Walker Buehler
Walker Buehler Finds home in Philly
Sun, Aug 31, 2025, 4:08 PM
Buehler agreed to a one-year contract with the Phillies on Sunday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Cut loose by the Red Sox earlier in the weekend, Buehler was able to quickly find work with another playoff-contending organization that was looking to bolster its starting depth. Though he owns a lifetime 3.56 ERA over parts of eight big-league seasons, Buehler languished during his time in Boston, submitting a 5.45 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 84:55 K:BB in 112.1 innings over 23 appearances (22 starts) before losing his spot on the roster. The 31-year-old boasts extensive playoff experience dating back to his time with the Dodgers, and the Phillies are hopeful that the right-hander can provide the pitching staff with a lift in September as the team potentially gears up for a deep postseason run. With Zack Wheeler (shoulder) recently getting shut down for the season, the Phillies have kept Taijuan Walker in the fold as their fifth starter and have received decent results from him, so Buehler won't necessarily be in store for a rotation spot right away with Philadelphia. Instead, he could head to the bullpen and serve as a long-relief option initially once the Phillies formally add him to their roster Monday.
Max Kepler
Max Kepler Giving way to Bader on Sunday
Sun, Aug 31, 2025, 4:01 PM
Kepler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis: Before taking a seat for Saturday's 3-2 win while southpaw Chris Sale was on the mound for Atlanta, the left-handed-hitting Kepler started in each of the previous three contests and went 2-for-11 with a home run and a walk. Atlanta is sending a righty (Hurston Waldrep) to the hill for the series finale, but Kepler will remain on the bench while Harrison Bader picks up a start in the outfield in his place.
Zack Wheeler
Zack Wheeler Shifts to 60-day IL
Sun, Aug 31, 2025, 3:58 PM
The Phillies transferred Wheeler (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
Analysis: The transaction was merely a formality, as Wheeler has already been ruled out for the season after recently having a procedure to remove a blood clot near his right shoulder as well as a more significant thoracic outlet decompression surgery. The latter surgery carries an estimated recovery timeline of 6-to-8 months, which could put Wheeler at risk of missing the start of the 2026 season. With Wheeler shifting to the 60-day injured list, the Phillies were able to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for left-hander Tim Mayza (lat), who was claimed off waivers from the Pirates.
Tim Mayza
Tim Mayza Claimed by Philly
Sun, Aug 31, 2025, 2:27 PM
The Phillies claimed Mayza (lat) off waivers from the Pirates on Sunday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The left-hander has been sidelined since April due to a shoulder injury but has made four rehab appearances in the minors over the past couple weeks. Mayza may need another minor-league appearance or two with his new organization before coming off the injured list.
Weston Wilson
Weston Wilson Pops third homer in win
Sun, Aug 31, 2025, 3:31 AM
Wilson went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 extra-inning victory over Atlanta.
Analysis: It was Wilson's second homer in August and only his third of the season. The utility man should continue to provide depth for the Phillies, but he doesn't have an opening for a regular role while most of the roster is healthy. For the year, Wilson is batting .214 with two doubles, 11 RBI, eight walks and nine runs scored through 70 at-bats.
Cristopher Sanchez
Cristopher Sanchez Goes seven strong in no-decision
Sat, Aug 30, 2025, 9:46 PM
Sanchez did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning win over Atlanta, allowing one run on seven hits and no walks with eight strikeouts over seven innings.
Analysis: Sanchez opened with five scoreless frames before allowing a run in the sixth, generating a whopping 20 whiffs on 97 pitches. It was a strong rebound after the Cy-Young contender allowed a season-high six runs Monday, and he's now delivered a quality start in 19 of his 27 outings this season. He'll carry a 2.66 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 181:41 K:BB across 169.1 innings into a road matchup with the Marlins next weekend.
Trea Turner
Trea Turner Comes up clutch Saturday
Sat, Aug 30, 2025, 9:13 PM
Turner went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and two stolen bases in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Turner was a thorn in Atlanta's side all night, capping his performance with a walk-off two-run single in the 10th inning. It was the shortstop's 10th multi-hit effort in 28 August games, leaving him just four hits behind Bo Bichette's league-leading 172 for the year. Turner is slashing .300/.353/.452 with 14 homers, 64 RBI and 92 runs scored across 560 plate appearances and is tied for fifth in the majors with 34 stolen bases after swiping two Saturday.
Ranger Suarez
Ranger Suarez Dodges damage in no-decision
Sat, Aug 30, 2025, 9:27 AM
Suarez didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 2-1 win over Atlanta, allowing one run on 10 hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: The lefty didn't have his best stuff and dealt with runners in scoring position during every inning he worked, but Suarez was able to limit the damage and leave the mound after 92 pitches (58 strikes) with the score tied 1-1. It was an abrupt fall back to earth after he'd struck out 23 batters in 13.2 innings while winning his prior two outings, but he appears to be back on track after stumbling to a 6.59 ERA over his first five trips to the mound coming out of the All-Star break. Suarez faces a tough challenge in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Milwaukee.
J.T. Realmuto
J.T. Realmuto Idle Friday
Fri, Aug 29, 2025, 3:07 PM
Realmuto isn't part of the starting lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Realmuto will get the night off Friday after making four straight starts behind the plate. He went 1-for-15 with a two-run home run during that stretch. Rafael Marchan will fill in for Realmuto at catcher..
Harrison Bader
Harrison Bader Falls homer short of cycle Thursday
Thu, Aug 28, 2025, 9:17 PM
Bader went 4-for-5 with a triple, a double and three runs scored in Thursday's 19-4 win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Bader had a chance at a cycle despite a first-inning popout, but he singled when he needed a homer to complete the feat in the eighth inning. The outfielder has three efforts of three or more hits over his last six games, going 12-for-21 (.571) with five extra-base hits in that span. On the year, he's up to a .269/.351/.450 slash line with 14 home runs, one triple, 17 doubles, 44 RBI, 42 runs scored and 10 stolen bases through 118 games between Philadelphia and Minnesota. As long as he's hitting well, he should continue to see a majority of the playing time in center field.
Max Kepler
Max Kepler Goes yard Thursday
Thu, Aug 28, 2025, 9:13 PM
Kepler went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk and a second run scored in Thursday's 19-4 win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Kepler supplied a first-inning homer to put the Phillies up 5-3, and they never looked back. While he's been in a part-time role recently, Kepler is showing some quality at the plate, going 15-for-46 (.326) with three homers and eight RBI over his last 12 games. The veteran outfielder is still slashing a paltry .216/.300/.382 with 14 homers, 42 RBI, 50 runs scored, 17 doubles and two stolen bases across 109 contests this season. Fellow left-handed batter Brandon Marsh has been Kepler's main competitor for playing time in left field, though Kepler can shift over to right field on Nick Castellanos' off days.
J.T. Realmuto
J.T. Realmuto Launches homer in big win
Thu, Aug 28, 2025, 9:07 PM
Realmuto went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and a second run scored in Thursday's 19-4 win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Realmuto hit the second of three Philadelphia homers in the first inning, tying the game at 3-3 to erase Atlanta's early lead. The catcher had gone 0-for-12 with five strikeouts over the Phillies' three-game series against the Mets earlier in the week. Realmuto has four homers in his last nine contests and is up to 11 long balls on the year. He's added 47 RBI, 47 runs scored, 24 doubles, one triple, seven stolen bases and a .271/.327/.411 slash line through 111 games.
Bryce Harper
Bryce Harper Lifts homer in rout
Thu, Aug 28, 2025, 9:04 PM
Harper went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and three total runs scored in Thursday's 19-4 win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Harper stretched Philadelphia's lead to 6-3 in the third inning. He's been consistent lately -- Thursday's effort extended his hitting streak to 11 games, during which he has gone 17-for-44 (.386) with three homers and 10 RBI. He's posted four multi-hit efforts during the streak. The 32-year-old is up to a .270/.362/.505 slash line with 22 homers, 63 RBI, 62 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and 29 doubles through 106 contests on the year.
Aaron Nola
Aaron Nola Earns win in blowout
Thu, Aug 28, 2025, 9:01 PM
Nola (3-7) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings to earn the win over Atlanta on Thursday.
Analysis: Nola wasn't at his best Thursday, but Philadelphia's seven-homer barrage gave him plenty of runway to work with. He's still shaking off the rust after a three-month absence -- he's allowed 13 runs (12 earned) across 14.1 innings since returning from an ankle sprain and a stress fracture in his rib. Between injuries and lackluster performance, highlighted by a 6.47 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 66:21 K:BB through 64 innings across 12 starts, it's been a season to forget for the 32-year-old right-hander. He's projected to make his next start at Milwaukee in a challenging matchup.
Kyle Schwarber
Kyle Schwarber Breaks slump with historic game
Thu, Aug 28, 2025, 8:56 PM
Schwarber went 4-for-6 with four home runs and nine RBI in Thursday's 19-4 win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Schwarber entered Thursday stuck in an 0-for-20 slump across his previous six games. Philadelphia's barrage started with his solo shot in the first inning, and he added a two-run blast in the fourth and three-run shots in the fifth and seventh frames to become the 21st player to hit four homers in a single game. He's the third player to achieve the feat in 2025, joining Eugenio Suarez and Nick Kurtz, which makes this the first season where it has happened more than twice. Atlanta has been on the receiving end of two of those games this year. Philadelphia also has a major-league record four players in the four-homer club, as Schwarber joins Ed Delahanty (1896), Chuck Klein (1936) and Mike Schmidt (1976) in the exclusive group. The mammoth performance vaulted Schwarber into sole possession of the National League lead in homers at 49, which is a career high for him and puts him one back of Seattle's Cal Raleigh for the major-league lead. Schwarber leads MLB with 119 RBI while adding 94 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and a .248/.370/.586 slash line through 134 contests.
Nick Castellanos
Nick Castellanos Getting rest Thursday
Thu, Aug 28, 2025, 3:08 PM
Castellanos isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Castellanos will take a seat for the first of four games against Atlanta after going 0-for-6 with three strikeouts and a walk during Philly's last series against the Mets. Brandon Marsh, Harrison Bader and Max Kepler will make up the Phillies' outfield trio Wednesday against right-hander Cal Quantrill.
Taijuan Walker
Taijuan Walker Hit around in seventh loss
Wed, Aug 27, 2025, 8:27 PM
Walker (4-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Mets, allowing four runs on 10 hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Walker was knocked around for a season-high 10 hits, and the four runs allowed tied his season worst. The veteran swingman has thrown at least five innings in seven consecutive outings, and he'll likely remain a streamer in the proper circumstances from a fantasy perspective for the rest of the year. Walker has a serviceable 3.55 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 73:32 K:BB over 101.2 frames, but he'll still be tough to trust in Milwaukee against the first-place Brewers for his next scheduled start.
Brandon Marsh
Brandon Marsh Sitting against righty
Wed, Aug 27, 2025, 3:10 PM
Marsh is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Right-hander Nolan McLean is starting for the Mets, but the left-handed-hitting Marsh will nonetheless begin the game on the bench. Marsh is being held out of the lineup against a righty for the first time since July 2, which was the first game of a doubleheader. Harrison Bader will pick up the start in center field and bat ninth as the Phillies try to avoid the sweep.
Harrison Bader
Harrison Bader Homers in three-hit effort
Tue, Aug 26, 2025, 10:21 PM
Bader went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Mets.
Analysis: The homer was Bader's 14th of the season and his second since being acquired by the Phillies. The veteran outfielder is playing a significant role in center field with his new club, slashing .288/.386/.441 with three doubles, six RBI and eight runs scored over his last 70 plate appearances. The three-hit game was Bader's fourth of the year as well.
Jesus Luzardo
Jesus Luzardo Falters in fifth inning Tuesday
Tue, Aug 26, 2025, 9:37 PM
Luzardo took a no-decision Tuesday against the Mets, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in four-plus innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: Luzardo made it through four scoreless innings to begin his outing, but the Mets got to him for four runs in the fifth frame. It was the southpaw's shortest start since July 4 against the Reds, which also disrupted his streak of five consecutive appearances of at least six innings. Luzardo has a 4.23 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 175:51 K:BB over 149 frames, and he's next set to take the ball against an Atlanta team that's slugging a pitiful .333 versus left-handed pitching since the beginning of August.
