Jac Caglianone
Jac Caglianone Exits with shoulder injury
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 2:59 PM
Caglianone was removed from Saturday's game against the Twins with right shoulder soreness.
Analysis: Caglianone crashed shoulder first into the side wall in right field during Friday's contest, and he seemingly aggravated his shoulder while striking out during his at-bat in the first inning Saturday. The severity of his injury remains unknown, but the Royals could provide more details on his status after the game.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Back in lineup
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 10:31 AM
Garcia (hamstring) will serve as the Royals' designated hitter and bat fourth during Saturday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: Garcia missed six consecutive starts while recovering from a strained right hamstring, but he was able to work as a pinch hitter in both of the Royals' last two games. He's now been cleared to rejoin the starting nine, though the Royals will begin by using him as their DH while Josh Rojas mans the hot corner.
Salvador Perez
Salvador Perez Day off Saturday
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 10:28 AM
Perez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota.
Analysis: Perez will take a seat on the bench to begin Saturday's contest after going 1-for-8 with a sacrifice fly over the first two games of the series. His absence will put Carter Jensen behind the plate, giving Maikel Garcia a start at DH and Josh Rojas a turn at third base.
Luinder Avila
Luinder Avila Gets another turn through rotation
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 7:53 AM
Avila is slated to start Saturday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: After primarily working out of the bullpen throughout the season, Avila moved into the rotation this past Monday against the Reds. Avila came through with a serviceable performance in Cincinnati, picking up a win while striking out five batters and giving up one earned run on two hits and four walks across five innings. Avila tossed 86 pitches in that contest, so he should be capable of handling a traditional starter's workload moving forward.
Michael Wacha
Michael Wacha Stumbles late in loss
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 11:01 PM
Wacha (4-4) took the loss against the Twins on Friday, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and no walks with two strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
Analysis: Wacha entered the sixth inning at just 54 pitches with a 2-1 lead, but he unraveled for four runs while failing to complete the frame. After reeling off five straight quality starts from May 4 through May 25, the veteran right-hander has surrendered 10 earned runs over his past two outings. He still owns a solid 3.44 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:26 K:BB across 81 innings and will take those numbers into a home matchup against the Rangers next week.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Remains out of lineup Friday
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 3:15 PM
Garcia (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: Garcia is missing his sixth straight start, though he was able to pinch hit in Thursday's 8-6 win over the Twins. With Garcia absent from the starting nine, Nick Loftin is starting at third base and batting eighth against right-hander Zebby Matthews.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Blasts another homer Thursday
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 10:57 AM
Massey went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 8-6 win over the Twins.
Analysis: Massey got in on the offensive action with a single in the second inning before going yard to open the fourth frame. It marked his third homer over the past five games, during which the second baseman has hit safely and driven in at least one run in each contest. Across 47 contests in 2026, Massey is slashing .266/.287/.477 with six homers, nine doubles, 20 RBI, 16 runs and a stolen base.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Out of lineup again Thursday
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 3:31 PM
Garcia (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Twins.
Analysis: It will be a fifth straight start missed for Garcia, who is working his way back from a right hamstring injury. The Royals are optimistic Garcia will be able to avoid the injured list, but a decision one way or another will need to be made soon. Nick Loftin is again filling in at third base in Garcia's stead.
Jonathan India
Jonathan India Shifted to 60-day injured list
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 3:24 PM
The Royals transferred India (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.
Analysis: The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Josh Rojas. India is out for the season after undergoing surgery in late April to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, so his move to the 60-day IL was inevitable.
Stephen Kolek
Stephen Kolek Placed on family emergency list
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 3:23 PM
The Royals placed Kolek on the family medical emergency leave list Thursday.
Analysis: By rule, Kolek can be away from the club for the next 3-to-7 days while he tends to personal matters. The right-hander's next scheduled start is tentatively lined up to come Tuesday at home against the Rangers. Kolek should be back for that outing, but his fantasy managers should check back in a few days to make sure.
Josh Rojas
Josh Rojas Contract selected
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 3:18 PM
The Royals selected Rojas' contract from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.
Analysis: Rojas will receive another opportunity in the majors after slashing .246/.309/.433 with six home runs and a 16:32 BB:K over 48 games with Omaha. The 31-year-old will provide infield depth while Maikel Garcia (hamstring) is banged up, and Rojas is capable of handling the outfield, as well.
Lucas Erceg
Lucas Erceg Manager playing matchups at closer
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 11:07 AM
Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Wednesday that he will play the matchups in the ninth inning for the short term, but he still views Erceg as a long-term closer option, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.
Analysis: Quatraro made the statement prior to Alex Lange notching his first save of the season in Wednesday's win over the Reds. Erceg blew his sixth save of the season Tuesday and holds a 6.45 ERA with a 20:15 K:BB across 22.1 innings this season. While Erceg could still see save chances for the Royals in the immediate future, he will have to contend with Lange, Daniel Lynch and Matt Strahm. Carlos Estevez (shoulder) should also throw his hat back in the ring if he can get healthy.
Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. Tallies 20th steal in win
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 2:40 AM
Witt went 1-for-4 with a run scored, a stolen base and a walk in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Cincinnati.
Analysis: Witt wasn't a major factor with the bat in Kansas City's win, though he was able to swipe his 20th base of the season, making him one of four players in MLB to reach the mark this year. The shortstop has been particularly active on the bases of late, tallying five steals across the past four contests. It's been a stellar season for the young star, who's slashing .283/.356/.467 with 26 extra-base hits (nine home runs), 26 RBI, 31 runs and an MLB-best 3.7 fWAR among position players through 62 games.
Vinnie Pasquantino
Vinnie Pasquantino Goes yard in win
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 2:29 AM
Pasquantino went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Cincinnati.
Analysis: Pasquantino opened the scoring early, turning on an elevated fastball from Chase Burns in the first inning for a two-run homer. With a single added in the eighth frame, Wednesday marked the first baseman's fourth multi-hit effort over the past six games. Pasquantino is looking to turn the corner in what has been a disappointing 2026 campaign, as he's hitting .214 with a .648 OPS, six homers, seven doubles, two triples, 28 RBI, 22 runs and two stolen bases across 59 games.
Nick Loftin
Nick Loftin Lifts first homer
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 2:21 AM
Loftin went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Reds.
Analysis: Loftin provided some insurance with a line-drive, two-run shot in the top of the ninth inning to extend the Royals' lead to 5-2. It marked his first homer of the campaign and sixth career long ball across parts of four MLB seasons. The utility man is hitting just .218 and has primarily operated in a reserve role with 96 plate appearances to date, but Loftin could be in line for increased opportunities at third base if Maikel Garcia (hamstring) requires a stint on the injured list.
Alex Lange
Alex Lange Holds on for first save
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 10:37 PM
Lange secured the save Wednesday against the Reds, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk in the ninth inning. He struck out two.
Analysis: After closer Lucas Erceg blew his sixth save of the season Tuesday, Lange converted his first save chance Wednesday but did allow the potential tying run to get to the plate. The Royals figure to continue exploring their other ninth-inning options at least until Carlos Estevez (shoulder) makes his way back into the bullpen mix. Lange has a lackluster 4.33 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB over 27 innings, but he does appear to be worth a speculative add in fantasy leagues for managers in need of saves.
Stephen Kolek
Stephen Kolek Season-high eight strikeouts
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 10:29 PM
Kolek took a no-decision Wednesday against the Reds, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out eight.
Analysis: Kolek fanned a season-high eight Wednesday in what was already his fourth quality start over six outings for the year. The 29-year-old right-hander has been outstanding since coming over from the Padres at last year's trade deadline, posting a 2.66 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 48:13 K:BB over 71 career innings for the Royals dating back to last season. Kolek, who next lines up to take the ball at home versus the Rangers, is making a strong case to remain in Kansas City's rotation even once Cole Ragans (elbow) is healthy.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Held out again Wednesday
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 1:49 PM
Garcia (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Cincinnati.
Analysis: This marks Garcia's fourth consecutive absence from the starting lineup as he continues to deal with a right hamstring issue. The Royals have held off on putting Garcia on the 10-day injured list, but a move will have to be made soon if he's not game-ready in a hurry. Nick Loftin is filling in again at third base Wednesday in Garcia's stead.
Lucas Erceg
Lucas Erceg Blows another save Tuesday
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 8:12 AM
Erceg blew the save in Tuesday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Reds, allowing one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.
Analysis: Tasked with protecting a 3-2 lead, Erceg came on and allowed a leadoff homer to pinch hitter Will Benson to tie the game. Erceg then walked a pair before getting an inning-ending strikeout. Erceg has been dreadful in his last four outings, surrendering nine runs on 14 hits and two walks with three strikeouts across three innings. He has three blown saves in that span, and it's fair to wonder if he's pitched his way out of the ninth. Erceg has six blown saves in 17 chances this season, while his ERA has ballooned to 6.45 with a 20:15 K:BB across 22.1 innings.
Noah Cameron
Noah Cameron Dazzles over 7 IP in no-decision
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 8:06 AM
Cameron didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Reds, allowing one run on one hit and no walks with eight strikeouts across seven innings.
Analysis: It was perhaps the best start of Cameron's career, as he matched his career high in innings pitched. His only blemish was a solo homer allowed to Spencer Steer in the fifth inning. Cameron retired all other 21 batters he faced, and it still wasn't enough to get the win as the Kansas City bullpen gave up one run in each of the eighth, ninth and 10th innings. Cameron has three quality starts in his last four outings and owns a 4.22 ERA and 56:17 K:BB across 59.2 innings this season. His 3.38 FIP suggests he's been a bit unlucky, and the left-hander's strikeout rate is up while his walk rate is down compared to his 2025 rookie campaign.
