Matt McLain
Matt McLain Second career multi-homer game
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 7:18 PM
McLain went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: It was the second career multi-homer effort by McLain, who has now gone deep in back-to-back games. The middle infielder was virtually unstoppable during spring training earlier this year, posting a 1.540 OPS across 59 Cactus League plate appearances, but he's cooled down dramatically since the start of the regular season. McLain is slashing .206/.303/.368 with eight long balls, 10 doubles, 25 RBI and seven stolen bases through 239 trips to the plate, but he could be starting up a power surge.
Rhett Lowder
Rhett Lowder Signs of rust in return
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 6:58 PM
Lowder took a no-decision Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing no runs on one hit and five walks in three innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: After missing just over three weeks of action with right shoulder discomfort, Lowder showed plenty of rust in his return to the major leagues Sunday following a lone minor-league rehab appearance. The 24-year-old right-hander threw only 34 of his 70 pitches for strikes, also walking a season-worst five hitters, but he at least managed to keep St. Louis off the board. Lowder has issued at least three passes in three consecutive outings en route to posting a shaky 5.01 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 31:23 K:BB over 41.1 innings, so he'll be searching for some control his next time out versus Arizona.
Pierce Johnson
Pierce Johnson Scheduled for bullpen Tuesday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 11:14 AM
Johnson (elbow) is expected to toss a bullpen session Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Johnson last pitched May 26 before landing on the 15-day IL due to right elbow inflammation, retroactive to May 27. He's set to test out the elbow with mound work Tuesday, and a minimum-length stay on the injured list remains a possibility. Johnson could bypass a minor-league rehab assignment if Tuesday's throwing session goes well.
Eugenio Suarez
Eugenio Suarez Beginning on bench Sunday
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 10:08 AM
Suarez is out of the Reds' starting lineup for Sunday's matchup versus St. Louis.
Analysis: Suarez is batting .094 (3-for-32) with 14 strikeouts over his past nine games, so he'll get a chance to reset Sunday. Spencer Steer is sliding over to first base after starting each of the past three games at the keystone, while Sal Stewart is playing third base following a run of starts at first.
Luis Mey
Luis Mey Sent back down to minors
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 9:52 AM
The Reds optioned Mey to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday.
Analysis: Mey was recalled from Louisville on Tuesday and got into one game with the Reds, allowing two runs on three walks, a hit batsman and one hit over one-third of an inning versus St. Louis on Friday. He'll now return to the minors in order to clear a spot on the 26-man roster for Rhett Lowder (shoulder), who was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move.
Rhett Lowder
Rhett Lowder Officially activated ahead of start
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 9:49 AM
The Reds activated Lowder (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Sunday.
Analysis: Lowder landed on the injured list May 13 due to right shoulder discomfort, and he's slated to make his return as Sunday's starting pitcher after missing just over three weeks. The right-hander tossed 70 pitches for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday in his lone rehab appearance, so he may be held to a pitch count in his return to the big-league rotation. To make room for Lowder on the 26-man roster, Cincinnati optioned reliever Luis Mey to Louisville.
Tejay Antone
Tejay Antone Escapes inherited jam
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 9:40 AM
Antone allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two over 1.2 scoreless innings in Saturday's 6-5 loss to St. Louis.
Analysis: Antone escaped a bases-loaded jam with none out, inducing a double-play grounder and a groundout to shortstop. After a rocky return to the majors early in May, Antone has authored six consecutive scoreless appearances, giving up five hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings.
Sam Moll
Sam Moll Blows lead
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 9:29 AM
Moll (1-4) allowed two runs on two hits while striking out one and was tagged with a loss and blown save Saturday as the Reds fell 6-5 to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Moll is the latest Cincy reliever to melt down, giving up a two-run home run to Lars Nootbaar in the eighth inning for the game-winning hit. Manager Terry Francona has cycled through multiple relievers in search of someone that can replace injured closer Emilio Pagan (hamstring). Despite Saturday's unfortunate outing, Moll has pitched well overall and sports a 2.96 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 30 appearances (27.1 innings), but the southpaw has just one save on the year against three blown saves.
Matt McLain
Matt McLain Goes deep in loss
Sun, Jun 7, 2026, 9:13 AM
McLain started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-5 loss to St. Louis.
Analysis: McLain launched his sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning, giving Cincinnati a 5-3 lead. He's started at shortstop in four of five games since Elly De La Cruz (hamstring) landed on the injured list. Edwin Arroyo started the other contest. De La Cruz has begun light baseball activity and will undergo an MRI checkup June 12, and he appears headed for a relatively brief IL stint.
Blake Dunn
Blake Dunn Three hits Saturday
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 9:01 PM
Dunn went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Getting the start in left field against southpaw Matthew Liberatore while Dane Myers covered center field, Dunn delivered his third straight multi-hit performance while swiping his third bag of the season. The 27-year-old has seized a regular role in the Cincinnati outfield by batting .324 (23-for-71) over his last 17 games with one homer, two steals, four RBI and 10 runs.
Nick Lodolo
Nick Lodolo No-decision in St. Louis
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 8:51 PM
Lodolo didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Cardinals, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk over five-plus innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: The southpaw got tagged for three runs in the second inning and another in the fifth on a Jordan Walker solo shot, but Lodolo actually left the mound with the Reds nursing a 5-4 lead, only for the bullpen to blow it late. Lodolo has lasted at least five innings in five of six starts since making his season debut in early May due to blister issues, managing a 5.51 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 25:14 K:BB over 32.2 innings while serving up eight homers. He'll look to produce a sharper outing in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Diamondbacks.
Elly De La Cruz
Elly De La Cruz Next MRI scheduled for Friday
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 11:14 AM
De La Cruz (hamstring) had his scheduled MRI moved up three days to this coming Friday, June 12, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: De La Cruz is expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks due to a right hamstring strain that he sustained this past Sunday against Atlanta. The good news for the superstar shortstop is that he appears to be progressing ahead of his recovery schedule, so Friday's MRI should give the Reds a better sense of the next steps for De La Cruz's rehab program. In his absence, Matt McLain is expected to see more starts at shortstop, and Edwin Arroyo and Noelvi Marte are also slated to see more playing time.
Hunter Greene
Hunter Greene Aiming to return before ASB
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 11:04 AM
Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters Saturday that Greene (elbow) could return from the 60-day injured list prior to the All-Star break, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Greene continues to recover from a procedure in mid-March to remove bone chips from his right elbow. He was cleared to throw in bullpen sessions in late May, and the Reds will have a better sense of the right-hander's recovery timeline once he's been given the green light to embark on a rehab assignment.
Edwin Arroyo
Edwin Arroyo Sitting Saturday
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 9:47 AM
Arroyo isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against St. Louis.
Analysis: Arroyo will take a seat Saturday after going 2-for-10 with two walks and six strikeouts across his first four games as an MLB player. Spencer Steer will start at second base in Arroyo's stead, and Noelvi Marte will enter the starting nine as Cincinnati's right fielder.
Tyler Stephenson
Tyler Stephenson Idle Saturday
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 9:42 AM
Stephenson isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Stephenson broke an 0-for-12 stretch at the plate by hitting a single in Friday's loss, and he'll now retreat to the bench to begin Saturday's contest. P.J. Higgins will fill in at catcher and bat ninth.
Blake Dunn
Blake Dunn Moves to center field
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 8:55 AM
Dunn started in center field and went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Friday's 10-3 loss to St. Louis.
Analysis: Dunn opened the game with a single and scored the Reds' first run. This was his second straight start in center field, after the club demoted TJ Friedl on Wednesday. At the very least, Dunn will serve on the strong side of a platoon there with Dane Myers entering the lineup against lefties. Dunn is slashing .284/.333/.420 over 87 plate appearances since his call-up in early May.
Noelvi Marte
Noelvi Marte Makes first start since call-up
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 8:46 AM
Marte started in right field and went 1-for-4 in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Marte made his first start since being recalled Wednesday. The Reds have cycled through a few bodies in the outfield, including Marte earlier this season, and will give him another shot. The recent demotion of TJ Friedl opened up center field for Blake Dunn, leaving right field for Marte or Will Benson whenever Spencer Steer is occupying another position.
Sal Stewart
Sal Stewart Gets Reds up early
Sat, Jun 6, 2026, 8:32 AM
Stewart went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 10-3 loss to St. Louis.
Analysis: Stewart was in the middle of the Reds' three-run first inning, doubling home two runs and scoring the third. He's still contributing from the middle of the order but less so after his boffo start. After posting a .943 OPS with nine home runs and 29 RBI over 31 games through the end of April, Stewart has a .722 OPS with three homers and 10 RBI over the same number of contests since May 1.
Brady Singer
Brady Singer Loses fourth straight
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 10:31 PM
Singer (2-6) took the loss against the Cardinals on Friday, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts over four innings.
Analysis: Singer allowed runs in three different frames and struggled with his command, throwing just 49 of 89 pitches for strikes. While only one of the three runs he allowed Friday was earned, the 29-year-old has now surrendered at least three runs in six straight starts, a stretch in which he's gone 0-5 while yielding 12 home runs. He'll carry a disappointing 5.89 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 42:19 K:BB across 55 innings this season into a road matchup against the Padres next week.
Matt McLain
Matt McLain Exiting starting lineup
Fri, Jun 5, 2026, 3:46 PM
McLain is not in the lineup for Friday's game in St. Louis.
Analysis: McLain is just 3-for-34 at the dish over his last 11 contests to drop his season batting line to .198/.296/.322. He'll get a day to regroup while Edwin Arroyo handles shortstop for the Reds in Friday's series opener.
