Javier Baez
Javier Baez Beginning on bench again Saturday
Sat, Aug 22, 2026, 3:12 PM
Baez isn't in the Tigers' starting lineup for Saturday's matchup versus Kansas City.
Analysis: It's the second time in three days that Baez isn't starting, and he's in the midst of a 1-for-18 stretch at the plate. Kevin McGonigle is shifting over to shortstop Saturday, while Hao-Yu Lee is playing third base.
Troy Melton
Troy Melton Takes second loss Friday
Sat, Aug 22, 2026, 8:38 AM
Melton (7-2) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits across 5.2 innings to take the loss in Friday's 5-2 defeat to the Royals. He walked three and struck out three.
Analysis: Melton was ultimately done in by a pair of Kansas City home runs as well as a lack of run support, and he ended up taking his first loss since June 25. In eight starts since then coming into Friday's contest, he had allowed two earned runs just once and had posted a sparkling 0.77 ERA. On the season, Melton has a stellar 1.60 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 90 innings of work, though he hasn't been a great source of strikeouts with only 76 of them so far. The young righty will look to get back in the win column in his next scheduled outing, which is currently lined up for Wednesday against the Rays at home.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Leads offense in loss
Sat, Aug 22, 2026, 8:30 AM
McGonigle went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Royals.
Analysis: McGonigle was the only Detroit player with multiple hits as the offense slowed down against Kansas City starter Noah Cameron and four relievers. The rookie infielder continues to deliver consistently good results, as he's now batting .274 in August with three home runs, one steal, 14 RBI and 14 runs scored in 18 games. Overall, McGonigle is batting .284, and he's recorded 13 homers, 53 RBI, 82 runs scored and 12 stolen bases across 124 contests in what's been an outstanding MLB debut.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Next start delayed
Fri, Aug 21, 2026, 5:25 PM
Montero will not make his next scheduled start during the Tigers' upcoming series against the Rays, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Montero isn't dealing with an injury, but the Tigers said he didn't recover well from his most recent start against Pittsburgh on Tuesday, so they'll give him a few extra days to recover before taking the mound again. Detroit has yet to set a date for the right-hander's next appearance, but it will likely come sometime next weekend against the Dodgers.
Brant Hurter
Brant Hurter Rehab assignment paused
Fri, Aug 21, 2026, 4:47 PM
The Tigers pulled Hurter (back) off his rehab assignment Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Hurter isn't dealing with any new injury complications, but the Tigers will pull him away from minor-league games anyway for about a week so that he can work out some issues with his delivery. The left-hander hasn't found much success since he was cleared to play in rehab games Aug. 5, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits and four walks while striking out four batters in just 3.2 innings.
Yet to get going at new level
Thu, Aug 20, 2026, 7:54 PM
In seven games since getting promoted to Triple-A Toledo, Briceno has gone just 4-for-24 with no home runs and nine strikeouts.
Analysis: Briceno earned the promotion by slashing .297/.382/.672 with eight home runs across 76 plate appearances for Double-A Erie earlier in the season. So far, Triple-A hasn't been as welcoming for the 21-year-old, but he's shown good offensive upside throughout his time in the minors and should settle in with the Mud Hens eventually. Briceno remains the Tigers' top catching prospect and could start knocking on the door of the majors next year, though Dillon Dingler has solidified himself as Detroit's answer behind the plate, so Briceno may have to shift to a different position when he makes his MLB debut.
Off to slow start with new organization
Thu, Aug 20, 2026, 7:46 PM
Since joining the Detroit organization in the trade that sent Tarik Skubal to the Dodgers, Hope is slashing just .149/.241/.319 with 17 strikeouts in 12 games for Double-A Erie.
Analysis: Hope was considered the best part of the return for Skubal, and at just 21 years old, he still has a bright future with his new organization. However, the young outfielder has scuffled in the early going with the Sea Wolves. Hope performed much better for Double-A Tulsa before the trade, posting a .293/.369/.530 slash line with 23 home runs and 18 stolen bases across 94 contests, so he has shown he can produce at this level. Better days should be ahead for the top prospect.
James Outman
James Outman Beginning rehab assignment
Thu, Aug 20, 2026, 2:30 PM
Outman (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Outman has been on the 7-day concussion IL since last Thursday, and he appears to be nearing the final stages of his recovery now that he's been cleared to play in rehab games. It's unclear how many reps the Tigers will have him take at Toledo before adding him back onto the active roster, but a return during Detroit's upcoming weekend series in Kansas City isn't out of the question.
Hao-Yu Lee
Hao-Yu Lee Productive showing in loss
Wed, Aug 19, 2026, 7:08 PM
Lee went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Pirates.
Analysis: Hitting ninth, Lee had a good afternoon, and he's now batting .438 with six runs scored across his last eight games. The rookie started at third base in this one, and his ability to move between the hot corner and second gives him a little extra versatility. If Lee keeps swinging a hot bat, the Tigers will likely keep finding ways to get him in the lineup at either position, making him someone to keep an eye on in fantasy leagues over the last month of the season.
Max Clark
Max Clark Tallies two hits Wednesday
Wed, Aug 19, 2026, 7:01 PM
Clark went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Pirates.
Analysis: Clark managed a double against Pittsburgh ace Paul Skenes and added another hit for his second multi-hit performance of the three-game series against the Pirates. After a scorching hot start to his MLB career, the rookie outfielder has slowed down a bit recently, but he's still managed a very respectable .271/.320/.414 slash line overall across 18 games. Clark should continue to see regular playing time down the stretch for the Tigers, which should prepare him well for an Opening Day role in 2027.
Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen Blows fifth save
Wed, Aug 19, 2026, 4:46 PM
Jansen (3-5) blew the save and took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning as the Tigers fell 4-3 to the Pirates. He struck out one.
Analysis: Charged with protecting a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning, Jansen instead served up solo homers to Rafael Flores and Brandon Lowe to get saddled with his fifth blown save of the season. It's the first time since May 2 of last season that Jansen's been taken deep multiple times in the same appearance, and through 34.1 innings in 2026 he's now served up seven homers, giving him career-worst marks in HR/9 (1.83) and ERA (4.19).
Jackson Jobe
Jackson Jobe Stingy in no-decision Wednesday
Wed, Aug 19, 2026, 4:41 PM
Jobe didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Pirates, allowing one run on four hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: The 24-year-old right-hander bounced back nicely from a rough outing against the White Sox last Friday, tossing 53 of 86 pitches for strikes, but Jobe was denied his second win of the season when Kenley Jansen blew the save in the ninth inning. Jobe will take a 4.50 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB through 14 innings over three starts into his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rays.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Resting for series finale
Wed, Aug 19, 2026, 10:14 AM
Baez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Analysis: After starting in the last four games and going 0-for-14 with two strikeouts, Baez will head to the bench as the Tigers close out their series in Pittsburgh with a matinee game. Kevin McGonigle will slide over from third base to spell Baez at shortstop.
Brett Callahan
Brett Callahan Slugs first major-league homer
Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 8:16 PM
Callahan went 2-for-3 with a solo home run during the Tigers' 4-1 loss to the Pirates on Tuesday.
Analysis: The Tigers didn't have much of an answer for Braxton Ashcraft, but Callahan was responsible for two of Detroit's five hits off the right-hander, one which was a solo homer in the fifth inning. It was the first home run of Callahan's career, and the 24-year-old outfielder has gone 4-for-9 with five RBI and two extra-base hits since being promoted from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Yields three runs in fifth for loss
Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 8:12 PM
Montero (9-8) took the loss against the Pirates on Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three across five innings.
Analysis: Montero looked to be in complete control of Tuesday's game after retiring the first 12 batters he faced. That momentum quickly shifted in the fifth, when he opened the inning with a walk before yielding a two-run homer to Oneil Cruz. Montero gave up another run in the frame and didn't come back out for the sixth, ultimately taking the loss as his Tigers teammates provided little offense against Pirates right-hander Braxton Ashcraft. Montero will take a 3.30 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 133.2 innings into his next start, slated for next week at home against the Rays in what projects to be a two-start week.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Rehab process on hold
Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 4:34 PM
Carpenter (foot) will pause his rehab program after suffering a setback, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Carpenter will have his foot partially immobilized for the next few days, by which time his rehab will resume based on his symptoms. The 28-year-old is recovering from plantar fasciitis in his right foot that caused him to go on the 10-day IL in late July. The Tigers should have a better idea of Carpenter's new return timeline once he's cleared to resume baseball activities.
Trei Cruz
Trei Cruz Stays in organization
Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 3:19 PM
The Tigers outrighted Cruz to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Cruz was removed from the Tigers' 40-man roster this past weekend, but he will stay in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The utility player has slashed only .230/.306/.309 at Toledo this season and is hitless in five plate appearances in the majors.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Getting breather Tuesday
Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 2:22 PM
Dingler is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh.
Analysis: It's a well-earned day off for Dingler, who had made 20 consecutive starts (15 at catcher, five at designated hitter). Eduardo Valencia will do the catching and will bat cleanup for the Tigers.
Zach McKinstry
Zach McKinstry Tallies three hits in win
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 10:47 PM
McKinstry went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 8-5 win over the Pirates.
Analysis: McKinstry matched his season high with the three hits, and both of those performances have come this month. After a rough start to the year, the utility player has found his groove in August with a .326/.442/.419 slash line across 15 games. McKinstry's defensive versatility should keep him in the lineup most days, and he's starting to deliver some production for fantasy managers.
Hao-Yu Lee
Hao-Yu Lee Reaches five times in win
Mon, Aug 17, 2026, 10:42 PM
Lee went 3-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 8-5 win over the Pirates.
Analysis: Lee set a new season high with three hits and also set a season high by reaching base five times. The rookie infielder hasn't quite found an everyday role with the Tigers, but he's performed well when given an opportunity with a .275 batting average and .737 OPS. If Detroit falls out of playoff contention down the stretch, Lee could see his role grow if the team prioritizes its younger players.
