Jarren Duran
Jarren Duran Three-run double in win Sunday
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 6:32 PM
Duran went 1-for-4 with a three-run double, one walk and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: With one out and the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning, Duran plugged the gap in left-center with a bases-clearing, three-run double to give Boston a 6-1 lead. He later scored on a single by Willson Contreras. Like a number of Red Sox hitters, Duran has struggled early in the 2026 season. He's now slashing .196/.302/.261 with three doubles, eight RBI, nine runs scored, two stolen bases and a 6:14 BB:K across 53 trips to the plate.
Trevor Story
Trevor Story Four hits, two RBI in victory
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 6:28 PM
Story went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: The shortstop entered Sunday batting .131 with a .354 OPS, so it's been a struggle for Story across the first two-plus weeks of the 2026 season. Sunday marked his first multi-hit game of the campaign, and he upped his slash line to .182/.188/.273 with the four-hit afternoon. Story singled and scored in the second inning, singled again in the third, singled to lead off the fifth and had a two-run double in the ninth to pad the Boston lead. Through 69 plate appearances, Story has one homer, 11 RBI, four runs scored and a 1:21 BB:K.
Willson Contreras
Willson Contreras Four hits, homer in win Sunday
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 6:23 PM
Contreras went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run and three RBI in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Visiting Busch Stadium for the first time since he was traded by St. Louis to Boston over the winter, Contreras had a big series at the plate for the Red Sox, going 6-for-13 with the homer, a double and six RBI across the three contests. The veteran first baseman is now slashing .302/.448/.509 with three long balls, 11 RBI, eight runs scored and an 11:16 BB:K across 67 plate appearances to begin the 2026 campaign.
Brayan Bello
Brayan Bello Stymies St. Louis for first win
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 6:18 PM
Bello (1-1) earned the win Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts across 6.2 innings.
Analysis: The Cardinals were making plenty of contact against Bello, but they were hitting it right at the Boston defense, so it was enough for Bello to work into the seventh inning and earn his first win of the 2026 campaign. Bello now owns an uninspiring 6.14 ERA and 9:9 K:BB across 14.2 innings through three starts. He's in line to face the Tigers at home Saturday.
Carlos Narvaez
Carlos Narvaez Receiving breather Sunday
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 1:10 PM
Narvez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Narvaez will get a chance to catch his breath after he had started behind the plate in each of the Red Sox's previous three contests. Connor Wong will form a battery with starting pitcher Brayan Bello in the series finale.
Caleb Durbin
Caleb Durbin Collects two RBI in win
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 9:46 AM
Durbin went 1-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 7-1 win over St. Louis.
Analysis: Durbin was part of Boston's five-run ninth inning, the team's highest scoring inning of the season. His two-run single made it a 5-1 game, and he scored the final run. Durbin has at least one RBI in three of the last four games, but his .114/.188/.136 slash line has been a drag on the Red Sox.
Ranger Suarez
Ranger Suarez Tosses six scoreless in win
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 10:02 PM
Suarez (1-1) earned the win against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six over six scoreless innings.
Analysis: Suarez cruised through six frames, throwing 55 of 84 pitches for strikes while limiting the Cardinals to only singles. It was a much-needed effort for the 30-year-old, who picked up his first win with the Red Sox after allowing four earned runs in each of his first two outings this season. He'll carry a 5.02 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB across 14.1 innings into a home matchup against the Tigers next weekend.
Willson Contreras
Willson Contreras Drives in three in win
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 9:51 PM
Contreras went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Contreras laced a two-run double in the fourth inning before adding an RBI single in the ninth. The 33-year-old has been on fire since the calendar flipped to April, hitting safely in seven of nine games with four extra-base hits and all eight of his RBI on the season. Overall, he's slashing .250/.419/.417 with two homers and seven runs scored across 62 plate appearances.
Triston Casas
Triston Casas Latest injury likely oblique issue
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 6:46 PM
Casas (knee) will be "out a while" with what is now being described as a likely oblique issue, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Casas opened the season the 10-day injured list while continuing to rehab from left knee surgery. He had been swinging a bat but was shut down in early April with what was initially deemed a left intercostal strain. Casas tried to resume swinging less than a week later, but that didn't go well, and he was consequently sent in for an MRI. While Boston is still waiting for the results of that imaging, manager Alex Cora said Saturday that the organization is now treating the issue "like an oblique, rib injury." Cora added, "He's going to be out for a while but we're still waiting for the news from the doctor."
Wilyer Abreu
Wilyer Abreu Registers two hits in loss
Sat, Apr 11, 2026, 9:34 AM
Abreu went 2-for-4 in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Abreu accounted for two of Boston's five singles on a night when the team couldn't take advantage of St. Louis righty Dustin May, who entered the contest having allowed 13 runs and 17 hits over 7.1 innings. Abreu has been the one constant source of offense for the Red Sox to open the season. He has hits in 11 of 13 games, including multiple hits in seven of them, and is slashing .392/.415/.686 with eight extra-base hits and nine RBI. As manager Alex Cora attempts to shoehorn five viable outfielders into four spots -- Roman Anthony sat Friday -- Abreu's bat may not be part of that rotation.
Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Out of Boston's lineup
Fri, Apr 10, 2026, 3:35 PM
Anthony is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in St. Louis.
Analysis: Anthony is slashing only .217/.308/.348 in the early going and has also had throwing issues on days he's played the outfield. He'll begin Friday's contest on the bench while Jarren Duran handles left field and Masataka Yoshida occupies the designated hitter slot.
Anthony Seigler
Anthony Seigler Activated and optioned
Fri, Apr 10, 2026, 8:33 AM
The Red Sox activated Seigler (knee) from the 10-day injured list Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester.
Analysis: Seigler began a rehab assignment with Worcester on Thursday after recovering from left knee patellar tendinopathy, and the Red Sox will keep him with their top minor-league affiliate rather than add him to the active big-league roster. The 26-year-old utility player was acquired via trade from the Brewers over the offseason.
Trevor Story
Trevor Story Records two RBI again
Thu, Apr 9, 2026, 6:50 AM
Story went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Wednesday's 5-0 win over Milwaukee.
Analysis: Story plated runs on a sacrifice fly and a single, giving him three consecutive games with two RBI. All that run production came after the shortstop was dropped from second in the order to fifth. After a bumpy start, Story's now hit in four consecutive games.
Patrick Sandoval
Patrick Sandoval Makes first rehab start
Thu, Apr 9, 2026, 6:36 AM
Sandoval (elbow) allowed three unearned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three over 3.1 innings for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.
Analysis: Sandoval made his first appearance in a game that counts since June 2024. He was victimized by shaky defense, including his own, in the first inning, when all three runs scored. Results, however, were less important than the left-hander getting in the work. Sandoval threw 63 pitches (35 strikes) and got four up-and-downs. He's expected to make several outings while on rehab before the Red Sox decide where Sandoval best fits in with the pitching staff.
Sonny Gray
Sonny Gray Fires 6.1 scoreless frames
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 4:39 PM
Gray (2-0) earned the win Wednesday versus the Brewers, allowing three hits and two walks over 6.1 scoreless innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: The veteran right-hander induced just seven whiffs on 90 pitches (53 strikes) but gave up just two singles and a double to Milwaukee. It's the second straight quality start and victory for Gray, who now has a 2.76 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB over 16.1 innings through his first three outings with the Red Sox.
Caleb Durbin
Caleb Durbin Makes impact off bench
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 10:46 AM
Durbin entered Tuesday's game as a pinch hitter and went 0-for-1 with an RBI in a 3-2 win over Milwaukee. He remained in the game at third base.
Analysis: Durbin pinch hit for Marcelo Mayer in a tie game with runners in scoring position against a left-hander in the sixth inning and plated the eventual game-winning run on a slow roller to second base. Following an 0-for-18 start to the season, Durbin has found moderate success since, going 4-for-15 with a walk, a double and two RBI over the last five games.
Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Early throwing issues
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 10:35 AM
Anthony had three instances of poor throws from left field early in the regular season which have been a topic of discussion, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Anthony had two throws to home plate during the team's season-opening road trip which were not close, including one that arrived on multiple bounces. He followed up with an offline throw to third base Monday that led to two runs in an 8-6 loss. Both manager Alex Cora and third base coach Kyle Hudson, who was an outfielder during his tenure as a player in the majors and minors, believe the issue revolves around Anthony's lower-half mechanics. Hudson indicated the arm strength is there, but improper mechanics puts him in a tough position to maximize the strength. Anthony served as the DH on Tuesday, and his throwing issues aren't going to cost him plate appearances; however, as Cora manages playing time for five worthy outfielders, limiting Anthony to DH reduces roster flexibility. It's unclear when he'll return to the outfield, but when he does, teams are expected to challenge Anthony's arm.
Johan Oviedo
Johan Oviedo Shut down with flexor strain
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 10:28 AM
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Oviedo will be shut down for six week after being diagnosed with a right flexor strain, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Cora is optimistic Oviedo can avoid surgery, but the Red Sox will have to wait and see if the injury heals with extended rest. Oviedo will need plenty of time to get ramped back up after the six-week shutdown period, so he'll be in line for an extended absence, even if all goes well during the recovery process. The righty is already on the 15-day injured list and is a candidate to shift to the 60-day IL if/when Boston needs to free up a spot on its 40-man roster.
Zack Kelly
Zack Kelly Succeeds in high-leverage spot
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 10:01 AM
Kelly retired both batters he faced in the seventh inning to earn a hold in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Milwaukee.
Analysis: Kelly entered a high-leverage situation that might normally be entrusted to Justin Slaten, but Slaten was unavailable due to an oblique injury. With Boston leading, 3-1, the bases loaded and one out, Kelly limited the damage to one run on a pair of groundouts and recorded his first hold. In three appearances since being called up from Triple-A Worcester last week, the right-handed reliever has allowed one run and one hit while striking out one over 2.2 innings. The 31-year-old Kelly is a well-known commodity in the bullpen, having made 98 appearances for the Red Sox over the previous four seasons.
Justin Slaten
Justin Slaten Shelved with oblique strain
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 9:18 AM
The Red Sox placed Slaten on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a right oblique strain.
Analysis: Boston had previously noted that Slaten wasn't available out of the bullpen for Tuesday's 3-2 win over Milwaukee due to a sore oblique, but the righty reliever will now be shut down for at least two weeks after being diagnosed with a strain. The Red Sox recalled lefty Tyler Samaniego from Triple-A Worcester to take Slaten's spot in the bullpen. For his part, Slaten believes his injury is minor and is hopeful to return from the IL when first eligible April 20, per Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic.
