Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Getting rest Saturday
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 9:42 AM
Dingler isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Dingler will get a day off after going 2-for-7 with a homer and two RBI through the first two games of the series. Jake Rogers will fill in for him behind the plate and bat ninth.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Swipes two bags in big win
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 8:51 AM
McGonigle went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Friday's 8-0 win over the Astros.
Analysis: The 21-year-old infielder set the table for the rout from the leadoff spot as he continues to enjoy a spectacular MLB debut. McGonigle has hit safely in 11 of the last 12 games, batting .311 (14-for-45) over that span with a .415 OBP, and on the season he's produced a .284/.391/.426 slash line with six homers, 11 steals, 28 RBI and 49 runs in 79 contests.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Blanks Houston in emotional win
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 8:47 AM
Montero (4-5) picked up the win in Friday's 8-0 victory over the Astros, scattering five hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: With his mind on the devastation back home after two recent earthquakes, the Venezuelan right-hander produced one of his best outings of the season en route to his seventh quality start of 2026. Montero fired 70 of 96 pitches for strikes, and Houston didn't even get a runner past second base until his final frame. Over five appearances (four starts) in June, Montero sports a 2.70 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB in 26.2 innings. Jack Flaherty (ankle) is expected to come off the IL this weekend with Justin Verlander (hamstring) potentially not far behind him, so the Tigers' rotation could get very crowded ahead of the All-Star break, but for now Montero is set to make his next start on the road next week against the Rangers.
James Outman
James Outman Provides jolt Friday
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 8:15 AM
Outman went 1-for-2 with a walk, a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 8-0 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Outman is starting to seize more playing time in center field in tandem with Matt Vierling, with Vierling also capable of playing a corner spot as he did Friday. Outman isn't hitting much with only a .190 batting average in 11 games with the Tigers and an even worse .165 average overall. He's not a particularly exciting fantasy option due to the lack of consistent contact, but with both Javier Baez (ankle) and Wenceel Perez (orbital) facing extended absences, playing time should continue to be there for Outman in the short term, unless the Tigers decide the time is right to bring up top prospect Max Clark.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Hits fifth home run
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 8:05 AM
Keith went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 8-0 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Keith hit his fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning against Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti. All five of the infielder's long balls have come in the last 13 games, and he has a .947 OPS during that span. For the season, Keith has a .675 OPS, but that figure should continue to climb if he can maintain his recent power production.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Lifts off Friday
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 8:01 AM
Carpenter went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 8-0 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Carpenter took Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti deep with a runner on in the third inning for his 11th home run of the season. All 11 of the outfielder's long balls have come against righties, and he has a .795 OPS in those matchups this year. Carpenter still isn't providing much against southpaws, posting just a .421 OPS in a small number of at-bats, so he should remain a strong-side platoon player moving forward.
Jackson Jobe
Jackson Jobe Will throw live BP on Saturday
Fri, Jun 26, 2026, 3:24 PM
Jobe (elbow) will throw live batting practice Saturday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Jobe will continue his rehab at the Tigers' facility in Lakeland, Fla. He's already thrown handfuls of bullpen sessions and will now progress to facing live hitters this weekend, as the right-hander works his way back from Tommy John surgery. Jobe has a good chance to pitch for Detroit in the second half of the season.
Hao-Yu Lee
Hao-Yu Lee Heading to bench Friday
Fri, Jun 26, 2026, 3:24 PM
Lee is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Though Zach McKinstry will cover second base Friday, Lee appears to have emerged as the Tigers' primary option at the keystone since Gleyber Torres aggravated a left oblique injury June 15 and landed back on the shelf. Lee had started at second base in eight of the Tigers' previous nine games, going 9-for-26 (.346 average) with two doubles, two runs and one RBI over that span.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Shifts to 60-day IL
Fri, Jun 26, 2026, 3:21 PM
The Tigers transferred Perez (orbital) to the 60-day injured list Friday.
Analysis: With the team claiming Yilber Diaz off waivers from the Diamondbacks in a corresponding move, Detroit needed to open a spot on the 40-man roster. Perez will miss a couple months at minimum after he sustained a left orbital fracture in pregame warmups June 16.
Yilber Diaz
Yilber Diaz Claimed by Detroit
Fri, Jun 26, 2026, 1:34 PM
The Tigers claimed Diaz off waivers from the Diamondbacks on Friday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Diaz was designated for assignment last weekend after he was tagged for seven runs on seven hits and one walk across two-thirds of an inning in last Saturday's loss to the Twins. The 25-year-old still sports a high-90s fastball and potentially plus slider despite major control and command issues, and he'll get a fresh start in Detroit's organization.
Troy Melton
Troy Melton Tough-luck loss in strong start
Thu, Jun 25, 2026, 9:59 PM
Melton (4-1) took the loss Thursday against the Astros, allowing one run on two hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: That makes it back-to-back quality starts for Melton, who now has four such efforts over just six outings this year. The 25-year-old right-hander has been particularly hard to hit in 2026 as well, giving up four hits or fewer on four occasions so far. Melton boasts a 2.39 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB across 37.2 innings, but his next matchup is an especially difficult draw in New York against the first-place Yankees.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Homers again in loss
Thu, Jun 25, 2026, 8:12 PM
Dingler went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Astros.
Analysis: Dingler entered the ninth inning having not put the ball in play yet, but he quickly changed that, lacing the first pitch from Enyel De Los Santos over the center field wall for his 19th home run of the season. The Detroit catcher now has three long balls across his last six games and eight homers in 21 contests this month. The 19 deep flies overall is a new career high for Dingler, who had 13 home runs in 126 regular-season games last year.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Set to avoid surgery
Thu, Jun 25, 2026, 5:59 PM
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Perez won't require surgery for the left orbital fracture he sustained June 16, but the outfielder lacks a clear timeline for a return, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. "It's not, from what I understand, where it's going to be something long term," Hinch said of Perez's injury. "But it doesn't mean it heals itself fast. He's feeling better and better and reporting progress."
Analysis: Perez suffered the injury prior to the Tigers' June 16 game in Houston, when he struck himself below the eye with an exercise band while taking part in a pregame workout. While he was fortunate to avoid surgery and isn't expected to have any long-term damage to his vision, Perez won't return from the injured list this weekend when first eligible, and his absence could very well extend into the All-Star break. The 26-year-old had been in the midst of a rough start to the season before suffering the injury, batting just .180 with seven home runs and three stolen bases over 53 games.
Parker Meadows
Parker Meadows Return not imminent
Thu, Jun 25, 2026, 5:51 PM
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Meadows (forearm) has yet to resume hitting and is without a timeline to return from the 60-day injured list, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Meadows has been on the shelf since undergoing surgery April 13 to repair a radial fracture in his left forearm, which he sustained in a collision in the outfield. The 26-year-old appears to have made a full recovery from the concussion and mouth laceration that he also suffered in the collision, but due to the complex nature of his surgery, he remains limited to doing daily rehab while he waits for the fracture to heal. While Hinch indicated that Meadows hasn't hit any setbacks in the recovery process, a target date for the outfielder's return is unlikely to come into focus until he's able to take part in a full range of baseball activities.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Stung by long ball in loss
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 10:34 PM
Skubal (3-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing four runs on four hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out nine.
Analysis: The Yankees made the most out of their hits, taking Skubal deep three times Wednesday. The All-Star left-hander served up a trio of home runs for the sixth time in his career, and he's now given up six homers in his last three starts since coming off the injured list after surrendering only two in his first seven outings of 2026. Skubal will be trying to right the ship when he brings a 3.32 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 66:8 K:BB over 59.2 innings into a scheduled rematch with the Yankees, this time in New York.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Reaches, scores twice in loss
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 8:25 PM
Torkelson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: Torkelson made an impact without going deep as he provided all of Detroit's offense against Ryan Weathers and three New York relievers. The slugging first baseman is still very much a boom-or-bust option who's batting only .203 in 20 games this month and .211 for the season. While it wasn't the case Wednesday, Torkelson often needs to leave the yard to offer fantasy value because he doesn't make consistent contact at the plate.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty On track to return Sunday
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 3:03 PM
Flaherty (ankle) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday against the Astros, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Flaherty was sharp in his rehab start with Double-A Erie on Tuesday, striking out seven while holding the opposition to two runs over 5.2 frames. He got his pitch count up to 83, so Flaherty should be prepared for a relatively normal workload Sunday. With Keider Montero pitching well, the Tigers could stick with a six-man rotation once Flaherty returns, at least for one turn.
Jahmai Jones
Jahmai Jones Not starting against lefty
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 2:45 PM
Jones is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Though he's on the Tigers' roster primarily as a specialist against left-handed pitching, Jones will be on the bench Wednesday for a matchup with Yankees southpaw Ryan Weathers. Jones has failed to live up to his billing as a lefty masher thus far in 2026, slashing .162/.253/.270 with a 28.9 percent strikeout rate over 83 plate appearances. The 28-year-old is likely on a tight leash and could soon be in danger of being designated for assignment.
James Outman
James Outman Taking seat versus lefty
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 2:40 PM
Outman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Though Matt Vierling will get the call in center field for the second straight game while the Tigers go up against another lefty (Ryan Weathers), Outman may have moved into the strong side of a platoon at the position. Outman started over Vierling in the Tigers' last two matchups with righties and has gone 3-for-16 with a home run, a stolen base and a 2:10 BB:K overall since joining Detroit earlier this month as a waiver pickup from Minnesota.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Idle versus lefty
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 2:36 PM
Keith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Keith will be on the bench for the second day in a row while the Yankees send another lefty starter (Ryan Weathers) to the bump. Keith has logged just 13 plate appearances versus lefties all season, reaching base on only two occasions.
