Salvador Perez
Salvador Perez Receiving rare night off
Mon, Jun 1, 2026, 2:46 PM
Perez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
Analysis: Perez will head to the bench for just the third time all season, breaking a streak of 18 consecutive starts for the 35-year-old backstop. The night off comes while Perez has fallen into another offensive lull. Over his last five starts, Perez went 2-for-18 with a 1:4 BB:K to bring his OPS down to a career-low .615 on the season.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Blasts fourth homer in loss
Sun, May 31, 2026, 6:20 PM
Massey went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Massey did his part as the Royals attempted to mount a comeback, drilling a two-run homer in the eighth inning, though no further scoring followed as the club was ultimately swept in the weekend series. The 28-year-old has received regular opportunities at the keystone against right-handed pitching since Jonathan India (shoulder) was lost for the season, but he has struggled to make a consistent impact. Across 120 plate appearances in 2026, Massey is hitting .234 with a .684 OPS, four homers, 15 RBI, 13 runs and a stolen base.
Michael Wacha
Michael Wacha Ambushed early in third loss
Sun, May 31, 2026, 6:05 PM
Wacha (4-3) took the loss Sunday against the Rangers, allowing six runs on eight hits and four walks across five innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: Wacha got into trouble early, surrendering three extra-base hits that contributed to a four-run first inning for the Rangers. After permitting another pair of runs in the fourth frame, the right-hander tied a season high with six runs allowed. Despite the poor showing Sunday, the veteran's numbers on the season remain strong with a 3.23 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 65:26 K:BB across 75.1 innings (12 starts). His next outing is tentatively scheduled for Friday against the Twins.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Set to be evaluated Monday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 5:23 PM
Garcia (hamstring) will be re-evaluated Monday, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Garcia suffered a right hamstring strain in Saturday's loss to the Rangers, and he was unavailable for Sunday's contest as a result. Manager Matt Quatraro provided an update Sunday, outing that the 26-year-old is "feeling better" and that the team is "not going to IL him right now." Garcia is expected to do some testing of his hamstring Monday, and Kansas City will see what direction it wants to go from there.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia No decision yet on IL stint
Sun, May 31, 2026, 1:36 PM
Garcia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, but the Royals are still awaiting the test results on the right hamstring injury he suffered in Saturday's 7-6 loss before determining if he'll require a stint on the 10-day injured list, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Garcia sustained the injury in the seventh inning of Saturday's contest while running the bases and was immediately lifted from the contest. At this stage, the 26-year-old appears more likely than not to wind up on the IL, but the Royals are holding out hope that Garcia is dealing with a low-grade strain that may cause him to miss just a few games rather than the full 10 days. The team should have more clarity on his status prior to Monday's series opener in Cincinnati.
Nick Loftin
Nick Loftin Poised to take over at 3B
Sun, May 31, 2026, 1:32 PM
Loftin will start at third base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Though the Royals haven't yet deactivated Maikel Garcia while they await the results of the test performed on the hamstring injury that forced him out of Saturday's 7-6 loss, he appears to be trending toward a stint on the injured list. If that's the case, Loftin will likely stand to be the primary beneficiary from a playing-time standpoint. Loftin has walked (eight times) nearly as often as he's struck out (nine times) this season, but he's a .219 career hitter in the big leagues and has recorded just five home runs and four stolen bases over 168 games with Kansas City across the past four seasons.
Eric Cerantola
Eric Cerantola Returns to Omaha
Sun, May 31, 2026, 1:16 PM
The Royals optioned Cerantola to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.
Analysis: Cerantola was called up by Kansas City on Friday and will return to Omaha after allowing a run over one inning during his lone appearance. The 26-year-old is now back at Triple-A, where he's posted a 1.37 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB across 19.2 frames this year.
Matt Strahm
Matt Strahm Returns from IL
Sun, May 31, 2026, 1:14 PM
The Royals reinstated Strahm (knee) from the 15-day injured list Sunday.
Analysis: The left-hander has been sidelined the past couple weeks due to knee inflammation, but he received an injection to address the injury and is now ready to rejoin the active roster. Strahm has a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB across 16.1 innings while recording eight holds through 17 appearances this year.
Isaac Collins
Isaac Collins Tallies two hits in Saturday's loss
Sun, May 31, 2026, 11:06 AM
Collins went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk in Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Collins was one of three Royals to tally multiple hits, most notably leading off the club's four-run seventh inning with a ground-rule double. While he didn't drive in a run, it was a much-needed and encouraging performance for the left fielder, who entered the contest just 6-for-47 (.128) across his previous 15 games. Overall, Collins is hitting .221 with a .662 OPS, three homers, 16 RBI, 20 runs and three stolen bases across 50 games in his first season with Kansas City.
Vinnie Pasquantino
Vinnie Pasquantino Reaches base four times Saturday
Sun, May 31, 2026, 10:53 AM
Pasquantino went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two walks in Saturday's loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Pasquantino reached base in four of his five plate appearances, most notably lacing an RBI double in the seventh inning. Saturday was the first baseman's 11th multi-hit effort of the season and second in as many days, while he also drew multiple walks for the fifth time this year. While 2026 has been disappointing overall for Pasquantino, he has been more productive of late, slashing .333/.455/.444 with three doubles, three RBI, three runs and a stolen base over the past eight games.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Exits with injury
Sat, May 30, 2026, 5:15 PM
Garcia was removed from Saturday's game against the Rangers with a right hamstring strain, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Garcia injured himself while running from first to third in the seventh inning and was immediately replaced on the basepaths. The severity of his injury is unknown, though there's a strong chance that he will require a trip to the injured list, which would leave Nick Loftin as the next man up to start at third base for Kansas City.
Luinder Avila
Luinder Avila Starting Monday
Sat, May 30, 2026, 3:01 PM
Manager Matt Quatraro said Saturday that Avila will join the Royals' rotation and start Monday's game against the Reds, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: With Cole Ragans (elbow) set to spend more time on the injured list than the Royals originally expected following a setback, Kansas City will turn to Avila to temporarily fill the fifth spot in the rotation. The 24-year-old righty struggled to find his footing in the majors early in the season but has settled in as of late, posting a 3.14 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across 14.1 frames since the beginning of May. He likely won't be able to handle a full starter's workload Monday after throwing just 67 pitches over three frames during his last outing, and he'll also be tasked with taking on a Reds lineup that's posted a .742 OPS across its last 10 games.
Stephen Kolek
Stephen Kolek Tagged with loss Friday
Sat, May 30, 2026, 7:00 AM
Kolek (3-1) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Rangers after allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: Kolek tossed 60 of his 91 pitches for strikes, but he gave up four runs, including a two-run homer to Brandon Nimmo, before the end of the first inning. He settled down afterwards, but Kolek didn't receive support from an offense that mustered just one run throughout the game. Despite this subpar outing, Kolek remains a capable-if-not-dominant arm in the Royals' rotation with a 3.48 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in five starts so far. He's slated to make his next start on the road against the Reds.
Nick Mears
Nick Mears Placed on injured list
Fri, May 29, 2026, 3:03 PM
The Royals placed Mears on the 15-day injured list Friday with a right shoulder impingement.
Analysis: Mears was tagged for three runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout across two-thirds of an inning in Wednesday's 7-0 loss to the Yankees and will now miss at least the next couple weeks. On the season, he owns a 5.12 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB across 19.1 innings.
Eric Cerantola
Eric Cerantola Recalled to Kansas City
Fri, May 29, 2026, 3:03 PM
The Royals recalled Cerantola from Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
Analysis: Cerantola will rejoin the Royals in Texas after recording two appearances with Kansas City on May 6 and 7. With Triple-A Omaha this year, the 26-year-old has posted a 1.37 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB in 18 appearances. Nick Mears (shoulder) will be placed on the 15-day IL to make room for Cerantola on the active roster.
Matt Strahm
Matt Strahm On track to return Sunday
Thu, May 28, 2026, 12:00 PM
Strahm (knee) threw live batting practice Wednesday and is slated to throw a bullpen session Friday, putting him on track to be activated from the injured list when eligible Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Strahm landed on the injured list May 16 but appears to be recovering well after receiving an injection May 21 to address inflammation in his right knee. Manager Matt Quatraro said the southpaw looked great during a live batting practice session Wednesday, so barring any setbacks during his upcoming bullpen session, Strahm appears likely to be activated from the injured list when first eligible Sunday. Prior to being shelved, he posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB across 16.1 innings.
Kris Bubic
Kris Bubic Battling general arm fatigue
Thu, May 28, 2026, 11:57 AM
Bubic (elbow) is still dealing with general left arm fatigue, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Bubic began a throwing program this past weekend and continues to play catch despite not yet feeling 100 percent. The southpaw will not be allowed to ramp things up until he's no longer feeling fatigue in his pitching arm, so there remains no timetable for Bubic's return to the Royals' rotation. He posted a 4.11 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB across 50.1 innings before landing on the 15-day injured list with left elbow discomfort in mid-May.
Carlos Estevez
Carlos Estevez Resumes throwing Wednesday
Thu, May 28, 2026, 11:45 AM
Estevez (shoulder) began playing catch Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: While on a rehab assignment for a left foot contusion, Estevez was diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain May 6 and subsequently shut down from throwing. The right-hander met with team doctors Tuesday for a re-evaluation and seemingly received positive news, as he has now resumed throwing. The development marks a step in the right direction, though Kansas City will likely proceed cautiously with the veteran's buildup, and he'll almost certainly require another rehab assignment, leaving his timetable for a return unclear. With Estevez sidelined, Lucas Erceg has stepped in as the Royals' closer and posted a 5.06 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 18:13 K:BB while converting 11 of 15 save opportunities across 21.1 innings.
Noah Cameron
Noah Cameron Gets no help in loss
Wed, May 27, 2026, 11:22 PM
Cameron (2-4) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four over five-plus innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Yankees.
Analysis: Cameron put in a fine effort but didn't get any help from his teammates. This was his fifth straight outing without a win, a span in which he's allowed 13 runs (12 earned) across 26.1 innings. That's right in line with his work for the year -- he's at a 4.61 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 48:17 K:BB through 52.2 innings over 10 starts. Cameron's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Reds.
Kyle Isbel
Kyle Isbel Rare day off versus righty
Wed, May 27, 2026, 3:54 PM
Isbel is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: The Royals often hold the left-handed-hitting Isbel out of the lineup against southpaws, but he'll take a seat against right-hander Gerrit Cole in the series finale. Lane Thomas will replace Isbel in center field and will bat sixth.
