Jason Adam
Jason Adam Will start season on IL
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 5:54 PM
Padres manager Craig Stammen said Monday that Adam (quadriceps) will begin the season on the injured list, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Coming back from surgery last September to repair a ruptured left quadriceps tendon, Adam has retired all six batters he's faced this spring. However, Stammen said Monday that the club has "got to be smart" with Adam, who should make his season debut "sometime in April, most likely." Once deemed ready, Adam is slated to fill a setup role in front of closer Mason Miller.
Jose Leclerc
Jose Leclerc Inks minors deal with Padres
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 2:00 PM
The Padres signed Leclerc (shoulder) to a minor-league contract Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Leclerc is still working his way back from right shoulder surgery, but he has resumed throwing off the mound and is aiming to make his season debut by July. The 32-year-old has a career 13.1 percent walk rate but also a 30.8 percent strikeout rate over parts of nine big-league seasons. There's no guarantee Leclerc's stuff bounces all the way back after his shoulder operation, but if it does he could eventually see high-leverage relief work in San Diego.
Walker Buehler
Walker Buehler Lit up in final spring start
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 12:45 PM
Buehler allowed seven runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 3.1 innings in a Cactus League start against Arizona on Sunday.
Analysis: Buehler had been pitching well this spring coming into Sunday, but he was roughed up badly by the Diamondbacks. Among the 11 hits the right-hander allowed, four left the park, marking the first long balls Buehler has given up this spring. Manager Craig Stammen said Saturday that Buehler will make the Padres' Opening Day roster, so despite the ugly outing one day later, the former Dodger is lined up to be part of the team's starting rotation. Buehler threw 79 pitches Sunday, so he appears ready to take on a near-full workload.
Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Receives Opening Day assignment
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 12:38 PM
The Padres announced Pivetta as their starting pitcher for Thursday's season opener versus the Tigers at Petco Park.
Analysis: The decision on an Opening Day starter came down to Pivetta and Michael King, with the former earning the nod on the back of his career-best season in 2025. The 33-year-old righty closed the regular season with a 2.87 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 190:50 K:BB across 181.2 frames, then went on to strike out nine batters and allow two earned runs in five innings in his lone postseason start. Per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Pivetta dealt with some arm fatigue in the early stages of spring training but was able to get stretched out to 71 pitches and four innings Friday in his final start of camp. He should be ready to handle something close to a typical workload in the opener.
Jeremiah Estrada
Jeremiah Estrada Dominant in Cactus League action
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 10:21 AM
Through nine spring appearances, Estrada has tossed 9.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits while posting a 16:7 K:BB.
Analysis: Estrada has looked nearly unhittable in exhibition action while racking up a 14.9 K/9. The walks are a bit concerning, though the flamethrowing reliever is coming off a 2025 regular season during which he posted a career-best 8.9 percent walk rate. Estrada also recorded a career-high 30 holds last year and is slated to again be a key high-leverage arm for San Diego in 2026.
Logan Gillaspie
Logan Gillaspie Unable to win roster spot
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 6:30 AM
The Padres reassigned Gillaspie to minor-league camp Sunday.
Analysis: Gillaspie is likely to open the upcoming season as a swingman at Triple-A El Paso, where he finished the 2025 campaign after being outrighted off the Padres' 40-man roster in July. Prior to losing his roster spot, Gillaspie appeared in three big-league games for San Diego last season, covering seven innings while allowing two earned runs on seven hits and four walks.
Jose Miranda
Jose Miranda Sent to minor-league camp
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 11:23 PM
Miranda was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Padres on Sunday.
Analysis: Miranda inked a minor-league contract with San Diego in December, and he was able to join the team as a non-roster invitee during spring training. The 27-year-old compiled a respectable .304 average with two home runs, nine RBI and six runs scored over 46 at-bats in 22 contests. Miranda is now likely headed to Triple-A El Paso for the beginning of the 2026 campaign.
JP Sears
JP Sears Headed to El Paso
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 11:17 PM
Sears was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
Analysis: Sears will head to Triple-A after producing an 8.44 ERA and 1.69 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over 10.2 innings in four appearances, including two starts, with the Padres during spring training. The 30-year-old signed a one-year contract with San Diego in January, and he will now have to earn another shot with the major-league roster down the road.
Samad Taylor
Samad Taylor Fails to win roster spot
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 6:49 PM
The Padres reassigned Taylor to minor-league camp Tuesday.
Analysis: The 27-year-old is expected to open the season at Triple-A El Paso after failing to win a utility spot with the Padres coming out of spring training. Taylor owns a .205/.272/.260 slash line over 83 career plate appearances in the big leagues across the past three seasons.
Ty Adcock
Ty Adcock Opening season in minors
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 6:45 PM
The Padres optioned Adcock to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.
Analysis: Adcock failed to win an Opening Day roster spot in a deep Padres bullpen, despite letting in just one earned run on four hits and no walks over his four innings in Cactus League play. The 29-year-old righty has seen limited big-league action over the past three seasons between stops with the Mariners and Mets, logging a 5.48 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB in 23 innings.
Pablo Reyes
Pablo Reyes Fails to make Opening Day roster
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 6:42 PM
The Padres reassigned Reyes to minor-league camp Saturday.
Analysis: After failing to secure a spot on the Padres' Opening Day roster, Reyes is likely to begin the season as a utility player at Triple-A El Paso. The 32-year-old previously saw action in 19 games at the big-league level with the Yankees in 2025, slashing .194/.242/.226 over 34 plate appearances before being outrighted off the 40-man roster in June.
Nick Solak
Nick Solak Cut from Friars' camp
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 6:37 PM
The Padres reassigned Solak to minor-league camp Saturday.
Analysis: Solak is expected to open the season at Triple-A El Paso after failing to win a utility role on the Padres' Opening Day roster. The 31-year-old saw his first big-league action since 2022 last season with the Pirates, appearing in four games and going 1-for-11 at the plate.
Randy Vasquez
Randy Vasquez Concludes spring with 5.1 frames
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 1:53 PM
Vasquez completed 5.1 innings in a Cactus League start versus Milwaukee on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four batters.
Analysis: Vasquez allowed just five baserunners, but three of those circled the bases on home runs. This was presumably the right-hander's final appearance this spring, and if that's the case he'll finish the exhibition slate with a 4.91 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB over 18.1 innings spanning five starts. Vasquez is locked into a role in San Diego's season-opening rotation and could make his first start in the third game of the team's initial series against Detroit.
Triston McKenzie
Triston McKenzie Moved to minor-league camp
Sat, Mar 21, 2026, 7:45 PM
The Padres reassigned McKenzie to minor-league camp Saturday.
Analysis: McKenzie was in Padres camp as a non-roster invitee after signing a minor-league contract in December. The team has had big question marks at the back of the rotation throughout spring, but McKenzie wasn't able to make a serious bid for a big-league role, posting a 9.95 ERA, 2.84 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB over 6.1 innings spanning four appearances. The right-hander has dealt with multiple injuries over the past three years and has struggled during his stints in the majors during that span, so he may need a prolonged run of success in the minors before he sees a big-league mound again.
Marco Gonzales
Marco Gonzales Won't make Opening Day roster
Sat, Mar 21, 2026, 7:35 PM
The Padres reassigned Gonzales to minor-league camp Saturday.
Analysis: Gonzales signed with San Diego on a minor-league contract in late January. The Padres had an open competition for their final two Opening Day rotation spots this spring, but Gonzales failed to make an intriguing case, posting an ugly 10.80 ERA, 2.55 WHIP and 13:9 K:BB over 13.1 innings. The 34-year-old missed all of last season while recovering from flexor tendon repair surgery in his left forearm, and given his results this spring, it's clear he hasn't yet fully shaken off the rust.
Alek Jacob
Alek Jacob Beginning season in minors
Sat, Mar 21, 2026, 7:19 PM
San Diego optioned Jacob to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.
Analysis: Jacob tossed a career-high 33.1 regular-season innings with the Padres in 2025, posting a 5.13 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 23:14 K:BB over 33.1 innings across 29 appearances. The righty reliever has a 6:2 K:BB through 3.2 frames this spring but has also given up a pair of runs. Jacob will start the campaign with El Paso, though he could be an option to fill a big-league bullpen spot at some point if the need arises.
Mason McCoy
Mason McCoy Doesn't make Opening Day roster
Sat, Mar 21, 2026, 7:12 PM
The Padres optioned McCoy to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.
Analysis: McCoy has struggled with the bat this spring, slashing a meager .154/.214/.231 through 18 games. He has a paltry .494 OPS through his first 43 MLB contests, so it remains to be seen if he'll ever hit well enough to stick in the big leagues. McCoy did look better with El Paso last season, slashing .272/.354/.450 with 11 home runs, 59 RBI and 17 stolen bases across 90 contests.
Jason Adam
Jason Adam Makes spring debut
Sat, Mar 21, 2026, 1:50 PM
Adam (quadriceps) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout against Colorado in a Cactus League appearance Friday.
Analysis: Adam entered in the sixth inning and retired the Rockies in order on 12 pitches. It was the first time the righty reliever has appeared in a game this spring, as he's still working to get fully ramped up following the surgery he underwent early last September to repair a ruptured left quadriceps tendon. According to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Adam will aim to make another exhibition appearance Monday, and if that goes well, there's still a chance he could make the Padres' Opening Day roster.
Sung-Mun Song
Sung-Mun Song Expected to open season on IL
Sat, Mar 21, 2026, 12:53 PM
Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Saturday that Song will open the 2026 regular season on the injured list due to a right oblique strain.
Analysis: Song suffered an oblique injury during batting practice in January and aggravated the issue in March. He's progressed enough in his recovery to hit in a cage and could start seeing live at-bats in the coming days, but it looks like the South Korean slugger will open the season on the Padres' IL, which would free up a roster spot for Ty France to make San Diego's Opening Day roster.
Ty France
Ty France Makes Opening Day roster
Sat, Mar 21, 2026, 12:49 PM
France will be part of the Padres' Opening Day roster, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: France joined the Padres in mid-February on a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. He played well at the plate across 17 Cactus League games, posting a .318/.367/.545 slash line with two home runs and 12 RBI in 49 plate appearances. With Sung-Mun Song (oblique) expected to open the season on the IL, France could see a fair amount of playing time as a utility man for San Diego.
