Esteury Ruiz
Esteury Ruiz Slated to rejoin team
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 6:35 PM
Ruiz (oblique) has completed his rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville and will meet the Marlins in San Francisco ahead of Friday's series opener against the Giants, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.
Analysis: Ruiz opened the season on the 10-day injured list due to a high-grade left oblique strain that he sustained in spring training. He has progressed enough in his recovery to rejoin the Marlins and could make his MLB season debut during the team's weekend road series. Miami opened up a spot for Ruiz on the 26-man roster by designating Austin Slater for assignment Wednesday, per Craig Mish of FanDuel Sports Network Florida.
Austin Slater
Austin Slater DFA'd by Miami
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 6:20 PM
The Marlins designated Slater for assignment Wednesday, Craig Mish of FanDuel Sports Network Florida reports.
Analysis: Slater has seen sparse playing time in the outfield this season and has gone 4-for-23 (.174) with one steal, one RBI and a 4:9 BB:K this season. With no minor-league options left, the Marlins have elected to let go of the 33-year-old outfielder in order to open up a spot on the roster for Esteury Ruiz (oblique), who is meeting with the team in San Francisco on Friday, per Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com. Slater will go on waivers and could garner interest from a team looking to add depth in the outfield.
Javier Sanoja
Javier Sanoja Three hits in Wednesday's win
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 3:21 PM
Sanoja went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Getting the start at third base and batting ninth before shifting to second base later in the contest, Sanoja rapped out his third three-hit performance of the season. The 23-year-old utility player has seen action at five different positions (second, third, shortstop, left field and center field) already this season while contributing a surprising amount of offense, slashing .352/.397/.407 through 18 games with three doubles, two steals, one run and nine RBI.
Pete Fairbanks
Pete Fairbanks Nails down save No. 5
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 3:16 PM
Fairbanks struck out one in a scoreless two-thirds of an inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: The Marlins held a 4-0 lead heading into the ninth inning, but after Lake Bachar served up a solo shot to Ivan Herrera to lead off the frame and then walked Nolan Gorman, Fairbanks was brought in to quell the threat. The right-hander has converted three straight save chances over the last four days, but with Miami having a scheduled off day Thursday, manager Clayton McCullough may not have to worry about giving him some rest and finding an alternate closing option. On the season, Fairbanks has a 7,27 ERA that doesn't line up with his much more palatable 1.04 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB through 8.2 innings.
Janson Junk
Janson Junk Blanks Cards in short outing
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 3:09 PM
Junk (1-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 4-1 victory over the Cardinals, allowing one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: The right-hander got a surprisingly early hook after just 56 pitches (38 strikes), but he was due to face the top of the St. Louis order for a third time in the top of the sixth, and manager Clayton McCullough didn't indicate after the game that Junk was dealing with any sort of injury. Junk has given the Marlins at least five innings in four straight outings, but if his usage continues to be this restricted, he'll have a hard time keeping that streak going. He'll take a 3.67 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB through 27 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week against the Dodgers.
Graham Pauley
Graham Pauley Sitting against righty
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 9:31 AM
Pauley is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Pauley often sits versus southpaws, but he'll be heading to the bench Wednesday while right-hander Kyle Leahy starts for the Cardinals. Though Javier Sanoja will fill in at third base in the series finale, Pauley could face a greater threat from Connor Norby for reps at the hot corner once Christopher Morel (oblique) returns from the injured list. Morel had been in line to serve as the Marlins' primary first baseman before straining his oblique prior to Opening Day, but Norby has been handling those duties through the first four weeks of the season and has produced a .738 OPS. Pauley, meanwhile, has struggled to a .492 OPS and has struck out at a 27.3 percent clip over 55 plate appearances.
Connor Norby
Connor Norby Receiving breather Wednesday
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 9:27 AM
Norby is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Liam Hicks will fill in at first base for Norby, who will receive a rest for the matinee game after starting in each of the Marlins' previous 11 contests while slashing .282/.326/.436 with one home run, five RBI and three runs. Christopher Morel (oblique) could soon return from the injured list and unseat Norby as the Marlins' primary first baseman, though Norby might still have a path to receiving steady reps at either third base or designated hitter.
Kyle Stowers
Kyle Stowers Taking seat for day game
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 9:24 AM
Stowers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Stowers missed the first three weeks of the season due to a right hamstring strain before coming off the injured list Sunday and starting in each of the Marlins' subsequent three games while going 3-for-10 with a double, two walks and two runs. The 28-year-old hasn't suffered any reported setbacks since returning, so his absence Wednesday looks to be the result of him getting rest for a day game after a night game.
Jakob Marsee
Jakob Marsee Swats first homer of 2026
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 9:05 AM
Marsee went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: The center fielder launched his first homer of the season, taking Dustin May deep to lead off the bottom of the first inning, but it was the only extra-base hit Miami batters managed to produce all night. Marsee has struggled to find much consistency to begin the year but he may be heating up, slashing .242/.390/.394 over the last nine games with two steals, two RBI, seven runs and a 7:6 BB:K.
Chris Paddack
Chris Paddack Fans seven in Tuesday's loss
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:59 AM
Paddack (0-4) took the loss Tuesday as the Marlins fell 5-3 to the Cardinals, surrendering five runs on eight hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: The seven Ks were a season high, but it was otherwise another shaky performance from Paddack, who failed to last five innings for the fourth time in five outings. The veteran right-hander has served up five homers in 24 innings, leaving him with a 6.38 ERA and 1.54 WHIP despite a seemingly strong 25:6 K:BB, and Paddack may be running out of time to turn things around before he gets bumped from the rotation by younger arms like Robby Snelling. Paddack's unlikely to collect his first win of 2026 in his next start, which is set to come on the road early next week against the Dodgers.
Agustin Ramirez
Agustin Ramirez Slugs second homer
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 10:52 AM
Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-3 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: The 24-year-old backstop took Michael McGreevy deep in the fifth inning, giving the Marlins a brief 2-1 lead before they moved ahead for good in the sixth. Ramirez is struggling to build some momentum at the plate, striking out at least once in six straight games while batting just .143 (3-for-21). On the season, he's slashing .222/.297/.370 with two homers, one steal, 11 runs and 11 RBI in 22 contests.
Otto Lopez
Otto Lopez Swipes fourth bag
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 10:49 AM
Lopez went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's 5-3 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: The Marlins' shortstop extended his hitting streak to nine games with another strong performance. Lopez has had a blistering start to 2026, slashing .337/.391/.554 through 22 contests with 10 extra-base hits, including three homers, along with four steals, 11 RBI and 18 runs while consistently batting in the middle of the order.
Pete Fairbanks
Pete Fairbanks Collects fourth save
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 10:47 AM
Fairbanks struck out two and gave up one run on one hit in the ninth inning Monday to record his fourth save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: A leadoff triple by Masyn Winn made things interesting, but Fairbanks locked in after a Ramon Urias sacrifice fly brought him home. The right-hander has converted four of five save chances to begin the season, but a couple shaky appearances have left him with a 7.88 ERA through eight innings despite a sharp 1.13 WHIP and 12:1 K:BB. Fairbanks has a firm hold of the closing job for Miami.
Max Meyer
Max Meyer Fans season-high eight Monday
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 10:38 AM
Meyer didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 5-3 win over the Cardinals, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out eight.
Analysis: The eight K's were a season high, and Meyer saw a season-high workload with 5.1 innings and 91 pitches (59 strikes). The right-hander is beginning to find a groove, posting a 3.52 ERA and 17:6 K:BB over his last three starts and 15.1 innings, but he has yet to put together a truly dominant outing despite the fact that his slider is producing an eye-popping 50.8 percent whiff rate in the early going. Meyer will look to carry his momentum into his next start, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in San Francisco.
Christopher Morel
Christopher Morel Kicking off rehab assignment
Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 9:14 AM
Morel (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Morel is set to play five innings at first base in what will be his first game action since he went down with a left oblique strain in late March. He'll need a handful of rehab contests before rejoining the Marlins' active roster. Morel was slated to be Miami's primary first baseman before getting hurt.
Maximo Acosta
Maximo Acosta Activated and optioned
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:31 PM
The Marlins activated Acosta (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Analysis: A left oblique strain delayed Acosta's start to the season. He's now recovered and has played three rehab games, but the Marlins have elected to keep him at Jacksonville where he can play every day.
Kyle Stowers
Kyle Stowers Two hits in season debut
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 9:04 AM
Stowers went 2-for-3 with a double in Sunday's win over the Brewers.
Analysis: Getting the start in left field and batting cleanup in his season debut, Stowers also reached base on a hit by pitch. The 28-year-old outfielder is looking to make up for lost time after a breakout 2025 in which he slashed .288/.368/.544 with 25 homers in 117 contests, and he should be a fixture in the heart of the order for the Marlins.
Christopher Morel
Christopher Morel Closing in on rehab assignment
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 10:40 PM
Morel (oblique) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville during the upcoming week, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.
Analysis: Morel was slated to start at first base in the Marlins' March 27 season opener versus the Rockies, only to be scratched shortly before the game due to a left oblique strain and then landing on the injured list a day later. The 26-year-old was given an estimated 4-to-6-week recovery timeline and looks to be eyeing a return on the short end of that window. Morel will presumably remain with Jacksonville throughout the upcoming week to pick up at-bats and regain timing at the plate, but he looks like he'll have a shot at returning from the IL before the end of April. Once he's reinstated, Morel may face competition for starts at first base from Connor Norby, though Norby could also move across the diamond and unseat the struggling Graham Pauley as the Marlins' primary third baseman.
Pete Fairbanks
Pete Fairbanks Locks down third save
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 9:55 PM
Fairbanks earned the save Sunday against the Brewers, tossing a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.
Analysis: Fairbanks was dominant in the ninth, striking out the first two batters he faced on just three pitches each before inducing a groundout to secure the victory. It was the right-hander's third save of the season. After allowing three runs in back-to-back appearances to begin April, Fairbanks has now posted consecutive perfect frames, reinforcing that his role as the primary closer should remain secure.
Eury Perez
Eury Perez Strikes out seven over six innings
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 9:21 PM
Perez (2-1) earned the win Sunday against the Brewers, allowing one unearned run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings.
Analysis: Perez turned in a strong performance, cruising through five scoreless innings, including striking out the side in the second, before running into minor trouble in the sixth. After issuing a leadoff walk to David Hamilton, a throwing error by catcher Liam Hicks allowed him to reach third, and he later scored on a groundout. The outing was a much-needed correction after Perez allowed 15 runs over his first 20 innings of the season. The right-hander now owns a 4.15 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 27:12 K:BB across 26 innings, and will look to build on this performance in his next scheduled start against a Giants lineup that has struggled offensively this year.
