly better with the Nationals' Triple-A affiliate in Rochester, posting a 4.32 ERA and a 27:13 K:BB across 25 innings. He'll join the Mariners' 40-man roster.
