Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Taking seat Saturday
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 2:34 PM
Torres isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds.
Analysis: Torres will get a breather Saturday following a stretch of 12 straight starts, during which he slashed .250/.389/.273 with three RBI and five runs scored. His absence will move Javier Baez into the keystone and give Matt Vierling a start in center field.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Hits second home run in loss
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:50 AM
Baez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Baez launched his second home run of the season in the third inning against Cincinnati lefty Andrew Abbott. The veteran utility player continues to see regular playing time split between the middle infield and center field. While Baez's power production is down from earlier in his career, he is at least making solid contact with a .278 batting average, which would be his best mark since 2019.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Enters contest, goes deep in loss
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:44 AM
Carpenter went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Carpenter began this game on the bench, with Jahmai Jones getting the start to face Cincinnati lefty Andrew Abbott. The Tigers turned to Carpenter as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, and he ultimately launched his sixth home run of the season in the eighth. The 28-year-old outfielder is once again providing good pop with an .821 OPS through 24 games, and he's currently on pace to surpass last year's career-high total of 26 home runs if he stays healthy.
Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen Blows second save Friday
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:42 AM
Jansen (0-1) blew the save and took the loss Friday as the Tigers fell 9-8 to the Reds, giving up two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.
Analysis: The two teams took turns putting runs on the board in every inning except the first, and jansen couldn't break that pattern in the ninth while trying to protect an 8-7 lead, allowing a two-out single to Spencer Steer before Nathaniel Lowe belted a walk-off homer. It was jansen's second blown save of the year, but those are the only two times he's been scored upon in nine appearances so far in 2026. On the season, the veteran closer sports a 3.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB in 7.1 innings with six saves.
Riley Greene
Riley Greene Homers again Friday
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:40 AM
Greene went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Greene went deep for the second straight game and third time this season. While his power production is below last year's pace, when he homered 36 times during the regular season, Greene is still off to a good start at the plate overall. The outfielder is slashing .295/.396/.474 through 27 games. The batting average and on-base percentage would be new career bests for Greene, as would his .870 OPS.
Framber Valdez
Framber Valdez Battles control in no-decision
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:37 AM
Valdez didn't factor into the decision Friday as the Tigers were downed 9-8 by the Reds, giving up two runs on four hits and five walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: The southpaw got only 47 of his 89 pitches into the strike zone before getting the hook. The five free passes were a season high, but Valdez has issued multiple walks in five straight starts. On the season he sports a 3.41 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB through 34.1 innings, and he faced a tough test in his next outing, scheduled to come on the road next week in Atlanta.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Extends home run streak
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:36 AM
Torkelson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Torkelson has now homered in three straight contests after not going deep across the first 23 games of the season. The slugger is riding a four-game hitting streak overall, going 5-for-14 with a 1.509 OPS during the surge. Torkelson's overall numbers are still a bit below his usual standards, but he's quickly getting back on track after a slow start to the year.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Goes deep again Thursday
Thu, Apr 23, 2026, 5:39 PM
Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.
Analysis: Torkelson went without a home run for his first 23 games of the season, but he's now gone deep on consecutive days. The slugger also struck out two more times Thursday, and his strikeout rate is now a tick below 30 percent. Torkelson has always been known as player with plenty of swing-and-miss in his game who can also hit homers in bunches, and that seems to be the case once again in 2026.
Riley Greene
Riley Greene Hits second home run in win
Thu, Apr 23, 2026, 5:32 PM
Greene went 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.
Analysis: Greene got the scoring started for the Tigers in the first inning with his second home run of the season with a runner on and two outs. The outfielder has a strong .289/.396/.444 slash line, though his power production has been lagging after he popped 36 long balls during the 2025 regular season. Greene did say he was focusing on improved contact in spring training after striking out a team-record 201 times last year, and it's possible that he's trading in some homers for a better batting average and on-base percentage.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Stumbles in the seventh
Thu, Apr 23, 2026, 3:29 PM
Skubal did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Brewers. He allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out five over six innings.
Analysis: Skubal held Milwaukee to just one run in his first six innings but he'd run into trouble in the seventh, where he allowed three straight hits without recording an out. It's just the second time this season that Skubal's given up more than one earned run in a start. His ERA sits at 2.72 with a 0.99 WHIP and 38:6 K:BB across six outings (36.1 innings). Skubal tentatively lines up to face Atlanta on the road his next time out.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Feels good after latest bullpen
Thu, Apr 23, 2026, 11:57 AM
Manager A.J. Hinch said Verlander's (hip) bullpen session Wednesday was "encouraging," Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: "I think the last time I tried to really step on it, I don't want to say it was a full step back, but it didn't respond the way I wanted or that anybody wanted," Verlander said. "So that was disappointing. After yesterday, it didn't do that, which is good. It's taken a little longer than I think we expected, which is frustrating." Verlander has missed his last four turns through the rotation due to inflammation in his left hip, and it hasn't responded the way he'd hoped after he was initially believed to require only a minimum stint on the injured list. Verlander is expected to need at least one more bullpen session and a rehab start before making his return to Detroit's rotation.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Punches out seven in second win
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 9:32 PM
Mize (2-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Brewers, allowing one run on three hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: Mize was outstanding Wednesday, scattering three singles over six strong frames. Not only is the right-hander already up to three quality starts in 2026, but he's also worked at least 5.2 innings while giving up one run or zero in four of his five outings to begin the season. Mize is pushing his way into must-roster fantasy territory, producing an impressive 2.51 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB over 28.2 frames, but he does have a tough test in Atlanta on tap for his next start.
Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen Secures save despite shaky outing
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:40 PM
Jansen worked around a hit and two walks to pitch a scoreless inning of relief and secure the save in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Brewers. He struck out one.
Analysis: Jansen was probably lucky to have a three-run lead, as he got some traffic on the bases in the ninth inning, but he ultimately shut things down for his sixth save of the year in seven chances. The veteran reliever has a sparkling 1.35 ERA and has struck out eight batters across 6.2 innings so far. Even at the age of 38, Jansen continues to look like an effective MLB closer, and the Tigers seem comfortable with him in that role moving forward.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Tees off in win
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:35 PM
Carpenter went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Brewers.
Analysis: Carpenter launched his fifth home run of the season in the eighth inning, and he's starting to heat up after a slow start to the year. The 28-year-old has three long balls across his last eight games, and he's batting .263 during the stretch. Carpenter was batting just .200 with two home runs in 14 games before the recent power surge. He hit a career-high 26 homers during the 2025 regular season, and the outfielder remains a great offensive threat against right-handed pitching.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Hits first 2026 home run
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 8:30 PM
Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Brewers.
Analysis: Torkelson finally hit his first home run of the year in his 24th game, taking Chad Patrick deep in the fourth inning with a runner on. The slugger had 31 long balls during the 2025 regular season, so he'll need to really heat up to get back on last year's pace. It's been a struggle for Torkelson overall, as he's only batting .189 with a .603 OPS, but his ability to hit homers in bunches should keep his bat in the lineup as he works through the slow start.
Bailey Horn
Bailey Horn Transferred to 60-day IL
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 3:32 PM
The Tigers transferred Horn (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Horn is coming back from offseason arthroscopic left elbow surgery and had to be pulled off his rehab assignment last week because of a setback. It's not clear where Horn's rehab currently stands, but the reliever now won't be eligible for activation until late May.
Burch Smith
Burch Smith Contract selected
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 2:31 PM
The Tigers selected Smith's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Smith was off to a terrific start with Toledo, yielding two runs with a 16:0 K:BB over 10 innings. The 36-year-old will give the Tigers a fresh bullpen arm and will be making his first major-league appearance since 2024 when/if he gets into a game.
Enmanuel De Jesus
Enmanuel De Jesus Optioned to Triple-A
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 2:28 PM
The Tigers optioned De Jesus to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: De Jesus was hammered for seven runs (five earned) while throwing 49 pitches over 1.1 innings during an ugly relief outing Tuesday versus the Brewers. He will be replaced on the roster and in the bullpen by Burch Smith.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Opening Wednesday's game on bench
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 2:27 PM
Keith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Analysis: Though the left-handed-hitting Keith will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench, he could check in once lefty DL Hall -- who is opening the game for the Brewers -- is lifted from the game. Jahmai Jones will pick up a start at designated hitter in place of Keith.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Receiving evening off
Wed, Apr 22, 2026, 2:22 PM
Dingler is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Analysis: Despite going hitless in nine at-bats over his last two starts, Dingler still ranks fourth among all qualified catchers this season with an .873 OPS. He'll get a chance to catch his breath Wednesday, paving the way for Jake Rogers to receive a turn behind the plate.
