Salvador Perez
Salvador Perez Inks two-year extension
Tue, Nov 4, 2025, 7:11 PM
Perez signed a two-year, $25 million contract extension with the Royals on Tuesday.
Analysis: Perez had a $13.5 million team option for 2026, but his new deal will slightly decrease his AAV while ensuring the veteran backstop remains in Kansas City through 2027. Perez's .236 batting average from 2025 was the second-lowest mark of his 15-year MLB career, but he also finished the season with 30 homers for the first time since 2021 and 100 RBI for the third time in five years.
Kyle Wright
Kyle Wright Placed on outright waivers
Tue, Nov 4, 2025, 2:54 PM
The Royals placed Wright on outright waivers Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Wright didn't pitch at all in 2024 and made only eight rehab starts in 2025 due to right shoulder surgery and more recently an oblique strain. He's considered healthy now, but Wright's velocity was down and he posted a 5.48 ERA in his 23 innings between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha this season. The former 20-game winner turned 30 last month and might have to settle for a minor-league contract this offseason.
James McArthur
James McArthur Begins throwing program
Mon, Nov 3, 2025, 4:27 PM
McArthur (elbow) has begun a throwing program, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: McArthur missed the entire 2025 season following surgery last offseason to address an olecranon fracture in his right elbow. He required a follow-up procedure in July to remove one of the two screws inserted into the elbow and only just recently was cleared to throw again. McArthur is scheduled for a follow-up appointment in mid-November to make sure his elbow is healing as expected.
Kris Bubic
Kris Bubic Cleared to begin throwing
Mon, Nov 3, 2025, 4:24 PM
Bubic (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a throwing program in November, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Bubic missed nearly all of the second half after being diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain, but he avoided surgery and is ready to resume throwing. While the left-hander currently appears on track for a normal offseason, the nature of the injury points to Bubic being a risky health proposition. The 28-year-old was having a breakout season before getting hurt, putting up a 2.55 ERA and 116:39 K:BB over 116.1 innings covering 20 starts.
Lucas Erceg
Lucas Erceg Aims for clearance to throw
Mon, Nov 3, 2025, 4:12 PM
Erceg (shoulder) will undergo imaging Monday in hopes of being cleared to begin a throwing program, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Erceg landed on the 15-day injured list in mid-September due to a right shoulder impingement. As long as scans Monday come back clean, the reliever should have a normal offseason. Erceg notched two saves and 22 holds for the Royals in 2025 and is slated to enter the 2026 campaign in a setup role.
Ryan Bergert
Ryan Bergert Cleared for throwing
Mon, Nov 3, 2025, 4:07 PM
Berger (elbow) was cleared in November to begin a throwing program, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Bergert missed the last couple weeks of the regular season with a right elbow strain, but he's fully recovered and will enter spring training without limitations, barring any setbacks. The 25-year-old posted a 3.66 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 73:35 K:BB across 76.1 innings in 2025 between the Padres and Royals and will have a chance to open the 2026 campaign in the major-league rotation.
Alec Marsh
Alec Marsh Had labral surgery in October
Mon, Nov 3, 2025, 4:04 PM
Marsh underwent surgery in October to repair a labral tear in his right shoulder, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Marsh missed the entire 2025 season with shoulder issues and it was concluded last month that surgery was required. He is expected to need around a year to recover, so the right-hander is unlikely to be ready to pitch in a big-league game again until 2027. Marsh posted a 4.53 ERA and 123:39 K:BB over 129 innings for Kansas City in 2024.
Daniel Lynch IV
Daniel Lynch IV Earns sixth win
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 8:49 AM
Lynch (6-2) earned the win Sunday against the Athletics. He struck out three over 2.1 perfect innings.
Analysis: Lynch closed the regular season in dominant fashion, retiring all seven batters he faced with a trio of punchouts. His 4.76 FIP is worth noting, but the southpaw turned in solid surface numbers in 2025, recording a 3.06 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 57 appearances and 67.2 innings. The Royals didn't lean on him consistently in high-leverage situations, but he generally delivered when used and often provided more than just a single inning, as he did Sunday.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Tallies four hits
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 8:41 AM
Massey went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-2 victory over the Athletics.
Analysis: Massey capped the regular season swinging well, tying his season high with four hits -- his second four-hit effort in the past five games. Even with that strong finish, it's been a rough year for the utility man, who battled multiple injuries and struggled when on the field, slashing .244/.268/.313 with nine doubles, three homers and 20 RBI across 77 games.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Finishes breakout year
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 8:36 AM
Garcia went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, a run scored and a walk in Sunday's win over the Athletics.
Analysis: Garcia wasted no time, ripping a leadoff double on the first pitch of the game before adding a sacrifice fly in the second inning and an RBI single in the fourth. The strong regular-season finale lifted his 2025 OPS to an even .800 with 39 doubles, five triples, 16 homers, 74 RBI and 23 stolen bases across 160 games, cementing a breakout year after he posted just a .613 OPS in 157 games last season.
Mike Yastrzemski
Mike Yastrzemski Blasts two homers in win
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 6:59 AM
Yastrzemski went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs, a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 9-2 victory over the Athletics.
Analysis: The veteran outfielder broke out of his home run drought in emphatic fashion, launching a deep shot to right field off Michael Kelly in the seventh inning before adding another solo blast to right against Osvaldo Bido an inning later. Earlier in the game, Yastrzemski also swiped his seventh base of the season after a third-inning walk. The pair of long balls pushed his season total to 17, with nine of those coming since joining the Royals at the trade deadline. Yastrzemski hadn't gone deep in his previous 24 games, a stretch in which he hit just .176 with a .549 OPS and three RBI, making Sunday's performance a strong way to finish the regular season.
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Ends season on high note
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 6:46 AM
Ragans didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Athletics, allowing two hits and one walk over 4.1 scoreless innings. He struck out eight.
Analysis: The left-hander was electric despite the short outing, piling up 17 swinging strikes on 72 pitches while leaning heavily on his fastball. He put together a particularly dominant stretch during which he struck out six of eight batters faced. Since returning from the injured list, Ragans has been exactly what the Royals hoped for, looking sharp across three outings. Over that span, he's delivered a 2.77 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and a 22:4 K:BB across 13 innings, showing not only that his strikeout ability remains intact but also that there are no lingering concerns about his durability or effectiveness heading into the offseason.
Jac Caglianone
Jac Caglianone Idle for season finale
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 12:28 PM
Caglianone is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
Analysis: The Royals will withhold Caglianone from the lineup for the second straight day to close out the regular season, with John Rave getting another start in the outfield. Though the 22-year-old Caglianone is still viewed as a major part of the Royals' long-term future, he's had a tough go in his first taste of the big leagues, slashing just .158/.238/.297 in 231 plate appearances since being promoted from Triple-A Omaha in June.
Jac Caglianone
Jac Caglianone Not starting Saturday
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 6:22 PM
Caglianone isn't in the Royals' lineup for Saturday's game versus the Athletics.
Analysis: The Royals will keep Caglianone in the dugout Saturday following an 0-for-8 stretch at the plate across his last three games. His absence will allow John Rave to start in center field and bat ninth.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey On bench Friday
Fri, Sep 26, 2025, 5:00 PM
Massey is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.
Analysis: Massey will start Friday's game on the bench despite going against a right-hander (Mason Barnett). Jonathan India will step in at second base and bat seventh.
Tyler Tolbert
Tyler Tolbert Swipes two bags
Wed, Sep 24, 2025, 9:09 AM
Tolbert went 1-for-3 with two steals in Tuesday's 8-4 victory over the Angels.
Analysis: Tolbert started in center field Tuesday and showcased his speed with two stolen bases, giving him 20 on the season. His playing time has been sporadic, but he's held his own when given an opportunity, as evidenced by a .292/.333/.396 slash line across 55 plate appearances in 60 games. The 27-year-old has been productive in September, going 6-for-12 with a double, an RBI and three stolen bases.
Adam Frazier
Adam Frazier Notches 20th double
Wed, Sep 24, 2025, 9:00 AM
Frazier went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Angels.
Analysis: Frazier stretched the Royals' lead with a two-run double in the seventh inning, though he was cut down trying to stretch it into a triple. The light-hitting second baseman owns just a .683 OPS through 129 games, but Tuesday's double was his 20th of the year -- his seventh season with 20 or more. The 33-year-old has been steady at the plate lately, collecting hits in seven of his past eight contests.
Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. Drives in pair
Wed, Sep 24, 2025, 7:23 AM
Witt went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 8-4 victory over the Angels.
Analysis: Witt contributed to the hit parade with two hits base knocks, including a two-run double in the eighth inning that put the Royals' lead out of reach. The shortstop has finished the regular season strong, posting a 1.007 OPS with six extra-base hits and six RBI over his past eight games. While his 2025 numbers don't quite match his monster 2024 campaign (.977 OPS with 30 homers and 30 steals), he's still delivered an impressive .853 OPS with 44 doubles, six triples, 23 homers, 84 RBI and 37 stolen bases across 152 games.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Trio of hits in win
Wed, Sep 24, 2025, 7:14 AM
Garcia went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, three runs scored and a walk in Tuesday's win over the Angels.
Analysis: Garcia set the tone with a leadoff double in the first inning and later came around to score on a wild pitch, sparking what became his first three-hit performance since Aug. 10. While he's had a quieter September with a .620 OPS over 20 games, the third baseman's 2025 campaign as a whole has been a breakout. Through 155 contests, he owns an .809 OPS with 38 doubles, five triples, 16 homers, 72 RBI and 23 stolen bases, ranking second among Royals regulars in OPS behind only Bobby Witt.
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Punches out 10 in win
Wed, Sep 24, 2025, 6:51 AM
Ragans (3-3) earned the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk over five innings against the Angels. He struck out 10.
Analysis: Ragans worked four scoreless frames before surrendering a two-run homer to Bryce Teodosio in his fifth and final inning of Tuesday's start. It was an impressive showing for the southpaw in just his second outing back from a left rotator cuff strain that kept him sidelined for more than three months. The 27-year-old has had a tough-luck season with a 5.02 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 12 starts and 57.1 innings, surface numbers that hide a much stronger 2.69 FIP. He's currently lined up for one more regular-season start Sunday against the Athletics, though that has not yet been confirmed.
