Luis Campusano
Luis Campusano Ready for rehab assignment
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 4:10 PM
Campusano (toe) will embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso later this week, Annie Heilbrunn of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Campusano is ready to take the next step in his recovery from a left toe fracture that landed him on the injured list in early May. Rodolfo Duran has served as the Padres' backup catcher behind Freddy Fermin, but the former would likely be optioned to Triple-A once Campusano has been cleared to be reinstated from the 10-day IL. Barring any setbacks, Campusano could be back with the big club in early-to-mid July, perhaps prior to the All-Star break.
Jake Cronenworth
Jake Cronenworth Back in action after IL stint
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 3:27 PM
The Padres reinstated Cronenworth (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Monday.
Analysis: San Diego optioned infielder/designated hitter Will Wagner to Triple-A El Paso to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Cronenworth, who returns to the Padres after a nearly two-month stint on the shelf. Cronenworth proved his health last week during a three-game rehab stint with El Paso, going 3-for-12 with a home run and a double while making one start apiece at second base, designated hitter and shortstop. The 32-year-old is likely to see most of his playing time at the keystone, which will result in Fernando Tatis transitioning back into more of a full-time role in right field after he split time between the infield and outfield while Cronenworth was out of commission.
Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Completes light bullpen session
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 1:02 PM
Pivetta (forearm) threw a light bullpen session Saturday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Pivetta likely didn't incorporate all of his pitchers or throw at full intensity, but the bullpen session is a step forward nonetheless as he works his way back from a flexor strain. The right-hander will need to complete multiple side sessions before advancing to facing hitters in live batting practice and eventually heading out on an extended rehab assignment. The Padres haven't pinpointed a target date for his return, but Pivetta's stay on the 60-day injured list will likely be extended through at least late July or early August.
German Marquez
German Marquez Making another rehab start
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 12:41 PM
Marquez (forearm) will make another rehab start with Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Marquez had been scheduled to pitch for El Paso on Sunday, but he was a healthy scratch because he was under consideration to start for the Padres on Monday. However, that assignment will go to Griffin Canning, and Marquez will continue his rehab assignment. Working his way back from right forearm nerve irritation, Marquez has authored a 2.12 ERA and 13:7 K:BB over 17 innings thus far on his rehab assignment. The Padres will need to make a roster decision on Marquez following Tuesday's outing, as his 30-day rehab window is slated to run out soon.
Ty France
Ty France Enters off bench Sunday
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 11:12 AM
France (wrist) was hit by a pitch after entering as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Dodgers.
Analysis: France hasn't started since being struck on the wrist by a Roki Sasaki fastball Friday. The veteran infielder had X-rays this weekend that returned negative, and manager Craig Stammen has said that France isn't expected to need a stint on the injured list. That notion was supported Sunday when France entered the contest as a replacement for Gavin Sheets. France got beaned again in that plate appearance -- this time on the left elbow -- but didn't appear to be in any pain and ran the bases before finishing the game on defense at first base. France could return to the starting lineup as soon as Monday's series opener in Chicago against the Cubs.
Griffin Canning
Griffin Canning Starting Monday
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 10:16 PM
Canning will draw the start on the mound in Monday's contest against the Cubs, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Canning will operate as a traditional starter in the series opener versus Chicago after following an opener in each of his last two appearances. The right-hander has given up 12 runs on 14 hits and nine walks while striking out 10 batters and hitting another over 10 innings in his last three outings, and he'll be squaring off with a Cubs squad that has won six of its last seven contests.
German Marquez
German Marquez Could be in mix to pitch Monday
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 9:34 PM
Marquez (forearm) didn't make his scheduled rehab start Sunday with Triple-A El Paso and could return from the 15-day injured list to appear Monday in the Padres' series opener against the Cubs in Chicago, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Marquez had already made five rehab appearances (four starts) with El Paso this month, building up to as many five innings and 73 pitches back on June 17. Though he had been scheduled to start Sunday, Marquez ended up working out of the El Paso bullpen in his most recent appearance Tuesday, when he struck out three and allowed one run over 1.2 innings. The Padres seem to be keeping their options open with Marquez's role for when he returns, but if he's activated Monday, he'll most likely be deployed as a starter -- albeit on a limited pitch count -- or a bulk reliever. Griffin Canning is also available on five days' rest and could be part of Monday's pitching plan.
Matt Waldron
Matt Waldron Makes third rehab appearance
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 9:27 PM
Waldron (forearm) struck out four and allowed two earned runs on two hits and four walks across 2.2 innings Thursday in a rehab start with Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: Waldron has now made three rehab starts with El Paso and built up to 59 pitches during Thursday's outing. Though the Padres are seemingly letting Waldron get stretched back out as a starter, he may need to show improved results on the farm in order to get a look in the big-league rotation.
Jackson Merrill
Jackson Merrill Notches another steal
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 6:20 PM
Merrill went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Dodgers.
Analysis: Merrill has gone 14-for-55 (.255) over his last 13 games, a span that includes seven steals. The outfielder wasn't running all that much early in the season -- he's up to 17 thefts on 18 attempts now, but he has picked up the pace in the last couple of weeks. He's batting .212 with a .618 OPS, eight home runs, 31 RBI, 35 runs scored, 15 doubles and one triple over 79 games on the season.
Manny Machado
Manny Machado Homers in Sunday's loss
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 6:18 PM
Machado went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Dodgers.
Analysis: Machado has had a homer and a double in three of his last eight games. He is hitting .321 (9-for-28) with eight RBI in that span, showing some signs of life after what's largely been a disappointing first half aside from steady power production. The third baseman is still batting just .188 on the year with a .664 OPS, 15 homers, 44 RBI, 39 runs scored, 15 doubles and one stolen base over 80 contests.
Michael King
Michael King Battles control problems
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 6:16 PM
King (5-7) allowed four runs on three hits, four walks and two hit batsmen while striking out five over 4.1 innings to take the loss versus the Dodgers on Sunday.
Analysis: King threw just 54 of 90 pitches for strikes. His sharp outing versus Atlanta last Monday looks like the anomaly -- he's walked at least three batters in three of his last four starts, and he's also plunked three batters over that span. King is at a 3.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 83:39 K:BB through 96.1 innings over 17 starts this season. He is projected to make his next start in a road rematch with the Dodgers.
JP Sears
JP Sears Handed another start
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 5:36 PM
Sears will start Tuesday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, Annie Heilbrunn of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Sears will receive a second turn through the rotation after coming up from Triple-A El Paso and submitting a strong effort in his 2026 MLB debut last Wednesday. In a home matchup with Atlanta, Sears struck out five batters and yielded two earned runs on five hits and two walks across 5.2 innings en route to claiming a win. Sears' numbers at the Triple-A level this season (7.92 ERA, 1.84 WHIP in 63.2 innings) have been less than stellar, however, so fantasy managers may want to tread carefully while he heads into a two-start week against a pair of tough opponents on the road. After Tuesday's outing, Sears will line up for a second start versus the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Nick Solak
Nick Solak Returns to Padres organization
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 5:13 PM
Solak and the Padres agreed on a minor-league contract Sunday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Solak briefly tested the free agency waters after being designated for assignment by the Padres on June 21, but he'll now return to the organization. The 31-year-old will report to Triple-A El Paso.
Will Wagner
Will Wagner Exiting lineup Sunday
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 3:23 PM
Wagner is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
Analysis: Since Wagner was called up from Triple-A El Paso on June 9, most of his absences from the lineup have come against left-handed pitching, but he'll take a seat against right-hander Emmet Sheehan on Sunday. Wagner is getting on base at a robust .432 clip since his promotion, but he's offered little value thus far in traditional 5x5 rotisserie leagues with a .265 average, zero home runs, zero RBI, zero steals and five runs over 15 games.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Resting Sunday
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 3:20 PM
Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
Analysis: Since he was activated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday, Fermin has started twice behind the plate while Rodolfo Duran has caught the other three games. Though he has a longer track record at the big-league level, Fermin could be used in a timeshare with Duran until he's further removed from the concussion he sustained June 13.
Ty France
Ty France Not in Sunday's lineup
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 12:08 PM
France (wrist) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
Analysis: France is sitting for a second consecutive game after being hit by a pitch in the wrist during Friday's contest. The first baseman already had X-rays come back negative and isn't expected to require an IL stint, so it's possible he's available off the bench Sunday.
Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Could throw off mound soon
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 7:25 PM
Pivetta (forearm) has advanced to playing long toss and could soon begin throwing off a mound, per MLB.com.
Analysis: Pivetta has been sidelined by a right flexor strain since mid-April. The right-handed hurler began a throwing program in late May, but he's yet to throw from a mound. With that big step potentially looming, it appears Pivetta is making tangible progress in his recovery. Nonetheless, he's not expected to return to San Diego's rotation until sometime after the All-Star break.
Jake Cronenworth
Jake Cronenworth Goes deep in first rehab game
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 6:55 PM
Cronenworth (concussion) went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double Friday in a rehab appearance with Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: Cronenworth was originally slated to make his first rehab appearance Thursday, but he had to wait an extra day while the process of receiving full medical clearance was completed. The veteran outfielder seemed to be champing at the bit to get back given his first place appearance Friday, as he walloped a 413-foot two-run homer to right field. It was Cronenworth's first game action since May 4, so he'll presumably need several more contests in the minors before he's ready to be activated.
Ty France
Ty France X-rays on wrist negative
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 6:31 PM
France, who was hit in the wrist by a pitch against the Dodgers on Friday, had X-rays return negative, but he's out of Saturday's lineup, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: France was nailed in the wrist by a Roki Sasaki fastball in the fourth inning Friday. The veteran infielder initially stayed in the game but was then replaced by Miguel Andujar at first base in the ninth inning. The good news for France is that X-rays returned negative, but he's nonetheless beginning on the bench for Saturday's matchup. Manager Craig Stammen said Saturday that France isn't looking at an IL stint and that he'll be available off the bench for the evening contest, so it doesn't sound like the infielder is dealing with a serious injury.
Kyle Hart
Kyle Hart Opening Saturday
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 3:40 PM
Hart will serve as the opening pitcher in Saturday's game against the Dodgers.
Analysis: Hart has given up just one run in 7.1 innings since joining the big club June 15, and the Padres will now trust him to handle the top of the Dodgers' order to begin the game. He'll likely work an inning or two before handing the game over to bulk reliever Randy Vasquez.
