Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Stung by long ball in loss
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 10:34 PM
Skubal (3-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing four runs on four hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out nine.
Analysis: The Yankees made the most out of their hits, taking Skubal deep three times Wednesday. The All-Star left-hander served up a trio of home runs for the sixth time in his career, and he's now given up six homers in his last three starts since coming off the injured list after surrendering only two in his first seven outings of 2026. Skubal will be trying to right the ship when he brings a 3.32 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 66:8 K:BB over 59.2 innings into a scheduled rematch with the Yankees, this time in New York.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Reaches, scores twice in loss
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 8:25 PM
Torkelson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: Torkelson made an impact without going deep as he provided all of Detroit's offense against Ryan Weathers and three New York relievers. The slugging first baseman is still very much a boom-or-bust option who's batting only .203 in 20 games this month and .211 for the season. While it wasn't the case Wednesday, Torkelson often needs to leave the yard to offer fantasy value because he doesn't make consistent contact at the plate.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty On track to return Sunday
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 3:03 PM
Flaherty (ankle) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday against the Astros, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Flaherty was sharp in his rehab start with Double-A Erie on Tuesday, striking out seven while holding the opposition to two runs over 5.2 frames. He got his pitch count up to 83, so Flaherty should be prepared for a relatively normal workload Sunday. With Keider Montero pitching well, the Tigers could stick with a six-man rotation once Flaherty returns, at least for one turn.
Jahmai Jones
Jahmai Jones Not starting against lefty
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 2:45 PM
Jones is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Though he's on the Tigers' roster primarily as a specialist against left-handed pitching, Jones will be on the bench Wednesday for a matchup with Yankees southpaw Ryan Weathers. Jones has failed to live up to his billing as a lefty masher thus far in 2026, slashing .162/.253/.270 with a 28.9 percent strikeout rate over 83 plate appearances. The 28-year-old is likely on a tight leash and could soon be in danger of being designated for assignment.
James Outman
James Outman Taking seat versus lefty
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 2:40 PM
Outman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Though Matt Vierling will get the call in center field for the second straight game while the Tigers go up against another lefty (Ryan Weathers), Outman may have moved into the strong side of a platoon at the position. Outman started over Vierling in the Tigers' last two matchups with righties and has gone 3-for-16 with a home run, a stolen base and a 2:10 BB:K overall since joining Detroit earlier this month as a waiver pickup from Minnesota.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Idle versus lefty
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 2:36 PM
Keith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Keith will be on the bench for the second day in a row while the Yankees send another lefty starter (Ryan Weathers) to the bump. Keith has logged just 13 plate appearances versus lefties all season, reaching base on only two occasions.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Sitting against southpaw again
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 2:34 PM
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Carpenter will be on the bench for the second day in a row while the Yankees send another lefty starter (Ryan Weathers) to the bump. Ben Malgeri will fill in for Carpenter in right field once again after going 2-for-3 with a run scored in his MLB debut Tuesday.
Ben Malgeri Two hits in big-league debut
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 8:29 AM
Malgeri went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: The 26-year-old got the start in right field and batted ninth in his big-league debut, and Malgeri seized the opportunity by singling in his first MLB plate appearance before coming around to score. Tuesday's start came against southpaw Carlos Rodon, and Malgeri is likely to find himself filling a short-side platoon role in Detroit's lefty-heavy outfield while he's up with the big club.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Fans six in Tuesday's loss
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 8:24 AM
Mize (2-5) took the loss Tuesday as the Tigers fell 4-3 to the Yankees, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: The right-hander was nursing a 2-1 lead until running out of gas in the sixth inning, with a two-run homer by Jazz Chisholm putting New York in the lead for good. Mize was lifted after 97 pitches (65 strikes), and while he has a 9:2 K:BB in 10.1 innings over two starts since recovering from adductor inflammation, little else has been going right for him. He hasn't won a game since April 22, producing a 0-4 record over his last six big-league starts despite a 3.38 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 26:4 K:BB in 29.1 innings. Mize will try to end that winless streak in his next trip to the mound, which is set to come at home this weekend against the Astros.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Paces offense again Tuesday
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 10:51 PM
Dingler went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: Dingler had three of Detroit's eight hits as a team as he continued to lead the Tigers' offensive attack. The catcher now has 10 multi-hit efforts across 19 games this month, and he's batting a scorching .385 overall in June with seven home runs and 22 RBI. Dingler is showing no signs of slowing down in what's shaping up as a true breakout campaign for the 27=year-old.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Effective in rehab start
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 6:47 PM
Flaherty (ankle) tossed 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out seven batters in Tuesday's rehab start with Double-A Erie, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Flaherty was making the first start of his minor-league rehab assignment, and he was able to throw 83 total pitches, 58 of which were strikes. The right-hander is working his way back from a left ankle injury, and it's possible that he'll be able to return to the major-league roster when first eligible June 28.
Burch Smith
Burch Smith Heads to 60-day IL
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 1:11 PM
The Tigers transferred Smith (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.
Analysis: The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Ben Malgeri, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Toledo. Smith is in the midst of a throwing progression as he works his way back from right shoulder inflammation, but his move to the 60-day IL indicates that the Tigers weren't counting on him being ready to contribute out of the bullpen before the All-Star break. He'll be eligible for activation beginning July 21.
Trei Cruz
Trei Cruz Sent to Triple-A
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 12:48 PM
The Tigers optioned Cruz to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Analysis: Cruz was called up by Detroit on Friday and will return to the minors after going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in his first two MLB games. Ben Malgeri was promoted Tuesday to round out the Tigers' bench.
Joins big-league roster
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 12:34 PM
The Tigers selected Malgeri's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Analysis: The 26-year-old has received his first promotion to the majors after posting a .296/.401/.496 slash line through 65 games with Toledo this season. Malgeri should serve as a reserve outfielder for Detroit and could see some starts against left-handed pitching.
Framber Valdez
Framber Valdez Quiets Yankees in fourth win
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 9:45 PM
Valdez (4-5) notched the win Monday against the Yankees, allowing one run on four hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out eight.
Analysis: Valdez found himself in top form Monday, tying a season high in punchouts over six strong innings. The 31-year-old southpaw has now thrown at least five innings in eight consecutive starts, and he's also spun at least six frames while yielding two runs or fewer in nine of his 16 outings for the year. Valdez will bring a respectable 3.91 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 75:34 K:BB across 89.2 innings into his next scheduled appearance at home against the Astros.
Will Vest
Will Vest Secures save Monday
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 8:24 PM
Vest logged 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts to record the save in Monday's 5-3 win over the Yankees.
Analysis: Vest retired the last four New York hitters of the game on only 12 pitches to secure his second save of the season. Regular closer Kenley Jansen didn't pitch Sunday but did see action on Friday and Saturday, so presumably the team wanted to give the veteran some extra rest after he recently came off the injured list. That opened the door for Vest, though he should slot in as Detroit's top setup option on days when Jansen pitches. Vest has been solid in June with a 2.00 ERA and seven strikeouts across 8.2 innings in eight appearances.
Riley Greene
Riley Greene Blasts ninth home run Monday
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 8:18 PM
Greene went 1-for-2 with two walks, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-3 win over the Yankees.
Analysis: After snapping a brief 0-for-11 slump with two hits and a walk Sunday, Greene reached base three more times Monday and also recorded his ninth home run of the season. While his power production is down from last year's pace, when he blasted a career-best 36 homers in 157 regular-season contests, Greene is now sporting an .830 OPS this year, which would be a new career high.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Tallies two hits, two RBI in win
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 8:09 PM
McGonigle went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Monday's 5-3 win over the Yankees.
Analysis: As he's done all season, McGonigle helped set the table for the Tigers as the leadoff man, and he managed to extend his hitting streak to eight games in the process. The likely American League Rookie of the Year frontrunner is now slashing .285/.393/.431, and he's only struck out 42 times across 75 contests. McGonigle's ability to make consistent contact at the plate should help him avoid any prolonged slumps moving forward and keep his fantasy value elevated.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Making rehab start Tuesday
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 2:56 PM
Flaherty (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Erie on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Flaherty landed on the 15-day injured list a little over a week ago with a left peroneal strain, but he's been cleared for games after throwing a successful bullpen session over the weekend. The right-hander could require just the one rehab outing before rejoining the Detroit rotation. Flaherty has collected a 5.35 ERA and 78:34 K:BB over 65.2 innings covering 15 starts this season.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Goes seven in no-decision
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 7:55 PM
Montero didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the White Sox, allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Montero was sharp in his return to the Tigers' rotation, as he held Chicago scoreless for five innings before giving up a two-run homer to Luisangel Acuna in the sixth inning and another run in the seventh. Montero's ERA now sits at 3.68 through 80.2 innings this season with a 1.00 WHIP and 53:17 K:BB. He figures to remain in the rotation going forward, with Justin Verlander (hamstring) expected to be sidelined for a while. Montero is tentatively lined up to face the Astros at home his next time out.
