Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:38 PM
The Tigers called up Cruz from Triple-A Toledo, and he is starting in right field and batting ninth Friday against the White Sox, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: It will be the MLB debut for the 27-year-old Cruz, who is replacing Wenceel Perez (face) on the active roster. Cruz has a .228/.326/.333 slash line with two homers in 33 games at Toledo this year and is likely to operate primarily as a reserve outfielder while up in the majors.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Moved to IL
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:20 PM
The Tigers placed Perez on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left orbital fracture, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The outfielder was injured in the weight room earlier this week when a plyometric band struck him in the face, causing the fracture. It's unclear how long Perez is expected to be sidelined. Trei Cruz was called up in a corresponding move Friday.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Slated for bullpen session
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:14 PM
Flaherty (ankle) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It appears to be the first time the right-hander has thrown off the mound since he landed on the injured list last week with a left peroneal strain. Flaherty is first eligible to return June 28, and he has a chance to make it back by then or shortly thereafter.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Receives cortisone injection
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:12 PM
Torres (oblique) received a cortisone injection Friday and is expected to start up his rehab program in the next day or two, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: The veteran second baseman was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to an oblique strain, and he won't waste much time before getting treatment. Torres was sidelined more than a month with the same injury earlier this season, though it's unclear how long he's expected to be out this time around.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Re-entering rotation Sunday
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:08 PM
Montero will start Sunday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Justin Verlander (hip/hamstring) had been slated to return from the injured list to start Sunday's game, but he encountered a setback. Montero made a relief appearance Tuesday versus the Astros, but his other 13 outings this season have been starts. He's collected a 3.67 ERA and 50:17 K:BB over 73.2 frames this season. Verlander is expected to miss multiple weeks, so Montero is likely to get multiple turns in the Detroit rotation.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Scratched from Sunday's start
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 2:02 PM
Verlander (hip) has been scratched from a scheduled start Sunday versus the White Sox due to a left hamstring injury, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Verlander had been slated to return from a nearly three-month absence with left hip inflammation, but he encountered a setback with his hamstring during a bullpen session Wednesday. The Tigers expect the 43-year-old's recovery to last "a matter of weeks." Keider Montero will start for the Tigers on Sunday and is likely to make additional starts while Verlander recovers.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Heading to injured list
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 2:42 PM
The Tigers will place Perez (face) on the 10-day injured list prior to Friday's game versus the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Perez got hurt Tuesday in a weight room incident when he was struck in the face by a plyometric band. It's unclear what specific injury he is dealing with, but it will cost him at least the next week-plus of action. Trei Cruz will absorb Perez's spot on the Detroit roster.
Trei Cruz
Trei Cruz On way to big leagues
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 2:25 PM
The Tigers are expected to recall Cruz from Triple-A Toledo, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Analysis: He will replace the injured Wenceel Perez (face) on the roster. Cruz was added to the 40-man roster over the winter, but it will be his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game. The 27-year-old is slashing just .228/.326/.333 with two home runs this season with Toledo. Cruz has experience at every position on the diamond outside of first base, catcher and pitcher.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Goes deep again Wednesday
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 4:57 PM
McGonigle went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Astros.
Analysis: McGonigle is starting to get his power stroke going, as he now has three home runs across his last nine games. Before that, the rookie infielder had three long balls in his first 72 games of the season. McGonigle was already producing plenty of fantasy value thanks to his .282 batting average and .390 on-base percentage, but the uptick in power production is adding another element to his game.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Pops 10th home run Wednesday
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 4:51 PM
Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Astros.
Analysis: The seventh inning blast for Carpenter was his 10th of the season and fourth this month across 13 games. The 30-year-old outfielder is now sporting a .946 OPS in June, and he continues to do most of his damage against righties. On the season, Carpenter has an .832 OPS in those matchups versus only a .490 OPS in limited action against southpaws.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Takes loss in return
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 3:50 PM
Mize (2-4) took the loss against the Astros on Wednesday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
Analysis: In his first start since May 27, Mize threw 52 of 86 pitches for strikes while generating eight whiffs and allowing nine hard-hit balls. While some rust was understandable, the 29-year-old handled a normal workload and saw a slight uptick in velocity across his pitch mix compared to his season averages. He owns a 2.58 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 52:13 K:BB over 52.1 innings this season and lines up for a home matchup against the Yankees next week.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Likely unavailable Wednesday
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 12:23 PM
Perez is likely unavailable off the bench for Wednesday's game in Houston after being struck in the face by a plyometric band in the weight room Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Perez is still being evaluated, but he will likely be fine by Friday following the Tigers' team off day Thursday. The switch-hitting outfielder is sporting a .594 OPS with seven home runs across 53 games for Detroit this season.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Lands on IL with oblique strain
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 11:42 AM
The Tigers placed Torres on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left oblique strain.
Analysis: Torres sustained the injury during Monday's game in Houston. He missed more than a month of action earlier this season with the same injury before returning in early June. It's unclear at this point how long he might be sidelined this time around, but it will likely be longer than a minimum absence. Hao-Yu Lee has drawn two straight starts at second base for the Tigers and could share the position with Zach McKinstry while Torres is shelved.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Comes off IL ahead of start
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 11:40 AM
The Tigers reinstated Mize (adductor) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Astros in Houston.
Analysis: Mize had been slated to return from the IL this past Sunday, but after their series finale in Cleveland was postponed, the Tigers opted to delay his activation a few more days. The right-hander will be taking the hill Wednesday for his first outing with the big club since May 27 and could be operating with a slight workload restriction after covering five innings and tossing 55 pitches in his lone minor-league rehab start last Tuesday. Prior to hitting the shelf due to right adductor inflammation, Mize went 2-3 and posted a 2.27 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 47.2 innings in his nine starts with Detroit.
Injures knee in Single-A debut
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 11:01 AM
Montilla walked in his lone plate appearance Tuesday with Single-A Lakeland before exiting the game in the second inning with an apparent knee injury, Chris Brown of TigersMLReport.com reports.
Analysis: After sustaining a torn ACL and undergoing season-ending surgery last July, Montilla opened the 2026 campaign on Lakeland's 7-day injured list. He was activated from the IL on Tuesday after completing a two-game rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League, only to have his debut with Lakeland cut short by another knee injury, which he suffered while attempting to catch a throw to second base. While the severity of his latest injury isn't yet known, the 21-year-old needed to be carted off the field and will most likely be headed back to the IL.
James Outman
James Outman Shifting to bench for series finale
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 10:47 AM
Outman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Outman drew starts in center field in the first two games of the series, but after going 0-for-6 with five strikeouts between those contests, he'll hit the bench for the finale. Matt Vierling will take Outman's spot in the Detroit outfield and will bat seventh.
Zach McKinstry
Zach McKinstry Hitting bench Wednesday
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 10:45 AM
McKinstry is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: McKinstry will get the afternoon off after he went 5-for-25 with a solo home run, four walks and four additional runs while starting seven of the Tigers' last eight games. Though he appears to have a grasp on a near-everyday role for now, McKinstry's playing time could dry up if he continues to underwhelm at the plate. He's produced a .168/.258/.245 slash line over 165 plate appearances on the season.
Jake Rogers
Jake Rogers Drawing rare start Wednesday
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 10:41 AM
Rogers will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Rogers will enter the starting nine for the series finale while the Tigers give top backstop Dillon Dingler a break from catching but keep his bat in the lineup at designated hitter. With Dingler handling one of the heavier workloads among all catchers this season, Rogers has been limited to just 68 plate appearances through Detroit's first 73 games.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Remains out of lineup
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 10:15 AM
Torres (side) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Houston.
Analysis: Torres had to exit Monday's game after tweaking his left side, and he will now miss a second straight start. The Tigers have not ruled out a potential stint on the injured list for Torres, but they will wait at least until Friday following Thursday's team off day before making an IL decision. Hao-Yu Lee will grab another start at second base in Torres' stead.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Included in Wednesday's lineup
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 10:11 AM
Keith (wrist) will start at third base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Keith was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup due to wrist soreness, but it will be just a one-game absence from the starting nine. The 24-year-old clubbed three home runs in Monday's victory in Houston.
