Zack Kelly
Zack Kelly Out with elbow injury at Triple-A
Wed, Jul 8, 2026, 2:52 PM
Kelly has been placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Worcester with a right elbow injury, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Kelly has made 17 appearances out of the Red Sox's bullpen this season, holding a 3.31 ERA and 14:7 K:BB over 16.1 innings. It's unclear how long he might be out, but clearly Kelly won't be an option for the Red Sox in the immediate future.
Bound for Triple-A
Wed, Jul 8, 2026, 1:37 PM
The Red Sox promoted Mullins from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.
Analysis: Mullins is expected to make his Worcester debut with a start Wednesday in Game 1 or 2 of the club's doubleheader with Rochester, per Brendan Campbell of BloggingTheRedSox.com. Though the 25-year-old submitted a 5.85 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 47.2 innings with Portland, he's been one of the Eastern League's most prolific strikeout artists this season, ranking second on the circuit with a 34.8 K%.
Patrick Sandoval
Patrick Sandoval Slated to start Thursday
Wed, Jul 8, 2026, 10:03 AM
Sandoval (biceps) is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the White Sox in Chicago, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: The Red Sox brought Sandoval back from the 60-day injured list Monday, but he'll end up waiting for a few days before making his first big-league appearance since June 21, 2024, after enduring a lengthy recovery from internal brace surgery and multiple arm-related setbacks. Sandoval was sharp over the course of his six-start minor-league rehab assignment, generating a 1.96 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB across 18.1 innings between four outings with Triple-A Worcester and two with Double-A Portland. The southpaw built up to 68 pitches in his final rehab start over the weekend, so he could have a light workload restriction in place while he slots into the spot in the Boston rotation that previously belonged to Connelly Early (elbow), who was moved to the IL last week.
Nate Eaton
Nate Eaton Suspension reduced to two games
Tue, Jul 7, 2026, 6:16 PM
Eaton will begin serving a two-game suspension Tuesday, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Major League Baseball initially issued Eaton a three-game ban for his role in the bench-clearing altercation between the Red Sox and Nationals last Tuesday, but his suspension has been cut down to two games following an appeal. He'll be eligible to return for Thursday's series finale against the White Sox.
Ranger Suarez
Ranger Suarez Hopeful of avoiding injured list
Tue, Jul 7, 2026, 1:02 PM
The Red Sox "remain hopeful" Suarez (adductor) can avoid the 15-day injured list, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Suarez was forced from Sunday's outing against the Angels in the third inning due to left adductor tightness. He will be re-evaluated Tuesday, at which point the Red Sox will have a better idea as to whether Suarez can make his next start which is tentatively lined up for Saturday against the Mets. With the All-Star break looming, the Red Sox could play it safe and hold Suarez out. Suarez made the All-Star team, but there's a good chance he'll be replaced on the AL roster.
Jack Anderson
Jack Anderson DFA'd by Boston
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 5:15 PM
The Red Sox designated Anderson for assignment Monday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Analysis: Anderson's removal from the 40-man roster was done to make room for the reinstatement of Patrick Sandoval (biceps) from the 60-day injured list. Anderson has appeared in three major-league games for the Red Sox in a bulk-relief role, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six across eight innings. He's spent most of the season in Triple-A Worcester, where he's started in 11 of 16 games and has a 4.81 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 51:21 K:BB across 58 innings. Anderson could be plucked off waivers by a team looking to add a long reliever to its bullpen.
Alec Gamboa
Alec Gamboa Optioned to Triple-A
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 5:10 PM
The Red Sox optioned Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Analysis: The move makes room on the Red Sox's 26-man roster for Patrick Sandoval (biceps), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday. Gamboa was called up by the Red Sox this past Wednesday for the third time this season but will head back down to Triple-A, where he has a 3.21 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 40:8 K:BB across 42 innings.
Patrick Sandoval
Patrick Sandoval Reinstated from 60-day IL
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 5:07 PM
The Red Sox reinstated Sandoval (biceps) from the 60-day injured list Monday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Analysis: Sandoval is finally ready to see major-league action for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June of 2024 while working through other injuries that cropped up during his recovery. He is expected to make his Red Sox debut Thursday against the White Sox, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. Sandoval's is return is a welcome for Boston, one given that Connelly Early (elbow) is on the 15-day injured list and with Ranger Suarez dealing with a groin injury that he picked up during Sunday's start against the Angels. Sandoval ran his pitch count up to 68 in his last rehab start with Double-A Portland on Saturday, and he'll likely have his workload limited through his few turns in the rotation.
Johan Oviedo
Johan Oviedo In midst of throwing program
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 12:46 PM
Oviedo (elbow) began a throwing program in mid-June but isn't considered close to a return from the 60-day injured list, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Oviedo has been on the shelf since April 3 after sustaining a right flexor strain during a long-relief appearance in his season and Red Sox debut March 30 in Houston. The Red Sox haven't revealed where Oviedo currently stands in his throwing program, but until he's cleared to begin a rehab assignment, a target date for his return from the 60-day injured list won't be available.
Tanner Houck
Tanner Houck Resumes mound work
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 12:40 PM
The Red Sox announced June 25 that Houck (elbow) has started light throwing off a mound, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The activity represents a step forward in a lengthy recovery process for Houck, who had previously been limited to playing catch off flat ground in his rehab for the UCL reconstruction and flexor tendon repair surgery he underwent Aug. 18, 2025. Houck is hopeful to pitch at some point for the Red Sox in 2026, though he likely won't have enough time to get stretched out for a starting role and will presumably work out of the bullpen if he ends up getting activated from the 60-day injured list.
Trevor Story
Trevor Story Taking part in full activities
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 11:24 AM
The Red Sox announced June 28 that Story (sports hernia) is taking part in full baseball activities, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Story hasn't yet been cleared to do every activity at 100 percent intensity, so until he reaches that benchmark in his recovery from sports hernia surgery, he won't be ready to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 33-year-old shortstop previously said that he expected to miss around eight weeks after undergoing surgery May 21, so he may have a shot at returning from the 60-day injured list at some point shortly after the All-Star break.
Kutter Crawford
Kutter Crawford Working out in Florida
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 11:18 AM
The Red Sox announced June 29 that Crawford (forearm) has been throwing plyometric balls during workouts at the team's spring training facility in Florida, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Crawford was expected to be in store for an abbreviated stint on the shelf to begin the season while completing his recovery from the wrist surgery he underwent last July, but he experienced forearm tightness coming out of his lone rehab start April 11 with Triple-A Worcester and has struggled to bounce back. While the fact that he's not shut down from activity entirely is promising, Crawford will still need to complete an extended throwing progression followed by a lengthy rehab assignment before he factors into the Red Sox's pitching plans. Given the multiple hurdles he still needs to clear, Crawford is unlikely to return from the 60-day injured list until August or September.
Masataka Yoshida
Masataka Yoshida Records three hits in win
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 10:01 AM
Yoshida went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Angels.
Analysis: Yoshida's third single of the day in the seventh inning upped Boston's lead to 7-3. This was the first appearance five games for Yoshida, who is part of a rotation at designated hitter. He's hit safely in four straight games (7-for-13) with a double, a home run and two RBI during that stretch.
Jarren Duran
Jarren Duran Launches 13th homer in win
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 2:56 AM
Duran went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Angels.
Analysis: Duran snapped a 15-game homerless streak, during which he went 4-for-50 (.080), with a two-run blast in the second inning to get the Red Sox on the board. The 29-year-old has struggled mightily at the plate this season, slashing .197/.259/.361 with 13 homers, 43 RBI, 39 runs and 14 stolen bases across 81 contests. Despite his struggles, Duran has continued to operate as the club's primary left fielder, though he cedes some playing time to Nate Eaton against southpaws.
Willson Contreras
Willson Contreras Crushes 20th homer
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 2:46 AM
Contreras went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Angels.
Analysis: Contreras' lone hit was a big one, as he crushed a 446-foot, three-run homer to left field in the third inning to give the Red Sox a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The veteran has now matched his season total of 20 homers from last year with the Cardinals and is on pace to eclipse his career high of 24 long balls, set with the Cubs in 2019. Overall, the first baseman has been excellent at the plate in 2026, slashing .284/.378/.542 with 37 extra-base hits, 59 RBI, 45 runs and two stolen bases across 86 games.
Aroldis Chapman
Aroldis Chapman Records 18th save
Mon, Jul 6, 2026, 2:38 AM
Chapman picked up the save in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Angels. He allowed a solo home run while striking out two over one inning.
Analysis: A two-out solo homer from Zach Neto kept Chapman from retiring the side in order, but the 38-year-old struck out the next batter to lock down his 18th save. The southpaw has been a bit shaky of late, allowing six earned runs across six innings over his past seven appearances. He has also taken a pair of losses while converting four of six save opportunities during this stretch. Despite the recent hiccups, Chapman has been effective overall in 2026, posting a 2.36 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 35:12 K:BB across 26.2 innings.
Ranger Suarez
Ranger Suarez Dealing with adductor tightness
Sun, Jul 5, 2026, 10:37 PM
Suarez departed Sunday's matchup against the Angels in the third inning due to left adductor tightness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Suarez's injury occurred when he made a hop toward a batted ball that turned into a Jo Adell infield single. The lefty hurler showed noticeable discomfort after the play and was promptly removed. Given the nature of the injury, Suarez's ability to make his next start is in considerable doubt. He was recently selected to the All-Star Game, which takes place July 14, but his availability for that contest seems to be in jeopardy as well.
Ranger Suarez
Ranger Suarez Lifted with possible leg injury
Sun, Jul 5, 2026, 9:48 PM
Suarez was pulled from Sunday's game against the Angels in the third inning after "shaking his leg and grimacing" following an infield single, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Suarez appeared to get hurt after throwing a pitch that was knocked by Jo Adell for an infield single. The left-handed hurler took a small hop toward the batted ball and seemed to land awkwardly. Suarez subsequently threw a warm-up pitch, and he then came out of the contest. The recently anointed All-Star tossed 2.2 innings in the outing, allowing three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out five batters. Boston will presumably provide details about Suarez's injury after he's evaluated.
Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Slated to see hand specialist
Sun, Jul 5, 2026, 9:38 PM
Anthony (finger) will visit Dr. Gary Lourie, a hand specialist, during the coming week, Chad Finn of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Anthony is headed to Boston's spring-training facility in Fort Myers, Fla., to continue his injury rehabilitation, and that also puts him close to Dr. Lourie, who is based in Atlanta, Ga. Red Sox manager Chad Tracy stated Sunday that the visit to the hand doctor and Anthony's time in Florida is "for peace of mind" and to get the slugger to "a spot where he can focus each day on just pounding away at getting that hand healthy." Anthony has yet to resume a hitting program nine weeks after suffering a partially torn ligament in his right ring finger while taking a swing, and there remains no clear timeline for his return.
Triston Casas
Triston Casas Stops hitting due to wrist issue
Sun, Jul 5, 2026, 7:15 PM
Casas (abdomen/knee) has been shut down from hitting due to a wrist issue, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Casas is still recovering from both a May 2025 procedure to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee and an intercostal strain on his left side that he sustained in April. He's progressed enough in his rehab program to swing a bat, but those activities will be put on pause after a wrist issue flared up. It's not clear when or if Casas will return from the injured list this season, but a return to hitting -- followed by a rehab assignment -- would be positive steps for the 26-year-old slugger.
