Vinnie Pasquantino
Vinnie Pasquantino Homers again in loss
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 9:20 PM
Pasquantino went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: Pasquantino provided the only offense for the Royals, driving in a run on a groundout in the sixth inning before tying the game with a solo shot in the eighth. After a slow start, the first baseman has recorded hits in three straight contests, highlighted by back-to-back games with home runs. For the year, he's slashing .173/.256/.293 with four extra-base hits, 10 RBI and six runs scored across 86 plate appearances.
Michael Wacha
Michael Wacha Strikes out six in no-decision
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 9:15 PM
Wacha did not factor into the decision in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts over six innings.
Analysis: Wacha surrendered a two-run homer in the fourth inning but otherwise kept the Yankees in check. It actually marked a season high in runs allowed for the 34-year-old, and he's now 4-for-4 in quality starts to open the campaign. He'll carry a sterling 1.00 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB over 27 innings into a home matchup against the Orioles next week.
Isaac Collins
Isaac Collins Available off bench Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 5:16 PM
Collins (knee) is not in the Royals' starting lineup against the Yankees on Friday but is available off the bench, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Friday marks the third consecutive game that Collins is out of the lineup due to a right knee contusion, but he's progressed enough in his recovery that he can enter the game should the Royals require his services. Collins has opened the season slashing .214/.327/.310 with one home run, four RBI and four runs scored over 49 plate appearances.
Isaac Collins
Isaac Collins Still out of lineup Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 3:14 PM
Collins (knee) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Collins will miss his third straight start after he was injured Tuesday against the Tigers. With Collins sitting Friday, Lane Thomas is manning left field and batting sixth against right-hander Cam Schlittler.
Alex Lange
Alex Lange Scoreless inning in loss
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 2:34 PM
Lange allowed two hits and struck out two in one inning Thursday in the 10-9 loss to the Tigers.
Analysis: Lange, the clubhouse leader in saves back in 2023, struggled mightily in 2024 largely due to command issues (17 walks in 18.2 innings) before being demoted to the minors. The 30-year-old missed the majority of last season, pitching only one time, with a lat injury, but signed with the Royals this offseason to slot in as a serviceable middle reliever. Kansas City has deployed Lange in more of an inning-eater role, compiling one or more innings in each of his last four appearances, to relative success (3.52 ERA).
Daniel Lynch IV
Daniel Lynch IV Throws scoreless inning
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 11:23 AM
Lynch picked up a hold Thursday, striking out one batter in a perfect eighth inning during a 10-9 loss to Detroit.
Analysis: The 29-year-old left-hander maintained a one-run lead on an efficient seven pitches (six strikes), only for Lucas Erceg to blow the save in the ninth inning. Lynch has now appeared in seven games, allowing only one earned run in 7.2 innings and recording at least one strikeout in each appearance.
Lucas Erceg
Lucas Erceg Blows save Thursday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 9:44 AM
Erceg (0-1) blew the save and took the loss Thursday against the Tigers. He allowed three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning.
Analysis: Erceg entered the ninth inning with a two-run lead but failed to secure the victory, as a two-out double from Riley Greene tied the game at 9-9 before Colt Keith delivered a walk-off single. Erceg had converted each of his first five save opportunities prior to Thursday, but this outing bloated his ERA from 2.70 to 6.14 and his WHIP from 1.05 to 1.50 WHIP across 7.1 innings and eight appearances. The 30-year-old stepped into the closer role after Carlos Estevez (foot) was placed on the injured list following his season debut, but with the incumbent expected to begin a rehab assignment soon, Erceg's time filling the ninth-inning role may not last much longer.
Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. Trio of hits in loss
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 9:21 AM
Witt went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored in Thursday's loss to Detroit.
Analysis: Witt turned in one of his strongest personal performances of the young season, recording his first three-hit game and first multi-XBH effort of the year. Thursday's showing raised the star shortstop's OPS to .708, though he has yet to homer. His numbers have been trending upward, as Witt is slashing .313/.371/.469 over his past eight games with five doubles, five RBI, three runs and a stolen base, leaving little cause for concern with the 25-year-old.
Bailey Falter
Bailey Falter Allows two runs in rehab outing
Thu, Apr 16, 2026, 10:58 AM
Falter (elbow) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk over one inning with Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday. He struck out one.
Analysis: Falter made his first rehab appearance as he works his way back from left elbow inflammation. It wasn't a strong outing for the southpaw, as after opening the frame with a strikeout, he allowed loud contact and traffic on the basepaths that resulted in two runs. Prior to landing on the injured list, Falter made two relief appearances for the Royals, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks across 3.1 innings with four strikeouts. His next rehab outing is scheduled for Saturday, barring any setbacks.
Isaac Collins
Isaac Collins Held out again Thursday
Thu, Apr 16, 2026, 10:06 AM
Collins (knee) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's tilt in Detroit.
Analysis: He'll miss a second straight start after suffering a right knee contusion in the first game of the series Tuesday. Collins is considered day-to-day. Michael Massey will play left field and bat eighth for the Royals.
Stephen Kolek
Stephen Kolek Scoreless effort in rehab outing
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 5:04 PM
Kolek (oblique) allowed no runs on three hits and a walk over four innings during a rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. He struck out two.
Analysis: Kolek made the first start of his rehab assignment as he works his way back from a Grade 1 left oblique strain suffered in spring training. The right-hander threw 54 pitches (36 strikes) and maintained a fastball velocity of 94.3 mph, in line with his previous levels. The 28-year-old should continue to build up his workload for another couple rehab outings before being activated from the injured list, though he may be ticketed to remain at Triple-A upon activation with no clear opening in the big-league rotation.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Handling steady role
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 2:46 PM
Massey will start at second base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Massey will be part of the Kansas City lineup for the fifth time in seven games, with his lone two absences during that stretch coming against left-handed starting pitchers. He may have at least temporarily supplanted Jonathan India as the Royals' preferred option at the keystone, but Massey will need to raise his production at the plate to build more job security. Since being activated from the injured list April 6, Massey has gone 2-for-11 with a double and a 0:3 BB:K.
Jonathan India
Jonathan India Dip in playing time
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 2:12 PM
India is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Detroit.
Analysis: It's the third time over the last four games against right-handed pitching that India has been out of the lineup, as Michael Massey seems to have inched past him as the preferred option at second base. India is hitless over his last five games and is slashing just .175/.340/.325 on the season.
Isaac Collins
Isaac Collins Excluded from lineup
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 2:08 PM
Collins (knee) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Tigers.
Analysis: Collins departed Tuesday's 2-1 loss with a right knee contusion after running into the side wall and falling into the stands on a catch attempt. He's considered day-to-day. Lane Thomas will occupy left field and bat eighth for the Royals on Wednesday.
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Settles for no-decision Tuesday
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:25 AM
Ragans didn't factor into the decision in the Royals' 2-1 loss to the Tigers on Tuesday. He allowed one hit and four walks while striking out one batter over six scoreless innings.
Analysis: The southpaw exited the mound after 93 pitches (56 strikes) with Kansas City clinging to a 1-0 lead, but Nick Mears coughed it up in the bottom of the eighth inning. Ragans is still looking for his first win of 2026, but he'll take a 3.78 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB through 16.2 innings into his next start, which is set to come on the road this weekend against the Yankees.
Isaac Collins
Isaac Collins Exits early Tuesday
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 6:06 PM
Collins was removed from Tuesday's game against the Tigers with a right knee contusion.
Analysis: Collins ran into the fence and fell into the stands while attempting to catch a foul ball in the first inning and came down awkwardly on his shoulder/head. He seems to have escaped the incident with nothing other than a bruised knee, so an extended absence shouldn't be necessary. Tyler Tolbert entered the game as Collins' replacement, though Michael Massey and Lane Thomas would also be in the mix for extra playing time if Collins has to miss any starts.
Bailey Falter
Bailey Falter Cleared for rehab assignment
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 11:55 AM
Falter (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
Analysis: Falter landed on the injured list in early April with left elbow inflammation but is ready to test things out in a game setting. The southpaw has been touched up for five runs across 3.1 innings to begin the regular season and will be used in a mop-up role once he's back in the Royals' bullpen.
Carlos Estevez
Carlos Estevez Nearing rehab assignment
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 11:51 AM
Royals president of baseball operations J.J. Picollo said Tuesday on 96.5 The Fan that he's hopeful Estevez (foot) will be ready to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha within the next five days.
Analysis: Working his way back from a left foot contusion, Estevez resumed throwing off a mound last week, and it appears he could be ready to pitch in rehab games before the end of this week. The Royals want Estevez to be healthy but also to rediscover some lost velocity, so the reliever might stay on a rehab assignment until he gets into a groove. Lucas Erceg has gone 5-for-5 in save chances for the Royals and could keep the closer job even after Estevez returns.
Lane Thomas
Lane Thomas Quiet start to 2026
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 9:19 AM
Thomas is 3-for-23 (.130 average) with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, a stolen base and a 5:7 BB:K through 12 games this season.
Analysis: Brought in on a one-year, $5.25 million deal in the offseason, Thomas has started just six of the Royals' first 16 games, with four of those six starts coming against left-handed pitching. Thomas is at least taking his walks, but manager Matt Quatraro seems to prefer an outfield configuration of Isaac Collins, Kyle Isbel and Jac Caglianone from left to right, and he's also mixing in Michael Massey in left field on occasion. For now, it appears Thomas will be stuck in a short-side platoon role for Kansas City.
Jonathan India
Jonathan India Not in Sunday's lineup
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 12:54 PM
India is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.
Analysis: India has a .184/.340/.342 slash line through 47 plate appearances this year and finds himself on the bench Sunday for the second time in Kansas City's past three games. Michael Massey is picking up another start at the keystone in the series finale versus Chicago.
