Analysis: After Cade Smith had pitched back-to-back days, Gaddis got the call in the ninth inning Thursday. The right-hander worked around a leadoff single to close out a two-run victory, picking up his third save this season. Gaddis has turned in seven straight scoreless innings, allowing just four hits in that span. His ERA sits at 3.11 through 63.2 innings this season with a 1.18 WHIP and 65:21 K:BB.

The 26-year-old right-hander's lowered his ERA to 4.34 on the season with a 1.23 WHIP and 157:52 K:BB through 30 starts (176.1 innings) this season. Bibee will look to keep rolling in his next outing, tentatively scheduled as a home rematch with the Tigers next week.

Thu, Sep 18, 2025, 9:46 AM
Kwan went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Tigers.
Analysis: The Guardians' leadoff hitter extended his on-base streak to 12 games while stealing his 20th base of the season, leaving him one shy of the career high he set in 2023. Over those 12 contests, Kwan is slashing .304/.407/.348 with six steals, five RBI, seven runs and an 8:3 BB:K.
Gavin Williams
Gavin Williams Fans nine in 11th win
Thu, Sep 18, 2025, 9:43 AM
Williams (11-5) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing three hits and two walks over five scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Tigers. He struck out nine.
Analysis: The right-hander watched Detroit hitters foul off a whopping 28 pitches to force his early exit, but Williams was otherwise dominant to kick off the combined shutout, racking up 30 called or swinging strikes among his 100 pitches. He's given up three runs or fewer in six straight trips to the mound as the Guardians make a late push for a wild-card spot, posting a 1.87 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 34:14 K:BB through 33.2 innings over that stretch and going 4-1. Williams lines up to make his next start at home early next week in a rematch with the Tigers.

George Valera Contributes to win
Thu, Sep 18, 2025, 8:19 AM
Valera served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Wednesday's 4-0 win over Detroit.
Analysis: Valera, who remained stapled to the bench for the previous four games, rejoined the starting nine Wednesday and contributed to Cleveland's sixth straight win. He singled in the club's first run and then walked in the ninth inning before being lifted for a pinch runner, who eventually scored an insurance run. Valera has started six of the Guardians' 16 games since having his contract selected at the beginning of the month.

Bo Naylor Guardians' insurance provider
Thu, Sep 18, 2025, 8:05 AM
Naylor went 1-for-5 with two RBI in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Tigers.
Analysis: Naylor picked a good time to extend his hit streak to six games, when he stroked a two-out, two-run single in the top of the ninth inning to give the Guardians insurance runs. The catcher, who is batting just .188 this season, has gone 8-for-22 with three doubles, one home run and seven RBI during his six-game streak. Cleveland, which is 2.5 games outside a playoff spot, has won all six games in its fight to sneak into the posteason.
Daniel Schneemann
Daniel Schneemann Exiting starting nine
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 2:52 PM
Schneemann is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Detroit.
Analysis: Schneemann had started the last three games and nine of the last 10 tilts, but he'll begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. Nolan Jones will patrol center field and bat seventh for the Guardians.
Cade Smith
Cade Smith Collects win after blown save
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 9:08 AM
Smith (7-5) blew the save but picked up the win Tuesday, striking out two and giving up a solo home run in the ninth inning of a 7-5 extra-inning victory over the Tigers.
Analysis: Called in to protect a 3-2 lead, Smith instead served up a game-tying homer to Kerry Carpenter, only for the Cleveland offense to erupt for four runs in the top of the 10th. It's the right-hander's first blown save since Aug. 22, ending a streak of eight straight successful conversions, and since taking over the closer role in late July he's posted a 3.38 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and eye-popping 33:2 K:BB in 24 innings while securing 12 of 16 save chances.
Joey Cantillo
Joey Cantillo Stingy in no-decision Tuesday
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 9:04 AM
Cantillo didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Tigers, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: The southpaw left the mound with the Guardians clinging to a 2-1 lead, but both bullpens struggled before the game was eventually decided in the 10th. Cantillo has given up one run or fewer in five straight starts, posting a stellar 1.21 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB over his last 29.2 innings. He's scheduled to make his next start on the road this weekend in Minnesota.

Jose Ramirez Contributes in win
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 7:28 AM
Ramirez went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 7-5 extra-inning win over Detroit.
Analysis: Ramirez was part of a four-run 10th inning when he doubled and scored. The double was one of four consecutive extra-base hits in the frame. Earlier, he singled, stole a base and scored in the sixth. The double was his 30th, giving him a sixth straight season with at least 30 doubles, while the theft was his 39th. Cleveland's won five straight and moved within 2.5 games of the final wild-card spot.
Gabriel Arias
Gabriel Arias Plays role in win
Wed, Sep 17, 2025, 7:17 AM
Arias went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Tigers.
Analysis: Arias swatted a solo home run in the fourth inning and then singled in the final run as part of the team's four-run 10th inning. The homer was his career-high 11th to along with 50 RBI. Since returning from a wrist injury last week, Arias is 4-for-15 with a double, a homer, two RBI, one steal and two runs scored over four contests.
John Means
John Means Roughed up in rehab start
Mon, Sep 15, 2025, 8:34 AM
Means (elbow) allowed six earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Columbus on Sunday.
Analysis: Means navigated minimal traffic over two scoreless innings to begin the game but ran into trouble in the third, when he allowed two solo home runs. His struggles continued into the fourth inning, when he walked the bases loaded before giving up a two-run double. Means then balked in the go-ahead run. The left-hander is now six starts into his rehab assignment, and he's yet to find much success since shifting his assignment to Triple-A in late August, producing a 9.00 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 11:10 K:BB in 15 innings over four outings with Columbus. While Means has built his pitch count up to 82 and appears to be ready from a workload standpoint to take on a traditional starting role, his poor form at Triple-A could make the Guardians reluctant to activate him from the 60-day injured list during the upcoming week. The Guardians will have a stretch of six games in five days due to a doubleheader Saturday in Minnesota, but since the team is already running with a six-man rotation, Means may not be called upon to make a spot start for the big club.
Bo Naylor

Sun, Sep 14, 2025, 6:16 PM
Naylor went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's 3-2 victory over the White Sox.
Analysis: The Cleveland backstop plated all of his team's runs, capped by a 375-foot solo shot off Chicago reliever Brandon Eisert in the seventh. Naylor has found a groove in September, as he's batting .310 (9-for-29) with a homer, four doubles, six runs scored and four RBI this month. Overall, the 25-year-old is now slashing .187/.281/.362 with 12 homers, 42 runs scored and 35 RBI across 377 total plate appearances.

Smith pitched a scoreless frame while allowing two hits and no walks to collect the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the White Sox. He struck out two.
Analysis: Smith worked around a pair of singles to smoothly secure the save on 12 pitches and tally his seventh consecutive blank appearance. Over that stretch, the 26-year-old righty has converted six saves while producing a 14:0 K:BB in seven innings. Through 67.2 total frames, Smith now sports a 3.06 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 96:19 K:BB.

Sun, Sep 14, 2025, 5:54 PM
Cecconi allowed two runs on three hits and one walk over 5.2 innings while not factoring into the decision Sunday against the White Sox. He struck out four.
Analysis: The 26-year-old gave up just two extra-base knocks in this 93-pitch appearance, and both scored the pair of runs he yielded. Miguel Vargas plated the first Chicago run with a double in the fourth before Chase Meidroth added a solo homer in the fifth. Cecconi has now pitched to a 4.39 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 98:30 K:BB across 121 total frames. The Cleveland right-hander projects to face off with divisional foes Minnesota for the first time in his career next weekend on the road.
Jhonkensy Noel
Jhonkensy Noel Adds insurance
Sun, Sep 14, 2025, 7:54 AM
Noel hit a pinch-hit home run in Saturday's 3-1 win over the White Sox.
Analysis: Noel entered as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth inning and blasted his fourth home run, giving the Guardians a two-run cushion. It was his second home run since being called up when rosters expanded at the beginning of the month, and both have come against southpaws. Noel will continue to start against left-handers, but he hasn't shown much of a split advantage in 2025. Noel has a .412 OPS against lefties and .451 against righties.
CJ Kayfus
CJ Kayfus Smacks two-run homer
Sat, Sep 13, 2025, 8:26 PM
Kayfus went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run during the Guardians' 3-1 win over the White Sox on Saturday.
Analysis: Kayfus gave the Guardians the lead in the second inning with a long ball off Davis Martin. Kayfus has hit a home run in two consecutive outings and is up to four on the season. He has gone 7-for-23 (.304) with seven RBI and four doubles in nine games since Sept. 1.

Sat, Sep 13, 2025, 8:21 PM
Smith struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning to secure the save in Saturday's 3-1 win over the White Sox.
Analysis: Tasked with protecting the Guardians' two-run lead, Smith struck out the first two batters he faced in the ninth inning before getting Andrew Benintendi to fly out to center field. Smith has converted each of his last seven save opportunities and has struck out 12 batters across his last six outings.

Sat, Sep 13, 2025, 8:17 PM
Messick (3-0) earned the win against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four across six innings.
Analysis: Messick got off to a slow start by allowing three hits and a run in the first inning, but the 24-year-old southpaw kept the White Sox off the board over the next five frames. He has logged four quality starts in five outings since making his major-league debut Aug. 20 and sports a 1.84 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across 29.1 innings this season. Messick is in line to make his next start against the Twins on the road next weekend.
Tanner Bibee
Tanner Bibee Tosses two-hit shutout
Sat, Sep 13, 2025, 9:28 AM
Bibee (10-11) picked up the win Friday, allowing two hits over nine scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the White Sox. He struck out 10 without walking a batter.
Analysis: Both hits were one-out singles in the third inning, and the right-hander quickly escaped the jam by coaxing a double play grounder out of Mike Tauchman. Bibee racked up 35 called or swinging strikes among his 103 pitches (74 total strikes) as he produced his first career shutout, and the first by any Cleveland pitcher since Zach Plesac in 2019. The 10 Ks also tied Bibee's season high, and he's lasted at least six innings in four straight trips to the mound, posting a 3.54 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB in 28 innings over that stretch. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Minnesota.
