Garrett Crochet
Garrett Crochet Strain worse than expected
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 9:53 PM
Crochet said Wednesday that his lat strain "is a lot worse" than the Red Sox originally thought, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Crochet also said that he has "no idea" when he'll be cleared to begin throwing. The 26-year-old southpaw was diagnosed with a low-grade lat strain June 2 that was initially expected to keep him sidelined until at least July, though his latest comments suggest he could be in for even longer of a wait. He's slated to undergo further imaging later in the week, at which point the team will have a better idea of the true severity of his injury and possibly a rough timeline for his return to the rotation.
Caleb Durbin
Caleb Durbin Goes yard twice in loss
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 3:38 PM
Durbin went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Rays.
Analysis: After Drew Rasmussen had blanked Boston for seven innings, Durbin sparked his team's offense to life with a long ball off Cole Sulser to lead off the eighth, following it up with another solo shot off Garrett Cleavinger in the ninth. Durbin came into the game with just one homer on the year, but over the last 12 games he's batting .341 (15-for-44) with five doubles, a triple and Wednesday's pair of home runs, along with one steal, six runs and nine RBI.
Jake Bennett
Jake Bennett Downed by Tampa
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 3:35 PM
Bennett (1-2) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings as the Red Sox fell 7-5 to the Rays. He struck out four.
Analysis: Facing Tampa Bay for the second time in his first three big-league starts, Bennett lost to Boston's AL East rival once again. The southpaw tossed 52 of 73 pitches for strikes, getting tagged for one run in the third inning and three more in the fifth before leaving the mound. He could stick around in the majors a little longer this time with Brayan Bello bumped down to Triple-A, but Bennett's 5.28 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 8:5 K:BB in 15.1 MLB innings isn't encouraging. The 25-year-old lines up to make his next start at home next week against the Blue Jays.
Marcelo Mayer
Marcelo Mayer Held out with back/neck stiffness
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 10:30 AM
Mayer is absent from Wednesday's lineup versus the Rays due to back and neck stiffness, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy is hopeful that Mayer will be available to pinch hit. However, with a team off day looming Thursday, the club could elect to stay away from Mayer on Wednesday with the goal of having him return to the lineup Friday, when the Red Sox begin a three-game set against the Rangers.
Marcelo Mayer
Marcelo Mayer On bench Wednesday
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 10:11 AM
Mayer is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest at Tampa Bay.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Mayer will get a rare day off versus a right-handed starting pitcher, as the Rays are sending Drew Rasmussen to the bump. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will handle shortstop for the Red Sox, leaving Andruw Monasterio to cover second base.
Jake Bennett
Jake Bennett Recalled to start Wednesday's game
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 9:51 AM
The Red Sox recalled Bennett from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Bennett will make a start against the Rays on Wednesday at Tropicana Field. The left-hander yielded five earned runs on 11 hits with a 4:4 K:BB in two starts with the Red Sox last month and boasts a 1.49 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB in 42.1 innings over 10 starts for Worcester. Bennett could get an opportunity to stick in the rotation for a while until Garrett Crochet (lat) is ready.
Alec Gamboa
Alec Gamboa Sent back to minors
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 9:44 AM
The Red Sox optioned Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: He's clearing out to make space on the roster for Jake Bennett, who will start Wednesday's contest in Tampa Bay. Gamboa made one appearance during his brief stint with the Red Sox, retiring both batters he faced.
Jake Bennett
Jake Bennett Joining rotation Wednesday
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 8:53 AM
The Red Sox will recall Bennett from Triple-A Worcester to start Wednesday's game against the Rays at Tropicana Field, Andrew Mahoney of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: As anticipated, Bennett will be stepping into the rotation spot vacated by Brayan Bello, who was optioned to Triple-A last week. Though he reached five innings in both of his first two big-league starts back in early May against the Astros and Rays, Bennett yielded five earned runs on 11 hits and four walks while striking out four across 10.1 frames. However, the 25-year-old lefty has performed as one of the top pitchers in the International League this season, running up a 1.49 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB in 42.1 innings over 10 starts for Worcester. With Bello now in the minors and Garrett Crochet (lat) weeks away from a return from the injured list, Bennett could have a pathway to an extended run in the big-league rotation if his performance warrants it.
Marcelo Mayer
Marcelo Mayer Drives in two runs Tuesday
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 8:23 PM
Mayer went 1-for-3 with a two-run double during Boston's 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
Analysis: Mayer brought the Red Sox to within one run after his groundball in the eighth inning ricocheted off first base, resulting in a double that brought home both Caleb Durbin and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Mayer has had an up-and-down season at the plate but has gone 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI through the first two games of the series against the Rays.
Payton Tolle
Payton Tolle Gives up four runs in loss
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 8:16 PM
Tolle (3-3) took the loss against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, allowing four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out three across six innings.
Analysis: Tolle allowed at least three baserunners in three of the six innings he pitched Tuesday, with three of the runs he yielded coming on three-straight hits in the fourth. He pitched into the sixth and was one out away from his sixth quality start of the season, but those hopes were dashed by an RBI single from Richie Palacios. The nine hits are the most Tolle has allowed in a major-league start, and the 23-year-old southpaw sits at a 2.70 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 54:14 K:BB across 53.1 innings this season. He's lined up to face the Blue Jays at Fenway Park next week.
Garrett Whitlock
Garrett Whitlock Back from IL
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 2:25 PM
The Red Sox reinstated Whitlock (knee) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: The right-hander has been dealing with knee inflammation for the past couple weeks but is ready to rejoin the big-league roster after a short stay on the shelf. Whitlock has been filling a high-leverage relief role for Boston this season and should reclaim that role now that he's healthy. He's posted a 3.20 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB across 19.2 innings with a 3-1 record and 10 holds in 20 appearances.
Anthony Seigler
Anthony Seigler Demoted to Triple-A
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 2:24 PM
The Red Sox optioned Seigler to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, reports Ian Browne of MLB.com.
Analysis: Seigler's stint with the big-league club will be short-lived after he was called up June 3. The 26-year-old recorded just four plate appearances in two games for the Red Sox. Boston will activate Garrett Whitlock (knee) from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.
Connelly Early
Connelly Early Fans six in fourth loss
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 9:50 PM
Early (5-4) took the loss Monday against the Rays, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: Early struggled with his control Monday, matching a season worst in walks allowed while tossing only 54 of his 96 pitches for strikes. On a more positive note, however, the 24-year-old right-hander did extend his streak of starts with at least five strikeouts to six. Early will carry a strong 3.30 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 69:27 K:BB over 71 innings into his next scheduled outing at home versus the Rangers.
Masataka Yoshida
Masataka Yoshida Idle for series opener
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 4:16 PM
Yoshida is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: The Rays are having left-hander Ian Seymour open the game, so the left-handed-hitting Yoshida will begin Monday's contest on the bench. In Yoshida's stead, the Red Sox will go with Mickey Gasper at designated hitter.
Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Still not swinging
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 4:12 PM
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Monday that Anthony (finger) remains shut down from swinging a bat, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Anthony landed on the injured list May 7 due to what the team initially labeled as a right wrist sprain before later reclassifying the injury as a sprained ligament on the base of his right ring finger. The 22-year-old outfielder had made enough progress to resume taking dry swings in late May before being shut down when he experienced renewed soreness while trying to hit off a tee. He's remained in a holding pattern in his recovery ever since, making it increasingly likely that he'll be shelved through at least the end of the month. Anthony's ongoing absence should continue to open up a regular spot in the lineup for Masataka Yoshida when the Red Sox face right-handed pitching.
Nate Eaton
Nate Eaton Back with big club
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 2:33 PM
The Red Sox recalled Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Monday.
Analysis: The Red Sox are swapping in a position player in Eaton for reliever Joe La Sorsa. Eaton was with Boston for a brief period of time earlier this season but did not see any action. He's slashed .283/.348/.450 with five home runs, eight steals and an 18:45 BB:K with Worcester in 2026.
Joe La Sorsa
Joe La Sorsa Sent out to Triple-A
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 1:32 PM
The Red Sox optioned La Sorsa to Triple-A Worcester on Monday.
Analysis: La Sorsa was just added to the Boston roster last week and made just one appearance, giving up a solo home run to one of the two batters he faced. The lefty reliever is being replaced on the active roster by utility player Nate Eaton, who was recalled from Worcester.
Nate Eaton
Nate Eaton Set to join Boston
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 11:36 AM
The Red Sox are expected to recall Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Analysis: Eaton is with the team in Tampa Bay ahead of the Red Sox's three-game set versus the Rays. The 29-year-old utility man appeared in 41 games with Boston last season and showed well at the plate, slashing .296/.348/.383 with one home run, four RBI, 16 runs scored, nine stolen bases and a 6:19 BB:K across 90 plate appearances. Though he was previously up with the Red Sox for a brief time in late April, he didn't see any action before being optioned back to Worcester, where he's produced a .798 OPS over 205 plate appearances on the season. Eaton will provide the Red Sox with some added versatility off the bench and could end up seeing regular starts versus left-handed pitching.
Justin Slaten
Justin Slaten Wheels come off in loss
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 8:05 AM
Slaten (0-3) was the losing pitcher Sunday, when he allowed four runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two over two-thirds of an inning in a 6-1 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: It all looked good for Slaten, who struck out the first two batters faced, including slugger Ben Rice, before the lefty-swinging Cody Bellinger took him deep to break a 1-1 tie. To that point in the season, the right-handed Slaten had allowed just one hit and one walk to left-handed hitters over 23 plate appearances. From there, the inning spiraled out of control and the normally trustworthy Slaten gave up four runs for the second time in four outings.
Patrick Sandoval
Patrick Sandoval Next rehab start scheduled
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 7:49 AM
Sandoval (biceps) will make his next rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Currently in the midst of his second rehab assignment of the season, Sandoval is being built up slowly while he works his way back from left biceps discomfort. During his previous rehab outing Friday with Worcester, the left-hander threw 16 pitches over 1.1 innings, allowing no hits and walking one batter.
