AJ Smith-Shawver
AJ Smith-Shawver Making first rehab start Tuesday
Mon, Jun 29, 2026, 9:35 AM
Smith-Shawver is slated to make the first start of his rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Augusta, Barrett Sallee of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.
Analysis: After completing a series of bullpen sessions and live batting practice sessions as he works his way back from June 2025 Tommy John surgery, Smith-Shawver threw a two-inning simulated game at Atlanta's spring training facility in Florida as a final step before embarking on a rehab assignment. He'll likely build on that two-inning workload during Tuesday's outing and will presumably need at least three or four more rehab starts beyond that before Atlanta brings him back from the 60-day injured list. Smith-Shawver still has a minor-league option remaining, but if his velocity and command looks good during his rehab assignment, Atlanta may have room for him in the big-league rotation. Before undergoing elbow surgery last summer, Smith-Shawver posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 42:21 K:BB In 44.1 innings over nine starts with Atlanta.
Matt Olson
Matt Olson Knocks three hits
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 6:05 PM
Olson went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's 3-2 loss to San Francisco.
Analysis: Olson accounted for half of Atlanta's hits. He earned his third multi-hit effort in the last four games, a span that includes two doubles. The first baseman is still in a bit of a power drought -- that pair of two-baggers represents his only extra-base hits since his last homer, which came June 12 versus the Mets. Olson is batting .276 with an .875 OPS, 20 homers, 52 RBI, 54 runs scored, 21 doubles and two stolen bases over 82 contests this season.
Chris Sale
Chris Sale Strikes out 10 in loss
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 6:02 PM
Sale (8-6) allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out 10 over six innings, taking the loss versus San Francisco on Sunday.
Analysis: Sale was good, throwing 68 of 94 pitches for strikes, but Robbie Ray was a little more efficient in this pitching duel. Sale hadn't completed six innings in any of his last four outings, giving up nine runs (seven earned) over 22 frames in that span. This was his second game with double-digit strikeouts this season. The star southpaw has a 2.10 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 109:22 K:BB through 90 innings across 15 starts this season. Sale is projected to make his next start at home versus the Mets.
Dominic Smith
Dominic Smith Heading to bench Sunday
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 3:08 PM
Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Smith will head to the bench while southpaw Robbie Ray takes the hill for the Giants. With Smith out of the lineup, Drake Baldwin will get a day from catching but will stick in the starting nine at designated hitter.
Mike Yastrzemski
Mike Yastrzemski Sitting against southpaw
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 3:07 PM
Yastrzemski is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Though he'll hit the bench while southpaw Robbie Ray takes the hill for the Giants, Yastrzemski still appears to have a hold on a strong-side platoon role in the corner outfield. Yastrzemski has been seeing most of his starts in right field of late but should slide over to left field on a more regular basis once Ronald Acuna (hamstring) eventually returns from the injured list.
Eli White
Eli White Losing time versus righties
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 3:04 PM
White is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Though he'll draw a start Sunday while lefty Robbie Ray toes the rubber for the Giants, the right-handed-hitting White has seen his opportunities to play against right-handed pitching dwindle of late. Atlanta has used Ha-Seong Kim at shortstop in its past two matchups versus righties, resulting in Mauricio Dubon moving into a corner-outfield spot and bumping White from the lineup on both occasions.
Drake Baldwin
Drake Baldwin Serving as DH
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 2:01 PM
Baldwin is batting fifth as the designated hitter Sunday against the Giants.
Analysis: It's the 10th start in 11 games since Baldwin returned from the injured list in mid-June. The 25-year-old homered in his first game back from the oblique strain but overall has struggled, going 2-for-39 with a walk and 20 strikeouts. That poor stretch has lowered his OPS for the season from .931 to .813 through 58 contests.
Grant Holmes
Grant Holmes Used in long relief
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 8:49 AM
Holmes allowed one hit and no walks while striking out four across four scoreless innings out of the bullpen during Saturday's 5-0 loss to the Giants.
Analysis: Manager Walt Weiss indicated that Holmes would be available as a reliever this weekend if needed, and the skipper called upon the right-hander after starter Bryce Elder surrendered five runs across four innings. Holmes lasted fewer than five frames in each of his last three starts and had a 6.10 ERA, 2.03 WHIP and 8:10 K:BB across 10.1 innings during those appearances, but the strong showing out of the bullpen could help him to get back on track. The 30-year-old was expected to make his usual turn through the starting rotation this week if he went unused in relief, so he should slot back into the rotation next weekend versus the Mets after the bullpen appearance.
Carlos Carrasco
Carlos Carrasco Back with Atlanta
Sun, Jun 28, 2026, 8:22 AM
Carrasco signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Saturday.
Analysis: The 39-year-old elected free agency after being designated for assignment by Atlanta on Wednesday, but he'll return to the club on a minor-league deal for the sixth time in 2026. Carrasco has pitched decently in the majors this season with a 3.68 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 6:1 K:BB across 14.2 relief innings.
Carlos Santana
Carlos Santana Reaches MiLB deal with Atlanta
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 9:44 PM
Santana agreed to a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Saturday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Santana struggled mightily with Arizona early in the season, slashing .083/.154/.125 with a 2:8 BB:K over 26 plate appearances. The 40-year-old then suffered an adductor strain in early April, and when he was activated from the IL this past Wednesday, he was subsequently designated for assignment. Santana ultimately cleared waivers and was released, clearing the way for him to get a look from Atlanta. He'll presumably begin his stint with the organization as veteran depth at Triple-A Gwinnett, but if he performs well he could get another chance in the majors.
Grant Holmes
Grant Holmes Available out of pen, next start TBD
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 6:43 PM
Atlanta manager Walt Weiss said Saturday that Holmes will be available out of the bullpen this weekend but that the righty hurler could still start next week if he doesn't end up pitching in relief, Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: Holmes has struggled of late, logging no more than 4.2 innings over his past three starts and pitching to a 6.10 ERA, 2.03 WHIP and 10:8 K:BB over that span. His next start is projected to be Tuesday against St. Louis, but that outing may now hinge on whether Holmes is needed out of the bullpen this weekend in San Francisco. If Holmes does indeed appear in relief, Atlanta could opt to move Martin Perez up a day, since he'd be working on five days of rest after last appearing Wednesday against San Diego.
Ha-Seong Kim
Ha-Seong Kim Struggles continue Friday
Sat, Jun 27, 2026, 9:48 AM
Kim went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Friday's win over the Giants.
Analysis: Making his second straight start at shortstop while batting ninth in the order, Kim saw his hitless streak extend to 25 plate appearances -- his last base knock was a single back on June 3. His struggles, both at the plate and in the field, since returning from finger surgery in mid-May have cost him his starting job at shortstop and allowed Jorge Mateo to get consistent playing time, but Atlanta hasn't completely given up on Kim. If he doesn't turn things around soon, however, the team could have a tough decision to make about his future once Ronald Acuna (hamstring) returns from the IL in July and frees Mauricio Dubon up for regular shortstop duty again. Over 76 PAs in 2026, Kim is slashing a woeful .072/.158/.072 with a career-worst 26.3 percent strikeout rate.
Robert Suarez
Robert Suarez MRI comes back clean
Fri, Jun 26, 2026, 7:46 PM
An MRI on Suarez's right elbow came back negative Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Suarez landed on the injured list Friday due to inflammation in his elbow, but he doesn't seem to be dealing with a serious injury and is expected to return sometime shortly after the All-Star break. In the meantime, Dylan Lee and Tyler Kinley will be candidates to work more often as a setup man for closer Raisel Iglesias.
Hurston Waldrep
Hurston Waldrep Recalled to Atlanta
Fri, Jun 26, 2026, 5:45 PM
Atlanta recalled Waldrep from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.
Analysis: Waldrep has yet to make his season debut for Atlanta after undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow back in February. The 24-year-old was reinstated from the IL on June 12 and has been with Gwinnett ever since. Atlanta placed Robert Suarez on the 15-day IL, opening a roster spot for Waldrep with the big-league club and a long-awaited season debut to come.
Robert Suarez
Robert Suarez Placed on injured list
Fri, Jun 26, 2026, 5:45 PM
Atlanta placed Suarez on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Tuesday, with right elbow inflammation.
Analysis: Suarez hasn't pitched since last Friday due to what was originally described as forearm tightness, though further evaluation has since determined that the 35-year-old is dealing with an elbow issue. It remains unknown whether his injury is due to a structural issue, but more information about his return timeline could come out in the near future. Hurston Waldrep was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.
Martin Perez
Martin Perez Chased in fifth inning
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 11:27 PM
Perez (6-4) allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four over four-plus innings to take the loss Wednesday versus San Diego.
Analysis: Perez didn't have his best command Wednesday, throwing just 42 of 82 pitches for strikes. James Karinchak allowed an inherited runner to score after Perez put the first two batters aboard in the fifth inning, and that run ended up being the difference in the game. Perez is now at a 3.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 60:27 K:BB through 72 innings over 16 games (12 starts) this season. The veteran left-hander has yet to allow more than four runs in a game this year, making him a reliable starter more often than not. Atlanta needs that with its rotation looking a little thin. Perez is projected to make his next start at home versus the Cardinals.
Reynaldo Lopez
Reynaldo Lopez Starting Friday
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 4:37 PM
Lopez will start Friday's game against the Giants, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Lopez began the season in Atlanta's rotation but was moved to the bullpen in April after posting a 3.74 ERA and 1.43 WHIP alongside a 20:11 K:BB over 21.2 innings across five starts. He'll now get another chance to work as a starter following JR Ritchie's demotion to Triple-A, though Lopez's first opportunity will come against a Giants offense that's posted a .799 OPS since the beginning of June. The 32-year-old threw just 58 pitches across three innings during his most recent appearance Sunday, and he said Wednesday that he'll likely have a similar workload during his upcoming start, per Bowman.
Drake Baldwin
Drake Baldwin Getting breather Wednesday
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 4:12 PM
Baldwin isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against San Diego.
Analysis: The lefty-hitting Baldwin doesn't typically retreat to the bench whenever Atlanta runs into a left-handed starter, but after going 0-for-20 with 13 strikeouts over his last five games, he'll step out of the lineup with southpaw JP Sears on the mound for the Padres. Joey Bart will start behind the plate and bat seventh while Baldwin sits.
Ian Hamilton
Ian Hamilton Rejoins big-league bullpen
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 12:41 PM
Atlanta selected Hamilton's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.
Analysis: Hamilton was knocked around for three runs over an inning of work in his lone appearance for Atlanta earlier this season. He's been much better at Gwinnett, however, with a 3.18 ERA and 28:6 K:BB over 22.2 innings. Hamilton will give the club a fresh bullpen arm.
Carlos Carrasco
Carlos Carrasco Scrubbed from 40-man roster
Wed, Jun 24, 2026, 12:38 PM
Atlanta designated Carrasco for assignment Wednesday.
Analysis: It's already the fifth time he's been designated for assignment this season. Carrasco has re-upped with Atlanta on the previous four occasions and will likely do so again. He's allowed six runs with a 6:1 K:BB over 14.2 innings in a mop-up role with the big club this season.
