Richard Fitts
Richard Fitts Enters winter with no limitations
Sun, Nov 16, 2025, 9:06 AM
Fitts (arm) heads into the winter with no limitations, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Fitts, who missed the final 30 games of the season due to right arm neuritis, is throwing again and should have a normal offseason, per Boston chief baseball officer Craig Breslow. Injuries to projected rotation members during the spring opened a spot for Fitts early on before he landed on the IL with a pectoral strain. Pending the team's offseason moves -- re-sign Lucas Giolito or add a viable free agent -- Fitts will be part of a group competing for a spot at the back end of the rotation or the bullpen.
Luis Guerrero
Luis Guerrero Outrighted to Triple-A
Thu, Nov 13, 2025, 12:57 PM
The Red Sox outrighted Guerrero to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Guerrero had been designated for assignment last week, and he will remain in the organization after somewhat surprisingly clearing waivers. The hard-throwing reliever has posted a 2.63 ERA but a problematic 19:16 K:BB across 27.1 frames covering parts of two major-league seasons.
Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Will have normal offseason
Tue, Nov 11, 2025, 9:06 AM
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday that Anthony (oblique) is asymptomatic and will have a normal offseason, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.
Analysis: Anthony suffered a left oblique strain in early September that sidelined him for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs. However, the rookie outfielder is heading into the offseason with a clean bill of health. Anthony slashed .292/.396/.463 with eight homers and four steals over 71 contests in his rookie campaign.
Marcelo Mayer
Marcelo Mayer Should be healthy for spring
Tue, Nov 11, 2025, 9:03 AM
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday that Mayer's recovery from right wrist surgery had progressed to the point that he could have been available had the team made a deep postseason run, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.
Analysis: That suggests Mayer -- who underwent a right wrist arthroscopy in August -- should be fully recovered well ahead of spring training. As things currently stand, Mayer could open the 2026 season as the starter at either second or third base, though much will depend on what additions the Red Sox make to their roster.
Lucas Giolito
Lucas Giolito Fully recovered from elbow injury
Mon, Nov 10, 2025, 8:32 AM
Giolito said on Audacy's "Baseball Isn't Boring" podcast that he began his offseason throwing program in mid-October and is fully recovered from the right elbow injury that ended his season in late September.
Analysis: The right-hander came down with right elbow soreness at the end of the regular season and was unavailable to pitch in the playoffs for the Red Sox. However, Giolito noted that "within three days, my elbow felt 100 percent fine again," and "whatever injury there was, it's gone." Giolito is entering free agency and, assuming his medicals do indeed check out, should receive plenty of interest on the open market. The 31-year-old held a 3.41 ERA and 121:56 K:BB over 145 innings for Boston in 2025.
Luis Guerrero
Luis Guerrero Designated for assignment
Thu, Nov 6, 2025, 2:34 PM
The Red Sox activated Guerrero from the 60-day injured list and designated him for assignment Thursday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Guerrero missed a significant chunk of the 2025 season with an elbow issue, but he's healthy now, having made four appearances in the Dominican winter league. The 25-year-old has an uninspiring 19:16 K:BB over 27.1 innings at the big-league level, but he has a 29.8 percent strikeout rate in the minors and has minor-league options remaining, so Guerrero could draw interest on waivers.
Cooper Criswell
Cooper Criswell Re-signs with BoSox
Thu, Nov 6, 2025, 1:18 PM
Criswell signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Red Sox on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis: Criswell appeared in seven games for Boston in 2025, finishing the regular season with a 3.57 ERA and 1.58 WHIP through 17.2 innings. He put up similar numbers at Triple-A Worcester (3.70 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) before elbow inflammation put an early end to his season in late August. The 29-year-old righty doesn't have any more minor-league options remaining, so he will have to make the Red Sox's Opening Day roster to avoid losing his 40-man spot.
Trevor Story
Trevor Story Will not opt out of contract
Tue, Nov 4, 2025, 3:01 PM
Story will remain with the Red Sox after choosing not to opt out of the two years and $50 million left on his contract, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Story is owed $25 million each of the next two seasons and the Red Sox have a $25 million club option or $5 million buyout on him for 2028. He might have been able to get more than that on the open market, but Story -- who will turn 33 later this month -- has opted to stay put. Story slashed .263/.308/.433 with 25 home runs and 31 stolen bases over 157 regular-season games for Boston in 2025.
Jarren Duran
Jarren Duran Avoids arbitration with Red Sox
Tue, Nov 4, 2025, 12:24 PM
The Red Sox and Duran avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $7.7 million contract Tuesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: The team had an $8 million option on Duran, but it will give him a $100,000 buyout instead and bring him back at a slightly lower salary than what the option would have paid him. Duran will remain under club control through the end of the 2028 season. The 29-year-old outfielder slashed .256/.332/.442 with 16 home runs and 24 stolen bases across 157 regular-season contests for Boston in 2025.
Hunter Dobbins
Hunter Dobbins Beginning throwing progression
Mon, Nov 3, 2025, 4:45 PM
Dobbins (knee) has been cleared to start a full throwing program, the pitcher revealed on his X account Monday.
Analysis: Dobbins blew out the ACL in his right knee in mid-July and had surgery, but he's expected to have a normal offseason and show up to spring training without restrictions. The right-hander posted a 4.13 ERA and 45:17 K:BB through 61 innings with the big club in 2025 and could compete for a spot in Boston's 2026 rotation.
Lucas Giolito
Lucas Giolito Declines mutual option
Mon, Nov 3, 2025, 1:55 PM
Giolito (elbow) declined the player side of his $19 mutual option for 2026 on Monday, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: He'll be paid a $1.5 million buyout instead. It's possible the Red Sox will extend Giolito a one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer, and if that happens, there's a non-zero chance the right-hander accepts it. After missing the 2024 season following internal brace surgery, Giolito had a nice bounce-back 2025 campaign, posting a 3.41 ERA and 121:56 K:BB over 145 frames. However, his season ended in late September with elbow soreness, and while he was cleared of structural damage, the injury could affect his earnings potential this offseason.
Kristian Campbell
Kristian Campbell Will focus on adding strength
Mon, Oct 27, 2025, 10:26 AM
Red Sox director of player development Brian Abraham said recently that adding strength will be "a big focus" for Campbell this offseason, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Campbell lost weight during the season -- which is fairly typical, particularly for young players -- and the Red Sox believe that contributed to a dip in how hard he was able to impact the ball. It was a disappointing rookie campaign for Campbell, who finished with a .223/.319/.345 batting line over 67 games for the Red Sox before spending the final three-plus months in the minors. The 23-year-old will compete in spring training for a spot on Boston's Opening Day roster. Campbell is primarily a second baseman, but he also saw playing time in the outfield for the Red Sox and was introduced to first base at Triple-A Worcester.
Isaiah Campbell
Isaiah Campbell Cleared from 40-man roster
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:10 PM
The Red Sox outrighted Campbell to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.
Analysis: Campbell has been torched for 19 runs (18 earned) over 14.1 innings over the last two seasons during his brief time with the Red Sox. He's no longer on the 40-man roster but will remain in the organization for the time being.
Jose De Leon
Jose De Leon Outrighted to Triple-A
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:06 PM
The Red Sox outrighted De Leon to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.
Analysis: De Leon made one late-season appearance for the Red Sox but has lost his 40-man roster spot heading into the offseason. The right-hander has the ability to reject the assignment and become a free agent, but it's unclear what his plans are.
Alex Bregman
Alex Bregman Plans to opt out of deal
Tue, Oct 14, 2025, 10:53 PM
Bregman is expected to opt out of his contract with the Red Sox in the offseason, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Bregman signed a one-year $40 million contract with Boston last winter that included $40 million player options for the 2026 and '27 campaigns. The 31-year-old will now forgo his two option years and pursue a multi-year contract in free agency. After slashing .273/.360/.462 with 18 homers, 62 RBI and 64 runs scored over 114 regular-season games during his first season in Boston, he will likely have plenty of suitors vying for his services.
Connor Wong
Connor Wong Undergoes hand surgery
Thu, Oct 9, 2025, 10:14 AM
Wong underwent a successful right hand carpal boss excision procedure Thursday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: A carpal boss excision involves the removal of a painful bony growth on the back of the wrist. The Red Sox did not reveal a rehab timetable for Wong, but the surgery is considered minor. Wong slashed only .190/.262/.238 over 63 games for the Red Sox in 2025, losing his starting job to Carlos Narvaez (knee). Narvaez had surgery himself this week, but both catchers should be fine for the start of spring training.
Carlos Narvaez
Carlos Narvaez Undergoes knee surgery
Thu, Oct 9, 2025, 8:21 AM
Narvaez underwent a successful left knee meniscectomy Wednesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Narvaez played through a meniscus injury in his knee for much of the second half of the regular season and the playoffs before having a cleanup procedure Wednesday. He is expected to be fully recovered before spring training and should enter the 2026 season as Boston's top catcher after slashing .241/.306/.419 with 15 home runs in 118 contests.
Triston Casas
Triston Casas Not guaranteed 1B job in 2026
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 12:44 PM
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow on Monday would not commit to Casas (knee) being the team's starting first baseman next season, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Breslow also noted that while Casas is "doing really well" in his recovery from surgery in May to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee, he could not guarantee the 25-year-old will be ready in time for Opening Day. If healthy, Casas is the heavy favorite to break camp as Boston's primary first baseman, but the Red Sox are keeping their options open at this early juncture of the offseason. Injuries have limited Casas to just 92 games over the last two seasons, and he slashed only .182/.277/.303 across 29 contests in 2025 before his knee injury.
Carlos Narvaez
Carlos Narvaez Set for meniscus surgery this week
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 10:31 AM
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday that Narvaez will undergo arthroscopic surgery this week to repair the meniscus in his left knee, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Narvaez played through a damaged meniscus for much of the second half of the regular season and will have a cleanup procedure on the knee following Boston's elimination from the playoffs. It's considered a minor surgery and is not expected to affect the catcher's availability for the start of spring training. After slashing .273/.347/.439 in the first half, Narvaez hit only .187/.233/.387 after the All-Star break, suggesting the knee issue hampered his offensive production. The 26-year-old should enter the 2026 campaign at the top of the catcher depth chart for the Red Sox.
Connelly Early
Connelly Early Takes loss against Yankees
Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 11:26 PM
Early (0-1) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out six to take the loss in Thursday's Wild-Card game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Early got through three innings with minimal trouble, recording multiple strikeouts in both the second and third frames. However, he got into trouble in his final inning of work, surrendering four hits and a walk to account for all of the runs against him. Early was also hurt by some shaky defense behind him, but he was ultimately outdueled by fellow rookie Cam Schlittler.
