Jason Adam
Jason Adam Thinks he could be ready for opener
Fri, Feb 13, 2026, 11:38 AM
Adam (quadriceps) said Friday that he "absolutely" thinks he could be ready in time for Opening Day, 97.3 The Fan reports.
Analysis: Coming back from left quadriceps tendon repair surgery, Adam has been throwing bullpen sessions but still needs to show he can field his position and run without issue. The reliever said that the "ultimate priority" is to be healthy for the bulk of the season, but he believes he has a chance to be available Opening Day. Previous estimates have had Adam in line for his season debut around mid-April, and that's probably still the most likely scenario.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Named closer by manager
Wed, Feb 11, 2026, 2:17 PM
Padres manager Craig Stammen confirmed Wednesday that Miller will serve as the team's closer in 2026, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The announcement was merely a formality, as Miller always appeared likely to open the season as the Padres' closer once Stammen confirmed in December that the 27-year-old righty would remain in the bullpen in 2026 and after Robert Suarez bolted for Atlanta in free agency. After being acquired from the Athletics last July in a stunning deadline deal, Miller turned in a 0.77 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 45 strikeouts to go along with two saves in 23.1 innings to close out the Padres' regular season. Now that he's in line to receive the overwhelming majority of save chances in San Diego to go along with his typically pristine ratios, Miller has a strong argument for being the first closer off the board in fantasy drafts.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Could be back by mid-April
Tue, Feb 10, 2026, 10:18 AM
Adam (quadriceps) could be ready for his season debut "by mid-April or thereabouts," AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Adam is working his way back from left quadriceps tendon repair surgery, which he had last September. The Padres anticipate the veteran reliever throwing off a mound during spring training, and he could be ready for a rehab assignment around Opening Day. Once healthy, Adam will be a top setup man to closer Mason Miller.
Riley Pint
Riley Pint Lands with Padres on MiLB deal
Thu, Feb 5, 2026, 8:17 AM
The Padres signed Pint to a minor-league contract Tuesday.
Analysis: Pint signed a minor-league deal with the Guardians last offseason but never wound up pitching in their organization or anywhere else in 2025, presumably due to an undisclosed injury. The one-time No. 4 overall draft pick has been tattooed for nine runs over 3.2 innings during his brief time in the majors.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Lands in San Diego
Wed, Feb 4, 2026, 8:48 PM
Andujar signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Padres on Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Andujar finished the 2025 campaign on a high note after being traded from the Athletics to Cincinnati at the deadline, slashing .359/.400/.544 with four homers, 17 RBI and 14 runs scored over 110 regular-season plate appearances with the Reds. Now with the Padres, the 30-year-old outfielder is likely to see most of his playing time come against left-handed starters, as he's posted an impressive .967 OPS versus southpaws since 2023.
Marco Gonzales
Marco Gonzales Nets NRI pact from San Diego
Thu, Jan 29, 2026, 1:59 PM
The Padres signed Gonzales to a minor-league contract Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Gonzales will receive $1.5 million if in the majors, with an additional $1 million available in incentives. The lefty went unsigned while missing the entire 2025 season following flexor tendon surgery, but he should be fully recovered from that operation and enter spring training without major restrictions. Gonzales -- who turns 34 in February -- hasn't pitched in a game setting since Aug. 2024, so he'll surely need some time in the minors. He holds a career 4.16 ERA over 170 appearances (162 starts) at the major-league level.
Samad Taylor
Samad Taylor Finds work with Padres
Sat, Jan 24, 2026, 5:23 PM
Taylor signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Taylor elected free agency Friday after being outrighted by the Mariners, and he'll now attempt to carve out a role for himself with the Padres. The 27-year-old carries just a .532 OPS through 83 career plate appearances in the majors, but he slashed .296/.378/.461 with 86 RBI, 124 runs scored and 44 steals over 137 games at Triple-A Tacoma in 2025.
Yu Darvish
Yu Darvish Considering retirement
Sat, Jan 24, 2026, 3:26 PM
Darvish (elbow) is considering retiring from professional baseball, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Darvish is slated to earn $46 million over the next three years, but after undergoing UCL repair surgery in November that will cause him to miss all of 2026, the 39-year-old's future in MLB is uncertain. Injuries have limited him to just 31 big-league starts over the past two regular seasons, during which he's turned in a 4.28 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across 153.2 total innings.
Joe Musgrove
Joe Musgrove No strict innings cap in 2026
Tue, Jan 13, 2026, 4:00 PM
Padres manager Craig Stammen said Tuesday on Foul Territory that Musgrove (elbow) will not have a strict innings limit in 2026.
Analysis: Musgrove missed the entire 2025 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery but has been throwing bullpen sessions since August. Stammen noted that while the Padres will keep a close eye on how Musgrove is feeling after each start, the team will take the righty "as far as he's willing to go" with his workload. After topping 180 innings in 2021 and 2022, Musgrove threw 106.2 innings in 2023 and 103 innings in 2024. It would be a big ask for the 33-year-old to get back to the 180-inning plateau in 2026, but it sounds like the Padres would allow him to get to that level as long as he feels good.
Nick Solak
Nick Solak Grabs MiLB deal from Padres
Tue, Jan 13, 2026, 2:19 PM
The Padres signed Solak to a minor-league contract Dec. 18.
Analysis: Solak made it back to the majors briefly with the Pirates last season, going 1-for-11 in four games. The 31-year-old hasn't seen regular action in the big leagues season 2021 and is merely organizational depth for San Diego.
Omar Cruz
Omar Cruz Back with Padres as NRI
Tue, Jan 13, 2026, 2:15 PM
The Padres re-signed Cruz to a minor-league contract Dec. 18 that includes an invitation to spring training, Alejandra M. Razo of MSN.com reports.
Analysis: Cruz was non-tendered by the Padres in November but has re-upped on a minor-league pact. The lefty permitted two runs over 3.2 innings during his brief stint with the Padres in 2025 and is likely ticketed for Triple-A El Paso to begin the 2026 campaign.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Avoids arbitration with San Diego
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 7:55 PM
Fermin signed a one-year, $2.1 million contract with the Padres on Thursday to avoid arbitration.
Analysis: Fermin was traded by the Royals to the Padres in late July, and across both clubs he posted a .636 OPS with one steal, 32 runs, 13 doubles, five home runs and 26 RBI over 347 plate appearances during the 2025 regular season. The 30-year-old projects to be the Padres No. 1 catcher by Opening Day of the 2026 season while Luis Campusano serves as the backup.
JP Sears
JP Sears Gets deal with San Diego
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 7:49 PM
Sears signed a one-year contract with the Padres on Thursday to avoid arbitration.
Analysis: Sears was a regular part of the Athletics' rotation before being shipped to the Padres in late July, after which point he was sent back and forth between Triple-A and the majors. He ended the 2025 regular season with a 5.04 ERA and 1.32 WHIP -- both career worsts -- across 135.2 innings, and his spot in the Padres' rotation could be shaky if he gets off to a slow start in 2026.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Avoids arbitration with Padres
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 7:37 PM
Miller signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Padres on Thursday to avoid arbitration.
Analysis: The terms of the deal have yet to be announced, though Miller was projected at $3.3 million in his first year of arbitration, per Spotrac.com. Miller opened the 2025 regular season with the Athletics before being traded to the Padres in July, and between both teams he posted a 2.63 ERA, 0.91 WHIP 10 holds, 22 saves (out of 26 opportunities) and a 104:28 K:BB across 61.2 innings. Miller served in a high-leverage role out of the Padres bullpen after being the Athletics' top closer. However, with Robert Suarez signing with Atlanta during the offseason, Miller figures to be San Diego's closer for the 2026 campaign.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Avoids arbitration with San Diego
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 6:46 PM
Adam (quadriceps) signed a one-year, $6.7 million contract with the Padres on Thursday to avoid arbitration.
Analysis: Adam earned his first All-Star selection in 2025, and he finished the regular season with a 1.93 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 30 holds (tied for fifth most in the majors) and a 70:25 K:BB across 65.1 innings. His 2025 campaign came to an abrupt halt in September after rupturing a tendon in his left quadriceps. After undergoing surgery that requires a recovery timeline of 6-to-9 months, the 34-year-old right-hander is expected to start the 2026 season on the injured list. However, per Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune in early December, Adam is expected to be ready to throw off a mound in spring training and may not need a lengthy stint on the IL.
Adrian Morejon
Adrian Morejon Settles with San Diego
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 3:17 PM
The Padres and Morejon avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.9 million contract Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: It was the final year of arbitration eligibility for Morejon, who is slated to become a free agent next offseason. The left-hander has posted a 2.42 ERA and 141:38 K:BB over 137.1 regular-season innings as a full-time reliever since the start of the 2024 campaign. He'll again serve in a high-leverage role in 2026.
Gavin Sheets
Gavin Sheets Gets $4.5 million from Padres
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 12:35 PM
Sheets and the Padres avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.5 million contract Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Sheets enjoyed a resurgence at the plate during his first year with the Padres, slashing .252/.317/.429 while setting new career highs with 19 homers, 71 RBI and 57 runs scored across 545 regular-season plate appearances. He'll be rewarded with a $2.9 million raise from the club and figures to remain as San Diego's primary DH in 2026.
Jose Miranda
Jose Miranda Inks minors deal with Padres
Fri, Dec 19, 2025, 12:46 PM
The Padres signed Miranda to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports.
Analysis: Miranda showed promise at times while with the Twins, but he crashed out in 2025, going 6-for-36 with the big club and hitting only .195/.272/.296 across 371 plate appearances at Triple-A St. Paul. Still, the 27-year-old is a solid get on a minor-league contract, and there's a non-zero chance he pushes for playing time at first base in San Diego.
Michael King
Michael King Returns to San Diego
Thu, Dec 18, 2025, 10:01 PM
King signed a three-year contract worth $75 million with the Padres on Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: King had two excellent seasons with the Padres in 2024 and 2025, and he passed on a qualifying offer with the team earlier in the offseason. According to Feinsand, King will receive a $12 million signing bonus and then make an additional $5 million in 2026. He will then have two additional player options for the 2027 and 2028 campaigns worth $28 and $30 million, respectively. Assuming King can avoid any lingering issues with his shoulder that cost him much of the 2025 season, he should headline the Padres' rotation.
Triston McKenzie
Triston McKenzie Invited to Padres' camp
Thu, Dec 18, 2025, 4:15 PM
McKenzie signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports
Analysis: McKenzie gave up seven earned runs over 5.2 innings with the Guardians this past season before being outrighted to the minor leagues in late April. His performance didn't improve following his demotion, as he turned in a 7.40 ERA and 2.13 WHIP over 20.2 frames split between rookie ball and Triple-A. He'll now attempt to revive his career with the Padres, but he will likely have to prove he can handle minor-league hitters again before getting a shot with the big club.
