Isaac Paredes
Isaac Paredes Posts ninth career multi-homer game
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 10:36 PM
Paredes went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs in Monday's 9-2 win over the Guardians.
Analysis: Paredes delivered his ninth career multi-homer game Monday for his first big flies of the season. The 27-year-old infielder has just three multi-hit efforts in 2026, and he's still searching for consistency in his power stroke. Over his first 79 trips to the plate, Paredes is slashing .221/.329/.368 with the aforementioned two long balls, four doubles and 16 RBI.
Christian Walker
Christian Walker Hot start continues Monday
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 10:30 PM
Walker went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, a double and two additional runs scored in Monday's 9-2 win over the Guardians.
Analysis: It was a breakout performance by Walker, who had entered Monday in a brief 0-for-15 cold spell over his prior five games. Following a disappointing debut season with Houston a year ago, Walker is off to an excellent start in 2026. The 35-year-old first baseman is slashing .274/.367/.536 with 12 extra-base hits, 18 RBI and 16 runs scored across 98 plate appearances.
Spencer Arrighetti
Spencer Arrighetti Five decent innings in second win
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 10:14 PM
Arrighetti (2-0) notched the win Monday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Control remained a problem for Arrighetti, who walked four batters in his second consecutive start, but he got plenty of run support and pitched just well enough to keep Cleveland in check. The Astros are hurting for starting pitchers in the early going, as Hunter Brown (shoulder), Tatsuya Imai (arm) and Cristian Javier (shoulder) are all sidelined already, so Arrighetti should stick around in the rotation for a while longer. The right-hander is set to bring a 2.45 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 13:8 K:BB over his first 11 innings into a tough matchup against the Yankees this weekend.
Taylor Trammell
Taylor Trammell Expected to miss time
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 8:40 PM
Manager Joe Espada stated after Monday's game against the Guardians that Trammell (groin) will "be out for a little bit", Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Trammell suffered a left groin injury while running the bases Monday, and it sounds as though he'll require a trip to the injured list. An official move should come at some point Tuesday. Dustin Harris and Brice Matthews could see more time in center field while Trammell is sidelined.
Taylor Trammell
Taylor Trammell Diagnosed with groin injury
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 7:05 PM
Trammell left Monday's game against the Guardians due to a left groin injury, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports.
Analysis: Trammell was forced to depart Monday's matchup after suffering an injury while running the bases. The team has yet to disclose the severity of the injury, so he can be considered day-to-day until further notice.
Taylor Trammell
Taylor Trammell Exits Monday's game
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 6:20 PM
Trammell was removed from Monday's game against the Guardians in the fourth inning due to an apparent lower-body injury, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Trammell appeared to sustain the injury while running to third base and left the field with a trainer shortly after. He went 1-for-1 with a walk prior to being replaced by Cam Smith in the outfield. The Astros should have an update on Trammell's injury once he undergoes more tests.
Joey Loperfido
Joey Loperfido Will go through baseball activities
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 4:10 PM
Astros manager Joe Espada said that Loperfido (quadriceps) will do some baseball activities Monday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Loperfido is with the team in Cleveland for its brief three-game road trip, which is a good omen for his prospects of a quick return. He will be eligible for activation from the 10-day injured list April 28.
Jeremy Pena
Jeremy Pena Takes part in running workout
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 4:07 PM
Astros manager Joe Espada said that Pena (hamstring) did some running Monday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Pena was cleared to run for the first time since he landed on the 10-day injured list a week ago with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. The shortstop is eligible to return from the IL on Friday, but it's possible the Astros will ask him to go out on a rehab assignment before being activated. Carlos Correa has served as the team's primary shortstop since Pena went down, with Isaac Paredes handling third base.
Cody Bolton
Cody Bolton Set for live batting practice
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 4:04 PM
Bolton (back) will throw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Bolton landed on the 15-day injured list last week with mid-back inflammation. He's eligible for activation April 28 and has a good chance to be back by that date, given that he's already been cleared to face hitters.
Tatsuya Imai
Tatsuya Imai Throws off mound
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 3:56 PM
Imai (arm) threw a bullpen session Monday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: It appears to be the first time he has thrown off the mound since landed on the 15-day injured list a week ago with right arm fatigue. The Astros haven't revealed the next steps for Imai, but it will likely involve facing hitters and perhaps making a rehab start or two. Imai holds a 7.27 ERA and 13:11 K:BB over his first 8.2 innings with Houston.
Taylor Trammell
Taylor Trammell Serving as primary center fielder
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:38 PM
Trammell will start in center field and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: Trammell will draw his fifth consecutive start and should have a clear path to an everyday role in center field for the time being after Joey Loperfido (quadriceps) recently joined Jake Meyers (oblique) on the injured list. Since receiving a call-up from Triple-A Sugar Land on April 10, Trammell has slashed .321/.387/.429 with two extra-base hits (one double, one triple), one stolen base, four RBI and four runs in nine games.
Cam Smith
Cam Smith Receiving rare day off
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:34 PM
Smith is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Smith will exit the starting nine for just the second time through the Astros' first 24 games, clearing the way for waiver pickup Dustin Harris to make his first start with Houston. Though he'll head to the bench after going hitless in each of his last four games, Smith is still holding maintaining a .764 OPS on the season, well ahead of the .670 mark that he posted during his 2025 rookie campaign.
Peter Lambert
Peter Lambert Awarded another start
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:20 PM
Lambert is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Guardians in Cleveland, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Summoned from Triple-A Sugar Land last week after submitting a 1.84 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over his first three starts in the minors, Lambert stepped in to fill one of the opening in Houston's injury plagued rotation. Though he was dealt a loss Friday against the Cardinals after yielding four runs and allowing 10 baserunners in five innings, Lambert posted a strong 8:1 K:BB and racked up 23 swinging strikes on 90 pitches. That massive whiff total alone makes Lambert a worthwhile speculative pickup in deeper leagues, and another quality showing against the Guardians could allow the 29-year-old righty to solidify a more permanent spot in a rotation that isn't expected to get any of its injured starters back anytime soon.
Nick Allen
Nick Allen Shut down with back spasms
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:11 PM
The Astros placed Allen (back) on the 10-day injured list Monday.
Analysis: Allen had been scheduled to start at shortstop in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Cardinals before being scratched from the lineup shortly before first pitch when he developed back spasms. The 27-year-old apparently didn't show meaningful improvement after resting up over the last couple of days, so Houston will keep him on the shelf for at least its entire seven-game week to give him extra time off to recover. The Astros called up Braden Shewmake from Triple-A Sugar Land to replace Allen as a utility infielder.
J.P. France
J.P. France Goes unclaimed via waivers
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:07 PM
The Astros outrighted France to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.
Analysis: After the Astros designated him for assignment for the second time in just over two months this past weekend, France will once again end up sticking around in the Houston organization upon going unclaimed off waivers. He'll likely slot back into the rotation at Sugar Land, which lost three of its starters (Spencer Arrighetti, Colton Gordon and Peter Lambert) last week when the big club was in need of further reinforcement.
Cristian Javier
Cristian Javier Bound for 60-day IL
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 2:03 PM
The Astros transferred Javier (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.
Analysis: Javier's initial placement on the 15-day IL was retroactive to April 9, so his move to the 60-day IL ensures that he'll be on the shelf through at least the first week of June while he recovers from a Grade 2 right shoulder strain. Given the length of his absence along with his poor numbers prior to landing on the shelf (12.54 ERA, 2.36 WHIP and 4:9 K:BB in 9.1 innings over three starts), Javier likely won't be worth holding in the majority of fantasy leagues.
Braden Shewmake
Braden Shewmake Called up to majors
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 1:55 PM
The Astros selected Shewmake's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.
Analysis: Just one day after acquiring Shewmake in a trade with the Yankees, the Astros will elevate the 28-year-old to the big-league roster to provide added depth in the infield while Jeremy Pena (hamstring) and Nick Allen (back) are on the shelf. Shewmake last saw big-league action in 2024 with the White Sox, appearing in 29 games while batting just .125/.134/.203 with one home run and five stolen bases over 67 plate appearances.
Ryan Weiss
Ryan Weiss Receiving another start
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 1:45 PM
Weiss is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Guardians in Cleveland, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: The Astros appear set to condense their rotation from six to five men this week, and Weiss, Spencer Arrighetti and Peter Lambert will all maintain starting roles for the time being after Colton Gordon was shifted to the bullpen Saturday. After making his first five appearances of the season in relief, Weiss was unable to make it out of the fourth in his first MLB start last Thursday against the Rockies, covering 3.2 innings and striking out three while allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks. The 29-year-old righty has walked 13.9 percent of the batters he's faced on the season and will likely need to show improvement in that area to guarantee himself a longer-term stay in the rotation, even as the Astros contend with numerous injuries to starting pitchers.
Daniel Johnson
Daniel Johnson Catches on with Houston
Mon, Apr 20, 2026, 9:32 AM
Johnson signed a minor-league contract with Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday and was assigned to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Analysis: Sugar Land immediately inserted Johnson into its lineup, with the 30-year-old starting in center field and going 1-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run in a 7-4 extra-inning win over Salt Lake in Sunday's series finale. The addition of Johnson provides Houston with extra organizational depth in the outfield after the big-league roster recently lost Jake Meyers (oblique) and Joey Loperfido (quadriceps) to the injured list. Johnson previously saw MLB action last season between stops with the Giants and Orioles, slashing just .189/.246/.302 with one home run and two stolen bases across 57 plate appearances.
Colton Gordon
Colton Gordon Shifts to bullpen
Sun, Apr 19, 2026, 10:51 PM
Gordon struck out five and allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk across 2.2 innings out of the bullpen in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Earlier in the week, Houston recalled Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land and plugged him into a rotation that had recently lost all of Hunter Brown (shoulder), Cristian Javier (shoulder), Tatsuya Imai (arm) and Cody Bolton (back) to the injured list. Gordon was lit up for four earned runs on eight hits across 3.2 innings while taking a no-decision Tuesday in Houston's 7-6 win over Colorado, and the poor showing as a starter followed by the extended relief appearance looks like it will at least temporarily keep the left-hander from receiving additional turns through the rotation. Ryan Weiss and Peter Lambert would now appear to be the likely candidates to fill out the final two spots in the Houston rotation, which could be scaled back from six men to five during the upcoming week with an off day looming Thursday.
