Will Vest
Will Vest Secures win Sunday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 8:53 PM
Vest (2-4) pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win in Sunday's 5-4 victory over the Mariners. He allowed a hit and struck out one.
Analysis: Vest worked through the top of the ninth inning on 10 pitches, then secured his second win of the year when the Tigers scored twice in the bottom half to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 win. The veteran righty has had a bumpy season, and a five-run outing back on May 26 is a big reason he's sitting with an inflated 6.53 ERA. However, with Kenley Jansen (pelvis) on the injured list, Vest is Detroit's most experienced healthy reliever, and he should continue to see high-leverage work as a result.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Triples, drives in two Sunday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 8:47 PM
Perez went 2-for-3 with a walk, a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Mariners.
Analysis: Batting ninth, Perez provided a jolt for the Tigers, which he's managed to do more frequently lately. Over his last 15 games, the outfielder is batting .316 with five extra-base hits, two stolen bases, seven RBI and 11 runs scored. It's still been a mostly down season for Perez, though his recent stretch at least gives fantasy managers some degree of optimism.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Plays hero in win Sunday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 8:18 PM
McGonigle went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run and three total RBI in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Mariners.
Analysis: McGonigle provided Detroit's first run of the game in the fourth inning on a solo home run, which was his fourth of the season. The rookie infielder then played hero with a walkoff, two-RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to erase a 4-3 deficit. While the Tigers are scuffling at 27-39, McGonigle has been a bright spot with a .291/.394/.426 slash line through his first 63 games at the MLB level, and Sunday's walkoff was also his first in the majors.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Dazzles in rehab start
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 5:16 PM
Skubal (elbow) tossed five scoreless innings Sunday in a rehab start with High-A West Michigan, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out six batters.
Analysis: Back on the mound for the first time since undergoing surgery May 6 to remove a loose body from his left elbow, Skubal exhibited no signs of rust. Though he was facing off against lower-caliber competition, Skubal was supremely efficient, spotting 44 of his 54 total pitches for strikes. According to Jeff Seidel of the Detroit Free Press, Skubal tossed an additional 15 pitches out of the bullpen following the start, so he could be stretched out enough to make his next appearance with the big club. The Tigers will presumably reassess Skubal in a bullpen session within the next few days, and if all goes well, he could rejoin the Detroit rotation as soon as Friday in Cleveland. Even if the Tigers elect to send Skubal out for another rehab start, he's still on track to easily beat his initial estimated recovery timeline of 2-to-3 months following surgery.
Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen Slated for rehab outing Tuesday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 12:00 PM
Jansen (pelvis) will pitch for Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jansen landed on the 15-day injured list in late May due to pelvic inflammation. He's progressed enough in his recovery to embark on a rehab assignment and could be reinstated from the IL when eligible June 12. Prior to his injury, Jansen posted a 4.80 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, seven saves in 11 attempts and a 19:9 K:BB across 15 innings.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Rehab start slated for Tuesday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 10:44 AM
Mize (thigh) will make a rehab start with Single-A Lakeland on Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Mize landed on the 15-day injured list in late May due to right adductor inflammation. He's progressed enough in his recovery to embark on a rehab assignment, and if he needs just one start in the minors, then Mize could return to the big club for their weekend road series against the Guardians.
Justin Verlander
Justin Verlander Slated for one more rehab start
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 10:14 AM
Verlander (hip) will not return from the 60-day injured list during the Tigers' upcoming home series against the Twins, suggesting that he will make at least one more rehab start, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reported Wednesday that Verlander was in line to return from the IL against Minnesota. However, the veteran right-hander apparently needs at least one more rehab start, which will take place Wednesday with Triple-A Toledo, per Evan Woodbery of MLive.com. Verlander made his first rehab start for Toledo this past Tuesday, tossing 64 pitches and allowing four hits while striking out three batters across five scoreless innings.
Matt Vierling
Matt Vierling Not in Sunday's lineup
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 9:20 AM
Vierling is not in the Tigers' starting lineup against the Mariners on Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Vierling will be on the bench for the series finale after going 0-for-3 in Saturday's loss. The Tigers will start Riley Greene, Wenceel Perez and Kerry Carpenter in the outfield from left to right.
Ty Madden
Ty Madden Pitches well Saturday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 8:29 AM
Madden tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Mariners. He allowed four hits and struck out three.
Analysis: The right-hander was able to effectively scatter the four hits and give the Tigers some length after starter Keider Montero allowed four runs in his five innings. Madden began the season in a bulk-relief role and covered 11 total innings in his first two appearances of the year. He's since shifted to more of a traditional long-relief role, which he filled Saturday. No matter how Madden has been deployed, he's been effective with a 2.60 ERA and 9.9 K/9 across 17.1 innings so far, though his fantasy value is capped by his usage.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Hit hard in Saturday's loss
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 7:41 PM
Montero (2-4) took the loss Saturday as the Tigers fell 4-0 to the Mariners, giving up four runs on six hits and and a walk over five innings. He struck out one.
Analysis: Half the hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including a solo homer by Dominic Canzone in the fourth inning. Montero has been tagged for four runs in three of his last five outings, a stretch in which he's stumbled to a 5.13 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB in 26.1 innings. With Tarik Skubal (elbow), Justin Verlander (hip) and Casey Mize (thigh) all closing in on returns from the IL in the next couple weeks, Montero's time in the Detroit rotation could be coming to an end very soon.
Framber Valdez
Framber Valdez Finally back in win column
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 8:20 AM
Valdez (3-4) picked up the win in Friday's 7-3 victory over the Mariners, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: The southpaw wasn't particularly efficient, needing 102 pitches (61 strikes) to record 15 outs, but Valdez didn't give up any extra-base hits and shut the door on Seattle after the visitors scratched out a first-inning run. It was Valdez's first win since April 19, and over eight starts since that date he's managed a 4.85 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB in 42.2 innings. He'll look to build on Friday's performance in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Twins.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Hits ninth home run Friday
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 8:17 AM
Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 7-3 win over the Mariners.
Analysis: Torkelson and Kerry Carpenter hit matching two-run home runs to power the Tigers to victory. The slugging first baseman is riding a five-game hitting streak, a span in which he's gone 7-for-16 with two homers and five RBI. Torkelson is now up to nine long balls for the season to go along with a .726 OPS, and he seems to be getting back on track in June after mostly struggling through May.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Goes deep again Friday
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 8:13 AM
Carpenter went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 7-3 win over the Mariners.
Analysis: Carpenter popped his second home run in the last three contests to get to eight long balls for the season. The 28-year-old outfielder recently returned from a three-week absence due to an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder, and he's gone 6-for-15 with the two homers and five RBI in his four games back. It appears that Carpenter is fully recovered from the injury and primed to produce at a high level as long as he remains healthy.
Trey Sweeney
Trey Sweeney Undergoing season-ending surgery
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 2:14 PM
Sweeney will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery this week, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Sweeney was sidelined with a shoulder strain during spring training and has experienced minimal improvement over the last four months despite receiving injections. He'll now undergo arthroscopic surgery and miss the entirety of the 2026 campaign. Sweeney has a career .202/.261/.313 slash line with 10 home runs, 49 RBI, 47 runs scored, five stolen bases and a 33:124 BB:K across 445 plate appearances over the previous two seasons.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Making rehab start Sunday
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 2:09 PM
Skubal (elbow) will make a rehab start with High-A West Michigan on Sunday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: It will be Skubal's first rehab start since undergoing surgery to have bone chips removed from his left elbow in early May. He's been throwing bullpens and simulated games with the Tigers in recent weeks, but the lefty will now head out on a rehab assignment to get some game action. As long as all goes smoothly, Skubal looks poised to rejoin the Tigers' rotation perhaps as early as next week.
Zach McKinstry
Zach McKinstry Making first start in center field
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 1:40 PM
McKinstry is starting in center field and batting eighth Friday against the Mariners.
Analysis: It will be McKinstry's first action in center field since the 2023 season. The utility man has played second base, third base, shortstop and right field this season, and his positional versatility keeps him on the lineup card more often that not. McKinstry is in the midst of a 1-for-26 skid at the plate, however, and is slashing just .158/.246/.211 with one homer, nine RBI, two runs scored, one stolen base and a 14:23 BB:K across 132 plate appearances this season.
Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen Throwing bullpen session Friday
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 1:33 PM
Jansen (pelvis) is throwing a bullpen session ahead of Friday's game against the Mariners, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Jansen was sent to the 15-day injured list May 28 with pelvic inflammation. The 38-year-old has struggled to a career-worst 4.80 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB across 15 innings this season. If he's able to work without setbacks during bullpens and live BP sessions, Jansen could potentially avoid a rehab assignment.
Jackson Jobe
Jackson Jobe Close to facing hitters again
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 9:23 AM
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Jobe (elbow) is expected to resume facing hitters in live batting practice "in a few weeks," Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Jobe has been conducting his rehab from last June's Tommy John surgery at the Tigers' facility in Lakeland, Fla., but he met up with the big club this week for its series versus Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field. He threw a lengthy bullpen session Tuesday in front of the Tigers' medical team and coaching staff, with Hinch noting afterward that the Detroit brass came away encouraged from the workout. Hinch said that Jobe has now completed about 10 or 11 bullpen sessions, setting the stage for him to take the next step forward in the rehab process by facing hitters. The Tigers remain hopeful that Jobe will be able to return from the 60-day injured list at some point after the All-Star break.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Shut down from activities
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 9:18 AM
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Baez (ankle) has been shut down from baseball activities for an unspecified length of time, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Initially placed on the 10-day injured list April 29 due to a right high-ankle sprain, Baez hadn't progressed as quickly as the Tigers had hoped while conducting his rehab program at the team's facility in Florida. After meeting with an ankle specialist Monday, Baez was advised to put his rehab on hold and rest up for the time being. Once he eventually starts ramping up again, Baez is likely to require a minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining the Tigers, so he's still expected to be multiple weeks away from being activated.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Trending toward short IL stint
Thu, Jun 4, 2026, 9:12 AM
Mize (adductor) tossed a bullpen session Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Detroit placed Mize on the 15-day injured list Friday due to right adductor inflammation, but his ability to step back on the mound just a few days later suggests that he's tracking toward an abbreviated stint on the shelf. The Tigers haven't decided on Mize's next steps, but assuming he bounces back well from the side session, he'll likely advance to facing hitters by the weekend. He's eligible to return from the IL on June 12 and could be activated without requiring a rehab assignment beforehand.
