Colton Gordon
Colton Gordon Can't get through fifth inning
Sat, Sep 6, 2025, 3:34 AM
Gordon took a no-decision Friday against the Rangers, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: Gordon continued to struggle in the major leagues, as he's now without a quality start since June 13 against the Twins. That outing was also the last time he pitched at least six frames, and he's yielded at least four runs in five of his last eight outings. Gordon has a poor 5.67 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 73 innings this season, so he doesn't set up as a recommended fantasy streamer in his next scheduled turn against Atlanta. However, it's possible Friday's appearance was only a spot start.
Ramon Urias
Ramon Urias Out of Friday's starting lineup
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 4:28 PM
Urias is not in the Astros' starting lineup against the Rangers on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Urias has started in each of Houston's last four games, but he went 0-for-10 with one RBI and six strikeouts during the Astros' three-game home series against the Yankees. He'll be on the bench for the start of Friday's contest while Jose Altuve starts at the keystone and Yordan Alvarez serves as the designated hitter.
Mauricio Dubon
Mauricio Dubon Not in Friday's starting lineup
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 4:21 PM
Dubon is not in Houston's starting lineup against Texas on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Dubon will be on the bench for the beginning of Friday's contest while Jesus Sanchez, Taylor Trammell and Cam Smith start in the outfield from left to right. Dubon has a .503 OPS with eight runs, three doubles, one homer and five RBI in 93 plate appearances since the beginning of August.
Yainer Diaz
Yainer Diaz Resting Friday
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 4:14 PM
Diaz is not in the Astros' starting lineup against the Rangers on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Diaz will get a rest day while Victor Caratini starts behind home plate and bats seventh. Diaz has gone 8-for-38 (.211) with three doubles, one home run and three RBI over his last 10 games.
Zach Dezenzo
Zach Dezenzo Pulled off rehab assignment
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 3:47 PM
Dezenzo (hand) has been pulled off his minor-league rehab asssignment due to an elbow sprain, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Dezenzo had been rehabbing from a left hand capsule strain at Triple-A Sugar Land, but he's been pulled off the assignment after picking up a sprained elbow. The 25-year-old's last minor-league appearance came Sept. 2. At this point, it's unclear when Dezenzo will be activated.
Colton Gordon
Colton Gordon Recalled to start Friday's game
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 3:29 PM
The Astros recalled Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Gordon will start Friday's contest in Texas versus the Rangers, giving the Astros' regular rotation members some extra rest. The southpaw holds a 5.64 ERA in 68.2 innings covering 13 starts and two relief outings this season.
Kaleb Ort
Kaleb Ort Placed on IL
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 3:28 PM
The Astros placed Ort on the 15-day injured list Friday due to right elbow inflammation, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.
Analysis: Ort was roughed up in Thursday's loss to the Yankees, surrendering four runs on three hits and two walks while recording just two outs. He'll now miss at least the next couple weeks. On the season, Ort has a 4.89 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 49:27 K:BB across 46 innings. Houston's bullpen continues to be hit hard by injuries.
Colton Gordon
Colton Gordon Slated for call up
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 11:41 AM
The Astros are expected to recall Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: Houston hasn't listed a starter for Friday's game against the Rangers, and it's possible Gordon's being called up to fill that hole. Gordon has been at Sugar Land since Aug. 13, and he posted a 5.93 ERA in three starts during that time. The 26-year-old has a 5.64 ERA in 68.2 innings with the Astros this season, starting in 13 of his 15 appearances.
Carlos Correa
Carlos Correa Modest four-game hit streak
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 8:16 AM
Correa went 2-for-5 with a double on Thursday against the Yankees.
Analysis: Correa has reached base consistently since his reunion with the Astros, maintaining a .293 average and .351 on-base percentage across 123 at-bats. He currently has a four-game hitting streak and has recorded a double in each of his last two contests. Correa also continues to occupy a key spot in the Houston lineup, as he's hit primarily second or fourth.
Jesus Sanchez
Jesus Sanchez Belts homer in loss
Thu, Sep 4, 2025, 11:11 PM
Sanchez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: Sanchez went yard in the seventh inning as a pinch hitter, and he stayed in the game in right field, replacing Cam Smith. Sanchez has gone 14-for-31 (.452) over his last 10 games, adding three homers, three doubles and six RBI in that span, though he continues to fill a strong-side platoon role in the corner outfield. The 27-year-old is slashing .255/.319/.424 with 13 homers, 43 RBI, 53 runs scored, 20 doubles, four triples and nine stolen bases over 114 games between the Astros and the Marlins this season.
Yordan Alvarez
Yordan Alvarez Erupts for homer, four hits
Thu, Sep 4, 2025, 11:08 PM
Alvarez went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, a double, a second RBI and two total runs scored in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: Alvarez has pummeled the Yankees' pitching over the last two games, going 8-for-10 with three extra-base hits and three RBI in that span. The slugger struggled to find his timing right after being activated from the injured list after a lengthy absence due to a hand injury, but he's bounced back quickly with four multi-hit efforts over his last five games. He's now batting .273 with an .811 OPS, five homers, 25 RBI, 14 runs scored and one stolen base across 158 plate appearances this season.
Cristian Javier
Cristian Javier Back to struggles versus Yankees
Thu, Sep 4, 2025, 11:04 PM
Javier (1-2) allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.1 innings to take the loss versus the Yankees on Thursday.
Analysis: Javier threw six no-hit innings versus the Angels in his last start, but he wasn't able to replicate the effort against a tougher opponent. He gave up one run in the second inning and then ran into significant trouble before he was pulled in the fifth. Javier is now at a 4.43 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB through 20.1 innings over five starts since returning from Tommy John surgery, which may explain his shaky control, though he's never been particularly dominant at limiting walks anyway. Javier is lined up for a challenging road start versus the Blue Jays next week.
Spencer Arrighetti
Spencer Arrighetti Likely done for regular season
Thu, Sep 4, 2025, 4:17 PM
Astros manager Joe Espada said they are still waiting on Arrighetti's (elbow) MRI results Thursday, but that a return during the regular season is unlikely, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Arrighetti was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right elbow inflammation. He is unlikely to return during the regular season given the timing this late into the season.
Jake Meyers
Jake Meyers Nearing weekend return
Thu, Sep 4, 2025, 4:09 PM
Meyers (calf) is in the lineup as the designated hitter Thursday for Triple-A Sugar Land after he fouled a ball off his right knee Wednesday night, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Meyers should be able to rejoin the Astros during their series against the Rangers that commences Friday. He will most likely join the team Saturday for game two of the series. The 29-year-old has slashed .200/.333/.267 across 18 plate appearances in five games during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land.
Jeremy Pena
Jeremy Pena Clubs 15th long ball
Thu, Sep 4, 2025, 3:42 AM
Pena went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and a walk in an 8-7 win against the Yankees on Wednesday.
Analysis: Pena pulled the Astros to within two runs with his solo shot in the sixth inning, and he later gave his team another run with an RBI-single in the eighth. Pena has produced six multi-hit performances over his past 12 games, batting .306 with two homers, eight RBI, six runs and three thefts over that span. He's up to an .848 OPS on the campaign, which is on pace to blow away his previous career-best mark of .715.
Jason Alexander
Jason Alexander Fans six over five frames
Thu, Sep 4, 2025, 3:29 AM
Alexander allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Wednesday.
Analysis: Alexander wasn't dominant Wednesday, and all three runs he allowed scored on a pair of Yankees homers. Nonetheless, he kept Houston within arm's length, which proved critical when the Astros mounted a comeback over the sixth through eighth frames. Alexander has now given up three or fewer runs in seven straight outings, posting a 2.79 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with a 38:10 K:BB across 38.2 innings during that span. That's earned him a spot in the rotation for now, while Lance McCullers has been moved to the bullpen.
John Rooney
John Rooney Shifts to 60-day IL
Wed, Sep 3, 2025, 6:54 PM
The Astros transferred Rooney (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Elbow inflammation sent Rooney to the injured list last week, and moving to the 60-day IL will officially put an end to his season. The 28-year-old turned in a 2.56 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 38.2 innings in Triple-A and gave up one run in 1.1 frames during his MLB debut. Jayden Murray was selected to the active roster in a corresponding move.
Spencer Arrighetti
Spencer Arrighetti Sent to injured list
Wed, Sep 3, 2025, 6:46 PM
The Astros placed Arrighetti on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Arrighetti gave up just one run in 6.1 innings while punching out a season-high eight batters during his last start Saturday, but he reported pain in his elbow after a bullpen session Wednesday, per Rome. The Astros could revert to a five-man rotation until the 25-year-old righty returns; meanwhile, Jayden Murray will come up from Triple-A Sugar Land to provide Houston with extra bullpen depth.
Ramon Urias
Ramon Urias Drawing fourth straight start
Wed, Sep 3, 2025, 6:40 PM
Urias will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Urias will pick up his fourth straight start at the keystone after going 3-for-10 with a home run, a double, a walk and two RBI over the previous three contests. With Jose Altuve seeing most of his playing time of late at designated hitter or in left field, Urias looks like he could be a stable part of the lineup at second base while he's swinging a hot bat. Urias could eventually face competition for reps at second from Mauricio Dubon, who has been playing more in center field of late but may become more of a factor in the infield once Jake Meyers (calf) returns from the injured list.
Mauricio Dubon
Mauricio Dubon Sitting for second time in four games
Wed, Sep 3, 2025, 6:36 PM
Dubon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Dubon will hit the bench for the second time in four games and could be transitioning back into more of a part-time role after he had been a near-everyday player for Houston since about mid-May. The last two of his starts have come in center field, but Jake Meyers (calf) will likely see the bulk of the opportunities at that position once he returns from the injured list, perhaps as soon as this weekend.
