Rhett Lowder
Rhett Lowder Still no baseball activity
Fri, Jul 11, 2025, 7:04 AM
Lowder (forearm/oblique) continues to rehab in Arizona but has not yet participated in more advanced baseball activity, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Lowder endured elbow soreness and a forearm injury during spring training before an oblique injury paused his rehab assignment in May. The oblique is the issue now and threatens to scrap a year of development for the 23-year-old right-hander.
Wade Miley
Wade Miley Playing catch
Fri, Jul 11, 2025, 6:56 AM
Miley (forearm) is playing catch and is being given a chance to return at some point in 2025, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Miley rehabbed an elbow injury early this season and had a couple of encouraging starts before landing on the 15-day injured list with a left flexor strain. The report suggests that a return this season is still up in the air.
Nick Lodolo
Nick Lodolo Quiets Miami in six shutout frames
Fri, Jul 11, 2025, 2:24 AM
Lodolo (6-6) notched the win Thursday against the Marlins, giving up no runs on three hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: Lodolo scattered three singles while enjoying his fourth appearance of the season without allowing an earned run. The 27-year-old left-hander has now worked at least six frames on 11 occasions among 19 outings this year, and each of those performances have been quality starts. Across 106.2 innings to close out his first half of 2025, Lodolo owns a strong 3.38 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 97:22 K:BB.
Austin Hays
Austin Hays Plates three in multi-hit game
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 9:57 PM
Hays went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a walk in Thursday's 6-0 win over Miami.
Analysis: It was Hays' first game with multiple hits and three RBI since June 30. Although the 30-year-old outfielder started against right-hander Cal Quantrill on Thursday, most of the former's playing time should come versus southpaws going forward. Hays is hitting .366 with one home run, six doubles, three triples and eight RBI over 41 at-bats against left-handed pitching, but he's batting a weaker .248 versus righties in 2025.
Spencer Steer
Spencer Steer Keeps raking with solo shot
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 9:51 PM
Steer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 6-0 win over Miami.
Analysis: Steer crushed his 11th homer of the season and his second of the month of July so far. Additionally, the 27-year-old first baseman has registered at least one hit in 16 of his last 20 outings. During that span, Steer is hitting a torrid .361 with six long balls, five doubles, 16 RBI and two stolen bases covering 72 at-bats.
Tyler Stephenson
Tyler Stephenson Receiving rest Thursday
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 12:22 PM
Stephenson is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins.
Analysis: Jose Trevino will get another turn behind the plate while Stephenson heads to the bench for the second time in the series. Stephenson still appears to be the Reds' clear No. 1 backstop, but he's been in the midst of a lull at the dish of late, having gone 6-for-33 with no home runs and a 33.3 percent strikeout rate over his last 12 games.
Elly De La Cruz
Elly De La Cruz Doubles twice in win
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 8:26 AM
De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-2 win over Miami.
Analysis: De La Cruz had run-producing doubles in the first and fourth innings. The extra-base hits were his first in 14 games. De La Cruz, who was named to the NL All-Star team for a second straight season, has a .277/.349/.487 slash line with 18 home runs (T-22nd in MLB), 62 RBI (13th), 69 runs (third) and 22 steals (tied for eighth) through 93 games.
Christian Encarnacion-Strand
Christian Encarnacion-Strand On bench again
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 8:05 AM
Encarnacion-Strand went unused off the bench in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Marlins.
Analysis: Since Noelvi Marte's return from the injured list last Friday, Encarnacion-Strand has started once over the last five games. For now, Marte and Spencer Steer will continue to garner most of the starts at the corner-infield spots, while Austin Hays and Gavin Lux appear set to share left field and the designated-hitter spot when the Reds face right-handed pitching. Encarnacion-Strand has batted just .179 over his last 17 games, and with his playing time on the downswing, he could soon be headed for a demotion to Triple-A Louisville.
Hunter Greene
Hunter Greene Facing uncertain timetable
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 2:46 PM
Reds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that Greene (groin) is headed to the team's spring training facility in Arizona to continue his rehab, adding that "there's no roadmap" for the next step in the pitcher's progression, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Greene recently suffered a setback with his right groin strain, and while an MRI didn't reveal any new injury, he is still feeling symptoms. The Reds want Greene to feel totally healthy and confident his groin issue is behind him, so the club will proceed cautiously with the pitcher's rehab. Greene has been shelved twice this season with the groin problem and has not pitched since early June.
Matt McLain
Matt McLain Snaps hitless run
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 6:35 AM
McLain went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 12-2 loss to the Marlins.
Analysis: McLain got the Reds out early with a first-inning home run, his 10th of the season and first in 14 games. The long ball snapped an 0-for-18 run for McLain, who's batting just .107 (3-for-28) during the month of July.
Jake Fraley
Jake Fraley Begins rehab assignment
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 6:23 AM
Fraley (shoulder) went 1-for-3 with a run scored for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.
Analysis: Fraley kicked off a rehab assignment Tuesday, playing five innings in left field while getting the maximum number of plate appearances as the leadoff batter. The Reds plan to have him make another two appearances before Fraley is re-evaluated, per MLB.com.
Nick Martinez
Nick Martinez Blasted for 10 runs
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 10:26 PM
Martinez (6-9) yielded 10 runs on seven hits and three walks over five-plus innings Tuesday, striking out two and taking a loss against Miami.
Analysis: Martinez delivered two scoreless frames before the Marlins piled up seven runs in a nightmare third inning. He settled back in before more struggles in the sixth; Martinez put three straight runners on base without recording an out and was charged with all three runs after he was removed from the game. He briefly moved to a bullpen role after allowing seven runs against the Twins on June 19 and has since given up 15 runs over 22.2 innings (5.96 ERA). Martinez's ERA has jumped from 3.48 to 4.85 since the start of June. He's currently expected to face the Rockies at home this weekend. Martinez could be in danger of being moved to the bullpen again sometime after the All-Star break when Hunter Greene (groin) or Rhett Lowder (forearm) come back from the injured list.
Jake Fraley
Jake Fraley Cleared to begin rehab assignment
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 11:09 AM
The Reds sent Fraley (shoulder) to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment.
Analysis: Fraley has been sidelined since late June after being diagnosed with a partial tear of the labrum in his right shoulder. He will eventually need to undergo surgery to repair the shoulder, but for now, Fraley will attempt to play through the injury after being given a cortisone shot. Fraley isn't expected to require an extensive rehab assignment, so he might be ready to come off the 10-day injured list when the Reds begin their final series before the All-Star break Friday versus the Rockies.
Brady Singer
Brady Singer Yields two runs in losing effort
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 10:30 PM
Singer (7-7) took the loss Monday against Miami, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: After fanning 20 in 14 innings over his three previous starts, Singer struggled to keep the Marlins lineup off balance, generating a paltry six whiffs out of his 96 total pitches. The Cincinnati right-hander coughed up both runs in the fifth inning -- the first on an Agustin Ramirez double and the second on a Liam Hicks single. Singer has pitched to a 4.32 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 83:39 K:BB across 93.2 frames in his first season with the Reds. He is currently slated to make his next start against the Rockies at home this weekend.
Hunter Greene
Hunter Greene Avoids major setback
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 10:24 PM
The team announced Monday that Greene's MRI didn't reveal any significant damage, and manager Terry Francona noted the right-hander is likely experiencing fatigue, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Greene was scheduled to make a start with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, but the outing was put on hold after he felt tightness in his right groin. However, the club was pleased with the MRI results, and Francona indicated that Greene could be lacking confidence that his body will hold up. "He's still feeling it at times. I think there's not a lot of confidence there yet," said Francona. "I think it feels fatigued. We want to do the right thing. Sometimes, it's very difficult. That's why we got the MRI. You ask somebody to go out there, let it loose and go 100 mph, you don't want them worrying about something." While further imaging brought positive news, the Reds are expected to give Greene some more time during his rehab assignment to ensure he's back at full strength before bringing him back from the 15-day injured list.
Hunter Greene
Hunter Greene Not ready to make rehab start
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 4:06 PM
Greene won't make a rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday as planned after he felt renewed tightness in his right groin, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Greene may have had an outside chance at pitching in the Reds' final game before the All-Star break Sunday versus the Rockies if he had made it out of the rehab start no worse for the wear, but the setback with the groin officially closes the door on a first-half return. The right-hander labeled himself as day-to-day and said he underwent another MRI, but the Reds have yet to reveal the findings from his latest medical testing. Once the MRI results are in, the Reds will likely have a clearer idea regarding when Greene can ramp up his throwing again and potentially head out on a rehab assignment. Greene was initially placed on the injured list June 4 due to the Grade 1 right groin strain, and he also required an epidural shortly thereafter to address back soreness.
Christian Encarnacion-Strand
Christian Encarnacion-Strand Losing out on playing time
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 2:07 PM
Encarnacion-Strand is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.
Analysis: With Noelvi Marte returning from the injured list Friday, the Reds' position-player group is now back to full strength with the exception of outfielder Jake Fraley (shoulder), who remains on the shelf. As a result of the logjam in the infield, Encarnacion-Strand has unsurprisingly found himself as the odd man out of the lineup more frequently. Encarnacion-Strand will head to the bench for the third time in four games since Marte's activation.
Rece Hinds
Rece Hinds Sent back to Triple-A
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 1:51 PM
The Reds optioned Hinds to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
Analysis: After being promoted from Louisville on June 22, Hinds appeared in seven games for the Reds and went 2-for-23 with four runs scored. In a corresponding move, the Reds reinstated Connor Joe (illness) from the 10-day injured list, and he'll likely replace Hinds as a short-side platoon player in the corner outfield.
Connor Joe
Connor Joe Back from 10-day injured list
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 1:49 PM
The Reds activated Joe (illness) from the 10-day injured list Monday.
Analysis: Joe was shelved for nearly two weeks while dealing with a bout of hand, foot and mouth disease. He's ready to go after a brief rehab assignment and should resume his role as a short-side platoon bat.
Graham Ashcraft
Graham Ashcraft Works scoreless frame
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 7:21 AM
Ashcraft walked one and struck out two over a scoreless inning in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Phillies.
Analysis: Ashcraft, fresh off the injured list Friday, had a pair of scoreless outings over the weekend. Both appearances were in the seventh inning, as Ashcraft maintains a late-game role out of the Cincinnati bullpen. He has a 3.96 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP with 41 strikeouts and 15 walks across 36.1 innings.
