Michael Wacha
Michael Wacha Tabbed to start Monday
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 10:42 AM
Wacha (illness) is expected to start against Cleveland on Monday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Wacha came down with an illness in the middle of this week and couldn't make his scheduled start Friday versus Milwaukee. The right-hander appears to be feeling better given that he will take his turn Monday. Noah Cameron is slated to start Tuesday, while Cole Ragans is scheduled to start the series finale Wednesday, per Rogers.
Eli Morgan
Eli Morgan Back to Triple-A after twin bill
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 8:43 AM
The Royals returned Morgan to Triple-A Omaha following Saturday's doubleheader with the Brewers.
Analysis: Morgan will head back to Omaha following a dominant relief outing in his Royals debut Saturday. After Kansas City called up the veteran righty from Omaha ahead of the second game of the twin bill and designated him as its 27th man, Morgan proceeded to strike out five batters while allowing two baserunners over three scoreless frames en route to earning his second career save in the Royals' 8-2 win.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Doubles in three-hit effort
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 11:07 PM
Garcia went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's Game 2 win over Milwaukee.
Analysis: It was Garcia's second multi-hit game of the young campaign, and he picked up only his second extra-base knock. The infielder has logged at least one hit in six of his first eight contests, also posting one stolen base thus far. Garcia has been Kansas City's everyday leadoff man to begin the year, which should give him plenty of chances to score runs and swipe bags in the future.
Salvador Perez
Salvador Perez Smacks solo homer in nightcap
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 11:03 PM
Perez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and an additional run scored in Saturday's Game 2 win over Milwaukee.
Analysis: The homer was Perez's second of the young season, and he also drew a season-high two walks. The veteran backstop has hit safely in six of his first eight games, though he's without any multi-hit efforts to this point. Perez has hit cleanup in each of Kansas City's first eight contests, so he should have plenty of RBI chances moving ahead.
Seth Lugo
Seth Lugo Punches out seven Saturday
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 10:47 PM
Lugo took a no-decision Saturday against the Brewers, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: Lugo built off a successful season debut, when he permitted five hits across 6.1 shutout innings against Atlanta, and he perhaps most notably escaped bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning Saturday. The right-hander took on a full workload in his second start, launching 103 pitches, and he also generated a respectable 10 whiffs. Lugo has a favorable matchup versus the division-rival White Sox on tap for his next start, so he should continue to hold streaming appeal.
Luinder Avila
Luinder Avila Struggles in first big-league start
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 10:23 PM
Avila (0-1) took the loss Saturday against the Brewers, allowing five runs on eight hits and three walks in three innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: Making his first career major-league start, Avila was tagged for four extra-base hits Saturday. The right-hander lacked control on top of his poor pitch location, tossing only 40 of his 73 pitches for strikes. Michael Wacha needed his turn in the Kansas City rotation skipped this weekend to deal with an illness, so the expectation is that Avila was just making a spot start against Milwaukee and may head back to the minor leagues shortly.
Carter Jensen
Carter Jensen Sitting to begin twin bill
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 10:36 AM
Jensen isn't in the lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Brewers.
Analysis: Jensen has gone 2-for-16 with a home run and eight strikeouts to begin the season, and he'll now begin Saturday's festivities on the bench. Starling Marte will occupy the DH spot instead and bat sixth.
Jonathan India
Jonathan India Sitting out Game 1
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 10:32 AM
India isn't in the lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Brewers.
Analysis: India will take a seat in the dugout to begin Saturday's twin bill after going 3-for-12 with a homer, five RBI and two runs scored during Kansas City's previous series against the Twins. Nick Loftin will start at the keystone and bat eighth.
Luinder Avila
Luinder Avila Rained out Friday
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 5:48 PM
Avila will not make his scheduled start Friday against the Brewers as the game has been postponed due to inclement weather.
Analysis: Friday's game will be made up right away Saturday as part of a split doubleheader. Avila was set for a spot start with Michael Wacha under the weather, and Avila will still get his opportunity in Saturday's matinee, per Anne Rogers of MLB.com.
Jonathan India
Jonathan India Getting day off Friday
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 2:55 PM
India is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers.
Analysis: It's a routine day off for India, who has now started five of the first seven contests at second base this season. Nick Loftin is handling the keystone and batting eighth in Friday's series opener.
Carter Jensen
Carter Jensen Out of lineup again Friday
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 2:50 PM
Jensen is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers.
Analysis: Jensen had to be scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Twins after he overslept, and he remains out of the lineup Friday even as the Brewers are sending a righty in Chad Patrick to the bump. He entered Thursday's game late on defense and presumably will be available off the bench again Friday. Starling Marte is at designated hitter and batting sixth for the Royals on Friday.
Bailey Falter
Bailey Falter Sidelined with elbow inflammation
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 2:35 PM
The Royals placed Falter on the 15-day injured list Friday with left elbow inflammation.
Analysis: Falter was knocked around for three runs while recording just one out in a relief appearance Wednesday versus the Twins, but it seems he might not have been pitching at 100 percent. The lefty will be eligible to return in mid-April, but it's unclear at this juncture how much time he might miss.
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Fans eight in tough-luck loss
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 3:52 AM
Ragans (0-2) took the loss Thursday against the Twins, allowing one unearned run on four hits and one walk while striking out eight over six innings.
Analysis: Ragans turned in a strong outing and bounced back nicely from his rough season debut, but the southpaw was tagged with the loss due to a defensive miscue and limited run support. His lone blemish came in the second inning when a pickoff attempt by Salvador Perez sailed high and deflected into center field, allowing a run to score. Ragans otherwise kept Minnesota in check, limiting hard contact while once again racking up strikeouts to bump his season total to 13 across 10 innings. After injuries sidelined the 28-year-old for much of last season, Thursday's performance was an encouraging one. Ragans will look to replicate that success in his next start, scheduled to come against Cleveland.
Luinder Avila
Luinder Avila Set for spot start
Thu, Apr 2, 2026, 7:06 PM
Avila will draw the start on the mound Friday against the Brewers, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Avila was called up from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, and he will now be tasked with taking the bump in the Royals' series opener against Milwaukee on Friday. The right-hander will replace Michael Wacha (illness) on the mound as Wacha is dealing with an apparent illness. Avila posted 1.29 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 14 innings in 13 appearances with Kansas City in 2025, and Friday's start will be his first as a major-leaguer.
Michael Wacha
Michael Wacha Dealing with illness
Thu, Apr 2, 2026, 7:00 PM
Wacha (illness) will be forced to miss his scheduled start Friday against the Brewers, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Wacha is dealing with an apparent illness and as a result, he will now have his turn skipped in the Royals' rotation. The 34-year-old will shift his sights on being ready to go for his next tentative turn on the mound in Cleveland next week. In the meantime, Kansas City recalled Luinder Avila from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, and he's expected to toe the rubber in the team's series opener against Milwaukee at home Friday.
Luinder Avila
Luinder Avila Recalled from Triple-A
Thu, Apr 2, 2026, 12:25 PM
The Royals recalled Avila from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Analysis: Avila turned in a 1.29 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 14 innings in the big leagues last season and will now join the big club for the first time this year. He made it through just three innings during his first start of the season in Triple-A, so he likely isn't stretched out enough to join Kansas City's rotation and therefore figures to act as a multi-inning reliever for the Royals.
Carter Jensen
Carter Jensen Scratched from Thursday's lineup
Thu, Apr 2, 2026, 12:20 PM
Jensen was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup against the Twins, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Jensen is presumably dealing with some sort of injury, though the Royals have not revealed the reason for why he was scratched. More information should be available on Jensen's status soon. Jac Caglianone moved from right field into the designated-hitter spot in Jensen's place, and Lane Thomas entered the lineup in right field.
Noah Cameron
Noah Cameron Strong in season debut
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 11:28 PM
Cameron (1-0) allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings to earn the win over the Twins on Wednesday.
Analysis: Cameron's season debut was a positive one, as he was able to limit the damage to a Brooks Lee RBI single in the fifth inning. Cameron made a strong first impression in 2025, starting 24 regular-season games and pitching to a 2.99 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 114:43 K:BB over 138.1 innings. Walks and long balls will be something to keep an eye on in his second big-league campaign, as he gave up 18 homers last season and plenty more loud contact that didn't get over the fence. He's projected to make his next start on the road in Cleveland, which could be the first outing of a two-start week for Cameron.
Steven Cruz
Steven Cruz Summoned from minors
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 3:16 PM
The Royals recalled Cruz from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: He'll take the roster spot vacated by Carlos Estevez (foot), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Cruz posted a 3.74 ERA and 38:18 K:BB over 45.2 frames for the Royals last season and should work low-leverage innings.
Carlos Estevez
Carlos Estevez Goes on IL with foot contusion
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 3:14 PM
The Royals placed Estevez (foot) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Estevez suffered a left foot contusion during an appearance Saturday in Atlanta when he was struck by a line drive. The reliever has also been dealing with velocity and delivery issues that have affected his overall effectiveness, and he'll get a chance to get back on track while on the IL and when he presumably goes on a rehab assignment. Estevez will be eligible to be reinstated April 14, but his timetable to return is currently up in the air. Lucas Erceg has stepped in as closer for the Royals and should continue in that role indefinitely.
