Analysis: Palmquist has posted an inflated 7.20 ERA and 2.16 WHIP over 25 innings in 12 appearances, including five starts with Triple-A Albuquerque this season, and if he clears waivers, he'll likely remain with the Triple-A squad. Edouard Julien

Thu, May 21, 2026, 7:01 PM
Julien is not in the starting lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Julien will head to the bench as the Rockies get set to face left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound. Julien is in the middle of an 0-for-25 stretch at the plate over his last nine contests, so a night off will hopefully allow him to hit the reset button. Thu, May 21, 2026, 6:54 PM
Moniak is not in the starting lineup Thursday night against Arizona.
Analysis: Moniak will get a breather as the Rockies square off with left-handed starter Eduardo Rodriguez. The outfielder has gone 2-for-21 at the plate over the last seven games, so a day off might not hurt. Troy Johnston will draw the start in left field, batting eighth in the series opener.

The 27-year-old will make his Rockies debut at second base, batting ninth in the series opener in Arizona. The outfielder will be eligible to return to action May 30, and in the meantime, Mickey Moniak could enter the lineup against southpaws, while Jake McCarthy handle's the lion's share of the workload in center field.
Zach Agnos
Zach Agnos Working as opener Thursday
Thu, May 21, 2026, 9:59 AM
Agnos will serve as the Rockies' opening pitcher for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Tomoyuki Sugano had been on track to start Thursday, but he'll instead be pushed back to Friday while the Rockies opt for a bullpen game in the series opener. The upcoming start will be the first of Agnos' professional career, as he's worked exclusively as a reliever and in the minors and in 43 appearances with the Rockies over the past two seasons. Agnos should be capable of providing more length than the typical opener, however, as he's already covered four-plus innings on three different occasions this season.

Analysis: Mejia inherited the bases loaded with one out and the lead, but allowed a run to score on a pass ball by the catcher Brett Sullivan and on a single by Josh Jung. With several Rockies pitchers getting saves this season, Meija was in the mix for a closer role with three saves heading into this game. The right-hander should still be in the mix for save opportunities as he has not given up an earned run in seven relief appearances.
Kyle Freeland
Kyle Freeland No decision in loss
Wed, May 20, 2026, 8:50 PM
Freeland tossed 4.2 innings in Wednesday's 5-4 loss against the Rangers, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out five.
Analysis: Freeland could not make it through five innings in today's start as he has not made it past the fifth inning since April 7th. All five games in which Freeland has played since he got off the injured list, he has given up at least three runs for a 10.32 ERA on 22.2 innings. All of the runs today against the Rockies' Opening Day starter came with back-to-back long balls in the fourth by Ezequiel Duran and Jake Burger. The lefty is scheduled to make his next start against the Dodgers next week.

Analysis: Dollander landed on the 15-day injured list last week due to a right elbow sprain. He will opt for a rest-and-rehab treatment plan for the time being, though it will take a while for Dollander to rebuild his stamina following the shutdown period. A timetable for Dollander's return won't become clearer until he starts ramping up his throwing again.

Wed, May 20, 2026, 1:42 PM

Analysis: The transaction frees up a 40-man roster spot for right-hander Keegan Thompson, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Albuquerque. Crim has slashed .265/.339/.449 with seven home runs in 36 games this season with Albuquerque. As a 28-year-old with limited defensive flexibility, Crim stands a good chance of going unclaimed off waivers. If that happens, Crim could stick around in the organization.
Victor Vodnik
Victor Vodnik Shelved by elbow issue
Wed, May 20, 2026, 1:39 PM
The Rockies placed Vodnik on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right ulnar nerve inflammation.
Analysis: Vodnik still leads the Rockies with four saves this season but has struggled mightily over the last month, allowing 14 runs with an 11:9 K:BB over nine innings.
