Goes in second round
Sat, Jul 11, 2026, 3:57 PM
The Royals selected Slightom with the No. 56 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Analysis: A prep righty from Illinois, Slightom has a very projectable 6-foot-5, 215-pound frame. He played a lot of quarterback in high school and can already touch 98 mph. Slightom shows aptitude for a slider and changeup and is a nice developmental ball of clay for Kansas City.
Lands with Royals at pick No. 30
Sat, Jul 11, 2026, 3:01 PM
The Royals selected Rabe with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Analysis: A 6-foot-5 right-hander out of Mississippi, Rabe emerged as one of the hottest college arms in 2026 after not pitching much last year in his return from Tommy John surgery. Now healthy, Rabe can dial up his fastball as high as 100 mph, while his cutter and slider have also shown promise. He repeats his delivery and struck out seven batters for every one he walked this spring.
Vinnie Pasquantino
Vinnie Pasquantino Back in action Saturday
Sat, Jul 11, 2026, 2:27 PM
Pasquantino (hand) will start at first base and bat fifth Saturday against the Orioles.
Analysis: Pasquantino was activated from the injured list Friday after spending nearly a month on the shelf with a hamate fracture, but Saturday will mark his return to the starting nine. The 28-year-old was slashing .298/.365/.426 across his last 12 games before getting injured, and he went 4-for-11 with three walks, an RBI and a run during his three-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha.
Snagged with sixth pick
Sat, Jul 11, 2026, 1:09 PM
The Royals selected Rose with the sixth overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Analysis: Rose is a catcher turned outfielder who excelled in three years at Louisville. He walked more than he struck out as a freshman and junior and he had his best power season (13 homers, .242 ISO) as a sophomore. Rose has untapped potential if he can embrace an air-pull approach in pro ball, as he hits too many balls into the ground while making contact with too many pitches out of the zone. Despite measuring in at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, he is a plus runner and stole 55 bases in 102 games the past two seasons. He was announced as a center fielder, although left field may be a better fit in time.
Jac Caglianone
Jac Caglianone Cracks 15th homer of 2026
Fri, Jul 10, 2026, 8:45 PM
Caglianone went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Friday's 5-3 loss to Baltimore.
Analysis: Caglianone put the Royals on the board in the fourth inning with a solo homer off Brandon Young. It was the 15th long ball of the season for Caglianone and his first since June 23 against the Rays, when he smacked two homers. The 23-year-old outfielder has gone 7-for-31 with four extra-base hits, five RBI and four runs scored over his last seven games and a .789 OPS across 341 plate appearances this season.
Luinder Avila
Luinder Avila Yields three runs in no-decision
Fri, Jul 10, 2026, 8:40 PM
Avila did not factor into the decision Friday against Baltimore, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three across five innings.
Analysis: Avila put the Royals in an early deficit by giving up two runs in the second inning before putting his team behind 3-2 on a solo home run from Blaze Alexander in the fourth. Avila ended his start with 57 strikes on 96 pitches while generating nine whiffs and nine groundouts, and he was in line to take the loss before teammate Isaac Collins tied the game at 3-3 with a solo homer in the eighth. Avila has allowed three earned runs or less in four of his last five starts and enters the All-Star break with a 5.08 ERA and 1.62 WHIP across 56.2 innings, although those numbers are inflated by his June 12 outing against the Astros, when he recorded just two outs while allowing eight runs.
Vinnie Pasquantino
Vinnie Pasquantino Not in lineup Friday
Fri, Jul 10, 2026, 2:17 PM
Pasquantino (hand) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles.
Analysis: Despite being activated from the 10-day injured list earlier in the day, Pasquantino will not be in the starting nine against Baltimore for Friday's series opener. Instead, Salvador Perez will man first base and bat sixth with Nick Loftin hitting eighth and handling DH duties.
Lane Thomas
Lane Thomas Goes yard in Thursday's loss
Fri, Jul 10, 2026, 12:08 PM
Thomas went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Mets.
Analysis: Thomas led off the contest by launching a solo homer to left field off Sean Manaea, his seventh long ball of the campaign. The 30-year-old outfielder has been locked in at the plate of late, slashing .385/.467/.846 with two homers, six doubles, seven RBI and six runs scored during a seven-game hitting streak. With Kyle Isbel (foot) slowed in his rehab, Thomas should continue to see regular playing time in center field while hitting near the top of the Royals' lineup.
Kameron Misner
Kameron Misner Optioned to Triple-A
Fri, Jul 10, 2026, 11:32 AM
The Royals optioned Misner to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
Analysis: Misner is the odd man out on the 26-man roster with Vinnie Pasquantino (hand) back from the injured list Friday. Misner has appeared in 18 games for the Royals this season, slashing .220/.256/.244 with one double, four RBI, two runs scored, three stolen bases and a 2:17 BB:K across 44 trips to the dish.
Jose Cuas
Jose Cuas Sent back to Omaha
Fri, Jul 10, 2026, 11:30 AM
The Royals optioned Cuas to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
Analysis: Cuas was recalled at the beginning of the month and appeared in five games out of the bullpen for Kansas City, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks with nine strikeouts across 6.1 innings. With Cuas headed back to Omaha, the Royals recalled Eli Morgan in a corresponding move.
Eli Morgan
Eli Morgan Recalled from Triple-A
Fri, Jul 10, 2026, 11:28 AM
The Royals recalled Morgan from Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
Analysis: Morgan has pitched in 14 games out of the bullpen for Kansas City this season, registering a 5.19 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB across 17.1 innings. He'll swap places with Jose Cuas, who was optioned to Omaha in a corresponding move.
Vinnie Pasquantino
Vinnie Pasquantino Activated from IL
Fri, Jul 10, 2026, 11:24 AM
The Royals activated Pasquantino (hand) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Analysis: Pasquantino suffered a broken right hamate bone last month and missed just 23 games with the injury. He's returning in just under four weeks, beating the typical recovery timeline significantly as Pasquantino was initially expected to be sidelined through the All-Star break. He appeared in three games with Triple-A Omaha on a rehab assignment, going 4-for-11 with three walks. At the time of his injury, Pasquantino had slashed an impressive .309/.397/.436 over his previous 14 games. He'll look to recapture that form during a weekend series against the Orioles.
Michael Wacha
Michael Wacha Allows six runs in loss
Thu, Jul 9, 2026, 2:57 PM
Wacha (5-7) took the loss Thursday against the Mets, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: Wacha held the Mets to one run through his first four innings, but he'd unravel in the fifth, when New York would score five runs, including three with two outs. Wacha's performances have been up and down of late -- he's gone 1-5 with a 5.33 ERA in his last eight outings (49 innings). The right-hander figures to head into the All-Star break with a 3.77 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 96:34 K:BB across 19 starts (119.1 innings) this season.
Vinnie Pasquantino
Vinnie Pasquantino Could return Friday
Thu, Jul 9, 2026, 10:50 AM
Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Thursday that Pasquantino (hand) could return from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's series opener versus the Orioles, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Pasquantino has been shelved since June 14 after suffering a right hamate fracture, but he's made quick progress in his recovery from surgery and started a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha earlier this week. He's gone 2-for-6 with one RBI and three walks in two games with Omaha, and Pasquantino looks as though he'll have a chance to rejoin Kansas City's lineup for the team's final series before the All-Star break.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Sitting versus southpaw
Thu, Jul 9, 2026, 8:57 AM
Massey is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Mets.
Analysis: With the Mets starting southpaw Sean Manaea, the lefty-swinging Massey will begin Thursday's game on the bench. The hot-hitting Tyler Tolbert will handle second base in Massey's stead.
Carter Jensen
Carter Jensen Taking seat in Thursday's matinee
Thu, Jul 9, 2026, 8:54 AM
Jensen is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Jensen started at catcher each of the last two days, so he'll get some rest during Thursday's matinee as the Mets send southpaw Sean Manaea to the bump. Luke Maile is doing the catching and Salvador Perez will play first base for the Royals.
Randy Dobnak
Randy Dobnak Blanks Mets in no-decision
Wed, Jul 8, 2026, 9:06 PM
Dobnak took a no-decision Wednesday against the Mets, allowing no runs on three hits and three walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: Working in bulk relief, Dobnak kept the New York bats in check with a scoreless outing Wednesday. The 31-year-old right-hander has given up just two runs on nine hits and four walks in 9.2 major-league innings so far this year, and he was able to build up to 95 pitches Wednesday in his second appearance of 2026. Stephen Kolek (personal) figures to be activated from the bereavement list by the time the All-Star break is finished, so Dobnak would be a candidate to revert back to Triple-A Omaha if that happens.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Strong offensive production in win
Wed, Jul 8, 2026, 1:14 PM
Massey went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, four runs scored and two walks in Tuesday's 16-12 win over the Mets.
Analysis: Massey reached base four times and scored on each occasion, setting a career high in runs scored. He has driven in a run in three straight games after putting together a season-best five-game RBI streak from May 31 to June 4. Across 73 games this season, the second baseman is slashing .262/.300/.430 with seven homers, 31 RBI, 29 runs and two stolen bases.
Nick Loftin
Nick Loftin Goes deep in three-hit effort
Wed, Jul 8, 2026, 1:01 PM
Loftin went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, two doubles, an additional run scored and was hit by a pitch in Tuesday's 16-12 win over the Mets.
Analysis: Loftin was locked in at the plate, tallying three extra-base hits, headlined by a two-run homer in the seventh inning. The 27-year-old has recorded three hits in back-to-back games after going 1-for-27 (.037) over his previous nine appearances. Overall, Loftin is slashing .247/.342/.420 with four homers, 29 RBI, 25 runs and a stolen base across 55 contests.
Lane Thomas
Lane Thomas Drives in four runs Tuesday
Wed, Jul 8, 2026, 12:51 PM
Thomas went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI, a run scored and two walks in Tuesday's 16-12 victory over the Mets.
Analysis: Thomas was a driving force in Tuesday's offensive onslaught, belting a pair of doubles that each drove in two runs as part of a three-hit effort. The outfielder is riding a five-game hitting streak and is slashing .355/.429/.645 with a homer, six doubles, seven RBI, six runs and a stolen base over his past eight appearances. Overall, Thomas is hitting .232/.341/.379 with six homers, 13 doubles, 29 RBI, 25 runs and four stolen bases across 77 contests.
