Payton Tolle
Payton Tolle Fans six in Tuesday's loss
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 8:27 AM
Tolle (3-4) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks over five innings as the Red Sox fell 6-1 to the Blue Jays. He struck out six.
Analysis: The southpaw didn't pitch poorly but served up his first homers in a month, as Davis Schneider and Andres Gimenez both took him deep for solo shots in the fifth inning. Through 10 starts since his promotion in late April, Tolle has delivered a 2.93 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 60:16 K:BB over 58.1 innings and has helped stabilize a Boston rotation that's currently missing Garrett Crochet (shoulder), Tanner Houck (elbow), Patrick Sandoval (bicep) and other starting options. Tolle lines up to make his next start on the road this weekend in Seattle.
Mickey Gasper
Mickey Gasper Enters Tuesday's game
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 6:24 AM
Gasper (groin) went 0-for-1 as a pinch hitter and played the final inning as the catcher in Tuesday's 6-1 loss to the Blue Jays.
Analysis: With two outs and two runners on in the eighth inning, Gasper pinch hit for starting catcher Connor Wong but struck out against Toronto closer Louis Varland. That Gasper could operate behind the plate -- even for only one inning -- indicates he could rejoin Boston's starting lineup Wednesday after opening the last two games on the bench.
Romy Gonzalez
Romy Gonzalez Kicks off rehab assignment
Wed, Jun 17, 2026, 6:15 AM
Gonzalez (shoulder) went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run for Double-A Portland on Tuesday.
Analysis: Gonzalez, who opened a rehab assignment with the Sea Dogs, started at second base and played seven innings. It's unclear how many at-bats he'll need while on rehab, but Gonzalez has been taking batting practice off the Trajekt machine, which has helped rehabbing players shorten their rehab times, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. He's next scheduled to serve as the designated hitter on Wednesday followed by a day off Thursday. If he responds well, Gonzalez will likely play three consecutive days over the weekend.
Romy Gonzalez
Romy Gonzalez Starting rehab stint
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 3:38 PM
Gonzalez (shoulder) is beginning a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland on Tuesday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gonzalez has been on the shelf all season after undergoing shoulder surgery in March, but he's finally been cleared for game action. The 29-year-old is expected to split his playing time between second base and designated hitter in the minors, and he'll likely need at least a handful of games during the rehab stint before being activated from the IL.
Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Follow-up MRI clean
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 3:24 PM
Anthony (finger) underwent a follow-up MRI on Tuesday that came back clean, but he's not yet cleared to swing a bat, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: The 22-year-old has attempted to swing a bat a couple times but has felt pain when swinging, so interim manager Chad Tracy said the club is taking it day-by-day with Anthony's progress. The MRI results are an encouraging development, but the young outfielder still has a long way to go before potentially coming off the injured list.
Garrett Crochet
Garrett Crochet Close to playing catch
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 3:15 PM
Crochet (shoulder/lat) began throwing a plyometric ball Tuesday as the first step of his throwing program, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The left-hander is expected to work with the plyo ball for about a week before potentially progressing to a baseball. Crochet continues to work his way back from shoulder inflammation and a lat strain and isn't expected to rejoin the Red Sox until after the All-Star break.
Mickey Gasper
Mickey Gasper Remains out Tuesday
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 1:39 PM
Gasper (groin) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Blue Jays.
Analysis: He'll miss a second straight start after having started each of the previous seven tilts. Gasper is considered day-to-day. Connor Wong will do the catching and Masataka Yoshida will serve as the designated hitter for the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Jake Bennett
Jake Bennett Handed another start
Tue, Jun 16, 2026, 1:07 PM
Bennett is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Currently in the midst of his second stint with the Red Sox of the season, Bennett has reached five innings in each of his first three MLB starts, but he's delivered poor ratios (5.28 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 4.6 K-BB%). He'll get another chance Wednesday to stake his claim to a more permanent stay in the Boston rotation, taking on a Blue Jays squad that has struggled against left-handed pitching this season (.292 wOBA, 27th in MLB).
Connelly Early
Connelly Early Ineffective in fifth loss
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 11:22 PM
Early (5-5) took the loss Sunday, allowing six runs on 11 hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against the Rangers. He struck out three.
Analysis: After allowing a leadoff long ball to Wyatt Langford, Early struggled to settle in, surrendering a three-run homer to Kyle Higashioka in the second inning and a two-run double to Brandon Nimmo in the fourth frame. It marked a season-worst outing for the southpaw in both hits and runs allowed, as his previous highs were six hits and five runs. Owning a 3.81 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 72:29 K:BB across 75.2 innings (14 starts), Early will look to get back on track next time out, tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Mariners.
Tyler Uberstine
Tyler Uberstine Back from IL
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 5:33 PM
Triple-A Worcester reinstated Uberstine (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Sunday.
Analysis: Uberstine rejoins Worcester after he had been on the shelf for two months due to a sore right shoulder. The 27-year-old was activated after turning in a 5.14 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB in seven innings over four rehab appearances for High-A Greenville.
Masataka Yoshida
Masataka Yoshida Back in lineup as leadoff man
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 4:45 PM
Yoshida will start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: After being left out of the lineup for the first two contests of the series even with the Rangers sending a pair of right-handers to the hill, Yoshida will make his return to the starting nine as Boston's table setter. Mickey Gasper filled those duties the previous two games, but he'll head to the bench Sunday while he manages a tight groin. If Gasper's groin issue is only a short-term concern, Yoshida might have to settle for a part-time role while he's running cold at the plate. Since the start of June, Yoshida has gone 2-for-18 with a 1:6 BB:K in five games.
Mickey Gasper
Mickey Gasper Nursing tight groin
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 3:25 PM
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said that Gasper is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers due to slight groin tightness, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gasper started the previous seven games -- three at catcher, four at designated hitter -- but will be forced to the bench Sunday due to the groin issue. The injury doesn't seem to be a serious concern, and the 30-year-old will have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery. Carlos Narvaez is starting behind the plate Sunday for Boston.
Jarren Duran
Jarren Duran Provides insurance in win
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 9:27 AM
Duran went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: The Rangers made it a one-run game in the top of the eighth inning before Duran put it out of reach with a two-run blast in the bottom of the frame. The homer was 11th of the season for Duran, who clubbed nine during the month of May but entered Saturday batting .158 (6-for-38) with one RBI over his first nine games in June.
Ceddanne Rafaela
Ceddanne Rafaela Delivers decisive hit
Sun, Jun 14, 2026, 9:20 AM
Rafaela went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday's 6-3 win over Texas.
Analysis: Rafaela delivered a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning which turned out to be the game-winning hit. He continued a productive stretch of offense and is 15-for-41 (.366) with two home runs and nine RBI over 10 games since the calendar flipped to June.
Aroldis Chapman
Aroldis Chapman Stellar campaign continues
Sat, Jun 13, 2026, 10:22 PM
Chapman secured the save Saturday against the Rangers, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks in the ninth inning. He struck out two.
Analysis: Chapman continues to put together a spectacular campaign as Boston's closer. The 37-year-old southpaw last gave up an earned run during his April 4 outing against the Padres, riding a streak of 17 consecutive scoreless outings. For the year, Chapman has a 0.44 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB while going a perfect 14-for-14 in save situations.
Ranger Suarez
Ranger Suarez Punches out seven in no-decision
Sat, Jun 13, 2026, 9:51 PM
Suarez took a no-decision Saturday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: Suarez gave the Red Sox five strong innings while keeping the ball in the yard Saturday. The 30-year-old southpaw has tossed at least five innings in four consecutive starts, and he's also served up just a pair of home runs since the start of April after surrendering two long balls in his season debut. Suarez will take a strong 3.21 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 70:21 K:BB across 70 innings into his next scheduled outing at pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Continues to feel pain in hand
Sat, Jun 13, 2026, 3:17 PM
Anthony is still feeling pain in his injured right hand when swinging, though he believes he is progressing, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Anthony has been out of action since early May due to a sprained ligament at the base of his right ring finger. He's resumed swinging a bat and then been shut down on multiple occasions, as he hasn't yet been able to shed the discomfort caused by the injury. Anthony explained Saturday, "Progressing a lot slower than I had imagined in the beginning of this but definitely progressing, which is the biggest thing. It's just pain in my hand. That's what it was until it's not that, I'll be here. But as soon as it feels like it starts to get a whole lot better, I'm sure we'll have a better idea of where we're at and how it's going to go from there." The star slugger isn't expected to be ready to return to action until at least early July, and he'll likely need to be able to swing at full capacity without pain before the Red Sox feel comfortable activating him.
Sonny Gray
Sonny Gray Fans seven in eighth win
Sat, Jun 13, 2026, 3:11 PM
Gray (8-1) earned the win Friday against the Rangers, allowing one earned run on five hits and zero walks while striking out seven batters over six innings.
Analysis: Gray got into a bit of trouble early, allowing three of the first four batters he faced to record a hit and putting the Red Sox in an early 1-0 hole. However, he managed to regain his composure and keep the Rangers off the scoreboard for the rest of the night while allowing just two additional hits. The 36-year-old righty remains as dependable as ever, allowing three runs or fewer in each of his last eight starts and collecting wins in six of them. He's lined up to make his next start at home against Toronto.
Ceddanne Rafaela
Ceddanne Rafaela Homers in two straight
Sat, Jun 13, 2026, 10:02 AM
Rafaela went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and two additional runs scored in Friday's 10-1 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Rafaela belted his second homer in as many games and has knocked in six runs the last two nights. During the month of June, the center fielder is slashing .351/.368/.595 with five extra-base hits, seven RBI, a stolen base and six runs scored over nine games.
Wilyer Abreu
Wilyer Abreu Shakes off slump
Sat, Jun 13, 2026, 9:57 AM
Abreu went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and two additional runs scored in Friday's 10-1 win over Texas.
Analysis: It was a big night for hitters No. 2 through 4 in Boston's order. Ceddanne Rafaela, Abreu and Willson Contreras combined to go 9-for-13 with five doubles, three home runs and eight RBI in the win. Abreu entered the game with a .194 average and .535 OPS over his first eight games in June.
