Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Logs three hits in win
Sat, May 2, 2026, 12:20 PM
Anthony went 3-for-4 with a double in Friday's 3-1 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Multi-hit performances were not meant to be noteworthy for Anthony, but the highly regarded prospect is having a rough go of it early in 2026. He entered Friday on a 4-for-31 (.129) stretch over the previous nine contests and is batting .230 with one home run and five RBI through 27 games.
Sonny Gray
Sonny Gray Throws live BP session
Sat, May 2, 2026, 12:04 PM
Gray (hamstring) threw a live batting practice session Friday, Tim Crowley of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Gray got up and down three times during the session in what was encouraging news for the Red Sox's rotation. The team is without ace Garrett Crochet (shoulder) and dealing with the latest shaky outing from Brayan Bello. Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy was pleased with the outing and will consult with others to determine the right-hander's next steps. Gray landed on the 15-day injured list following an abbreviated start April 20 and is eligible to return May 6.
Carlos Narvaez
Carlos Narvaez Idle Saturday
Sat, May 2, 2026, 11:02 AM
Narvaez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Narvaez will get a chance to rest Saturday after going 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's win. Connor Wong will take over behind the plate and bat eighth.
Jarren Duran
Jarren Duran Powers offense in win
Fri, May 1, 2026, 9:17 PM
Duran went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 3-1 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Duran's three-run blast in the third inning proved to be the game-winner. It was a much-needed swing, as the 29-year-old entered the game hitless over his previous four contests and hadn't gone deep since April 13. For the year, he owns a disappointing .173/.232/.279 slash with two home runs, 14 RBI, 16 runs scored and five steals across 112 plate appearances.
Jake Bennett
Jake Bennett Earns win in debut
Fri, May 1, 2026, 9:02 PM
Bennett (1-0) earned the win against the Astros on Friday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts over five innings.
Analysis: Making his first major-league start, Bennett allowed a solo homer in the third inning but mostly impressed with four scoreless frames. He threw 58 strikes and generated 10 whiffs on 85 pitches, including six on his changeup. The 25-year-old posted a 0.86 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB across 21 innings at Triple-A Worcester and lines up for a road matchup against the Tigers next week.
Aroldis Chapman
Aroldis Chapman Secures sixth save
Fri, May 1, 2026, 8:55 PM
Chapman earned the save in Friday's 3-1 win over the Astros, allowing one hit and no walks with one strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning.
Analysis: Chapman was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning and worked around a two-out double to slam the door. He's now 6-for-6 in save chances this season while keeping opponents off the board in nine of 10 appearances. The veteran southpaw has been dominant through 9.2 frames, posting a 0.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB.
Garrett Crochet
Garrett Crochet MRI comes back clean
Fri, May 1, 2026, 3:43 PM
Crochet underwent an MRI on his left shoulder that came back clean Friday, and he'll be shut down from throwing for a few days while he focuses on rebuilding strength, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: The left-hander landed on the injured Wednesday with left shoulder inflammation, and the MRI indicates that is indeed the full extent of the injury. After being placed on the shelf, Crochet indicated Wednesday he should be able to be activated after the 15-day minimum. A quick return like that should remain plausible as long as he's not shut down from throwing for more than a few days.
Justin Slaten
Justin Slaten Poised for rehab stint
Fri, May 1, 2026, 3:16 PM
Slaten (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland on Sunday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Slaten has been sidelined since early April with a right oblique strain but has been cleared to test things out in a game setting. The righty reliever will likely need multiple rehab appearances before rejoining the Boston bullpen.
Sonny Gray
Sonny Gray Throwing live BP
Fri, May 1, 2026, 2:15 PM
Gray (hamstring) is throwing a live batting-practice session Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: The right-hander landed on the shelf April 21 with a strained right hamstring, but he was only briefly shut down from throwing and is quickly back to facing live hitters. Gray will be eligible to be reinstated from the injured list next week, and he appears on track to rejoin Boston's rotation after spending close to the 15-day minimum on the shelf.
Jake Bennett
Jake Bennett Called up for major-league debut
Fri, May 1, 2026, 1:05 PM
The Red Sox recalled Bennett from Triple-A Worcester on Friday.
Analysis: Bennett is set to make his major-league debut Friday with a start against the Astros. The left-hander is absorbing the rotation spot vacated by the injured Garrett Crochet (shoulder) and could earn additional turns in the rotation while Crochet and Sonny Gray (hamstring) recuperate. Acquired from the Nationals over the offseason, Bennett has yielded just three runs (two earned) with a 16:3 K:BB over his first 21 innings with Worcester this season.
Nate Eaton
Nate Eaton Sent back to Triple-A
Thu, Apr 30, 2026, 11:47 AM
The Red Sox optioned Eaton to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Analysis: Eaton spent 24 hours with the Red Sox but didn't appear in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays. Eaton is slashing .292/.373/.458 with three homers, 12 RBI, 16 runs scored, six stolen bases and a 12:25 BB:K at Triple-A this season.
Willson Contreras
Willson Contreras Homers again Wednesday
Thu, Apr 30, 2026, 8:16 AM
Contreras went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-1 loss to the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Contreras' first-inning blast off Eric Lauer, his seventh homer this season, proved to be all the offense the Red Sox could muster Wednesday. Contreras has been one of Boston's few bright spots early this year -- he's gone 7-for-19 (.368) with three homers and a 1.330 OPS in his last five games, boosting his slash line to .262/.375/.486 with 20 RBI and 16 runs scored through his first 128 plate appearances.
Brayan Bello
Brayan Bello Takes third straight loss
Wed, Apr 29, 2026, 6:24 PM
Bello (1-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: It was another rough outing for Bello, who's now dropped three straight starts, allowing 16 runs in just 11 innings in that span. Bello's ERA now sits at an ugly 9.12 with a 2.26 WHIP and 17:15 K:BB across six starts (25.2 innings). The right-hander will look to turn things around his next time out, tentatively scheduled to come on the road next week against Detroit.
Carlos Narvaez
Carlos Narvaez Resting up Wednesday
Wed, Apr 29, 2026, 12:22 PM
Narvaez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: After seeing his six-game hitting streak come to an end during Tuesday's 3-0 loss, Narvaez will receive a breather for the series finale in Toronto. Connor Wong will step in behind the plate for the Red Sox and will bat seventh.
Nate Eaton
Nate Eaton Called up Wednesday
Wed, Apr 29, 2026, 12:19 PM
Boston recalled Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday
Analysis: In a corresponding move to Garrett Crochet's (shoulder) placement on the 15-day injured list, Eaton was called up to the major leagues for the first time this season. Opening the season with Worcester, the 29-year-old has batted .292 with three home runs in 96 plate appearances. Eaton appeared in 41 regular-season games for the Red Sox last year and hit .296 with one homer and nine steals. He should fill a super-utility role while up with the big club.
Marcelo Mayer
Marcelo Mayer Taking seat against southpaw
Wed, Apr 29, 2026, 12:13 PM
Mayer is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: With a left-hander (Eric Lauer) on the hill for Toronto, the left-handed-hitting Mayer will bow out of the lineup for the series finale. He'll be replaced in the starting nine by Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who will man second base and bat eighth.
Garrett Crochet
Garrett Crochet Confident in minimum-length IL stay
Wed, Apr 29, 2026, 12:03 PM
Crochet (shoulder) said Wednesday that he's "pretty confident" he'll be able to return from the injured list in the minimum 15 days, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Coming off his best outing since Opening Day in Saturday's win over Baltimore -- a seven-strikeout gem over six scoreless innings -- Crochet was surprisingly placed on the IL on Wednesday due to left shoulder inflammation. Though any shoulder injury for a pitcher carries some level of a concern, Crochet indicated that the Red Sox deactivated him mostly as a matter of caution, after the southpaw relayed to the coaching staff that he felt some fatigue during Saturday's outing. While Crochet will continue to receive daily treatment for his shoulder, he hasn't stopped throwing since his last start, which bodes well for his odds of returning from the IL when first eligible May 12. In the meantime, the Red Sox are likely to recall left-hander Jake Bennett from Triple-A Worcester to replace Crochet for two turns through the rotation.
Jarren Duran
Jarren Duran Taking seat for series finale
Wed, Apr 29, 2026, 11:56 AM
Duran is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Duran had been listed in the starting nine in Boston's initial lineup for the day, but he'll instead hit the bench while Roman Anthony replaces him in left field and atop the batting order. The Red Sox have yet to indicate that Duran was scratched due to any sort of physical issue, so it's possible that interim manager Chad Tracy has just changed his mind about the lineup and opted to rest the sixth-year outfielder. Duran had started in each of Boston's previous seven games and went hitless in the last three of those contests.
Jake Bennett
Jake Bennett Likely to make debut this weekend
Wed, Apr 29, 2026, 11:51 AM
Bennett "seems likely" to make his major-league debut Friday versus Houston, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: The Red Sox have not yet announced their probable pitcher for Friday's contest against the Astros, but Bennett was scratched from his most recent scheduled start for Triple-A Worcester and appears poised to step in as a replacement for Garrett Crochet (shoulder). Acquired via trade from the Nationals over the offseason, Bennett has permitted just three runs (two earned) with a 16:3 K:BB over his first 21 innings with Worcester this season. He's already on the 40-man roster and would be making his major-league debut if he does indeed draw a start versus Houston.
Garrett Crochet
Garrett Crochet Heads to IL with inflamed shoulder
Wed, Apr 29, 2026, 11:35 AM
The Red Sox placed Crochet on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to left shoulder inflammation.
Analysis: Crochet bounced back from a rough two-start stretch to deliver six scoreless innings in his most recent turn Saturday in Baltimore, but he may have tweaked his shoulder at some point during that outing or in his between-starts bullpen session. The Red Sox haven't revealed a timeline for their ace's return, though the fact that his injury is being classified as inflammation rather than a strain could offer hope that he'll be able to return in the minimum 15 days or close to it. Lefty Jake Bennett (0.75 ERA, 0.75 WHIP in 24 innings at Triple-A Worcester) was scratched ahead of his most recent minor-league start and could be called up to replace Crochet in the rotation and make his MLB debut during this weekend's series versus the Astros.
