Bryce Johnson
Bryce Johnson Key RBI in win
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 8:45 PM
Johnson started in right field and went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's victory over the Angels.
Analysis: Johnson drew a rare start with Fernando Tatis shifting to second base and made the most of the opportunity, notching two hits and driving in a key run in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 2-0 in a 2-1 win for the Padres. In 18 plate appearances this season, Johnson owns a .669 OPS and figures to continue seeing limited playing time in a loaded San Diego outfield that regularly features Ramon Laureano, Jackson Merrill and Tatis.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Secures eighth save
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 8:36 PM
Miller picked up the save Sunday against the Angels. He allowed no hits or walks while striking out two over a perfect inning.
Analysis: Miller made quick work of the Angels, retiring the side on 13 pitches to secure a series win for the Padres. Sunday marked the right-hander's second save in as many days and his eighth of the season, giving him sole possession of the MLB lead. The 27-year-old flamethrower has been virtually unhittable in 2026, posting a 0.00 ERA and 0.35 WHIP with a 27:2 K:BB across 11.1 innings, extending a scoreless streak which dates back to last season to 32.2 innings.
Michael King
Michael King Grinds for third win
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 8:19 PM
King (3-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing a hit and four walks over five scoreless innings against the Angels. He struck out six.
Analysis: King battled inconsistent control and needed 105 pitches to complete five innings but held the opposition scoreless en route to his third win of the campaign. The right-hander has won each of his past three starts and is off to an encouraging start in 2026, posting a 2.28 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across 27.2 innings (five starts). His next start is slated for the weekend on the road against the Diamondbacks.
Ty France
Ty France On bench, but playing time on rise
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 2:28 PM
France is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: France will head to the bench after he went 6-for-16 with a solo home run, a double and three additional runs while starting at first base in five of the Padres' previous six games. The Padres have an opening in their everyday lineup for one of France, Miguel Andujar and Nick Castellanos, and manager Craig Stammen looks like he could ride the hottest bat of the trio in the short term until one player clearly separates himself from the others.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Resting up Sunday
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 2:23 PM
Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: After taking a foul tip off his catcher's mask and being forced out of Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Mariners, Fermin didn't appear in the Padres' subsequent two games. He returned to the lineup Saturday and caught all nine innings of the Padres' 4-1 win, going 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs. Fermin didn't experience any reported setbacks coming out of that contest, so he's presumably just getting some rest for a day game after a night game.
Jake Cronenworth
Jake Cronenworth Taking seat Sunday
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 2:20 PM
Cronenworth is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Cronenworth was able to play the entirety of Saturday's 4-1 win after taking a Yusei Kikuchi fastball to the chin in the fifth inning, and though he reported no issues following the game, the Padres will elect to hold him out of the starting nine for the series finale in Anaheim. Fernando Tatis will receive his third start of the season at second base while Cronenworth rests up Sunday.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Back in starting nine
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 5:37 PM
Fermin (head) will start at catcher and bat eighth Saturday against the Angels.
Analysis: Fermin missed the Padres' last two games after taking a foul tip off his mask Wednesday, but he's been given the go-ahead to return behind the plate Saturday. The 30-year-old backstop hasn't found much offensive success in the early going, slashing .161/.270/.226 through his first 15 games.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Back to bench Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 5:26 PM
Andujar is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Andujar will not make the start against right-hander Jose Soriano, as Ty France is getting the nod at first base, with Nick Castellanos at designated hitter. Andujar has been out of the lineup four of the last five games for the Padres.
Ramon Laureano
Ramon Laureano Not in lineup Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 5:23 PM
Laureano is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Laureano has started 17 of the Padres' first 19 games but will get a breather for Friday's series opener against the Angels. With Laureano idle, Gavin Sheets is starting in left field, with Nick Castellanos at designated hitter and Ty France playing first base.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Remains idle Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 5:21 PM
Fermin (head) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Fermin will miss a second straight start after taking a foul tip off the mask Wednesday against the Mariners. Luis Campusano will make another start at catcher and bat ninth.
Alek Jacob
Alek Jacob Optioned to Triple-A
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 2:31 PM
The Padres optioned Jacob to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
Analysis: He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Matt Waldron, who will start Friday's game versus the Angels after being activated from the injured list. Jacob had just been recalled earlier this week and turned in a scoreless outing in his lone appearance out of the bullpen.
Matt Waldron
Matt Waldron Activated ahead of season debut
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 2:29 PM
The Padres activated Waldron (lower body) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Analysis: Waldron is set to make his season debut Friday with a start on the road against the Angels. The knuckleballer got a late start to the season after having hemorrhoid surgery in late February, but he looked sharp in a rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso, tossing 12 scoreless innings with a 12:1 K:BB. Waldron will have the opportunity to make additional starts for the Padres if he pitches well.
Adrian Morejon
Adrian Morejon Collects hold in Thursday's win
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 11:14 AM
Morejon secured a hold Thursday, working 1.2 perfect innings with two strikeouts in a 5-2 win over the Mariners.
Analysis: Morejon has had a bumpy start to the season after his All-Star campaign in 2025, when he pitched in 75 games and had career-best marks in ERA (2.08) and WHIP (0.90). The southpaw came into the season as the set-up guy for dominant closer Mason Miller and has three holds in eight appearances so far, but Morejon allowed at least one run in four of his first six outings. San Diego seems to still have faith in him, however, given he's been used in high-leverage situations each of his past two games.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Plates two runs
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 6:32 AM
Tatis went 1-for-2 with two RBI, a run scored and a walk in Thursday's win over the Mariners.
Analysis: He plated two runs with a two-out single that scored both Luis Campusano and Jake Cronenworth as part of a four-run second inning for the Padres. Tatis has hit safely in seven of his last eighth starts, and the star outfielder has been the engine driving the Padres offense during that stretch. He's hitting .255 with a .642 OPS since the beginning of April, but during that eight-start stretch, he sports a .323 batting average with a .733 OPS.
Walker Buehler
Walker Buehler Secures first win of season
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 6:11 AM
Buehler (1-0) earned the win Thursday against the Mariners, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven across five innings.
Analysis: Buehler has bounced back effectively after allowing four runs in 2.2 innings against the Red Sox on April 5. He's given up just two runs on eight hits with an impressive 11:1 K:BB across 11 innings over his last two home starts, with Thursday's seven strikeouts being a season high. Buehler is scheduled to make his next start on the road against the Rockies next week.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Secures sixth save Thursday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 5:26 AM
Miller pitched a scoreless inning and struck out the side Thursday against the Mariners to earn his sixth save of the season.
Analysis: Miller has yet to allow a run this season, and dating back to the 2025 campaign, he's now thrown 30.2 consecutive scoreless innings, sitting three shy of Cia Meredith's franchise record. The right-hander's allowed just one hit in 9.1 innings in 2026 and has struck out 10 of the last 12 batters he's faced. Miller's last blown save came Aug. 5 of last season, when he worked the eighth inning in front of Robert Suarez. His last blown ninth-inning chance came on June 19, while he was still with the A's.
Sung-Mun Song
Sung-Mun Song Activated, optioned to Triple-A
Thu, Apr 16, 2026, 3:46 PM
The Padres reinstated Song (oblique) from the injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: Song landed on the injured list at the start of the regular season due to a right oblique strain but has been playing rehab games with El Paso since March 27. He's slashed .276/.364/.310 with 10 RBI and seven runs scored across 16 games during his assignment and will officially remain in the minors now that he's fully healthy.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Not in Thursday's lineup
Thu, Apr 16, 2026, 3:25 PM
Fermin (head) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Mariners.
Analysis: Fermin had to depart Wednesday's contest after taking a foul tip to the mask. Per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune, Fermin does not have concussion symptoms and expects to be available off the bench, though the Padres' team doctor will have the final say. Luis Campusano is catching and batting eighth for San Diego in Thursday's series finale.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Exits early Wednesday
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 9:23 PM
Fermin was removed from Wednesday's game against the Mariners with an apparent injury, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Fermin was immediately pulled from the game after taking a Brendan Donovan foul tip off his mask in the third inning. He'll presumably be evaluated for a concussion; meanwhile, Luis Campusano will take over behind the plate and start any games that Fermin may have to miss.
Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Diagnosed with flexor strain
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 5:54 PM
Padres manager Craig Stammen told reporters Wednesday that Pivetta was diagnosed with a right flexor strain, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Per Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Sports Association, Stammen believes that Pivetta is looking at "weeks, maybe months" of rehab and rest. That kind of timeline indicates that Pivetta will be out of action until the summer, potentially through the All-Star break in mid-July. Matt Waldron (lower body) is slated to take Pivetta's spot in the rotation later this week once the former is activated from the 15-day IL.
