Kris Bubic
Kris Bubic Lands on IL with sore elbow
Mon, May 18, 2026, 2:20 PM
The Royals placed Bubic on the 15-day injured list Monday with left elbow soreness.
Analysis: Per Anne Rogers of MLB.com, Bubic felt more sore than normal following his last start, prompting the decision to place him on the IL. The southpaw is optimistic his absence will be brief, but he still needs to undergo imaging before more is known. Even in a best-case scenario, Bubic is likely looking at longer than a minimum stay no the IL. He's collected a 4.10 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB over 50.1 innings covering nine starts this season.
Eli Morgan
Eli Morgan Moving up to majors
Mon, May 18, 2026, 2:19 PM
The Royals recalled Morgan from Triple-A Omaha on Monday.
Analysis: Morgan will be up with the Royals for his third stint in the majors of the season. Over seven appearances for Kansas City, the righty reliever has yielded three earned runs on eight hits and six walks over 10.1 innings. He's been even more dominant in his 11.1 innings with Omaha, submitting a spotless ERA and 0.63 WHIP while striking out 18 batters.
Isaac Collins
Isaac Collins Registers third steal
Sun, May 17, 2026, 5:49 PM
Collins went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Collins picked up his first steal since May 5 versus the Guardians. He's cooled off significantly at the plate over his last 10 games, going 5-for-33 (.152) with a 5:8 BB:K and three RBI in that span. For the season, the outfielder is hitting .228 with a .685 OPS, three home runs, three steals, 15 RBI, 16 runs scored and five doubles over 153 plate appearances.
Salvador Perez
Salvador Perez Productive in win
Sun, May 17, 2026, 5:47 PM
Perez went 2-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and a second RBI in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Perez drove in the opening run with a first-inning sacrifice fly before adding a bit more oomph to hit a solo shot in the fourth. The catcher has two homers among seven hits over his last six games, a span in which he's batting .292 with four strikeouts. He's back above the Mendoza Line now, batting .205 with a .595 OPS, seven homers, 20 RBI, 17 runs scored and five doubles over 45 contests.
Lucas Erceg
Lucas Erceg Rebounds for 11th save
Sun, May 17, 2026, 5:43 PM
Erceg walked one and struck out none in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Erceg was charged with a blown save Friday, allowing an unearned run on two hits in the 10th inning against the Cardinals. He did better Sunday, throwing 14 of 22 pitches for strikes to pick up his first save since May 5. The right-hander is up to 11-for-14 in save conversions this year while adding one hold. He's pitched to a 3.26 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 17:13 K:BB through 19.1 innings. While he hasn't been dominant, Erceg has done a decent job of holding down the closing job while Carlos Estevez (foot/shoulder) has been out of action.
Stephen Kolek
Stephen Kolek Strong showing in win
Sun, May 17, 2026, 5:39 PM
Kolek (2-0) allowed four hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out three over 6.1 shutout innings to earn the win Sunday over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Kolek delivered his second quality start in three outings this season. He threw 61 of 82 pitches for strikes and never let the Cardinals get into a rhythm. The 29-year-old is now at a 4.24 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB through 17 innings in the majors this season. Cole Ragans (elbow) threw a bullpen session Sunday as he works his way back from an elbow impingement, and he could return over the weekend versus the Mariners if he doesn't require a rehab assignment. If Ragans isn't quite ready, Kolek would likely make one more start.
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Completes bullpen session
Sun, May 17, 2026, 4:15 PM
Ragans (elbow) felt good after throwing a 30-pitch bullpen session Sunday, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: The left-hander landed on the injured list with an elbow impingement after his May 6 start against Cleveland, but he was only briefly shut down from throwing and is now back to mound work. Ragans will be eligible to be reinstated during next weekend's series versus the Mariners, though it remains to be seen if he'll require a rehab assignment before returning from the IL.
Jac Caglianone
Jac Caglianone Taking seat Sunday
Sun, May 17, 2026, 10:35 AM
Caglianone isn't in the Royals' starting lineup Sunday versus St. Louis.
Analysis: Caglianone will begin the game on the bench for the third time in the past five contests despite right-hander Andre Pallante being on the mound for the Cardinals. Caglianone has been fairly productive in May, batting .239 with three homers over 46 at-bats. Lane Thomas is starting in right field for the Royals on Sunday.
Jac Caglianone
Jac Caglianone Goes yard in loss
Sun, May 17, 2026, 2:39 AM
Caglianone went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: With his team trailing by three runs, Caglianone opened the ninth inning with a monstrous 428-foot solo homer to cut into the deficit, though no further rally ensued as the Royals' losing streak stretched to six games. The 23-year-old possesses immense raw power but hasn't consistently translated it into extra-base production early in his big-league career. That said, the numbers in 2026 are a noticeable improvement from the .532 OPS he posted across 62 games in 2025. This season, Caglianone is slashing .246/.318/.425 with five homers, seven doubles, a triple, nine RBI and 18 runs across 42 contests.
Noah Cameron
Noah Cameron Stuck with loss in quality start
Sat, May 16, 2026, 5:48 PM
Cameron (2-3) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on five hits over six innings as the Royals fell 4-2 to the Cardinals. He struck out four without walking a batter.
Analysis: The southpaw needed 82 pitches (55 strikes) to record his second quality start of the season, but a lack of run support landed Cameron in the loss column. After a promising beginning to the campaign the 26-year-old has allowed at least three runs in six straight starts, stumbling to a 6.68 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB over 31 innings, but Saturday's outing was at least the first time since April 7 that he didn't issue multiple walks, and he's kept the ball in the yard in four straight trips to the mound. Cameron will look to build on this performance in his next start, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Mariners.
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Progressing in rehab
Sat, May 16, 2026, 11:59 AM
Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Friday that Ragans (elbow) played catch with more volume and intensity and hopes to progress to mound work soon, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Ragans landed on the 15-day injured list May 8 due to left elbow impingement, but the southpaw has quickly resumed playing catch with generally positive feedback and results. Thompson noted that Ragans threw a few pitches off the mound Friday, though it wasn't a formal bullpen session, and the tentative plan is for one more day of catch before progressing to full mound work. The Royals won't rush the 28-year-old and he still needs to continue checking boxes in rehab, but it appears Ragans could avoid a lengthy stay on the injured list.
Bailey Falter
Bailey Falter Activated from IL
Sat, May 16, 2026, 10:47 AM
The Royals reinstated Falter (elbow) from the injured list Saturday.
Analysis: Falter has been on the injured list since early April with left elbow inflammation, but he's been playing in rehab games at Triple-A Omaha since April 15. The 29-year-old posted a 2.70 ERA and 1.27 WHIP alongside a 19:3 K:BB over 13.1 innings during his month-long rehab assignment. Now fully healthy, he'll replace Matt Strahm (knee) in Kansas City's bullpen and likely take on a middle-relief role.
Matt Strahm
Matt Strahm Placed on injured list
Sat, May 16, 2026, 10:40 AM
The Royals placed Strahm on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right knee inflammation.
Analysis: Strahm's knee began to bother him during his appearance Friday, and although the Royals' training staff allowed him to finish the inning, the team will now send him to the injured list. He'll trade places on the IL with Bailey Falter (elbow), who was activated in a corresponding move.
Michael Wacha
Michael Wacha Posts quality start Friday
Sat, May 16, 2026, 7:54 AM
Wacha didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Cardinals, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while fanning five across six innings.
Analysis: Wacha was unable to repeat what he'd done the last time out, when he tossed seven scoreless innings against the Tigers on May 9, but at least he posted a third consecutive quality start. Wacha owns a 2.25 ERA and 14:4 K:BB across 20 innings in three appearances since the beginning of May, and he'll aim to keep it rolling in his next start against the Red Sox next week.
Steven Cruz
Steven Cruz Tagged with loss in extras
Sat, May 16, 2026, 7:32 AM
Cruz (0-1) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Cardinals after allowing an unearned run on one hit and one walk across two-thirds of an inning.
Analysis: Cruz entered Friday's game to pitch the 11th inning in a 4-4 tie, but he allowed a two-out RBI single to Yohel Pozo, scoring Nathan Church. Cruz has made four appearances since returning to the big-league roster May 8, posting a 6:3 K:BB across 3.2 innings. This unearned run was the lone run he's given up in that span.
Lucas Erceg
Lucas Erceg Blown save Friday
Sat, May 16, 2026, 7:28 AM
Erceg allowed an unearned run on two hits in an inning of work Friday against the Cardinals, striking out two. He was charged with a blown save.
Analysis: Erceg entered the game in the 10th inning with the Royals holding a one-run lead, but he allowed an RBI single to Alec Burleson that scored Thomas Saggese. This was Erceg's third blown save of the season, and he's now allowed runs in his last two outings. Erceg has gone 10-for-13 in save chances this season while posting a 3.44 ERA and 17:12 K:BB across 19 outings (18.1 innings).
Lucas Erceg
Lucas Erceg Allows run in non-save situation
Fri, May 15, 2026, 11:09 AM
Erceg allowed one run on two hits and no walks with a strikeout over one inning in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the White Sox.
Analysis: Erceg, who had not pitched over the previous five days, entered with the Royals trailing in the eighth inning and surrendered an RBI single to Derek Hill to widen the deficit. Thursday's outing snapped a streak of eight consecutive scoreless innings for Erceg, who had also recorded five saves during that stretch. The right-hander owns a 3.63 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB with 10 saves across 17.1 innings and figures to continue operating as Kansas City's closer with Carlos Estevez (foot/shoulder) not close to returning from the injured list.
Luinder Avila
Luinder Avila Fires two scoreless innings
Fri, May 15, 2026, 10:53 AM
Avila allowed no hits and two walks while striking out two over two scoreless innings in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the White Sox.
Analysis: After starter Kris Bubic lasted only four innings, Avila covered a pair of scoreless frames in relief. Avila surrendered runs in four of his first five big-league appearances this season, but the right-hander has now strung together three consecutive scoreless outings. Overall, he owns a 5.28 ERA and 1.83 WHIP with an elevated 5.3 BB/9 across 15.1 innings.
Kris Bubic
Kris Bubic Struggles in loss Thursday
Thu, May 14, 2026, 10:51 PM
Bubic (3-2) took the loss against the White Sox on Thursday, pitching four innings and allowing five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out one batter.
Analysis: Bubic has handed a 1-0 lead before he took the mound but gave that up quickly when he surrendered a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. The left-hander pitched a clean second but then gave up three runs across the following two frames before being lifted. The five runs he allowed tied a season-worst mark in what turned out to be his shortest outing of the season. Bubic has given up one or zero runs in four of his nine starts, but he's also yielded four or more runs three times. Altogether, he's posted a mediocre 4.11 ERA and 1.23 WHIP along with a 51:26 K:BB over 50.1 innings on the season.
Vinnie Pasquantino
Vinnie Pasquantino Drives in two runs Wednesday
Wed, May 13, 2026, 9:46 PM
Pasquantino went 1-for-4 with a two-run single during the Royals' 6-5 loss to the White Sox on Wednesday.
Analysis: Pasquantino tied things up at 3-3 in the fifth inning, when his single to center field brought home both Bobby Witt and Lane Thomas. It was the fourth time this season that Pasquantino logged two RBI in a game, and his 21 RBI are second-most on the Royals behind Witt (22).
