Brant Hurter
Brant Hurter Earns another win in relief
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 4:57 PM
Hurter (3-0) tossed a scoreless inning of relief and earned the win in Sunday's 8-3 victory over the Reds.
Analysis: Hurter came on in the sixth inning with the Reds up 3-2, then picked up another win out of the bullpen when the Tigers scored four times in the seventh and twice more in the eighth. The lefty's three wins are already one behind his total from the 2025 regular season and half as many as he had during his encouraging 2024 rookie campaign. Hurter has been solid overall this year with a 2.45 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 11 innings so far.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Drives in two runs Sunday
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 4:47 PM
Carpenter went 2-for-5 with a two-run double and a run scored during the Tigers' 8-3 win over the Reds on Sunday.
Analysis: Carpenter opened Sunday's scoring with a two-run double in the first inning before coming home to score in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Matt Vierling. Carpenter has logged at least one hit in four of his last five games, and over that span he has gone 5-for-16 (.313) with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored.
Hao-Yu Lee
Hao-Yu Lee Smacks first major-league homer
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 4:40 PM
Lee went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run during the Tigers' 8-3 win over the Reds on Sunday.
Analysis: Lee didn't start in Sunday's game, but he came in to pinch hit for Colt Keith in the seventh inning, and the move paid off for the Tigers after Lee took the second pitch he saw from Sam Moll deep to center field for a two-run homer. It was the first major-league home run of Lee's career, and the 23-year-old should continue to spend time with the big club for as long as Zach McKinstry (hip/abdomen) is on the 10-day injured list.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Extends HR streak to five games
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 4:32 PM
Torkelson went 3-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run during Detroit's 8-3 win over Cincinnati on Sunday.
Analysis: Torkelson extended the Tigers' lead to 5-3 in the seventh inning after blasting a solo home run off Pierce Johnson. Torkelson has gone long in each of his last five games, a complete turnaround from how he started the 2026 season, as he failed to go long in each of his first 22 games of the campaign. Tuesday's series opener against Atlanta will be his opportunity to extend his homer streak to six games.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Collects three hits Sunday
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 4:27 PM
Torres went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and two additional runs scored during the Tigers' 8-3 win over the Reds on Sunday.
Analysis: Torres came home to score in both the first and seventh innings before extending the Tigers' lead to five runs with a two-run long shot off Jose Franco in the eighth. It was Torres' second home run of the season, with his first taking place April 4 against the Cardinals. He is slashing .250/.382/.330 with nine RBI and 18 runs scored across 123 plate appearances this season.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero No-decision against Cincinnati
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 4:15 PM
Montero did not factor into Sunday's decision against the Reds. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five across five innings.
Analysis: Montero was handed an early 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run double from Kerry Carpenter in the first inning. However, Montero was unable to maintain that cushion, giving up solo home runs to Nathaniel Lowe and JJ Bleday in the second and fourth frames, respectively, before yielding an RBI double in the fifth. Luckily for Montero, the Tigers' batters scored six runs across the seventh and eighth innings, which was enough for the right-hander to avoid the loss. He has allowed at least three earned runs in each of his last three starts, posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 16.2 innings in that span. Montero will look to get back into the win column in his next start, which is slated for next weekend at home against the Rangers.
Brenan Hanifee
Brenan Hanifee Summoned to majors
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 11:51 AM
The Tigers recalled Hanifee from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Hanifee has spent the first part of the campaign with Toledo, posting a 4.91 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB over 11 innings across 10 appearances. He's likely to fill a low-leverage spot in the bullpen in place of Connor Seabold (ankle), who landed on the 15-day injured list Sunday.
Connor Seabold
Connor Seabold Placed on injured list
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 11:47 AM
Detroit moved Seabold to the 15-day IL on Sunday due to left ankle inflammation, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Seabold has had a low-leverage role this season, compiling a 4.09 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB over 11 innings spanning eight appearances. He has a win on his ledger but no holds or saves. With Seabold slated to miss at least 15 days, the Tigers recalled righty reliever Brenan Hanifee from Triple-A to fill a spot in the bullpen.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Home run surge continues
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 9:51 AM
Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 9-2 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Torkelson extended his home-run streak to four games, which is the slugger's longest at the MLB level. He last went deep in four straight games during his sophomore season at Arizona State in 2019, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. This is also the first time any Detroit player has accomplished the feat since Ian Kinsler in 2016. Torkelson's surge has quieted some concerns over his slow start, as he didn't go deep once in the first 23 games of the year.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Taking seat Sunday
Sun, Apr 26, 2026, 9:18 AM
Baez isn't in the starting lineup Sunday versus Cincinnati.
Analysis: Baez started the Tigers' previous five games, making appearances at shortstop and second base and in center field. However, he'll begin Sunday on the bench after going 3-for-17 with one homer during that five-game stretch.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Taking seat Saturday
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 2:34 PM
Torres isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds.
Analysis: Torres will get a breather Saturday following a stretch of 12 straight starts, during which he slashed .250/.389/.273 with three RBI and five runs scored. His absence will move Javier Baez into the keystone and give Matt Vierling a start in center field.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Hits second home run in loss
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:50 AM
Baez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Baez launched his second home run of the season in the third inning against Cincinnati lefty Andrew Abbott. The veteran utility player continues to see regular playing time split between the middle infield and center field. While Baez's power production is down from earlier in his career, he is at least making solid contact with a .278 batting average, which would be his best mark since 2019.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Enters contest, goes deep in loss
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:44 AM
Carpenter went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Carpenter began this game on the bench, with Jahmai Jones getting the start to face Cincinnati lefty Andrew Abbott. The Tigers turned to Carpenter as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, and he ultimately launched his sixth home run of the season in the eighth. The 28-year-old outfielder is once again providing good pop with an .821 OPS through 24 games, and he's currently on pace to surpass last year's career-high total of 26 home runs if he stays healthy.
Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen Blows second save Friday
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:42 AM
Jansen (0-1) blew the save and took the loss Friday as the Tigers fell 9-8 to the Reds, giving up two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.
Analysis: The two teams took turns putting runs on the board in every inning except the first, and Jansen couldn't break that pattern in the ninth while trying to protect an 8-7 lead, allowing a two-out single to Spencer Steer before Nathaniel Lowe belted a walk-off homer. It was Jansen's second blown save of the year, but those are the only two times he's been scored upon in nine appearances so far in 2026. On the season, the veteran closer sports a 3.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB in 7.1 innings with six saves.
Riley Greene
Riley Greene Homers again Friday
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:40 AM
Greene went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Greene went deep for the second straight game and third time this season. While his power production is below his pace from last yar, when he homered 36 times during the regular season, Greene is still off to a good start at the plate overall, as the outfielder is slashing .295/.396/.474 through 27 games. The batting average and on-base percentage would be new career bests for Greene, as would his .870 OPS.
Framber Valdez
Framber Valdez Battles control in no-decision
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:37 AM
Valdez didn't factor into the decision Friday as the Tigers were downed 9-8 by the Reds, giving up two runs on four hits and five walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: The southpaw got only 47 of his 89 pitches into the strike zone before getting the hook. The five free passes were a season high, but Valdez has issued multiple walks in five straight starts. On the season he sports a 3.41 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB through 34.1 innings, and he faces a tough test in his next outing, scheduled to come on the road next week in Atlanta.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Extends homer streak
Sat, Apr 25, 2026, 8:36 AM
Torkelson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Torkelson has now homered in three straight contests after not going deep across the first 23 games of the season. The slugger is riding a four-game hitting streak overall, going 5-for-14 with a 1.509 OPS during the surge. Torkelson's overall numbers are still a bit below his usual standards, but he's quickly getting back on track after a slow start to the year.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Goes deep again Thursday
Thu, Apr 23, 2026, 5:39 PM
Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.
Analysis: Torkelson went without a home run for his first 23 games of the season, but he's now gone deep on consecutive days. The slugger also struck out two more times Thursday, and his strikeout rate is now a tick below 30 percent. Torkelson has always been known as player with plenty of swing-and-miss in his game who can also hit homers in bunches, and that seems to be the case once again in 2026.
Riley Greene
Riley Greene Hits second home run in win
Thu, Apr 23, 2026, 5:32 PM
Greene went 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.
Analysis: Greene got the scoring started for the Tigers in the first inning with his second home run of the season with a runner on and two outs. The outfielder has a strong .289/.396/.444 slash line, though his power production has been lagging after he popped 36 long balls during the 2025 regular season. Greene did say he was focusing on improved contact in spring training after striking out a team-record 201 times last year, and it's possible that he's trading in some homers for a better batting average and on-base percentage.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Stumbles in the seventh
Thu, Apr 23, 2026, 3:29 PM
Skubal did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Brewers. He allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out five over six innings.
Analysis: Skubal held Milwaukee to just one run in his first six innings but he'd run into trouble in the seventh, where he allowed three straight hits without recording an out. It's just the second time this season that Skubal's given up more than one earned run in a start. His ERA sits at 2.72 with a 0.99 WHIP and 38:6 K:BB across six outings (36.1 innings). Skubal tentatively lines up to face Atlanta on the road his next time out.
