Tanner Rainey
Tanner Rainey Designated for assignment
Tue, Nov 18, 2025, 6:18 PM
Rainey was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Rainey's relevance in the fantasy world was fleeting, as he quickly fell off the map after the 2020 season. He has bounced from Washington to Pittsburgh to Detroit in recent years while mostly struggling on the mound. He pitched to an ugly 11.17 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 9.2 major-league innings in 2025.
Jack Little
Jack Little Designated for assignment
Tue, Nov 18, 2025, 6:10 PM
Little was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Claimed off waivers from the Pirates earlier this month, Little ended up spending less than two weeks on the Tigers' 40-man roster. Little will now be subjected to waivers once again after spending the 2025 season primarily at the Triple-A level, making just a pair of relief appearances with the Dodgers over the summer.
Sean Guenther
Sean Guenther Dumped from 40-man roster
Tue, Nov 18, 2025, 6:07 PM
Guenther (hip) was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Left hip surgery ended Guenther's season in early July after he made nine appearances (one start) with the big-league club over the first two months of the campaign. The left-hander put an impressive 0.86 ERA and 0.52 WHIP in 21 innings out of the Detroit bullpen during the 2024 regular season, and that run of success may be enough to land him on another team's 40-man roster.
Jason Foley
Jason Foley Scrubbed from 40-man roster
Tue, Nov 18, 2025, 6:00 PM
The Tigers designated Foley (shoulder) for assignment Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Widely considered the favorite to close for Detroit entering 2025 spring training, Foley didn't even end up making it to Opening Day, with the Tigers choosing instead to send him to Triple-A Toledo. A right shoulder strain then put Foley on the injured list just weeks into the campaign, leading to season-ending arthroscopic surgery in May. While Foley resumed throwing before the end of the regular season, his status for the start of the 2026 season is uncertain.
Dugan Darnell
Dugan Darnell Removed from 40-man roster
Tue, Nov 18, 2025, 5:55 PM
Darnell (hip) was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Darnell received his first big-league call-up in August and made nine appearances with the Rockies before landing on the injured list with left hip inflammation. Surgery was deemed necessary, and Darnell has since jumped to Pittsburgh and Detroit on waivers. He will be subjected to the waiver process once again after being DFA'd.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Back with Tigers after taking QO
Tue, Nov 18, 2025, 2:58 PM
Torres (groin) accepted the Tigers' one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Torres decided against testing out the free-agent market, instead choosing to take a sizable raise after he made $15 million in 2025. The 29-year-old slashed .256/.358/.387 with 16 home runs, 79 runs and 74 RBI during the 2025 regular season, though he struggled in the second half while playing through a sports hernia. Torres had hernia surgery in October and is expected to be ready in time for spring training.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Wins second AL Cy Young Award
Wed, Nov 12, 2025, 6:45 PM
Skubal was named the 2025 American League Cy Young Award winner Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The 28-year-old lefty didn't receive all 30 first-place votes like he did in 2024, as four went to Garrett Crochet, but Skubal will take home Cy Young Award honors for the second consecutive season nonetheless. His 2.21 ERA and 0.89 WHIP during the regular season both represented career-best marks, as did his 241 strikeouts and 195.1 innings.
Dugan Darnell
Dugan Darnell Claimed by Detroit
Wed, Nov 12, 2025, 2:19 PM
The Tigers claimed Darnell (hip) off waivers from the Pirates on Wednesday.
Analysis: Darnell spent most of the 2025 season at Triple-A Albuquerque in the Rockies organization, holding a 3.19 ERA and 63:19 K:BB over 53.2 innings. He had surgery in September to repair a torn labrum in his left hip, but the Tigers appear confident in his ability to make a full recovery.
Alex Lange
Alex Lange Scrubbed from 40-man roster
Wed, Nov 12, 2025, 2:14 PM
The Tigers designated Lange for assignment Wednesday.
Analysis: The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Dugan Darnell (hip). Lange recorded 26 saves for the Tigers in 2023 but was limited the last two seasons due to June 2024 right lat surgery. The 30-year-old has a career 27.2 percent strikeout rate but also a 13.5 percent walk rate. Lange is eligible for salary arbitration for the first time this offseason and should draw interest on waivers.
Jack Little
Jack Little Claimed by Tigers
Thu, Nov 6, 2025, 3:06 PM
The Tigers claimed Little off waivers from the Pirates on Thursday.
Analysis: Little went from the Dodgers to the Pirates via waivers in August but never made an appearance in Pittsburgh. The 27-year-old allowed two runs in three innings with the Dodgers in 2025 and held a 4.06 ERA and 53:22 K:BB over 62 frames at the Triple-A level.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Staying in Detroit
Tue, Nov 4, 2025, 4:06 PM
Flaherty will remain with the Tigers after electing not to opt out of his $20 million contract for 2026, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Flaherty surely could have received more guaranteed money on the open market, but he has decided to stay put following an up-and-down 2025 campaign. The right-hander posted a 4.64 ERA across 31 regular-season starts for the Tigers, but he also fanned 188 batters over 161 innings. Staying at Comerica Park and having what should be a solid offense backing him is good news for Flaherty's fantasy value in 2026.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Undergoes sports hernia surgery
Fri, Oct 31, 2025, 1:34 PM
Torres underwent surgery Friday to repair a sports hernia on his left side, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Torres played through the injury for the final month of the regular season and playoffs, and the operation was anticipated. The expectation is that Torres will be cleared for baseball activities in four weeks, which would give him plenty of time to gear up for spring training. Torres is an impending free agent after slashing .256/.358/.387 with 16 home runs and an 85:101 BB:K over 145 regular-season contests for the Tigers.
Tomas Nido
Tomas Nido Back with Tigers on MiLB pact
Thu, Oct 30, 2025, 11:17 AM
The Tigers re-signed Nido to a minor-league contract Thursday with an invitation to spring training.
Analysis: Nido finished the 2025 season with the Tigers after stops with the Mets and Cubs. A career .215/.249/.310 hitter over parts of nine big-league seasons, the 31-year-old Nido is slated to begin the 2026 season as experienced catching depth at Triple-A Toledo.
Troy Melton
Troy Melton Projected to be in 2026 rotation
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 9:56 AM
Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris and manager A.J. Hinch said at their end-of-the-season press conference Monday that Melton will be a starting pitcher next season, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Melton bounced back-and-forth between the rotation and bullpen for the Tigers in 2025 both in the regular and postseason and was impressive in both roles, collecting a 2.76 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 36:15 K:BB over 45.2 regular-season frames. The 24-year-old has been a starting pitcher throughout the minors and held a 2.99 ERA and 101:20 K:BB across 75.1 innings between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo this season. Melton is currently projected to open the 2026 campaign in the Tigers' rotation.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Slated for sports hernia surgery
Sat, Oct 11, 2025, 9:19 AM
Torres said after Friday's loss to Seattle that he plans to undergo sports hernia surgery in the offseason, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Torres added that he has been playing through the injury for multiple months, which helps to explain why he slashed .223/.320/.339 during the second half of the season after entering the All-Star break with an .812 OPS. His procedure isn't expected to affect his availability for the start of the 2026 campaign, so it also shouldn't interfere with the interest he receives in free agency this winter.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Fans 13 in ALDS finale
Sat, Oct 11, 2025, 8:32 AM
Skubal didn't factor into the decision in Game 5 of the ALDS against the Mariners on Friday, giving up one earned run on two hits while striking out 13 batters across six innings. He did not issue a walk.
Analysis: Outside of a second-inning double from Josh Naylor, which later resulted in a run, the Mariners were helpless to get any sort of offense going against Skubal. By striking out 13 batters Friday, the 28-year-old lefty tied the MLB record for most punchouts with no walks in a postseason game, and he became the first pitcher in MLB history to record multiple 13-strikeout performances in the same postseason. The Tigers were unable to come away with the win after 15 innings, however, so Skubal will now shift his focus to next season and is likely to repeat as one of the top fantasy performers in the sport in 2026.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Fades into reserve role
Wed, Oct 8, 2025, 11:22 AM
Perez is out of the lineup Wednesday for Game 4 of the ALDS versus the Mariners.
Analysis: Since returning from the injured list in late May, Perez had served as a near-everyday player for the Tigers through the end of the regular season and during the wild-card round series victory over the Guardians, but he's moved into a reserve role for the ALDS. With Detroit welcoming Colt Keith back from a rib injury that kept him out of the wild-card round, Perez has found himself as the odd man out of the lineup for each of the first four games of the series with Seattle. Keith will once again serve as the Tigers' designated hitter Wednesday, which will result in Kerry Carpenter displacing Perez in right field.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Strikes out nine in no-decision
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 9:17 AM
Skubal permitted two runs on five hits and one walk over seven innings in a no-decision Sunday in Seattle. He struck out nine.
Analysis: Jorge Polanco proved to be Skubal's kryptonite, taking the left-hander deep with solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The Mariners didn't get anything going off Skubal aside from Polanco's exploits, and the southpaw was handed a no-decision after the Tigers rallied to tie the game in the top of the eighth. Skubal has given up a total of three runs while fanning 23 batters over 14.2 frames in his two starts this postseason. He's lined up to start Game 5 of the ALDS, if the series goes the distance.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Starting Game 4, if needed
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 4:49 PM
Mize will draw the start on the mound in Wednesday's Game 4 matchup with Seattle, if needed, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Mize will toe the rubber for the second time in the postseason if the Tigers' series against Seattle in the ALDS reaches a Game 4 on Wednesday. The right-hander pitched three innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out a batter in the team's 6-1 loss to the Guardians in Game 2 of the wild-card round. Mize will look to last longer in his next outing, whether it comes Wednesday or later down the road in the playoffs.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Lined up to start Game 3
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 4:42 PM
Flaherty is expected to draw the start on the mound in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Mariners on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Flaherty will be back on the mound when the team returns to Detroit, looking to build off of his last outing in Game 3 of the Tigers' wild-card round series versus Cleveland. The right-hander tossed 4.2 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four batters against the Guardians. Flaherty drew one start versus the Mariners during the regular season, pitching five innings and surrendering two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters July 13.
