Xander Bogaerts
Xander Bogaerts Goes deep Saturday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 11:29 AM
Bogaerts went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk against Washington in a loss Saturday.
Analysis: Bogaerts kicked off the scoring with a 417-foot solo shot to center field in the second inning. The long ball was his first since he went deep in back-to-back games May 5-6. The veteran infielder has struggled at the plate since those pair of contests, batting just .181 with only four RBI over 20 contests. However, he did swipe five bases during that span and is 9-for-9 on theft attempts this season.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Handed day off
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:37 AM
Andujar is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Analysis: Andujar will check out of the lineup for the first time since May 9, ending a streak of 18 consecutive starts. Signed to a modest one-year, $4 million contract in February, Andujar has emerged as a key part of the San Diego lineup this season, with his 107 wRC+ placing him third on the team among players with at least 100 plate appearances.
Ramon Laureano
Ramon Laureano Resting up Sunday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 9:33 AM
Laureano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Analysis: The Padres will give Laureano a breather for Sunday's day game after he went 2-for-21 with a solo home run, two steals and an additional run while starting in the team's last six contests. San Diego will go with Nick Castellanos and Fernando Tatis as its starters in the corner outfield in the series finale while Laureano sits.
Manny Machado
Manny Machado Goes deep in loss
Sat, May 30, 2026, 6:57 PM
Machado went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Nationals.
Analysis: Machado launched a solo blast in the fourth inning before adding an RBI double in the eighth, notching his first multi-hit effort since May 3. The third baseman has gone deep four times over his past 10 games, though he's hit just 6-for-36 during that stretch. For the year, he's slashing a disappointing .178/.272/.360 with 10 homers, 30 RBI, 28 runs scored and one stolen base across 229 plate appearances.
Michael King
Michael King Falters late in loss
Sat, May 30, 2026, 6:40 PM
King (4-4) took the loss against the Nationals on Saturday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts over six innings.
Analysis: King allowed just one run through six innings before failing to record an out and being charged with four more (three earned) in the seventh. The 31-year-old has now surrendered four earned runs in each of his last two outings while suffering consecutive losses for the first time this season. He still owns a solid 3.04 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 65:29 K:BB across 68 innings and will look to get back on track in a home matchup against the Mets next weekend.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Finally goes deep in loss
Sat, May 30, 2026, 6:29 PM
Tatis went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Nationals.
Analysis: Tatis launched his first home run of the year 451 feet in the fifth inning. Per Todd Dybas of MLB.com, his 55-game drought to open the season was the second-longest ever by a player who had previously hit 40-plus homers in a season. Despite the lack of power, the 27-year-old has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games with three RBI, six runs scored and four stolen bases. On the year, he's slashing .271/.346/.324 with one long ball, 18 RBI, 21 runs scored and 14 steals across 241 plate appearances.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Nails down 12th hold Friday
Sat, May 30, 2026, 2:08 PM
Adam allowed two hits and no runs over one-third of an inning against the Nationals on Friday.
Analysis: Adam entered with one out and the Padres up 7-5 in the eighth inning and got into some trouble, giving up back-to-back singles. However, Adam got Jorbit Vivas to fly out for the first out in the frame, then Mason Miller finished off the inning without allowing any Nationals to cross the plate. While Adam's outing Friday was far from his best, the right-hander posted his 12th straight scoreless appearance. He's once again been very effective out of San Diego's bullpen, recording a 0.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB while picking up one save and a team-leading 12 holds through 19 innings spanning 21 appearances.
Ty France
Ty France Swats sixth homer Friday
Sat, May 30, 2026, 2:02 PM
France went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a 7-5 win against Washington on Friday.
Analysis: France's long ball was a big one, as he tied the game 5-5 with a solo shot in the sixth inning. The veteran infielder is holding down the strong side of a first-base platoon and has given San Diego an offensive boost with a .286/.314/.541 slash line, six homers, 17 RBI and one stolen base through 36 contests. France is again starting at first base while batting seventh Saturday in the second game of the series.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Resting Saturday
Sat, May 30, 2026, 12:22 PM
Fermin isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals.
Analysis: Fermin is currently stuck in an 0-for-23 stretch at the plate, so the Padres will give him a day to collect himself Saturday while Rodolfo Duran starts at catcher, batting ninth.
Jackson Merrill
Jackson Merrill Ends homer drought
Sat, May 30, 2026, 8:56 AM
Merrill went 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run home run in Friday's 7-5 win over the Nationals.
Analysis: The center fielder took Mitchell Parker deep in the seventh inning for what proved to be the game-winning hit -- Merrill's first long ball since May 4 and his first of the season against a left-handed pitcher. During his 19-game homer drought, he slashed a paltry .162/.250/.235 with five doubles, three RBI and four runs, but he did chip in four steals. Friday's clutch blast could be a sign he's beginning to find his rhythm at the plate.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Battles control in 17th save
Sat, May 30, 2026, 8:52 AM
Miller walked two and struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings Friday to record his 17th save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Nationals.
Analysis: The flame-throwing righty needed 30 pitches (17 strikes) to get the job done, and Miller got a little lucky when a Luis Garcia line drive nearly got over Ramon Laureano's head in left field for what could have been a game-tying double in the eighth inning. Miller remains perfect in closing situations on the season, having converting 17 straight save chances in 2026 and 19 straight dating back to Aug. 6 of last year, and through 25 innings he sports a 0.72 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 49:11 K:BB.
Lucas Giolito
Lucas Giolito Gets early hook Friday
Sat, May 30, 2026, 8:46 AM
Giolito came away with a no-decision in Friday's 7-5 win over the Nationals, surrendering four runs on five hits and four walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out one.
Analysis: Facing the team he made his big-league debut with back in 2016, Giolito struggled right from the jump, serving up homers to Curtis Mead in the first inning and Keibert Ruiz in the second before getting lifted after 77 pitches (41 strikes). Giolito won his first two starts of the year after not signing with the Padres until late April, but through his first 12.2 innings in 2026 he's stumbled to a 4.97 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 6:12 K:BB. The veteran righty will try to rebound in his next outing, which is set to come on the road next week in Philadelphia.
Walker Buehler
Walker Buehler Dealt tough-luck loss Wednesday
Wed, May 27, 2026, 10:25 PM
Buehler (3-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two over 5.1 innings.
Analysis: Buehler was excellent for most of the night, facing the minimum through five innings, but after allowing a single and a hit-by-pitch in the sixth with Kyle Schwarber due up, San Diego opted to turn to left-hander Adrian Morejon despite Buehler sitting at only 58 pitches. The move backfired as both inherited runners eventually came around to score, and the Padres' offense once again failed to provide Buehler with enough run support, saddling the right-hander with the loss. He has now limited opponents to two or fewer earned runs in six of his last nine starts and owns a 4.88 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB across 51.2 innings. Buehler is slated for a rematch against Philadelphia in his next outing.
Ty France
Ty France Sitting after four straight starts
Wed, May 27, 2026, 12:03 PM
France is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: After striking out in all four of his at-bats in Tuesday's 4-3 loss, France will get a chance to clear his head in the series finale. France had been included in the lineup at first base in each of the Friars' previous four games, with three of those starts coming against right-handed pitching. He looks like he may have the edge over Nick Castellanos for the final opening in San Diego's everyday lineup until the team gets Jake Cronenworth (concussion) back from the 7-day injured list.
Nick Castellanos
Nick Castellanos Idle Tuesday
Tue, May 26, 2026, 4:19 PM
Castellanos is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Phillies.
Analysis: Castellanos had started in six of the last seven games for the Padres since May 18, but did appear in all of them. He recorded just two hits across 22 plate appearances in that span, with one of those hits being a home run. The Padres' outfield Tuesday is composed of Gavin Sheets, Jackson Merrill and Ramon Laureano.
Griffin Canning
Griffin Canning Logs 6.2 innings in third loss
Mon, May 25, 2026, 11:00 PM
Canning (0-3) took the loss Monday, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks over 6.2 innings against the Phillies. He struck out five.
Analysis: Following a first-inning solo homer by Kyle Schwarber, Canning settled in nicely through the middle innings, though his outing ended on a sour note when Brandon Marsh blasted a two-run shot with two outs in the seventh frame. After posting a 12.27 ERA and 2.09 WHIP across 11 innings over his previous three appearances, Monday's outing can be viewed as a step in the right direction for Canning. The right-hander will carry a 7.54 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB through 22.2 innings (five starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Nationals.
Gavin Sheets
Gavin Sheets Sitting out versus southpaw
Mon, May 25, 2026, 1:06 PM
Sheets is absent from the lineup for Monday's game versus the Phillies.
Analysis: The lefty-swinging Sheets has been seeing playing time versus lefty hurlers lately as he swings a hot bat, but he will begin Monday's series opener on the bench. Ty France is at first base and hitting seventh for the Padres.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Tallies three hits in loss
Sun, May 24, 2026, 9:05 PM
Tatis went 3-for-5 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Athletics.
Analysis: Tatis logged a trio of hits, though he was thrown out attempting to stretch a single into a double in the third inning, while his fifth-inning double was squandered after Ty France was cut down at home plate, with both instances ending the inning. Nonetheless, it was a step in the right direction for Tatis, who has gone 9-for-27 (.333) with an RBI, four runs and three walks across the past seven contests. He's still searching for his first homer of the year, as the 27-year-old is slashing .247/.326/.289 with six doubles, a triple, 16 RBI, 19 runs and 12 stolen bases across 51 games.
Ty France
Ty France Goes yard in Sunday's loss
Sun, May 24, 2026, 8:54 PM
France went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Athletics.
Analysis: France blasted an opposite-field solo shot in the seventh inning to cut into the deficit, though the Padres were unable to rally for a victory. Sunday marked France's seventh multi-hit effort across 32 appearances in 2026. He hasn't been a staple of San Diego's everyday lineup, but the veteran infielder has been productive when called upon, slashing .279/.311/.535 with five homers, three doubles, two triples, 16 RBI, 10 runs and a stolen base across 90 plate appearances.
Michael King
Michael King Ineffective in third loss
Sun, May 24, 2026, 8:18 PM
King (4-3) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks over 3.2 innings against the Athletics. He struck out four.
Analysis: King wasn't at his sharpest, surrendering a leadoff homer to Carlos Cortes and never settling into a rhythm before losing the zone and being lifted in the fourth inning. Sunday's shaky outing came on the heels of a dominant three-start stretch in which King posted a 0.96 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 18.2 innings. Overall, the right-hander owns a 2.76 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 63:28 K:BB through 62 innings (11 starts) and will look to get back in the win column next time out, which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Nationals.
