Mize (5-7) notched the win against the Guardians on Sunday, allowing no runs on three hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Mize showed no ill effects of Sunday's game being delayed by over three hours due to rain, picking up his first win as a member of the Padres. The right-hander has been very consistent on the mound for the most part during his time for Detroit and San Diego, giving up two runs or fewer in 14 of his 19 outings on the year. Mize is set to take a career-best 3.18 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 95:25 K:BB over 102 innings into a favorable home matchup against the Twins. |

Musgrove allowed five earned runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five across 4.2 innings Friday in his rehab start with Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: Though he was knocked around in the third start of his rehab assignment, Musgrove built up to 70 pitches and 95.2 mph with his fastball. According to MLB.com, Padres manager Craig Stammen said Musgrove was "very positive" about how he felt during Friday's outing, but a decision has yet to be made regarding whether he'll require another rehab start or return from the 60-day injured list to make his first big-league appearance since Sept. 26, 2024. If Musgrove ends up entering the rotation during the Padres' upcoming weekend series with the Twins, he would likely be operating with a limited pitch count. |

Analysis: Campusano came up with two big hits Friday -- a two-run double in the fifth inning to give San Diego its first lead and an RBI double in the seventh to provide an insurance run. The 27-year-old logged his fifth multi-hit effort over his past 11 contests, a span during which he's slashing a sizzling .410/.465/.590 with one homer, four doubles and 10 RBI. Campusano was replaced behind the plate by Freddy Fermin in the ninth inning, as Fermin remains the far superior defensive catcher. However, Campusano's bat has been so potent that he's started at catcher more often than Fermin of late. |

Analysis: Tatis' lone hit was a 404-foot solo homer to left field in fifth inning. The star outfielder appears to have discovered his power stroke this month -- he's gone deep five times across nine games since Aug. 5 after posting just eight long balls through his first 112 contests this season. Tatis has lifted his OPS over 30 points to .778 with the power surge, and he's now at 13 total long balls to go along with 28 stolen bases. |

Analysis: King fell into an early hole, allowing three runs across the first three innings, including solo homers to Nathaniel Lowe and Brayan Rocchio. San Diego's offense eventually erased the deficit, and King settled down enough to complete six frames and earn his second consecutive win. The right-hander allowed only one additional run over his final three innings, lowering the damage despite giving up a season-high eight hits. King lowered his ERA to 3.41 with this outing and is scheduled to make his next start on the road against the Mets. |

The Padres signed Honeywell to a minor-league contract Friday, Jordan Shusterman of Yahoo Sports reports.
Analysis: Honeywell signed a minor-league deal with the Giants back in February but never made an appearance in the organization. In fact, the 30-year-old has not pitched in an official game since the 2024 World Series with the Dodgers. Honeywell will likely work in a relief role at Triple-A El Paso. |

Analysis: Bogaerts plated the Padres' first run with a solo shot to left field in the third inning. The long ball snapped a 25-game stretch without a homer for the veteran shortstop, who batted a meager .205 with only four RBI during the power drought. Bogaerts has now belted double-digit home runs in 11 straight seasons, though he hasn't reached 20 long balls since the 2021 campaign, when he was still with Boston. |

Analysis: Ray's now given up six runs in nine innings through his first two starts with San Diego after posting a 1.09 ERA over his final eight outings (49.1 innings) with the Giants before the trade deadline. Overall, Ray is 10-7 on the season with a 3.28 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 113:65 K:BB across 131.2 innings. He'll look to turn things around his next time out, tentatively slated to come next week on the road against the Mets. |

The Padres reinstated Morgan (knee) from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: San Diego didn't have room in its bullpen for Morgan and will stash him at Triple-A now that he's healthy again after he been on the shelf for about six weeks due to left knee inflammation. Morgan had provided a 4.50 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB in 22 innings over 18 appearances for San Diego prior to landing on the IL. |

Analysis: Tatis' loudest contribution was a solo blast to right field in the fourth inning. It was his fourth homer over his past seven contests, and the veteran slugger appears to finally be getting his power stroke going. Tatis didn't homer at all until his 56th contest of the campaign and had gone 12 straight games without a long ball prior to the aforementioned current seven-game power surge. His muscle has helped San Diego bolt into playoff position -- the Padres have won 14 of their past 18 contests and are now tied for the final wild-card spot in the National League. |

Merrill went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Monday in a 3-2 win against the Brewers.
Analysis: Merrill came up big in the seventh inning, belting a two-run shot to center field to turn a one-run deficit into a one-run lead. It was the third straight game with a long ball for the center fielder, and the hit extended his on-base streak to 10 games spanning the entirety of August. Merrill is slashing .359/.390/.744 during that stretch with four homers, nine runs, 13 RBI and two stolen bases. His .712 season OPS remains mildly disappointing, but he's at a much more impressive 1.038 OPS across 24 contests since the All-Star break. |

Analysis: Miller was handed the ball in the top of the ninth inning with San Diego nursing a one-run lead. He retired the first two batters he faced before issuing a walk to William Contreras. Miller got out of the frame when pinch runner Brandon Lockridge was thrown out trying to steal second base. The All-Star closer posted his 30th save of the campaign, tied for second most in the majors behind Bryan Baker (34). It's the first time in Miller's career that he's reached the 30-save mark. |

Mize tossed six innings in a no-decision against Milwaukee on Monday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters.
Analysis: Mize was hammered by Arizona for eight runs over 3.1 innings in his San Diego debut last Wednesday, but he was much better in his second start with his new club. The right-hander gave up a Christian Yelich two-run homer in the second inning, but that was the only time the Brewers were able to score against him. Mize induced just six swinging strikes, but he still managed a respectable six punchouts and recorded his ninth quality start of the campaign. He's being asked to help stabilize a shaky Padres rotation and is lined up to make his next start on the road against the Guardians. |

Pivetta (forearm) threw off a mound Monday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: It's not clear as to how many pitches Pivetta threw during Monday's throwing session, but it's a good sign that he was able to get back on the mound after exiting his last rehab appearance Tuesday due to tightness in his right elbow. He'll presumably be re-evaluated over the course of the next few days to determine the next step in his rehab. |
