Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Out of Wednesday's lineup
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 2:36 PM
Fermin is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Fermin has yet to pick up a hit since May 14 while in the midst of an 0-for-26 slide at the plate, and he will take a seat Wednesday after starting five of the previous six games. Rodolfo Duran will replace him at catcher and bat ninth in the order.
Samad Taylor
Samad Taylor Added to MLB roster
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 1:39 PM
The Padres selected Taylor's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.
Analysis: Taylor was elevated to the big-league club after slashing .319/.406/.500 with the Triple-A squad. The 25-year-old was most recently in the majors with Seattle in 2025, though he recorded just eight at-bats. Taylor will replace Nick Castellanos on the active roster after the latter was designated for assignment.
Nick Castellanos
Nick Castellanos DFA'd by San Diego
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 1:37 PM
The Padres designated Castellanos for assignment Wednesday.
Analysis: The Padres gladly scooped Castellanos up for the league minimum in February after he was cut loose by the Phillies, but he simply didn't hit enough to justify a roster spot, slashing only .191/.221/.339 with four home runs and a 5:34 BB:K over 39 contests. The 34-year-old Castellanos could be hard-pressed to find another major-league contract at this point.
Jeremiah Estrada
Jeremiah Estrada Responsible for loss
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 1:12 PM
Estrada (2-2) picked up the loss after giving up the eventual game-winning run in a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Analysis: Estrada entered the game in the bottom of the sixth with the score tied at 2-2. The 27-year-old allowed Bryce Harper to cross home plate as the go-ahead run as a result of an Alec Bohm double play, limiting the damage at just one run. Estrada has given up two earned runs in his last two appearances after previously pitching 4.2 scoreless innings. The right-hander now sports a 3.48 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB through 20.2 innings this season.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Three hits in Tuesday's loss
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 8:44 AM
Tatis went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies.
Analysis: Extra-base hits have been hard to come by for Tatis this season, but he doubled to lead off the game before adding a couple groundball singles later in the contest. The 27-year-old has six multi-hit performances in the last eight contests, batting a blistering .485 (16-for-33) over that stretch, but just three of those knocks -- two doubles and his first homer of 2026 -- have gone for extra bases.
Randy Vasquez
Randy Vasquez Settles for no-decision Tuesday
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 8:39 AM
Vasquez didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: A two-run homer by Bryce Harper in the fourth inning accounted for all the damage off Vasquez, but the right-hander left the mound after 80 pitches (46 strikes) with the score tied 2-2. Vasquez has been taken deep five times in his last three outings and eight times in his last seven, producing a 4.42 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB in 36.2 innings over that stretch. He'll try to keep the ball in the park in his next start, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Mets.
Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Shifts to 60-day IL
Tue, Jun 2, 2026, 4:44 PM
The Padres transferred Pivetta (forearm) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
Analysis: The right-hander landed on the shelf in mid-April due to a flexor strain and isn't expected back anytime soon, so the move to the 60-day IL doesn't affect his return outlook. Pivetta recently returned to playing catch, but he still has a significant way to go in his throwing program before returning to game action.
Called up, debuting Tuesday
Tue, Jun 2, 2026, 4:29 PM
The Padres selected Bowen's contract from Triple-A El Paso, and he's starting in left field and batting seventh Tuesday against the Phillies.
Analysis: The 25-year-old is taking the place of Ramon Laureano (hip), who was placed on the injured list Tuesday. Bowen will be making his MLB debut and has a decent path to playing time due to Laureano being hurt and Nick Castellanos struggling to a .560 OPS. Bowen has a .292/.362/.600 slash line with 13 home runs and seven steals in 49 games with El Paso this year.
Ramon Laureano
Ramon Laureano Out with hip issue
Tue, Jun 2, 2026, 2:40 PM
The Padres placed Laureano on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to May 31, due to right hip inflammation.
Analysis: It's unclear when Laureano sustained the injury, but he hasn't seen the field since going 0-for-3 with a walk and a caught stealing Saturday against the Nationals. The veteran outfielder was slumping hard prior to the injury with a .524 OPS over 25 games in May, so the Padres seem likely to send him for a rehab assignment to help him right the ship, regardless of how long he's on the shelf.
German Marquez
German Marquez Making rehab start Tuesday
Tue, Jun 2, 2026, 1:28 PM
Marquez (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.
Analysis: Marquez has been shelved for the past month after going down with right forearm nerve irritation, but the veteran right-hander resumed throwing in mid-May and has been cleared to pitch in a rehab setting after facing hitters last week. It's not clear how many rehab starts the Padres will ask Marquez to make. He held a 5.76 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 19:12 K:BB across 29.2 innings before getting hurt.
Bound for big leagues
Mon, Jun 1, 2026, 12:24 PM
The Padres are expected to call up Bowen from Triple-A El Paso prior to Tuesday's game in Philadelphia, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Bowen will receive his first promotion to the majors after a strong start to the season at El Paso, with whom he's produced a .292/.362/.600 slash line to go with 13 home runs and seven steals across 222 plate appearances. Even when factoring in the hitter-friendly conditions of the Pacific Coast League, Bowen was still an above-average performer at the Triple-A level with a 121 wRC+. While the right-handed-hitting Bowen may see most of his opportunities against left-handed pitching initially, the Padres rank 29th in the majors with a .294 wOBA as a team, so he could eventually get a look as a full-time player if he gets off to a hot start in the big leagues.
Jhony Brito
Jhony Brito Excels in latest rehab start
Mon, Jun 1, 2026, 10:37 AM
Brito (forearm) struck out four batters and allowed one hit and no walks over six shutout innings Friday in a rehab start for Double-A San Antonio.
Analysis: Though Brito has a minor-league option remaining, he's been making a compelling case during his rehab assignment to join the Padres as a depth starter or multi-inning option out of the bullpen once he's activated from the 60-day injured list. Brito -- who underwent a UCL internal brace and flexor tendon surgery last May -- has looked good thus far through five rehab appearances between stops in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and San Antonio. Altogether, Brito has posted a 3.72 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB in 19.1 innings. After spotting 37 of his 52 pitches for strikes during Friday's outing, Brito will likely make one more start in the minors to get further stretched out before his 30-day rehab window draws to a close.
Griffin Canning
Griffin Canning Falls to 0-4
Sun, May 31, 2026, 4:11 PM
Canning (0-4) took the loss Sunday against the Nationals, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Canning held the Nats off the board until the fourth inning, when Luis Garcia led off the frame with a solo home run. James Wood would then add a two-run shot in the fifth, which proved to be enough to stick Canning with the loss in an eventual 4-2 defeat. Through his first six starts this year, Canning sports an ugly 7.16 ERA with a 1.55 WHIP and 27:15 K:BB over 27.2 innings. He'll look to get into the win column his next time out, tentatively scheduled to come at home against the Mets.
Xander Bogaerts
Xander Bogaerts Goes deep Saturday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 11:29 AM
Bogaerts went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk against Washington in a loss Saturday.
Analysis: Bogaerts kicked off the scoring with a 417-foot solo shot to center field in the second inning. The long ball was his first since he went deep in back-to-back games May 5-6. The veteran infielder has struggled at the plate since those pair of contests, batting just .181 with only four RBI over 20 contests. However, he did swipe five bases during that span and is 9-for-9 on theft attempts this season.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Handed day off
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:37 AM
Andujar is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Analysis: Andujar will check out of the lineup for the first time since May 9, ending a streak of 18 consecutive starts. Signed to a modest one-year, $4 million contract in February, Andujar has emerged as a key part of the San Diego lineup this season, with his 107 wRC+ placing him third on the team among players with at least 100 plate appearances.
Ramon Laureano
Ramon Laureano Resting up Sunday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:33 AM
Laureano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Analysis: The Padres will give Laureano a breather for Sunday's day game after he went 2-for-21 with a solo home run, two steals and an additional run while starting in the team's last six contests. San Diego will go with Nick Castellanos and Fernando Tatis as its starters in the corner outfield in the series finale while Laureano sits.
Manny Machado
Manny Machado Goes deep in loss
Sat, May 30, 2026, 6:57 PM
Machado went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Nationals.
Analysis: Machado launched a solo blast in the fourth inning before adding an RBI double in the eighth, notching his first multi-hit effort since May 3. The third baseman has gone deep four times over his past 10 games, though he's hit just 6-for-36 during that stretch. For the year, he's slashing a disappointing .178/.272/.360 with 10 homers, 30 RBI, 28 runs scored and one stolen base across 229 plate appearances.
Michael King
Michael King Falters late in loss
Sat, May 30, 2026, 6:40 PM
King (4-4) took the loss against the Nationals on Saturday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts over six innings.
Analysis: King allowed just one run through six innings before failing to record an out and being charged with four more (three earned) in the seventh. The 31-year-old has now surrendered four earned runs in each of his last two outings while suffering consecutive losses for the first time this season. He still owns a solid 3.04 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 65:29 K:BB across 68 innings and will look to get back on track in a home matchup against the Mets next weekend.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Finally goes deep in loss
Sat, May 30, 2026, 6:29 PM
Tatis went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Nationals.
Analysis: Tatis launched his first home run of the year 451 feet in the fifth inning. Per Todd Dybas of MLB.com, his 55-game drought to open the season was the second-longest ever by a player who had previously hit 40-plus homers in a season. Despite the lack of power, the 27-year-old has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games with three RBI, six runs scored and four stolen bases. On the year, he's slashing .271/.346/.324 with one long ball, 18 RBI, 21 runs scored and 14 steals across 241 plate appearances.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Nails down 12th hold Friday
Sat, May 30, 2026, 2:08 PM
Adam allowed two hits and no runs over one-third of an inning against the Nationals on Friday.
Analysis: Adam entered with one out and the Padres up 7-5 in the eighth inning and got into some trouble, giving up back-to-back singles. However, Adam got Jorbit Vivas to fly out for the first out in the frame, then Mason Miller finished off the inning without allowing any Nationals to cross the plate. While Adam's outing Friday was far from his best, the right-hander posted his 12th straight scoreless appearance. He's once again been very effective out of San Diego's bullpen, recording a 0.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB while picking up one save and a team-leading 12 holds through 19 innings spanning 21 appearances.
