Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Sits out Tuesday
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 11:26 PM
Torres (side) didn't play in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.
Analysis: The veteran second baseman sustained an apparent left side injury during Monday's contest will end up missing at least one game. During an appearance on MLB Network Radio on Tuesday, manager A.J. Hinch said, "I'm bracing for this being an issue, but I don't know. Hopefully it's just a little cramp or something that caused an issue but that's a total guess," per Jeremy Otto of 97.1 The Ticket. Given the lack of clarity regarding the injury, Torres should be considered day-to-day heading into Wednesday's series finale in Houston, though it wouldn't be surprising if he sits for a second straight game.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith X-rays negative
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 10:38 PM
X-rays on Keith's right wrist came back negative Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Keith was a late scratch from the lineup before Tuesday's contest due to wrist soreness, but precautionary imaging determined that he isn't dealing with a serious issue, and the Tigers expect him to return to action Wednesday. The 24-year-old infielder is batting just .206 (7-for-34) since the start of June, but he exploded for three homers and six total RBI during his most recent game.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Takes loss in relief
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 10:11 PM
Montero (3-5) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits across 1.1 innings of relief to take the loss Tuesday against the Astros. He struck out two,
Analysis: Montero made all of his 13 previous appearances this season as the Detroit starter, and he struggled a bit with his first relief outing of the year. Despite a general lack of strikeouts, the righty has mostly been effective with a 3.67 ERA across 73.2 innings, though it looks like he could ultimately be ticketed for a bullpen role with Casey Mize (adductor) and Justin Verlander (hip) returning from the injured list soon. For now, Montero is slated to start for the Tigers on Saturday, but his status beyond that it unclear.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Scratched with sore wrist
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 6:26 PM
Keith was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros with right wrist soreness.
Analysis: After belting three home runs during Monday's series opener, Keith will be forced to sit out Tuesday's game to give his wrist a chance to heal. Kerry Carpenter will move into the DH spot with Keith out, allowing Wenceel Perez to start in right field.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Returning Sunday
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 5:51 PM
Verlander (hip) will return from the injured list to start Sunday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Verlander threw 66 pitches in a four-inning sim game Monday without any problems, so the Tigers will allow him to return from the IL over the weekend and make his first start since March 30. The 43-year-old posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 10.2 frames during his rehab assignment at Triple-A, but he was lit up for five earned runs in just 3.2 innings during his lone MLB outing this season and is set to return against a White Sox offense that's posted a .777 OPS since the beginning of June.
Troy Melton
Troy Melton Hopeful to avoid IL
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 10:54 PM
Melton is optimistic about avoiding a stint on the 15-day injured list after being scratched from Monday's scheduled start against Houston due to lower-back tightness, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Melton mentioned that he's not quite sure what caused his back to tighten up, but he's hopeful that the issue will clear up shortly. The club will presumably monitor him closely over the next few days to determine when he can make his next start.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Blasts 12th home run Monday
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 10:33 PM
Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's 9-3 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Torkelson had a three-true-outcomes night, as he struck out in his other three at-bats outside of his walk and home run. It's a pretty typical stat line for the slugger, who is batting just .210 this season but has gone deep four times in his last nine games to get to 12 long balls overall. While Torkelson can be a streaky player who is prone to slumps, his power keeps him relevant in most fantasy formats.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Keeps rolling Monday
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 10:25 PM
Dingler went 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored in Monday's 9-3 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Dingler is known more for his home run power than his speed, but he's now managed to record a triple in consecutive games. The Detroit catcher is having an outstanding season with 16 long balls, 36 runs scored, 50 RBI and an .868 OPS across 65 contests. At this rate, Dingler seems headed for an All-Star Game appearance next month, and he's been a tremendous fantasy asset so far.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Goes deep in win Monday
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 10:18 PM
McGonigle went 2-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 9-3 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Colt Keith stole the show with a three-homer night, but McGonigle still managed to put together another great performance. The rookie infielder lifted his fifth home run of the season in the second inning, and he recorded multiple walks for the second time in his last five games. McGonigle is showing a patient approach at the plate with a little pop, which has made him a dynamic leadoff hitter for the Tigers and likely the frontrunner for American League Rookie of the Year at the moment.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Erupts for three home runs
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 10:13 PM
Keith went 3-for-4 with three home runs and six RBI in Monday's 9-3 win over the Astros.
Analysis: After hitting no home runs through his first 62 games of the season, Keith has now gone deep four times in his last four contests, which included his first career three-homer game Monday. The 24-year-old went deep with a runner on in the third and seventh innings, then capped his night with a solo shot in the ninth. The six RBI are also a career best for Keith, who raised his OPS from .634 to .701 with the monster performance.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Exits with side injury
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 7:48 PM
Torres left Monday's game against the Astros with an apparent left side injury, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Torres looked to suffer the injury on a swing during the top of the second inning, and he was unable to finish the at-bat. The 29-year-old was activated from the injured list at the beginning of the month after previously down with a left oblique strain, so this is a concerning sight for fantasy managers. The Tigers should have an update on Torres' status shortly.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Tosses 66 pitches in sim game
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 7:00 PM
Verlander (hip) threw 66 pitches during a four-inning simulated game Monday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Verlander went up against the likes of Hao-Yu Lee, Jake Rogers and Wenceel Perez during Monday's sim game, per Petzold. Petzold also notes that it seems as though the Tigers aren't confident the veteran right-hander is ready to face major-league competition, despite being given a clean bill of health. It's not yet clear as to when Verlander will be activated from the 60-day injured list, though Saturday against the White Sox appears to be the next possibility.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Playing time dwindling
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 5:29 PM
Perez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Perez finds himself on the bench for a fifth straight matchup with a right-handed starting pitcher and looks to have faded into a short-side platoon role. The 26-year-old switch hitter is slashing just .159/.237/.290 in 118 plate appearances against right-handers this season.
Drew Anderson
Drew Anderson Making spot start
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 5:24 PM
Anderson will start a bullpen game for the Tigers on Monday in Houston, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Troy Melton (back) was scratched from his scheduled start, so the Tigers will turn to Anderson on short notice to open Monday's contest. Anderson tossed 4.2 scoreless frames in a spot start earlier this season and has often covered multiple innings out of the bullpen this season. However, Anderson recorded three or fewer outs in six of his last seven outings and will be pitching on two days' rest, so he won't last long Monday.
Troy Melton
Troy Melton Scratched from start
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 5:15 PM
Melton has been scratched from Monday's start versus the Astros due to lower-back tightness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: The Tigers will start Drew Anderson instead in what will be a bullpen game. It's unclear at this point when Melton might be ready to make his next start, so he should be considered day-to-day until further notice.
Activated, assigned to High-A
Mon, Jun 15, 2026, 12:22 PM
Double-A Erie reinstated Sears (elbow) from its 7-day injured list Sunday and assigned him to High-A West Michigan.
Analysis: While working his way back from a left elbow osteophyte fracture, Sears had resided on Erie's IL all season before being cleared to begin a rehab assignment in mid-May. Over five starts between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and West Michigan, Sears compiled a 2.63 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 18:5 K:BB in 13.2 innings. He'll get some more time to knock off rust and build up his pitch count in the Midwest League before likely joining the Erie rotation at some point later this summer.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Sim game on tap
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 5:21 PM
Verlander (hip) is slated to throw a simulated game in Houston on Monday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: While Verlander's rehab assignment looks to be over after he built up to 5.2 innings and 86 pitches in his second start with Triple-A Toledo last Wednesday, the Tigers aren't yet ready to make room for him in the big-league rotation. The veteran righty will thus remain on the 60-day IL for the time being, but he'll continue to stick on a five-day pitching schedule by throwing a sim game Monday. The Tigers will decide Verlander's next step following the sim game, but it's possible that he'll return from the IL and move back into the rotation during next weekend's series versus the White Sox.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Tigers-Guardians postponed Sunday
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 12:12 PM
MIze (adductor) won't be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday against the Guardians after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland.
Analysis: The two teams will make up the game as part of a split doubleheader Sept. 4. After making a five-inning rehab start with Single-A Lakeland earlier in the week, Mize had been slated to make his first appearance for Detroit since May 27 in the series finale in Cleveland. Due to the postponement, however, the Tigers will elect to push Mize's turn in the rotation back three days, with the right-hander now scheduled to be activated from the IL to start Wednesday's series finale in Houston, per Jason Beck of MLB.com.
Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen Sharp in return
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 8:19 AM
Jansen pitched a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Guardians.
Analysis: Jansen was reinstated Friday after landing on the injured list in late May due to right pelvic inflammation, and he looked good in his first game action since returning. The veteran reliever had blown four saves and seen his ERA climb to 4.80 before getting shut down, but it's possible he wasn't quite right mechanically. Now that he's had time to rest and recover, Jansen should slot back in as Detroit's closer, and he can still be an effective pitcher at this stage of his long career when healthy, as he demonstrated last season with a 2.59 ERA and 0.95 WHIP across 59 innings with the Angels.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Reaches three times in loss
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 8:10 AM
Torres went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Guardians.
Analysis: Torres led off the game with his sixth double of the season, then came around to score a few batters later on a Dillon Dingler single. The Detroit second baseman has four multi-hit performances across his last 10 contests, and he's slashing .350/.422/.600 during that span with two home runs, seven RBI and eight runs scored. Torres looks to be kicking things into gear and should remain a strong fantasy asset moving forward.
