Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Remains productive in loss
Thu, May 14, 2026, 6:18 PM
Dingler went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 9-4 loss to the Mets.
Analysis: Dingler extended his hitting streak to four games, and he's batting .313 with two home runs during the stretch. Overall, the Detroit catcher is now up to eight long balls for the season, which puts him on pace to fly past last year's career-high total of 13 homers in 126 regular-season games. Dingler can be a bit streaky at the plate, but he's locked into a starting role and is producing in the power department for fantasy managers.
Gage Workman
Gage Workman Clubs home run Thursday
Thu, May 14, 2026, 6:14 PM
Workman went 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run home run in Thursday's 9-4 loss to the Mets.
Analysis: Making the start at second base, Workman went deep in the top of the first inning against Nolan McLean. Workman has only appeared in four games for the Tigers since getting recalled from Triple-A Toledo earlier this month, but he's already gone deep twice and is now sporting a 1.455 OPS. The 26-year-old could push for a larger role if he stays hot, though he also committed his second error of the year Thursday, and he'll need to hold his own defensively to stay on the field.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Takes third loss
Thu, May 14, 2026, 5:22 PM
Montero (2-3) took the loss Thursday against the Mets, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: Montero got off to a strong start Thursday, holding the Mets off the board through his first two innings, though he'd give up a solo homer to A.J. Ewing to lead off the third before Brett Baty added a two-run shot that tied the game in the fourth. Montero had delivered back-to-back quality starts prior to Thursday, allowing just two runs over 12.2 innings in that span. His ERA now sits at 3.65 with a 0.99 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB across eight starts (44.1 innings) this year. Montero's currently in line to face the Guardians at home in his next outing.
Matt Vierling
Matt Vierling Exiting starting lineup
Thu, May 14, 2026, 9:22 AM
Vierling is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Mets.
Analysis: Vierling had started each of the last nine games in center field, but he'll take a seat in Thursday's series finale. It will be Wenceel Perez handling center field and batting eighth as the Tigers look to avoid the sweep.
Ty Madden
Ty Madden Drawing start Friday
Thu, May 14, 2026, 8:20 AM
Madden will be the starting pitcher for Friday's game versus the Blue Jays, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Madden has been terrific in two bulk-relief outings, allowing three runs with a 12:2 K:BB over 11 frames. The top of Toronto's lineup is heavy on right-handed bats, so the right-handed Madden will work as a traditional starter Friday. Madden threw 87 pitches his last time out and will be operating on five days' rest, so he'll be available for a full workload.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Could return to start Saturday
Thu, May 14, 2026, 8:15 AM
Mize (thigh) could return from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Mize has been sidelined since late April with a right adductor strain. He has not made a rehab start, but the right-hander threw a live batting practice session earlier this week and it appears he could skip a rehab assignment. Mize was excellent in his first six outings this season before getting hurt, posting a 2.90 ERA and 35:11 K:BB over 31 innings. If Mize is able to start Saturday, he figures to be somewhat limited from a pitch-count perspective.
Framber Valdez
Framber Valdez No-decision after suspension
Wed, May 13, 2026, 9:56 PM
Valdez did not factor into Wednesday's decision against the Mets, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven across 6.2 innings.
Analysis: Valdez took to the mound Wednesday after serving a five-game suspension for throwing at Trevor Story during the Tigers' 10-3 loss to the Red Sox on May 5. Valdez limited the Mets to just one run through six innings but was tagged for another run in the seventh to no longer in line for the win. He logged 17 first-pitch strikes and generated 11 whiffs on a whopping 106 pitches, the first time he's cracked the century mark this season. It was the sixth quality start of the season for Valdez, who has a 4.32 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 42:17 K:BB across 50 innings. He's lined up to face the Guardians at home next week.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Swipes another base in loss
Wed, May 13, 2026, 9:33 PM
McGonigle went 1-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Mets.
Analysis: While Detroit has been scuffling a bit at 19-24, McGonigle has been a bright spot for the Tigers all year long. The rookie is now batting .301 with an .853 OPS, and he's stolen a base in consecutive games to get to seven steals overall in seven attempts. McGonigle is making a strong push for AL Rookie of the Year honors, though Chicago's Munetaka Murakami is also very much in the mix.
Riley Greene
Riley Greene Records three hits Wednesday
Wed, May 13, 2026, 9:27 PM
Greene went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Wednesday's 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Mets.
Analysis: Greene provided all of Detroit's offense with a two-run single in the top of the first inning. The star outfielder then tallied two more hits to notch his third three-hit effort of the season. Greene has been excellent with a .325/.419/.487 slash line through 43 games, and he should continue to be the main offensive weapon for the Tigers, giving him plenty of fantasy utility moving forward.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Two more hits Wednesday
Wed, May 13, 2026, 9:23 PM
Dingler went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Mets.
Analysis: A day after slugging his seventh home run of the season, Dingler tallied two more hits to extend his hitting streak to three games. It's a small step in the right direction for the catcher, who was batting .302 after a four-hit effort back on April 19. Since then, Dingler is batting just .186 across 18 games, but he's in no real danger of losing his starting gig to Jake Rogers and his .478 OPS.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Slugs seventh homer Tuesday
Tue, May 12, 2026, 10:44 PM
Dingler went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 10-2 loss to the Mets.
Analysis: Dingler opened the scoring in the second inning by taking Freddy Peralta deep for his seventh homer of the season. The catcher had dropped off significantly after a strong start to the year, entering Tuesday batting just .161 with a 4:14 BB:K over his previous 16 games. Even with the recent struggles, Dingler still owns a solid .234/.305/.461 slash line with eight doubles, 27 RBI and 14 runs scored across 141 plate appearances.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Struggles continue vs. Mets
Tue, May 12, 2026, 10:21 PM
Flaherty (0-4) took the loss Tuesday against the Mets, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings.
Analysis: Flaherty labored throughout the outing, needing 97 pitches to record just 11 outs, including 53 pitches over the first two innings alone. The veteran right-hander has struggled badly to work deep into games lately, failing to complete four innings in four of his last five starts. During that stretch, he has surrendered 15 earned runs across 17.2 innings while battling inconsistent command. Flaherty now owns a 5.73 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 44:29 K:BB across 37.2 innings and will seek to record his first win in his next scheduled start, against Toronto.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Faces hitters Monday
Tue, May 12, 2026, 6:55 PM
Mize (thigh) threw live batting practice Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Mize began throwing bullpen sessions over the weekend, and his quick return to facing live hitters keeps him on track for a brief stay on the injured list. The 29-year-old righty will be eligible to return from his right calf strain Thursday.
Will Vest
Will Vest Throwing off mound
Tue, May 12, 2026, 6:52 PM
Vest (forearm) threw a bullpen session Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It was the first time Vest had thrown off a mound since landing on the injured list May 2 with forearm inflammation. He'll be eligible to return from the IL on Thursday, though he's likely to throw a few additional bullpen and live batting practice sessions before being activated.
Nick Sandlin
Nick Sandlin Goes to Tigers on MiLB deal
Tue, May 12, 2026, 10:40 AM
The Tigers signed Sandlin to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Sandlin become a free agent last week after struggling in 8.2 innings of relief for the Angels with an 11.42 ERA and 1.62 WHIP. The right-hander entered this season with a career 3.19 ERA and 27.3 percent strikeout rate, so he's a sensible addition in hopes that he can right the ship. Sandlin is likely headed to Triple-A Toledo.
Connor Seabold
Connor Seabold Starts up rehab assignment
Mon, May 11, 2026, 11:17 AM
Seabold (ankle) struck out two and gave up one hit and no walks over a scoreless inning in his rehab appearance Friday with Single-A Lakeland.
Analysis: The Tigers placed Seabold on the 15-day injured list April 26 due to left ankle inflammation, but he shouldn't require an extended rehab assignment before making his return from the shelf. The right-hander projects to serve as a multi-inning option out of the Detroit bullpen once he's activated.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Shifts to 60-day IL
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:58 PM
The Tigers transferred Verlander to the 60-day injured list Sunday.
Analysis: The 43-year-old progressed to facing live batters Saturday as he continues to work his way back from hip inflammation, which sent him to the IL after his season debut March 30. Verlander was already likely to require a few rehab starts in the minors before rejoining Detroit's rotation, so the move to the 60-day IL likely doesn't affect his return timeline much. He'll be eligible to come off the IL at the start of June.
Gage Workman
Gage Workman Added to big-league roster
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:54 PM
The Tigers selected Workman's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
Analysis: Workman has spent most of his career in the Tigers organization, but he briefly saw big-league action in 2025 with the Cubs and White Sox as a Rule 5 Draft pick before he was returned to Detroit in May. He now looks poised to see MLB action with the Tigers for the first time after the team called him up as a replacement on the roster for outfielder Kerry Carpenter (shoulder), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. Workman has posted a 1.003 OPS with four home runs and 12 stolen bases over 35 games with Toledo this season while seeing time at second base, third base and shortstop. He hasn't played the outfield in 2026, but he made double-digit starts at all three spots with Toledo a season ago.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Out with AC joint sprain
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:40 PM
The Tigers placed Carpenter on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.
Analysis: The 29-year-old sustained the injury Saturday against the Royals on a collision with the outfield wall, and he'll be out for at least the next week and a half as a result. Gage Workman was called up from Triple-A Toledo to take Carpenter's place on Detroit's 26-man active roster.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Taking seat against lefty
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:27 PM
Keith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: Keith will hit the bench for the second time in the series while the Royals send another southpaw (Noah Cameron) to the hill. Zack Short will serve as Keith's replacement on the left side of the Detroit infield, covering shortstop while Kevin McGonigle shifts over to third base.
