Walker Buehler
Walker Buehler Takes loss after yielding early runs
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 8:50 PM
Buehler (7-6) took the loss against the Mets on Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings.
Analysis: Buehler got off to a slow start, allowing the first three hitters he faced on base and allowing two runs in the opening frame. He kept the Mets off the board the rest of the way and earned the quality start, but he could not get the run support he needed to avoid the loss. Buehler has put together stronger starts in his six starts since the All-Star break, posting a 3.16 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 31.1 innings, though he also has a 23:14 K:BB in that span. He's lined up to face the Twins at home this weekend.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Begins playing light catch
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 4:20 PM
Adam (shoulder) played light catch from 90 feet Monday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Adam said afterward that he "felt clean, I felt no pain, so really good." It's the first time he's done any throwing since he went down with a right shoulder strain in early July. He'll need some time to get built back up, but Adam should rejoin the Padres' bullpen sometime in September if all goes well.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Beginning swing progression
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 2:43 PM
The Padres announced Monday that Andujar (wrist) has been cleared to begin a swing progression, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andujar went down just after the All-Star break with a fractured right wrist. He will ramp up a swinging progression before eventually heading out on a rehab assignment. Andujar is without a timeline to return from the 10-day injured list, but he appears unlikely to make it back before the end of August.
Samad Taylor
Samad Taylor Kicking off rehab assignment
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 2:39 PM
Taylor (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Taylor landed on the 10-day injured list in early July with a right oblique strain but has finally been cleared to play in games again. Given how much time Taylor has missed, the utility player will likely require a handful of rehab contests before returning.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Six strong innings in first Padres win
Sun, Aug 16, 2026, 8:43 PM
Mize (5-7) notched the win against the Guardians on Sunday, allowing no runs on three hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Mize showed no ill effects of Sunday's game being delayed by over three hours due to rain, picking up his first win as a member of the Padres. The right-hander has been very consistent on the mound for the most part during his time for Detroit and San Diego, giving up two runs or fewer in 14 of his 19 outings on the year. Mize is set to take a career-best 3.18 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 95:25 K:BB over 102 innings into a favorable home matchup against the Twins.
Joe Musgrove
Joe Musgrove Reaches 70 pitches in rehab start
Sun, Aug 16, 2026, 12:16 PM
Musgrove allowed five earned runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five across 4.2 innings Friday in his rehab start with Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: Though he was knocked around in the third start of his rehab assignment, Musgrove built up to 70 pitches and 95.2 mph with his fastball. According to MLB.com, Padres manager Craig Stammen said Musgrove was "very positive" about how he felt during Friday's outing, but a decision has yet to be made regarding whether he'll require another rehab start or return from the 60-day injured list to make his first big-league appearance since Sept. 26, 2024. If Musgrove ends up entering the rotation during the Padres' upcoming weekend series with the Twins, he would likely be operating with a limited pitch count.
Luis Campusano
Luis Campusano Receiving rest Sunday
Sun, Aug 16, 2026, 11:58 AM
Campusano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: Campusano will get a breather Sunday after he made starts at catcher and designated hitter in the first two games of the series, going 2-for-7 with two doubles, one walk and three RBI. Freddy Fermin will step in behind the dish, while Manny Machado receives a turn as the Friars' DH.
Luis Rengifo
Luis Rengifo Getting rest Saturday
Sat, Aug 15, 2026, 3:20 PM
Rengifo isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Cleveland.
Analysis: Rengifo has notched four hits -- including a grand slam -- across his last three games but will retreat to the bench to begin Saturday's contest. Austin Hays will take over in left field and bat seventh.
Luis Campusano
Luis Campusano Continues to swing hot bat
Sat, Aug 15, 2026, 1:04 PM
Campusano went 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI in a 7-5 victory versus the Guardians on Friday.
Analysis: Campusano came up with two big hits Friday -- a two-run double in the fifth inning to give San Diego its first lead and an RBI double in the seventh to provide an insurance run. The 27-year-old logged his fifth multi-hit effort over his past 11 contests, a span during which he's slashing a sizzling .410/.465/.590 with one homer, four doubles and 10 RBI. Campusano was replaced behind the plate by Freddy Fermin in the ninth inning, as Fermin remains the far superior defensive catcher. However, Campusano's bat has been so potent that he's started at catcher more often than Fermin of late.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Mashes 13th homer Friday
Sat, Aug 15, 2026, 12:55 PM
Tatis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Friday in a 7-5 win over Cleveland.
Analysis: Tatis' lone hit was a 404-foot solo homer to left field in fifth inning. The star outfielder appears to have discovered his power stroke this month -- he's gone deep five times across nine games since Aug. 5 after posting just eight long balls through his first 112 contests this season. Tatis has lifted his OPS over 30 points to .778 with the power surge, and he's now at 13 total long balls to go along with 28 stolen bases.
Wandy Peralta
Wandy Peralta Opening Saturday's contest
Sat, Aug 15, 2026, 9:51 AM
Peralta will serve as the Padres' opening pitcher in Saturday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: Peralta has given up 11 earned runs in 12.2 innings since the All-Star break, but the Padres will trust him to get through the first inning or two of Saturday's contest nonetheless. Randy Vasquez is likely to work in bulk relief once Peralta comes out of the game.
Michael King
Michael King Wins despite early trouble
Fri, Aug 14, 2026, 11:13 PM
King (8-8) allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out four across six innings in Friday's 7-5 win over Cleveland.
Analysis: King fell into an early hole, allowing three runs across the first three innings, including solo homers to Nathaniel Lowe and Brayan Rocchio. San Diego's offense eventually erased the deficit, and King settled down enough to complete six frames and earn his second consecutive win. The right-hander allowed only one additional run over his final three innings, lowering the damage despite giving up a season-high eight hits. King lowered his ERA to 3.41 with this outing and is scheduled to make his next start on the road against the Mets.
Brent Honeywell Jr.
Brent Honeywell Jr. Nets minors deal from Padres
Fri, Aug 14, 2026, 2:05 PM
The Padres signed Honeywell to a minor-league contract Friday, Jordan Shusterman of Yahoo Sports reports.
Analysis: Honeywell signed a minor-league deal with the Giants back in February but never made an appearance in the organization. In fact, the 30-year-old has not pitched in an official game since the 2024 World Series with the Dodgers. Honeywell will likely work in a relief role at Triple-A El Paso.
Xander Bogaerts
Xander Bogaerts Slugs 10th homer Wednesday
Thu, Aug 13, 2026, 1:25 PM
Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 4-3, extra-innings win over Milwaukee on Wednesday.
Analysis: Bogaerts plated the Padres' first run with a solo shot to left field in the third inning. The long ball snapped a 25-game stretch without a homer for the veteran shortstop, who batted a meager .205 with only four RBI during the power drought. Bogaerts has now belted double-digit home runs in 11 straight seasons, though he hasn't reached 20 long balls since the 2021 campaign, when he was still with Boston.
Robbie Ray
Robbie Ray Goes four innings Wednesday
Wed, Aug 12, 2026, 7:26 PM
Ray did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Brewers, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: Ray's now given up six runs in nine innings through his first two starts with San Diego after posting a 1.09 ERA over his final eight outings (49.1 innings) with the Giants before the trade deadline. Overall, Ray is 10-7 on the season with a 3.28 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 113:65 K:BB across 131.2 innings. He'll look to turn things around his next time out, tentatively slated to come next week on the road against the Mets.
David Morgan
David Morgan Activated and optioned
Wed, Aug 12, 2026, 3:08 PM
The Padres reinstated Morgan (knee) from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: San Diego didn't have room in its bullpen for Morgan and will stash him at Triple-A now that he's healthy again after he been on the shelf for about six weeks due to left knee inflammation. Morgan had provided a 4.50 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB in 22 innings over 18 appearances for San Diego prior to landing on the IL.
Luis Campusano
Luis Campusano Resting Wednesday
Wed, Aug 12, 2026, 3:04 PM
Campusano is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Analysis: Campusano will rest up for Wednesday's matinee after he caught all nine innings of the Padres' 11-2 win Tuesday night while going 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and an additional run. Freddy Fermin will spell Campusano behind the dish in the series finale.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Receiving off day for series finale
Wed, Aug 12, 2026, 11:58 AM
Tatis is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Analysis: Padres manager Craig Stammen will give Tatis a break while San Diego wraps up its three-game set with Milwaukee with a day game after a night game. Austin Hays will get the nod in right field in place of Tatis, who had started each of the last nine contests while going 9-for-36 (.250 average) with four home runs, three doubles, three walks, 10 runs and six RBI.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Continues power surge Tuesday
Wed, Aug 12, 2026, 11:53 AM
Tatis went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in an 11-2 win over Milwaukee on Tuesday.
Analysis: Tatis' loudest contribution was a solo blast to right field in the fourth inning. It was his fourth homer over his past seven contests, and the veteran slugger appears to finally be getting his power stroke going. Tatis didn't homer at all until his 56th contest of the campaign and had gone 12 straight games without a long ball prior to the aforementioned current seven-game power surge. His muscle has helped San Diego bolt into playoff position -- the Padres have won 14 of their past 18 contests and are now tied for the final wild-card spot in the National League.
Jackson Merrill
Jackson Merrill Launches game-winning long ball
Tue, Aug 11, 2026, 2:29 AM
Merrill went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Monday in a 3-2 win against the Brewers.
Analysis: Merrill came up big in the seventh inning, belting a two-run shot to center field to turn a one-run deficit into a one-run lead. It was the third straight game with a long ball for the center fielder, and the hit extended his on-base streak to 10 games spanning the entirety of August. Merrill is slashing .359/.390/.744 during that stretch with four homers, nine runs, 13 RBI and two stolen bases. His .712 season OPS remains mildly disappointing, but he's at a much more impressive 1.038 OPS across 24 contests since the All-Star break.
