Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Still not ready to hit
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 12:40 PM
Interim manager Chad Tracy said Wednesday that Anthony (finger/wrist) hasn't made any substantive progress in his recovery back in Boston since the Red Sox began their road trip last weekend, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Though a recent MRI on a partially torn tendon in his right ring finger showed healing, Anthony is still experiencing some discomfort that has prevented him from initiating a hitting progression. He'll simply have to wait until the pain subsides before he can make any meaningful strides in his recovery, leaving Anthony without a definitive timeline for a return. The young outfielder has been on the shelf since May 7.
Marcelo Mayer
Marcelo Mayer On bench for second straight game
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 11:25 AM
Mayer (foot) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Mayer will miss out on a second straight start due to a sore left foot, which stems from him fouling a ball off himself during Monday's series opener. The Red Sox are viewing Mayer as day-to-day, and the infielder could be available off the bench Wednesday if he's noticed some improvement since resting for Tuesday's 5-2 win. Boston will go with Andruw Monasterio at shortstop in the series finale in Colorado.
Mickey Gasper
Mickey Gasper Sitting against lefty again
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 11:20 AM
Gasper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Gasper is a switch hitter, but he's fared much better against right-handed pitching both this season and throughout his big-league career. The Red Sox will thus keep Gasper on the bench for a second straight day while the Rockies send another lefty starter (Kyle Freeland) to the hill.
Jarren Duran
Jarren Duran Receiving afternoon off
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 11:14 AM
Duran is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Duran went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in Tuesday's 5-2 win, leaving him hitless over his last four starts and bringing his season-long average down to .199, which places him 150th among the majors' 153 qualified hitters. The left-handed-hitting Duran's fortunes were unlikely to take a turn for the better with southpaw Kyle Freeland on the mound Wednesday, so the struggling outfielder will head to the bench after a stretch of 46 consecutive starts. Nate Eaton will take over Duran's spot in left field and will bat leadoff.
Ceddanne Rafaela
Ceddanne Rafaela Stolen base, RBI in win
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 7:33 AM
Rafaela went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Colorado.
Analysis: Rafaela capped off Boston's scoring, plating the team's fifth run with an RBI single in the sixth inning. The 25-year-old outfielder is enjoying the best season of his four-year MLB career, slashing .280/.330/.437 with seven home runs, 33 RBI, nine steals and 31 runs over 73 games. Rafaela's been one of the Red Sox's most consistent hitters and he earned a promotion to the second spot in the batting order, where he's been the last 24 games.
Andruw Monasterio
Andruw Monasterio Steps in at shortstop
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 7:19 AM
Monasterio started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Rockies.
Analysis: Monasterio got the start at shortstop with Marcelo Mayer nursing a sore foot after fouling a ball off it the previous night. As the Red Sox were facing a left-hander, Colorado's Sean Sullivan, it's likely Mayer would have been held out regardless of the injury. Playing time has been sporadic for Monasterio, who's made just 28 starts and is slashing .223/.271/.355 with two home runs, 11 RBI, one steal and 12 runs scored across 45 total appearances.
Marcelo Mayer
Marcelo Mayer Sitting with sore left foot
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 4:52 PM
Mayer is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Rockies due to a sore left foot, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Mayer fouled a pitch off of his left foot in a recent game, which has left him walking with a limp. As he rests up Tuesday, Anthony Siegler is starting at second base and batting ninth.
Mickey Gasper
Mickey Gasper Idle Tuesday
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 4:43 PM
Gasper is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Rockies.
Analysis: Gasper will rest on the bench Tuesday after going 1-for-5 with two walks across the last two games since Sunday. Connor Wong has the start at catcher and is batting eighth.
Romy Gonzalez
Romy Gonzalez Aiming for Saturday return
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 4:43 PM
Gonzalez (shoulder/hip) said Tuesday that he expects to return from the injured list and make his season debut Saturday against the Yankees, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Gonzalez has been on the injured list all season as he works his way back from shoulder surgery, though he was pulled from his rehab game at Double-A Portland on Saturday due to soreness in his hip. His hip injury turned out to be minor, and he's now set to spend the next couple of days continuing his rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester before returning over the weekend. Once activated, he shouldn't have a problem working into Boston's lineup, though the team may slowly ease him back into regular action.
Andrew Knizner
Andrew Knizner Links up with Red Sox
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 2:00 PM
Knizner agreed to a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: After failing to crack the Mariners' Opening Day roster this spring, Knizner joined the Rockies on a minor-league deal and had a .961 OPS with 10 homers in 33 games with Triple-A Albuquerque before being released last week. The 31-year-old doesn't have a clear path to joining the big-league club since Boston already has three catchers on the 26-man roster.
Aroldis Chapman
Aroldis Chapman Blows first save of 2026
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 3:46 AM
Chapman (0-3) blew the save and took the loss in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies. He allowed three runs on four hits without recording an out.
Analysis: Chapman entered with a two-run lead in the ninth inning and was greeted by a trio of singles, including a 74.2 mph blooper from TJ Rumfield and a bunt hit from Cole Carrigg. With the bases loaded and no outs, Jake McCarthy punched a fastball into left field that Jarren Duran struggled to field cleanly, allowing all three runners to score on a walk-off triple. It marked Chapman's first blown save of 2026 and his second straight outing in which he allowed a run and was charged with the loss. Despite the recent hiccups, the 38-year-old has still been excellent this season, posting a 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB with 14 saves across 21.2 innings.
Jake Bennett
Jake Bennett Delivers six scoreless frames
Tue, Jun 23, 2026, 3:35 AM
Bennett did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing four hits and no walks over six scoreless innings against the Rockies. He struck out nine.
Analysis: Tasked with pitching at the notoriously hitter-friendly Coors Field, Bennett took the challenge in stride, allowing no runs while recording a season-high nine strikeouts in what can easily be considered the best outing of his young career. A blown save by Aroldis Chapman, however, denied Bennett the win. Through five big-league starts, the 25-year-old owns a 1-3 record with a 3.71 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB across 26.2 innings. His next start is projected for Saturday against the Yankees.
Anthony Seigler
Anthony Seigler Making third straight start
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 7:00 PM
Seigler will start at second base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Rockies.
Analysis: Seigler will cover second base for the third game in a row and appears set to receive an extended look as an everyday player while after Isiah Kiner-Falefa (forearm) recently joined the likes of Trevor Story (sports hernia), Romy Gonzalez (shoulder/hip) and Nick Sogard (oblique) on the shelf. Over parts of two seasons in the big leagues between Milwaukee and Boston, Seigler has produced a .192/.286/.219 slash line with zero home runs and one stolen base across 85 plate appearances.
Romy Gonzalez
Romy Gonzalez Resuming rehab assignment Tuesday
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 6:24 PM
Gonzalez (shoulder/hip) will resume a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Worcester, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Gonzalez has been out all season following left shoulder surgery, and he had to have his rehab assignment paused over the weekend due to a sore left hip flexor. He is feeling well enough to return to action Tuesday, and Gonzalez could rejoin Boston's active roster before the end of June.
Garrett Crochet
Garrett Crochet Not cleared to throw yet
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 5:59 PM
Crochet (shoulder/lat) has not yet been cleared to resume a throwing program following a scheduled re-evaluation Monday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said that Crochet's left shoulder and lat are "improving," but not enough that he's ready to throw. Crochet landed on the injured list in late April with left shoulder inflammation and then encountered a setback in early June when he sustained a low-grade left lat strain. The southpaw has been throwing a plyometric ball, but a timetable for his return won't become clearer until he ramps up a throwing program.
Caleb Durbin
Caleb Durbin Sorry to leave Seattle
Mon, Jun 22, 2026, 10:32 AM
Durbin went 2-for-3 with a double in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Mariners.
Analysis: Durbin posted multiple hits in all three road games and left Seattle with seven hits over 11 at-bats. His work also included two stolen bases, two doubles, a home run and two RBI. What has been a trying first season in Boston turned over the last three weeks. Durbin is batting .319 (23-for-72) with seven doubles, one triple, four home runs, 13 RBI, three steals and 11 runs over his last 20 games.
Nate Eaton
Nate Eaton Goes yard in loss
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 10:08 PM
Eaton went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 3-1 loss to Seattle.
Analysis: Eaton started in right field and delivered Boston's lone run, blasting a solo shot to left field in the third inning. After opening the year with Triple-A Worcester, the 29-year-old was recalled June 8 and has played sparingly since. Across five major-league appearances this season, Eaton has gone 1-for-8 (.125) with two walks, with Sunday's homer accounting for his lone hit.
Payton Tolle
Payton Tolle Charged with fifth loss
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 10:03 PM
Tolle (3-5) took the loss Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings against the Mariners. He struck out two.
Analysis: Tolle churned out a quality start, but he recorded a season-low two strikeouts while taking the loss. After surrendering just three homers through his first nine outings, the southpaw has now allowed three long balls across his past two starts, with Dominic Canzone taking him deep in the second inning Sunday. Tolle will take a 3.08 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 62:18 K:BB across 64.1 innings (11 starts) into his next appearance, tentatively scheduled for Friday against the Yankees.
Masataka Yoshida
Masataka Yoshida Sitting again Sunday
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 3:03 PM
Yoshida is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Yoshida will hit the bench for the third time in four games despite the Red Sox facing right-handed starting pitchers in each of those contests. With Yoshida having cobbled together an underwhelming .248/.329/.331 slash line over 164 plate appearances on the season, the Red Sox appear ready to scale back his role to see if another player can inject some life into the offense.
Andruw Monasterio
Andruw Monasterio Idle for second straight game
Sun, Jun 21, 2026, 3:00 PM
Monasterio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
Analysis: Monasterio will be on the bench for a second straight game while the Red Sox give Anthony Seigler another turn at second base. Boston went with Monasterio at the keystone in each of the three games before that, with the 29-year-old going 2-for-10 with four strikeouts in those contests. Monasterio and Seigler could work in a timeshare at the position while the Red Sox are without all of Trevor Story (sports hernia), Romy Gonzalez (shoulder/hip), Nick Sogard (oblique) and Isiah Kiner-Falefa (forearm).
