Bobby Witt Jr. Diagnosed with Grade 1 MCL sprain
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 3:37 PM
Witt has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 MCL sprain in his right knee following an MRI, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Witt had to exit Thursday's game versus the Cardinals when his knee twisted awkwardly on a sliding stop at shortstop, and he is not in the lineup Friday. Royals manager Matt Quatraro referred to the diagnosis as a "best-case scenario," adding that the club will see how Witt is feeling Sunday following the team off day Saturday before determining next steps. That suggests Witt has a chance to avoid the 10-day injured list.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia On bench again Friday
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:57 PM
Garcia (hand) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: It's the third straight game on the bench for Garcia as he continues to manage soreness in his left hand. The 26-year-old departed Tuesday's matchup with the Nationals due to the injury, but it's actually a nagging issue that he's been dealing with throughout the past month. Nick Loftin is picking up another start at third base Friday.

Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:54 PM
WItt (knee) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Witt departed Thursday's game against the Cardinals with an apparent knee issue after his right leg twisted under him on a sliding attempt at shortstop, and he'll sit for at least one game. A rare team day off Saturday will provide the All-Star shortstop two straight days of rest heading into Sunday's series finale.
Mason Black
Mason Black Returns to Triple-A
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 1:45 PM
The Royals optioned Black to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
Analysis: The right-hander was called up by the Royals in late May and will return to Omaha after giving up seven runs with a 10:9 K:BB over 13 innings during this stint in the majors. Black's demotion clears roster space for Seth Lugo (concussion), who is starting Friday's game against the Cardinals.
Seth Lugo
Seth Lugo Reinstated for Friday's start
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 1:35 PM
The Rangers reinstated Lugo (concussion) from the 7-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Nationals.
Analysis: The 36-year-old has been on the shelf for the past week after being struck in the head by a comebacker, but he'll quickly re-enter Kansas City's rotation. Lugo has a 3.86 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 66:25 K:BB across 79.1 innings through 14 starts this season.
Nick Loftin
Nick Loftin Deposits two doubles in win
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 12:17 PM
Loftin went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in Thursday's 14-6 win over St. Louis.
Analysis: With Maikel Garcia nursing a hand injury, Loftin got the start at the hot corner and ripped a pair of doubles that both left the bat at over 100 mph. His two-bagger in the fourth inning plated a pair of runs. The 27-year-old has been a hit machine of late, logging multiple hits in three of the past four games. On the year, the utility man is hitting .245/.348/.400 with 14 extra-base hits (one homer), 20 RBI and 14 runs scored across 133 plate appearances. Should Garcia continue to be held out or ultimately require a stint on the injured list, Loftin stands to step in at third base.
Starling Marte
Starling Marte Logs three hits in win
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 12:06 PM
Marte went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 14-6 win over St. Louis.
Analysis: With left-hander Matthew Liberatore getting the start for St. Louis, Marte was in the lineup in right field and made the most of the opportunity, logging his second three-hit effort of the campaign. It was highlighted by an RBI double down the right-field line to cap off a six-run second inning for Kansas City. Across 91 plate appearances this season, the veteran outfielder is hitting .277/.330/.361 with a homer, four doubles, six RBI and eight runs scored.

Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 12:01 PM
Caglianone went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 14-6 win over St. Louis.
Analysis: Caglianone extended Kansas City's lead in the fourth inning with a line-drive homer to the opposite field. The 23-year-old has seen more action at first base of late with Vinnie Pasquantino (hand) sidelined, and Caglianone is raking in June, batting .356 with four homers over 16 games. This surge has elevated his season slash line to .266/.338/.439 with nine homers, 22 RBI, 30 runs and three stolen bases across 70 contests.

Analysis: Collins played a role in a six-run second inning for the Royals with an RBI double. His steal of second base in the seventh inning marked the left fielder's first theft since May 17 and fourth of the campaign. Overall, Collins is slashing .221/.336/.308 with three homers, nine doubles, 21 RBI and 27 runs across 67 games.
Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. Exits early with knee issue
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 8:10 PM
Witt (knee) exited Thursday's contest against the Cardinals in the fourth inning, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Witt torqued his right knee/leg while attempting to make a sliding stop at shortstop in the top of the fourth inning, and he ultimately exited the game before his next at-bat in the bottom of the frame. Witt will finish his night having gone 2-for-2 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Tolbert has replaced him in the lineup, batting second versus St. Louis.
Shelved at Double-A
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 4:05 PM
Double-A Northwest Arkansas transferred Lamkin from the 7-day injured list to the 60-day IL on June 10 while he recovers from an unspecified injury.
Analysis: As a result of the transaction, Lamkin will remain out through at least the All-Star break. The 22-year-old lefty had been climbing up prospect lists after a hot start to the season, compiling a 2.04 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 53:14 K:BB in 39.2 innings over eight starts between Northwest Arkansas and High-A Quad Cities before being deactivated in late May.
Maikel Garcia
Maikel Garcia Remains out of lineup
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 2:37 PM
Garcia (hand) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Cardinals.
Analysis: Garcia will miss a second straight start due to left hand soreness. The injury forced Garcia from Tuesday's game against the Nationals, but it's something he's dealt with off-and-on for the past month. Consider him day-to-day. Nick Loftin will get another start at third base in Garcia's stead.
Nick Mears
Nick Mears Completes bullpen session
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 11:52 AM
Mears (shoulder) threw a bullpen Tuesday and could go on a rehab assignment soon, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Mears was placed on the injured list May 29 due to a right shoulder impingement and appears to be progressing nicely in his rehab. With a rehab assignment on the horizon, the right-hander should be back in the big-league bullpen fairly soon, assuming no setbacks. Before being shelved, Mears posted a 5.12 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB across 19.1 innings.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Clubs seventh homer in win
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 11:39 AM
Massey went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Nationals.
Analysis: Massey launched a 430-foot solo shot to straightaway center field in the third inning, marking the fourth Royals homer of the game. The second baseman has enjoyed a productive June, hitting .320 with three homers, three doubles, nine RBI and seven runs scored across 14 appearances, though he has yet to draw a walk this month. Overall, the 28-year-old is slashing .261/.278/.466 with seven homers, 12 doubles, 24 RBI, 20 runs and a stolen base through 57 contests.
Lane Thomas
Lane Thomas Goes deep again Wednesday
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 11:31 AM
Thomas went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's win over the Nationals.
Analysis: Thomas was one of four Royals to go deep, blasting an elevated fastball from Zack Littell over the wall in left-center field for a solo shot in the third inning. It marked Thomas' second homer in as many games and his third over the past five contests. The outfielder is slashing .267/.389/.556 with four homers, eight RBI and nine runs scored through 15 appearances in June. He started in center field Wednesday and has seen regular looks there and in right field of late, with Kyle Isbel (foot) hurt and Jac Caglianone shifting to first base in the absence of Vinnie Pasquantino (hand).
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Sent to 60-day IL
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 6:51 PM
The Royals transferred Ragans (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: On the 15-day IL since May 8 due to an elbow impingement, Ragans' experienced a setback Friday that will sideline him until at least the second week of July. Before going down with the elbow issue, the left-hander posted a 4.84 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 45:23 K:BB across 35.1 innings.

Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 5:26 PM
The Mariners traded Dobnak to Kansas City on Wednesday, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Analysis: Dobnak spent his 2026 season with Seattle's Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma before being dealt to the Royals. With Tacoma, the 31-year-old posted a 4.24 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 39:24 K:BB across 70 innings. Dobnak will join Kansas City's 40-man roster and report to Triple-A Omaha.
John Rave
John Rave Pops first homer in Wednesday's win
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 5:22 PM
Rave went 2-for-4 with a triple, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Nationals.
Analysis: The second-inning long ball off Zack Littell was Rave's first of the season in the majors, while the three-bagger was his first in the majors in his 74th career game. Rave got the called up over the weekend to supply outfield depth while Kyle Isbel (foot) and Vinnie Pasquantino (hand) are on the shelf, but performances like this could earn the 28-year-old more playing time against right-handed pitching. Through 60 games with Triple-A Omaha prior to his promotion, Rave was slashing .278/.395/.475 with 10 homers and 16 steals.
Carter Jensen
Carter Jensen Huge day in Wednesday's win
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 5:18 PM
Jensen went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Nationals.
Analysis: The 22-year-old backstop set the tone for the afternoon when he drove the fourth pitch he saw from Zack Littell over the fence in the right-field corner, the first of four long balls by Kansas City. It was the first four-hit performance of Jensen's career, and it extended his current hit streak to nine games, a stretch in which he's batting .361 (13-for-36) with five doubles, two homers, seven runs and nine RBI. Wednesday's steal was also his first in the majors in his 88th game, but Jensen's flashed some base-stealing acumen in the minors, going 10-for-11 on steal attempts over 103 games last season and 17-for-20 over 124 games in 2024.
Luinder Avila
Luinder Avila Bounces back for second win
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 5:13 PM
Avila (2-3) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over 5.2 innings in a 6-2 victory over the Nationals. He struck out five.
Analysis: The right-hander got chased in the first inning by the Astros in his last trip to the mound, but Avila shook off that disaster and came one out shy of recording his first career quality start, tossing 59 of 91 pitches for strikes before being lifted when he ran into trouble in the sixth. Since moving into the rotation at the beginning of June, Avila has posted a 6.06 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 13:11 K:BB in 16.1 innings over four starts. He'll look to build on Wednesday's performance in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Tampa Bay.
