Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 9:43 PM
Garcia is expected to be called up from Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Garcia is on track to make his major-league debut during the Reds' three-game series at home against the Brewers beginning Monday. The 31-year-old has posted a 3.03 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 54 strikeouts over 35.2 innings in 21 appearances, including two starts, with Louisville this season. Garcia will provide Cincinnati with another right-handed option out of the bullpen versus Milwaukee.
Tony Santillan
Tony Santillan Locks down two-inning save
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 4:30 PM
Santillan earned the save in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Yankees, striking out one over two perfect innings.
Analysis: Santillan was impressive Sunday, turning in his first multi-inning effort of the season to lock down his fifth save. After a rough stretch earlier this year, Santillan's now turned in seven straight scoreless appearances, allowing just four hits while striking out six across seven innings in that span. Overall, his ERA sits at 5.10 with a 1.40 WHIP and 28:13 K:BB across 30 innings.
Chase Burns
Chase Burns Notches ninth win
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 4:21 PM
Burns (9-1) earned the win Sunday over the Yankees, allowing a run on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: Burns turned in another strong outing Sunday, with New York's lone run coming on Ben Rice's home run in the third inning. The 23-year-old Burns has now held opponents to two runs or fewer while going at least five innings in each of his last 12 starts -- he's gone 8-0 with a 2.05 ERA across 70.1 innings in that span. Burns' ERA is down to 2.00 through 15 starts (85.2 innings) this season with a 1.05 WHIP and 102:29 K:BB. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently lined up to come on the road against the Pirates next weekend.
Elly De La Cruz
Elly De La Cruz Due back Tuesday
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 1:09 PM
De La Cruz (hamstring) is scheduled to return from the IL on Tuesday against the Brewers, Charlie Goldsmith reports.
Analysis: There was some discussion about De La Cruz returning for the start of the Reds' series against the Brewers on Monday, but instead he'll be activated for the final two games of the set before a team off day Thursday. The star shortstop's return will bump Matt McLain back to second base, where he'll have to compete for playing time with Spencer Steer and rookie Edwin Arroyo.
Matt McLain
Matt McLain Heading to bench for series finale
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 9:22 AM
McLain is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Spencer Steer and Edwin Arroyo will serve as the Reds' starters in the middle infield while McLain gets a breather in the series finale. McLain had started 13 straight games, slashing .233/.365/.512 with three home runs, four stolen bases, four RBI and eight runs during that stretch.
Spencer Steer
Spencer Steer Creates separation in win
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 9:14 AM
Steer went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 10-2 win over the Yankees.
Analysis: Steer broke open a close game in the fifth inning by taking Will Warren deep to give the Reds a 6-1 lead. It was the 12th home run of the season for Steer, who has hit a rough patch at the plate this month. He's batted just .067 (3-for-45) over the last 14 contests. There is a silver lining, however, as all three hits have left the park, and Steer's knocked in eight runs during the slump.
Emilio Pagan
Emilio Pagan Feels good following live BP
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 8:54 AM
Pagan (hamstring) threw 20 pitches and used his entire repertoire in a live batting practice session/simulated game Friday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: This was Pagan's first time facing live hitters since landing on the injured list in May, and the right-hander was ebullient following the session. "The fastball command was good, stuff was good. Physically, I felt strong. I'm really happy with how it went," Pagan said. "I felt like I could have thrown probably another 15-20 more, too. I felt like I was getting stronger as I went. That's a good sign." Next up for Cincinnati's closer is another live BP session Monday, which could lead to a rehab assignment, according to Reds manager Terry Francona.
Sal Stewart
Sal Stewart Powers rout with six RBI
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 9:10 PM
Stewart went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and six RBI in Saturday's 10-2 rout over the Yankees.
Analysis: The rookie slugger struck out in his first plate appearance but tormented New York the rest of the afternoon, putting a two-run double off the left-field wall in the third inning and adding a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Stewart wrapped up his big day with a bases-loaded two-bagger to the left-center gap in the eighth. The six RBI tied his career high, a mark he first set April 15 against the Giants, and through 75 contests this season he's slashing .252/.346/.457 with 14 homers, 11 steals, 40 runs and 53 RBI.
Andrew Abbott
Andrew Abbott Stifles Yankees for fifth win
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 9:05 PM
Abbott (5-4) picked up the win in Saturday's 10-2 rout of the Yankees, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: The southpaw served up a solo shot to Paul Goldschmidt in the first inning, but Abbott shut down the home side from there and got plenty of run support before exiting after 97 pitches (59 strikes). It was his first win since May 20, but Abbott has given up three runs or fewer in 10 straight trips to the mound, a stretch in which he's delivered a 2.41 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 45:26 K:BB over 56 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is set to come on the road next weekend in Pittsburgh.
Eugenio Suarez
Eugenio Suarez Idle Saturday
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 9:16 AM
Suarez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Suarez will move to the bench Saturday after going 1-for-4 with three strikeouts during Friday's loss. His absence will put Nathaniel Lowe at the DH spot and Spencer Steer at first base, allowing Noelvi Marte to pick up a start in right field.
Tyler Stephenson
Tyler Stephenson Getting breather Saturday
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 9:13 AM
Stephenson isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: After going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Friday night, Stephenson will get a break during Saturday's day game. Jose Trevino will start behind the plate and bat eighth.
Pierce Johnson
Pierce Johnson Begins rehab assignment
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 8:31 AM
Johnson (elbow) allowed one run on two hits and struck out one over one inning for Triple-A Louisville on Friday.
Analysis: Johnson began a rehab assignment Friday, throwing 17 pitches (13 strikes). He was originally expected to begin the assignment Thursday, but it was pushed out a day. Johnson is not expected to need much more than one appearance and could rejoin Cincinnati this weekend.
Elly De La Cruz
Elly De La Cruz Begins rehab assignment
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 8:25 AM
De La Cruz (hamstring) went 2-for-2 with a walk and a home run for Triple-A Louisville on Friday.
Analysis: De La Cruz kicked off a rehab assignment Friday, and as planned, played five innings at shortstop. The next step, according to Brent Maguire of MLB.com, is a full game Saturday as the designated hitter followed by nine innings at shortstop Sunday. De La Cruz could rejoin the Reds at some point next week.
Rhett Lowder
Rhett Lowder Hit hard in Friday's loss
Sat, Jun 20, 2026, 8:24 AM
Lowder (3-4) took the loss Friday as the Reds were blanked 5-0 by the Yankees, giving up four runs on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: While the right-hander didn't get any help from his offense, Lowder also gave up plenty of loud contact. Half the hits off him went for extra bases, including second-inning homers by Jazz Chisholm and Ben Rice that accounted for all the damage off Lowder. He's also issued multiple free passes in five straight starts, stumbling to a 7.85 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and 17:18 K:BB in 18.1 innings over that stretch. With Hunter Greene (elbow) having begun a rehab assignment, the clock is likely ticking on Lowder's time in the big-league rotation. He'll look to right the ship in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Brewers.
Hunter Greene
Hunter Greene Four scoreless in first rehab start
Fri, Jun 19, 2026, 8:17 AM
Greene (elbow) struck out six over four scoreless frames Thursday in his first rehab start with the Reds' Arizona Complex League affiliate.
Analysis: Greene yielded two hits, walked one and topped out at 101.1 mph on the radar gun, per Lance McAlister of 700 WLW Sports Talk. He got his pitch count up to 54, throwing 39 pitches for strikes. It's an encouraging first rehab outing for Greene, who is coming back from mid-March surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow. It's unclear when or where Greene's next rehab start will take place, but the Reds expect the right-hander to rejoin the rotation before the All-Star break.
Will Banfield
Will Banfield Joins 40-man roster
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 1:00 PM
The Reds selected Banfield's contract Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville.
Analysis: Banfield will remain in the minors despite joining the 40-man roster, claiming the spot that previously belonged to P.J. Higgins. Banfield has spent the entire season at Louisville while slashing .281/.337/.439 with six home runs, 34 RBI and 26 runs across 189 plate appearances. He'd likely be promoted if Tyler Stephenson or Jose Trevino were to miss any amount of time.
P.J. Higgins
P.J. Higgins Outrighted off 40-man
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 12:56 PM
Higgins cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Louisville.
Analysis: After losing his place on the active roster Sunday following Jose Trevino's return from the injured list, Higgins will now also be booted off the Reds' 40-man roster. The 33-year-old backstop posted a .545 OPS across 14 games with the big club and hasn't been better since moving to Triple-A, slashing just .125/.375/.125 over 48 plate appearances. Fellow catcher Will Banfield was selected to the 40-man roster in a corresponding move.
JJ Bleday
JJ Bleday Produces lone run in loss
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 7:17 AM
Bleday went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in Wednesday's 9-1 loss to the Mets.
Analysis: Bleday's second-inning sacrifice fly was all the Reds could muster. He's shown a penchant for delivering with runners in scoring position, posting a .915 OPS and 20 RBI over 38 at-bats with RISP. Bleday's 35 RBI in just 45 games rank third on the team.
Ke'Bryan Hayes
Ke'Bryan Hayes Begins hitting
Thu, Jun 18, 2026, 7:08 AM
Hayes (back) has begun hitting at the Reds' training facility in Arizona, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Hayes is also working to improve core stabilization with an eye toward preventing continued issues with the back. He's served the 10-day minimum requirement on the injured list and can be activated at any time, but the report indicates his return as to be determined.
Nick Lodolo
Nick Lodolo Routed by Mets
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 4:47 PM
Lodolo (2-2) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up seven runs on 11 hits and two walks over 4.2 innings as the Reds were routed 9-1 by the Mets. He struck out two.
Analysis: The southpaw escaped potential trouble in the first two innings thanks to double plays, but Lodolo's luck began to run out in the third as New York strung together three straight two-out RBI singles. He finally got the hook after 90 pitches (54 strikes), with the only silver lining on Lodolo's performance being that he didn't serve up a homer for only the second time in eight starts this season. The 28-year-old has been unable to find any sort of rhythm since missing the first six weeks of the campaign with blister issues, and he'll carry a 6.12 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB through 42.2 innings into his next outing, which is set to come at home early next week against the Brewers.
