Chase Petty
Chase Petty Drawing start during doubleheader
Fri, May 22, 2026, 1:54 PM
Petty will start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Reds and Cardinals have a twin bill Saturday after Friday's game was rained out, and Petty will be up to serve as the 27th man on the roster. Petty made one spot start earlier this season for Cincinnati, allowing three runs with a 1:2 K:BB over 5.2 innings. The righty holds a 6.32 ERA and 31:15 K:BB across 31.1 frames covering eight starts with Triple-A Louisville this season.
Ke'Bryan Hayes
Ke'Bryan Hayes Sidelined by back injury
Fri, May 22, 2026, 1:43 PM
The Reds placed Hayes on the 10-day injured list Friday with a lumbar bulging disc.
Analysis: Per C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic, Hayes' back has been an issue for years and has bothered him off-and-on this season. The plan is for Hayes to get healed up before reporting to the team's spring training complex in Arizona to initiate his rehab. It sounds like an injury that is likely to keep him out beyond 10 days, and the Reds could want Hayes to find a groove at the plate on a rehab assignment before reinstating him. The 29-year-old is slashing an ugly .142/.195/.225this season.
Eugenio Suarez
Eugenio Suarez Activated from 10-day IL
Fri, May 22, 2026, 1:37 PM
The Reds activated Suarez (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Analysis: He missed exactly one month of action with a left oblique strain but is ready to go after participating in two rehab games, going 1-for-7 with a double. Reds manager Terry Francona said Friday that Suarez will be eased back into an everyday role, as they "don't want to run him into the ground," Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Chris Paddack
Chris Paddack Cardinals-Reds game postponed
Fri, May 22, 2026, 1:24 PM
Paddack will have his start pushed back after Friday's game against the Cardinals was postponed by inclement weather.
Analysis: The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Saturday, and Paddack should take the ball in one of those contests. Paddack allowed two runs over five innings against the Guardians last week in his first start for the Reds.
Rhett Lowder
Rhett Lowder Will face hitters early next week
Thu, May 21, 2026, 3:50 PM
Lowder (shoulder) is expected to face hitters early next week, Charlie Goldsmith of of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: Lowder recently resumed throwing off the mound as he works his way back from an AC joint issue in his right shoulder, and he's almost ready to face hitters. The righty said he's "pushed to be aggressive to get back as fast as possible," but he will not quite be ready when first eligible Monday. It shouldn't be long after that, however, as long as Lowder's recovery continues at its current trajectory.
Zach McCambley Dealt to Reds
Thu, May 21, 2026, 12:27 PM
The Reds acquired McCambley from the Marlins on Thursday in exchange for Rece Hinds, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports.
Analysis: McCambley was a Rule 5 pick of the Phillies over the offseason but was returned to the Marlins. He's now on the move again and will give the Reds bullpen depth at Triple-A Louisville. McCambley has collected a 2.36 ERA and 32:17 K:BB across 26.2 frames this season at Triple-A Jacksonville.
Brock Burke
Brock Burke Nabs hold in rocky outing
Thu, May 21, 2026, 11:27 AM
Burke pitched two-thirds of an inning and picked up the hold after allowing two earned runs on two hits and no walks in a 9-4 win over Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Analysis: Burke entered the game in the bottom of the sixth with Cincinnati holding a three-run lead. The 29-year-old allowed a single to Brandon Marsh, which was followed up by a two-run home run by Edmundo Sosa to cut the Reds lead to 5-4. Despite the rocky appearance, Burke picked up his fifth hold of the season. Before this outing, the left-hander allowed just one earned run over his previous seven relief appearances.
Noelvi Marte
Noelvi Marte Sizzling at Triple-A
Thu, May 21, 2026, 10:30 AM
Marte went 41-for-103 (.398) with six home runs, 22 RBI, eight steals and an 8:16 BB:K over his last 25 games with Triple-A Louisville.
Analysis: Marte has been with Louisville since being optioned by the Reds in mid-April, and he has produced both at the plate and on the basepaths in a big way. It's unclear how much more the Reds want to see before bringing him back to the big club, but he is doing what he can to force the issue.
Blake Dunn
Blake Dunn Hits in four straight
Wed, May 20, 2026, 8:59 PM
Dunn went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored in Wednesday's 9-4 win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Dunn typically starts against left-handers, but he got an opportunity against Phillies' right-hander Aaron Nola. He tripled and scored in the fourth inning and then scored a second run after a sixth-inning double. He's hit safely in four consecutive games, going 7-for-14 with five runs scored during the streak. A couple of Cincinnati outfielders -- TJ Friedl and Will Benson -- are slumping through the first two months, which could lead to regular opportunities for Dunn, who is batting .357 (10-for-28) over 11 games since being recalled from Triple-A Louisville.
Rhett Lowder
Rhett Lowder Activity ramping up
Wed, May 20, 2026, 8:41 PM
Lowder (shoulder) threw a side session Tuesday and will throw again in the bullpen Friday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: If all goes well Friday, Lowder could begin facing hitters a few days after. The right-hander left a start May 7 with shoulder discomfort and was given an injection in the AC joint.
Sal Stewart
Sal Stewart Powers win with huge day
Wed, May 20, 2026, 3:07 PM
Stewart went 4-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Phillies.
Analysis: The rookie slugger continues to break out of a slump that saw him post a .456 OPS across 19 games from April 26 to May 16, racking up nine hits, including two homers, with no strikeouts over his last four contests. The surge has boosted Stewart's slash line on the season back up to .265/.353/.503 with 12 long balls, 10 steals, 31 runs and 34 RBI in 50 contests.
Andrew Abbott
Andrew Abbott Collects fourth win
Wed, May 20, 2026, 3:03 PM
Abbott (4-2) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks over 5.1 innings during a 9-4 victory over the Phillies. He struck out three.
Analysis: The southpaw dealt with traffic on the bases in every inning before finally being lifted after 96 pitches (64 strikes) following a solo shot by Alec Bohm, but the Reds gave Abbott more than enough run support to record his third straight win and fourth consecutive winning decision. He's given up two earned runs or fewer in all five of his outings during that latter stretch, posting a 1.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB over his last 28 innings. Abbott will look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the Mets.
Ke'Bryan Hayes
Ke'Bryan Hayes On bench for series finale
Wed, May 20, 2026, 10:06 AM
Hayes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Hayes appears to have faded into more of a part-time role for the Reds, as he'll be on the bench for the third time in eight games. Sal Stewart will receive the nod at third base in place of Hayes, who is holding down a career-worst .420 OPS over 128 plate appearances on the season.
TJ Friedl
TJ Friedl Idle against right-hander
Wed, May 20, 2026, 10:04 AM
Friedl is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Friedl will hit the bench for the second day in a row, this time sitting against a righty (Aaron Nola) after being held out of the lineup against lefty Jesus Luzardo on Tuesday. Blake Dunn will pick up a start in center field in place of Friedl, who has gone 2-for-28 with a 2:11 BB:K over his last nine games to bring his season-long batting line down to .178/.258/.260.
Tyler Stephenson
Tyler Stephenson Receiving afternoon off
Wed, May 20, 2026, 9:10 AM
Stephenson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Stephenson will get a breather for Wednesday's matinee game after he started behind the plate in each of the Reds' previous three contests. P.J. Higgins will get the nod at catcher in the series finale, forming a battery with starting pitcher Andrew Abbott.
Tyler Stephenson
Tyler Stephenson On base four times in win
Wed, May 20, 2026, 8:00 AM
Stephenson went 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Phillies.
Analysis: The 29-year-old catcher has had a tough start to the season at the plate, but his .183/.291/.292 slash line may be the product of bad luck more than anything else. Stephenson's .235 BABIP is far below his career .318 mark, and he's shaved nearly seven points off his career-worst 33.9 percent strikeout rate from 2025. Tuesday's performance is at least a good sign he's not pressing to try and force a breakout.
Chase Burns
Chase Burns Dazzling May continues
Wed, May 20, 2026, 7:51 AM
Burns (6-1) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits over six innings in a 4-1 win over the Phillies. He struck out nine without walking a batter.
Analysis: The 23-year-old righty dominated a formidable lineup, racking up 18 swinging strikes among his 86 pitches (54 total strikes), and the only blemish on Burns' line came on a Trea Turner solo shot in the third inning. Burns has won three straight starts and delivered quality starts in all four of his May outings, producing a stellar 0.72 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB in 25 innings this month. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week against the Mets.
Matt McLain
Matt McLain Moves up order
Wed, May 20, 2026, 7:10 AM
McLain batted leadoff and went 0-for-5 with an RBI in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Phillies.
Analysis: McLain had spent a good portion of May in the bottom third of the order, but a productive 11-game stretch (1.067 OPS, three HR, 10 RBI) prompted manager Terry Francona to put him atop the order the last two games, once each against a lefty and righty. Although it didn't work out Tuesday, the manager has noodled around with various leadoff options after seemingly moving away from the slumping TJ Friedl. McLain was a staple and thrived in the upper third of the order when he first arrived to the big leagues in 2023.
JJ Bleday
JJ Bleday Ends hitless run
Wed, May 20, 2026, 6:57 AM
Bleday went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Bleday, who plated what proved to be the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, later snapped an 0-for-13 stretch with a seventh-inning double. He'd been one of the Reds' best sources off offense since his arrival in late April before the recent skid. Bleday still maintains a foothold in the starting lineup and is slashing .292/.402/.653 along with six home runs and 20 RBI through 21 games.
Nick Lodolo
Nick Lodolo Lacks control in no-decision
Mon, May 18, 2026, 10:48 PM
Lodolo took a no-decision Monday against the Phillies, allowing three runs on three hits and five walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Lodolo is struggling to find his footing since making his season debut earlier this month, having now given up at least three runs in all of his first three starts. It's also worth noting that the southpaw has hit a batter and been taken yard at least once in each outing so far, so neither his control nor his command have been particularly sharp. Lodolo will try to get himself on track in his next scheduled appearance versus St. Louis this weekend, holding a 7.20 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB over 15 innings.
