Rhett Lowder
Rhett Lowder Manages traffic Saturday
Sun, Mar 15, 2026, 11:47 AM
Lowder allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out four over 3.1 innings in Saturday's spring start against the Rangers.
Analysis: The results weren't pretty, but Lowder was able to work around traffic on the bases. The righty also built his pitch count up to 76 (44 strikes). After a couple of breezy outings to open the Cactus League, Lowder has been stung for seven runs (four earned), 11 hits and four walks over seven innings in his last two starts. Still, he's probably done enough to nail down one of the two available spots in the rotation. Chase Burns and Brandon Williamson are also in the mix for those vacancies
Tejay Antone
Tejay Antone Misses out on Opening Day roster
Sun, Mar 15, 2026, 9:59 AM
The Reds reassigned Antone to minor-league camp Sunday.
Analysis: Antone owns a 2.47 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 76.2 innings in parts of four seasons in the majors with Cincinnati, but he spent the entire 2025 campaign in the minors after completing his recovery from the third elbow surgery of his career, and the 32-year-old right-hander struggled at Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville. While his numbers in the Cactus League this spring (7.94 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB in 5.2 innings) weren't anything special, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati notes that Antone's velocity was up from 2025. He'll still need to translate those velocity gains into better results at Triple-A before earning another look in the majors.
Chase Burns
Chase Burns Short outing Friday
Sat, Mar 14, 2026, 7:29 AM
Burns allowed one hit and struck out two over two scoreless innings in Friday's spring start against the Giants.
Analysis: At a stage in spring training when most starters are ramping up to four or five innings, Burns was intentionally held back in his fourth Cactus League start Friday. Reds manager Terry Francona discussed the pitcher's usage with Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. "This kid is still working through some of his routines and stuff," Francona said. "And he had a good five days with the trainers working on the flexibility and the mobility. We just want to make sure. He's good to go. It might cost him an inning, but he's OK." Burns' previous outings were marked by falling behind hitters and running into trouble, so his 17 strikes over 24 pitches Friday were a good sign. Francona confirmed that Burns will still be stretched out as a starter going forward, which means he's still in the mix for one of two available rotation spots along with Rhett Lowder and Brandon Williamson.
Blake Dunn
Blake Dunn Back in action Friday
Fri, Mar 13, 2026, 4:09 PM
Dunn (knee) will start in right field and bat out of the leadoff spot for Friday's Cactus League game against the Giants, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Dunn had been sidelined due to a low-grade knee strain, but the 27-year-old has been cleared to return to action Friday and will take Dane Myers' spot in the lineup after latter was scratched due to an illness. Across 10 spring games, Dunn has gone 3-for-17 with one home run and four RBI as he attempts to make the Reds' Opening Day roster for a second consecutive year.
Dane Myers
Dane Myers Under the weather
Fri, Mar 13, 2026, 4:06 PM
Myers was scratched from the Reds' lineup against the Giants in Friday's Cactus League game due to an illness, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: With Myers removed from Friday's lineup, Noelvi Marte will shift over to center field while Blake Dunn (knee) starts in right field and bats in the leadoff spot. Myers has appeared in 10 Cactus League games for the Reds and has gone 7-for-20 with nine walks, three doubles, one home run and five RBI.
Nick Lodolo
Nick Lodolo Stung by Dodgers
Fri, Mar 13, 2026, 6:27 AM
Lodolo allowed six runs on six hits while striking out three over four innings in Thursday's spring start against the Dodgers. He also hit a batter.
Analysis: The Dodgers jumped on Lodolo early with four runs on four hits and a hit batsman in the first inning, as he wasn't locating his fastball well, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. The left-hander then hung a curveball that Max Muncy drove out of the park for a two-run home run in the third. The good news is that Lodolo got through four innings on 61 pitches in his third Cactus League start. Earlier in the day, Reds manager Terry Francona said Lodolo will open the season as the team's No. 2 starter and will pitch the second game of the regular season against Boston on March 28.
Caleb Ferguson
Caleb Ferguson Out to begin season
Thu, Mar 12, 2026, 4:28 PM
Ferguson will open the season on the injured list due to an oblique injury, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Manager Terry Francona said that it is a mild oblique injury and that Ferguson will be out "a couple of weeks" and that "he has to heal the way it heels," Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. The southpaw was signed by the Reds in December as a bullpen arm that will likely see many left-handed hitters.
Andrew Abbott
Andrew Abbott Deals with traffic Wednesday
Thu, Mar 12, 2026, 7:04 AM
Abbott allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 3.2 innings in Wednesday's spring start against Milwaukee.
Analysis: Abbott labored early and required 69 pitches to get those 11 outs in his fourth Cactus League start and first since being tabbed to start Opening Day, March 26, against the Red Sox. After allowing a walk and three hits (including a two-run home run) in a 25-pitch first inning, he got into immediate trouble in the second when the first two batters singled. The lefty squelched the threat with a pick-off and double-play grounder. Abbott then had less eventful third and four innings.
Noelvi Marte
Noelvi Marte Shows offense/defense
Thu, Mar 12, 2026, 6:50 AM
Marte went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Wednesday's spring game against the Brewers.
Analysis: Marte led off the second inning with his second Cactus League home run before stroking a two-run double an inning later. In addition to his work at the plate, Marte, who converted from infield to outfield mid-stream in 2025, made a couple of nice plays in the field. It was a promising development for the relatively new right fielder, who had misplayed a ball earlier in the week, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. "He's got to be our best right fielder," Reds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday. "We certainly think he's capable. I do think there's some more to show. We've told him that." Cincinnati has a few options in the outfield beyond Marte, who is the frontrunner of a group that includes Will Benson, JJ Bleday and Dane Myers.
Hunter Greene
Hunter Greene Likely out until July
Tue, Mar 10, 2026, 10:28 AM
Greene is scheduled to have bone chips removed from his right elbow Wednesday and is expected to be out until July, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Manager Terry Francona revealed last week that Greene was headed for an MRI due to an elbow issue, which dates back to his final starts of last season. The 26-year-old avoided damage to his UCL, but the bone chips and procedure to remove them will end up sidelining him for at least half the season. Greene pitched to a 2.76 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 11.0 K/9 during the 2025 regular season but was limited to 19 starts due to groin issues, and he'll have a limited workload again in 2026.
Rhett Lowder
Rhett Lowder Greeted roughly Monday
Tue, Mar 10, 2026, 8:47 AM
Lowder allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out four over 3.2 innings in Monday's spring start against the Athletics.
Analysis: The Athletics jumped on Lowder for four runs and four hits in the first inning, when the right-hander expended 26 pitches. He told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com that catcher Tyler Stephenson's mound visit helped turn him around. In three Cactus League outings (two starts), Lowder has a 4.15 ERA with 11 strikeouts and two walks over 8.2 innings. He remains in competition with Chase Burns and Brandon Williamson for the final two spots in the rotation.
Chase Petty
Chase Petty Cut from major-league camp
Mon, Mar 9, 2026, 9:41 AM
The Reds optioned Petty to minor-league camp Monday.
Analysis: Petty was unscored upon in two Cactus League outings, collecting a 2:2 K:BB over four innings. There's no room in the Reds' rotation for the young right-hander, but Petty should play a role with the big club at some point this summer.
Christian Encarnacion-Strand
Christian Encarnacion-Strand Moved to minor-league camp
Mon, Mar 9, 2026, 9:39 AM
The Reds optioned Encarnacion-Strand to minor-league camp Monday.
Analysis: Encarnacion-Strand entered spring training looking like a long shot to make the team, and coming to camp with a hamstring injury didn't help his chances. He's healthy now but will begin the season at Triple-A Louisville.
Will Benson
Will Benson Legs out homer
Mon, Mar 9, 2026, 8:43 AM
Benson went 1-for-4 with a two-run, inside-the-park home run in Sunday's spring game against the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Benson legged out what looked like a garden-variety double down the line in right field, but he was able to touch all the bases when the ball got behind the outfielder. It was the third home run of the spring for Benson, who is locked in a battle with Rece Hinds and JJ Bleday for a depth spot in the outfield. Reds manager Terry Francona may want an extra left-handed bat, which would eliminate Hinds. All three outfielders have minor-league options remaining.
Brady Singer
Brady Singer Better results second time out
Mon, Mar 9, 2026, 8:31 AM
Singer allowed two hits and two walks while striking out three over three scoreless innings in Sunday's spring start against the Diamondbacks.
Analysis: Singer had better results in his second Cactus League start but needed 58 pitches (33 strikes, four swing-and-misses) to get those nine outs. The results were better than his spring debut, when Singer was tagged for five runs and seven hits, but the right-hander had a similar issue with balls landing outside the zone. He managed to escape a pair of jams in the first and second innings before retiring the side in order in the third frame.
Blake Dunn
Blake Dunn Sidelined with knee strain
Sun, Mar 8, 2026, 4:00 PM
Reds manager Terry Francona said Sunday that Dunn is day-to-day with a low-grade knee strain, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: The injury is expected to keep Dunn out of the Reds' Cactus League lineups for a few days, but the outfielder doesn't appear to be at any major risk of missing the start of the season. The missed game action could prove costly to Dunn in his battle for a reserve job in the Reds' Opening Day outfield, however.
Andrew Abbott
Andrew Abbott Named Opening Day starter
Sun, Mar 8, 2026, 12:27 PM
The Reds announced Sunday that Abbott will start Opening Day against the Red Sox on March 26.
Analysis: The left-hander had a breakout 2025 campaign, during which he posted a 2.87 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 149:43 K:BB across 166.1 innings during the regular season. He was always in the mix to start Opening Day, but Hunter Greene's elbow issues left Abbott as the obvious answer to take the ball first for Cincinnati in 2026.
Spencer Steer
Spencer Steer Makes outfield start
Sun, Mar 8, 2026, 11:35 AM
Steer started in left field and went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's spring game against Kansas City.
Analysis: Steer is expected to be the team's primary left fielder, but Saturday's start was his first at the position. He played first base in his first six Cactus League games. Sal Stewart started at first base Saturday.
Nick Lodolo
Nick Lodolo Works around traffic
Sun, Mar 8, 2026, 11:24 AM
Lodolo allowed one run on six hits and two walks while striking out four over three innings in Saturday's spring start against the Royals.
Analysis: Lodolo faced adversity from jump street when former teammate Jonathan India led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run. More traffic followed in the next two innings, but the left-hander managed to work out of jams in his second Cactus League outing. Pitchers like to avoid that type of stress when the games count in the standings, but in the spring it can be helpful, and Lodolo worked his pitch count up to 58 (32 strikes).
Andrew Abbott
Andrew Abbott Runs allowed again
Fri, Mar 6, 2026, 7:18 PM
Abbott allowed four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five over 2.2 innings in Friday's spring start against the Giants. He also hit a batter and allowed two stolen bases.
Analysis: Abbott allowed runs in all three innings, including his third home run in 7.1 Cactus League innings. The best news coming out of the left-hander's third spring start are the five punchouts, and he upped his pitch count to 63 (39 strikes). Abbott explained to Charlie Goldsmith of Charlie's Chalkboard that he was more focused on working his pitches than the results of Friday's outing.
