Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Not in Wednesday's lineup
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 4:33 PM
Andujar is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Rockies on Wednesday.
Analysis: Andujar has been productive at the plate to open the season, with the 31-year-old slashing .308/.345/.423 with one steal and two RBI over 55 plate appearances. He'll be on the bench for the start of Wednesday's contest, with Gavin Sheets serving as the designated hitter and Nick Castellanos filling in at first base.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Sitting Wednesday
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 4:31 PM
Fermin is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Rockies on Wednesday.
Analysis: With Fermin opening Wednesday's game on the bench, Luis Campusano will serve behind home plate and bat eighth while catching pitches from Walker Buehler. Fermin has struggled at the plate this season, slashing .194/.333/.278 with two RBI and nine runs scored over 45 plate appearances.
Bryan Hoeing
Bryan Hoeing Moved to 60-day IL
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 12:12 PM
The Padres transferred Hoeing (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.
Analysis: The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Lucas Giolito, who signed a one-year deal with San Diego. Hoeing will miss the entire 2026 season after having surgery in March to repair his flexor tendon.
Lucas Giolito
Lucas Giolito Inks one-year deal with Padres
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 12:10 PM
The Padres signed Giolito to a one-year contract Wednesday.
Analysis: He'll earn a prorated $3 million, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The deal also includes a mutual option for 2027 that could feature a sizable buyout. Giolito posted a 3.41 ERA and 121:56 K:BB over 145 regular-season innings for the Red Sox in 2025. Elbow soreness prevented Giolito from being available for the postseason, but he had a normal offseason throwing program and said earlier this month on Audacy's Baseball Isn't Boring podcast that he's been maintaining a pitch count of around 75 during live batting practice sessions. Per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Giolito will be assigned to Single-A Lake Elsinore, where he will knock off some rust before eventually joining the San Diego rotation.
Randy Vasquez
Randy Vasquez Collects second win of 2026
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 10:33 PM
Vasquez (2-0) earned the win against the Rockies on Tuesday, allowing three hits while striking out five across seven scoreless innings. He did not issue a walk.
Analysis: Vasquez made easy work out of the Rockies' batters Tuesday, tossing 56 strikes on just 84 pitches (66.7 percent) while generating 12 whiffs. It was a nice bounce-back performance from the 27-year-old right-hander, who struggled in his prior outing Wednesday against the Mariners. It was Vasquez's third quality start of the season (in five outings), and he has a 1.88 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB across 28.2 innings. He's lined up to face the Cubs next week at home.
Adrian Morejon
Adrian Morejon Tallies first save of 2026
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 10:26 PM
Morejon earned the save in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Rockies, striking out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning.
Analysis: Although Mason Miller and the Padres had an off-day Monday, manager Craig Stammen opted to go with Morejon to close things out for Tuesday's low-scoring contest. That was likely due to Edouard Julien and Mickey Moniak -- both left-handed batters -- being the first two up to the plate in the frame, and the southpaw Morejon ended up striking out both before getting Hunter Goodman to fly out to center field. Morejon has not yielded a run or hit in each of his last four outings, striking out seven batters while issuing just one walk over that five-inning span. It's been a nice turnaround from how he opened the season with a 10.80 ERA and 2.40 WHIP over 6.2 innings.
Matt Waldron
Matt Waldron Drawing another start
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 12:30 PM
Waldron is slated to start Thursday's game against the Rockies at Coors Field.
Analysis: Shelved to begin the season while completing his recovery from hemorrhoid surgery, Waldron returned from the injured list last week following a dominant minor-league rehab stint during which he tossed 12 scoreless frames and posted a 12:1 K:BB over three starts for Triple-A El Paso. The right-hander stepped into the San Diego rotation but was unable to carry over his success from the minors, taking a loss Friday against the Angels while yielding six earned runs on eight hits and one walk over 3.2 innings. Though Waldron will be handed another start, he'll be difficult to rely upon for fantasy purposes while pitching in hitter-friendly Colorado.
Ron Marinaccio
Ron Marinaccio Scoreless inning in win
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 12:16 PM
Marinaccio allowed two walks and registered one strikeout in an inning of work Sunday in the 2-1 win against the Angels.
Analysis: Marinaccio has been used as a longer bridge pitcher so far this season for a good Padres bullpen, as he has pitched more than one inning in five out of his eight appearances to start the year. The right-hander has filled this role nicely so far this season, as in 12.1 innings, he has 11 strikeouts and a 3.65 ERA. San Diego's loaded bullpen likely won't allow the 30-year-old to climb further into high-leverage situations, but he continues to be serviceable in his respectable role.
Griffin Canning
Griffin Canning Fourth rehab start coming Wednesday
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 9:51 AM
Canning (Achilles) is scheduled to make his fourth rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A El Paso, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Through his first three starts with El Paso, Canning has compiled a 4.32 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB across 8.1 innings. After his 2025 season came to an early end in June due to a torn left Achilles tendon that required surgery, Canning hasn't reported any setbacks since starting his rehab assignment and could be on track to return from the injured list as soon as next week. He built up to 67 pitches in his most recent start, so if he can get further stretched out in Wednesday's outing while showing improved control, the Padres may feel comfortable activating him. Matt Waldron would likely be most at risk of losing his spot in the rotation once Canning is deemed ready to join San Diego.
Bryce Johnson
Bryce Johnson Key RBI in win
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 8:45 PM
Johnson started in right field and went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's victory over the Angels.
Analysis: Johnson drew a rare start, with Fernando Tatis shifting to second base. The former made the most of the opportunity, notching two hits and driving in a key run in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 2-0 in a 2-1 win for the Padres. In 18 plate appearances this season, Johnson owns a .669 OPS and figures to continue seeing limited playing time in a loaded San Diego outfield that regularly features Ramon Laureano, Jackson Merrill and Tatis.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Secures eighth save
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 8:36 PM
Miller picked up the save Sunday against the Angels. He allowed no hits or walks while striking out two over a perfect inning.
Analysis: Miller made quick work of the Angels, retiring the side on 13 pitches to secure a series win for the Padres. Sunday marked the right-hander's second save in as many days and his eighth of the season, giving him sole possession of the MLB lead. The 27-year-old flamethrower has been virtually unhittable in 2026, posting a 0.00 ERA and 0.35 WHIP with a 27:2 K:BB across 11.1 innings, extending a scoreless streak which dates back to last season to 32.2 innings.
Michael King
Michael King Grinds for third win
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 8:19 PM
King (3-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing a hit and four walks over five scoreless innings against the Angels. He struck out six.
Analysis: King battled inconsistent control and needed 105 pitches to complete five innings but held the opposition scoreless en route to his third win of the campaign. The right-hander has won each of his past three starts and is off to an encouraging start in 2026, posting a 2.28 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across 27.2 innings (five starts). His next start is slated for the weekend on the road against the Diamondbacks.
Ty France
Ty France On bench, but playing time on rise
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 2:28 PM
France is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: France will head to the bench after he went 6-for-16 with a solo home run, a double and three additional runs while starting at first base in five of the Padres' previous six games. The Padres have an opening in their everyday lineup for one of France, Miguel Andujar and Nick Castellanos, and manager Craig Stammen looks like he could ride the hottest bat of the trio in the short term until one player clearly separates himself from the others.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Resting up Sunday
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 2:23 PM
Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: After taking a foul tip off his catcher's mask and being forced out of Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Mariners, Fermin didn't appear in the Padres' subsequent two games. He returned to the lineup Saturday and caught all nine innings of the Padres' 4-1 win, going 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs. Fermin didn't experience any reported setbacks coming out of that contest, so he's presumably just getting some rest for a day game after a night game.
Jake Cronenworth
Jake Cronenworth Taking seat Sunday
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 2:20 PM
Cronenworth is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Cronenworth was able to play the entirety of Saturday's 4-1 win after taking a Yusei Kikuchi fastball to the chin in the fifth inning, and though he reported no issues following the game, the Padres will elect to hold him out of the starting nine for the series finale in Anaheim. Fernando Tatis will receive his third start of the season at second base while Cronenworth rests up Sunday.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Back in starting nine
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 5:37 PM
Fermin (head) will start at catcher and bat eighth Saturday against the Angels.
Analysis: Fermin missed the Padres' last two games after taking a foul tip off his mask Wednesday, but he's been given the go-ahead to return behind the plate Saturday. The 30-year-old backstop hasn't found much offensive success in the early going, slashing .161/.270/.226 through his first 15 games.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Back to bench Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 5:26 PM
Andujar is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Andujar will not make the start against right-hander Jose Soriano, as Ty France is getting the nod at first base, with Nick Castellanos at designated hitter. Andujar has been out of the lineup four of the last five games for the Padres.
Ramon Laureano
Ramon Laureano Not in lineup Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 5:23 PM
Laureano is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Laureano has started 17 of the Padres' first 19 games but will get a breather for Friday's series opener against the Angels. With Laureano idle, Gavin Sheets is starting in left field, with Nick Castellanos at designated hitter and Ty France playing first base.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Remains idle Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 5:21 PM
Fermin (head) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Fermin will miss a second straight start after taking a foul tip off the mask Wednesday against the Mariners. Luis Campusano will make another start at catcher and bat ninth.
Alek Jacob
Alek Jacob Optioned to Triple-A
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 2:31 PM
The Padres optioned Jacob to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
Analysis: He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Matt Waldron, who will start Friday's game versus the Angels after being activated from the injured list. Jacob had just been recalled earlier this week and turned in a scoreless outing in his lone appearance out of the bullpen.
