Tony Santillan
Tony Santillan Notches first save of season
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 5:27 PM
Santillan struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Saturday to record his first save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Twins.
Analysis: Emilio Pagan was able to pitch Friday night after sustaining a minor hamstring strain earlier in the week and picked up up his sixth save, but he was held out the next afternoon while Santillan handled the ninth. Santillan has gotten better results in the early part of the season -- he has yet to allow a run in 10 innings with a 0.90 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB, compared to Pagan's 4.35 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB in 10.1 frames -- but as yet, there's been no suggestion the Reds are thinking about making a switch at closer as long as their incumbent is healthy.
Andrew Abbott
Andrew Abbott Escapes with no-decision Saturday
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 5:21 PM
Abbott didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Twins, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: The southpaw didn't have his best stuff, tossing just 52 of 97 pitches for strikes and managing only eight swinging strikes. Abbott left the mound headed for his third loss of the season, but the Reds were able to rally late to take him off the hook. He'll carry a 5.84 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB through 24.2 innings into his next outing, which is set to come at home next weekend against the Tigers.
Spencer Steer
Spencer Steer Idle Saturday
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 10:01 AM
Steer isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus Minnesota.
Analysis: Steer will catch a breather Saturday after going 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts across his last two games. While he sits, Will Benson, TJ Friedl and Rece Hinds will form Cincinnati's outfield trio.
Matt McLain
Matt McLain Sitting Saturday
Sat, Apr 18, 2026, 9:57 AM
McLain isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: McLain will get a day off to reset after going 0-for-11 with five strikeouts and six walks over his last four games. His absence will put Sal Stewart at second base, opening up first for Nathaniel Lowe.
Brandon Williamson
Brandon Williamson Earns second win of 2026
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 10:25 PM
Williamson (2-1) earned the win against the Twins on Friday, allowing one run on three hits and four walks while striking out two across 5.1 innings.
Analysis: Williamson's four free passes are a bit of a concern, and he generated just six whiffs while tossing 50 strikes on 93 pitches (53.8 percent). However, he kept the Twins to just one run, courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Austin Martin. After yielding six earned runs in his first start of the season against the Pirates on March 31, Williamson has given up just four runs over his last 16 innings, though he's also walked 11 batters in that span. He is lined up to face the Rays on the road next week, which could be Williamson's last turn in the rotation if Nick Lodolo (finger) is activated from the 15-day injured list.
Emilio Pagan
Emilio Pagan Earns save against Minnesota
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 10:13 PM
Pagan (hamstring) collected his sixth save of the season Friday in the Reds' 2-1 win over the Twins, when he struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning.
Analysis: Pagan injured his hamstring in his last outing against the Giants on Tuesday, but he was cleared to come out of the bullpen Friday to protect the Reds' one-run lead in the ninth. He needed just 13 pitches (eight strikes) to get through the frame for his sixth save of the season, which is tied with Mason Miller and Paul Sewald for most in the National League. It was a good sign to see Pagan back on the mound, but his usage over the weekend will be worth monitoring.
Jose Trevino
Jose Trevino Catches, hits in cage
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 10:05 PM
Trevino (back) caught two simulated innings and hit in the batting cages Friday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Trevino has elevated his baseball activity this week, which began with light throwing sessions. If he comes out of Friday's activity without an issue, manager Terry Francona will begin ramping up his activity.
Nick Lodolo
Nick Lodolo Throws sim game
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 9:59 PM
Lodolo (blister) threw 31 pitches across two simulated innings of batting practice Friday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: A recurring blister, which first popped up toward the end of spring training, landed Lodolo on the injured list to start the season. If he comes out of Friday's session without a setback, the Reds are hoping the left-hander can build up to three innings Tuesday.
Eugenio Suarez
Eugenio Suarez Powers Reds' offense Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 9:52 PM
Suarez went 2-for-4 with a two-run double during the Reds' 2-1 win over the Twins on Friday.
Analysis: Suarez laced a two-run double to center field in the fourth inning, which turned out to be the decisive runs in Cincinnati's win Friday. Two of the 34-year-old slugger's five multi-hit games on the year have come over his last three outings. Since April 1, Suarez has gone 14-for-49 (.286) with seven walks, two home runs and seven RBI.
Ke'Bryan Hayes
Ke'Bryan Hayes Taking seat Friday
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 3:30 PM
Hayes is absent from the lineup for Friday's tilt in Minnesota.
Analysis: Hayes is a woeful 3-for-47 with zero extra-base hits and zero RBI in his first 17 games this season. His defense at third base has helped keep him in the lineup most days, but the Reds will have no choice but to cut his playing time if Hayes' offense doesn't at least get to a passable level. Eugenio Suarez is at the hot corner Friday, and Nathaniel Lowe will serve as the designated hitter.
Rece Hinds
Rece Hinds Not in Cincinnati lineup
Fri, Apr 17, 2026, 3:27 PM
Hinds is out of the lineup for Friday's contest in Minnesota.
Analysis: Hinds started each of the last three games after he was promoted from Triple-A Louisville, but he'll grab a seat in this one. Will Benson will patrol right field and bat eighth for the Reds.
Chase Burns
Chase Burns Rebounds after tough start
Thu, Apr 16, 2026, 7:40 PM
Burns settled for a no-decision Thursday against the Giants, allowing no runs on two hits and one walk while striking out four in six innings of work.
Analysis: After a tough start last time out in which Burns surrendered five runs to the Angels, the young hurler looked much more like the Burns from the first two starts of the season. Aside from the 5.1 innings pitched against the Angels, the 23-year-old has allowed just one run and struck out 20 batters in 17 innings. All told, he still has a very respectable 2.42 ERA and 1.07 WHIP on the season. His next scheduled outing pits him against the Rays, fourth in MLB with a .266 team batting average, on Tuesday.
Tyler Stephenson
Tyler Stephenson Day off Thursday
Thu, Apr 16, 2026, 9:11 AM
Stephenson is not in the lineup for Thursday's tilt versus the Giants.
Analysis: Stephenson started behind the dish in the first two games of the series, so he'll get a breather for Thursday's matinee. P.J. Higgins will do the catching and bat ninth for the Reds.
Eugenio Suarez
Eugenio Suarez Snaps homer drought
Thu, Apr 16, 2026, 7:59 AM
Suarez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Suarez took Tyler Mahle deep in the first inning. It was the first home run in 12 games for Suarez, who had just two RBI during his homer drought. Batting in the middle of the order behind Elly De La Cruz (.363 OBP) and Sal Stewart (.434), both of whom cleared the bases with their own home runs Wednesday, should result in plenty of RBI opportunities for Suarez, who has driven in nine runs over 18 games.
Will Benson
Will Benson Not starting against righty
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 2:30 PM
Benson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Benson will be on the bench for the fourth game in a row, with the Reds having faced three right-handers and one lefty during that stretch. The left-handed-hitting Benson looked as though he might be a candidate to move into a strong-side platoon role after the Reds optioned Noelvi Marte to Triple-A Louisville on Monday, but the newly recalled Rece Hinds may instead get a look as a full-time player in right field.
Emilio Pagan
Emilio Pagan Availability on Wednesday TBD
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 1:40 PM
Pagan (hamstring) played catch and "felt pretty good," but his availability for Wednesday's game against the Giants has yet to be determined, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Pagan's hamstring tightened up throughout his relief appearance in Tuesday's 2-1 win, and he felt it grab on his final pitch. However, after seeing the doctor and receiving treatment, he feels as though he's "dodged a bullet" with the injury. Pagan will talk with the Reds staff prior to Wednesday's contest before it's determined whether he will be available to pitch. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. If Pagan isn't cleared to pitch, Tony Santillan would likely be the first choice to fill in at closer.
Emilio Pagan
Emilio Pagan Tweaks hamstring Tuesday
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:50 AM
Pagan struck out a batter in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Giants, but he appeared to injure his hamstring on his final pitch, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. "His hammy grabbed a little bit. So we need to check him out. He's getting looked at right now," Reds manager Terry Francona said after the game.
Analysis: The 34-year-old right-hander had appeared to right the ship after a bumpy start to the season, but the injury could set him back. Pagan blew his first save chance of 2026 and got tagged for five runs and two home runs in his first three appearances, but since then he's converted five straight saves and reeled off six straight scoreless outings, albeit with a 5:5 K:BB in his last six innings. If Pagan winds up missing time, Tony Santillan would likely be the next man up for Cincinnati in the ninth inning.
Sal Stewart
Sal Stewart Goes yard again Tuesday
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:46 AM
Stewart went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Giants.
Analysis: His fourth-inning shot off Robbie Ray ended up being the game-winning hit. Stewart has left the yard in three of the last six games, continuing an impressive start to his first full MLB season that has seen him compile a .310/.431/.638 slash line with five homers, three steals, 11 runs and 11 RBI in 17 contests, as well as more walks (13) than strikeouts (12).
Brady Singer
Brady Singer Sharp in first win
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:44 AM
Singer (1-1) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings in a 2-1 victory over the Giants. He struck out one without walking a batter.
Analysis: The right-hander needed just 75 pitches (50 strikes) to record his first quality start of the season, with his only real mistake resulting in a Willy Adames solo shot in the fifth inning. Singer has alternated decent outings with shaky ones so far, leaving him with a 5.60 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB through 17.2 innings, but there's some bad luck baked into those ratios as he has a .387 BABIP. He'll look to build on this performance in his next start, which is set to come on the road this weekend in Minnesota.
Spencer Steer
Spencer Steer Launches homer in win
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 6:35 AM
Steer went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over San Francisco.
Analysis: Steer's third-inning shot gave the Reds an early lead in a game where offense was at a premium. Cincinnati managed just three hits and two were solo home runs. It was the second homer in three games for Steer, who's fighting back from a 1-for-17 (.059) start to the season. Since then, he's gone 9-for-37 (.243) with three doubles, three home runs and four RBI over 10 contests.
