Freddy Fermin Avoids arbitration with San Diego
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 7:55 PM
Fermin signed a one-year, $2.1 million contract with the Padres on Thursday to avoid arbitration.
Analysis: Fermin was traded by the Royals to the Padres in late July, and across both clubs he posted a .636 OPS with one steal, 32 runs, 13 doubles, five home runs and 26 RBI over 347 plate appearances during the 2025 regular season. The 30-year-old projects to be the Padres No. 1 catcher by Opening Day of the 2026 season while Luis Campusano serves as the backup.
JP Sears
JP Sears Gets deal with San Diego
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 7:49 PM
Sears signed a one-year contract with the Padres on Thursday to avoid arbitration.
Analysis: Sears was a regular part of the Athletics' rotation before being shipped to the Padres in late July, after which point he was sent back and forth between Triple-A and the majors. He ended the 2025 regular season with a 5.04 ERA and 1.32 WHIP -- both career worsts -- across 135.2 innings, and his spot in the Padres' rotation could be shaky if he gets off to a slow start in 2026.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Avoids arbitration with Padres
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 7:37 PM
Miller signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Padres on Thursday to avoid arbitration.
Analysis: The terms of the deal have yet to be announced, though Miller was projected at $3.3 million in his first year of arbitration, per Spotrac.com. Miller opened the 2025 regular season with the Athletics before being traded to the Padres in July, and between both teams he posted a 2.63 ERA, 0.91 WHIP 10 holds, 22 saves (out of 26 opportunities) and a 104:28 K:BB across 61.2 innings. Miller served in a high-leverage role out of the Padres bullpen after being the Athletics' top closer. However, with Robert Suarez signing with Atlanta during the offseason, Miller figures to be San Diego's closer for the 2026 campaign.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Avoids arbitration with San Diego
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 6:46 PM
Adam (quadriceps) signed a one-year, $6.7 million contract with the Padres on Thursday to avoid arbitration.
Analysis: Adam earned his first All-Star selection in 2025, and he finished the regular season with a 1.93 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 30 holds (tied for fifth most in the majors) and a 70:25 K:BB across 65.1 innings. His 2025 campaign came to an abrupt halt in September after rupturing a tendon in his left quadriceps. After undergoing surgery that requires a recovery timeline of 6-to-9 months, the 34-year-old right-hander is expected to start the 2026 season on the injured list. However, per Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune in early December, Adam is expected to be ready to throw off a mound in spring training and may not need a lengthy stint on the IL.
Adrian Morejon
Adrian Morejon Settles with San Diego
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 3:17 PM
The Padres and Morejon avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.9 million contract Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: It was the final year of arbitration eligibility for Morejon, who is slated to become a free agent next offseason. The left-hander has posted a 2.42 ERA and 141:38 K:BB over 137.1 regular-season innings as a full-time reliever since the start of the 2024 campaign. He'll again serve in a high-leverage role in 2026.
Gavin Sheets
Gavin Sheets Gets $4.5 million from Padres
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 12:35 PM
Sheets and the Padres avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.5 million contract Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Sheets enjoyed a resurgence at the plate during his first year with the Padres, slashing .252/.317/.429 while setting new career highs with 19 homers, 71 RBI and 57 runs scored across 545 regular-season plate appearances. He'll be rewarded with a $2.9 million raise from the club and figures to remain as San Diego's primary DH in 2026.
Jose Miranda
Jose Miranda Inks minors deal with Padres
Fri, Dec 19, 2025, 12:46 PM
The Padres signed Miranda to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports.
Analysis: Miranda showed promise at times while with the Twins, but he crashed out in 2025, going 6-for-36 with the big club and hitting only .195/.272/.296 across 371 plate appearances at Triple-A St. Paul. Still, the 27-year-old is a solid get on a minor-league contract, and there's a non-zero chance he pushes for playing time at first base in San Diego.
Michael King
Michael King Returns to San Diego
Thu, Dec 18, 2025, 10:01 PM
King signed a three-year contract worth $75 million with the Padres on Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: King had two excellent seasons with the Padres in 2024 and 2025, and he passed on a qualifying offer with the team earlier in the offseason. According to Feinsand, King will receive a $12 million signing bonus and then make an additional $5 million in 2026. He will then have two additional player options for the 2027 and 2028 campaigns worth $28 and $30 million, respectively. Assuming King can avoid any lingering issues with his shoulder that cost him much of the 2025 season, he should headline the Padres' rotation.
Triston McKenzie
Triston McKenzie Invited to Padres' camp
Thu, Dec 18, 2025, 4:15 PM
McKenzie signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports
Analysis: McKenzie gave up seven earned runs over 5.2 innings with the Guardians this past season before being outrighted to the minor leagues in late April. His performance didn't improve following his demotion, as he turned in a 7.40 ERA and 2.13 WHIP over 20.2 frames split between rookie ball and Triple-A. He'll now attempt to revive his career with the Padres, but he will likely have to prove he can handle minor-league hitters again before getting a shot with the big club.
Yu Darvish
Yu Darvish Undecided on future post-surgery
Mon, Dec 15, 2025, 1:47 PM
Darvish (elbow) said Monday that he's unsure whether he will continue his baseball career after completing rehab for his November UCL repair with an internal brace and flexor tendon surgery, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Darvish will miss the entire 2026 season and will be 40 years old heading into the 2027 campaign. He's owed $30 million between 2027 and 2028, so while he has financial incentive to continue pitching, the right-hander is currently focused on his rehab and will make a decision about his playing career at a later date. Darvish posted a 5.38 ERA and 68:19 K:BB over 72 regular-season innings covering 15 starts for the Padres in 2025.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Will throw off mound in spring
Wed, Dec 10, 2025, 9:30 AM
Adam (quadriceps) is expected to be ready to throw off a mound sometime during spring training, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Adam underwent surgery in September to repair a torn left quad tendon. While it seems a stint on the injured list to begin the 2026 season is likely, Adam might not need to miss much time. The 34-year-old boasts a 1.66 ERA and 101:32 K:BB over 92 regular-season innings during his time with the Padres.
David Morgan
David Morgan Sticking in relief role
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 2:51 PM
Padres manager Craig Stammen said Monday that Morgan will remain in a relief role in 2026, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Consideration was given to stretching Morgan out to be an option for the Padres' rotation, but the club has ultimately decided to keep him in the bullpen. Morgan held a 2.66 ERA and 50:23 K:BB over 47.1 regular-season innings for the Padres in 2025 and is pegged for a middle relief role in 2026.
Adrian Morejon
Adrian Morejon Will stay in relief role
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 2:44 PM
Padres manager Craig Stammen said Monday that Morejon will remain in the bullpen next season, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Morejon has past starting experience and the Padres had considered moving him into their rotation in 2026. However, it's been decided to keep the lefty in a relief role instead. Morejon has posted a 2.42 ERA and 141:38 K:BB over 137.1 regular-season innings as a full-time reliever since the start of the 2024 campaign. The Padres are also keeping Mason Miller in a relief role, so Morejon likely won't see many, if any, save chances unless Miller gets injured.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Remaining in bullpen
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 2:40 PM
Padres manager Craig Stammen said Monday that Miller will remain in the bullpen next season, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Padres mulled the idea of shifting Miller to their rotation, but Stammen noted Monday that that move would have been "a risky proposition health-wise and performance-wise." With confirmation that he'll stay in the bullpen, Miller should open 2026 as the Padres' closer and has a strong case to be the first reliever to be taken in fantasy drafts. The 27-year-old boasts a 2.56 ERA and 43.1 percent strikeout rate over the last two regular seasons, notching 28 saves over that time.
Ty Adcock
Ty Adcock Gets MLB deal from Padres
Thu, Dec 4, 2025, 2:53 PM
The Padres signed Adcock to a one-year contract Thursday.
Analysis: Adcock got into three games with the Mets in 2025 but spent most of the season at Triple-A Syracuse, where he posted a 4.66 ERA and 35:14 K:BB over 36.2 frames. The right-handed reliever does not have minor-league options remaining and has previously been outrighted, so he'd seem to be a good bet to be part of the Padres' Opening Day bullpen.
Carlos Rodriguez
Carlos Rodriguez Invited to Padres' camp
Fri, Nov 21, 2025, 7:54 PM
Rodriguez signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Rodriguez spent most of 2025 with Atlanta's Triple-A affiliate, where he slashed .247/.320/.323 with eight homers, 33 RBI, 53 runs scored and 17 steals across 531 plate appearances. The 24-year-old outfielder has yet to make his MLB debut and will likely begin 2026 at Triple-A El Paso.
Luis Campusano
Luis Campusano Secures contract for '26
Fri, Nov 21, 2025, 6:14 PM
Campusano signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Padres on Friday.
Analysis: Campusano went 0-for-21 with six walks and 11 strikeouts in the majors during the 2025 regular season, but he continued to show promise in the minors, finishing with a .334/.438/.586 slash line over 466 plate appearances at Triple-A El Paso. The 27-year-old owns a .666 OPS through 178 games in his big-league career but will have a chance to win a spot on San Diego's Opening Day roster this spring.
Pablo Reyes
Pablo Reyes Gets minors deal from San Diego
Thu, Nov 20, 2025, 11:36 AM
The Padres signed Reyes to a minor-league contract Nov. 6.
Analysis: Reyes had a .468 OPS in 24 games with the Yankees in 2025 but spent most of the season at Triple-A Syracuse in the Mets organization. The 32-year-old is a career .245/.305/.342 hitter across parts of seven major-league seasons and will provide the Padres with some utility depth at Triple-A El Paso.
Kyle Hart
Kyle Hart Re-ups with San Diego
Mon, Nov 17, 2025, 10:36 AM
The Padres re-signed Hart to a one-year, $1 million contract with a $2.5 million club option for 2027 on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis: The Padres declined Hart's $5 million club option for 2026 earlier this month, but they've now brought him back at a lesser rate. Hart split his time between the majors and minors in 2025, finishing with a 5.86 ERA and 37:13 K:BB over 43 regular-season innings covering six starts and 14 relief outings with the big club. The southpaw will compete for an Opening Day roster spot -- perhaps in a swingman role -- but does have minor-league options remaining.
David Morgan
David Morgan Candidate to move into rotation
Wed, Nov 12, 2025, 8:55 AM
The Padres are considering moving Morgan into their rotation next season, Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic report.
Analysis: Mason Miller and Adrian Morejon are the more high-profile names being mulled for a shift from the bullpen to the rotation, but Morgan is also under consideration. A former infielder and undrafted free agent who didn't begin pitching until 2022, Morgan posted a 2.66 ERA and 50:23 K:BB over 47.1 regular-season innings for the Padres in 2025. The 26-year-old had two opener assignments for the Padres, but the last time he made a traditional start came in 2022 at Hope International, an NAIA school.
