Framber Valdez
Framber Valdez Hit hard in loss
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 11:10 PM
Valdez (1-1) allowed eight runs on 10 hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out two over five-plus innings to take the loss versus the Twins on Wednesday.
Analysis: Valdez gave up six runs in the first inning, and the Tigers weren't able to recover from that. He had posted quality starts in his first two outings this season, but he fell far short of that threshold Wednesday. Valdez now has a 4.76 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB through 17 innings over three starts. The veteran southpaw will want to bounce back in his next outing -- he allowed at least four runs in eight of his last 10 regular-season starts in 2025, so this poor outing could snowball. He is tentatively lined up for a home start versus Royals early next week.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Scores twice, drives in two
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 10:17 PM
Torres went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Twins.
Analysis: Torres tallied his second two-hit effort of the season as he put together a strong fantasy performance. The veteran infielder is only batting .227, but he has a strong .393 on-base percentage due to his good eye at the plate. Torres has a 21.4 percent walk rate so far this year, which would easily represent a new career high. His ability to get on base gives him plenty of run-scoring potential moving forward.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Tallies three hits in loss
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 10:11 PM
Dingler went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Twins.
Analysis: Dingler snapped an 0-for-9 slump across his last three games with his first three-hit effort of the young season. The Detroit catcher is now batting .273 overall, which is in line with the .278 average he posted during the regular season last year. Dingler has no real threat to his playing time behind the plate, and he should remain a stable fantasy asset.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Heading to bench Wednesday
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 4:45 PM
Torkelson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: Torkelson will hit the bench for just the second time in the Tigers' first 12 games of 2026. Colt Keith will cover first base in place of Torkelson, who is batting .206 with zero home runs, four runs and three RBI over 42 plate appearances on the season.
Parker Meadows
Parker Meadows Hitting bench Wednesday
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 4:43 PM
Meadows is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: Matt Vierling will receive the starting nod in center field while Meadows sits for just the second time in the Tigers' first 12 games. With five hits over his previous four starts, Meadows has raised his season average from .167 up to .267.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Checking back into starting nine
Wed, Apr 8, 2026, 4:37 PM
Carpenter (illness) will start in right field and bat cleanup in Wednesday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: Though Carpenter remained out of the starting nine for a second straight day during Tuesday's 4-2 loss while he battled a stomach illness, he was able to come off the bench for a pinch-hitting appearance. Carpenter has now been deemed healthy enough to play a full nine-inning game, and the Tigers' decision to use him in the outfield rather than at designated hitter offers further evidence that he's close to 100 percent.
Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal Falls apart in fifth frame
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 10:10 PM
Skubal (1-2) took the loss against the Twins on Tuesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven across 4.2 innings.
Analysis: Skubal opened things up by striking out four of the first seven batters he faced. He kept the Twins off the board through four frames, but things fell apart for the reigning AL Cy Young winner in the fifth, when he yielded four runs on three hits and two walks before being pulled. Skubal gave up just one earned run through his first two starts of the season, so Tuesday's outing can be considered a blip on the radar for the 29-year-old southpaw. He still generated 19 whiffs while recording 65 strikes on 95 pitches (68.4 percent). Skubal's next start is tentatively slated for this weekend at home against the Marlins.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Collects two more hits Tuesday
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 9:43 PM
McGonigle went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Twins.
Analysis: McGonigle now has at least one hit in eight of his 11 games so far, and he's batting .302 overall with an .853 OPS. The rookie infielder has hit the ground running, and it looks like he's earned a prominent spot in Detroit's lineup moving forward. McGonigle displayed similar offensive skills in the minors the past few years, and he's emerging as a fantasy weapon at just 21 years old.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Shows some life Tuesday
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 9:39 PM
Torkelson went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Twins.
Analysis: While Torkelson didn't deliver his first home run of the season yet Tuesday, he did muster his first multi-hit effort. The first baseman is batting just .206 with a .622 OPS, and he's striking out 31 percent of the time. Torkelson sported a .789 OPS and blasted 31 home runs during the regular season last year, so the power potential is there and his bat could get going at any point, though strikeouts remain a prominent part of his game.
Trey Sweeney
Trey Sweeney Shoulder issue persists
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 5:21 PM
Sweeney felt discomfort in his right shoulder again Tuesday and is undergoing re-evaluation, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Sweeney resides on the 10-day injured list after starting the season there due to suffering a right shoulder strain at the start of camp. While it seems he was making progress, it appears a setback may have occurred with the discomfort reappearing.
Bailey Horn
Bailey Horn Beginning rehab assignment
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 5:19 PM
Horn (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Single-A Lakeland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Horn missed the entirety of spring training while working his way back from an elbow procedure he underwent in the offseason, so he'll likely require an extended stay in the minors before coming off the injured list. Once healthy, the 28-year-old may take a middle-relief role with the big club after posting a 1.59 ERA over 11.1 frames with the Tigers last season.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Remaining on bench Tuesday
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 4:49 PM
Carpenter (illness) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: The 29-year-old was held out of the lineup Monday due to a stomach bug and will sit Tuesday for a second consecutive game. Carpenter should continue to be considered day-to-day as he recovers from the ailment.
Hao-Yu Lee
Hao-Yu Lee Back from IL
Tue, Apr 7, 2026, 11:02 AM
Triple-A Toledo reinstated Lee (oblique) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The 23-year-old opened the season on the injured list due to an oblique strain he suffered in early March, but he's ready to join Toledo after a three-game rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland. Lee played in 126 games at Triple-A last year and had a .248/.345/.414 slash line with 14 homers and 22 stolen bases.
Casey Mize
Casey Mize Surrenders five runs in loss
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 11:24 PM
Mize (0-1) took the loss Monday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.1 innings against Minnesota. He struck out four.
Analysis: Mize didn't have his best stuff Monday, as a lengthy third inning and a two-run homer from Luke Keaschall in the fourth frame did damage. It marked a step back for the right-hander after a strong first start against Arizona, in which he fired six innings of one-run ball with nine punchouts. Looking ahead, Mize lines up to face Miami on Saturday in his next outing.
Drew Anderson
Drew Anderson Pitches better Monday
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 9:58 PM
Anderson allowed one run on two hits across three innings of relief in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Twins. He walked two and struck out four.
Analysis: Anderson relieved Detroit starter Casey Mize, who was mostly ineffective across 4.1 innings. The former kept Detroit in the game in his most effective outing so far this season, though he still didn't keep the opposition off the scoreboard. Anderson has been scored on in all four of his appearances, and he's sitting with a 7.11 ERA overall, so he still leaves a lot to be desired from a fantasy perspective. The righty should stick in a long-relief role for the Tigers.
Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres Displays impressive eye Monday
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 9:52 PM
Torres went 0-for-2 with three walks and a run scored in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Twins.
Analysis: Torres managed to have a solid fantasy performance without getting a hit as he displayed his strong eye at the plate. The veteran infielder posted a 13.8 percent walk rate in 2025, which was nearly four points higher than the year before, and he's hovering around 28 percent so far this season. If Torres can keep getting on base at a good clip, he should be able to rack up plenty of runs batting ahead of the likes of Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson.
Kevin McGonigle
Kevin McGonigle Tallies first stolen base
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 9:45 PM
McGonigle went 1-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Twins.
Analysis: McGonigle has had a nice start to his MLB career, as he's now batting .289 with an .833 OPS across his first 10 games. His stolen base Monday was his first at the MLB level, and he's tacked on five RBI and six runs scored. McGonigle is still looking for his first MLB home run, but it's otherwise been a great rookie campaign so far, and he should continue to see regular playing time moving forward. While there might be some bumps along the way, the 21-year-old looks ready to fully break out as a fantasy star.
Kerry Carpenter
Kerry Carpenter Out with stomach bug
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 5:08 PM
Carpenter is not in the lineup Monday versus the Twins due to a stomach bug, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Carpenter popped his second home run of the season in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals, but he'll get some rest a day later as he battles a stomach illness. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. Matt Vierling and Zach McKinstry are in the corner outfield spots for the Tigers on Monday while Riley Greene gets a start at designated hitter.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez On bench again Monday
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 5:05 PM
Baez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: Baez will hit the bench for the fourth time in eight games, with all of his absences coming against right-handed pitching. He appears to have fallen into an indirect timeshare with Zack McKinstry, who has been seeing time in right field and second base while Kevin McGonigle covers shortstop when Baez is out of the lineup. Baez is holding down a lowly .200/.227/.200 slash line over 22 plate appearances to begin the season, and he could see his playing time dwindle further if he's unable to stage a dramatic turnaround.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Receiving rest Monday
Mon, Apr 6, 2026, 5:01 PM
Dingler is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.
Analysis: Dingler will receive a routine day off Monday after starting behind the dish in each of the Tigers' last four games. Jake Rogers will handle catching duties in the series opener in Minnesota.
