Kyle Stowers
Kyle Stowers Goes through workout Wednesday
Fri, Mar 27, 2026, 10:25 AM
Stowers (hamstring) was able to throw, hit and run during a workout Wednesday, and he had no issues afterward, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The 28-year-old outfielder is beginning the season on the IL and will be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks, meaning that Stowers will probably need at least a brief rehab assignment before he's ready to make his 2026 debut in late April or early May. If he continues to make good progress in his recovery, however, he could return on the short end of that estimate. The Marlins will miss having Stowers' bat in the lineup after he had a breakout 2025, slugging 25 homers with a .912 OPS in 117 contests.
Calvin Faucher
Calvin Faucher Could be top setup man for Miami
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 11:58 AM
Faucher is expected to share setup duties with Anthony Bender for the Marlins to begin the season, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Faucher recorded a career-high 15 saves in 2025, but the offseason addition of Pete Fairbanks bumps him down to an eighth-inning assignment. Faucher appears ready for Opening Day after delivering a 1.80 ERA and 5:2 K:BB in five spring innings, and he's a good bet to blow past the career-best 11 holds he produced in 2024.
John King
John King Set for bullpen role
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 11:55 AM
King has won a spot in the Marlins' Opening Day bullpen, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: After signing a one-year deal with Miami in February, King lines up to be the top left-handed relief option for manager Clayton McCullough. King was sharp this spring, posting a 1.13 ERA and 9:4 K:BB over eight innings, and given his likely role, he could top the career-high 12 holds he recorded between the Rangers and Cardinals in 2023.
Tyler Phillips
Tyler Phillips Snags bullpen spot
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 11:53 AM
Phillips will begin the season as part of the Marlins' bullpen, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The 28-year-old righty produced a 1.13 ERA and 9:5 K:BB in eight innings this spring to secure his spot. Phillips figures to fill a middle-relief role after posting a 2.78 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 52:24 K:BB over 77.2 innings last season with two wins, four saves and eight holds in 54 appearances for Miami.
Javier Sanoja
Javier Sanoja Set for key bench role
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 11:50 AM
Sanoja is expected to be the Marlins primary utility player to begin the season, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Fresh off winning a Gold Glove as 2025's top defensive sub in the NL, Sanoja also produced a .243/.287/.396 slash line with six homers and six steals in 342 plate appearances while playing at least 10 games at second base, third base, shortstop, left field and center field. With Kyle Stowers (hamstring) opening the year on the IL, Sanoja could be part of the solution in left over the first weeks of the campaign.
Michael Petersen
Michael Petersen Will begin season in majors
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 11:46 AM
Petersen has claimed a spot in the Marlins' Opening Day bullpen, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The 31-year-old right-hander did enough this spring to stick around the 26-man roster, producing a 3.12 ERA and 7:3 K:BB over 8.2 Grapefruit League innings. Petersen should handle a low-leverage role after contributing a 4.00 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB in 18 big-league innings last season split between Atlanta and Miami.
Lake Bachar
Lake Bachar Makes Opening Day bullpen
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 11:43 AM
Bachar has won a spot in the Marlins' Opening Day bullpen, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The 30-year-old righty has a surprisingly dominant spring, posting a 2.35 ERA and 13:6 K:BB over 7.2 Grapefruit League innings, but Bachar is still expected to fill a middle-relief role for Miami. In his first full season in the majors in 2025, he delivered a 3.93 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 75:30 K:BB in 71 innings with eight wins, three saves and five holds in 53 appearances.
Esteury Ruiz
Esteury Ruiz Officially placed on IL
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 6:43 PM
The Marlins placed Ruiz (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Sunday.
Analysis: Ruiz sustained a high-grade left oblique strain in this past Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals. The expected recovery time is 6-to-8 weeks, which will keep him out of action until at least mid-May. With Ruiz and Kyle Stowers (oblique) both sidelined to start the season, the Marlins bolstered their outfield depth by signing Austin Slater to a one-year contract Tuesday.
Maximo Acosta
Maximo Acosta Sidelined with oblique strain
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 11:25 AM
The Marlins placed Acosta (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: Acosta will be shelved for at least the first couple weeks of the season with a left oblique strain. He could be assigned to Triple-A Jacksonville rather than the major-league club once he's healthy and completes a rehab assignment.
Kyle Stowers
Kyle Stowers Moves to IL
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 11:23 AM
The Marlins placed Stowers (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: Stowers was diagnosed Sunday with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain and is expected to need 3-to-4 weeks to make a full recovery. With Stowers opening the season on the shelf, the Marlins should have regular reps available in the corner outfield for Griffin Conine and Owen Caissie, and the right-handed-hitting Heriberto Hernandez could see more opportunities against righties after he previously appeared to be in line for a short-side platoon role.
Adam Mazur
Adam Mazur Placed on 60-day IL
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 11:23 AM
The Marlins placed Mazur (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: The move frees a spot on the 40-man roster. Mazur will miss the entirety of the 2026 season after undergoing UCL reconstruction surgery with an internal brace on his right elbow earlier this month.
Austin Slater
Austin Slater Reaches deal with Marlins
Tue, Mar 24, 2026, 3:40 PM
Slater agreed to a one-year, major-league contract with the Marlins on Tuesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Slater parted ways with the Tigers over the weekend after posting an .856 OPS in 15 spring training games. The 33-year-old will provide the Marlins with some veteran outfield depth in the wake of Kyle Stowers' (hamstring) and Esteury Ruiz's (oblique) injuries. Slater has excelled against left-handed pitching throughout his nine-year MLB career, so he'll likely step into a short-side platoon role.
Xavier Edwards
Xavier Edwards Gaining momentum ahead of opener
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 11:29 AM
Edwards is batting .194 (7-for-36) in 14 games this spring with a 4:5 BB:K and three stolen bases in four attempts.
Analysis: While his Grapefruit League numbers aren't overly impressive, Edwards appears to be locking in ahead of Opening Day, as four of his seven hits have come in his last five games, a stretch in which he's gone 4-for-13 (.308) with a couple doubles. The 26-year-old switch hitter doesn't offer any power, but since making his big-league debut in 2023 he's been a strong leadoff option, batting .298 for the Marlins with a .358 OBP and 63 steals in 239 contests.
Jakob Marsee
Jakob Marsee Looking for rhythm at plate
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 11:24 AM
Marsee has gone 0-for-7 in Grapefruit League play after returning from the World Baseball Classic.
Analysis: The 24-year-old batted .174 (4-for-23) over six games for Italy during the WBC, and Marsee hasn't found a groove since rejoining the Marlins. He's locked into the starting center field job, and big things are expected from the former Padres farmhand after he slashed .292/.363/.478 over 55 games in his big-league debut last season with five homers and 14 steals.
Sandy Alcantara
Sandy Alcantara Fans six in final spring outing
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 11:20 AM
Alcantara gave up three runs on five hits over 4.2 innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets. He struck out six without walking a batter.
Analysis: The right-hander tossed 56 of 86 pitches for strikes in his final spring tuneup. Alcantara wraps up camp with a 5.68 ERA over 12.2 innings, but he gave up only one home run and sported a 16:2 K:BB, much more encouraging signs. The 30-year-old is set to take the mound Opening Day at home against the Rockies as he looks to rebound after a disappointing return from Tommy John surgery in 2025.
Tyler Zuber
Tyler Zuber Cut from Miami's camp
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 12:55 PM
The Marlins reassigned Zuber to minor-league camp Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Zuber attended camp as a non-roster invitee but had drawn some early buzz after striking out three of the four batters he faced in his first Grapefruit League appearance. However, the right-hander went on to give up at least one run in three of his final four spring outings to take himself out of the running for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen. Zuber previously made 10 big-league appearances with the Mets and Marlins in 2025, pitching to an 11.25 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB in 12 innings.
Graham Pauley
Graham Pauley Playing third base Sunday
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 12:50 PM
Pauley (forearm) will start at third base and bat sixth in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.
Analysis: After experiencing tightness in his right forearm early in camp, Pauley had been limited to serving as a designated hitter through his first nine spring games, but he's finally been given the green light to make his debut in the field. Assuming he checks out fine following Sunday's contest, Pauley will be part of the Marlins' Opening Day roster, but it's unclear if he'll be deployed as Miami's primary third baseman to begin the season. Connor Norby has outproduced Pauley so far this spring, but if Norby is needed in left field to cover for the loss of Kyle Stowers (hamstring), Pauley would have a clearer path to regular at-bats at the hot corner.
Connor Norby
Connor Norby Might be needed in left field
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 12:15 PM
Norby could see playing time in left field early in the season due to Kyle Stowers (hamstring) being set to begin the season on the IL, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Norby looked set to be the Marlins' starter at third base due to a spring injury to Graham Pauley (forearm), but those plans are now in flux. Norby has played left field twice in recent days during Grapefruit League action, and Pauley is expected to be cleared for defensive duty Sunday. Griffin Conine and Heriberto Hernandez are the top options in left field during Stowers' absence, but they're also at the top of the depth chart at DH. If Norby looks comfortable in the outfield, it would offer another path to keeping his bat in the lineup once Pauley's fully healthy. In 16 games this spring, Norby's batting .310 (13-for-42) with two homers and three steals, albeit with a worrisome 1:15 BB:K.
Cade Gibson
Cade Gibson Sent to Triple-A
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 12:14 PM
The Marlins optioned Gibson to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Gibson surrendered six runs across 8.1 innings during spring training and will miss out on the Opening Day roster. The left-hander is likely to get a look with the Marlins at some point in 2026 after posting a 2.63 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 43:21 K:BB over 54.2 innings last season.
Heriberto Hernandez
Heriberto Hernandez Playing-time outlook improving
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 12:10 PM
Hernandez is likely to see extra playing time in left field due to Kyle Stowers (hamstring) being set to begin the season on the IL, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Hernandez was initially see more time at DH while providing a platoon partner for Stowers in left field and Owen Caissie in right, but he now might need his glove more often. Griffin Conine will also have a big role in the LF/DH mix with Hernandez, while Connor Norby could also get some starts in left if he shows he's up to the task defensively. Hernandez is batting .226 (7-for-31) in 13 Grapefruit League games with three homers, four steals and a 6:9 BB:K.
