Shea Langeliers
Shea Langeliers Slugs fifth homer
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 3:03 PM
Langeliers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to Atlanta.
Analysis: The 28-year-old slugger broke up Chris Sale's early bid for a perfect game by lifting a fastball into the left-field bullpen at Truist Park with two outs in the fourth inning. It was Langeliers' fifth homer in six games, a power surge that has fueled a stunning .375/.400/1.000 slash line with eight RBI through the first week of the season.
Luis Severino
Luis Severino Fans seven in Wednesday's loss
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 3:00 PM
Severino (0-1) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up four runs on four hits and five walks over 3.1 innings as the A's fell 5-1 to Atlanta. He struck out seven.
Analysis: The right-hander managed only 49 strikes among his 91 pitches, but Severino salvaged some value for his fantasy GMs with the strikeouts. Through his first 8.1 innings to begin the year, Severino has a 6.48 ERA and 10:8 K:BB, a worrisome start for a pitcher who posted a BB/9 below 3.0 in each of the last two seasons. He'll try to tighten up his control in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in his old stomping grounds at Yankee Stadium.
Ben Bowden
Ben Bowden Makes season debut at Triple-A
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 9:47 AM
Bowden (lat) struck out a batter and allowed one earned run on three hits over an inning of relief Monday in Triple-A Las Vegas' 13-8 loss to Oklahoma City.
Analysis: After closing out the 2025 season on the Athletics' injured list while recovering from a left lat strain, Bowden re-signed with the franchise on a minor-league deal over the winter but didn't end up appearing in any games during the Cactus League. However, the veteran southpaw was evidently healthy enough to avoid a stint on Las Vegas' injured list to begin the season. He should serve as a key reliever for the Triple-A club while he awaits a potential call-up to the big-league bullpen.
Darell Hernaiz
Darell Hernaiz Drawing second start of season
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 9:44 AM
Hernaiz will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis: Hernaiz will draw his second start of the season, both of which have come against left-handed pitchers. The 24-year-old appears poised to serve as an occasional platoon partner at second base with the left-handed-hitting Jeff McNeil, who will hit the bench for a second straight matchup versus a southpaw (Chris Sale).
Jeff McNeil
Jeff McNeil Exits lineup versus lefty
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 8:40 AM
McNeil is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting McNeil looks to be in a straightforward platoon at second base, as he's now been absent from the lineup each of the three times the Athletics have gone up against a southpaw. Darrell Hernaiz is covering second base and batting eighth Wednesday.
Lawrence Butler
Lawrence Butler Sitting against left-hander
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 8:38 AM
Butler is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Atlanta.
Analysis: Atlanta is sending left-hander Chris Sale to the mound, and this marks the second time in three games versus southpaws this season that the lefty-swinging Butler is out of the lineup. Brent Rooker is getting a start in right field and Shea Langeliers will be the designated hitter for the Athletics.
Nick Kurtz
Nick Kurtz First day off Wednesday
Wed, Apr 1, 2026, 8:34 AM
Kurtz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta.
Analysis: Kurtz will receive his first day off of the season after going 1-for-17 with 11 strikeouts through five games. Andy Ibanez will get a start at first base and bat second as the Athletics take on lefty ace Chris Sale at Truist Park.
Andy Ibanez
Andy Ibanez Collects two RBI vs. Atlanta
Tue, Mar 31, 2026, 9:17 PM
Ibanez went 2-for-4 with two RBI singles and a run scored during Tuesday's 5-2 win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Ibanez put the Athletics on the board with an RBI single in the second inning before doing so again in the fourth. He got the start at second base for the first time this season, and his defensive versatility and success at the plate against southpaws should afford him regular playing time this season.
Jacob Wilson
Jacob Wilson Drives in a pair of runs
Tue, Mar 31, 2026, 9:09 PM
Wilson went 2-for-4 with a two-run double during Tuesday's 5-2 win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Wilson's ground rule double in the second inning brought Andy Ibanez and Lawrence Butler home to give the Athletics a 3-1 lead. Wilson has logged two hits in two of his last three outings, though he's gone 0-for-13 with four strikeouts in his other three appearances of the regular season. He's looking to build off a strong 2025 campaign in which he slashed .311/.355/.444 with five steals (on seven attempts), 13 home runs and 63 RBI across 523 plate appearances.
Shea Langeliers
Shea Langeliers Goes long again
Tue, Mar 31, 2026, 9:04 PM
Langeliers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Atlanta on Tuesday.
Analysis: Langeliers struck out in each of his first two plate appearances Tuesday, but he gave the Athletics a four-run lead after belting a solo home run off Joel Payamps in the fifth inning. Langeliers is 2-for-12 with six strikeouts over his last three outings, but the 28-year-old catcher is up to four home runs through five regular-season games.
Mark Leiter Jr.
Mark Leiter Jr. Collects first save of 2026
Tue, Mar 31, 2026, 8:59 PM
Leiter earned the save in Monday's 5-2 win over Atlanta, allowing two hits while striking out one batter in one inning. He did not issue a walk.
Analysis: Leiter was brought out for the ninth inning to protect the Athletics' three-run lead. He yielded hits to two of the first three batters he faced but bounced back to strike out Ronald Acuna before getting Drake Baldwin to pop out to second. Leiter is competing against Scott Barlow and Hogan Harris for the Athletics' closer job, but Leiter has earned the first save of the season for the organization, with Barlow blowing his opportunity against the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Aaron Civale
Aaron Civale Earns win against Atlanta
Tue, Mar 31, 2026, 8:54 PM
Civale (1-0) picked up the win against Atlanta on Tuesday. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three across five innings.
Analysis: Civale put the Athletics on the back foot after yielding a solo home run Drake Baldwin in the first inning. The former kept Atlanta off the board until a Ronald Acuna sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Civale came away with the victory thanks to the A's bats. The 30-year-old right-hander has played for five different organizations over the past two seasons but is looking to stick around with the Athletics after a strong spring training and a win to start the regular season. Civale is slated to start next week on the road against the Yankees.
Jacob Lopez
Jacob Lopez Allows five hits and walks five
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 10:54 PM
Lopez (0-1) allowed three runs on five hits and five walks across four innings in Monday's 4-0 loss to the Athletics. He didn't record a strikeout.
Analysis: Lopez generated just four whiffs on 91 pitches, and his fastball velocity was down 1.4 mph from his 2025 average of 90.8 mph. The 28-year-old started 17 games for the Athletics last season and turned in a respectable 4.08 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 113:37 K:BB across 92.2 innings. His stuff will need to improve moving forward if he's going to build on that in 2026. Lopez's next start is scheduled for Sunday at home against the Astros.
Denzel Clarke
Denzel Clarke Out of lineup Monday
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 2:43 PM
Clarke is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis: Clarke started all three of the Athletics' games against the Blue Jays in the opening series but went 1-for-9 at the plate with six strikeouts. He'll take a seat Monday, and Lawrence Butler will slide over to center field, while Carlos Cortes bats ninth and plays right field.
Lawrence Butler
Lawrence Butler Back in lineup Monday
Mon, Mar 30, 2026, 2:40 PM
Butler is starting in center field and batting sixth for Monday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis: Butler made a defensive miscue in the outfield on Opening Day and went 0-for-3 at the plate. He then was omitted from the starting lineup in each of the final two contests against the Blue Jays, but Butler is back in there for a homecoming game in Atlanta.
Luis Morales
Luis Morales Allows three homers in loss
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 3:42 PM
Morales (0-1) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 4.1 innings.
Analysis: Morales threw just 41 of 71 pitches for strikes and was undone by homers in the first, third and fourth innings. The 23-year-old posted an impressive 3.14 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB across 48.2 innings down the stretch in 2025, but he carried a rough spring into his season debut. He'll look to rebound in a home matchup against the Giants next weekend.
Jeff McNeil
Jeff McNeil Heading to bench vs. lefty
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 10:51 AM
McNeil is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: McNeil went 1-for-7 with a walk, a stolen base and a run while starting the first two games of the season, but he'll hit the bench Sunday with Toronto sending out lefty Eric Lauer. Darell Hernaiz will instead start at the keystone in the series finale.
Lawrence Butler
Lawrence Butler Sitting again Sunday
Sun, Mar 29, 2026, 10:38 AM
Butler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: The 25-year-old went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Opening Day and now finds himself on the bench for a second consecutive contest. Butler sat against Toronto righty Dylan Cease on Saturday and also won't start versus lefty Eric Lauer on Sunday. Brent Rooker is instead starting in right field in order to allow catcher Shea Langeliers to receive some rest as the designated hitter.
Scott Barlow
Scott Barlow Blows save in 10th Saturday
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 7:08 PM
Barlow was charged with his first blown save of the season Saturday, giving up an unearned run on a hit and a walk in the 10th inning of an 8-7 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays. He struck out one.
Analysis: After Elvis Alvarado, Hogan Harris and Michael Kelly made a hash of things in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to let the game get to extras, the A's grabbed a 7-6 lead in the top of the 10th and handed the ball to Barlow. He wasn't able to get to the job done, and he very nearly took the loss when Addison Barger's deep drive to right field fell a foot or two shy of being a walk-off homer rather than a game-tying sacrifice fly. The A's closer situation remains muddy, but Barlow at least has a 0.00 ERA through his first two appearances and 2.2 innings.
Shea Langeliers
Shea Langeliers Stays hot Saturday
Sat, Mar 28, 2026, 7:03 PM
Langeliers went 2-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam in Saturday's 8-7 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays.
Analysis: After going yard twice in the A's opener Friday, Langeliers belted his third homer of the young season in the seventh inning off Brendon Little. The 28-year-old backstop is 5-for-8 with six RBI to begin the season as he looks to beat the career-high 31 home runs he launched in 2025.
