Keider Montero
Keider Montero Goes seven in no-decision
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 7:55 PM
Montero didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the White Sox, allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Montero was sharp in his return to the Tigers' rotation, as he held Chicago scoreless for five innings before giving up a two-run homer to Luisangel Acuna in the sixth inning and another run in the seventh. Montero's ERA now sits at 3.68 through 80.2 innings this season with a 1.00 WHIP and 53:17 K:BB. He figures to remain in the rotation going forward, with Justin Verlander (hamstring) expected to be sidelined for a while. Montero is tentatively lined up to face the Astros at home his next time out.
Will Vest
Will Vest Picks up win in relief Sunday
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 3:47 PM
Vest (3-4) allowed an unearned run in an inning of work to record the win in Sunday's 5-4, 10-inning victory over the White Sox.
Analysis: Vest was tasked with working the top of the 10th inning, and he allowed the automatic runner on second to score on a couple of long fly ball outs but otherwise shut the door. The veteran reliever then earned the win when the Tigers answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. After allowing five runs in an appearance back on May 26, Vest has been pretty good, posting a 2.16 ERA across 8.1 innings, and he's now down to a 5.92 ERA for the season following a rough patch earlier in the year.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Lifts off again Sunday
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 3:39 PM
Dingler went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two total RBI in Sunday's 5-4, 10-inning win over the White Sox.
Analysis: Dingler went deep for the second straight day, and he's now up to 18 long balls on the season. That's the most on the team and third in the majors among catchers, behind only Shea Langeliers with 19 home runs and Hunter Goodman with 21. Dingler has been a dynamic offensive force as the undisputed top backstop for Detroit, with Jake Rogers in a clear reserve role that carries limited fantasy value.
Hao-Yu Lee
Hao-Yu Lee Sitting after four straight starts
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 10:41 AM
Lee is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.
Analysis: Lee will retreat to the bench for the series finale after he went 3-for-13 with a double, an RBI and a run while starting at second base over the past four games. The Tigers will go with Zach McKinstry at the keystone Sunday, but McKinstry can be moved around to other spots on the diamond or in the corner outfield if manager A.J. Hinch is keen on keeping Lee in the lineup on a regular basis while Gleyber Torres (oblique) is on the shelf.
Matt Vierling
Matt Vierling Taking seat Sunday
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 10:39 AM
Vierling is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.
Analysis: Vierling had covered center field in each of the last three games, but he'll give way to James Outman in the series finale. Though Vierling will likely be prioritized in the lineup ahead of Outman against left-handed pitching, manager A.J. Hinch could lean on the hotter bat among the two players when the Tigers face righties. Since the start of June, Vierling has produced a lowly .143/.162/.314 slash line.
James Outman
James Outman Tallies two hits, stolen base
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 8:24 AM
Outman went 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 win over the White Sox.
Analysis: He came on as a defensive replacement after Jahmai Jones pinch hit for Kerry Carpenter in the fourth inning. Outman recorded his first multi-hit effort since joining the Tigers about 10 days ago as well as his first stolen base. The 29-year-old is seeing some run for the team, though he hasn't established a regular starting role and is still mostly off the fantasy radar due to his .173/.244/.293 slash line this season.
Tyler Holton
Tyler Holton Records seventh hold
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 8:18 AM
Holton tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn a hold in Saturday's 4-1 win over the White Sox. He allowed two hits ans struck out two.
Analysis: The southpaw was an effective bridge between starter Troy Melton, who allowed just one run across six solid innings, and closer Kenley Jansen. Holton lowered his ERA to 3.60 and earned his seventh hold of the season, which is tied for second on the team behind Kyle Finnegan's nine. Like he's done the past three years, Holton has been a trusted reliever for the Tigers who's capable of providing multiple innings.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Stays hot in Saturday's win
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 9:00 PM
Dingler went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 4-1 win over the White Sox.
Analysis: Getting the start at DH to keep his red-hot bat in the lineup, Dingler came through with an RBI single in the fifth inning to get Detroit on the board before he wrapped up the scoring with a solo shot off Trevor Richards in the seventh. Dingler has six multi-hit performances in the last 10 games, a stretch in which he's hitting a blistering .429 (18-for-42) with seven extra-base hits including three homers, along with nine RBI and 10 runs.
Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen Notches ninth save
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 8:56 PM
Jansen gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his ninth save of the season in a 4-1 win over the White Sox. He failed to strike out a batter.
Analysis: The veteran closer made things interesting by allowing the tying run to come to the plate with two outs, but Jansen got Drew Romo to fly out to center field to end the contest. Despite missing a couple weeks due to a a pelvic issue, Jansen's been locked in since the beginning of May, getting scored upon in only one of his last 11 appearances while posting a 2.53 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB in 10.2 innings.
Troy Melton
Troy Melton Sharp in fourth win
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 8:52 PM
Melton (4-0) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on one hit and three walks over six innings in a 4-1 victory over the White Sox. He struck out five.
Analysis: Sam Antonacci led off the game with a solo shot, and it proved to be the only hit Melton would give up over 84 pitches (46 strikes). The quality start was the right-hander's third in five trips to the mound since being activated from the IL in late May, and his spot in the rotation seems secure while Jack Flaherty (ankle) and Justin Verlander (hamstring) remain sidelined. Melton will take a 2.56 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB through 31.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Astros.
Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen Nails down eighth save
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 8:10 AM
Jansen tossed a scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout to earn the save in Friday's 4-3 win over the White Sox.
Analysis: Jansen needed only 10 pitches to put Chicago down in order and secure his eighth save of the season in 12 chances. The veteran righty has now made two scoreless appearances with three strikeouts since returning from a brief stint on the injured list due to right pelvic inflammation. It looks like the reset helped get Jansen back on track after a rough patch earlier in the year, and he should remain locked in as Detroit's closer.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Records no-decision Friday
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 8:05 AM
Skubal allowed three runs on seven hits across 5.2 innings and did not factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 win over the White Sox. He walked one and struck out eight.
Analysis: It wasn't a typically dominant Skubal performance in his second game back after being on the injured list since the end of April. In those two starts, the star lefty has allowed six runs (five earned) across 10.1 innings while striking out 12, and he's now sitting with a 3.02 ERA and 9.6 K/9 through his first nine appearances this year. Home runs were the culprit Friday, as Skubal served up solo shots in the first and sixth innings to put sour bookends on his night. He'll look for more of his usual ace performance his next time out, which is currently scheduled for Wednesday against the Yankees at home.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Three more hits in win
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 7:58 AM
Dingler went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Friday's 4-3 win over the White Sox.
Analysis: Dingler continued his scorching-hot June with another multi-hit performance, his sixth in his last 10 games. In 15 contests overall this month, the Detroit backstop is slashing .377/.403/.738 with five home runs, 15 runs scored and 17 RBI. The strong start to the season has established Dingler as one of the top catchers for fantasy leagues.
Matt Vierling
Matt Vierling Homers in win
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 7:53 AM
Vierling went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 4-3 win over the White Sox.
Analysis: Vierling got the scoring started for Detroit with a first-inning home run, his fifth of the season. The veteran has seen his playing time trend downward this month as the Tigers have tried using more players in center field. Vierling is versatile enough to pick up starts elsewhere in the field, but he'll need to improve upon his .201 batting average and .608 OPS to remain in the lineup most days.
Trei Cruz
Trei Cruz Added to MLB roster
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:38 PM
The Tigers called up Cruz from Triple-A Toledo, and he is starting in right field and batting ninth Friday against the White Sox, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: It will be the MLB debut for the 27-year-old Cruz, who is replacing Wenceel Perez (face) on the active roster. Cruz has a .228/.326/.333 slash line with two homers in 33 games at Toledo this year and is likely to operate primarily as a reserve outfielder while up in the majors.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Moved to IL
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:20 PM
The Tigers placed Perez on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left orbital fracture, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The outfielder was injured in the weight room earlier this week when a plyometric band struck him in the face, causing the fracture. It's unclear how long Perez is expected to be sidelined. Trei Cruz was called up in a corresponding move Friday.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Slated for bullpen session
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:14 PM
Flaherty (ankle) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It appears to be the first time the right-hander has thrown off the mound since he landed on the injured list last week with a left peroneal strain. Flaherty is first eligible to return June 28, and he has a chance to make it back by then or shortly thereafter.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Receives cortisone injection
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:12 PM
Torres (oblique) received a cortisone injection Friday and is expected to start up his rehab program in the next day or two, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: The veteran second baseman was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to an oblique strain, and he won't waste much time before getting treatment. Torres was sidelined more than a month with the same injury earlier this season, though it's unclear how long he's expected to be out this time around.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Re-entering rotation Sunday
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:08 PM
Montero will start Sunday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Justin Verlander (hip/hamstring) had been slated to return from the injured list to start Sunday's game, but he encountered a setback. Montero made a relief appearance Tuesday versus the Astros, but his other 13 outings this season have been starts. He's collected a 3.67 ERA and 50:17 K:BB over 73.2 frames this season. Verlander is expected to miss multiple weeks, so Montero is likely to get multiple turns in the Detroit rotation.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Scratched from Sunday's start
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:02 PM
Verlander (hip) has been scratched from a scheduled start Sunday versus the White Sox due to a left hamstring injury, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Verlander had been slated to return from a nearly three-month absence with left hip inflammation, but he encountered a setback with his hamstring during a bullpen session Wednesday. The Tigers expect the 43-year-old's recovery to last "a matter of weeks." Keider Montero will start for the Tigers on Sunday and is likely to make additional starts while Verlander recovers.
