Will Benson
Will Benson Not starting against righty
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 2:30 PM
Benson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Benson will be on the bench for the fourth game in a row, with the Reds having faced three right-handers and one lefty during that stretch. The left-handed-hitting Benson looked as though he might be a candidate to move into a strong-side platoon role after the Reds optioned Noelvi Marte to Triple-A Louisville on Monday, but the newly recalled Rece Hinds may instead get a look as a full-time player in right field.
Emilio Pagan
Emilio Pagan Availability on Wednesday TBD
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 1:40 PM
Pagan (hamstring) played catch and "felt pretty good," but his availability for Wednesday's game against the Giants has yet to be determined, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Pagan's hamstring tightened up throughout his relief appearance in Tuesday's 2-1 win, and he felt it grab on his final pitch. However, after seeing the doctor and receiving treatment, he feels as though he's "dodged a bullet" with the injury. Pagan will talk with the Reds staff prior to Wednesday's contest before it's determined whether he will be available to pitch. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. If Pagan isn't cleared to pitch, Tony Santillan would likely be the first choice to fill in at closer.
Emilio Pagan
Emilio Pagan Tweaks hamstring Tuesday
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:50 AM
Pagan struck out a batter in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Giants, but he appeared to injure his hamstring on his final pitch, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. "His hammy grabbed a little bit. So we need to check him out. He's getting looked at right now," Reds manager Terry Francona said after the game.
Analysis: The 34-year-old right-hander had appeared to right the ship after a bumpy start to the season, but the injury could set him back. Pagan blew his first save chance of 2026 and got tagged for five runs and two home runs in his first three appearances, but since then he's converted five straight saves and reeled off six straight scoreless outings, albeit with a 5:5 K:BB in his last six innings. If Pagan winds up missing time, Tony Santillan would likely be the next man up for Cincinnati in the ninth inning.
Sal Stewart
Sal Stewart Goes yard again Tuesday
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:46 AM
Stewart went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Giants.
Analysis: His fourth-inning shot off Robbie Ray ended up being the game-winning hit. Stewart has left the yard in three of the last six games, continuing an impressive start to his first full MLB season that has seen him compile a .310/.431/.638 slash line with five homers, three steals, 11 runs and 11 RBI in 17 contests, as well as more walks (13) than strikeouts (12).
Brady Singer
Brady Singer Sharp in first win
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:44 AM
Singer (1-1) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings in a 2-1 victory over the Giants. He struck out one without walking a batter.
Analysis: The right-hander needed just 75 pitches (50 strikes) to record his first quality start of the season, with his only real mistake resulting in a Willy Adames solo shot in the fifth inning. Singer has alternated decent outings with shaky ones so far, leaving him with a 5.60 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB through 17.2 innings, but there's some bad luck baked into those ratios as he has a .387 BABIP. He'll look to build on this performance in his next start, which is set to come on the road this weekend in Minnesota.
Spencer Steer
Spencer Steer Launches homer in win
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 6:35 AM
Steer went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over San Francisco.
Analysis: Steer's third-inning shot gave the Reds an early lead in a game where offense was at a premium. Cincinnati managed just three hits and two were solo home runs. It was the second homer in three games for Steer, who's fighting back from a 1-for-17 (.059) start to the season. Since then, he's gone 9-for-37 (.243) with three doubles, three home runs and four RBI over 10 contests.
Rece Hinds
Rece Hinds Hitless in debut
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 6:27 AM
Hinds started in right field and went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Hinds made his season debut for the Reds against San Francisco lefty Robbie Ray. The outfielder was recalled earlier in the day to replace Noelvi Marte, who was optioned to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move, and is expected to platoon with the lefty-hitting Will Benson in right field. Hinds had a superb spring training, worthy of making the Opening Day roster, but he spent the first weeks of the season in Louisville, where he had a 1.246 OPS and five home runs over 13 games (61 plate appearances). The biggest adjustment Hinds made is laying off breaking balls lower in the zone, per C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic. As a result, in addition to making better contact, he's lowered his strikeout rate from 31.8 percent the last two seasons in the minors to 24.6 percent this year, and Hinds' walk rate shot up from 8.2 percent to 19.7 over the same timeframe.
TJ Friedl
TJ Friedl Taking seat versus lefty
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 1:56 PM
Friedl is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Giants.
Analysis: Friedl was in the lineup each of the first two times the Reds faced a lefty this season, but in the two games versus lefties since then, he's been out of the starting nine. The righty-swinging Dane Myers will patrol center field and bat leadoff in Friedl's stead.
Nick Lodolo
Nick Lodolo Could face hitters Friday
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 1:49 PM
Reds manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that Lodolo (finger) could face hitters Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Lodolo has thrown a couple bullpen sessions since he had to be pulled off his rehab assignment following a setback with the blister on his left index finger. He has not thrown breaking balls during those sessions, however, and re-incorporating those pitches will be a big test for his blister. If Lodolo does face hitters Friday and gets through that step without issues, he could be cleared to resume a rehab assignment.
Rece Hinds
Rece Hinds Receives call to Cincy
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 9:44 AM
The Reds recalled Hinds from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.
Analysis: Hinds will receive his first call-up of 2026, joining the Reds' 26-man active roster as a replacement for Noelvi Marte, who was optioned to Triple-A on Monday. The promotion comes after Hinds got off to a banner start with Louisville, slashing .354/.475/.771 with five home runs and one stolen base over 61 plate appearances. With Marte out of the picture, Hinds and Will Benson will vie for playing time in right field.
Rece Hinds
Rece Hinds Promotion to majors coming
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 9:48 AM
The Reds are expected to recall Hinds from Triple-A Louisville prior to Tuesday's game against the Giants, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: He will take the roster spot vacated by Noelvi Marte, who has been optioned to Louisville. Hinds has earned the promotion following a monster start to the season with Louisville, having slashed .354/.475/.771 with five home runs, one stolen base and a 12:15 BB:K across 61 plate appearances. The 25-year-old has big power and speed upside, but the key for him will be making enough contact, as Hinds has struck out at a 38.9 percent clip during his time in the majors and a 31.4 percent rate at the Triple-A level. With Marte in the minors, Hinds and Will Benson are in line to see the bulk of the playing time in right field for Cincinnati.
Noelvi Marte
Noelvi Marte Sent down to minors
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 9:37 AM
The Reds optioned Marte to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
Analysis: Marte's playing time has been unsteady early on in the season and he hasn't helped himself with his performance, slashing just .138/.194/.138 with zero RBI and a 2:10 BB:K. The 24-year-old will try to get back on track at Louisville and should get another opportunity with the big club later this summer. Rece Hinds is taking Marte's spot on the roster and will get playing time in right field along with Will Benson.
Elly De La Cruz
Elly De La Cruz Another right-handed homer
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 7:19 AM
De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and an additional run scored in Sunday's 9-6 loss to the Angels.
Analysis: The switch-hitting De La Cruz popped a three-run homer in the ninth inning batting right-handed off lefty Drew Pomeranz. Four of his five home runs this season have come from the right side in only 22 at-bats. De La Cruz has historically been more productive from the left side (.844 OPS) than the right (.634).
Jose Trevino
Jose Trevino Begins throwing, batting next
Mon, Apr 13, 2026, 7:09 AM
Trevino (back) began light throwing Saturday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: After receiving an epidural injection Friday, Trevino's throwing session was the first bit of baseball activity since landing on the 10-day injured list. If he responds well, the Reds are hoping Trevino can take batting practice Tuesday.
Andrew Abbott
Andrew Abbott Hit around in short outing
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 5:42 PM
Abbott (0-2) took the loss Sunday against the Angels, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks in three innings. He struck out one.
Analysis: The left-hander was never quite able to find his footing, holding the Angels scoreless in just one of his three innings on the afternoon. Sunday disrupted a three-start streak with at least five innings to open the new year for Abbott, who gave up a season-high eight knocks as well. Abbott owns a rocky 5.85 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 12:8 K:BB over 20 frames so far, and he'll also be trying to get into the win column for the first time this year in his next scheduled outing against the Twins.
Tyler Stephenson
Tyler Stephenson Not in Sunday's lineup
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 9:58 AM
Stephenson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Stephenson went 1-for-5 with three walks across the first two games of the series and will take a seat for Sunday's finale. P.J. Higgins will step in behind the plate to catch for lefty Andrew Abbott.
Will Benson
Will Benson Playing time slipping
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 9:46 AM
Benson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: After beginning the season with starts in Cincinnati's first five games against right-handed pitching, Benson finds himself on the bench Sunday for the fourth time in the past six contests, all of which have been versus righties. Noelvi Marte is starting in right field and batting eighth in the series finale versus the Halos and appears to be the Reds' preferred primary option at the position.
Ke'Bryan Hayes
Ke'Bryan Hayes On bench Sunday
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 9:41 AM
Hayes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Hayes started the first two contests of the series versus the Halos and will take a seat for Sunday's finale with his hitless streak now extended to five games. Eugenio Suarez will step in at third base while Nathaniel Lowe receives a start at designated hitter.
Sal Stewart
Sal Stewart Moves to 2B
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 7:56 AM
Stewart started at second base and went 1-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Angels.
Analysis: Stewart covered second base due to Matt McLain getting a breather for the first time this season. The rookie handled all fielding opportunities that came his way, including being the pivot on two double-play groundouts. Stewart will mainly live at first base but can move around if needed. Through 15 games, he's batting .340 with 13 walks, four doubles, four home runs, 10 RBI, three steals and nine runs scored.
Spencer Steer
Spencer Steer Homers in win
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 7:37 AM
Steer batted second and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Angels.
Analysis: Steer was moved up in the batting order, as Matt McLain was held out of the starting lineup for the first time this season. The RBI snapped a six-game drought for Steer, who finished second on the team in that category last season with 75. He's batting .191 with two home runs and four RBI through 13 games in 2026.
