Connor Seabold
Connor Seabold Effective in team debut
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 9:13 AM
Seabold tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Padres. He allowed one hit and struck out three.
Analysis: After Detroit starter Jack Flaherty allowed three runs (two earned) while covering only 4.1 innings, Seabold was needed to cover a few frames. The righty looked sharp across 50 pitches in his team debut, and he managed to keep the Tigers in the game after Flaherty's ineffective outing. It looks like Seabold, who has made 19 starts at the MLB level in his career, will be tasked with a long-relief role in Detroit.
Parker Meadows
Parker Meadows Not in Saturday's lineup
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 4:19 PM
Meadows is not in the Tigers' starting lineup against the Padres on Saturday.
Analysis: Even though the Padres are sending right-hander Randy Vasquez to the mound Saturday, the lefty-hitting Meadows will open the game on the bench. The Tigers will start Riley Greene, Matt Vierling and Zach McKinstry in the outfield from left to right while Kerry Carpenter serves as the designated hitter. Through two regular-season games, Meadows has gone 1-for-5 with two RBI, one walk and one steal.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Resting Saturday
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 4:17 PM
Dingler is not in Detroit's starting lineup against San Diego on Saturday.
Analysis: Dingler started in each of the Tigers' first two games of the regular season, but he'll get some rest Saturday while Jake Rogers serves as the team's backstop and bats ninth. Dinger has gone 3-for-8 with one home run and four RBI to open the 2026 campaign.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Sitting Saturday
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 4:15 PM
Baez is not in the Tigers' starting lineup against the Padres on Saturday.
Analysis: The Tigers will tweak their lineup for Saturday's game, moving Kevin McGonigle to shortstop and Colt Keith to third base while Kerry Carpenter serves as the designated hitter. Through two regular-season games, Baez has gone 1-for-7 with one walk and two strikeouts.
Kyle Finnegan
Kyle Finnegan Earns first 2026 hold
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 8:53 AM
Finnegan worked around a walk to toss a scoreless inning of relief and earn a hold in Friday's 5-2 win over the Padres. He struck out two.
Analysis: Finnegan followed starter Framber Valdez, who covered six innings, and reliever Enmanuel De Jesus, who worked the seventh. While Finnegan labored a bit, needing 20 pitches to get out of the eighth, he still managed his first hold of the season in front of new closer Kenley Jansen. Finnegan recorded 24 total regular-season saves pitching for the Nationals and Tigers last year, but it looks like he'll be in a traditional setup role this season now that the veteran Jansen is around.
Enmanuel De Jesus
Enmanuel De Jesus Earns first MLB win Friday
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 8:47 AM
De Jesus (1-0) worked around a hit to toss a scoreless inning of relief and earn the win in Friday's 5-2 victory over the Padres. He struck out two.
Analysis: After starter Framber Valdez covered six solid innings, De Jesus got the seventh and kept things rolling for the Detroit pitching staff. The lefty is back in the majors for the first time since a brief appearance in 2023, and his win in relief Friday marked his first ever at the MLB level. De Jesus looked good for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, and if he can carry over that success into the regular season, he could emerge as a trusted bullpen option for the Tigers in 2026.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Reaches twice from leadoff spot
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 8:42 AM
Carpenter went 0-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in Friday's 5-2 win over the Padres.
Analysis: For the second game in a row to start the year, Carpenter found himself in the leadoff spot for Detroit. He's yet to get a hit while striking out five times, but the Tigers clearly have confidence in the 28-year-old as a key offensive catalyst. Carpenter batted leadoff 41 times for Detroit during the 2025 regular season, though he most frequently batted third. A regular switch to the No. 1 spot could allow the outfielder to score more runs but might also reduce his RBI output.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Reaches four times in win
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 8:35 AM
Torres went 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored in Friday's 5-2 win over the Padres.
Analysis: Back in his familiar No. 2 spot in the lineup this season, Torres is displaying the patience at the plate that makes him a good fit for the role. The infielder has already walked four times in two games versus just one strikeout. As someone who sees the ball well and knows how to get on base, Torres could be in line to score a lot of runs this year batting ahead of the likes of Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson and breakout candidate Kevin McGonigle.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Not starting Friday
Fri, Mar 27, 2026, 5:21 PM
Keith is out of the lineup for Friday's game against San Diego.
Analysis: The ascension of Kevin McGonigle has nixed Keith's opportunity to land a regular role at third base. While the Tigers found a spot for Keith at designated hitter on Opening Day, the 24-year-old is out of the starting nine Friday as Gleyber Torres serves as the DH and Zach McKinstry plays second base. McGonigle, after going 4-for-5 in the opener, is manning third once again.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Tees off on Opening Day
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 9:13 PM
Dingler went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's 8-2 win over the Padres.
Analysis: Dingler got off to a slow start in camp following arthroscopic right elbow surgery in the offseason, but he heated up toward the end of Grapefruit League play and carried that momentum into Opening Day. The 27-year-old is expected to see the bulk of the playing time behind the plate for the Tigers, and after an encouraging 2025 campaign, Dingler could be in store for bigger and better things in 2026.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Tallies four hits in MLB debut
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 9:09 PM
McGonigle went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 8-2 win over the Padres.
Analysis: Making his MLB debut, McGonigle started at third base and batted sixth on Opening Day, and he made quite the first impression on the heels of a strong spring training performance. The youngster became just the second Detroit player ever to record four hits in his first game in the majors. McGonigle is expected to see plenty of time at shortstop this year, though he covered the hot corner Thursday with Javier Baez starting at short. No matter where McGonigle plays in the field, he looks ready to make a fantasy impact right away.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Making MLB debut at 3B
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 11:44 AM
McGonigle is starting at third base and batting sixth in Thursday's Opening Day matchup against the Padres.
Analysis: The 21-year-old shortstop will end up making his MLB debut at the hot corner while Javier Baez picks up the start at shortstop. McGonigle, who is one of the top prospects in baseball, is expected to split his playing time between the two positions. He posted a .254/.369/.550 slash line with 12 homers and seven steals in 46 games at the Double-A level last year and had an .888 OPS during spring training.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Could be set for timeshare
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 7:42 PM
After an underwhelming spring training, Keith may end up splitting time at third base with several other players, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Keith sported a .662 OPS and no home runs across 17 Grapefruit League games. His middling results, along with a deep Detroit roster that features Zach McKinstry and Matt Vierling as primary options at the hot corner, could force Keith into something of a timeshare. Top prospect Kevin McGonigle is on the roster as well and is expected to see most of his time at shortstop, though he could also slide over to third on days when Javier Baez plays up the middle. Either way, Keith will likely need to produce at the plate if he wants to hold onto regular playing time.
Trey Sweeney
Trey Sweeney Starting season on IL
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 11:50 AM
The Tigers placed Sweeney (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: The 25-year-old suffered the right shoulder strain at the start of camp and was unable to play in any games during spring training. Sweeney will require a rehab assignment to get some games in before returning from the IL. Even once healthy, he could be ticketed for the minors with top prospect Kevin McGonigle beginning the season as Detroit's primary shortstop.
Bailey Horn
Bailey Horn Moves to injured list
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 11:45 AM
The Tigers placed Horn (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: Horn underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow during the offseason and continues to work through his rehab program. The left-hander has been throwing bullpen sessions but will likely require a handful of rehab appearances after missing spring training.
Sawyer Gipson-Long
Sawyer Gipson-Long Lands on injured list
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 11:43 AM
The Tigers placed Gipson-Long (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: The right-hander sustained the injury during the offseason and was working through his rehab program during spring training. Gipson-Long was throwing bullpen sessions late in camp and will likely need a rehab assignment before being cleared for his season debut with Detroit.
Dylan Smith
Dylan Smith DFA'd by Detroit
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 11:38 AM
The Tigers designated Smith for assignment Wednesday.
Analysis: The right-hander was optioned to Triple-A Toledo in early March and is now losing his place on the 40-man roster. Smith made his MLB debut with seven relief appearances for the Tigers last year and pitched well, posting a 1.38 ERA and 0.85 WHIP despite a 4:5 K:BB.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Officially added to roster
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 11:16 AM
The Tigers selected McGonigle's contract from Double-A Erie on Wednesday.
Analysis: The transaction was merely a formality after the Tigers confirmed Tuesday that the 21-year-old star prospect would be included on the Opening Day roster. McGonigle earned the right to bypass the Triple-A level and make his MLB debut Thursday in San Diego after slashing .250/.411/.477 with two home runs and two stolen bases over 56 plate appearances in spring training. He's expected to handle an everyday role while splitting time between third base and shortstop, and he could occupy a prominent spot in the batting order right away.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Set for utility role?
Tue, Mar 24, 2026, 7:32 PM
With Kevin McGonigle set to make the Opening Day roster, per Robert Murray of FanSided.com, Baez may ultimately slide into a utility role with the Tigers.
Analysis: The Tigers wouldn't have top prospect McGonigle on the roster just to sit on the bench, so the 21-year-old should see plenty of time at shortstop. That could push Baez into more of a utility role where he plays both in the infield and outfield. The veteran saw his first action in center field at the MLB level last season, and he could ultimately overtake Parker Meadows there in 2026, particularly if the former performs better at the plate. Baez should also see time at short when McGonigle needs a breather.
Parker Meadows
Parker Meadows Hangs on to roster spot
Tue, Mar 24, 2026, 7:25 PM
Meadows was informed Tuesday that he will make Detroit's Opening Day roster, with Wenceel Perez optioned to Triple-A Toledo, Jack Vita of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Top prospect Kevin McGonigle had an impressive spring performance, and the Tigers rewarded him with an Opening Day roster spot. That squeezed Perez out of a spot, with Meadows hanging around for now. Meadows looks like the top option in center field, but with McGonigle now in the fold and expected to play shortstop, Javier Baez will likely see more time in the outfield. That development could ultimately push Meadows to more of a bench role, particularly if he can't get his bat going.
