Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Records three hits in victory
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 6:35 PM
Andujar went 3-for-5 with a double and run scored in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox.
Analysis: Andujar got the start at designated hitter and hit third against lefty Connelly Early and was the only Padres player to record multiple hits Saturday. He doubled in the third inning and later scored on a Freddy Fermin double. Andujar is now slashing .300/.333/.450 with three extra-base hits, two RBI and two runs scored across 21 trips to the plate this season. With left-hander Ranger Suarez starting for the Red Sox on Sunday, Andujar should be in the lineup.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Picks up third save Saturday
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 6:29 PM
Miller picked up the save in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox, recording three strikeouts in a hitless and scoreless ninth inning.
Analysis: Miller needed 11 pitches to blow the Red Sox away in the bottom of the ninth inning, generating four whiffs. The right-hander now has three saves in three appearances this season and has yet to allow a run with an 8:1 K:BB across 3.1 innings. Miller remains in the top tier of fantasy closers.
Randy Vasquez
Randy Vasquez Pitches well again in no-decision
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 6:23 PM
Vasquez (1-0) didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Red Sox, allowing one run on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts across six innings.
Analysis: Vasquez's day was done with a 2-1 lead, but Adrian Morejon allowed a couple hits and a run in the eighth inning to knot the game up at 2-2 and cost Vasquez another win. Vasquez's fastball velocity was back down to his 2025 levels of 93.6 mph after throwing it 95.0 mph in last Saturday's win over Detroit. It will be interesting to see if Vasquez is able to get the velocity back up in next week's start against the Rockies. Vasquez will carry a 0.75 ERA and 11:4 K:BB across 12 innings into his next outing.
Jackson Merrill
Jackson Merrill Riding pine Saturday
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 12:00 PM
Merrill isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox.
Analysis: Merrill doesn't typically step out of the lineup against left-handed starters, but after a 5-for-27 (.185) start to the season, he'll sit on the bench, with Connelly Early on the mound for Boston. Bryce Johnson will pick up a start in center field as a result and bat ninth.
Michael King
Michael King Allows four runs in loss
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 3:53 PM
King (0-1) took the loss against the Red Sox on Friday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
Analysis: King was charged with runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings, exiting with two outs in the sixth before an inherited runner came around to score. Despite the final line, he threw 58 of 81 pitches for strikes and walked just one batter after issuing four free passes in his March 27 debut. The 30-year-old owns an 11:5 K:BB across 10.2 innings this season after missing most of the 2025 campaign due to injury and lines up for a road matchup against the Pirates next week.
Nick Castellanos
Nick Castellanos Not in San Diego lineup
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 9:10 AM
Castellanos is out of the lineup for Friday's game in Boston.
Analysis: Castellanos' playing time early in his tenure with the Padres has been erratic. He did not start the first two games of the season, then started three straight and has now been back on the bench for two games in a row. Miguel Andujar is in the designated hitter spot for San Diego, and he and Castellanos are likely to continue sharing playing time in the slot.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Taking seat Friday
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 9:07 AM
Fermin is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Boston.
Analysis: It will be Luis Campusano doing the catching. Fermin has made four starts to Campusano's three behind the plate thus far, and a similar playing time breakdown seems likely to continue.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Logs four-out save
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 6:23 PM
Miller allowed a hit and struck out three without walking a batter over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the save in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Miller entered the game with one on and two outs in the eighth inning and shut things down. The Padres proceeded to add four runs in their half of the eighth to give Miller plenty of cushion. This was his second save of the season, and he's added a 5:1 K:BB over 2.1 scoreless innings so far. He is firmly locked into the closer role, and Wednesday's outing shows manager Craig Stammen won't hesitate to ask him to cover more than one frame if necessary.
Ramon Laureano
Ramon Laureano Clubs homer in win
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 6:12 PM
Laureano went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Laureano gave the Padres some breathing room with his eighth-inning blast. This was his second multi-hit effort in five contests this season, and he's added two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base while batting .389 so far. Laureano was given a full day off Tuesday and started at designated hitter for the first time this season Wednesday. While he may not play the field all the time, he should be in the lineup most of the time, as long as he continues to hit well.
Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Rebounds in second start
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 6:08 PM
Pivetta (1-1) allowed one hit and two walks while striking out eight over five scoreless innings to earn the win over the Giants on Wednesday.
Analysis: Pivetta's first start of the season was rough, but he bounced back in his second outing. In the 2025 regular season, he had eight outings with at least eight strikeouts, and he won six of those games with no-decisions in the other two. The right-hander now has a 6.75 ERA and a 12:5 K:BB across eight innings over his two starts this season. He is tentatively lined up to make his first road start of the year in Pittsburgh next week, which could be his first outing of a two-start week.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Not starting Wednesday
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 1:55 PM
Andujar is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Andujar and Nick Castellanos shared the designated-hitter spot through the first five games, but neither player will be in the lineup Wednesday. Ramon Laureano will receive a day off from playing the outfield, but he'll stay in the starting nine at DH while Bryce Johnson takes his spot on defense. Andujar has struggled out of the gate thus far, going 2-for-12 with a walk and two RBI, so he'll need to raise his production in order to gain traction in the everyday lineup.
Nick Castellanos
Nick Castellanos Heading to bench Wednesday
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 1:51 PM
Castellanos is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Castellanos and Miguel Andujar shared the designated-hitter spot through the first five games, but neither player will be in the lineup Wednesday. Ramon Laureano will receive a day off from playing the outfield, but he'll stay in the starting nine at DH while Bryce Johnson takes his spot on defense. Castellanos has thus far gone 2-for-12 with a double and a walk, so he'll need to raise his production before solidifying an everyday role.
German Marquez
German Marquez Knocked around in Padres debut
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 2:28 AM
Marquez (0-1) took the loss against San Francisco on Tuesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out one batter over three innings.
Analysis: Marquez finished spring with a pair of promising outings, but he couldn't carry over any momentum into his first start of the regular season. The veteran right-hander gave up three runs in the first inning and another in the third, and he needed 65 pitches to get through three frames. Marquez gave up a whopping eight hits (including two homers and a double) during his short time on the mound, and his final line could have been even worse had he not escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the second. Marquez is filling a spot at the end of San Diego's rotation for the time being, but he'll likely need to pitch much better to keep a starting role once Joe Musgrove (elbow) and Griffin Canning (Achilles) are ready to return to action.
Ramon Laureano
Ramon Laureano Heading to bench Tuesday
Tue, Mar 31, 2026, 5:09 PM
Laureano is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: After starting the first four games of the season and going 5-for-14 with a double, a homer and a stolen base, Laureano will receive a day off Tuesday. Nick Castellanos will take over in left field while Miguel Andujar receives a start at designated hitter.
Griffin Canning
Griffin Canning Going on rehab assignment
Tue, Mar 31, 2026, 4:51 PM
Canning (Achilles) will start for Double-A San Antonio on a rehab assignment Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Canning is nearing a return from a torn Achilles that he suffered last June while with the Mets. The right-hander inked a one-year deal with San Diego last month and could be a candidate for the Padres' rotation once healthy. Walker Buehler and German Marquez are currently occupying the fourth and fifth spots in the rotation for San Diego, but Buehler was hit hard in his first start Monday against the Giants.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Set for back-to-back rehab outings
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 5:38 PM
Adam (quadriceps) will throw a simulated game Tuesday before making back-to-back rehab appearances with Double-A San Antonio on Friday and Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Making rehab appearances on back-to-back days is typically the final hurdle a pitcher needs to clear before rejoining the major-league roster, so Adam appears set for activation from the 15-day injured list when first eligible April 6. The veteran reliever is getting a late start to the season following surgery last September to repair a ruptured left quadriceps tendon. Adam will work in a setup role in front of closer Mason Miller.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Yields to Campusano on Monday
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 1:46 PM
Fermin is not in the lineup for Monday's contest against the Giants.
Analysis: Fermin and Luis Campusano have alternated starts at catcher in the first four games of the season for the Padres. It will be Campusano catching and batting ninth in Monday's series opener.
Nick Castellanos
Nick Castellanos Another start against righty
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 1:45 PM
Castellanos will start at designated hitter and bat eighth in Monday's contest versus the Giants.
Analysis: After yielding to Miguel Andujar at DH against lefties in the first two games of the season, Castellanos is now making a second straight start versus a righty. While Castellanos seems to have the early edge over Andujar in terms of playing time against right-handed pitching, there probably isn't a cemented hierarchy just yet. Gavin Sheets and Ty France are also vying for playing time in a crowded first base/DH situation for San Diego.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Out of lineup againt right-hander
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 1:40 PM
Andujar is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Andujar started at designated hitter in each of the first two games of the season versus lefties. However, he's now sat two straight against righties in favor of Nick Castellanos. It's too soon to know how exactly the playing time between the two players will shake out, but early indications are that Castellanos is the preferred guy against right-handed pitching.
Joe Musgrove
Joe Musgrove Doesn't have timeline for return
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 6:49 PM
Musgrove (elbow) has resumed playing catch, but he doesn't have a definitive timeline to rejoin the Padres' rotation, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union Tribune reports.
Analysis: Musgrove threw 60 pitches in an exhibition game against Great Britain on March 4, but he was subsequently pulled back from throwing and hasn't tossed from a mound since. Following the setback, the right-hander underwent a precautionary MRI, but the imaging didn't show any new concerns. Considering that he hasn't pitched in a big-league game since undergoing Tommy John surgery in October of 2024, Musgrove will almost certainly need to clear multiple hurdles -- including a resumption of bullpen sessions, throwing to live hitters and taking part in a minor-league rehab stint -- before San Diego activates him off the IL. Padres president of baseball operations A.J. Preller suggested this week that Musgrove's timeframe to make his season debut is hazy, saying, "We're not going to really know until he gets through days like today, where he starts to play catch and he puts some volume on what he's doing and he starts to build up innings and we're seeing the bounce-back. So it's not like next week he's coming back. But this isn't something either where we're talking about months. We'll know a lot more here over the course of the next week to 10 days, how he starts bouncing back from these early throwing sessions."
