Troy Melton
Troy Melton Matches career-high mark in Ks
Sat, Jul 18, 2026, 8:45 AM
Melton didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Angels. He tossed 5.2 innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out nine.
Analysis: Melton has struck out nine in each of his last two starts, and he's been excellent of late. He's given up one or fewer runs in each of his last five starts, posting a 9:36 BB:K with a 0.92 ERA and 0.75 WHIP across 29.1 innings in that stretch. Melton, who made his first start of the season May 24 and hasn't left the rotation since, will try to keep it going in his next start, scheduled to come on the road against the Cubs.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Earns win in relief
Sat, Jul 18, 2026, 8:40 AM
Montero (6-5) earned the win in relief Friday against the Angels after tossing 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.
Analysis: Montero has posted excellent numbers in long relief since moving to the bullpen in late June. He hasn't allowed runs in four of his five appearances out of the bullpen while posting a 2.08 ERA and 4:14 BB:K across 13 innings. Montero has been a valuable arm in fantasy this season and is showing he's capable of handling a swingman role. He had a 3.34 ERA across 15 starts earlier in the year and now is up to a 2.51 ERA in six relief outings.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Taking live BP, running on tap
Fri, Jul 17, 2026, 8:47 PM
Baez (ankle) began participating in live batting practice this week and is scheduled to run the bases Saturday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Baez initially landed on the injured list in late April due to a sprained right ankle, but a setback combined with overall slow progress has caused his time on the shelf to approach the three-month mark. He'll presumably require an extended rehab assignment in the minor leagues before rejoining the Tigers, and a clearer timeline for his return to play should emerge as he increases his activity.
Brenan Hanifee
Brenan Hanifee Back in majors
Fri, Jul 17, 2026, 7:14 PM
The Tigers recalled Hanifee from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
Analysis: Hanifee owns a 3.29 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 13.2 innings with Detroit this season, but he's given up 11 earned runs in just 12 innings since being sent down to Toledo on June 12. His recent struggles in the minors will likely limit him to low-leverage work with the Tigers.
Bailey Horn
Bailey Horn Slated for TJ surgery
Fri, Jul 17, 2026, 7:07 PM
Horn (elbow) will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Horn has been on the injured list all season while working his way back from an arthroscopic procedure he underwent on his left elbow during the offseason. He was cleared to begin throwing in late May, but progress in his recovery has been slow, so he'll go under the knife once again to address the issue. He'll officially miss the entire 2026 campaign as a result, and the timing of his surgery makes it likely that he'll miss most, if not all, of the 2027 season as well.
Burch Smith
Burch Smith Cleared for rehab assignment
Fri, Jul 17, 2026, 5:54 PM
Smith (shoulder) will start a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland on Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Smith has been shelved by right shoulder inflammation since May 22 and was transferred to the 60-day injured list in late June. He's progressed enough in his recovery to embark on a rehab assignment and could be back in the majors by late July or early August. Prior to his injury, Smith posted a 3.18 ERA and 1.47 wHIP across 17 innings.
Reinstated from IL at Double-A
Fri, Jul 17, 2026, 11:00 AM
Briceno (wrist) was activated from the 60-day injured list at Double-A Erie on Friday, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reports.
Analysis: Briceno had surgery to repair a tendon in his right wrist back in March and began a rehab assignment late last month. The Tigers' top catching prospect, Briceno slashed .266/.383/.500 with 20 homers, 76 RBI, 60 runs scored and a 66:87 BB:K across 441 trips to the plate between High-A and Double-A as a 20-year-old last season.
Back in action in FCL
Thu, Jul 16, 2026, 7:25 AM
Oliveto (toe) has gone 3-for-13 with a triple, five walks, two RBI and two runs in five games since being assigned to the rookie-level Florida Complex League after being reinstated from Single-A Lakeland's injured list.
Analysis: Oliveto had already been on a rehab assignment in the FCL prior to being activated from the IL, going 8-for-37 (.216 average) with an 8:6 BB:K over 12 games. The 19-year-old catcher has shown a discerning eye at the plate through 17 total FCL games with a 20.6 percent walk rate across 63 plate appearances. He could get the chance to debut for Lakeland later on this season.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Kicks off rehab assignment
Mon, Jul 13, 2026, 3:47 PM
Torres (oblique) played five innings at second base and went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in his first rehab appearance Monday in the rookie-level Florida Complex League.
Analysis: Torres was given the green light to begin a rehab assignment after he completed a running, hitting and defensive progression during the final week before the All-Star break. The 30-year-old is on the mend from a left oblique strain, which sent him back to the shelf June 17 after he had previously missed just over a month with the same injury earlier in the season. He played in just two rehab games before returning from the injury the first time, but the Tigers may take a more conservative approach with Torres' ramp-up program this time around. While a return during the Tigers' first series following the All-Star break could be ambitious, Torres would still appear likely to make it back from the injured list at some point during the final week and a half of July.
Jackson Jobe
Jackson Jobe Hits three innings in rehab start
Mon, Jul 13, 2026, 3:09 PM
Jobe (elbow) struck out four while allowing two hits and no walks over three scoreless innings in a rehab start Monday in the rookie-level Florida Complex League.
Analysis: Jobe tossed 38 pitches (27 strikes) during the appearance, his second in the FCL after kicking off his rehab assignment last Tuesday. The flamethrowing righty could shift his assignment to a higher-level affiliate coming out of the All-Star break as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent last June. Jobe is expected to need the entirety of his 30-day rehab window to get fully stretched out and regain command, but the Tigers could open up a spot for him in the rotation once he's ready to return from the 60-day injured list. As a rookie last season, Jobe turned in a 4.22 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 39:27 K:BB in 49 innings over 10 starts before being shut down due to the elbow injury.
Jake Miller
Jake Miller Back on IL
Sun, Jul 12, 2026, 9:16 PM
Double-A Erie placed Miller on its 7-day injured list Sunday due to an unspecified issue.
Analysis: Miller opened the season on Triple-A Toledo's IL while he was recovering from October labral repair surgeries on both of his hips, but he was activated and assigned to Erie earlier in the week after completing a six rehab appearances across stops with three of the Tigers' lower-level affiliates. He made his debut for Erie on Tuesday and struck out two over three scoreless frames, but Miller apparently succumbed to a new injury coming out of that appearance.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Allows three runs Sunday
Sun, Jul 12, 2026, 7:01 PM
Montero allowed three runs on four hits across three innings of relief in Sunday's 5-0 loss to the Phillies. He walked one and struck out five.
Analysis: For the first time across his last four appearances in long relief, Montero allowed a run to cross home plate. Even with the brief stumble, it was a good first half of the season for the righty, who posted a 3.33 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 65 strikeouts across 97.1 innings. Montero may slide back into Detroit's rotation at some point, but for now, expect him to stick in his bullpen role, as he's been fairly effective in relief.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Falls to Phillies
Sun, Jul 12, 2026, 4:45 PM
Skubal (5-5) took the loss Sunday against the Phillies, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: While Skubal's now given up two runs or fewer in each of his last three outings, he'd be stuck with the loss Sunday as the Tigers' offense couldn't muster anything against Zack Wheeler in an eventual 5-0 defeat. Skubal will head into the All-Star break with a 3.09 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 89:11 K:BB across 13 starts (75.2 innings).
Framber Valdez
Framber Valdez Moves to bereavement list
Sun, Jul 12, 2026, 3:16 PM
The Tigers placed Valdez on the bereavement list Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Valdez finished the first half with a strong performance Thursday, when he struck out nine and allowed just one run over seven innings against the Athletics. The veteran left-hander will step away from the team for personal reasons just ahead of the All-Star break, and he may not rejoin the active roster until after next weekend's series against the Angels. The Tigers have already listed Troy Melton, Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize as their probable starters for the series versus the Angels.
Matt Vierling
Matt Vierling Reaches four times in loss
Sun, Jul 12, 2026, 7:44 AM
Vierling went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the Tigers' 4-2 loss to the Phillies on Saturday.
Analysis: Vierling paced Detroit's lineup from the leadoff spot as he matched his season high in hits. Heading into the All-Star break, the veteran utility player has mostly been working as a short-side platoon partner to James Outman in center field, with Vierling facing Philadelphia ace Cristopher Sanchez on Saturday. Vierling's ability to play other positions as well boosts his fantasy value, though his playing time is likely to remain somewhat sporadic in the second half of the year.
Eduardo Valencia
Eduardo Valencia Goes deep against Philadelphia
Sat, Jul 11, 2026, 8:16 PM
Valencia went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during the Tigers' 4-2 loss to the Phillies on Saturday.
Analysis: Valencia put the Tigers on the board with a solo homer off All-Star southpaw Cristopher Sanchez in the fifth inning. Valencia has gone deep in two of the first three games of his major-league career, and his power doesn't come as much of a surprise, given that he logged 16 home runs across 3331 plate appearances in Triple-A this season and another 25 deep balls over 433 minor-league plate appearances in 2025. Dillon Dingler was back in the Tigers' lineup after missing time due to a thumb injury, and with Jake Rogers on the 26-man roster, Valencia will likely head back to Triple-A at some point over the coming days.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Takes loss against Philadelphia
Sat, Jul 11, 2026, 8:11 PM
Mize (4-6) took the loss against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings.
Analysis: Mize fell one out short from logging a third consecutive quality start, and he didn't get quite enough run support from his Tigers teammates to avoid the loss, finishing Saturday's outing with 15 whiffs on 97 pitches (62 strikes). The 29-year-old right-hander has given up at least three earned runs in three of his last five starts, and he enters the All-Star break with a 2.79 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 77.1 innings.
Bound for Motor City
Sat, Jul 11, 2026, 6:24 PM
The Tigers selected Pellegrin with the No. 125 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Analysis: Pellegrin will presumably forego his commitment to Tulane and join the Detroit organization. Known primarily for his speed and up-the-middle defense, Pellegrin shined at the plate during MLB's Draft League, reaching base 13 times in the span of 14 plate appearances in June, as noted by Christian Romo of the Detroit Free Press.
Popped by Tigers at pick 69
Sat, Jul 11, 2026, 4:33 PM
The Tigers selected Dempsey with the No. 69 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Analysis: Dempsey, a two-way player at Florida Gulf Coast, was drafted as a pitcher. Some evaluators think he could add velocity on the mound while focusing on pitching. The right-hander has impressed with high spin rates on his breaking pitches.
Drafted by Detroit
Sat, Jul 11, 2026, 4:08 PM
The Tigers selected LeBlanc with the No. 61 pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Analysis: LeBlanc set a single-season record at Kansas in 2026 with 25 home runs and carried that power into the wood-bat Northwoods League, where he launched five homers with a .507 OPS last year. The 21-year-old doesn't have elite speed but was still decently productive on the basepaths with 11 steals for Kansas last season.
