Framber Valdez
Framber Valdez No-decision after suspension
Wed, May 13, 2026, 9:56 PM
Valdez did not factor into Wednesday's decision against the Mets, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven across 6.2 innings.
Analysis: Valdez took to the mound Wednesday after serving a five-game suspension for throwing at Trevor Story during the Tigers' 10-3 loss to the Red Sox on May 5. Valdez limited the Mets to just one run through six innings but was tagged for another run in the seventh to no longer in line for the win. He logged 17 first-pitch strikes and generated 11 whiffs on a whopping 106 pitches, the first time he's cracked the century mark this season. It was the sixth quality start of the season for Valdez, who has a 4.32 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 42:17 K:BB across 50 innings. He's lined up to face the Guardians at home next week.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Swipes another base in loss
Wed, May 13, 2026, 9:33 PM
McGonigle went 1-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Mets.
Analysis: While Detroit has been scuffling a bit at 19-24, McGonigle has been a bright spot for the Tigers all year long. The rookie is now batting .301 with an .853 OPS, and he's stolen a base in consecutive games to get to seven steals overall in seven attempts. McGonigle is making a strong push for AL Rookie of the Year honors, though Chicago's Munetaka Murakami is also very much in the mix.
Riley Greene
Riley Greene Records three hits Wednesday
Wed, May 13, 2026, 9:27 PM
Greene went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Wednesday's 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Mets.
Analysis: Greene provided all of Detroit's offense with a two-run single in the top of the first inning. The star outfielder then tallied two more hits to notch his third three-hit effort of the season. Greene has been excellent with a .325/.419/.487 slash line through 43 games, and he should continue to be the main offensive weapon for the Tigers, giving him plenty of fantasy utility moving forward.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Two more hits Wednesday
Wed, May 13, 2026, 9:23 PM
Dingler went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Mets.
Analysis: A day after slugging his seventh home run of the season, Dingler tallied two more hits to extend his hitting streak to three games. It's a small step in the right direction for the catcher, who was batting .302 after a four-hit effort back on April 19. Since then, Dingler is batting just .186 across 18 games, but he's in no real danger of losing his starting gig to Jake Rogers and his .478 OPS.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Slugs seventh homer Tuesday
Tue, May 12, 2026, 10:44 PM
Dingler went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 10-2 loss to the Mets.
Analysis: Dingler opened the scoring in the second inning by taking Freddy Peralta deep for his seventh homer of the season. The catcher had dropped off significantly after a strong start to the year, entering Tuesday batting just .161 with a 4:14 BB:K over his previous 16 games. Even with the recent struggles, Dingler still owns a solid .234/.305/.461 slash line with eight doubles, 27 RBI and 14 runs scored across 141 plate appearances.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Struggles continue vs. Mets
Tue, May 12, 2026, 10:21 PM
Flaherty (0-4) took the loss Tuesday against the Mets, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings.
Analysis: Flaherty labored throughout the outing, needing 97 pitches to record just 11 outs, including 53 pitches over the first two innings alone. The veteran right-hander has struggled badly to work deep into games lately, failing to complete four innings in four of his last five starts. During that stretch, he has surrendered 15 earned runs across 17.2 innings while battling inconsistent command. Flaherty now owns a 5.73 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 44:29 K:BB across 37.2 innings and will seek to record his first win in his next scheduled start, against Toronto.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Faces hitters Monday
Tue, May 12, 2026, 6:55 PM
Mize (thigh) threw live batting practice Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Mize began throwing bullpen sessions over the weekend, and his quick return to facing live hitters keeps him on track for a brief stay on the injured list. The 29-year-old righty will be eligible to return from his right calf strain Thursday.
Will Vest
Will Vest Throwing off mound
Tue, May 12, 2026, 6:52 PM
Vest (forearm) threw a bullpen session Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It was the first time Vest had thrown off a mound since landing on the injured list May 2 with forearm inflammation. He'll be eligible to return from the IL on Thursday, though he's likely to throw a few additional bullpen and live batting practice sessions before being activated.
Nick Sandlin
Nick Sandlin Goes to Tigers on MiLB deal
Tue, May 12, 2026, 10:40 AM
The Tigers signed Sandlin to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Sandlin become a free agent last week after struggling in 8.2 innings of relief for the Angels with an 11.42 ERA and 1.62 WHIP. The right-hander entered this season with a career 3.19 ERA and 27.3 percent strikeout rate, so he's a sensible addition in hopes that he can right the ship. Sandlin is likely headed to Triple-A Toledo.
Connor Seabold
Connor Seabold Starts up rehab assignment
Mon, May 11, 2026, 11:17 AM
Seabold (ankle) struck out two and gave up one hit and no walks over a scoreless inning in his rehab appearance Friday with Single-A Lakeland.
Analysis: The Tigers placed Seabold on the 15-day injured list April 26 due to left ankle inflammation, but he shouldn't require an extended rehab assignment before making his return from the shelf. The right-hander projects to serve as a multi-inning option out of the Detroit bullpen once he's activated.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Shifts to 60-day IL
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:58 PM
The Tigers transferred Verlander to the 60-day injured list Sunday.
Analysis: The 43-year-old progressed to facing live batters Saturday as he continues to work his way back from hip inflammation, which sent him to the IL after his season debut March 30. Verlander was already likely to require a few rehab starts in the minors before rejoining Detroit's rotation, so the move to the 60-day IL likely doesn't affect his return timeline much. He'll be eligible to come off the IL at the start of June.
Gage Workman
Gage Workman Added to big-league roster
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:54 PM
The Tigers selected Workman's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
Analysis: Workman has spent most of his career in the Tigers organization, but he briefly saw big-league action in 2025 with the Cubs and White Sox as a Rule 5 Draft pick before he was returned to Detroit in May. He now looks poised to see MLB action with the Tigers for the first time after the team called him up as a replacement on the roster for outfielder Kerry Carpenter (shoulder), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. Workman has posted a 1.003 OPS with four home runs and 12 stolen bases over 35 games with Toledo this season while seeing time at second base, third base and shortstop. He hasn't played the outfield in 2026, but he made double-digit starts at all three spots with Toledo a season ago.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Out with AC joint sprain
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:40 PM
The Tigers placed Carpenter on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.
Analysis: The 29-year-old sustained the injury Saturday against the Royals on a collision with the outfield wall, and he'll be out for at least the next week and a half as a result. Gage Workman was called up from Triple-A Toledo to take Carpenter's place on Detroit's 26-man active roster.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Taking seat against lefty
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:27 PM
Keith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: Keith will hit the bench for the second time in the series while the Royals send another southpaw (Noah Cameron) to the hill. Zack Short will serve as Keith's replacement on the left side of the Detroit infield, covering shortstop while Kevin McGonigle shifts over to third base.
Zach McKinstry
Zach McKinstry Taking seat against southpaw
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:25 PM
McKinstry is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: Though he'll hit the bench Sunday with lefty Noah Cameron taking the hill for the Royals, the left-handed-hitting McKinstry has been included in the lineup in all three of the Tigers' matchups with right-handed starters/bulk relievers since being activated from the injured list Tuesday. McKinstry is playing through a Grade 3 tear of his pelvic bone that he sustained back on April 15, but he'll likely hold down a strong-side platoon role for Detroit until the team gets one or both of Gleyber Torres (oblique) and Javier Baez (ankle) back from the IL.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Out Sunday, could be IL bound
Sun, May 10, 2026, 3:20 PM
Carpenter (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: Carpenter exited Saturday's 5-1 loss due to a left shoulder injury, which he sustained while attempting to flag down a Bobby Witt flyball that ultimately fell in for an inside-the-park home run. The Tigers are still evaluating Carpenter before deciding whether he'll require a stint on the 10-day injured list, but the team already has a contingency plan in place if the 28-year-old needs to be shut down. Per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, the Tigers have added Triple-A Toledo utility man Gage Workman to their taxi squad and will formally activate him ahead of Tuesday's game against the Mets if Carpenter needs to go on the IL.
Brenan Hanifee
Brenan Hanifee Starting bullpen game
Sun, May 10, 2026, 8:08 AM
Hanifee will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Sunday's game against the Royals, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: The right-hander has some experience as an opener and will start Sunday's bullpen game for Detroit. Since getting called up from Triple-A Toledo in late April, Hanifee has allowed five hits with a 4:1 K:BB across 6.2 scoreless frames in four appearances.
Ty Madden
Ty Madden Covers six frames in bulk relief
Sat, May 9, 2026, 11:03 PM
Madden allowed three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out five batters over six relief innings in a no-decision versus Kansas City on Saturday.
Analysis: Detroit opted to go with an opener Saturday, so Madden didn't enter until the third frame. That saved him from being tagged with a loss, though it also prevented him from notching a quality start, which he would have otherwise earned with three runs allowed across six innings. Madden covered a starter's workload, tossing 87 pitches, 53 of which were strikes. The right-hander was worked in bulk relief in each of his two outings so far this season and has fared well, as he tossed five scoreless frames with seven punchouts in his previous appearance May 4 versus Boston. Given that success, the Tigers may opt to keep deploying Madden behind an opener, but regardless he seems likely to remain up with the big club and handling starter's innings since the Tigers' rotation is currently dealing with multiple injuries.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Exits game with shoulder injury
Sat, May 9, 2026, 7:12 PM
Carpenter was removed from Saturday's game against the Royals due to a left shoulder injury, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Carpenter slammed his left shoulder against the outfield wall on a misplay while attempting to field the ball, which resulted in an inside-the-park home run for Bobby Witt in the first inning. Carpenter didn't immediately leave the game, but he was eventually pulled before the bottom of the third inning and was replaced by Wenceel Perez. The Tigers should have an update on Carpenter's injury once the veteran outfielder undergoes more tests on his shoulder.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Completes side session
Sat, May 9, 2026, 8:28 AM
Mize (adductor) threw a bullpen session Friday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Mize appears to be tracking toward an abbreviated stay on the injured list while he works his way back from a mild right adductor strain, but he may not be ready for activation when first eligible in the middle of next week. He'll still need to face hitters in a simulated game or minor-league rehab assignment before Detroit brings him back from the IL.
