Nick Allen
Nick Allen Reinstated, starting Tuesday
Tue, May 5, 2026, 4:21 PM
The Astros reinstated Allen (back) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports.
Analysis: It was thought Allen may not return until later in May, but he's set to start at third base and is batting ninth versus the Dodgers on Tuesday. The Infielder was shut down April 20 due to back spasms that had kept him out of the lineup in the few days prior. As part of a series of roster moves Tuesday, the Astros placed Yainer Diaz on the 10-day IL with a left oblique strain.
Yainer Diaz
Yainer Diaz Officially placed on IL
Tue, May 5, 2026, 4:17 PM
The Astros placed Diaz (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: A left oblique strain caused Diaz to be scratched from the lineup ahead of Monday's contest and will now also prevent him from playing for another 10 days. Christian Vazquez will presumably take over as the Astros' primary catcher while Diaz is on the shelf, and Nick Allen (back) will come off the injured list to claim the open roster spot.
Zach Dezenzo
Zach Dezenzo Recalled following IL stint
Tue, May 5, 2026, 4:12 PM
The Astros recalled Dezenzo (elbow) from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports.
Analysis: Dezenzo is returning from a right elbow sprain he suffered while playing in the World Baseball Classic for Team Italy. He was activated off of the 10-day injured list Monday, but was promptly optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land. The outfielder is not in the lineup versus the Dodgers on Tuesday, so he will have to wait to see his first MLB action of the season. In part of a corresponding move, Dustin Harris was designated for assignment.
Dustin Harris
Dustin Harris DFA'd by Astros
Tue, May 5, 2026, 4:11 PM
The Astros designated Harris for assignment Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Harris appeared in 11 games after joining the Astros in mid-April, during which he went 7-for-31 (.226) at the plate with four RBI, four runs and two steals. He'll lose his place on the active roster to make room for Zach Dezenzo, who was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move.
Ryan Weiss
Ryan Weiss Demoted to Triple-A
Tue, May 5, 2026, 4:07 PM
The Astros optioned Weiss to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Weiss was lit up for seven runs (six earned) over 4.1 innings during Monday's loss to the Dodgers, inflating his ERA to 7.62 to go with a 2.12 WHIP through 26 innings on the year. He'll now head back to the minors to right the ship, and Jason Alexander will come up from Triple-A to round out Houston's bullpen.

Jason Alexander Back up with Houston
Tue, May 5, 2026, 4:05 PM
The Astros recalled Alexander from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports.
Analysis: Alexander is returning to Houston after departing for Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday. The move comes along with Ryan Weiss being optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land Monday night.
Hits shelf at Double-A
Tue, May 5, 2026, 12:28 PM
Double-A Corpus Christi placed Spence on its 7-day injured list April 22 due to an unspecified injury.
Analysis: The 23-year-old outfielder slashed .267/.382/.311 with zero home runs and two stolen bases over 55 plate appearances on the season for Corpus Christi before landing on the shelf.
Lands on Double-A injured list
Tue, May 5, 2026, 12:10 PM
Double-A Corpus Christi placed Janek on its 7-day injured list Sunday due to an unspecified injury.
Analysis: Jimmy Price of AstrosFuture.com noted that Janek was pulled early from a game Friday after he came up limping while scoring from second base on a single, so the 23-year-old catcher could be nursing some sort of lower-body injury. Before landing on the shelf, Janek had gotten off to a rough start to the season at Corpus Christi, slashing .135/.179/.216 with one home run and four stolen bases while striking out at a 35.9 percent clip over 78 plate appearances.
Taylor Trammell
Taylor Trammell Resumes running, light activity
Tue, May 5, 2026, 12:02 PM
The Astros announced Monday that Trammell (groin) has begun a running progression in addition to taking part in light baseball activity, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Trammell is working his way back from a left groin strain, which sent him to the 10-day injured list April 21. He looks like he has a few more boxes to check in the recovery process before advancing to a minor-league rehab assignment and a return to the Astros' active roster. Trammell opened the season as a non-roster player for the Astros but reached the big leagues April 10 when Houston's outfield depth was tested by injuries. Before getting hurt himself, Trammell acquitted himself well over his 10 games with the big club, slashing .345/.424/.448 over 33 plate appearances.
Joey Loperfido
Joey Loperfido Engages in light running
Tue, May 5, 2026, 11:56 AM
The Astros announced Monday that Loperfido (quadriceps) has started light running and light baseball activity, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Manager Joe Espada previously said on April 20 that Loperfido had been cleared for baseball activity, and though the outfielder appears to have since added some running work to the mix, he's not been able to take any other meaningful steps forward in his recovery from a right quad strain. The Astros are expected to continue to turn to Zach Cole and Dustin Harris to serve as their primary options in left field while Loperfido remains on the shelf.
Nick Allen
Nick Allen In midst of rehab assignment
Tue, May 5, 2026, 11:53 AM
Allen (back) went 2-for-7 with a double, two walks, three runs and two RBI while playing in a pair of rehab games with Double-A Corpus Christi over the weekend.
Analysis: Houston placed Allen on the 10-day injured list April 20 after he began experiencing mid-back spasms, but he should be ready to rejoin the big club by the middle of May. He's expected to continue his rehab assignment through the end of the week, though it's unclear whether he'll stick around with Corpus Christi or move to a different affiliate.
Hayden Wesneski
Hayden Wesneski Throwing bullpen sessions
Tue, May 5, 2026, 11:50 AM
The Astros announced Monday that Wesneski (elbow) is continuing to complete regular bullpen sessions as part of his throwing progression, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Wesneski could soon be ready to face hitters in live batting practice, as he's been throwing off a mound at the Astros' spring training facility in Florida for more than a month while he continues his rehab program for Tommy John surgery, which he underwent May 23, 2025. The right-hander will eventually require a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated from the injured list, so he won't be a realistic option to make his 2026 debut for the big club until some point after the All-Star break.
Cristian Javier
Cristian Javier Ready to start throwing
Tue, May 5, 2026, 11:44 AM
The Astros announced Monday that Javier (shoulder) will begin a throwing progression this week, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Javier had been shut down from throwing since landing on the shelf April 10 with a Grade 2 shoulder strain. Fellow starter Hunter Brown was placed on the injured list with the same injury April 7, but he appears to be much further along in the recovery process, as he's been able to throw off flat ground out to 120 feet and could throw his first bullpen session later this week. Given that general manager Dana Brown recently said that the Astros are hoping to get Brown back from the IL around early to mid-June, it's fair to expect Javier's absence to stretch into the latter half of June, if not July.
Ronel Blanco
Ronel Blanco Throwing side sessions in Florida
Tue, May 5, 2026, 11:30 AM
The Astros announced Monday that Blanco (elbow) is continuing to complete regular bullpen sessions as part of his throwing progression, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Still on the mend from June 2025 Tommy John surgery with an internal brace as well as a repair of the flexor tendon of his forearm, Blanco remains at the Astros' complex in Florida to conduct his rehab. He's been throwing off a mound for more than a month now, so Blanco could soon be ready to take the next step in his progression by facing hitters. Blanco is hopeful to return from the 60-day injured list at some point in 2026, though he likely won't be a candidate for activation until after the All-Star break.
Zach Cole
Zach Cole Homers in return
Tue, May 5, 2026, 6:35 AM
Cole went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 8-3 loss to the Dodgers.
Analysis: Making his first major-league appearance this season, Cole provided the Astros with one of their few bright spots Monday with his fifth-inning homer off Yoshinobu Yamamoto. With Taylor Trammell (groin), Joey Loperfido (quadriceps) and Jake Meyers (oblique) all on the IL, the left-handed hitting Cole is poised to see regular playing time in Houston's outfield, particularly against right-handed pitching. Cole impressed in a 15-game stint with the Astros last season, where he slashed .255/.327/.553 with four homers, 11 RBI, nine runs scored and three steals across 52 plate appearances.
Yainer Diaz
Yainer Diaz Will require IL stint
Mon, May 4, 2026, 10:20 PM
Diaz is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique injury, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Diaz was scratched from Monday's starting lineup with what was reported to be a left abdominal injury, and manager Joe Espada added after the game that the backstop will miss some time due to an oblique issue. Christian Vazquez can be expected to serve as the primary catcher while Diaz recovers.
Shay Whitcomb
Shay Whitcomb Sent to minors
Mon, May 4, 2026, 6:22 PM
Whitcomb was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The Astros needed to promote a catcher ahead of Monday's game against the Dodgers after Yainer Diaz (abdomen) was a late scratch, and Whitcomb will end up being the roster casualty. Whitcomb has struggled to a .077 average with one home run, three RBI and one run scored through 10 games this season.
Cesar Salazar
Cesar Salazar Back in big leagues
Mon, May 4, 2026, 6:12 PM
Salazar was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land before Monday's game against the Dodgers, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Salazar was promoted a few hours before first pitch after it was announced that Yainer Diaz was scratched with an abdominal injury. Salazar will serve as the backup catcher to Christian Vazquez on Monday.
Yainer Diaz
Yainer Diaz Late scratch Monday
Mon, May 4, 2026, 6:05 PM
Diaz (abdomen) has been scratched from Monday's lineup against the Dodgers due to a left abdominal injury, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Diaz was initially slated to bat ninth in Monday's series opener, but an abdominal injury will keep him from taking the field. He can be considered day-to-day until the team has more information to share on the severity of his injury.
Dustin Harris
Dustin Harris Taking seat Monday
Mon, May 4, 2026, 4:59 PM
Harris is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.
Analysis: After starting each of the Astros' previous seven games and going 7-for-22 (.318 average) with two stolen bases, four RBI and two runs, Harris will head to the bench as Houston begins a three-game series with the Dodgers. Harris could be at risk of fading into more of a part-time role in the Houston outfield after the Astros recalled Zach Cole (toe) from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday. Cole will replace Harris in the lineup Monday, manning left field while batting eighth.
