Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Throws in bridge league game in Arizona
Sat, Aug 22, 2026, 12:42 PM
Manager Craig Stammen said that Pivetta (forearm) threw two innings in a bridge league game Thursday at the Padres' spring training complex in Arizona, 97.3 The Fan San Diego reports.
Analysis: Stammen noted that Pivetta "felt great" during the outing and will throw a bullpen session before the Padres decide when the right-hander will make his next appearance in a game, either at the complex in Arizona or as part of a minor-league rehab assignment. Pivetta -- who has been on the shelf since April 14 due to a right forearm strain -- kicked off a rehab assignment at Single-A Lake Elsinore on Aug. 4 but tossed just 14 pitches before experiencing renewed tightness in his elbow. Though Pivetta is pitching in games again, he'll still need some time to build back up and is no longer looking likely to make it back from the 60-day injured list until September.
Joe Musgrove
Joe Musgrove Likely to need another rehab start
Sat, Aug 22, 2026, 12:33 PM
Padres manager Craig Stammen said that Musgrove (elbow) will throw a bullpen session this weekend before likely making a final minor-league rehab start during the upcoming week, 97.3 The Fan San Diego reports.
Analysis: Musgrove most recently made his third rehab start Aug. 14 with Triple-A El Paso, striking out five while allowing five earned runs on nine hits and one walk. Though Musgrove built up to 70 pitches in that outing and looked like he might have been ready to return from the 60-day injured list at some point this week to make his 2026 Padres debut, Stammen revealed that the right-hander "had a little back issue pop up" during a recent workout. Fortunately for Musgrove, the back issue isn't viewed as a major concern, and he hasn't incurred any setbacks with his surgically repaired elbow since beginning his rehab assignment Aug. 4. Assuming his back responds well to the bullpen session, Musgrove should be in line for a sizable workload in his upcoming minor-league appearance before joining the San Diego rotation immediately thereafter for what would be his first big-league outing since Sept. 26, 2024.
Ty France
Ty France Homers, on base thrice
Sat, Aug 22, 2026, 2:05 AM
France went 1-for-1 with two walks, a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly in Friday's 6-2 win over the Twins.
Analysis: The veteran first baseman started and ended the scoring Friday with a two-run homer during the opening frame and a sac fly in the fifth. After a few down seasons, France has gotten back on track at the plate in 2026 with 18 home runs and a .293/.353/.521 slash line through 102 games. He's started at first base in 36 of San Diego's past 37 games.
Luis Campusano
Luis Campusano Idle Friday
Fri, Aug 21, 2026, 4:23 PM
Campusano is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Twins on Friday.
Analysis: Freddy Fermin will start behind home plate and bat eighth in Friday's series opener. For the month of August, Campusano has gone 10-for-35 (.286) with eight RBI and four extra-base hits.
Xander Bogaerts
Xander Bogaerts In Friday's lineup versus Minnesota
Fri, Aug 21, 2026, 4:22 PM
Bogaerts (hamstring) is starting at shortstop and batting sixth against the Twins on Friday.
Analysis: Bogaerts was removed from Wednesday's game against the Mets after tweaking his right hamstring, but the veteran shortstop was able to take advantage of a team off-day Thursday. Bogaerts has a career-low .649 OPS with 16 steals, 11 home runs and 46 RBI over 281 plate appearances this season.
Michael King
Michael King Tough loss in quality start Wednesday
Wed, Aug 19, 2026, 5:04 PM
King (8-9) took the loss Wednesday as the Padres fell 4-2 to the Mets, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: A two-run home run by Carson Benge in the fourth inning was the only real blemish on King's line for the afternoon, but the right-hander left the mound with the Friars down 2-1 and saw his two-start win streak snapped. King has been on a roll since the beginning of July, producing quality starts in six of his nine outings with a 3.08 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 45:19 K:BB over 52.2 innings. He'll look for more run support in his next start, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Pirates.
Xander Bogaerts
Xander Bogaerts Exits with hamstring injury
Wed, Aug 19, 2026, 2:31 PM
Bogaerts was removed from Wednesday's game versus the Mets in the seventh inning with a right hamstring injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Bogaerts grabbed at his hamstring on a swinging strikeout in the top of the seventh inning and did not take the field for the bottom of the frame. The Padres should have more on the infielder's status after the contest. Bogaerts went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored before departing.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Back on bench Wednesday
Wed, Aug 19, 2026, 10:33 AM
Fermin is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Fermin had started behind the plate in three of the previous four contests but will cede catching duties to Luis Campusano for the series finale at Citi Field. The two backstops are likely to be used in a near-even timeshare moving forward, with Fermin's defensive prowess allowing him to retain playing time despite Campusano having been the far more productive hitter.
Gavin Sheets
Gavin Sheets Sitting against righty
Wed, Aug 19, 2026, 10:29 AM
Sheets is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: After taking a seat for Tuesday's 5-2 win while southpaw Zac Thornton started for the Mets, the left-handed-hitting Sheets will remain on the bench against a righty (Robert Stock) for the series finale in New York. Sheets will give up his spot in the starting nine to Sung-Mun Song, who will cover third base while Manny Machado serves as the Friars' designated hitter.
Robbie Ray
Robbie Ray Earns first win with Padres
Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 10:06 PM
Ray (11-7) earned the win in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Mets, allowing one run on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over six innings.
Analysis: Ray allowed a run in the fifth inning but otherwise kept the Mets in check despite throwing just 53 of 91 pitches for strikes. It was the southpaw's first quality start and victory in three turns with his new club, and he's posted a 4.20 ERA with an underwhelming 10:11 K:BB during that span. He'll carry a 3.20 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 117:68 K:BB across 137.2 innings with the Padres and Giants into a home matchup with the Pirates next week.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Secures 31st save
Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 10:00 PM
Miller earned the save in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Mets, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.
Analysis: Miller was summoned to protect a three-run lead in the ninth inning and slammed the door on 16 pitches. The 27-year-old has yielded just one earned run over 12 second-half appearances, nailing down six of seven save chances in the process. For the year, he's 31-for-32 in save opportunities to go along with a microscopic 0.86 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 95:19 K:BB across 52.1 innings.
Manny Machado
Manny Machado Homers in win
Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 9:55 PM
Machado went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Mets.
Analysis: Machado was a thorn in the Mets' side all game, highlighted by a solo homer in the top of the ninth inning. It snapped a 20-game power drought for the 34-year-old, who owns a lowly .626 OPS through 17 August contests. For the year, he's slashing .217/.302/.416 with 24 home runs, 71 RBI, 63 runs scored and two steals across 528 plate appearances.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Puts on a show in win
Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 9:49 PM
Tatis went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Mets.
Analysis: Tatis was the undoubted star of Tuesday's game, posting his first multi-homer effort of the year while also robbing a grand slam in the field. It continued a second-half power binge for the 27-year-old, who's gone deep 10 times while posting a 1.016 OPS in 30 games since the All-Star break. On the season, he's slashing .280/.353/.432 with 15 home runs, 60 RBI, 71 runs scored and 28 steals across 551 plate appearances.
Walker Buehler
Walker Buehler Takes loss after yielding early runs
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 8:50 PM
Buehler (7-6) took the loss against the Mets on Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings.
Analysis: Buehler got off to a slow start, allowing the first three hitters he faced on base and allowing two runs in the opening frame. He kept the Mets off the board the rest of the way and earned the quality start, but he could not get the run support he needed to avoid the loss. Buehler has put together stronger starts in his six starts since the All-Star break, posting a 3.16 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 31.1 innings, though he also has a 23:14 K:BB in that span. He's lined up to face the Twins at home this weekend.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Begins playing light catch
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 4:20 PM
Adam (shoulder) played light catch from 90 feet Monday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Adam said afterward that he "felt clean, I felt no pain, so really good." It's the first time he's done any throwing since he went down with a right shoulder strain in early July. He'll need some time to get built back up, but Adam should rejoin the Padres' bullpen sometime in September if all goes well.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Beginning swing progression
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 2:43 PM
The Padres announced Monday that Andujar (wrist) has been cleared to begin a swing progression, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andujar went down just after the All-Star break with a fractured right wrist. He will ramp up a swinging progression before eventually heading out on a rehab assignment. Andujar is without a timeline to return from the 10-day injured list, but he appears unlikely to make it back before the end of August.
Samad Taylor
Samad Taylor Kicking off rehab assignment
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 2:39 PM
Taylor (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Taylor landed on the 10-day injured list in early July with a right oblique strain but has finally been cleared to play in games again. Given how much time Taylor has missed, the utility player will likely require a handful of rehab contests before returning.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Six strong innings in first Padres win
Sun, Aug 16, 2026, 8:43 PM
Mize (5-7) notched the win against the Guardians on Sunday, allowing no runs on three hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Mize showed no ill effects of Sunday's game being delayed by over three hours due to rain, picking up his first win as a member of the Padres. The right-hander has been very consistent on the mound for the most part during his time for Detroit and San Diego, giving up two runs or fewer in 14 of his 19 outings on the year. Mize is set to take a career-best 3.18 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 95:25 K:BB over 102 innings into a favorable home matchup against the Twins.
Joe Musgrove
Joe Musgrove Reaches 70 pitches in rehab start
Sun, Aug 16, 2026, 12:16 PM
Musgrove allowed five earned runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five across 4.2 innings Friday in his rehab start with Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: Though he was knocked around in the third start of his rehab assignment, Musgrove built up to 70 pitches and 95.2 mph with his fastball. According to MLB.com, Padres manager Craig Stammen said Musgrove was "very positive" about how he felt during Friday's outing, but a decision has yet to be made regarding whether he'll require another rehab start or return from the 60-day injured list to make his first big-league appearance since Sept. 26, 2024. If Musgrove ends up entering the rotation during the Padres' upcoming weekend series with the Twins, he would likely be operating with a limited pitch count.
Luis Campusano
Luis Campusano Receiving rest Sunday
Sun, Aug 16, 2026, 11:58 AM
Campusano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: Campusano will get a breather Sunday after he made starts at catcher and designated hitter in the first two games of the series, going 2-for-7 with two doubles, one walk and three RBI. Freddy Fermin will step in behind the dish, while Manny Machado receives a turn as the Friars' DH.
