Casey Schmitt
Casey Schmitt Scratched with back tightness
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 7:42 PM
Schmitt was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets due to back tightness, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: The Giants will give Schmitt a day off to give his back a chance to heal, but it doesn't seem like he's trending toward a stint on the injured list at the moment. Jerar Encarnacion will enter the starting nine as San Francisco's first baseman and bat ninth.
Jose Butto
Jose Butto Diagnosed with blood clot
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 6:11 PM
Butto was diagnosed with a blood clot in his right arm and will undergo a procedure Friday to remove it, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Butto exited his appearance Wednesday alongside a trainer before landing on the injured list Thursday with right forearm fatigue. The Giants haven't announced a timeline for the 28-year-old's return, but he's now likely to spend far more time on the injured list than the 15-day minimum.
Luis Arraez
Luis Arraez Triples in win
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 12:06 PM
Arraez went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI triple in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Mets.
Analysis: Arraez drove in San Francisco's first run with an RBI triple in the first inning before coming around to score. The 28-year-old infielder added a single and another run in the third, marking his second straight multi-hit performance and third on the campaign. Arraez has turned in a strong start to the season, slashing .321/.333/.429 with three runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases across 30 plate appearances in seven games.
Ryan Walker
Ryan Walker Appears in sixth inning Thursday
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 12:04 PM
Walker pitched the sixth inning and retired the only two batters he faced in Thursday's win over the Mets.
Analysis: Walker entered in the sixth with one out, no one on base and the Giants sporting a four-run lead. According to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, Giants manager Tony Vitello said the staff discussed before the game using Walker directly after starting pitcher Robbie Ray because they offer essentially opposite looks for hitters. Blade Tidwell followed Walker after the Giants tacked on another run and wound up getting a three-inning save. Walker still looks like the favorite for saves in the San Francisco bullpen, but his usage Thursday indicates Vitello won't always hold Walker back for the ninth inning. If the Giants' closer situation turns into more of a committee, Keaton Winn and others could get into the mix.
Casey Schmitt
Casey Schmitt Logs three hits in win
Fri, Apr 3, 2026, 12:03 PM
Schmitt went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Mets.
Analysis: Schmitt singled in the second inning, drew a walk in the third, hit an RBI single in the fifth and added another base hit in the seventh as the Giants earned a comfortable win. The 27-year-old infielder continues to start at first base in place of Rafael Devers, who has yet to play the field due to lingering hamstring tightness. Schmitt went hitless in San Francisco's opening series against the Yankees but recorded his second multi-hit performance of the season Thursday. He's slashing .273/.360/.318 with two RBI, a double and a stolen base across 25 plate appearances in seven games.
Patrick Bailey
Patrick Bailey On bench Thursday
Thu, Apr 2, 2026, 6:00 PM
Bailey isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Bailey will take a seat Thursday after going just 2-for-18 (.111) with six strikeouts through his first six games of the year. Daniel Susac will catch instead for left-handed starter Robbie Ray and bat eighth.
Blade Tidwell
Blade Tidwell Recalled from Sacramento
Thu, Apr 2, 2026, 5:19 PM
The Giants recalled Tidwell from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: After being sent down to Triple-A to begin the regular season, Tidwell will quickly receive a call-up to the majors to replace the injured Jose Butto (forearm). Tidwell, 24, gave up 15 earned runs over 15 innings with the Mets last year, but he kicked off the 2026 campaign by striking out three batters over 2.2 scoreless innings with Sacramento.
Jose Butto
Jose Butto Lands on IL
Thu, Apr 2, 2026, 5:14 PM
The Giants placed Butto on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right forearm fatigue, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Butto made an early exit from his appearance against the Padres on Wednesday due to a forearm issue, and he'll now spend at least the next couple of weeks on the injured list getting his forearm back to full strength. Blade Tidwell will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to take Butto's place in the bullpen.
Eric Haase
Eric Haase Returns to Giants
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 8:28 PM
Haase signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Wednesday.
Analysis: Haase parted ways with the Giants after posting a .911 OPS over 18 games in the Cactus League, but he'll now return to the organization and provide depth at Triple-A Sacramento. He'd likely be called up to work as a backup in San Francisco if Patrick Bailey or Daniel Susac had to miss time.
Luis Arraez
Luis Arraez Three hits, steal in loss
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 6:30 PM
Arraez went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Padres.
Analysis: Arraez isn't a big contributor in the counting stats, but he's already logged two steals over six games this season. He had a career-best 11 thefts in 154 regular-season contests with the Padres last year. Speed isn't typically something that increases with age, so don't expect the 28-year-old to make a huge impact in that area. He's now batting .304 (7-for-23) with a walk, one RBI and one run scored, and his double Wednesday was his first extra-base hit of the year.
Adrian Houser
Adrian Houser Takes loss in season debut
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 6:19 PM
Houser (0-1) allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.1 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Padres.
Analysis: The Giants' defense didn't do Houser any favors, with errors in the first and fifth innings lead to the first two runs on his line. This was the right-hander's Giants debut, and he threw 58 of 86 pitches for strikes in a decent performance. He signed in San Francisco for two years and $22 million after splitting last season between the Rays and the White Sox, posting a 3.31 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 92:38 K:BB across 125 innings over 21 starts in a bounce-back season. He has a good park, but the Giants' offense hasn't been all that encouraging with just 13 runs scored over six games this season. Houser is tentatively lined up to make his next start at home versus the Phillies next week, which could set him up for a two-start week.
Jose Butto
Jose Butto Dealing with arm tightness
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 6:16 PM
Butto was removed during the eighth inning of the Giants' 7-1 loss to the Padres on Wednesday due to right arm tightness, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Butto was brought in for the eighth to keep the Giants' deficit at two runs, but he recorded just one out while allowing four runs on three hits and four walks, tossing 28 pitches (eight strikes) before being pulled. The Giants should have an update over the next couple of days once Butto undergoes further tests on his arm.
Jung Hoo Lee
Jung Hoo Lee Multi-hit effort in win
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 12:25 PM
Lee went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Padres.
Analysis: Lee lined a two-RBI double to right field in the first inning and added another double in the fifth. He also drove in San Francisco's final run in the ninth with a single to left field. The 27-year-old outfielder had logged just one hit -- a double -- entering Tuesday's contest. He's now slashing .222/.300/.389 with three RBI, two runs scored and a 2:3 BB:K across 20 plate appearances in five games.
Matt Chapman
Matt Chapman Swats first homer of season
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 12:21 PM
Chapman went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Padres.
Analysis: Chapman singled in the first inning before coming around to score San Francisco's third and final run of the frame. The veteran third baseman followed that up with a leadoff homer to left field in the third, marking his first long ball of the season. He's recorded at least one hit in three straight outings and is now slashing .222/.333/.389 with three runs scored, two RBI and a 3:3 BB:K across 21 plate appearances in five games.
Willy Adames
Willy Adames Busts slump with big game Tuesday
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 2:34 AM
Adames went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, two total runs and two total RBI in a 9-3 win against the Padres on Tuesday.
Analysis: Adames had been very quiet coming into Tuesday, going 2-for-15 with six strikeouts and no RBI over his first four games. The veteran shortstop wasted no time erasing the poor start from memory, going deep to left field to lead off the contest. Adames added an infield single in the second inning, an RBI single in the sixth and a double in the eighth to round out his night. He bumped his season OPS from .266 to .800 with the performance.
Logan Webb
Logan Webb Rebounds in second start
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 2:20 AM
Webb (1-1) earned the win over San Diego on Tuesday, tossing six innings during which he allowed three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five batters.
Analysis: After Webb gave up seven runs (six earned) over five innings in an Opening Day loss to the Yankees, Tuesday's quality start was much more in line with what Giants fans (and fantasy managers) have come to expect from the team's ace. Still, it was far from a flawless outing, as the right-hander issued four free passes -- as many as he yielded in any game last season. Webb handed out just one walk in his ugly first start, so his mild wildness against the Padres probably isn't cause for concern, especially given the overall outcome. He's tentatively slated to next take the mound at home against the Mets.
Keaton Winn
Keaton Winn Fans three in hold
Tue, Mar 31, 2026, 12:56 PM
Winn earned a hold and struck out three in a scoreless inning during Monday's 3-2 win over the Padres.
Analysis: Winn worked the eighth inning in a setup role and struck out the side while throwing nine of his 13 pitches for strikes. The right-hander relied heavily on his splitter, throwing it 10 times and generating five whiffs. The 28-year-old has yet to allow a run through three outings, giving up one walk while striking out six in three innings.
Harrison Bader
Harrison Bader Goes yard in win
Tue, Mar 31, 2026, 12:39 PM
Bader went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 3-2 win over the Padres.
Analysis: Bader launched a 408-foot shot to left-center field in the third inning, accounting for San Francisco's first home run of the season. The veteran outfielder was 1-for-10 with four strikeouts entering Monday's contest, and he's now slashing .143/.143/.357 across 14 plate appearances. He has recorded a hit in back-to-back games and will look to put a rough opening series behind him.
Joel Peguero
Joel Peguero Tosses BP session
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 6:35 PM
Peguero (hamstring) threw a 20-pitch live batting practice session Monday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Peguero was moved to the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a Grade 2 hamstring strain, so it's a positive sign that he's already been cleared to resume mound work. He'll presumably be re-evaluated Tuesday morning to ensure he didn't suffer any kind of setback, at which point the next step in his rehab could be established. A timetable for Peguero's return has yet to be disclosed by the club.
Sam Hentges
Sam Hentges Tosses live BP on Monday
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 6:35 PM
Hentges (knee/shoulder) threw 20 pitches during his live batting practice in Arizona on Monday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Hentges continues to progress in his recovery from surgeries on his left shoulder and right knee. He opened the season on the 15-day injured list and will need to embark on a rehab assignment before being cleared for major-league action. The last time Hentges pitched in the majors was in 2024 with the Guardians, when he appeared in 25 regular-season games and posted a 3.04 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, nine holds and a 27:5 K:BB across 23.2 innings.
