Jason Adam
Jason Adam Hits IL with shoulder strain
Thu, Jul 2, 2026, 5:42 PM
The Padres placed Adam on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to Tuesday, with a right shoulder strain.
Analysis: In a corresponding move, the Padres reinstated German Marquez (forearm) from the 15-day injured list. Adam will be eligible to return after the All-Star break if he's recovered by then. The reliever had a 0.90 ERA heading into June, but he had a 5.11 ERA across his 12.1 innings pitched during that month.
German Marquez
German Marquez Returning from forearm injury
Thu, Jul 2, 2026, 5:35 PM
The Padres reinstated Marquez (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Analysis: The Padres have Marquez returning healthy as the they place Jason Adam on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder sprain. Marquez was placed on the 15-day injured list May 3 due to right forearm nerve irritation, which ended up costing him two months.
Sung-Mun Song
Sung-Mun Song Swats first MLB homer
Thu, Jul 2, 2026, 11:59 AM
Song went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a blowout loss to the Cubs on Wednesday.
Analysis: The Padres didn't have much to celebrate on a day when they were blown out of the water by a 23-3 margin. However, Song enjoyed a personal milestone when he hit his first major-league home run with a 385-foot solo blast in the fifth inning. The 29-year-old hasn't shown much power so far with a .100 ISO through 69 plate appearances, though he's demonstrated good plate discipline with a 9:13 BB:K and has swiped six bases on eight attempts.
German Marquez
German Marquez Pitches in relief again at Triple-A
Thu, Jul 2, 2026, 10:46 AM
Marquez (forearm) recorded two outs and allowed three earned runs on three hits and one walk during his rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: Marquez kicked off his rehab assignment June 2 and started in each of his first four appearances for El Paso, maxing out at five innings and 73 pitches. While his usage seemed to indicate that the Padres were considering Marquez for a spot in the rotation upon his return from the 15-day injured list, the veteran righty now appears to be preparing for a bullpen role. He's worked in relief in his last two outings for El Paso, striking out three while allowing four runs on six hits and three walks in 2.1 innings between those contests. Marquez's 30-day rehab window officially came to a close Wednesday, so the Padres could look to activate him at some point during their upcoming four-game series with the Dodgers.
Walker Buehler
Walker Buehler Hammered for season-worst nine runs
Wed, Jul 1, 2026, 4:51 PM
Buehler (5-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing nine runs on seven hits and four walks in four innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: Working under tough conditions at scorching Wrigley Field, Buehler floundered in what was a season-worst outing. The veteran right-hander gave up more than five runs for the first time this year, rather harshly breaking up a string of five consecutive starts where he allowed just one run in each. Buehler's ERA swelled to 4.61 and his WHIP to 1.38 to go with a 76:30 K:BB over 82 innings, so he'll be looking to erase Wednesday's disaster his next time out versus Arizona.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Sitting after four straight starts
Wed, Jul 1, 2026, 12:00 PM
Andujar is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: Andujar started each of the last four games -- twice against lefties, twice against righties -- and went 6-for-14 with two doubles, one walk and one run. He should remain a regular presence in the lineup versus southpaws, but Andujar may have to settle for a part-time role against righties while the Padres seem to be prioritizing Ty France over him for the final spot in the everyday lineup.
Samad Taylor
Samad Taylor Heading to bench Wednesday
Wed, Jul 1, 2026, 11:57 AM
Taylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: Taylor will exit the lineup for the first time since June 15, breaking a streak of 13 consecutive starts. Since being called up from Triple-A El Paso on June 3, Taylor has been able to take control of an everyday role in the outfield and of the No. 2 spot in the San Diego lineup by slashing .329/.414/.382 with one home run, six stolen bases, 11 RBI and 12 runs through 21 games. Taylor should remain a strong source of steals while he continues to play regularly, but fantasy managers should plan for a further downturn in his batting average, which has been propped up by a .490 BABIP.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Idle Wednesday
Wed, Jul 1, 2026, 11:49 AM
Fermin is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: Fermin will rest for Wednesday's matinee game after he started at catcher in the first two contests of the series. Rodolfo Duran will step in behind the dish Wednesday and will bat eighth.
Jake Cronenworth
Jake Cronenworth Sitting Tuesday
Tue, Jun 30, 2026, 5:49 PM
Cronenworth is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: After being activated from the injured list Monday, the left-handed-hitting Cronenworth drew a start against Cubs lefty Shota Imanaga in the series opener and went 0-for-3 on the night. Chicago is sending another southpaw (Matthew Boyd) to the hill for the second game of the series, and the Padres will elect to give Cronenworth a breather this time. Jase Bowen will serve as Cronenworth's replacement in the starting nine and will bat eighth.
Griffin Canning
Griffin Canning Fades after solid three frames
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 11:24 PM
Canning completed 4.1 innings against the Cubs on Monday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters in a no-decision.
Analysis: Canning returned to a traditional starting role Monday after working behind an opener in each of his previous two starts. The veteran righty allowed the first two batters he faced to reach base, but he got through the first three frames without giving up any runs. Canning faded in the fourth, though, allowing a run on two hits and a HBP. He returned for the fifth and recorded just one out before being pulled with two runners on base, one of whom scored following his departure. Canning wasn't abysmal Monday, but he threw only 40 of 75 pitches for strikes and didn't exactly make an emphatic statement in his battle to retain a starting spot. With German Marquez (forearm) nearing activation, it isn't certain that Canning will take his next turn in the rotation.
Will Wagner
Will Wagner Sent back to Triple-A
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 6:48 PM
The Padres optioned Wagner to Triple-A El Paso on Monday.
Analysis: Wagner served as a strong-side platoon player for most of his three-week stay in the big leagues, slashing .257/.422/.286 while scoring five runs in 16 games. Since Wagner was likely to become an odd man out of the lineup with another left-handed hitter in Jake Cronenworth (concussion) returning from the 7-day injured list Moday, the Padres opted to send the 27-year-old to Triple-A so that he can continue to play regularly.
David Morgan
David Morgan Shelved with knee inflammation
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 6:44 PM
The Padres placed Morgan on the 15-day injured list Monday due to left knee inflammation.
Analysis: The injury may have cropped up following Morgan's most recent relief appearance against the Dodgers on Friday, when he struck out two but allowed one run on two hits. He'll be replaced in the San Diego bullpen by right-hander Bradgley Rodriguez, who was called up from Double-A San Antonio. Morgan owns a 4.50 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB across 22 innings in the majors this season.
Bradgley Rodriguez
Bradgley Rodriguez Rejoining big-league bullpen
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 6:41 PM
The Padres recalled Rodriguez from Double-A San Antonio on Monday.
Analysis: San Diego initially sent Rodriguez to the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on June 19, a move that was made to build in some rest for the hard-throwing right-hander. Rodriguez eventually moved up to San Antonio, with whom he made his lone appearance Sunday before getting the call back to the big leagues. The 22-year-old has been exceptional during his time with San Diego this season (2.10 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB in 34.1 innings), but due to the number of quality arms in the bullpen, Rodriguez may have to settle for a middle-relief role.
Gavin Sheets
Gavin Sheets On bench against lefty
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 6:36 PM
Sheets is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: The Padres will send the left-handed-hitting Sheets to the bench while southpaw Shota Imanaga take the hill for the Cubs in the series opener. With Sheets taking a seat, Ty France will draw the start at first base and Miguel Andujar will serve as San Diego's designated hitter.
Rodolfo Duran
Rodolfo Duran Retreating to bench
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 6:34 PM
Duran is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: For about a two-week stretch earlier this month, Duran served as the Padres' No. 1 catcher, but he's faded into more of a timeshare since Freddy Fermin returned from the 7-day injured list Tuesday. Though Fermin and Duran have now started three times apiece over the last six games, the playing time will likely tilt more in Fermin's direction once he's further removed from a concussion.
Ty France
Ty France Rejoining lineup Monday
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 6:30 PM
France (wrist) will start at first base and bat fifth in Monday's game against the Cubs.
Analysis: France didn't start in either of the final two games of the Padres' weekend series versus the Dodgers while he dealt with a sore wrist, but he was able to come off the bench to make a pinch-hitting appearance in Sunday's 4-2 loss. Though he was hit by a pitch in his lone trip to the plate, France stayed in the game and went on to play the final inning at first base. He'll now rejoin the starting nine for the series opener in Chicago and will look to continue what's been a productive offensive run of late. Over his last eight games, France has gotten on base at a .407 clip while mashing four home runs and two doubles and driving in 10 runs.
Luis Campusano
Luis Campusano Ready for rehab assignment
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 4:10 PM
Campusano (toe) will embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso later this week, Annie Heilbrunn of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Campusano is ready to take the next step in his recovery from a left toe fracture that landed him on the injured list in early May. Rodolfo Duran has served as the Padres' backup catcher behind Freddy Fermin, but the former would likely be optioned to Triple-A once Campusano is ready to return from the 10-day IL. Barring any setbacks, Campusano could be back with the big club in early-to-mid July, perhaps prior to the All-Star break.
Jake Cronenworth
Jake Cronenworth Back in action after IL stint
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 3:27 PM
The Padres reinstated Cronenworth (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Monday. He'll start at second base and bat ninth in the Padres' series opener versus the Cubs.
Analysis: San Diego optioned infielder/designated hitter Will Wagner to Triple-A El Paso to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Cronenworth, who returns to the Padres after a nearly two-month stint on the shelf. Cronenworth proved his health last week during a three-game rehab stint with El Paso, going 3-for-12 with a home run and a double while making one start apiece at second base, designated hitter and shortstop. The 32-year-old is likely to see most of his playing time at the keystone, which will result in Fernando Tatis transitioning back into more of a full-time role in right field after he split time between the infield and outfield while Cronenworth was out of commission.
Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Completes light bullpen session
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 1:02 PM
Pivetta (forearm) threw a light bullpen session Saturday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Pivetta likely didn't incorporate all of his pitchers or throw at full intensity, but the bullpen session is a step forward nonetheless as he works his way back from a flexor strain. The right-hander will need to complete multiple side sessions before advancing to facing hitters in live batting practice and eventually heading out on an extended rehab assignment. The Padres haven't pinpointed a target date for his return, but Pivetta's stay on the 60-day injured list will likely be extended through at least late July or early August.
German Marquez
German Marquez Making another rehab start
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 12:41 PM
Marquez (forearm) will make another rehab start with Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Marquez had been scheduled to pitch for El Paso on Sunday, but he was a healthy scratch because he was under consideration to start for the Padres on Monday. However, that assignment will go to Griffin Canning, and Marquez will continue his rehab assignment. Working his way back from right forearm nerve irritation, Marquez has authored a 2.12 ERA and 13:7 K:BB over 17 innings thus far on his rehab assignment. The Padres will need to make a roster decision on Marquez following Tuesday's outing, as his 30-day rehab window is slated to run out soon.
