Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer Dealing with forearm tendinitis
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 9:25 PM
Scherzer exited Monday's start against the Dodgers early due to right forearm tendinitis, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports. He allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two over two innings and took the loss.
Analysis: Scherzer departed Monday's outing after only 36 pitches, though the team waited until after the game to reveal the reason for his exit. Manager John Schneider stated after the loss that Scherzer had been experiencing the tendinitis for a few days leading up to the start, and the issue didn't get any worse, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. The expectation is that Scherzer will make his next start, which tentatively lines up for Saturday against Minnesota.
Jesus Sanchez
Jesus Sanchez Sitting again Monday
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 4:44 PM
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.
Analysis: The left-handed hitter finds himself on the bench for a third straight game, this time against a southpaw (Justin Wrobleski) after his prior two absences came versus right-handed pitchers. The Blue Jays have leaned on a three-man committee in left field, with Sanchez and Davis Schneider leading the group with four starts apiece and Nathan Lukes making two starts.
Alejandro Kirk
Alejandro Kirk Undergoing thumb surgery Tuesday
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 3:23 PM
Kirk will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair his fractured left thumb, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Kirk landed on the 10-day injured list this past weekend after being diagnosed with a fracture, and a visit with Dr. Thomas Graham on Monday led to a recommendation of surgery. That Kirk needed an operation to fix the fracture could lead to a longer absence, but more will be known regarding a timetable after Tuesday's surgery.
Addison Barger
Addison Barger Trending positively, but IL in play
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 3:20 PM
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Barger (ankles) is "trending in the right direction, but a stint on the injured list has not been ruled out, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Barger exited Sunday's 3-0 loss to the White Sox due to bilateral ankle discomfort. He's absent from Monday's lineup versus the Dodgers, but with southpaw Justin Wrobleski on the mound, it's unlikely the left-handed hitter would have started even if healthy. Tyler Fitzgerald is with the Blue Jays on the taxi squad for now, but he could be recalled to the active roster if Barger is unable to avoid the IL.
Josh Fleming
Josh Fleming Moves up to majors
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 2:35 PM
The Blue Jays selected Fleming's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.
Analysis: Toronto will swap Fleming into the bullpen in place of right-hander Austin Voth, who was designated for assignment after covering 2.2 innings in relief during Sunday's 3-0 loss to the White Sox. Like Voth before him, Fleming is expected to serve as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen and is likely to see most of his usage in lower-leverage spots. Fleming last saw MLB action with the Pirates in 2024, logging a 4.02 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 31.1 innings across 25 appearances (three starts).
Austin Voth
Austin Voth Dropped from 40-man roster
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 2:32 PM
The Blue Jays designated Voth for assignment Monday.
Analysis: Just one day after being called up from Triple-A Buffalo, Voth will surrender his spot on Toronto's 40-man roster. The right-hander will be replaced by lefty Josh Fleming, whose contract was selected from Buffalo in a corresponding move. Fleming will provide the Blue Jays with a fresh arm capable of covering multiple frames out of the bullpen after Voth yielded one earned run on three hits and one walk across 2.2 innings during his Toronto debut in Sunday's 3-0 loss to the White Sox.
Eric Lauer
Eric Lauer Not 100 percent Sunday
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 4:59 PM
Lauer (flu) was far from full strength Sunday and gave up two runs on three hits and three walks in two innings against the White Sox, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Lauer took the loss.
Analysis: Lauer's start was pushed back one day due to the illness, but it sounds like it still negatively affected his performance. Miguel Vargas plated two runs with a triple in the first inning, and Lauer was fortunate to strand two-thirds of his baserunners in this one. He will presumably be back to full strength for this weekend's matchup at home against the Twins.
Addison Barger
Addison Barger Injury downplayed by manager
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 4:18 PM
Manager John Schneider said Sunday he hopes Barger (ankles) is out for "just a day or two, or maybe not even a day," Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: He departed Sunday's game with bilateral ankle discomfort, with Schneider confirming Barger hurt both ankles on a play at first base early in Sunday's game. Schneider's comments suggest there's a chance Barger will return early this week. He should be considered day-to-day in the meantime.
Addison Barger
Addison Barger Departs with ankle issues
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 3:44 PM
Barger was removed from Sunday's game against the White Sox due to bilateral ankle discomfort, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Barger went 0-for-3 before being replaced by Jesus Sanchez in right field for the bottom of the sixth inning. The severity of the injury is unclear, so Barger should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.
Brendon Little
Brendon Little Moved to minors
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 11:20 AM
Toronto optioned Little to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Analysis: Little has had a disastrous start to the campaign, allowing 10 earned runs and giving up three homers while posting a 6:3 K:BB over 3.2 innings across five appearances. He was a big piece of the team's bullpen while working in a high-leverage role last season, so Little will presumably be given another chance with the big-league club if he's able to work out his issues with Buffalo. The Blue Jays selected the contracts of two relievers -- Austin Voth and Joe Mantiply -- among a series of transactions Sunday.
Lazaro Estrada
Lazaro Estrada Dispatched to minors
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 11:09 AM
Toronto optioned Estrada to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Analysis: Estrada was excellent in a bulk-relief outing Saturday, holding the White Sox hitless over four innings while striking out three batters and walking two. However, he threw 66 pitches and would presumably be sidelined for several days as a result, so the Blue Jays opted to shuffle him down to Buffalo in order to beef up the team's bullpen. Given Estrada's performance Saturday, it seems very likely he'll be back with the major-league club relatively soon.
Austin Voth
Austin Voth Getting chance with Blue Jays
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 11:02 AM
Toronto selected Voth's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Analysis: After Voth was released by the White Sox on March 20, the Blue Jays scooped him up on a minor-league contract. In one start with Buffalo this season, the right-hander tossed three innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits and no walks while striking out two batters. Voth has worked both as a starter and a reliever during his time in the majors, but given that Toronto stated that he'd be available to pitch Sunday, it appears he's slated for a bullpen role.
Joe Mantiply
Joe Mantiply Summoned to Toronto
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 10:57 AM
The Blue Jays selected Mantiply's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Analysis: Mantiply signed a minor-league contract with Toronto in early March, but he wasn't able to crack the Opening Day roster. The veteran reliever thus began the campaign with Buffalo, pitching in two games and allowing one run while posting a 3:0 K:BB over 3.2 innings. Mantiply should occupy a low-leverage spot in the Blue Jays' bullpen. The team was able to clear room for him on the 40-man roster by transferring Cody Ponce (knee) and Anthony Santander (shoulder) to the 60-day IL.
Anthony Santander
Anthony Santander Transferred to 60-day IL
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 10:52 AM
Toronto moved Santander (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Sunday.
Analysis: This was an expected move at some point after Santander underwent shoulder surgery in February. The veteran outfielder could return later in the season, though he's almost certain to be out at least through the All-Star break. The Blue Jays opened up a spot on their 40-man roster, which will likely to used to bolster an injury-depleted pitching staff.
Cody Ponce
Cody Ponce Moved to 60-day IL
Sun, Apr 5, 2026, 10:48 AM
The Blue Jays transferred Ponce (knee) to the 60-day injured list Sunday.
Analysis: Ponce injured his knee last Monday versus Colorado and is visiting Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday to determine whether he needs surgery to repair a sprained right ACL. The right-hander is going to miss significant time and would almost certainly be out until next season if surgery is needed. By placing Ponce on the 60-day IL, Toronto opened up a spot on its 40-man roster.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Finally launches first homer
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 5:21 PM
Guerrero went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the White Sox.
Analysis: After just missing a homer in the top of the fourth inning on a ball that Austin Hays caught with his back up against the left-field wall, Guerrero left no doubt during his next at-bat in the top of the sixth as he crushed an Anthony Kay slider 437 feet over Hays' head. It was the 27-year-old slugger's first long ball of the year, and through eight games Guerrero's batting .286 (8-for-28) with three runs, four RBI and a 6:3 BB:K.
Lazaro Estrada
Lazaro Estrada Sharp in bulk relief duties
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 5:17 PM
Estrada didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the White Sox, walking two and striking out three over four scoreless, no-hit innings of relief.
Analysis: Entering the game to begin the second inning after opener Mason Fluharty has spotted Chicago an early 1-0 lead, Estrada fired 44 of 66 pitches for strikes in a very effective 2026 debut. The right-hander was briefly the pitcher of record when the Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth, but the White Sox immediately struck back in the bottom of the frame. Estrada's performance may earn him another turn through the rotation, either as a traditional starter or a bulk reliever, but with off days coming Thursday and Monday, Toronto may elect to simply skip their fifth starter spot in the short term.
Tyler Fitzgerald
Tyler Fitzgerald Traded to Jays
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 2:21 PM
The Blue Jays acquired Fitzgerald from the Giants on Saturday in exchange for cash and optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo.
Analysis: Fitzgerald was DFA'd by the Giants in late March, but moving to Toronto will allow him to remain on a 40-man roster. Regression hit the 28-year-old hard last season, as he posted a .605 OPS across 243 plate appearances after finishing 2024 with an .831 OPS. He's already off to an 0-for-12 start in Triple-A this year, but his defensive versatility will help keep him in consideration for a return to the majors.
Brandon Valenzuela
Brandon Valenzuela Officially promoted
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 10:25 AM
The Blue Jays recalled Valenzuela from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: The 25-year-old will join the big club for the first time in his career to provide depth at catcher while Alejandro Kirk (thumb) is on the injured list. Valenzuela has slashed .206/.295/.374 with four homers, 16 RBI and 11 runs scored across 122 plate appearances in Triple-A since joining the Blue Jays organization at last year's trade deadline.
Alejandro Kirk
Alejandro Kirk Diagnosed with fracture
Sat, Apr 4, 2026, 10:09 AM
The Blue Jays placed Kirk on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left thumb fracture, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Kirk took a foul tip off his left thumb while catching in the 10th inning of Friday's contest. He doesn't have a return timeline in place yet, per Mae, but some clarity should come after he visits a doctor Monday to determine whether surgery is required. In the meantime, Tyler Heineman will take over as Toronto's starting catcher, and Brandon Valenzuela will come up from Triple-A Buffalo to provide depth.
